The Dryad, I've missed her

"What did I ever do to make you hate me so much?" No because one day I will write an essay on how all of Josie's love interests end up hating Lizzie for no reason and/or misinformed reasons and there's one common denominator.

The irony in Penelope telling Lizzie that she's left Josie with no room for herself when it's actually the opposite way around. Like real quick Miss Park, which one of them are you telling that they can't pursue their interests because the other twin might want it too?

I will never understand why Penelope acted like Lizzie and Josie couldn't both run for council. It was an open election. All she had to do was put her name in.

"She spends all her energy taking care of you." To recap in the past four episodes she has spent her energy trying to win over Rafael, trying to convince everyone to hate Penelope and not talk about her, trying to get offensive magic put into the school curriculum, trying to get everyone to lose the football game, and trying to drive a deeper wedge between Hope and Lizzie during community service. Now which part of that is taking care of Lizzie?

and now, to answer your question, here are the potential people i see for elena in the tvd universe who i consider best as endgame for elena.

(for anyone who disagrees with this post, please note that these are my personal opinions and i'm absolutely sure there's no need to start a catfight in the comments section <33)

so, for this analysis, i'm considering elena as bisexual (which i generally do, since she's had chemistry with both male and female characters in the show that has potential to be endgame)

elena & tyler — tylena would've been such a delight! both of them had amazing, top-notch reactions every time they had a scene together, be it good or bad and i would've loved it if they were endgame. tyler is incredibly loyal to elena and is also very protective and supportive of his significant others. he's also very passionate and blunt and provides constant assurance to his partner, which is something elena needs in the world of supernaturals. on the other hand, elena would always love tyler with her whole heart and never be afraid of his wolf side and would even aid him in his transformations even if he posed a significant threat to her life span.

elena & elijah — hands-down, the ultimate tvdu power couple. both complement the other's personalities and values. i've written a long-ass post as to why elejah is absolutely magnificent and i'll just link it right here for anyone who is interested to give it a read <33

elena & marcel — power couple in the chat! king and queen of new Orleans, jazz dances in rousseau's, and a much better rain kiss GUARANTEED. that man would literally sweep elena off her feet and everyone else would be absolutely fuming lmfao

elena & rebekah — s4 really just put beklena into the competition. with the constant rivalry they had in s3, s4 just gave a whole new perspective to things. from all the relationships rebekah has had, elena would've been the most healthy partner out of marcel and whoever else she's had a relationship with. plus, in some way or the other, just like elijah, rebekah made elena realize her worth.

elena & bonnie — perfect for friends-to-lovers. plus, both have the all dying and sacrificing thing very common between them. bonlena just speaks for itself and honestly, bonnie is wayyyy healthier for elena's mental sanity and like rebekah and elijah, she also reminds elena of her worth. however, a bonus point with bonnie is that there's a lot of trust and assurance between the two and both of their values hardly clash. it's just another ship that you'd definitely root for as endgame.

elena & freya — the only mikaelson elena has never got a chance to meet is freya. i believe freya and elena woild definitely complement each other. meet disaster turned cute friendship turned into a romance built on everlasting and heart-racing love. and hell yeah they'd definitely hit it off the second they met each other! (plus, both of them would make each other laugh a whole lot more with how serious freya is and how miserable elena's life is)

elena & jackson kenner — both have similar values towards friendship, romance and family and honestly, this is just such a wholesome ship. the thought it makes me positively squeal. if you're open to jacklena and would like to explore more, @sevensistersofsussex's 'throne of blood' is a brilliant place to start <33

elena & klaus — this is an incredibly rare pair which i 100% endorse. i know they may not seem to be compatible with the constant fighting between them. but they can be a beautiful relationship if given a chance and (i assure you) A WHOLE LOT BETTER than delena. for reasons why i ship them, i'll link the post right here. for reasons why i endorse them 100% and find them compatible, i believe my fics are more than enough for an answer. there's also 210+ fics under the klaus/elena tag on ao3 and they are brilliantly written by some of the writers i consider as my family and if you wish to explore, i'm linking my recs post right here <33

elena & kol — again, very self-explanatory. like damon, kol is also very capable of unlocking elena's adventurous style but UNLIKE damon, kol has massive potential to do it in a healthy manner. plus, can you imagine the shenanigans they could get upto? katherine would straight up say 'nope, i am outta here'

elena & finn — istg, our queen is compatible with every mikaelson LMFAO i legitimately love finnlena. they're so precious and they both wish to be human at the end of the day and with finn, i don't think elena would face that much trouble with how less number of enemies finn has (except for klaus and kol lmao)

elena & cami — our two human firebirds would be AMAAAAZING for each other <33 plus, both of them would be requiring a drink at the end of every goddamn day after dealing with the mikaelsons and salvatores.

elena & enzo — bonenzo serves as proof of how much of an amazing and healthy partner enzo is and i think he'd be great for elena! both of them would be an amazing support to each other and they'd definitely hit it off!

elena & kai — i think they'd make a pretty great ship. kai's association with elena might make him think about restraining his murderous tendencies and turn him into an anti-hero like klaus. though, i think he'd have much trouble restraining elena from attacking anyone who tries to harm him or their loved ones (he wouldn't stop her tho, he'd just find a tub of popcorn and enjoy the show)

elena & hayley — they've interacted less, yes, but i don't care, i find the romance side of haylena to be incredibly hot. plus, elena would be a brilliant step-mom to hope <33

elena & lucien — again, they have had zero interactions over the course of the show and its universe. but i find this ship really freaky in a good way and i wouldn't mind seeing elena with lucien 👀

elena & aurora — again, same explanation as lucien & elena's dynamic.

and finally, an honourable mention...

elena & henrik — if the show could've accommodated henrik somehow by bringing him back and possibly him being aged up due to magic, i see fionn whitehead playing an adult henrik. according to, like, my headcanon (based on theory), henrik and klaus are half-siblings of the other mikaelsons, meaning henrik is also esther's child with klaus' father, making henrik a werewolf-vampire hybrid too. he was always quite fascinated with werewolves like klaus and unlike elijah, rebekah, finn and kol so he does seem to be klaus' blood brother and half. he'd definitely be the most interesting mikaelson sibling of all and i think, with given time, elena and henrik would've had a pretty sweet relationship.

So, when did you start writing?

I started really writing, like 10 years ago now - right into 2013. I had discovered and gotten very into (I'm shy to say) k-pop, and at the time, social media was new to me. I had joined a couple of forums here and there, but really got into the thick of it once I joined Twitter and Tumblr. It was also then - for the 1st time - that I found out about fanfiction, which was an unfamiliar concept to me.

Its a bit blurry, but I remember I started reading a few stories here and there about my fave group at the time and - I don't remember the specifics but - I had eventually started coming up with wild scenarios, small ideas here and there, that I wanted to put down on paper.

Writing in general was relatively new to me (a few years before, when I was in high school, I was writing "poems" and other notes in a massive emo-like notebook - all because of a boy of course), so the idea of creating something substantial, like the fics I had read so far, was a bit terrifying but also kind of exciting because I stumbled on something brand new to me and was dying to be part of it along with some new online friends I had made (which I unfortunately lost touch with over the years).

Within the span of 2013-2015, I wrote 28 stories (on a 3rd party site) - a mix of one shots and multi-chaptered fics, which includes 2 unfinished stories - which were left to die by 2017-2018. I had finished school and started working, which totally changed my routine. The lack of interactions in the fandom didn't help either as by then, it was pretty much dying from the band's moving on and eventually disbanding. The stories are still there, my account is still there, as I don't have the heart to take it down. I've spent so much time on them, and loved every genre I wrote. I either went fluffly fluff or super angst and dark, all of them fun to write.

After that I moved away from the fandom as well and just the k-pop scene in general. I took a hiatus from writing altogether too - the will of it had died so I mostly focused on editing. And then, I started back again in 2020, wrote a couple of stuff on Tumblr (for the 1st time) until I stopped again a few months later. The inspiration stopped and I just couldn't bring myself to write anymore. So I moved away.

And then this year, TLK happened and I just had the inspiration back on the tip of my fingers, just swirling in my brain and was dying to write it down, so I gave it another shot and wrote my first Finan fanfic. It was very rusty getting back into it after so long but I'm glad I did because I got to meet amazing people which I'm grateful for.

I have a tendency of daydreaming a lot, I can easily get lost it my own head. Finding out I could actually just write them down, liberating everything I held up and see them face to face vs. just thinking about them, became a whole new ball game.

Where did the plot for timeless come from?

It hit me out of nowhere and happened when I was re-watching The Originals (TVD spin off). I'm not sure how, but it physically/literally stopped me in my tracks (mind you I wasn't doing anything special, just going to the kitchen to get a snack) as if I was hit on the head with it, like, "Yes! omg! shit! this is it!!"

I immediately picked up my phone and started typing random thoughts and notes down for the story. It was very rough, just generalized ideas of what could happen. Some of those ideas did change trajectory from where they started, but I'm hoping they were good changes and worth the story telling 😊

Watching The Originals helped with the inspiration. I knew Finan was always meant to be cursed, I just had to figure out the best way to present it. I also drew inspiration from other witch shows like Charmed, A Discovery of Witches, and BTVS. I love anything related to the supernatural and witchcraft, so it was fun coming up with the initial layout of the story.

At the beginning, I debated if it should be a one-shot or multi-chapter based on how much I had come up with. I was 99% sure I would stick with the one-shot, but eventually the 1% took over and I just went from there...the lines took a life of their own.

Explain your interpretation of Finan. What drives him? Why is he the way he is in timeless?

I was mostly trying to stay true to how his character was built on the show and transport that in writing within the concept of the story (I'm sure I've strayed, but hopefully that's alright).

When we first meet Finan, he's infiltrated modern day life as if he was part of that world, always. Then he meets a woman on a random night and everything changes for him.

Thinking of it this way, the man has been by himself for a thousand years - the life he knew, his family, his friends - everything from his past has disappeared and he is all alone, and so he was just at this point in his existence where he was done with everything, partly discouraged from being immortal, partly begrudgingly accepting of his fate as a man who will never die.

But then he meets Rebecca, a woman who has no inkling whatsoever of who Finan is, i.e. their meet up was random passing of time in the(ir) universe. Once they meet, his life alters. She was the light at the end of a tunnel, she was a beacon of hope. Meeting her, befriending her - he found purpose again. He was ready to fight again, to live like a normal man again.

Throughout the story, I tried to focus on this aspect specifically - on the basis that he is hopeful to become a free man again. And though, there is conflict within himself, to the point he was ready to give up again, I'd like to think that Rebecca was simply someone he needed in his life. Not because of what she could do for him, but because of who she was, as a character, as a person to him. She put her life on hold for him and in return, the universe gave them something that everyone wants - to love and be loved and not be so alone in the world.

Finan, having been alone for a century, found his drive through Rebecca - through her presence, always standing by his side and fighting for him. Them falling in love was an added bonus.

Do you feel Rebecca/Bex complement Finan in this?

I would like to think that she does, because she gave him a new spark into his life, allowing him to feel truly alive again - which was something he had been deprived off since his original lifetime (i.e. since the TLK era).

With Bex's stubbornness driving him insane at times, I think it also helped him on the hope aspect - she was willing to go to the ends of the earth for him, for someone she had just met all because she wanted to make things right, to help him (a stranger, when they met) find peace. She wasn't reluctant about it nor did he even ask for help (he was the apprehensive/suspicious one). And I believe, at the end of the day, it all came down to how they felt about each other from the night they met. They unintentionally nurtured a connection they created until it became so immense, they ended up wearing it naturally, like a second skin.

Not only was she his anchor to the world of the living, Bex had become the part of him that died a long time ago. This makes me believe - in a some kind of weird way - that she was his soulmate. That, despite the heaviness of the curse, Finan was meant to cross path with her, that the(ir) universe gave him a break in the form of a kind-hearted and stubborn as a mule witch. A woman who would end up gifting him a second chance, and the opportunity to experience the good aspect of life again (as well as love).

Where did the dreams and the curse lore come from?

The dreams part of the story was inspired by The Originals, as there is the concept of the “other side” where non-resting souls are (the cemetery/graveyard scene description was inspired by the one they have on the show) - so I leveraged it and made it so Bex was forced into contact with another witch while sleeping instead of through a spell (as she had no reason to contact the dead while awake).

For the curse, I knew what I wanted out of it as it was already part of the original draft when I first came up with this story idea. I knew where it was taking me and how I would want it built - the reasoning behind it though was a bit if the tough part which I had also integrated into the storyline with Bex losing her shit over it.

Any chance of a sequel? Or do have anything else you are working on next?

So, unfortunately no sequel. But it does not mean I haven't thought of an epilogue - or kind of. Just random scenes with Bex of what life is after the ending that randomly play out in my head. I don't think I'll want to write them mostly because I want to keep the ending as is.

I'm working through a few other stories at the moment. The priority ones are for Osferth (a one-chaptered drabble for your 1k celebration, and a multi-chaptered fic which will also tap into the supernatural concept), which I am hoping to get started - officially - very soon!

I have some others dangling as well, which should eventually come soon as well - this includes Finan, Sihtric and Aemond.

I am a huge romantic. Romance, to some capacity, is required in almost every story I read or watch. As a result, I have a lot of couples I like. But shipping is another level of interest. So I decided to go with these three because I spent the most money on them lol. I've bought comics, audio dramas, books, and boxsets. And for those wondering why I didn't put Klaus/Caroline from TVD...they broke my heart that's why. :(

Ariadne: The Novel. Literally just finished this morning, so my frustration is still fresh. I absolutely adore the story of Ariadne and Bacchus. I almost wrote a novel based on them when I was 19 but I decided not to continue. But because I am so familiar and fascinated by them, I should not have bought this book. The book itself is fine. It was just a mismatch of expectations.

Yes, in the Greco-Roman myths, there is a running theme that some individuals are heroes to men but dogs to women. And there are few variations to Ariadne's story, so one never knows which direction the author will go. But there is more to Ariadne than being a perpetual victim to all the men in her life. At least, to me, there is. This is why, if I have doubts, I usually check the middle of a book before I buy it. I checked this time too, and I thought I was safe, but it was actually the last pages that ruined it for me.

I wanted to read the liberation and empowerment of Ariadne, her conversion from the naive, discarded princess to the triumphant Libera, the ascendant goddess whose name literally means free; the woman who latched hold of a once in a lifetime opportunity and carved a place for herself in the halls of Olympia after her lover, Theseus, abandoned her to starve to death on the shores of Naxos; the Libera who watched, enthroned, as her would-be killer suffered a series of mishaps and fell from grace in the eyes of gods and man.

And were all those mishaps accidents? Or curses? And if so, by whom? Her? Bacchus? Another deity? Is Ariadne foolish or cunning, haughty or generous, vengeful or forgiving? There are so many routes her story can go. However, this book does not take the route of the empowered Libera. It has a negative character arc, which - again - is fine, just not for me. Unless it's about the protagonist turning into the villain in which case it's 100% for me.

Other books I'm currently reading because I do not read one book at a time: Francine Rivers's The Lady's Mine; Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None; Tom Baker's Scratchman; James Patterson and Emily Raymond's The Girl in the Castle; and Jacqueline Rayner's Legends of Camelot.

And don't get me started on the endless list of ongoing manga/manhua I read monthly.

currently watching: Nothing really. I've been meaning to watch the latest season of You. And I've rewatched a couple Doctor Who eps for research (fanfic) purposes. But I don't really watch tv anymore, at least I don't regularly follow any tv shows like I used to.

Hey! so idk if this has been said before but julie plec or whoever came up with all these pregnancy plot lines on tvd really gave strong pro-life vibes. like there's caroline who is impregnated without her will, she essentially does not have the choice to not keep it bc the emotional fallout would be crazy and they're the last of the coven and it's all super tragic. then there's hayley who is pregnant with the child of literally the most abusive man on the planet and Elijah decides that this baby will be their saving grace, and there's no question of whether hayley can have an abortion (iirc) then she moves in with what is supposed to be the most nefarious family which just further puts her in a situation where she can't safely make the decision to not have the child if she so decided.. like they really seem to be pushing an agenda here imo, the option is just never on the table for this or that reason

In general i hate when tv shows give an accidental pregnancy to a woman and the word abortion isn't even mentioned.

Yeah, so, having been around the tv block, I can say, the pro-life vibe from TVD based on their pregnancy plotline choices aren't unique to TVD. Almost every single American show I've watched that introduces a surprise baby plot, abortion isn't on the table. In more modern times, let's say the last 10-15 years, abortion has become peppered into dialogue as an option, but never as a solution. It's usually a miscarriage, or in the case of, Gossip Girl for example, the fear of pregnancy, but then not being pregnant. And tbh, I think that's just the general social conservatism, though. I find that abortion, just with regular people is a touchy topic, so writers tend to play it safe, or they overplay it (TVD) and do some really weird shit that crosses some boundaries when they aren't good writers. I can only think of one show where the woman actually went through with an abortion, and it was an Australian show called Please Like Me, and I liked that, she quietly had her abortion, and wasn't like, bouncing back and happy the next episode, it sat with her for a couple episodes, and she wasn't really interested in talking about it. It was just something she had to do. I thought that was a decent, balanced approach. I would like to get to a time where abortions in tv are looked at the same way any other medical procedure would be, but with the state of things, I'm not sure that's possible lol.

As for TVD specifically, I think part of the problem is, Julie & co are absolutely horrific writers, and their understanding of consent is OBVIOUSLY murky. They have a history of messing with the consent of the women on the show (Elena & sirebond, Caroline and compulsion etc). So when Haley got pregnant I rolled my eyes SO hard, because it was also meant to be like, Klaus finally has a family, and it's fraught and there's anxiety of keeping this baby, blah blah. But honestly, any sane woman would've just gotten an abortion and disappeared lol. Caroline being nonconsensually impregnated with the twins was like...the stupidest plotline to me because I kept feeling like, there HAD to be a better way to execute it, but it goes to show how bad they are at writing. There were a million ways to execute that stupid plotline that didn't force Caroline to give birth against her will. Julie ripped so much from btvs but somehow missed the Dawn plotline where Dawn was just THERE, and as viewers we were all like...???? But to everyone else, they'd always been there? Or the children being introduced and left in her care? Like a BUNCH of other ways that would've also been more narratively interesting than THAT. And because of the lack of consent, and all those things, it comes across as ESPECIALLY pro life because abortion isn't even an option, it's an unwanted and unplanned for pregnancy, and yet still the woman goes through with it. I don't know that that was their intent, because I don't know much about their politics, but the optics are awful. It's tempting to say that they're too stupid to see what they've done, but I think, even if they are, it doesn't make it less problematic.

Is it OTPs if it is more than one or just favorite ships?

These pairings beat the odds and stand the test of time. They genuinely choose to love every day, even if it’s the least easy path. None of them expect to fall in love. Most go through (figurative with some literal) hell and heaven and back for each other.

1. Melinda Gordon & Jim Clancy

They are the most healthy and realistic TV couple I’ve ever witnessed. Truly my place of realistic bliss! Simple but just as effective.

2. Jamie & Claire Fraser

These two individuals are true equals in every sense of the word - independent heroes. They don't depend on each other to be strong individually, but they choose to be together which makes them even stronger. I appreciate how they believe in and respect each other immensely, even through the toughest of times. Admittedly, the show's time-travel and heroics were unrealistic for our current times. However, what I found truly beautiful was the way these two characters loved each other. It was a healthy, supportive love that one might find in a strong marriage. They both faced different kinds of emotional and mental trauma, but they were always there for one another, holding each other up during the darkest times until they each found their way back to themselves. Seeing this kind of love portrayed on screen was truly special and rare.

3. James Valdez & Teresa Mendoza

Peter Gadiot and his heart eyes can handle things independently, but when he's with Teresa, it's a tremendous slow burn! SBs are my ultimate weakness. I'm here for the adventure, but even if you remove the thrilling and dangerous cartel aspect for a moment, you still have two relatable characters. I love that this show ensures realistic responses to traumas and surroundings. The incredibly attentive and gentle connection that develops between them is convincing. It grows into something undeniable and irreplaceable. It's a story of two people who suppressed love and let their cool, traumatized shells guide them for far too long. Luckily, they eventually managed to express their emotions and made it. This love is built on mutual trust, loyalty, and intelligence.

4. Olivia & Fitz

OK, who’s going to admit that they at some point loved the idea of forbidden scandalous fruit which must be kept a secret?! The chemistry! The high stakes! The epic drama of it all! These two are so soft and yet on fire at all times. Cons: it's not that realistic, and it’s a very unhealthy coupling.

5. Bonnie & Damon

The laughter! The unexpected pure friendship! Yes, this ship was categorized as platonic, but it wasn’t if you listened to Kat and Ian’s interviews. They explain it well if it’s not apparent enough on screen. If you’ve read the books, you know romance was initially part of their story. I only watched the show but believe these two characters are fun/nier and a healthier match than Delena ever was. Also, Ian Somerhalder wouldn’t have continued in the show without Kat Graham’s Bonnie Bennett! Honestly, none of the characters would live to season 8 without Kat’s character. Bonnie was an ideal character all on her own from the start, even before she knew her true power, but (as unfair and racist as it was/is) Kat Graham only got more screen time because of Bamon. In contrast, Damon’s character arc to becoming his best self was primarily because of her. I digress. I love Ian and Kat. The growth of these two characters over TVD’s eight seasons is tremendous. I just love the history, the quick wit, the “can’t bulshit me” soft magic between them.

6. Elena Gilbert & Damon Salvatore (Delena)

Who doesn’t like to indulge in a cliche love triangle when it manages to be this epic?! Drama drama drama, and yet this pair is SO GOOD! I’m a bit biased. Cons: Not realistic and mostly unhealthy

7. Vivienne Surefire & Sunny Sweeney (🍒☀️)

Fic otp! Aerial - Another unexpected slow burn! A story about having to often get things very wrong before getting them right. These characters don’t start romantically brushing elbows until the 27th chapter or so. It’s full of angst, and soft, loved-up, ethereal molten hot feelings, with a picturesque setting throughout! Pros: poetically written - almost every line is a pretty and moving description. Cons: a little too idealistic for reality

8. Bonus:

Click to each the video of these two jaguars in love! Jaguars are my favorite big cat, and I resonate with their spiritual symbolism. Unfortunately all animals in sanctuaries are endangered species. Luckily, these cats are respected and get all that they need. Jaguars are naturally solitary creatures. Yet look at my favorite Jaguar couple, defying it all, loving, purely to love. Meet Neron & Kiera - a real-life jaguar couple who live at the big cat sanctuary in England. Neron is the melanistic male, and Kiera is the tan female. They had a cub a year ago and may have another later. They are so tender with each other. I love how their personalities are opposites, but they love each other anyway.

Many tv series and books are not realistic but I like that my favorite pairs have some realism and remind me/taught me a few things about healthy, enduring love. Ultimately, I must respect myself and enjoy my life and know myself as much as I respect others to get the most out of life.

TVD anon again - I am so with you on preferring Bangel to Spuffy but Delena to Stelena. I think for me it comes down to joy and happiness. Despite the show's (sometimes accurate, sometimes exaggerated) narrative that Delena was all about physical passion and toxic, we actually see so much of Delena connecting on every level and making each other genuinely happy. They challenge each other and, yes, annoy each other, but they also have so many moments of happiness, mutual support, complete and unreserved connection and affection, etc. Buffy, by contrast, seemed miserable or at the very least mistrustful and wary around Spike like literally almost ALL the time. She never let herself fully love him (understandably imo) or even be truly happy and free around him, while Elena absolutely does around Damon. It's a Tumblr narrative that Delena was more unhealthy than Spuffy, but for me it's just the opposite! Delena was, imo, much more balanced and happier, Just wanted to vent to a fellow Bangel shipper who loves Delena too! Btw, I also agree with you about Elena being introspective and a lot more relatable yet complex than most fans give her credit for!

Hi again! I agree with everything you've said. It's interesting that you pointed out Buffy never let herself truly love or trust Spike. Imo, she only let herself trust him in season 7 because she felt utterly alone and he lived for her (and also because she had become so numb to everything). Elena also initially refused to let herself fully love or trust Damon (and ended up doing both against her better judgement), yet, eventually, chose to love and trust him, knowing, and begrudgingly accepting, that he would inevitably betray her. Perhaps her trust wasn't unconditional, but her love was. Elena and Damon were committed to each other and understood what that commitment entailed. For Elena, it meant accepting Damon's homicidal and self-sabotaging tendencies, as well as his selfishness and impulsiveness. For Damon, it meant accepting he'd need to be on his best behavior and to protect Elena's interests - her loved ones, her values - even when they didn't align with his own. They both made sacrifices and compromised for the sake of their relationship, even if Elena's concessions seemed much bigger than Damon's. The point is, Elena and Damon had a genuine relationship. They knew what they wanted and what the other wanted, and although they struggled to reconcile both, they chose to try. That's one of the things that made them compelling imo, and actually healthier than they may appear to be.

You're also right that Damon and Elena had shared interests and values, knew how to have fun together, and worked well together too. One of my favorite aspects of their dynamic was them being a power couple in seasons 5 and 6. Spike and Buffy were never on the same page, or a power couple of any kind. Buffy needed Spike in a sense, but despised him too, and never completely changed her mind about him. He was more like a sidekick or, worse, someone she had to babysit in season 7.

would you analyze haylijah?

You read my mind (literally I was just thinking about this last night)!

Firstly, I’m sorry how long I took to answer, work was killing me. I also wanna say how appreciative I am that people like you are interacting with me, so thank you!

Okay, so Haylijah! What I take from them is a simple issue that the writers continue to make in to and tvd: beating a dead horse. Confession time! I genuinely liked these two in season one. They were cute, had good chemistry, a connection that wasn’t inherently toxic, and just cause they were paired didn’t mean they were tied to each other (I.e - had different storylines and stuff to do). I also liked how they took their time with it (like I said, they had stuff to do). I mean, I guess Hayley falling for the brother of her baby daddy is a bit weird of a dynamic, but it’s not like Klaus owns her just cause they slept together once. It also helped that I enjoyed both characters at the time. That’s really it, just a surprisingly unproblematic pairing. So what happened? A lot, a lot happened.

In season one, we are introduced to Jackson (who’s his own can of worms, believe me) and is immediately presented as a love interest for Hayley (love triangle oh boy!). It’s not really until season two that Hayley shows signs that she might feel things for the man, and then they have to get married. Couple that with Elijah inexplicably being distant towards Hayley for reasons I can only guess are to raise conflict and nothing else (cause seriously it made no sense). So they sleep together (I don’t know either, guess they patched things up and love each other again. You’ll notice that’s a theme) after Hayley explains that she’s marrying Jackson and they can’t be together. We skip to the wedding and they both have a heart to heart and end their relationship for good. I have to be honest, as a finale to this ship, it was perfect! It wasn’t just Hayley repeating “I’m marrying Jackson for the pack, we can’t do this anymore,” Hayley brought up her issues with Elijah. He’s the kind of guy who isn’t good at showing his feelings (to each their own), and Hayley wants more. She gave her entire heart to Elijah and got barely anything in return. Maybe she doesn’t love Jackson now, but he’s what she wants and perhaps she can learn to. Good scene, good episode, good season. This talk was expanded a bit in the finale when Gia had gone to Elijah, and just when it looks like he’s pushing another person he cares for away he goes back and kisses her (this might be me stretching but I have an overactive imagination). So what happened? It wasn’t over.

Season three had these two interacting a lot more (I mean Hayley didn’t have her own storyline at this point, so it’s unsurprising), and the writers decided to give them this lingering tension as to hang onto the pairing. Now I don’t know about y’all, but at this point in the show I had moved on. Why can’t these two just be friends, why is this still a thing? This is the nature of every scene they share (which is a lot of scenes, Hayley do you have nothing better to do? Wait, I just remembered thanks to the writers you don’t!) until Jackson dies, and suddenly things go from lingering tension to will-they-won’t-they. Now, I don’t have a problem with this trope when done well, but the problem is this is less of potential and more dunking it in the water and taking it back out over and over. These two were together, but now it’s over, wait never mind it’s not over but we can’t be together, now the obstacle keeping us apart is gone we can do this, but I have to respect his memory, wait never mind let’s do this. It’s not even exhausting, it’s just boring. This is all during season three! They finally hook up again after Elijah tells her he murdered Marcel and Hayley just doesn’t react. Who cares that the man who saved her as a baby and has done everything in his power to protect her and her daughter was killed by this man? Hayley needs to assuage Elijah’s man-pain. Then she has the audacity to demand Klaus forgive him, and when he addresses the irony she just ignores him. This is the moment it got through my head that Hayley was no longer a character, and was just a puppet for the writers, but tbh it happened way earlier than that. The season ends with the fate of the Mikaelson’s falling on Hayley. Does this mean Hayley gets her own storyline again in season four? You see where I’m getting with this.

We get the first episode’s A plot starring Hayley exclusively as she fights to save them, and it was actually pretty fun, especially when she went into wolf form to tear apart some vampires. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long as she reunites with Elijah immediately. Okay, so at this point Elijah is dead to me and Hayley has ceased to be a real character. Outcome, they’re together now and I couldn’t care less. I could say it’s infuriating that Hayley doesn’t care that Elijah contemplated killing a bunch of children no older than Hope or actually killed four innocent teenagers for the harvest ritual (she does bring them up with him, but it’s always in a scolding manner that doesn’t affect how she feels about him), but what he does to her in the necklace is what makes her believe he’s not safe to be around Hope. Okay. Not much outside of this, they end things again shortly after he returns from the dead (another cliche that y’all keep doing!) The finale has them separated by the hollow and Elijah’s amnesia. So how are they gonna bring this back for season five? It’s much worse than that.

So season five skips to seven years later, and they both appear to have moved on with respective partners. Declan is boring (more of a Matt clone than people keep insisting Cami was) and Antoinette is interesting but also problematic, not that either of these people matter. They’re only plot devices (another female character who doesn’t get to be a character? Nice one guys!) to put a wrench in Haylijah despite Elijah’s amnesia already doing the job just fine. Surprisingly their relationship isn’t relevant at all for a good few episodes (mostly due to Hayley being missing. And then, he kills her. You know what I’m talking about. X character being responsible for loved ones death while they don’t remember said loved one cliche. Remember when this ship wasn’t inherently toxic? Tbh it hasn’t been harmless in a while. So we get stoic Elijah, and the others trying so desperately to make him and to the extension me believe that him and Hayley were this unbreakable love story for the ages, when in reality their relationship was a hot-and-cold nightmare. Take notes, if you’re gonna do a slow burn, don’t get them together and break them up over and over again unless you’re planning to spice up the relationship in some way every time. Because I lost interest so early, and I don’t think I’m the only one. So once Elijah gets his memory back his story arc is over for the season and he spends the remainder moping around (we could have gotten an entire story between him and Hope instead of one episode and a scene in another). He almost doesn’t go to his own sister’s wedding cause he’s man-paining too hard. Finally, he decides last minute to undercut Klaus’ self sacrificing so they could die together (cause who needs actual growth between these two?). It is speculated that Elijah reunites with Hayley in the afterlife and they live happily ever after (I say speculated because we didn’t get to see their afterlife even though we saw Hayley and Josh’s?).

So what is there to learn from this? Elijah was an interesting character who’s arc inverted Klaus in a clever kind of way, but would not stop hanging on Hayley. And Hayley herself is yet another female in this show who’s agency and character is stripped away to service the man. The main problem with this couple is how repetitive and predictable their story became. Unlike kolvina their beginning had promise, but they never grew from there, they only shrank.

"This is going to be an amazing place, you know." You're standing in the doorway of the newly funded Salvatore Boarding Scool remembering all the memories it holds. Alaric turns around with a smile crossing the room to hug you tightly.

"I thought we agreed you wouldn't become a stranger when you moved." You can't help but chuckle. It's not exactly like you just moved a state over.

"I moved to another realm, Ric. It's a little harder than an hour's drive." A couple of students hurry outside laughing. It takes you back to your own high school days though you didn't have a place where you could practise magic openly and safely. You'd lost count of the number of times you'd had to use your magic to save everyone alongside Bonnie, how many times you'd grieved the loss of a loved one and the joy you felt when they made their way back to life.

"I thought I heard my favourite witch." Damon comes walking down the stairs and you must admit that humanity looks good on him. The biggest surprise is Elena not being next to him. When you left, they were quite literally joined by the hip.

"Don't let Bonnie catch you saying that," you chuckle but you're really just happy to see him. He took you in when your parents died and since then the Salvatore mansion had been your home. Back then you'd been his only redemption before he actually started being a good person. Elena had brought it out in him but you like to think you were the beginning of the development. He'd saved your life more than once.

"Don't worry. I tell her the same thing when you're not here." He ruffles up your hair making you feel like a little kid all over again. But this time you're a married adult with your own life and Damon knows that too.

"You look good," he says pulling you in for a hug.

"You too. Apparently, married life suits us both." You know Damon has been torn between wanting to hate Saul for stealing you away and appreciating the fact that he makes you very happy.

"Who would've thought?"

You return to the present realising that you've been standing under the running water long enough for it to turn cold. You use a little magic to quickly dry off your hair so you can be on time for class. You still have no idea how Saul managed to get you a job at Alfea when you're not even a fairy but it makes your marriage a lot easier. Neither of you likes being away from each other but working at Alfea has kept you from your family a lot. You love Saul but you miss Mystic Falls. It clouds your thoughts all through class and by the time you've finished, you're calling Damon to hear how everything is going.

"Hey," you say trying to keep your voice neutral.

"Hi stranger," he replies but you can tell he's busy judging by the sound of chatter in the background. That's when you remember it's family dinner night.

"I completely forgot. We'll talk later." You hang up before he has any time to respond. Your eyes sting but you refuse to cry. It's just tough being away from them all the time. You have more than enough here with Saul and Riven but you miss home.

"I know I'm not a mind fairy but the look on your face says more than enough. What's wrong?" Saul asks. He's just entered your shared bedroom and he looks ready to collapse after a long day.

"It's nothing. I just miss home." You wonder how big the twins have gotten by now and how Hope is doing. You hate to admit that as her godmother you haven't done a pretty good job at being there for her. You text constantly but it's not the same as seeing her. You had promised Klaus to take care of her before he sacrificed himself and then you moved to another realm.

"We could always go visit?" You lock eyes with him never having been more in love with him than right now. Saul has never visited Mystic Falls. Frankly, you'd been terrified to merge those two worlds but now you felt like you had to. You wanted him to know the people who had helped save you and been there as you grew into your own person.

"I'd love that."

"This looks pretty impressive." Saul is standing next to you by the gates of the Salvatore Boarding School looking in awe at the place. You know Alfea is a gorgeous place but it has nothing on the Salvatore mansion.

"Walk me through it again. Vampires, werewolves and witches all in one place?"

"Also, hybrids and tribrids which still doesn't really make sense to me but essentially that's the big three, yeah." You laugh a little as you watch the confusion cloud his face. You grew up here and you still struggled to understand all the stuff that happened.

"We're not staying here for long. Damon invited us over for dinner but I just wanted to stop by here." You keep a lookout for any familiar faces and much to your surprise you spot Hope locking lips with some curly-haired boy.

"Hope?" you exclaim. She is definitely not old enough to be dating and the sight makes you temporarily forget about Saul who's currently fighting the urge to draw out the dagger he always hides in his boot. The soldier in him is terrified of vampires and werewolves thinking of the horror stories he always heard as a child despite your reassurances that they were people the same as the fairies.

"Y/N?" Hope runs right into your arms not believing her own eyes.

"What are you doing here?" she asks excitedly. Seeing her makes you realise just how much you've missed this place. You introduce her to Saul who's trying to take everything in and relax a little. You don't blame him. Hearing about vampires and werewolves is very different from actually being around them. Some vampires still give you the creeps even now.

"Thank you for coming," you whisper as Hope leads the way to Alaric's office. She's talking so much she doesn't even notice you saying anything. It's nice seeing her so happy and confident in herself compared to seeing her back in New Orleans. This school had really helped her.

"Here we are," she says stopping in front of a set of doors with Ric's name on it.

"We're staying for a few days. How about you ditch school tomorrow and tell me all about that lover boy I caught you with outside." Hope is quick to agree before heading back outside. It's nice seeing her happy. You know Klaus would've enjoyed it too.

"You ready?" He nods his head and you open the door to see Ric and the twins. It's a happy reunion adding to the feeling of missing out on everything.

"If you miss it so much, I've got a job opening? You could come to teach every other week to make your schedule work." Could it work? Could you have the best of both worlds? You look over at Saul who looks just as surprised as you. It would take some work and planning but you needed this.

"Do you think we could make it work?" you ask Saul hoping he'll say yes. Hoping he'll support you.

"I think you gave up a lot for me by moving to Alfea so it would only be fair that we made this work. Of course, we can make it work." He's still freaked out by the number of supernatural people running around here but he has to admit that it's pretty impressive they all manage to co-exist. He's eager to learn more about them and the history behind their existence. It's also a huge plus that he gets to see you happy.

"I guess my answer is yes then."

How would you compare the ACOTAR ships to TVD ships? Some people say Feysand is like Delena.

This is SUCH A FUN ASK!! Don’t mind if I do! I’m going to compare the general dynamic of the characters as well as archetype/ story parallels.

This is a crossover post so SPOILERS FOR BOTH ACOTAR AND TVD BELOW.

Stefan-Elena-Damon = Tamlin-Feyre-Rhysand

I don’t mean to do Stefan dirty like this, but the parallels are really undeniable. Stefan and Tamlin both were the kind, caring, magical first introduction to this whole new world for Feyre/Elena. They fell in love with them easily and it was a pure, beautiful love but while they were in it there were darker (Damon and Rhys) forces pulling them in another direction. Both women loved these men SO fiercely and sacrificed for that love. Feyre fought the 3 trials with Amarantha where she ended up being helped by Rhys. Elena went looking for Stefan in his ripper days even though Klaus would kill her if he found her and she was helped by Damon. Both of them fought for this love but then once they had it back... either they or the man or both had changed too much from the trauma and their relationship simply couldn’t work anymore.

I totally agree with the Feysand= Delena point because I think they are both relationships that are very “this person over everyone else no matter what” and that is romantic, but at we see, can also be overbearing/toxic at times. They both do awful things that the heroine has to later learn their motives for and forgive them for. Damon “kills” Jeremy and tries to compel Elena to kiss him early on. He feeds Elena his blood against her will when Klaus might kill her but then he ultimately makes it right through self sacrificing hero acts. Rhys does... everything he did under the mountain and he doesn’t tell Feyre she’s his mate, but then he helps her heal after Tamlin and ultimately saves Prythian. Both characters are also haunted by an abusive relationship- Rhysand a sexually abusive relationship with Amarantha that he endured for 49 years and Damon and emotionally abusive/manipulative relationship with Katherine that defined his life for 150 years.

Damon has a quote in season 4 that I think really describes both couples. He says: “if you’re going to be bad, be bad with a purpose. Otherwise you just aren’t worth forgiving.”

Klaroline = Nessian

This one is more based on character interactions and a bit of my own bias. I struggled to find a TRUE nessian parallel couple but I think Klaroline is the closest for a number of reasons. Largely because Caroline and Nesta are very similar characters. Both start off as shallow, superficial mean girls who we get an early glimpse of their heart (Caroline crying and her I’m never the one monologue and Nesta being on Feyre’s side when she returns in ACOTAR) who then get changed into something they never wanted to be and it helps them grow and OWN THEIR P O W E R. Even Caroline’s stint as emotionless mess after her mom’s death parallels Nesta’s destructive actions after losing her father.

Cassian and Klaus both have the whole “I’m a worthless bastard that no one wants and I killed my father but I am STRONGER THAN EVERYONE so you can’t hurt me even though I’m really just a soft boi who needs love” vibe going on.

And the CHASE. That’s the biggest parallel here. These are both couples where this powerful man walked in and said “that one” re the beautiful woman who hated them and then did not give up. But with both of them it’s a gentle chase. Klaus knows that Caroline is constantly trying to trick him but he doesn’t care because he just wants to spend time with her and whenever she is in danger he is there on the DOUBLE and does things he doesn’t want to do for her (ex- graduation, hiding/ protecting Stefan in season 6). Cassian knows that Nesta is going through a hard time after ACOMAF and he flies up to the House of Wind every damn day to see her even when she pushes him away and he instantly goes into fierce general I will kill mode if anyone threatens Nesta. Also both couples are prone to lashing out at each other (Caroline “terrible people” line; Klaus with his biting. Cassian “everyone hates you”; Nesta with her well... being Nesta LOL)

Bonus points for pet names and relentless teasing when they aren’t trying to kill each other.

Quote for them is when Caroline tells Klaus “anyone capable of love, is capable of being saved” I think that also has big Cassian @ Nesta in ACOSF energy.

(PS I did consider Nessian being Steroline but 1. I fucking hate that ship and 2. Stefan was never there for Caroline during the hard times which is the anti Cassian AND I think the for me it’s always you vibe just fits the intensity of Nessian better)

Kennett = Elriel

I’m not tagging this Elriel so don’t COME FOR ME. In my opinion, these are both ships that had some fun ~tension~ and are kinda sexy/enticing. Kol with his love of witches and their little graduation ghost adventure and Azriel with his attraction to Elain and saving her from Hybern. BUT ultimately I think the most interesting thing about these ships was their convenience. I think fans liked to put Bonnie with Kol in fanfics because it was an easy way to make Bonnie understand Elena and Caroline’s choice for a dark boi and it was just convenient. Likewise I think that Elriel is convenient in writing to simply throw Elain with the other bat brother and tie everything up in a neat little ribbon.

Mabekah= Elucien

In this comparison Rebekah is Lucien and Matt is Elain. This was a couple where one person started off with bad motives (Rebekah wanting to kill Matt at the ball; Lucien plotting with Hybern) but they have genuine feelings for the person once they get to know/are mated to them and you see that person is a much more complicated character than we previously saw. Rebekah and Lucien are both lost, lonely, and struggling to find where they fit in while Matt and Elain are both struggling but ultimately the much beloved “sweet” character who everyone is willing to die to protect. At first the sweet character avoids the villain character like the plague, but eventually things turn around and they see past their previous bad actions.

BonEnzo= Gwynriel

Talk about characters who have some trauma to heal together. Enzo was literally kept in a cage by the Whitmore’s for 50 years and abused much like Azriel in his dungeon. Gwyn has had to make unspeakable decisions in order to protect the greater good and suffer the horrible consequences for it- losing her twin to protect those children much like how Bonnie lost her grams to protect Stefan and Elena. Enzo started off interested in Caroline (like Azriel and Elain) and getting over an obsession with Lilly (Azriel and Mor) but was ultimately drawn to Bonnie for her strength, determination, and good heart despite everything she had been through. These are really all just characters that have been through the RINGER and need to find healing in each other’s arms but would never admit that’s what they are doing so it just happens slowly and one day they realize things don’t hurt as much anymore.

AND FINALLY:

Damon and Caroline= Nesta and Tomas

You know why. Damon doesn’t get off that easy just because he “changed”. He abused Caroline and I won’t be pretending in 2021 that he didn’t.

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

82, although that's not even close to my actual total. There's a bunch on LJ that have never been transferred (all shorter works)

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

1,780,805 (over 2mil on LJ)

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Mostly three, plus a couple dips into a few other pools. X-Men Comic Book fandom, Buffy & Angel fandom (they kinda count as one since it's the same universe), and Supernatural & SPN RPF. Dips have included Dragon Age, Firefly, a tiny bit of TVD, a Sons of Anarchy crossover.

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

This is tough if I go by numbering. Homework Verse has the most kudos scattered across all parts, but Stranger Than Fiction has the most as a single story. Anyway...

Homework Verse (J2 RPF, 200k+ words) - My very first RPF fic, Supernatural or otherwise. Two of my online fandom friends basically TOLD me I was going to write Teacher/Student J2, and I kept protesting that I drew the line at RPF. They didn't care. 200k later, here we are. This story was a game changer for me; it made me fandom famous. I still love those boys with my whole heart, and they still talk to me sometimes.

Stranger Than Fiction (Sam/Dean, 50644 words) - This story idea took root immediately following the episode The Monster at the End of This Book. I quit the Big Bang I'd already begun writing for that year (which was Who Watches Over Me, which I finished and posted for BB the following year) to write this story. It just took hold hold of me and took over. I wrote it in 6 weeks and it was easily the most fun I ever had writing anything--I cackled like a madwoman most of the time.

Who Watches Over Me (J2 RPF, 96591 words) - This story was, at the time, the toughest thing I'd ever written. Little did I know that would become the norm and not the exception, as I began to write more complex stories. It was by far the longest story I had ever posted all at once in its entirety (rather than chapter by chapter) and I had no idea if people would like it. Fortunately a lot of people did.

Like Staring Into the Sun (Sam/Dean, 23243 words) - Ah, my very first hardcore Wincest fic. I remember writing the first chapter of the story (meant to be a one shot honestly), and just sitting there, at 5am, being terrified to post it. It was twisted, dark and intense and SO porny I was scared people might think I was weird. There wasn't anything like it out there at the time. As it turns out, people loved it so much I ended up writing eight more parts.

Like a Fish Out of Water (Sam/Dean, 59498 words) - I have a lot of love for this story. It didn't come to me easily, but it was fun to write. I remember smiling a lot and just having a nice, warm cozy feeling the whole time. I had no idea if anyone was interested in reading this many words of what amounted to a dramedy curtain fic

Of course there are other stories that I feel deserve love, but I can't argue with these.

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I do. And by that, I mean I try. I don't always succeed in answering them all, but I answer as many as I have time and energy for. Life is busy and there is writing to do as well. I read every comment I get (multiple times) and I feel guilty for all the ones I don't answer, because they mean SO MUCH TO ME. Like you took time to leave this beautiful, well thought out comment, or even a keysmash, or a heart, in response to something I wrote. That means the world.

I WISH there was a reaction function for comments on Ao3, so I could heart things, or laugh in response. Replying with emojis without words feels weird. So yeah, a reaction function would be amazing. But in the meantime, I do my best.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hmm. Probably A Touch of Evil. Interestingly, it's also a HAPPY ending, so there you go lol. It's a serial killer love story with a happy ending that comes at an exorbitant price.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I'm not sure why the OG post skips from 6 to 8 lol . So, yes, I have written a few minors crossovers. Mostly Faith in the SPN verse with the boys, nothing too crazy, because she fits right in. But for long stories, I have written all of ONE crossover. It's Dean Winchester/Jax Teller (SPN / Sons of Anarchy). My crossovers so far have tended to make sense to crossover, so I don't think any of them are crazy.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes. I got some hate on a Buffy/Xander fic back in the day. I got really excited and had fun with it. Like yeah, now I'm SOMEBODY! You're no one til someone hates you lol Most of that was people who were haters of the ship, or were like, gross, they're like brother and sister (they weren't, they were FRIENDS). I've gotten nasty comments here and there on some of my SPN fic. My favorite was the person who accused me of having a "Top Dean Agenda". I STILL laugh about that one. I don't respond to that crap.

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Have you MET ME? LOL If I ever post a story without smut just put me out to pasture, because I'm done. And all kinds. Het, Gay, PWP, Plotty porn, mostly super kinky but some vanilla (but intense). I used to challenge myself regularly to see if I could up my kink game--like hmm, but could I write THIS? I haven't written really kinky sex in a long time, though. Might be time to do that.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Several times. Who Watches Over me was stolen by someone and converted to One Direction Lourry fic. Literally just did a name change. Someone else stole a bunch of my one shots and passed them off as their own. I know there were a couple other instances but I only vaguely remember. I never got too deep into it, most of the time the people who discovered the theft already told everyone else too, and the plagiarist had been hammered by them so hard that I didn't have to step in before they took it down.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes. I used to get requests so often that I just posted my usual response in my profile for people to read instead of replying. Definitely into Russian and Chinese for most of the stories listed with most kudos above.

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A few times on one shot fics. SO MUCH FUN. I love co-writing with people.

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

Sam/Dean. Easily. Hands down. I just love their unique relationship, bond and love so much.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Well I finally finished A Touch of Evil after posting 3 chapters in 2009 and never touching it again until 2017. And I never thought I'd finish that. So never say never, I say. That said, there's the third and final part of my X-Men comic book epic that remains unfinished by about five (shorter) chapters, and it HAUNTS ME. But I don't think I'll ever finish it.

16) What are your writing strengths?

NOW we get to the hard questions. I'm really good at dialogue, bouncing banter back and forth between characters, and I have a sense for how long a scene should be. I just KNOW when it's going on too long, even if there's more that needs to be said, and I try to tighten it up in that case.

A friend of mine once told me "Porn is my gift". I don't write as much of it as I used to, but yeah, I shine in that area.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

So I always reach a point after writing so many words in an unpublished fic where I'm like, I have no idea if this is even any good/makes sense/hangs together etc. Beyond that, I've been writing for so long that I've had so much practice that I've strengthened a lot of my weaknesses. I'm sure I still have some, but I don't FEEL them like I used to anymore. That said, there are things I simply will not write. Like historical pieces. Because I would research the fuck out of every detail trying to get it perfect and then I would still doubt myself completely.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I mostly try to avoid it, because there's no way I would ever get the language correct. I usually write it in English and then explain that they're saying it in another language. Like, "What are you doing?" the man asks, speaking in Chinese. Then reiterate in the continuing dialogue in various ways that they're speaking in Chinese.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

X-Men Comic Book fandom. I was reading a lot of Remy/Rogue fic back in 1996-1997, and one day I was like, you know what? This person did a pretty good job on this story. It's not great, but it's pretty good, and if they can have the guts to put it out there, then I can do it, too.

20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

This is a tough question. I don't love all my children equally, but I love them all a lot in different ways lol

Remembering favorite is different than which one I think is BEST... Homework Verse is probably my favorite. I was learning so much about writing then, I was really growing, and discovering, and pushing my limits. Those characters lived and breathed in me, I swear they spoke through me from some alternate universe. They feel so REAL to me. There's so much of what I've learned in life in that story, like really, big, life changing ideas and understandings that happened to me that I put into that story. There's so much of me in that story, and yet there's so much of THEM, too. It's their story, but it's also mine. It's raw and not entirely perfect and it feels like home to me.

So I've been reading a lot of (read: all) of @ zalrb 's metas on TVD and relationships (not tagging her bc I know she doesn't care about twilight but if you like TVD check out her meta master list!!!) and it gave me the epiphany that twilight would have been so much more romantically poignant if only Edward had the frenzied feeding issue. (Adding a cut because I rambled a lot more than I meant to lol)

A few people have brought up before that the new moon party scene would have served the story better (in every way) if Edward had been the one to attack bella, not jasper, and I fully agree. It could still make sense if Jasper had some control issues (insofar as jaspers character being there makes any sense at all lol) but Edward fully should have been the one to attack Bella. It would make Bella’s nightmares, her trauma, and the moment she decides to save him anyway all the more impactful if she had actually seen Edward lose his shit at her scent. 

And as others have brought up, the dilemma in Eclipse would have been more impactful as well. Bree Tanner’s chapter would have actually had the effect on Bella that smeyer tried to feign. Bella would have more difficulty choosing vampirism for herself if she had seen her beloved Edward at his absolute darkest (rather than just hearing him tell her about his past killing sprees). 

As for what this would change for the other vampires, I don’t think it would really alter much. Carlisle could still have superior never-tasted-human-blood control, the others’ nonchalance at their past slip-ups would make even more sense because like, why feel bad about feeding from humans if none of them actually died. IMO it only really makes sense for Jasper, Alice, and Carlisle to not care much for human life: Jasper and Carlisle because they have been vampires for so long and Alice because she was “born” with no ties to her own humanity. (But obv bc of who Carlisle is as a character, he does still care for humanity.) 

Smeyer tells us repeatedly that her vampires are stuck in the mind they were turned with yet this is only really apparent in Carlisle and Rosalie. Both value human life greatly but in Rosalie’s case the circumstances of her turning enabled her to make the exception for the men (and two hired guards of the men) who raped and attempted to murder her. From what I remember, smeyer mostly emphasizes the hunger that comes with the transformation. Hunger alone is not enough to make a former human completely forgo their humanity- these people should be a lot more torn up about killing so many people especially “younger” vampires like Esme and Emmett, but both are canonically fine with it. 

Now, if vampires didn’t have to kill to feed, it’s a lot more understandable and furthermore makes the Cullens more likeable. She wants us to see them as caring but then tells us that they’ve all killed before for a meal and Carlisle literally had to force them to empathize with their victims. But if Edward is the only one that can’t feed without going into a frenzy, it makes a lot more sense. Esme and Emmett don’t really understand his position because it’s easy for them to feed from humans sometimes and then hop right off the bandwagon- no murder, no guilt. Rosalie doesn’t understand his hunger, Alice and Jasper don’t care much about human life at all, and Carlisle was perfectly controlled from the beginning. Now Edward’s angst also makes more sense, it isn’t just that he’s been surrounded by “perfect” couples, he’s surrounded by people who are far less monstrous than he even though all of them are vampires. 

Getting back to how this wouldn’t really change the worldbuilding either: the Volturi would still need to exist because presumably there would be more vampires like Edward who couldn’t help themselves, and other vampires who were sloppy about their feeding habits. (Okay I will admit that in a world where vampires don’t have to kill to feed, the Volturi don’t necessarily need to protect humanity as much but I do think the need would still be there because if vampires were discovered, it could still lead to a devastating war between the two groups with humans obviously at a disadvantage.) It would also make more sense as to why so many vampires are almost offended by the Cullen “diet.” As I mentioned, smeyer doesn’t say that her vampires can’t see humans as people or that turning into a vampire automatically makes you view humans as only a food source. A lot more vampires should be struggling with the need to kill humans in her world, especially when they are first turned, but from what I recall, they don’t. Even Bella doesn’t care that much at first when she is about to kill a random hiker but it should gut her (especially if she is as “good” as the narrative wants us to believe) that she wanted to kill a human. It should haunt her. 

But if vampires could feed without killing, obviously they wouldn’t give a damn about Carlisle’s diet. They would be hard pressed to try it. It would also make more sense to start seeing humans as meals nearly instantly because there wouldn’t be any internal turmoil. I could even see someone like Bella seeing vampirism as a step up ethically to humanity because when humans want meat, they have to kill. Vampires just have to take a little sip. Anyway that was a long winded way of saying: I think it would serve the story better if vampires didn’t have to kill to feed and I think it would fit well into the world smeyer built.

Now to return to Edward: if he is the only vampire Bella meets that genuinely struggles with feeding, that is haunted by the people he’s killed in the past, everything about his character and the “poignancy” of his love for Bella that smeyer tried to sell us fits into place a lot better. Bella could be the first human that truly sees Edward for all of what he is- especially after he attacks her- and still forgives and accepts and loves him regardless. This is one of the things that TVD did well with Stefan and Elena and why I believe them as a love story over Edward and Bella. In twilight canon, Edward overcomes his vampirism for Bella but he already had pretty good control until Bella “threatened” it (I put that in quotes because after Twilight, it isn’t portrayed as a big issue anymore) and other vampires are all overcoming the same shit, big whoop. Carlisle did the same exact thing for Esme, why would I believe that Edward and Bella are so much more in love? 

But if it was a unique struggle for Edward, I understand. If it was expressly Edward’s relationship with Bella that helped him overcome his self loathing and doubt, if she refused to see him as a monster after he actually showed her how monstrous he could really be, then I get it. As twilight is now, I have to roll my eyes when they say no one has ever loved anyone the same way because Carlisle/Esme and Rosalie/Emmett had the same obstacles in their way (albeit for a shorter period of time) and all have these same cravings as Edward with the same consequences as Edward and none of them are as torn up about it. Smeyer actually made Edward “better” at controlling his urges than most of his family because she didn’t see that for someone to be “tortured” in the way Edward is, they would need unique consequences, they would need a unique struggle that validated that emotionality Edward displays through all four books. It’s laughable when Edward calls himself a monster because, dude, everyone else is in the same boat and they’re fine! Grow up! You have to give him the context that would make that angst understandable and twilight just doesn’t do that.

I'm a bit confused about what was Hope doing in last night's episode. Was her humanity slowly coming back cause of what Lizzie said and she's resisting it or was she just faking it to lure her victim?

i think her humanity was trying to come back and she was resisting it for a couple reasons........ one, there is no real reason for her to do that to a stranger, she could easily just lure them in in other ways, but to go on this whole tangent about humanity and etc its a lil off.... it also parallels the (many, maaaaaany) scenes in tvd where d@mon was struggling and practically did the same goddamn thing😭 u can see in the last couple of episodes how hope was getting into the familiarity of things and she didnt expect it all to affect her. bc like lets look at this timeline:

hope turns off her humanity and goes away > every time shes been around the super squad and etc shes been kept at arms length, she hasnt 1) gotten close enough for any of it to matter, 2) hasnt even been affected slightly by any of their attempts, 3) none of the hope relationships on the show are as developed as hope's dynamic with landon, lizzie or (barf) al*ric. and those are the THREE characters who she hasn't seen since turning her humanity off. > lizzie and hopes reunion was super prolonged, which meant that (as we seen) something big was going to happen, AND IT DID! > now lizzie has cracked hope's no humanity shell, hope is going back to the salvatore school where al*ric will be, and 1) he will have news about landon, 2) he will be concerned about lizzie (hopefully Lol), 3) hes him and ion have to explain how hope feels abt that unfortunately saurrr.....

i think this was rly well thought out honestly like it makes sense and we have seen things like this happen before and danielle is just .... perfect at acting cos sm ppl were like confused or shook by it and that just goes to show how good she is at her job UGH lil icon!!! my baby literally.... but anyways yeah PERSONALLY i think this is the correct timeline and etc and so far all of the ppl saying its not are uhhhh........ Biased ........ so i cant really tell u i think theyre thinking this through and mean it 😭
