The minute Jisung hits play, you know you're fucked.
Okay, no. Backtrack. Rewind. That's not where it starts—it's not even close.
It starts in high school. Senior year, prom. No one asked you out, and no one asked Jisung, so you went with a crowd of your friends and their dates. You drank. You danced. You screamed and laughed and cried at the afterparty, and you ended up on the roof of the party house at four in the morning, drunk and giggly and Jisung's head on your shoulder.
Still one of the best nights of your life, no contest. But it was in one of those moments, when you mumbled something incoherent and Jisung just giggled in response (before the two of you stumbled home together and spent the next morning nursing ridiculous hangovers in your respective houses), that you realized—that Jisung wasn't a friend. Not in the way you'd thought before, at least. That he was something else, something different, a friend and a thousand other things rolled into one—that you were fucked as hell for letting this happen.
But no. Maybe not. Maybe it wasn't then. Not senior year, not prom, but when you finally got your driver's license in sophomore year and drove Jisung out to get boba at your favorite place for the first time. No need to ask a friend for a ride, no need to beg your parents to take you to get your stupid boba fix for the week. Just you, your parents' shittiest car, and Jisung in the passenger seat rolling down the familiar roads to the tiny little cafe, and then sweet drinks in hand with tapioca pearls chewy between your teeth as you watched Jisung laugh loud and hard, his eyes squinted against the afternoon sun. You didn't know, not then, but you did know. Somehow. You didn't but you did, and the image is burned into your mind and it's never once gone away. It never will. And that's how you know you're fucked.
Except—it might not have been then. It could've been middle school, maybe. When someone kicked a soccer ball into your face and Jisung held your hand all the way to the tiny school clinic despite the fact that all middle schoolers thought holding hands was weird and gross. Or it could've been the summer before when you ran to the park together and jumped on the swings, rising higher, higher, higher into the air as the sun burned golden in the sky. Or maybe after the two week long fight you had (the longest one you've ever had, and you don't even remember what it was about) when you couldn't stand it anymore and decided to walk over to Jisung's house to apologize, only to swing open the door and find him on your doorstep first.
It could have been anything. A thousand and one moments in time, spread out over the years that have passed. Elementary school, middle school, high school, your first years of college—boba stores, the mall in your hometown, the neighborhood park—it could have been anything. Any combination. But see, the point is—
It doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter. None of it does. Not the exact day you knew, not the immediate second you realized, not the sheer length of time during which you've loved your best friend. Because you couldn't give an answer if someone asked, not to a single one of those questions, because with you, it's always been him. He's your beginning, your end. Your start, your finish. Everything you've ever known and wanted, everything you'll ever need.
And so when Jisung hits play and the song he wrote for you begins playing through the headphones you bought him for his last birthday, you know. You've known all along, distantly, but now—
You know well and truly for certain that you are incredibly, irrevocably fucked.
. . . . . There are tears in your eyes when the song finally ends and for a moment, Jisung's heart stops. Tears—what are they for? Happiness? Sadness? He didn't quite think that this song was—sad, per se, but maybe it was sadder than he thought, or too much too fast because after all you've only been dating for four weeks and five days—barely over a month—and god-fucking-damn-it now he's on the verge of hyperventilating because holy shit what if he just made the biggest mistake of his stupid twenty one years of life—
"I'm so sorry," he gasps out.
You turn around in the chair to face him but he can't meet your eyes. "I'm sorry, it was probably such a shitty song, or like I shouldn't have let you hear it now—it's too early and you probably weren't ready I'm so so so so sorry—"
"No!"
The sheer volume of that single word ends his rambling. Which is pretty impressive given that when Jisung is nervous, he tends to talk. And talk and talk and talk. Which is—bad. At least now. Because you're taking a deep breath, way too deep for you to be saying anything good in the next beat, but all Jisung can do now is hold his own breath and pray.
Dear God, if you can hear me, I know I haven't been the best when it comes to believing in you and I'm still mad you didn't hear my prayers last semester right before my Calc II final, but if I've done even a single good thing in my life please don't make it so that I messed this up, not when it's barely been a month since I started dating Y/N.
"Jisung, I..." You take the headphones off, placing them carefully on the desk. Your fingers twist in your lap, a familiar nervous habit of yours that doesn't do much to quell the anxiety building in his throat.
When you don't continue, Jisung opens his mouth. He can't help it. He needs to say something, anything, apologize again and pray that you'll help him forget this ever happened—
"I'm so sorry," you blurt out.
Jisung's heart drops. Shatters on the ground. I'm so sorry. He messed up, he messed up so bad—
"I'm sorry," you repeat, and your eyes are so shiny with tears it hurts. "I—I can't do this anymore."
He tries to speak. To move. Salvage something of this relationship. But nothing happens. Every muscle in him has frozen.
"Jisung, I—" The tears start to spill. "I'm so sorry. I can't do this. I love you, I love you so much and I—it's not just as a friend—"
Wait.
What?
"The song was beautiful." You're properly sobbing now, hands harshly wiping the tears from your eyes as you hunch over in the chair while Jisung still can't move. "Brilliant and lovely and I just—I can't. Because I know you just think we're friends—"
What the fuck.
"—but I can't keep it in anymore, I can't keep just thinking of you as a friend because I love you, I've been in love with you for so long it hurts, and I—I won't be able to stand it if this song was just about our friendship because I—it would hurt too much—"
"Y/N."
Jisung's mouth moves without his brain telling it to. And to his surprise, you stop talking. He hadn't thought he'd quite spoken loud enough for you to hear.
"I—Y/N." All the fear that's been building up since the start of your spiel melts away into pure confusion because—what the fuck? The two of you have been dating for a month now, four weeks and five days—he asked you to dinner and said "it's a date" and you didn't disagree, just smiled so widely and nodded—and he held your hand and you talked for hours and then he walked you to your dorm and—
"Haven't we been dating for a month already?"
You blink. Once. Twice. Three times. Silence stretches for a moment that seems way longer than just a moment, and then you finally open your mouth and utter a single word.
"What?"
Oh, fuck. Now he's panicking. "I—I asked you out, right, like for dinner? A month ago? And then I said 'it's a date' and I—you said yes, I think if I haven't been hallucinating this whole time, and we got dinner and it was a date and then we kept going out—like to the amusement park last week? Just us? Were they—" And now for all his rambling a couple seconds ago, his voice dwindles to a whisper because his throat suddenly hurts and he's not going to be able to stand it if you say no—
"Were they not dates?"
Your mouth opens and closes. At least you've stopped crying, Jisung thinks helplessly.
"I—I thought you meant that as a joke." Your voice is barely a whisper, hoarse and confused and god fucking damn it, Jisung really wants to hug you right now. "I thought—I mean, we get dinner together all the time, we do all these things together, I thought you were just being…normal?"
Oh dear.
Oh fucking dear.
"But it was just us two!" Jisung bursts out. You flinch. Oh, shit. Too loud. "Sorry," he apologizes, hunching into his shoulders. "But—I—it was just us two, all these times. Right?"
You blink about a million times again. "…Right."
"I meant them to be dates," Jisung says miserably. God, he's such a fuck up—how did he fail at asking you out this badly?
You swallow. Your throat bobs once, twice, a third time. "So we've been dating…this whole time?"
Jisung cringes. "I thought we were."
"Oh." You cringe too now, eyes riveted to your fingers twisting tightly in your lap. "Wow. I'm so stupid."
"No, I am." Jisung squeezes his eyes shut, then forces them open again. "Sorry. I should've been clearer—I mean, uh, assuming you still want to date, it's totally okay if you don't I guess—"
"No!"
Jisung freezes. No as in what? You don't want to date? You want to date? He shouldn't have been clearer? What—
"No," you repeat, voice softer now. "I—I really want to date you, Jisung. I really do." Your words are trembling but this time your gaze is steady. "I really, really want to. I'm just—I'm sorry I didn't realize it when you asked the first time."
Jisung laughs nervously. Scratches the back of his neck. "Well, uh, I probably could've asked better. More directly." He cringes. God, he's such a fucking embarrassment. "Sorry."
"It's not your fault I'm dense." You give him a little sheepish smile and Jisung nearly faints, it's so good to see a smile on your face after he just made you cry with a song. "Does that mean…this song…"
Ah. Yeah. "That was a song about you," Jisung says quietly. His ears are probably so, so red. "About how I…I really love you."
In your seat, you remain still for one moment, then two. Then, just as Jisung's about to start screaming out loud instead of just in his head because what if that was too much too soon too, you launch yourself off the chair and into his arms.
"Oof."
"Sorry." Your lips move against his shoulder as his arms automatically slide around your waist, pulling you closer as he always has—since the day so many years ago when you decided to be best friends on the playground and sealed it with a hug. "I love you. A lot. And—" You take a deep breath, shaky in your throat but not with tears this time, just a little bit of a laugh. "I'm sorry I'm so stupid."
Slowly, slowly, Jisung's hand rises up your back. Comes to stop behind your head, holding you as close to him as he can.
"It's okay," he murmurs, a smile finally beginning to curve his own lips. I love you so much. "And, uh. Don't worry." He cringes into you, but it doesn't feel so bad now. Not when he's pressed against your warmth this time and can feel your smile against his shoulder. "I'm a little stupid, too."

Yeah, Swedish media are very reliable with transfer rumours. Especially when they've gotten info from their own sources and not refer to foreign media. But even then they tend to publish only transfer rumours that are the most probable to turn out to be true and it has 9 of 10 times checked out.
We're actually able to show Swedish media's good track record with transfer rumours since back in the days when Marta left Umeå and Schelin left for Lyon 🤷🏻‍♀️ Below is a sample of at that time unconfirmed transfers. It's in no particular order and there's been more than one football media outlet in Sweden that wrote about these. I've limited the list for length reasons 😅

bio. angelina was raised by her mother, and in a sense, her older half-brother as well. her father wasn't really in the picture, so her mother struggled quite a bit raising her and her older half-brother. it wasn't easy growing up in a one income household in new york, but the three of them made do with what they had. angel learned from a very young age that money, while desired and prioritized by some, was not the most important thing in the world. she actually began to resent the idea of wealth. she hated seeing people flaunt their money around while her and her family struggled to make ends meet. it wasn't fair in her eyes; but she had been taught early on that life wasn't fair by life itself. where she wasn't blessed in financial relief, she was blessed with intelligence. angel was the top of her class in every year that she was in school, getting on the honor roll throughout elementary, middle and high school, and even getting on the deans list while she was in college. in her eyes, academics was the only thing that she was really good at. while people could create art, making clothes, make music, sing, dance or act, she could solve any equation given to her or write an entire essay on a novel in less than an hour. it just came naturally to her. academics were her niche, where she felt most comfortable. during her senior year of high school, angelina was accepted into multiple universities - yale, princeton, columbia and stanford to name a few. she wanted to experience living on her own, so she enrolled in yale.. only to come back a semester later because she missed her brother and mother so much. after deciding to return home, she enrolled in columbia instead, like her older brother, and studied english and comparative literature. she took extra classes during the summer and winter months, which allowed her to graduate earlier than usual.
after graduating, she started her journey of trying to become a published author. angelina's always been a lover of books and literature, and after years of writing short stories, and more recently, a novel of her own, she finally wanted to get her work published. unfortunately for her, she didn't realize how difficult it would be to get a publishing company to look at her work, let alone take her seriously. she never thought she'd get a break or an opportunity, until early 2022 came around. angel, unwillingly and unknowingly, went viral on tiktok and twitter last year. being the subject of one of those "tiktok/twitter, do your thing and help me find this girl," trends, the video of her reading on a park bench gained millions of views and likes. so much attention was given to the video that she, stupidly, came out and said that the girl was her. next thing she knew, her usually dead social media accounts were flooded with followers and DMs. so at the encouragement of her friends, she began posting more often. as it turned out, people really enjoyed her dark sense of humor and blunt personality, which brought her even more popularity. in less than three months, she had half a million followers. by the time 2022 was coming to a close, she had over a million. she was being contacted by brands, companies and designers left and right, everyone offering her money to promote them or model their clothes.
and what did angel do? she accepted the offers. all because she knew that it could possibly open doors to the future that she really wanted. however, she's beginning to regret her decision at feeding into it. she's growing more and more popular by the day, more and more people online knowing her as a tiktok star turned model and influencer; things that she never wanted to be associated with. a lot of people would kill to be in her shoes, but she'd kill to be out of them. personality. independent and self sufficient, angelina would sooner chew on broken glass than willingly say that she needed someone to help her with something. she likes to do things on her own; she always has. even from a young age, she liked to handle her problems on her own without going to her mother and her older brother. and even though she knows that it's not a bad thing to ask others for help, she can't help but feel weak whenever she has to. she's quite emotionally guarded, however she's very reactive when she feels as though she's being attacked or backed into a corner.
connections. best friend. the person that angelina is closest to. the person, besides her family, that she would trust with her life. one of the only people who ever really get to see her vulnerable side. new friend(s). ever since her rising popularity and attention, she's found herself rubbing elbows with the wealthy people she used to hate. well, not them exactly, but the idea of wealthy people. but as it turns out.. they're not too bad. buddy system. much like angel, this person is new to the spotlight and they're both trying to find their footing and not get lost in the sauce. savior. this person is already used to life in the spotlight and is a guiding light for angelina on how not to lose herself in it all. enemies. this person is everything angel hates about rich people; spoiled, entitled, and self centered. angel is judgmental and doesn't bother hiding her disdain; it's not surprise they return the same sentiment. ex-lovers / fwbs. they used to date. but their romance fizzled out. the sexual tension? that's here to stay. etc. open to anything else!

The best books I read in 2022
I read 125 books in 2022, which is a lot considering that I've been employed since mid-April. I will say that I read a lot of books this year in the visual equivalent of in one ear and out the other, and I had to look up a number of books on my list to even remember what they were. I reread 12 books this year, mostly for either book club or reading previous books before reading newly released sequels reasons. I only read a very few nonfiction books this year, so I've left out that usual section and stuck to fiction only. If you want more, shorter recs, I kept up an ongoing Twitter thread where I recced things as I read them. I've provided content notes where I remember them; as always, feel free to comment or message/email me if you want more information. This is long enough that I have put it behind a cut to spare your dash.
Top 10 fiction books/series I read in 2022
The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark - I couldn't put this down. The two pov characters are an investigative journalist and a con woman, and I loved watching their lives intertwine and overlap. Content notes: terrible men, off-screen sexual assault.
One Real Thing by Anah Crowe and Dianne Fox - This is not a good book. It's a m/m romance novel that's (melo)dramatic in a way that was entertaining and gave me feelings. The relationship has some kinky elements that are negotiated in plain language terms. Content notes: drug/alcohol abuse/addiction, mental health issues. Fair warning that some of that is dealt with in an unrealistic/would be unhealthy in real life way, but was satisfying in fiction.
Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell - This m/m romance novel in space was one of my best books last year, and I reread it for my sci fi book club. It's still so good that it deserves to be on this list. Tropey and fun with non-annoying miscommunication. Content notes at the author's website.
Curse of the Specter Queen and Rise of the Snake Goddess by Jenny Elder Moke - These are very fun YA adventure novels set in the 1920s with puzzle solving, archaeology, and saving the world from ancient deities. Content notes: genre-typical violence, academic sexism. The second one also has snakes.
The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry - This is a book that's good for just reveling in the language. I would frequently be reading and have to stop and just think about the interesting thing she'd just done.
The Tattoed Potato and Other Clues by Ellen Raskin - I reread The Westing Game because Worst Bestsellers (one of my favorite podcasts) read it for flashback summer, and it really made me want to reread this one too. As great as The Westing Game is, this is the one I remembered more and had stronger feelings about. I still had strong feelings about it and it's very good. Content notes: murder, past suicide attempt, past murder.
Sisters of the Vast Black and Sisters of the Forsaken Stars by Lina Rather - This is a pair of novellas about nuns traveling around space in a slug-like spaceship trying to do good in the world. You may remember that Sisters of the Vast Black was one of the best books I read in 2020. The sequel is equally good, and I continue to love them.
Sage and King by Molly Ringle - This is a very enjoyable m/m king/magician fantasy romance with a solid plot and a non-heteronormative world. I didn't realize it was BBC Merlin fan fiction inspired until I read the author's note at the end.
The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi - This was so funny I literally laughed out loud multiple times. It's a delightful people in a sci fi world being friends and having weird adventures novel. Content notes: kaiju-related violence, some evil capitalists, the frame story involves the pandemic.
Hither, Page and The Missing Page by Cat Sebastian - These are post World War II British country village mystery romances with a m/m couple where one of them is a doctor with PTSD and the other one is a spy with flexible morals. They are absolutely delightful, and I loved getting to see what she did with an established/building relationship in the second one.
Top 4 books I read and then thought about a lot in 2022
The Unspoken Name and The Thousand Eyes by A.K. Larkwood - These are slow reads in a bad way - I was relieved it was truly a duology and not a longer series - but there's so much interesting stuff in them that I hope the author gets better over time. I read the first book for my sci fi book club, and we had a lot to talk about. The second book is both funnier and darker than the first book. I found the ending very satisfying. Content note: lots of violence.
Legacy by Nora Roberts - My favorite bad books podcast (Worst Bestsellers) read a Nora Roberts book a couple of years ago, loved it, now refer to her as "Our Lady Nora Roberts," and read at least one of her books every year, so I decided to finally try one of them. I was trying to pick a romantic suspense one kind of at random, but this one is not very suspenseful. What I kept thinking about was her character work. Everyone feels very, very real and I could imagine them as real people.
Sadie by Courtney Summers - This is an extremely intense YA novel. I couldn't put it down; I also wasn't sure how I felt about one of the elements of the podcast transcript framing. I'm not sure if I recommend it (I think The Project is the better book), but if it sounds like your kind of thing, it is very well written. Content notes: violence, child sexual abuse.
January Fifteenth by Rachel Swirsky - This is a near-future novella that follows four women over the course of one universal basic income distribution day. The world building was good and her character work is incredible to the point that I can remember how they all made me feel. (I'm going to be particularly haunted by Olivia.) It tackles some very serious topics without feeling heavy. Content notes: domestic violence, suicide, sexual assault, FLDS harm to children (including child marriage and the turning out of boys).
The author I read the most in 2022
I read 13 of Katee Robert's books this year - and I only read the first of them in November. Her books are short, fast read romance novels, mostly m/f, but with a handful of threesomes. I could not put down the O'Malleys series, which is about Irish mob families in Boston. The Sabine Valley books are where I started, but you will be disappointed that it's clearly meant to be a seven-book series but it's indefinitely on hold after the first two. These things take no effort to read and are completely addictive. Content notes: explicit sex, some arranged marriage/hostage taking setups whose consent issues are always resolved improbably quickly.

hey! do you have any book recs?🙏❤️ I remember you mentioning reading a lot and you seem to have good taste so I trust you🫡 classics or contemporary, fiction or not doesn't matter. I don't really know what I like but I'm kinda picky about prose. I don't care for murder mysteries or anything about like, rich girls in NY having rich girl problems lol
hey<3 i absolutely have book recs<3 this is such a nice message<3
used this as an excuse to make a whole notes app list of best books of 2022 bc this year, during my summer of empty office receptionisting, i read the most books i have in like a decade lol
best books 2022:
fiction
* ulysses by james joyce - classic! i am not educated enough to read this book and i still read it and i think that's what james joyce would have wanted (cool enough prose to read 800 pages not understanding basic plot points)
* milk fed by melissa broder - wacky funny contemporary novel w/an anorexic female protagonist that actually doesn't suck
* her body and other parties by carmen maria machado - horror short story collection themed around womanhood
* seeing red by lina meruane - unsettling autobiographical novel w/very cool prose about a woman going blind
* we have always lived in the castle by shirley jackson - a classic, fast, creepy shirley jackson read
* the book of x by sarah rose etter - idk how to describe this one, but if the concept of a meat quarry intrigues you, i would give it a go
nonfiction
* house of psychotic women: an autobiographical topography of female neurosis in horror and exploitation films by kier-la janisse - maybe my favorite book of all time ever
* the liar's club by mary karr - the og Childhood Memoir
* slouching toward bethlehem/the white album by joan didion - stylish essay collections about The Sixties and The Seventies
* growgirl by heather donahue - celeb memoir by the blair witch project girl about how she quit acting and became a medical grower

Integrating AI Companies: Strategies for Success
Tumblr media
AI-connected M&A is coming
The AI strategy issue dominates C-suites and board rooms globally
Due to AI’s revolutionary potential and fear of disruption, many major companies will pursue strategic acquisitions to boost their AI capabilities in the next months and years.
The latest trend started this summer when Databricks purchased MosaicML for $1.3 billion and Thomson Reuters bought Casetext for $650 million.
Fun game: what huge AI-related M&A deals will make headlines next?
These hypothetical transactions may not happen. Lina Khan’s FTC intends to dispute tech M&A, raising antitrust worries.
However, considering whether AI blockbuster acquisitions are strategic and lucrative is informative and intriguing.
These 10 transactions are intriguing
1.Microsoft acquires Hugging Face
As the “GitHub of AI,” Hugging Face An apt parallel. Developers may share and analyse code, AI models, and datasets on GitHub and Hugging Face.
Microsoft’s 2018 $7.5 billion purchase of GitHub enhanced its developer community, making it an open-source ecosystem leader, improved its cloud computing business, and provided several integration options.
Five years from now, Microsoft may buy Hugging Face and merge it with GitHub to become the leading open-source development platform.
Interesting side note: Microsoft is extremely tied to OpenAI, but after months of partnership fissures, Microsoft is looking to lessen its dependence on OpenAI. Acquiring Hugging Face may make Microsoft a neutral platform for closed- and open-source AI providers and models.
2.Meta buys Character.ai
Character.ai may change social media using generative AI. App usage and growth are astonishing, particularly among 18-to-24-year-olds.
Meta/Facebook openly copies or buys social media rivals.
This film has been shown multiple times in 20 years. Meta/Facebook has long replicated Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok product ideas. Besides its failed $3 billion Snapchat deal in 2013, it paid $1 billion for Instagram in 2012 and $19 billion for WhatsApp in 2014.
The initial phase of Meta’s chatbot proposal last week matches Character.ai’s.
Meta may buy Character.ai if its meteoric rise continues in the coming months to fight competition. The 2023 antitrust cloud over big tech makes this merger as unlikely as any on our list.
3.Snowflake buys Pinecone
Large new technical platforms may need new databases. Because new digital platforms bring new data flows, structures, and modalities.
This occurred with cloud computing a decade ago. Databricks and Snowflake won with cloud-optimized databases.
Vector databases follow AI as the next hot database architecture. Vector databases provide vector embeddings, AI models’ core data structure.
Pinecone, which grew from $30 million in 2021 to $750 million in 2023, had the quickest vector database usage and revenue growth.
Snowflake is the incumbent $50 billion public company. Snowflake may acquire a vector database to keep ahead in this fast-growing industry.
4.Nvidia acquires CoreWeave
Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform — Nvidia’s top customers — are competing. Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet create AI processors.
With cloud providers pushing down the technological stack to the silicon layer to grab more revenue, what if Nvidia built its own data centres and cloud services to lessen its distribution dependency on cloud companies?
Nvidia’s new cloud service, DGX Cloud, is investigating this. This strategy would be radically extended by purchasing AI-focused cloud company CoreWeave.
Due of the AI boom, CoreWeave’s revenues have risen from $25 million last year to $500 million this year to $2.3 billion in 2024. CoreWeave has grown significantly thanks to Nvidia’s investment and processor access. Vertical integration may follow.
5.Intel acquires Modular
Nvidia’s AI chips excel due to software and hardware. The world’s most powerful parallel computing software environment, CUDA, requires Nvidia GPU hardware.
A well-funded firm created by legendary Silicon Valley engineer Chris Lattner, Modular hopes to be a “CUDA killer” by reinventing AI software architecture for hardware platforms and software frameworks.
Modular may be bought by Nvidia to protect its lucrative CUDA ecosystem. Intel is a more appealing buyer. As they say, my enemy’s enemy is my friend.
Nvidia has eclipsed Intel as the leading chipmaker due to AI. Intel purchased Habana Labs for $2 billion in 2019 to catch up in AI. By delivering a more open and flexible alternative to CUDA, Modular, Intel’s biggest AI project, may help Nvidia lose market share.
Modular supports GPUs and Intel’s major CPUs.
6.Adobe acquires Runway
Adobe dominates creative and design software. Runway’s AI-first creative work platform wants to change the industry.
Adobe quickly adopted generative AI, developing Firefly and adding it to Photoshop and Illustrator. In the last seven months, Firefly users took about 2 billion images.
Adobe needn’t buy Midjourney, Ideogram, or Pika Labs following Firefly’s success.
Runway goes beyond generative models. To redefine creativity, the company provides several AI-powered visual design tools. Runway is utilised by creative professionals, corporations, and Hollywood studios, whereas the previous businesses service consumers.
After this, Adobe may buy Runway.
7.Amazon acquires Anthropic
Last Monday, Amazon stated it will invest $4 billion in Anthropic, making this arrangement obligatory. Investments may lead to full purchases.
Microsoft gets OpenAI, Amazon gets Anthropic. OpenAI offshoot Anthropic is a major AI research group. Amazon may unleash billions of dollars in value by using Anthropic’s cutting-edge large language models (LLMs) throughout its huge business empire, from e-commerce to cloud services to logistics, like Microsoft with OpenAI.
8.Eli Lilly acquires Inceptive
AI will transform biology. Few AI applications will impact humans more.
A few companies are pioneering this trend by combining LLM and generative AI to understand biological processes and develop new drugs for human health.
This firm Inceptive is intriguing. After acquiring $100 million from Andreessen Horowitz and Nvidia, Inceptive is researching AI-based RNA treatments. Lead by Jakob Uszkoreit, co-inventor of the transformer architecture that sparked the AI revolution, Inceptive has top computational and life sciences experts.
Big pharma companies have long examined AI’s impact on drug development. Roche with Recursion, Bayer with Exscientia, Bristol Myers Squibb with insitro — they have cooperated with computational biology businesses rather than acquired them. A pharma company may buy Inceptive to get its experience and technology as AI capabilities and buzz rise.
Most likely significant pharma mover?
Eli Lilly is a fantastic candidate for a massive acquisition due to its dedication to RNA as a revolutionary therapy modality, recent AI investments, and status as the world’s largest pharma company.
9.Salesforce acquires Gong
Salesforce is a recent AI enthusiast. It created a $500 million generative AI corporate venture fund. Mark Benioff of Salesforce promotes AI’s importance.
Salesforce has acquired big companies including Slack, Tableau, and Mulesoft.
Salesforce works nicely with Gong, which analyses sales conversations using machine learning. The items’ synergy are clear.
Gong is larger and older than the imagined acquirees. Salesforce’s $200 billion market worth could withstand $7.25 billion Gong, a tough acquisition target.
Gong was valued at $7+ billion at the peak of 2021’s optimistic zero-interest-rate market, and its product stack leverages older AI. The company may accept an acquisition offer to cash out and avoid a downturn or sales decline.
10.Apple acquires Inflection AI
Apple has less top-tier LLM talent than Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft (OpenAI), and Amazon (Anthropic).
Inflection AI, helmed by DeepMind cofounder Mustafa Suleyman, is 18 months old and possesses research skills few businesses can match.
Apple’s Siri, which missed the LLM boat, might be replaced by Inflection’s chatbot Pi. Similar to Apple, Inflection is sleek and attractive.
Inflection thinks the new company is computer-obsessed. The business raised $1.3 billion this summer to build the largest GPU cluster. Together with Apple, the world’s wealthiest company with over $165 billion in cash, Inflection could employ all the computing it could envision to build its next-generation models.

Ten interesting Italian Novels
Love & Gelato-Jenna Evans Welch
a teenager’s road trip across Italy is filled with Summer romance, mystery, and adventure with a cute Italian boy. Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, as it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. Upon reading her mother’s journal, she discovers the magic of Italy and unearths a life-changing secret that has been kept from her.(the literary lifestyle)
2. One Italian Summer-Rebecca Serle
Set on the Amalfi coast, One Italian Summer is a book about mothers and daughters. When Katy’s mother, her best friend in the world, dies, she struggles to cope and decides to take the Italian vacation they had planned to take together, alone.
After all, Positano is the stunning seaside town where Katy’s mother spent the Summer right before she met Katy’s father. Once she’s there, she meets a woman who doesn’t just look like her mother but appears to actually be her mother, albeit at age 30.
As she makes friends and deals with her the loss of her mother, she is surprised by a dose of magical realism that changes everything. It’s a twist only Serle, known for her bestselling books with themes of grief, can pull off.(the literary lifestyle)
3. Our Italian summer- Jennifer Probst
about a healing Summer in the lives of three generations of American women. The eldest, Sophia, is mourning the death of her husband and wishing she spent more meaningful time with him. Her daughter, Francesca, is a very anxious workaholic, obsessed with her career. And Francesa’s daughter, Allegra, is an angry teenager, resentful that she does not have a father figure in her life, and rebellious in her actions.
These three women take a breather and venture on a blissful Summer in Italy, filled with tourism, food, and even some romance. This escape book is what I like to a great “palate cleanser.”(the literary lifestyle)
4. A Room with a View- E. M Forster
is also on the Rory Gilmore book list and The Office’s Finer Things Club list, a young Englishwoman faints into the arms of a fellow Englishman upon witnessing a murder in Florence.
She is attracted to this unsuitable man of a different social class, and so, back in England, she is courted by a more “acceptable” suitor.
Amongst a cast of colorful characters, she must choose between convention and passion.(the literary lifestyle)
5. The Villa- Rachel Hawkins
Emily and Chess are thirtysomethings with a strained friendship, who reunite for a trip to Italy (although, admittedly, it doesn’t offer a lot of Italy-specific culture).
Back in 1974, their villa was rented by a famous rockstar, who invited a musician to stay there with his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s stepsister. One ended up writing one of the greatest horror novels of all time, one composed a platinum album, and one was brutally murdered.
As Emily dives into the villa’s storied past, she also finds herself at odds with Emily. When secrets and betrayals are revealed, the past threatens to repeat itself.
Interestingly, this book is inspired by Fleetwood Mac, the Manson murders, and the infamous summer Percy and Mary Shelley spent with Lord Byron at the Lake Geneva castle where Frankenstein was born.
I read this page-turner in one day! It’s quick, yet fully developed and extremely twisty, both in the past and present storylines.(the literary lifestyle)
6. When in Rome- Liam Callanan
I would have gravitated to a story about a middle-aged woman, stuck in her life as a realtor, now contemplating joining the ranks of the Catholic Sisters in Rome whose convent she is trying to sell. (beyondthebooks.com)
7. Stars in an Italian Sky-Jill Santipolo
In 2017, Cassandra and Luca are in love. When Luca asks Cassandra’s grandmother to be a model for his new painting, with his grandfather, the past and its secrets are revealed.(beyondthebooks.com)
8. Romeo and Juliet- William Shakespear
Shakespeare’s beloved story is a tragic romance set in Verona, Italy. It’s about the children of two warring families, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet who start meeting in secret away from their parent’s machinations.
9. The Botticelli Secret -Marina Fiorato
This gritty story is about a prostitute during the Italian Renaissance who needs to flee for her life after learning a secret while sitting for famed artist Botticelli. She turns to a novice, Brother Guido, for help after her friends start dying.
It’s sort of like a Da Vinci code set in the 15th century and it all revolves around Botticelli’s Primavera painting. It’s a fun, quick read and one of the first books set in Italy that I ever read. It was a must for novels about art.
10. Beautiful Ruins-Jess Walters
There was intrigue and insight into Hollywood today verse 60 years ago. It’s actually about a secret love affair revolving around the movie Cleopatra and the small, seaside hotel at the center of the story.

Yeonjun Choi, Duke of Hastings, is in want of a wife. Boxed in from all directions by the overbearing mamas of the ton, he begins his arduous search this season for not fortune, not love, but merely the perfect woman to succeed his mother's place. None of the daughters of high society manage to catch his eye, however, or fit his overwhelming list of standards—at least until he meets Miss Y/N L/N, the queen's diamond of the season, newly arrived in town from abroad and said to be one of the most accomplished women to grace the ton in a generation.
You, the eldest daughter and only child of the L/N family, just want stability. With your father dead and the estate passed to a cousin, leaving only your dowry and a small pittance from the inheritance left intact, you begin your search for a husband with money enough to keep you and your mother afloat. It seems like a miracle when, after being crowned the queen's diamond, the Duke of Hastings himself asks for your hand—but as you learn of his complete indifference to the concept of love, you begin to doubt yourself. Perhaps money is not enough to keep your hand—maybe you desired a true love match more than you thought.
Trapped in a marriage of convenience that everyone believes is a love story, you and Yeonjun find yourselves forced to reevaluate what you want out of this match. Between balls and promenades, dances and poetry, you begin to view each other beyond the pithy conversations allowed in the courting stages, learning to see one another not just as business partners, but perhaps friends as well. And as you begin to reconcile your needs and wants, your goals and desires, maybe, just maybe—
The ton's belief that you are a love match can find some truth, too.

'The biggest cinematic event of the year is finally upon us. The release of Greta Gerwig's highly anticipated Barbie and the release of Christopher Nolan's three-hour epic Oppenheimer on the same day has turned the Internet and social media into a frenzy over the past few months. This spectacularly different double feature has been dubbed "Barbenheimer" by moviegoers, and it has everyone from casual movie fans to self-proclaimed film buffs excited to hit the theaters again. With a combined runtime of just under five hours, Barbenheimer has made this summer one for the cinema history books.
To prepare for and get in the right mindset for each of these drastically different films, many people have been curating a list of movies to watch beforehand. Even Greta Gerwig compiled a list of films that she felt embodied or inspired the essence of Barbie. Everyone is looking for the best ways to gear themselves up for the double feature of the decade. While there has been much debate over the best films to watch to prepare for each film, there has not been much discussion about what to watch afterward. After seeing these highly anticipated movies that many of us have spent months looking forward to, it is likely that people won't be ready to leave these stories behind just yet. Therefore, we have compiled a list of 15 movies to watch after your Barbenheimer double feature to help you hold onto the feelings these films inspire a bit longer.
15. Singin' in the Rain (1952)
Greta Gerwig has said that films from the Golden Age of Hollywood heavily inspired her colorful, almost-musical interpretation of the world's most famous doll. Specifically, Stanley Donen's classic musical Singin' in the Rain greatly influenced Barbie's musical scenes. The movie is set during the transitional phase of Hollywood when studios were moving away from silent pictures to talking pictures, or "talkies."
It stars Gene Kelly as Don Lockwood, a silent picture star struggling to make the transition to talkies with his co-star and publicity stunt girlfriend Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). He falls for a chorus girl named Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) as Lina becomes incredibly jealous and determined to be a talkie star. It's a colorful, fun film with fantastic musical numbers and all-around wonderful performances from some of the time period's biggest stars. It has a similar feel to the jealousy Ken (Ryan Gosling) feels about Barbie not reciprocating the same feelings as him and the musical numbers in both share similarities.
14. Atonement (2007)
Joe Wright's Atonement is a romantic war drama that is set over the course of multiple decades, spanning from 1930s England to modern-day England. The film centers around a fateful event where 13-year-old aspiring writer Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) irrevocably changes the course of two lives when she accuses her older sister's lover of a crime he did not commit. A good portion of the film takes place during the Second World War after the false accusation sends Robbie (James McAvoy) to prison and eventually to Dunkirk. It is a truly devastating romance as Robbie and Cecilia (Keira Knightley) rarely ever cross paths again and the audience is left wondering what their lives could have been like if not for that night. It also depicts some of the tragedies of war and a devastated Europe that make the love story even more tragic.
13. Clueless (1995)
Amy Heckerling's Clueless is an excellent movie to watch after seeing Barbie. Cher (Alicia Silverstone) has many similarities to Margot Robbie's Stereotypical Barbie from their fashion choices to their manner of speaking. Cher is a wealthy Beverly Hills high school student who is dealing with relationships, school, friends, her widowed father, and her ever-important social life. Cher, much like Barbie, at first comes across as a privileged young woman with a superficial personality. However, Cher is actually quite smart and a truly kind person that wants to make a difference in the world. Also like Barbie, Cher doesn't realize the true ways of the world until she experiences a harsh dose of reality herself. Both women take what they learned in the "real world" and use it to better themselves and their surroundings.
12. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
This list couldn't be complete without the inclusion of Stanley Kubrick's political satire, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. This would work as a great follow-up to Nolan's nuclear World War II drama as it is set during the Cold War when tensions were high between the United States and the Soviet Union. Dr. Strangelove follows a maniacal American general named Jack D. Ripper (Sterling Hayden) with a desire to press the nuclear war button. After initiating a strike against the Soviets, a room full of politicians, generals, and diplomats frantically try to stop the nuclear attack. One of Kubrick's earliest and best films, it is often regarded as one of the greatest political satires, and should definitely be on your list of movies to watch after seeing Oppenheimer.
11. Legally Blonde (2001)
Perhaps the only other equally iconic blonde, pink-adorned character besides Barbie is none other than Elle Woods. Played perfectly by Reese Witherspoon, Elle Woods has been inspiring and motivating women for over 20 years to achieve their goals even when others think they can't. Legally Blonde sees Elle go through a character transformation similar to Barbie's that enhances her worldview but never alters her personality or her demeanor. The law students around her believe her to be a stereotypical dumb blonde simply because she's "girly" and comes from a fashion merchandising background, but Elle elegantly and intelligently proves them wrong. Without losing her personality or her sense of style, Elle uses her wit and charm to demonstrate to everyone at Harvard that she is more than capable of being an excellent lawyer and that she is more passionate about the law than she initially realized.
10. Hidden Figures (2016)
This biographical drama could actually work as the second movie in a double feature for either Barbie or Oppenheimer. Hidden Figures details the real-life story of three incredibly intelligent mathematicians who played a pivotal role in the early days of NASA's space program. The mathematicians were three African-American women named Mary Johnson (Janelle Monae), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), and none of them had an easy time climbing the NASA ladder in the early 1960s. Despite the professional, racial, and gender barriers these women had to cross to be taken seriously, they managed to ensure that their work achieved what it was meant to. They are responsible for the calculations and science behind America's first crewed orbital spaceflight that occurred in 1962. It fits the biographical and innovation aspect of Oppenheimer while fitting in with the female empowerment aspect of Barbie.
9. The Truman Show (1998)
Peter Weir's introspective dramedy The Truman Show is another film that inspired Greta Gerwig during the making of Barbie. Gerwig was even granted the opportunity to get on the phone with Weir prior to filming, so she could pick his brain about the way he shot his film. He actually advised her not to shoot outside with lights hung above them because it would get too hot.
The film revolves around its titular main character Truman (Jim Carrey) as he goes about his average life as an insurance salesman with little to no changes to his daily routine. He never even leaves his idyllic lakeside town. It isn't until Truman finally starts to notice some of the strange things about his hometown and the residents in it that he suspects there is something off about the life he leads. Truman's entire life has been globally broadcast as a reality show where the only person who doesn't know he's on a show is Truman himself. The journey Truman goes through to discover who he really is without the constraints of the world that was created for him is reminiscent of the journey of self-discovery Barbie embarks on.
8. Schindler's List (1993)
Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson in Schindler's ListUniversal Pictures Oppenheimer is a devastating, breathtaking cinematic achievement that unflinchingly recounts the atrocities of war and human nature. It is not the only film that can be described this way, as Steven Spielberg's 1993 film Schindler's List fits this bill completely. Set against the backdrop of the worst atrocity to come out of World War II, the film centers around industrialist Oskar Schindler in German-occupied Poland as he grows increasingly concerned for his Jewish colleagues after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis.
The heartbreaking film is based on the real-life Schindler who went from a greedy German businessman to an unlikely humanitarian who felt compelled to aid the Jewish population by turning his factory into a refuge spot. The biographical drama makes you feel the weight of the barbaric reign of the Nazis and the irrevocable trauma they caused. The use of black and white conveys the depressing environment of the time period and provides a somber tone that sticks with the viewer in the over three-hour runtime.
7. The Wizard of Oz (1939)
The influence of The Wizard of Oz is evident throughout the entirety of Barbie. From the vibrant set pieces to the elaborate costume design, the presence of the classic Golden Age film is constant. Dorothy's journey from Kansas to Oz is essentially Barbie's journey from Barbieland to California in reverse. Dorothy is out of place in Oz and doesn't understand the way this magical land works, just as Barbie is entirely unfamiliar with the way society operates in the real world. The painted skies and painted backdrops of the Emerald City inspired the approach to have Barbieland look like it was designed in the '30s or '40s. The film is even shown to be playing at the movie theater in Barbieland as it's shown on the marquee. Gerwig and the crew even traded the iconic Yellow Brick Road for the Pink Brick Road to fit Barbie's traditional aesthetic.
6. A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Ron Howard's biopic about genius mathematician John Nash (Russell Crowe) details his incredible achievements in mathematics while dealing with his ongoing battle with schizophrenia. Similar to Robert Oppenheimer, Nash was extremely smart and the best at what he did. Nash had a very analytical brain and made a significant discovery early on in his career. He is credited with a concept in game theory called Nash Equilibrium.
Essentially, the theory explains that the optimal outcome in a game is when there is no incentive for a player to deviate from his initial strategy, even if they know their opponent's strategy. Despite discovering this, he quickly found himself on a painful self-discovery journey that resulted in personal tragedies after accepting secret work in cryptography. As A Beautiful Mind indicates, It wasn't until much later in his life and career that he finally overcame his struggles and received a Nobel Peace Prize.
5. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004)
Mary Elizabeth "Lola" Steppe (Lindsay Lohan) from the Disney movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen is the ultimate dreamer. It may seem like an obscure choice to feature in this list, but Lola's constant daydreaming and fantasizing about her life would actually make for a great double feature after watching Barbie. Lola is an artsy, music-loving teenage girl from Manhattan that is absolutely crushed when her divorced mother moves her and her younger sisters to the suburbs of New Jersey.
Convinced her cultural lifestyle is done now that she's in the suburbs, she creates elaborate stories about her life in New York once she starts high school in the town of Dellwood, which she refers to as "Deadwood." She continues to make her former New York life seem as spectacular and tragic as she can, even telling her new friend Ella (Alison Pill) that her father died tragically in a motorcycle accident when in reality he was alive in the city. Lola's fantasies are often reminiscent of grand Hollywood musicals from the '50s and often have an almost cartoonish effect similar to those in Barbie. To Lola, leaving Manhattan and moving to Jersey would end her cultural and entertaining lifestyle. It's similar to Barbie leaving Barbieland and immediately feeling out of place, but it ended up being exactly what they needed.
4. Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959)
The French film Hiroshima Mon Amour is a gut-wrenching drama that focuses on the tumultuous romance between a French actress and a married Japanese architect who share their differing opinions on war. Elle (Emanuelle Riva) is in Japan to make a film about peace and the impact of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. She meets Lui (Eiji Okada), the Japanese architect who lost his family in the bombing.
Over the span of many hours, the lovers turned friends recount their past romances and life experiences through numerous deep conversations. Their stories of love and war intertwine as they ponder the destruction wrought by the atomic bomb. The attraction and desire between the two bring about conversations about the devastation romance can wreak upon a person that parallels their feelings about the war and the bombing. It is an emotional, tragic, beautiful story of two people who experienced one of the most horrific events in history in very different ways, and their pain in remembering and fear of forgetting results in a poignant romance.
3. Little Women (2019)
Watching one of Greta Gerwig's previous directorial efforts after seeing her biggest film to date is ideal for becoming familiar with her style and the stories that drive her to make more films. Her 2019 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's cherished 1868 novel Little Women encapsulates the themes of the stories Gerwig wants to tell. Gerwig's films always revolve around coming-of-age from the female perspective in some shape or form. Little Women follows the lives of four sisters in the 1800s spanning from childhood to early adulthood. It follows the sisters through shared heartbreak, first loves, societal pressures, and the desire to make more of life than what's expected. It's a celebration of womanhood and demonstrates how well Gerwig writes capable women.
2. Dunkirk (2017)
If you are going to watch one of Gerwig's films after seeing Barbie, then you should probably watch one of Christopher Nolan's films after seeing Oppenheimer. The film that has the closest relation to Oppenheimer is his 2017 World War II war drama Dunkirk. Of course, the film follows one of the most important battles of the war, the Battle of Dunkirk in the spring of 1940. Germany advanced its troops to France, trapping thousands of Allied soldiers on the beaches of Dunkirk and leaving them completely exposed to the Germans. Just as he did with Oppenheimer, Nolan utilized the use of different perspectives to tell the story of this historical battle.
The first perspective follows the actual soldiers on the beach and takes place over the course of a week. The second perspective takes place on a rescue boat and follows one soldier over the course of a day as he tries to rescue soldiers on the beach. The third and final perspective takes place over just one hour in the air during aerial combat between British and German air forces. It covers a completely different side of the war but keeps you in the same mindset.
1. Grave of the Fireflies (1989)
One of the most emotionally difficult Studio Ghibli films to get through, Grave of the Fireflies tells the story of a young boy and his younger sister as they try to survive on their own in Japan during the American bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombings separated 14-year-old Seita and four-year-old Setsuko from their parents, forcing them to trek through the war-torn landscape of Japan as fires caused by the bombings continue to spread. The children struggle to find shelter, food, and water in their long journey away from their family, leaving them nearly destitute. It's a powerful, important, utterly heartbreaking film about the tragedies that war causes and proves that animation can be used for more than just telling children's fairytales.'

Arsenal's brutal injury list grows: "Suffering with everyone"
Arsenal's brutal injury list got even longer after yesterday's Champions League semi-final.
Now they are looking for reasons for the repeated serious injuries.
- It is not normal. Sick. I suffer with everyone, says Lina Hurtig.
Stars Vivianne Miedema, Beth Mead and Leah Williamson have all suffered cruciate ligament injuries and will miss the rest of the season and this summer's WC. Kim Little is also injured in the thigh and out for the rest of the season.
The precarious injury situation for Arsenal got even worse during the semi-final defeat against Wolfsburg in the Champions League yesterday.
Substitute Laura Wienroither was forced to leave the game on a stretcher. She hobbled around on crutches afterwards with what was feared to be a serious knee injury.
"I'm in shock"
- I am in shock. Four during one season in one team. I actually don't know what to say. I suffer with everyone. I suffer with Laura today, says Lina Hurtig.
Coach Jonas Eidevall replaced red-hot Stina Blackstenius with muscular sensations and then had to see Wienroither go out on a stretcher.
He was disappointed by the loss but still proud of how the team performed given the conditions with so many away.
Eidevall describes the situation as very tough, and says that they are looking more closely at possible causes of the injuries.
"Need to find reasons"
- We need to find reasons why it is so and what we can learn. Now we are starting to get a very thin squad before the end of the season and we need to have as many players with us as possible.
Could it have something to do with the training or load in general?
- We look at it and make evaluations. That said, if we can find things that improve our business, we will implement it.
