Kansas City Shooting: Donations Masterlist.

(PT: Kansas City Shooting: Donations Masterlist. End PT) Hey guys. I feel like with everything that happened in Kansas City, I feel like we could uplift those in need. And I'm sure some of you have also been wondering how you can help.

I'll be updating this as I find more donation pages. I know I said I wasn't gonna reblog or link donation pages anymore, however this is something close to home (Additionally, all fundraisers and donation pages have been checked for legitimacy). Children's Mercy. For those unfamiliar, Children's Mercy is a Kansas City-based Children's hospital. I have visited them once when I came down with a very bad respiratory infection and let me tell you they are absolutely amazing. After the shooting, 12 victims, 11 of them literal children, were sent to Children's Mercy (Speaking of, I am *very* happy to report that all the victims hospitalized at Children's Mercy are expected to recover), and many people have been wanting to donate to them. And honestly, after what they've done for me it makes sense that I link their donation page too.

Reyes' Family Fund This fundraiser has since reached their targeted goal, however they're still accepting donations and have also stated that additional/leftover funds with go towards the girls' college fund.

Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan Memorial.

Elizabeth "Lisa" Lopez-Galvan tragically lost her life in the shooting. Lisa was a very popular DJ in Kansas City and was the co-host of "Taste of Tejano", a Latin music program. The above link redirects to a GoFundMe for her memorial funds. The fundraiser has also reached it's targeted goal, but it is still accepting donations.

KC Strong

A new charity that's intended to support the community and help the city and the victims of the shooting recover. If there's any other donations I should be aware of, please tell me and I'll add it! Helping One Family at a Time

This fundraiser was started by a store owner in Olathe to help support those affected by the shooting, including a family that was injured.

hello again, friends!

i am currently recovering from top surgery that i got july 13th. woooo! i am resting up and healing well. my health insurance thankfully covered most of the procedure, but my out-of-pocket bill was $3,900.

I've managed to fundraise all but about $1,200 of that amount, which is so amazing and appreciated. i'm gonna get a payment plan set up with the hospital, but that's still quite a hefty amount left, especially considering I'm unable to work for about 4 weeks.

I didn't want to flood you guys with the Salem post and I've been a bit off since starting my new medication. I had a few doctor visits in a day that were really throwing me for the loop.

Salem is still missing and i'm reeling because it has been over 2 months now. 2 and a half.

I have gotten no new leads. The most I keep hearing from people is "Oh, someone probably picked her up and is keeping her" - which, why would people keep telling me that like it's a good thing?

Someone keeps ripping her posters down at the post office - not the workers - so I keep putting that back up.

I have been wanting to do new poster designs and put up a cash reward for a few hundred, but I am unable to do so, becuase I am already very short on rent. I don't make that much paycheck to paycheck as is and push it. So this is just - it sucks.

But I have been unable to really look for her these last two weeks. My job is based on task availability - it's how I get my hours. It is a first come, first serve kind of deal. Which is usually not an issue. But it is an issue when the job itself isn't uploading any tasks into the system for about two weeks.

I've been so focused on that because I am already barely skimming by. And right now my paycheck is about to be a couple hundreds short, so fuck me. Sorry for the language. I am looking for another job by the way, I just haven't been getting any responses to my applications.

And today is worse because apparently the WiFi got knocked out while I was taking a nap???? my phone data is not unlimited, this is not gonna last. Which means i can't work much or at all today either. Until they fix it, which likely won't be until later tonight. Because my apartments slack on everything and then still turn around and charge my $700 in rent money, that I'll barely be making a dent in.

I have been getting asked in my inbox about donations, I usually don't share anything about them because of the high likelihood of it being a scam (similar story structure and similar profile, just text and no proof of image), so I usually ignore them and they just disappear from my inbox on their own.

but then I got this one that caught my attention- so I looked into it.

(Spoiler This is most likely a scam that copy pasted an actual gofundme account, thankfully I found the gofundme, here it is)

I was like "OK this is new, They are not using the copy-pasted slightly similar story this time, maybe this is real?" so I decided to check their Tumblr account, and sure enough-

they have a picture and everything, and the likes and reblogs were above 200+- BUT

just to be safe I reverse-searched each Image and found myself on THIS gofundme page

and would you Look at this

The Tumblr link is forwarded to a paypal under the name Daudi Likuyani

Maybe the Tumblr account is the relative? why copy-paste Yasmeen's word and replace it with your name?

conclusion? Be vigilant.

Rant, because this KEEPS happening:

Dude, I help whomever I can whenever I can--When I had money, I've helped people get dentures and pay for medical care, bought food for people's kids, contributed to GoFundMes, regularly gave money to homeless folks, and a couple of times even took people into my home that I barely knew.

But I don't have it now; anyone who knows me or follows my blog KNOWS that, and knows WHY.

And even if we HAD money (again--we don't), sending me insulting messages and DEMANDING it wouldn't be the way to get it.

Like, we're barely keeping our heads above water with the 14K USD (and growing, because interest) debt from straightening out El's paperwork snafu, even WITH all the generous donations (for which we will always be grateful).

Right now we're TRYING to make ends meet without doing more crowdfunding, and while keeping up on debt payments, and although we're getting by for now, there really isn't much to spare. If there were money to spare, it'd mostly have to go towards saving for the surgeries I need, and yeah, if we manage to end up with anything to spare, it's going to be set aside for our toddler and for emergencies.

Like, I'm happy to reblog fundraisers for mutuals, or for other folks I'm pretty confident are legit, but even then, if our FIRST INTERACTION is you messaging me about fundraising, especially from a blog that was created like, a week ago, followed me an hour ago, and contains nothing BUT links to your fundraiser, I think it's normal that I'm gonna be suspicious.

And again, insulting me, attempting to guilt trip me, and DEMANDING money, or repeatedly pleading with me after I've said I don't have it, is only gonna get you blocked and reported--and that would be the case even if we HAD money. (Which--I repeat--we DON'T.)

ok so i really have to give this another go in asking for money

i have a high interest loan, see picture below, that i am really really struggling to pay back because of duh the high interest, once i’ve made a downpayment it’s almost back to the same sum the next month

i made a downpayment last week when i got my student loan, the smallest amount, along with paying rent and paying off 4000 swedish kronor on my credit card because i’m stuck in an evil cycle where once i’ve paid bills and loan and credit card and rent, i’m down to nearly nothing for the rest of the month and so i have to use my credit card again for groceries and daily surviving, i don’t even remember the last time i felt like i was living and enjoying it

and i can’t break out of the cycle. i shared my gofundme link on my personal facebook about two weeks ago - literally nothing. i asked someone i know personally and have known for 20 years who is far better off than i will possibly ever be, they have a two person well-paying income household and own their own apartment so i didn’t think it would be outrageous to ask for a loan of 5000-10,000kr (roughly $500-1000) so that i could at least get out of my immediate debts, to pay back over 6 months which is a hell of a lot easier than paying back a loan that’s almost the same sum month after month but they said no.

i am already at a deficit and already using my credit card, and my next student loan is 3 weeks away so this hell cycle is just gonna continue and continue

according to tumblr i have 807 followers, i know it’s not possible for everyone to donate but

if it were possible for all of my 807 followers to donate $1 / £1 / €1 each, i could pay off this fucking high-interest loan that has a chokehold on me, pay off my credit card so that i don’t have to start each month with a deficit and basically i could be debt free which would literally mean the entire world because this is a situation that’s been going on for almost a year and uh yeah i won’t get into my mental health but let’s just say it’s fucking shit and then some

So I saw your psa about spam and thought you may know about this. I recently got an ask asking to boost a fundraiser for their cat. Thing is, it's a PayPal link, not gofundme or something. It's also a relatively new blog (4 days) with reblogs, but no tags or anything. I don't want to sus based on just that alone, but I could've sworn there was a thing about this being fishy or something and I can't find the post. Feel free to just ignore this, but if you have info, it would be appreciated.

Yeah, things like that are often scams. While there are legitimate fundraisers on this site, the pattern of recent pinned post + no reblogs + ask about a pet indicates it's a scam. I'd report and avoid it.

Edit: oh, also, want to give a warning to anyone who has legitimate fundraisers – sending asks asking for people to signal boost or donate to your fundraiser is a red flag to a lot of experienced Tumblr users. You're not gonna get help, you're gonna get people blocking you and warning others not to donate to you. And please, for goodness sake, don't give your donation post a thousand tags, because that's spam as well and will probably end up reported.

No random person with only one post on their blog, I will not.

And ill use this a segway to explain why I have not and likely will never reblog any gofundme links or any other of the sorts: It's so easy to scam people. We've seen misinformation and baits spread like wildfire here.

Ignoring the fact that gofundme apparently take a good portion of the money raised, I have no way of verifying any sob story with a link is anything other than a made up story. I am not giving my money let alone encouraging other people to give there's to a cause that could be fake. Im not saying every fundraiser is fake, I am acutely aware of the life we live I know we need to fund raise damn near everything even tho we pay taxes. But im not endorsing anything unless im sure.

And even then, sometimes there are better ways. Getting an itemized hospital bill, going to charities who are set up to help with these sorts of things, hell even talking to people with better knowledge on the matter, those will be more helpful than begging on a website not designed for this. I think theres a reddit or two dedicated to raising and finding resources in these kind of situations.

I do have sympathy for people in these kinds of awful situations, but I am of no help for them. And unfortunately most people on this website aren't either. I understand the desperation, I really do, but crowdfunding is not the miracle you think it's gonna be.

not gonna go on anon because i don't want this to seem like it's coming from some random, but i noticed that you reblogged a post from an account that also sent ME an ask asking to share that they need donations to help them and their family evacuate gaza. while i am usually more than happy to share posts to links for donating to those affected by the ongoing genocide, this account is highly suspicious and is more than likely a scam. I've had at least 3 blogs send me similar asks in the past month or so and they all follow the same patterns: - the blogs are a week or less old - they only have a few posts and no likes, reblogs, etc. related to interests, hobbies, etc. - their pinned post is asking for money in some way the fact that this is not the first time this has happened makes me even more sure that these blogs, including the one you reblogged from, aminaomark, are using the current situation in gaza to exploit kindhearted people into giving them money. these blogs exploit (especially tumblr's) culture of sharing posts for crowdfunding to help marginalized people out in order to scam so i understand making this mistake and I've certainly reblogged scam posts before, but I'm just sending this ask so you and others are aware of the prevalence of them and how to spot them in the future so you can avoid sharing the paypals and gofundmes of people who are using tragedies and inequality to line their pockets.

Screenshots above show the ask i received, the time in which their first post (a reblog) was made and the time in which they made their post asking for donations, both made at the same time.

Thank you for the warning. Now that you mention receiving asks similar to this from similar blogs I do understand how suspicious this is. It's hard to believe that someone could bring themselves to take advantage of a genocide to get money but unfortunately that seems the case. Thank you for helping me understand and spread awareness, it's definitely important to check blogs that might seem suspicious before trusting them.
