Cognitive Techniques To Change Your Thoughts ✨✨
Cognitive techniques are strategies used in cognitive therapy to help you identify and change negative thoughts and beliefs. These techniques should be practiced regularly so that they become habits.
Cognitive Restructuring: This involves identifying and challenging negative or irrational thoughts and replacing them with more positive or rational beliefs.
Thought Stopping: When you notice a negative thought entering your mind, you can mentally shout "Stop!" This interrupts the thought process and gives you a chance to replace the negative thought with a positive one.
Mindfulness and Meditation: These practices help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment. When you observe your thoughts without judgment, you gain insight into negative patterns and choose to let them go.
Journaling: Writing down your thoughts can help you process and analyze them. With time you can identify patterns and work on changing negative thought cycles.
Positive Affirmations: Repeating positive statements can help counteract negative self talk and reinforce positive beliefs about yourself.
Evidence Collection: When faced with a negative belief, ask yourself, "What evidence do I have that supports or refutes this thought?" This can help you see things in a more balanced way.
Decatastrophizing: If you tend to imagine the worst scenario, ask yourself how likely it is to happen and what other possible outcomes there might be. This can help you view situations more realistically.
Labeling: Instead of saying "I am a failure," label the thought as "a negative thought about my abilities."
Distraction: Engaging in an activity or hobby can divert your attention from negative thoughts and give your mind a break.
Scheduling Worry Time: Instead of ruminating on worries throughout the day, set aside a specific time to process them. This can prevent constant worry and allow you to focus on other tasks.
Challenging Cognitive Distortions: Recognize and challenge cognitive distortions like black-and-white thinking, overgeneralization, and personalization.
Visual Imagery: Visualize a place or situation where you feel calm and happy. This can help shift your focus from negative thoughts.
These are very simple descriptions and examples of cognitive techniques. I listed the ones we can put into practice on our own. There are more in depth methods and practices used by doctors on different fields of study and practice. I can list, as well as add upon the information listed here.

10 minute method & limiting belief debunking.

୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ 🍂 ⋅୧ ‧₊˚ I want you to try the “10 minute method” and see how fast your manifestation unfolds into your reality. This technique is when you either can set a timer for 10 minutes, and straight robotically affirm. It’s better if you do this like 3 times a day, especially if you waver when robotically affirming! This method is so powerful and helps to saturate your subconscious with your dominant thoughts you want to manifest. You can play a subliminal in the background while your affirming, or play a game, anything ! As long as you affirm 10 minutes straight. You can also do longer then 10 if you want, but minimum 10 minutes. Some people may ask “isn’t this coming from a state of lack because you shouldn’t force yourself to affirm straight” no..it isn’t. I just realized this was such a limiting belief i had for such a long time that you had to think “from, and not try to “want or get” your manifestation. Sammy Ingram slapped me right out of these victim state beliefs, and the fair Anwser is no. Your subconscious isn’t going to be like “well are you thinking from you desire? Are you wanting this from a place of lack? If so, nope. Not having it. I’m not going to give it to you.” NO. your subconscious doesn’t have a mind, brain, or soul of its own. It’s literally you. Plus, if you really want your desire and you know exactly how to get it, stop being lazy and affirm and persist. As well as, your subconscious just knows that your focusing on __ (your desire) more so that’s what it’s gonna display in your reality. Plus, I promise you after doing this your going to feel so fullfilled!

You inspired me to write! And I got up to 2k words for the first time ever when it comes to writing for myself... but I'm struggling a bit 😅 Do you have any advice about narrator POV and how you use your verb tenses? It's like I have no idea how you manage to "head-hop" while still being an omniscient narrator so smoothly & effortlessly. And verb tenses. if I write "was" one more time I might pop a gasket lol. any help is appreciated <3 have a good one!
First of all, that's freaking amazing! 2k is a lot, congratulations! That might sound weird coming from me considering how many words I put out, but I 100% remember the struggle of being newer to writing and hitting multiple thousands of words for the first time - I'm so happy for you!
Second of all: I actually write exclusively in third person limited POV, not third person omniscient! Even though I'm writing in third person, the narration is fully from the perspective of the point of view character, which I personally enjoy a lot because it allows for a lot of unreliable narration and also characterization through how their train of thought manifests (choppy, stressed, dreamy, etc). That's why when I'm writing from the point of view of character A, for example, any assumptions about character B's motivations are what character A is thinking, not an omniscient narrator informing you.
That said, you still have to head-hop specifically to write the actual visible actions and dialogue of the second character, and that's actually the most recent thing that I used to struggle with in writing specifically because I got most of my initial writing experience doing roleplay where I was only ever responsible for one character's thoughts and actions at a time.
Honestly, the main thing I can say is that it gets much, much easier with practice. When you start out, it will genuinely just take you longer to switch from the mindset of one character to another! I used to take character notes to put together little snapshot profiles of character headspaces to re-orient myself between the characters I was writing when I felt like I was getting lost. They included things like a few traits to keep in mind, behavior mindset, and snippets of dialogue that I thought were very representative. I don't use these anymore, but I do still do things like rewatch episodes or reread portions of books when I'm learning new characters to orient myself to their personality. It's like code-switching to me nowadays.
As for verb tense: I was a consummate Homestuck, so I started out writing in second person present tense, hahaha, and while I've adopted the third person POV (and believe me, this took adjusting), I've kept writing in present tense as a personal preference. I like it because it makes things feel more in-the-moment as they're happening, because there's less grammatical fuckery involved when describing the past vs the present, and just because I'm used to it. That said, past tense is more common and stands out less to people, and I think that you are finding all of your "was"s a lot more noticable than a reader would! People generally don't really notice the tense of what they're reading once they get into the flow of it.

ok. migi & dali opening. i am going to talk about it now.
throughout the opening we see so many Things. the entire series up until the second to last episode, i hadn't paid that close attention to it because god that song is a banger and honestly i was more focused on the music than the animation, despite being captivated by it every episode. but that episode for some reason. i paid more attention that time and had some Realizations.
one question i've had every single time the opening has played has been "why does one of them take the cherry pie and the other does not?" throughout the opening the two of them are seen doing the same things, effectively mirroring each other, which makes sense considering it was most of the plot for the first few episodes, so i really didn't think about it too much. but with that pattern established, it's extremely strange when, at the end, one of them strays from the shared course of action to take one of the slices of cherry pie that's sitting on the chairs.
another thing i noticed when i actually paid attention was that the one in the shadows in all their activities is always dali.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and if that's not enough, we have this shot of migi and dali as sun and moon respectively, and i think we all have enough media literacy to understand the implications of that.
Tumblr media
then we have this shot of them, showing migi floating higher and dali sinking lower.
Tumblr media
all of these screenshots to say that the opening animation tells us exactly what the series, or at least the part that the anime currently covers, is about at its core. we see it in the series time and time again as these two try to make their way through the world.
migi is portrayed in the series as somewhat childish, frequently to a fault - generally more hopeful in what he believes, which shows in his actions and the way he interacts with others in a genuine way. dali is severe and bitter, much more driven by the idea of getting revenge for their mother, seemingly just for the sake of it at this point, and being willing to do it at any cost because he doesn't value anything other than his brother.
migi sees the good in things and, while still helping dali with their shared goal, is genuinely enjoying his life with this family and in this town. dali, on the other hand, is dedicating everything he has to their goal, not caring or bothering to invest any part of himself into anything else. (this is portrayed also by migi being in the light, enjoying the activities he's doing, and dali being in the shadows, spending all his time trying to solve their mystery.)
this conflict of priority between them results in the fight they have in episode 9. a showdown between hope and despair, over a bike in a river, all as a result of migi's off-comment about wanting to eat cherry pie again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and now the bike. they state this explicitly in the dialogue, but it's the first gift migi has ever gotten. so when dali throws it in, he does not hesitate even a little bit to jump in and get it. the bike is meaningless to dali - just another thing to toss and discard for the sake of moving forward. he gives up on everything so easily because he never bothered getting attached in the first place. he's so quickly ready to abandon anything and everything aside from migi. there's no way that he can be happy like that and migi knows that. migi is all he has and they both know that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the jealousy he expresses is just jealousy that migi is able to find happiness and value in things other than him while he's unable to do the same, as a result of his bitterness and his fixation on finding their mother's killer. he's jealous that migi is growing closer to other people and making connections that are important enough to him that he's not willing to just throw them away with the toss of a bike.
Tumblr media
so he takes his brother down. he forces his head underwater, and asks if he's still thinking about that cherry pie (THIS LINE IS SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!). he tries to drag migi down with him into his own despair, tries to convince migi that his beloved cherry pie isn't really all that important. that it's not worth as much as migi's acting like it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he tries to literally beat the hope out of migi. he is so desperate to be hopeless that he beats the shit out of his brother over and over about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but, of course, that would never be enough to stop him.
and we're back to the cherry pie. dali finally caves and agrees to go back and try to sort things out, not because it's what he thinks is best for their safety, but because it's what migi wants for his happiness. he realizes that he'll only continue to hurt migi if he pushes his own cynicism on him and forces him to leave everything behind, since he had the guts to get attached. even though dali doesn't really understand the value of the cherry pie, he sees how much it matters to his brother. he sees his resolve to experience those small moments of happiness again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the cherry pie is taken from migi's side of the shot.
throughout the entire story, migi has been the one to see the value in the simple things, like taking walks with the dog, having friends to hang out with and do wacky bird shit with, riding a bike, and eating cherry pie together. he is not afraid to experience joy and is willing to fight for it, for both him and his brother, even if his brother doesn't see the value in it quite yet.
migi will see the good in things. he will have hope for the future. and he will take the cherry pie.

firewatch au is an interesting story because mumbo is such an omnipresent non-character. it doesn't matter if i characterize him correctly or not, because his character isn't ever present to exert change in the story. the only thing that does matter is grian's rosy, absence-defined ideals about who his best friend was. every single thing we learn about mumbo is filtered through like 12 different layers of love and grief and denial until he's on a pedestal so high nobody can see the truth. his character is almost solely defined by what someone else says about him.
in doing this, grian also inadvertantly strips away all the little mistakes and mishaps that are part of mumbo's agency and part of him being a real person until he's perfect. and all this idolization ends up making it worse for grian in the end, because he actively avoids engaging in any theories that suggest mumbo might have made a mistake or gone astray. there's clear dissonance between reality—grian knows mumbo got lost and is searching for him—and the way grian lashes out at anyone who suggests something that clashes with the perfect ideal of mumbo in his head, including getting lost. mumbo should be a character in his own story, but grian won't let him be.
instead he wraps his desire to find mumbo into a weird sort of side quest where he's just as interested in finding someone else to blame as he is finding mumbo. he spends the same amount of time trying to figure out exactly where it all went wrong during the search as he does actually searching for mumbo—even after he knows the general area mumbo was last in! it's a puzzle and he can't put anything to rest until he solves it. he's trying to force logic into everything so he can cope with it. because if he doesn't find someone or something to blame, then he has to face the reality that sometimes things just don't make sense. if it makes sense, he can solve it and fix it. if it doesn't make sense...then he just has to live with it, and he doesn't think he can.

BRAIN WAVES AND HOW TO USE THEM
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cr to @thespiritualgyalss
Brain waves
What are brainwaves?
…Brainwaves are electrical impulses in the brain. An individual's behavior, emotions, and thoughts are communicated between neurons within our brains. All brainwaves are produced by synchronised electrical pulses from masses of neurons communicating with each other. Our brainwaves occur at various frequencies. Some are fast and some are slow.
…The classic names of these EEG bands are delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma. They are measured in cycles per second or hertz (Hz).
Gamma wave
What it is and how to use it
…Gamma waves is a more faster wave and your brain tends to produce gamma waves when your more active and really focused.
…So I recommend listening to gamma waves frequency on YouTube and you can affirm while listening to it but listening to it or just relaxing and meditating with gamma sounds is good.
…Personally from what I hear it's good to use whenever your studying or focusing on something so it improves your memory or intelligence.
…A recent study has shown that gamma waves can improve your working memory. Gamma waves have the following benefits: They can improve your cognition and problem-solving ability.
…Listening to them first thing is really beneficial and can help with anxiety here is one good video you can listen to.
Btw you don't have to sit in that position in the video or even focus just simply listen and relax.
youtube
Theta waves
What is it and how to use it
…Theta brainwave states have been used in meditation for centuries: It is common for people to feel as if they are in a trance, where the mind feels as though it may have gone to sleep although it is conscious of what is happening around it.
…We get into the Theta state at least twice a day. Just after waking up and just before falling asleep, so in other words, state akin to sleep. But theta is also experienced during deep meditation.
…So I recommend doing the "high" method breathing vid and listening to theta frequinces while ur in a relax state after doing the "high method" and simply affirming while doing that BUT if you get tired after doing the "high" method than simply just listen to theta frequencies on YouTube and affirming.
youtube
Delta waves
What is it?
…This is the slowest band of waves that our brains produce and they occur when we are in deep, dreamless sleep. These waves are very beneficial for the body which restores and heals itself when in this state.
…Delta is the place of deepest relaxation, deepest healing, deepest spiritual connection and deepest connection with the subconscious mind. It is considered to be the gateway to the unconscious mind and the collective unconscious, bringing access to the universal psyche or mind.
How to use it …Delta waves is basically a good nights rest so, I recommend listening to delta waves if your stressing or have a lot going on with your mind before you go to sleep so you wake up more calm.
youtube
Alpha waves
What is it?
…These are lower frequency waves: The state is generated when our thoughts are really not concentrated and our minds wonder freely, or we are in a relaxed state such as meditating or daydreaming.
…We also experience Alpha Brainwaves when we are gently busy with routine tasks like taking a shower, putting on makeup, etc.
…it reduces stress levels and increases productivity levels.
…Alpha waves oscillate between the theta and beta waves. To successfully harness them, you'll usually need to slow things down, and deepen your breaths.
How to use it
…A 2015 study found direct evidence that meditation and mindfulness could help unlock this beneficial state of mind.
…So basically doing breath work will help you get into the alpha - state once your relaxed you listen to alpha waves and affirm.

Examples of Limiting Beliefs 💭👎🙊✨
Limiting beliefs are thoughts that make us think we can't do certain things. These thoughts can stop us from trying new stuff or achieving our goals. Our words and thoughts have power. They can influence our own feelings, behaviors, and perspectives, as well as those of others. For example, if we believe we're bad at something, like math, we might avoid it. This means we never get better or discover if we could actually enjoy it. These beliefs can come from past experiences, things people have told us, or what society expects. When we believe these negative thoughts, or speak negative words, we might miss out on opportunities, feel stressed, or even make decisions based on fear. These beliefs can also make us feel less confident, lower our motivation, and even stop us from being happy or connecting with others. To get over these beliefs, we need to understand them, question if they're really true, and then think in a more positive way.
“I can't handle failure."
"Others are better than me."
"I'm not worthy of success."
"I can't pursue my dream because it's impractical."
"I should always put others before myself."
"I'm bound to mess things up."
"I can't learn new things."
"I'm too different to fit in."
"Making money is wrong or evil."
"Rich people are greedy or unethical."
"I'll never be wealthy."
"It's not possible to earn money doing what I love."
"I don't deserve to be rich."
"Money doesn't come easily."
"There's never enough money."
"I have to work extremely hard to earn money."
"Wanting more money means I'm materialistic."
"I have to please everyone to be liked."
"I'm not good enough."
"I'll never be successful."
"I'm not smart enough."
"People don't like me."
"I'm bad with money."
"I can't do that; it's too hard."
"I'm too old to start something new."
"It's too late for me."
"I don't deserve happiness."
"I'm not creative."
"I can't change; it's just the way I am."
"I'm always unlucky."
"I don't have enough experience."
"I'll never find love."
"I have to be perfect to be loved."
"I always fail, so why try?"
"It's safer to stay in my comfort zone."
"I can't trust anyone."
"I'm not a leader."
"I should be content with what I have."

dear internet stop throwing pictures of beautifully toasted bagels slathered in cream cheese at me i don't have a toaster i don't have room in my teeny kitchenette for a toaster a toaster is a luxury here in japan as are bagels as is cream cheese
bagel places here that ask me "do you want that heated up" make me want to cry tears of joy even though all they mean is they're gonna stick the bagel in the microwave for ten seconds so it's slightly warm-ish but not enough to crisp up or melt the cream cheese a little

at the risk of sounding butthurt for talking about not being butthurt: going through quals really prepared me for trawling through fandom meta and research while keeping my zen
#redglyphs#opinionated verm#i have not seen another fandom as salty and divisive as the dc one#all the interesting meta and summaries come with this implicit ''you illiterate idiot'' vibe (exhausting)#or the ''we do what we want and fuck canon'' mindset is taken to the extreme end (simplistic and lacking nuance)#personally the visual style of a lot of western comics grates at me so it's hard to get into#but i do like the wack and fucked up dynamics of canon + trying to imagine a world/chronology around that#i like calibrating what i write around canon -> thus those meta&summary posters are very valuable and interesting to keep up with#i just gotta do 🙈 whenever they start to lambaste ''''fans'''' for not reading the comics/despised fanon reinterpretations of characters#''mmhmm yep. okay okay. i'm stupid. but let's get to why my blorbo is so fucked up bc of [whatever issue/run]''#like whatever they say they cannot roast me as hard as this one prof from my quals panel did#that prof is basically the successor of the academic lineage that established his discipline#and man utterly destroyed me during the exam#''you have no idea what you're talking about; you didn't even read taylor's hypothesis from 1941'' and i just let my soul evaporate lmao#anyways. i feel like fandom (all fandom and esp ones w sprawling canons) would benefit from two things:#1) willingness to learn (you gotta try to absorb some of the canon to transform it; ''know the rules to break them'')#2) willingness to accept limits (ppl are allowed to pick and choose; ''you gotta tolerate other ppl on the playground'')#and like. fucking chill out. we're all literally writing about some fictional dudes doing fictional things#rarely is a thing you dislike actually harmful rather than just distasteful (to you personally or broadly w/e)
