Archive Update!
We're now incredibly far past where I have any knowledge of the game, but not knowing anything about what I'm doing hasn't stopped me before, and it sure as heck won't stop me now! We open up with the mighty Color Dungeon and face the consequences of our own actions.
Link's Awakening DX 2 - Wakey, Wakey! Eggs and Sword is now up on the archive channel!

Weirdest glitch, but okay...
Right, for context, I’m replaying the Zelda series in timeline order.
Well, the timeline I’ve come up with anyway. Mainly to see if there’s any inconsistencies or anything that needs to be changed.
Anyway. Wall of text incoming.
I’m working on Link’s Awakening DX on the 3DS virtual console, and I’ve found what must be the weirdest, and yet oddly beneficial glitch ever.
So, anyone who’s played the game knows that there are two powerups you can pick up that drop after killing a certain amount of enemies.
The Piece of Power, which doubles attack and movement speed (quadruples if you have the red tunic) and the Guardian Acorn, which halves damage received (I think it quarters with the blue tunic?).
Each is supposed to wear off after taking three hits or entering a screen for a new area/leaving the screen you picked it up on.
As I was grinding early on for the 200 rupees for the Shovel, I noticed that when the last Piece of Power that I picked up wore off after going for a couple of minutes and I took three hits...
It didn’t wear off. I was still sending enemies flying across the screen and oneshotting Moblins.
I have a permanent Piece of Power effect. I’ve had it for almost an entire day now, and have cleared several dungeons.
But it doesn’t stop there, oh no.
When I got the the five golden leaves sidequest at the castle, I of course stopped off at the gate for the picture.
But, it didn’t trigger.
I went back and spoke to Richard again, returned... nothing.
After several attempts, I gave up and continued the play-through, figuring that the PoP glitch was also affecting that photo trigger.
At the entrance to Catfish’s Maw, I checked my items screen to see how close I was to completing another heart container.
Now, at this point, I should be missing three photos:
-The one with the tiny Zora in Animal Village (Need the Hookshot from this dungeon to get the Magnifying Glass for that one)
-The one where the camera mouse falls of the bridge up in the mountains. (I’m simply not up to that part of the game yet)
-And the castle gate one, as it wouldn’t trigger the cutscene.
My items screen said 10 photos out of 12.
Rushed back to the camera house to check the album. (Warping via Mambo’s song was pretty quick, and I used a restore point to quickly get back to the dungeon after)
The castle photo is there. Somehow?
At this point, I noticed one last thing.
Link?
Is red.
I checked the screen again and yep. I somehow have the Red Tunic, despite the fact that I haven’t gone to the Color Dungeon yet.
So. TL;DR:
On my Virtual Console copy of Link’s Awakening DX, I have a permanent Piece of Power active, with the sped up music randomly kicking in sometimes.
I have the Red Tunic, without doing the Color Dungeon, so now all my attacks do quadruple damage. I’ve been basically OHKOing everything, except bosses. And I killed the Boss of the Angler’s Tunnel in just four hits with the LvL1 sword without taking any damage.
And I somehow have that photo with Richard in front of the castle gate despite the fact that the cutscene never triggered.
So yeah.
The most weirdly beneficial glitch that I have ever experienced, and I can’t find a single thing about it online. (all searches come up for either the switch remake version or are talking about glitches that you can purposely do, but will screw up the game, like the screen warp one... Couldn’t find anything even remotely similar to what I’ve somehow accidentally activated...)
Interested in finding out if getting the LvL 2 sword cancels everything out, or if the PoP effect will stay. Might update this later when I get the last four seashells...
EDIT:
Nope, getting the sword didn’t undo anything. Still op af.

Hi so my mental illness keeps winning and I thought y'know?? since I've done ear comparisons and height comparisons for Link, how about skin tone?
I was curious myself for reference reasons and ended up being a little surprised, not only by the tonal variety but also by which Links have darker tones that the fandom totally sleeps on.
Like the height post, this is based solely on sprites / models and not concept or promo art. Notes below:
I tried colour picking directly from ripped character models for the most amount of accuracy and lack of in-game lighting. This was easier said than done in some cases. TP Link's model looks extremely grey and washed out without the game's lighting, so I had to use a neutral lit screenshot instead. TFH Link obviously does not look like a fucking Simpson, but finding a model without light and shading was impossible. These two were the most challenging.
For some reason, the same Links have drastically different skin tones in different games. Between Z1 and Z2 I can only assume Link became very sickly 😔
Comparing in-game skin tone to concept art is a bit like night and day sometimes. A notable example is ALTTP Link being much much paler (and without the iconic pink hair ofc)
Given the nature of skin, it's difficult to narrow these references down to just one colour. I consider this more a rough guide than a definitive reference sheet. I hope it's helpful, though!

Archive Update
Would you believe that I never really played this game properly before now? I've played up to one of the dungeons in here before on the 3DS, but I've never beaten this game. Now we get to give it a proper go!
Link's Awakening DX 1 - Smack That Snooze Button is now live on the archive channel!
