20 questions for fic writers!
Thank you @orange-peony and @wellbelesbian for tagging me in this game! I feel sure that others have tagged me but I have become incapable of reading my activity feed.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
14! This feels both reasonable and correct. (one is a self-meta and one is a round robin fic)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
204,176 this feels correct and unreasonable.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Carry On, In Other Lands, apparently Check Please though I haven't published the thing yet.
Historically I've written for X-men the movie and Battlestar Galactica (BSG). Most of the fics in my profile are for BSG, and all of my X-men fic was on ff.n 🤷
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos
Number 1 is Good at Something by a ridiculous margin. Number 2 is A Dangerous Affinity by a normal margin Numbers 3-5 are fics in a series I wrote for Battlestar Galactica: Proof Positive (third in the series), Proving Grounds (first in the series), and Prove that you can do it better (second in the series), which I posted 8 years ago. So they've had a while to accrue readers.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do... most of the time. Sometimes I get overwhelmed and don't respond for a while. I intend to respond to comments, I don't always do so.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
A BSG fic called Grief. Which is actually about how horrible it feels to realize that your grief has lessened over time.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I suppose this is a deep spoiler, but I think A Dangerous Affinity has the happiest ending of anything I've written. It's happy for the characters (who don't die) as well as for the crossover setting it's based in.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really? The only thing I'd consider borderline "hate" is when someone bookmarked a fic I adore (An Arranged Meeting) with a long comment that included both of these phrases:
"you have to buy some changes in personality depiction" and "the random timeset of the vignettes is hard to follow."
And, listen. If you are reading a deep AU and you can't understand why people who have a meaningful change in their early professionally formative years might end up as different people, I don't know what to say to you. Also, like, I wrote it nonlinearly. That was on purpose! I love nonlinear narratives, I would change nothing.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yeah. Yep. All kinds? My BSG ship was het, I've written some femslash for Carry On, as well as a...um, fair amount of mascslash (is this a thing? I'm going with it), and in my Check Please fic there's an orgy, so. Lots of kinds of smut, though, as others have mentioned, I tend to trade in tender smut above all else.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Yeah, those 200k words up there? 125k of them is a Carry On/Scholomance crossover/fandom fusion. But the characters don't cross over, so... Shrug.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
nope
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope, but I *want to*
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
God, this is a hard question! I cannot. I will not. Pacey/Sage. There. Now you know.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I started writing a story in BSG that was based around the idea that Kara was adopted by Tigh and Ellen, and I wrote some stuff I really really love for it, but I lost the mojo around BSG around the time I was starting on that story.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Figurative language.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I really have to be yanked into the story I'm writing. It's difficult for me to find motivation to write unless the story is dragging me along kicking and screaming, or I've got some kind of external motivation to write. I feel very lucky to have had a lot of
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I think it can be necessary. I did it in ADA, and it was necessary, and I added translations in the title so it showed up on hover and end notes. I think that sometimes it's done when it's not necessary and then it bugs me, but as long as I'm being given adequate context to continue reading on, I'm happy. It's hard to write because inevitably when you're doing it, it's because someone is a native speaker/fluent, but likely you as the writer aren't, so you need to get someone who is to advise, which is not easy to do in fandom. I've been lucky to have friends and connections who can help with those things, but it's not a given.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
whispered Animorphs.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Good at Something. Closely tied with Holsom Timeloop/Friday Prime, which no one but @petedavidsonscock has put their eyes upon, and it's not yet finished, but I love it so much.
I'm tagging @fireinmywoods, @shrekgogurt, @petedavidsonscock, @facewithoutheart, and @cutestkilla if any of you haven't already done this

Ty for the tag @ihaventpickedausername!
Rules: Post the first sentence in your last 10 works; if you don’t have 10, do as many as you have.
Y’all always manage to find a way to get spoilers, don’t you bkshsjsjks
Anyway, I think I have ten? Idk, let’s see:
1. Echo woke to the smell of blood.
Chap four of Slow Down. Cause ofc it is :P
2. “Just go, I’ll catch up!”
From my Echo meets Hemlock wip which I… barely started… (so this probs won’t be the first line lol) But I have it all planned out! Just need the time 🫠
3. The empty silence in the cockpit was deafening.
From and Angstpril prompt! This one plays on that repeated line of “Just like old times” and uh… it’s v sad lol. Hoping I can do at least a couple of the prompts
4. “In that case, you all are coming with me…”
Really wonder if anyone could guess where this quote comes from lol. And shockingly, this one is both fluff and not Echo centric?? Somehow??? Idk my sister made me do it lol, Tech’s her fave :)))
5. “So what do I call you?” Echo asked, eyeing the bounty hunter suspiciously.
Again, haven’t worked much other than planning the idea on this one, but that’s the first actual line I have down. Absolutely obsessed w this longfic idea, once I’m done with slow down I can’t wait to start this one aaaajsgjshsjsjsk
6. Rain pattered gently against Echo’s armor, sliding off and forming small streams as it flowed past him on the Marauder’s ramp.
Now this one, this is the start of the sequel to On the Reg :)))) (Not gonna spoil the title just yet)
7. The transport shuddered violently as they broke Coruscant’s atmosphere and Echo squeezed his eyes shut, the dull pain flaring in his chest again.
Next chap of Arc Business, which is fairly fleshed out honestly? Idk just not motivated to finish it rn
8. The shuttle was right there.
Yeah….. betcha can’t guess how this one starts bskhsjsjs Basically an AU where Echo escapes Skako on his own, but loses his memory in the process. Confusion ensues, lots of tearful reunions, but uh honestly, it gets a little boring since the batch isn’t there? Might come back to this one and see if I can work them in, idk 🤷
9. The Bad Batch hated regs.
Wow so interesting lol. Pretty much a one shot where the batch realize Echo’s never spoken abt himself despite him always listening to them, and they desperately try to convince him on how important he is to them :))))
And for ten, gotta be honest I don’t have any real lines written for it but I think this bit is funny so:
10. Why hurt one of them when you can hurt both in the exact same way???
Completely self indulgent Fives Lives AU where he’s a sith tormenting them pre-order 66, the batch get him out and help him regain control of his mind only for order 66 to strike and only affect Echo :)))) So it’s the exact same problem, but swapped :))))) Yes this is all pain and no I really doubt I’ll ever write it lol

Thank you so much for tagging me @mychemicalrachel You made me really think about this one! 😘💖💖💖
Rules: in a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
I’m cheating because I’m procrastinating, these are mostly series, and I feel like babbling.🤣
1. The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley. 🐴🐎🐴 I was that crazy horse girl growing up and I re-read most of these books so many times, especially The Black Stallion Mystery, I could’ve quoted them. Except for the weird end-of-the-world one. That one scared me so badly, I never could finish it.
2. Man O’ War by Walter Farley. 🐴🏇🏇 Same reason, I was a horse-obsessed kid and this one about the real-life, famous racehorse moved me and made me cry and I told everyone for years that I wanted to be a jockey when I grew up. SPOILER: I did not achieve this dream. But I still remember the book and story very fondly.
3. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. 🌸💮🌸 I read this as a kid and thought it was lovely and sad and very moving. I listened to an audiobook of it a couple years ago, and it held up.
4. Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. As a teenager I got into the Tom Clancy novels (idk how; I think Mom bought me some used because they were very long and she thought it’d slow down my book consumption🤷), and I remember carrying this one to school for months because I would read it (656 pages!) in hidden snatches during study halls or free time. When I finished it, I did a book report on it and got an A.😂
5. Agatha Christie’s novels. I started reading them young and I think they convinced me that I and everyone I knew was eventually going to be poisoned to death or, alternatively, accused of poisoning someone to death.☠️🕵️🧐 She made me love mystery novels! I’ve started listening to her works on audiobooks and they’re still fun—overly convoluted and chock-full of dated red herrings—but fun!
6. The Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. 💖💖💖💖💖 I love these books so much. I stumbled upon the first one just browsing in the library as an adult, and I read the series as quickly as possible. They’re fantastic, and some of the best first-person, unreliable narrator books I’ve ever read. They’re funny and full of adventure because Amelia and her family are Egyptologists in Victorian times. The later ones don’t hold up quite as well because of one relationship I will never like, but they’re still better than most other mysteries. The author was an Egyptologist so she gets all that right. The audiobooks with Barbara Rosenblat are amazing—she is fantastic!
7. Die for Love by Elizabeth Peters. 💀💖 Her standalone novels are definitely dated, but still more fun and entertaining than most other authors. I just love her style of writing, and she crafts characters that make me care because they feel like fully realized people. This one is in another of her series featuring Jacqueline Kirby who might be a stand-in for the author, but as I approach middle-age, I appreciate her a lot more. 🤣 This one pokes gentle fun at the romance novel industry—not the novels because the author literally wrote romance novels under another name—but the publishing industry as a whole. I have no idea if things have improved, but I hope so.
8. The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.🐢🐘❣️❣️❣️ I can’t even pick out my favorites, or the ones who’ve influenced me the most, because they all have. Finding Terry Pratchett’s works changed my life, and specifically, changed my ideas about writing and storytelling. I could talk forever about everything I love about his writing--because even the books I don’t love the most still have made me think and analyze things about life and myself--but I won’t. Just go read them. If anyone wants a specific recommendation, hit me up. There are different sagas within the series, and you can start with one of them.
9. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich was really interesting to me because her writing style is so spare and her characters are complete caricatures, but it worked for, like, five or six fun books. By the time I found her books, I was in my 20s and analyzing writing styles, and I still don’t want to write like her, but it’s okay for a really quick, action-packed read.
10. The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. The first four books are incredible. The best fantasy I’ve ever read, and I will fight about this.😂🤣 I was introduced to them in college, and I read those 7 or 8 available, but especially the first four over and over. I loved his writing style, I was in awe of his world-building abilities, I adored his characters because even the ones I loathed felt like real people. I waited for years to read the final three, and I’m sorry and all apologies to Brandon Sanderson fans, but I was majorly, extremely disappointed. The change in style, the huge changes in characters, all of it was too much. I only read them once, cried a lot at the fate of some of my favorites, and was done. 😢

Rules: Post a screenshot of your lock screen photo, a screenshot of the last/current song listened to, as well as the last photo of a celebrity that you saved in your phone.
Haha I mean this all checks out honestly. Lock Screen I mean yeah 🤷 usually for Halloween but now I been using it more haha. Song rest in peace by BLÜ EYES is such a mood made me realize more and more I was always nonbinary. Dean okay technically a character but I did find picture of him to show my sister, since we watch Supernatural together.. so sorry for spoiler 😬.

Yo I got tagged by @thischapstickaddict so let’s have some fun!
Favorite color: wow, staring off with the difficult questions 😜 it’s probably a tie between Purple and Yellow. All the things in my house (couch, pillows, sheets) are purple, but allllll of my clothes are yellow! What does it mean?!?
Currently reading: I’m finally reading Dune. Well, I’m listening to the audiobook and I’m about 5 hours in. I feel like if I was reading it I would be struggling to keep all the space names straight, but because it’s the audiobook it’s much easier for my brain to process so now I’m VERY INVESTED in this very dry planet.
Last song: Waking Up by Kero Kero Bonito. It’s a good morning song :) and I need a good groove (and caffeine) to actually wake up.
Last movie: Jennifer’s Body 🔥 which my friend insisted we watch because “it’s exactly our relationship!” And then we proceeded to watch the gayest horror movie about compulsory heterosexuality so now I’m going to re-examine our entire relationship. 👍👍
Last series: Ted Lasso! I’m not caught up yet so no spoilers, but I’m gonna go on record that after Jamie does some more self reflection he and Keeley and Roy would just make the BEST throuple.
Currently craving: a “bad” movie that I will start with very low expectations and end up really enjoying. Examples: Power Rangers (2017), Daphne and Velma (2018), Ghost Rider (2017)
Tea or coffee: coffee but I really need to have like two beverages at all times 🤷
Currently working on: pulling my hair out cause I have no idea what to draw! Feeling very uninspired! Suggestions welcome at this point.
Not gonna tag anyone cause I’m bad at having internet friends, but take this as an open invitation if you wanna do one of these 🖖

i had a molly playlist back in summer/fall 2018 that was primarily songs i particularly liked from a shitton of other people’s 8tracks playlists. late last night i tried listening to it but only got about 44 seconds into the first song before i started crying again, so i’m trying again now that it’s daytime. and it’s going here because my twitter thread was getting ridiculous and i didn’t have room to tag spoilers on every single tweet
Rescue Me by Thirty Seconds to Mars “Whatever you do, don't ever play my game Too many years being the king of pain You gotta lose it all if you wanna take control Sell yourself to save your soul Rescue me from the demons in my mind" hell yeah that still tracks
The Parting Glass by The High Kings (...yeah no i wasn't ok that summer thanks for asking lmao) "And all the harm I've ever done Alas, it was to none but me And all I've done for want of wit To memory now I can't recall" this still works but overall it's about leaving so 🤷
Four by Gloomcatcher "I could control the colors of the night above me I had a pain of love somewhere inside move through me What was my name? How did I get here? Somehow I've forgotten" "And the mouths with their tongues saying words that I already said" holy shit YES :o
War: Pt. II by Former Vandal it doesn't really work for right now but i guess it works overall "they say the good die young, but they never really tell you that they never die alone. We all fall down. Bury a bit our souls six feet under ground."
The Trick to Life by The Hoosiers again, i guess it works for the overall concept of the character but meh
I Lived by OneRepublic Hope that you fall in love And it hurts so bad... And I hope that you don't suffer But take the pain" @ yasha though "I swear I lived" if there was ever any doubt that he was his own person, it's gone now?
Roads Untraveled by Linkin Park i'm kinda happy this doesn't work at all anymore. i kinda grew up with Linkin Park and i still get a bit sad about it. so it makes sense it was on the original playlist but this song is definitely not the vibes for the updated one
Dance in the Graveyards by Delta Rae "When I die, I don't want to rest in peace I want to dance in joy, I want to dance in the graveyards" i mean, if you take it extremely literally, then yes absolutely lmao
Ain't No Grave by Johnny Cash "ain't no grave can hold my body down" yeah absolutely works but i don't actually like this song too much 😅
Grave Digger by Blues Saraceno YES i was thinking about this song before episode 140 and i was only thinking about it in terms of Lucien and how i was kinda hoping for Cad to get the HDYWTDT. what actually happened fits this song even better “Save me if you can The time for me has come Let me be the one that got away” “Whisper to your God Allow me to be saved” literally though. Cad whispered to his god and allowed molly to be saved
Meet Me in the Woods Tonight by Lord Huron am i supposed to copy and paste the lyrics for the entire song here? because the whole song is perfect. “I took a little journey to the unknown And I've come back changed I can feel it in my bones” “How long baby have I been away?” “There ain't language for the things I've seen And the truth is stranger than my own worst dreams” “Say goodbye to who I was I ain't never been away so long Don't look back them days are gone Follow me into the endless night I can bring your fears to life” parts of it feel a bit call and response and it actually works perfectly that every other line feels slightly more Molly and the others feel a bit more Lucien.
then there were a few from the official playlist that taliesin made and i don’t think i need to discuss those lol
