More mermaids more mermaids more mermaids!!! I don’t draw these two nearly enough and I’m so happy with how this turned out!

Akane is a lion fish because it just felt right lol, but I didn’t have a set idea for Nekomaru going in so I tried to do a bunch of research for a good fish to pair him with, but the internet just kept telling me about what fish to eat or put in a fish tank no matter what I looked up, so I finally went with a Red Sea Coral Grouper, because apparently it teams up with other kinds of sea creatures to hunt together (and it was neat looking lol)

Reminder this is US based, but let me know what invasive species you feel has had the biggest detrimental effect on where you live. Please share others of what you feel isn’t on this list it was hard to narrow it down to just nine.

I’m biased in my own answer (though it was difficult for me as well) as my capstone research was to document the ladybug species caught at my school’s field station, both what i caught myself and what they had in their pinned collections. I was horrified to find none of the bugs i caught or what my professors other classes caught were native almost all were the multicolor Asian lady beetle. The rest were other invasive beetles. Even in the pinned collections after the year they were introduced they dominated eventually beating out natives.

That being said if you’ve ever had the displeasure of battling knotweed you know how frustrating it is.

Art Weekend - Lion Fish by Eleanor Pigman

Originally a watercolor artist, Eleanor Pigman turned to beadwork after inheriting a large amount of seedbeads. Eventually focusing on marine life, Pigman uses both traditional and non traditional beading techniques to give her pieces a textural element. In Lion Fish, the framing of the fish makes the fish appear more three-dimensional and lifelike.
