Rabbi Lisa Bernstein had followed Marjan’s little trip around the ranch for the past five minutes or so. Which was why it wasn’t a surprise when she saw the young woman come her way, little Jonah still on her arm, playing with one of her necklaces. It made for an adorable picture.

“And here, we have Rabbi Lisa Bernstein, one of the two people officiating the wedding tomorrow afternoon,” Marjan spoke to her camera before angling it around to catch them both on screen. “Hello, Rabbi.”

“Hello, Marjan,” she greeted with a smile and a little wave to the camera before taking the hand Jonah was holding out to her. “And hello to you too, little man.”

“Rabbi, would you like to tell the people about some of the Jewish traditions we’ll be seeing tomorrow?”

“Of course,” Lisa exclaimed, “I’d love to.”

Tidbit Tuesday

This is a fragment from Crystal Spring Valley, as I'm now re-reading it. Trying to use the work-free month to make progress on two stories at the same time. Oi.

Building the new gangway took them four long-days. There was very little growth at the bottom of the gully, so at least that didn’t slow the construction, but they needed solid wood, and a lot of it. Initially only about twenty people were able to do the job. Then, as some of the less severely wounded were up to the task, the work went faster.  Luka was on the mend, at least physically. He was getting stronger every day and by the time the gangway was ready, he was able to walk to it on his own two feet. When it came to crossing it, though, he froze. The bridge didn’t seem solid – it shook and swayed as people walked on it, one by one. It was narrow too, and only had a railing – crooked and uneven – on the right side. The one where Luka was missing a hand.  “Come on.” Priya tried to goad him into taking a step forward. “I’ll help you, okay. I’ll hold the railing and you will hold onto my arm. Or I you can walk backwards. I’ll be in front of you, guiding you.”  But Luka shook his head.  “It’s best if I just-- If I just walk away.” His voice was rough and tone stubborn. “I’ll go down into the Valley. I don’t know. I’m not needed there.” He gestured at the walls rising on the other side of the gully. “You don’t need me.” “I do need you, Luka,” Priya said, but she wasn’t sure how to convince him. “Your sword arm is your left arm anyway,” she blurted out, against her better judgment. “You can still fight.” It was the wrong argument, and she knew it even before she spoke.  He gave her a glare and just like that, turned away and started walking down the borough and the remnants of their encampment.  “Luka, wait!”  Priya wanted to run after him, but it was Julia who changed his mind. She stepped in front of him and said something in a quiet voice, for his ears only. Luka stopped, looked at her, tried to shake his head, but she grabbed his face and spoke again, words Priya couldn’t hear, couldn’t read from the movement of Julia’s lips. Words she envied her so much. Those words convinced Luka to come back to the edge of the gully, to fight his fear and his helplessness. To cross to the other side and enter Fir Grove.  Priya was envious, but she was also very, very grateful to Julia for keeping Luka with them. And, hopefully, for giving him an incentive to fight for his health and for his future.

Top 5 Tarlos Scenes

This is tough because there are so many I love, but i'll try to narrow them down. (I want the record to show that I've demonstrated incredible restraint in not listing every hug they've shared because Tarlos' hugs are something else)

1. The (first) Proposal.

This scene will never fail to mess me up. I was so afraid the proposal would be cheesy. It was anything but. Sweet, quiet but emotional, with a little humor sprinkled in. Also, Carlos calling TK Tyler. Truly amazing.

2. TK waking up from his (third) coma.

I cannot put into words just how much this scene makes me soft. Like, first TK notices Carlos holding his breath and telling him to "breathe, baby", Carlos immediately obeying and coming closer. The hug itself; how Carlos is trying to cover TK up with his entire body. I just- 😭

3. 2x12 fire, and what came after it.

I can't find a gif of the I love you, too scene, but i did find this one. One of my favourite episodes because we got an I love you and TK being calm in crisis and Carlos being guilty and needing comfort which TK provided beautifully. Just *chef's kiss*

4. "Then I'll just have to introduce myself to you every day."

I've gone on a rant about this scene and how beautiful it is before so i won't bore you, but yeah, I still go back and watch it and cry once every couple of days lol.

5. Their Wedding.

I'm going to need some time to be able to fully appreciate their wedding because of everything that surrounded it, but it was so good and it had so many beautiful moments, but nothing was more perfect than their vows, particularly Carlos'.

Homesick Christmas (Tarlos Secret Santa)

Summary: Traveling was not Carlos's favorite thing. He much preferred being home. Being with family. But, with Christmas being a bit different this year, TK has suggested a Christmas getaway for the two of them, complete with snow and a Christmas market in the mountains. It should be perfect. Even if it isn't what he really would want for himself. But, maybe, just maybe, TK can make it even better, and prove that home is more than just a place.

Merry Christmas @bonheur-cafe! I hope you enjoy my take on your prompts. I apologize for not reaching out during the challenge to ask for more info. Time got away from me a bit this year. This is honestly the first thing I've written in six months. Much like Carlos, I'm a bit more aware of grief this year after losing someone this summer.

I tried to do a mix of two of the prompts from @tarlos-santa: Scenario 1: Carlos and TK are traveling for the holidays; Carlos' disdain for travel because he gets homesick comes to light. Scenario 2: A warm, comforting meal eaten on a miserably cold day. Some cuddling is also in order. Special thanks to @lire-casander and @marjansmarwani for putting up with me writing for the first time in months and helping, as always.

He sat on the couch looking through his laptop. Clicking through tabs left and right. He had to make things perfect this year. He had to. He just wanted to find the perfect Christmas getaway. They needed it. Now more than ever.  Neither of them would say it had been the best year, even with one of the best days of their life happening with the wedding. But, the rest of it… They had great hopes for it when it started. After all, they were still riding the high of a new engagement. Excited and ready to take on all that would come. Sure, they’d had rough years. Between shootings, dunks under ice, losing the firehouse…they didn’t think things could get much worse.  Even after everything with Gwyn.   But, they were wrong. They couldn’t have predicted what they faced over the past year. They didn’t expect kidnappings (again…) or Owen to deal with the FBI (maybe that should have been more obvious…) or to lose Gabriel (that one seemed to sting the most…). His eyes left his laptop and stared across the room at the bookcase. The picture from the rehearsal dinner sat proudly in the middle, for everyone to see. For them to remember the last night they had with the man. It had been perfect. He smiled sadly to himself and sighed once more. He tapped out a nervous rhythm on his keyboard and gazed back down at the tabs in front of him. Vacation spots stared back at him. Everything from resorts boasting great Christmas vibes in various states to beach houses that would offer some privacy to ski lodges that would offer a snowy holiday.  Continued on AO3
