He takes off one of his gloves and grabs the anon by the face, sharp rabbit nails digging in the skin.
"If you get near my baby.. I will cut your balls, your father's balls, your grandfather's balls and I will curse the rest of your and the next generation's pathetic life. Copy that, darling?"

Movie Review - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
In 2016 we saw Ghostbusters rebooted, which did not go down well with a goodly portion of the fans or at the box office.  In 2021 we saw the original continuity resurrected with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, showing what happened to our most beloved paranormal investigators in the decades since having a smackdown with a guy in a painting. Now in 2024 we get the sequel to Afterlife, the 4th movie of…

Lind and Gender
Hari was always very much Mara's daughter. As sweet as she was as a baby, she clearly liked Mara best. It didn't bother Nic until Bernie was old enough to display preferences and obviously liked Ayla better than zem. Nic probably would have demanded a third child even if Mara hadn't, although Mara was a good excuse to avoid explaining how hurt ze was that neither of zeir children liked zem best. That was ridiculous, since ze had landed the mortal avatar of a god for a husband and had...whatever it was ze had with Ayla.
(It later turned out that Ayla had also felt like their relationship was something other than pure friendship, and took very little convincing to call herself their wife. Which made Nic feel better about grouping her more with Mara than with the other villagers in zeir mind.)
Luckily, Lind almost immediately displayed a marked preference for Nic. Sure, when he got old enough to toddle after his sisters, he did that just as often as he clung to Nic's side, but Lind was Nic's baby the way Hari was Mara's.
And as his sisters got older and didn't want to have their baby brother following them around, Lind started spending more time hanging out with Nic again. Hari and Bernie spent their free time in the fields with Ayla, or helping Mara gather things in the woods, but Lind wanted to spend time sitting in Nic's workshop, watching zem work, or helping with what ze was doing.
Lind was eight, helping Nic press all the water out of new paper sheets, when he asked zem about how gender worked.
"The fleet kids said there's only two genders," Lind said. "Except then the bigger kids shushed them."
"Most people find either girl or boy works for them," Nic said. "So they think that's all there is."
Lind frowned down at the frame he was leaning on. "But the fleet's bigger'n the village," he said. "And we have two people who aren't either and they don't have any."
"To be fair, Amora didn't know ze could not be a girl until ze met me," Nic said. "Sometimes people don't try things if they don't know they're possible."
Lind looked up at zem, frowning even more. "Nonna," he said, "were you a girl when you were my age?"
"Well," Nic said slowly. Ze was glad ze'd had to talk about this in more detail since ze first started telling people about it; when ze first started trying to convince people ze wasn't a girl, ze might have said yes to that question. That might be simpler for adults to understand, but it wouldn't be helpful when talking to children. Ze went on, "That's what everyone had always told me. But no, I don't think I was any more a girl when I was your age than I am now."
"Oh," Lind said. He pondered that for a few seconds. "Your parents were wrong?"
"Grown-ups are only ever guessing about what babies are like," Nic said. "Ayla's parents guessed she was a girl, and so did my parents, but only Ayla's parents were right."
Lind nodded. He took the pressing block out of the frame and started to carefully peel the sheet of paper up. He asked, "Can they be wrong about boys too?"
"Oh, sweet pea," Nic said, "of course we can. Your dad's not the best example, but Auntie Kay's priests thought she was a boy when they Awakened her."
"They did? Why?" Lind asked. Then he frowned again, cocking his head to the side. "Wait, why did they think that? She doesn't have anything under her clothes."
Nic smiled. They were a farming village, so Lind knew about sex. They didn't have a lot of animals, but they had the donkey and some woolly rabbits, and there was a reason the phrase "like bunnies" meant what it did. Lind was certainly a smart enough kid to come to the same conclusion his father had, back in his first conversation about Nic's gender. "I think they didn't want to call her an it," Nic said. "And they were men worshiping a man, led by a male high priest, so they probably just always decided monsters were boys."
Lind nodded. He delicately draped the sheet of damp paper over an open space on the drying rack. When he turned back around, he asked, "So you wouldn't be sad if I didn't want to be a boy?"
"No, sweet pea, we wouldn't be sad," Nic said. "It was just a guess because you showed up with a penis. You're old enough to tell us if we got stuff wrong."
"Okay," Lind said. After a minute, he looked back up at Nic. "Can this be a secret for now? I don't know if I want to talk to Dad or Mom about it yet."
"Of course," Nic said. Ze reached over to ruffle his hair, which he suffered more patiently than Hari or Bernie would. "If you want to talk to someone else about it, I'm sure Auntie Kay and Amora would be willing to keep it to themselves."
"I'll think about it," Lind said.
*
Nic didn't hear any more about whether or not Lind wanted to be a boy for quite a while. Ze was desperately curious to know if he had talked to Kay or Amora about it, but he'd asked zem to keep it a secret, and never said otherwise, so ze kept zeir questions to zemself. Still, ze did make an effort to call Lind and the other kids by non-gendered words. Ze'd gotten lazy about it with the village children, and that was no way to set an example.
When Lind was nine, Bernie started showing early signs of puberty. She began growing armpit and pubic hair, and was simultaneously annoyed by it and excited to catch up to her older sister.
Lind, for reasons Nic suspected ze knew, got very irritable, the way he hadn't been since he was a baby. Hari one day threw an arm around his shoulders, kissed the top of his head, then said, "Soon it'll be your turn, Lindy!"
Lind shouted, "Shut up! Leave me alone!" and shoved her away, then stormed off in the direction of the house.
"Gods, what's his problem?" Hari asked, rolling her eyes. "Shouldn't it be Bernie having mood swings?"
"Shut up," Bernie said, much less angrily than Lind had. Still, she frowned as she looked after Lind.
"I got this," Nic said, standing up from zeir seat. "Don't let your Mom and Dad come after us, okay?
"Sure," Hari said, looking puzzled.
Nic found Lind in his bedroom, lying face-down in his bed, clutching his pillow under his chest so he was elevated enough to glare at the wall.
"Hey, sweet pea," Nic said softly from the doorway.
Lind burst into tears. He bent his head down to bury his face in his pillow.
Nic crossed the room and sat down on the edge of his bed. Ze put a hand on Lind's back and kept it there. Lind had always preferred steady touch over petting or rubbing.
After a few minutes, he sniffled and sat up, then scooted around so he could press into Nic's side, under zeir arm. He said, "I feel okay about being a boy, but I hate thinking about being a man."
"I'm sorry, sweet pea," Nic said. "You don't have to be."
He started crying again. "But I'm gonna," he wailed. "In a year or two I'm gonna start growing hair and having a stupid scratchy voice like Eka and I hate it!"
"Ahh," Nic said. This wasn't something ze'd dealt with personally--at least, not much; ze'd never really enjoyed having breasts except during sex--but Amora and Kay had both talked about it with zem. And Nic had met a few other people who decided the gender their parents gave them was not the one they wanted who, like Kay, had decided the other traditional option was preferable, and they had mostly hated puberty and its effects. "We can talk to Chiamaka and Auntie Kay about it, if you want. We managed to figure out a potion to make it so Amora wouldn't bleed, maybe we can figure out something to keep your body from doing man things."
"Really?" Lind asked. He sniffled. "You think you can?"
"Sweet pea, we grew you and Bernie in squashes so I didn't have to be pregnant again," ze said. "Between Chiamaka, Auntie Kay, and your dad, I think we can figure out how to use magic to do almost anything."
"Except breast milk," Lind said, because he was Nic's child and had heard zem rant.
"Except breast milk," ze agreed, and kissed the top of Lind's head. "Do you want me to talk to them, or do you want to do it yourself?"
"I should do it," Lind said. "Except...can you come with me still?"
"Of course," Nic said, giving him a squeeze.
*
They wound up castrating one of the rabbits, so Kay and Chiamaka could get a better idea what they would need to eliminate. It wasn't terribly helpful for Chiamaka, of course, since rabbits were not especially like humans when it came to their bodies and development, but Kay said it was very helpful for her side of things. She also examined the donkey, which was gelded before they bought it, Mara, and Danny, before she was certain she knew what to look for. She came up with a charm Lind could wear, to keep puberty at bay, while she and Chiamaka tried to figure out options that weren't dependent on Kay being around to renew a spell.
With the confidence that puberty and its undesirable effects were no longer lurking just around a temporal corner, Lind was less irritable, and back to his easy-going self. With his permission, Nic talked to the girls about how and why Lind was not excited for puberty, and asked them to mind what they said to him about it. Thankfully, growing up with Nic and Amora around meant they both understood quickly. Hari asked if Lind should be a ze, then, and Nic told her ze hadn't asked Lind about that.
So Hari took it upon herself to ask him if they should call him "zem" instead. Lind thought about it for a bit, before shrugging. "I don't know," he said. "I thought I was okay being a boy, and I think I feel okay about being your brother, but it was a lot to think about while I was so upset about puberty. I need to think about it some more."
*
"I guess it makes sense we'd get at least one kid like you," Ayla said, snuggling into the middle of the bed.
"And that it's Lind," Mara added, kicking his dirty clothes over to the hamper. "I do feel bad I can't really help him with personal experience or anything."
"I have to say, boy puberty does sound worse," Ayla said. "I mean, the bleeding and sore boobs weren't great, but at least it wasn't surprise uncontrollable erections."
"Yeah," Nic said as ze pulled off zeir undershirt, "that sounds pretty bad." In fact, it sounded excruciating, but if ze said that, Ayla would make fun of zem for being so embarrassed by sex even though ze liked it so much.
"Would you even have had that problem?" Mara asked. He hadn't bothered to put on another pair of shorts or underwear, which was a fairly new development. He usually only slept naked if they had sex right before they went to sleep, but it seemed he had done that initially to make sure Ayla felt comfortable joining them, and after that, mostly in case one of the kids wanted to sleep with them or needed something in the middle of the night.
"I don't know," Ayla said, while Mara climbed under the blankets to cuddle up to her. "I guess I'd have to ask Chiamaka. I assume yes? Since they're kind of random and not connected to being turned on."
"Maybe less often," Nic suggested.
"Yeah, maybe," she said.
Nic did keep zeir drawers on, but had been foregoing shirts more often, and did so tonight. Ze put out the last lamp and got into bed. "I don't know if that was what Lind was most worried about," ze said. "Or maybe he wasn't thinking about it."
"No, I guess the hair and voice thing are more noticeable from the outside," Ayla said. She put her arm around Nic's waist as ze settled into bed.
"Too bad my lack of beard didn't get passed down," Mara said. "Unless it did. I guess we probably won't know, if he doesn't want to risk it."
Nic sighed. "Babe, I am positive your lack of beard is a magic thing and not something in your body."
"Why would I be able to do that?" he asked. "What's that got to do with destruction?"
"I think it's got more to do with your self-image," Ayla said. "Much like you don't seem to be getting any wrinkles or gray hairs."
"Hmm," he said. "Maybe I should try?"
"Do you want a scratchy chin?" Ayla asked.
"Not really," Mara said. "But I'd like to know if it's something I can control."
"I wouldn't mind you letting a few gray hairs or wrinkles through," Nic said. Mara laughed.
"Since you've never seemed insecure about aging before," Ayla said, "I'm going to assume you're somehow horny about that."
Nic made an offended noise. "Just because you know me," ze said, "you think you know me."
They all laughed. Mara reached over Ayla to rest a hand on Nic's waist. "I knew you thought Bunny's dad was hot."
"Shut up!" Nic exclaimed. Ayla giggled some more.

Oh.
Ich habe eingegriffen. In den Lauf der Dinge. Wieso nur? Wieso?
