that’s not to say fusebox probably isn’t responsible. idk i haven’t played because school has all consumed me (and i finally have a decent idea for where i want my career to go). fusebox is HORRID with writing non-white characters. but everyone demonizing gabi is continuing to reinforce a stereotype about asian women, specifically east asian (because gabi is ea. if not, my point still stands). it’s just a continuation of the dragon lady stereotype, just without the ability to murder.

on top of that, it fuels white woman victimhood. with romance, it’s always framed as asian women “stealing” white women’s partners. asian women are invaders, foreigners, obstacles.

like yes. is it shitty for mc? sure. but there are plenty of white characters who have done similar things and the fandom loves them. (cough lottie for example cough)

the casual fan

plays the seasons once or twice. doesn't go on reddit, tumblr, twitter, etc. has no idea there's a whole ass community thirsting after these pixels.

the super fan (the crazy stan)

knows at least one season like the back of their hand. can correct you on any and all lottie quotes. has started using slang words such as 'grafting', 'ding', ' pang' and 'gossip sneezer' in every day life. was or still is a bobby mckenzie stan.

the bobby hater

literally just lives to hate bobby, a pixelated man. has email alerts to vote for him as least favorite character for the subreddit. if you asked them how they're doing, they would would reply: "terrible, because bobby fucking mckenzie exists." their friends and family even know how much they hate him. they have no idea who bobby is.

the blogger

knows everything about every character. everyone knows what they say is canon even if fusebox does not confirm it. all their headcanons are a work of art and should be framed in a litg museum (do we have one of those? we should). has one favorite character that they worship. whenever there's a post about said blogger's favorite LI, people wait to see what they say about it.

the anonymous hater

troll. someone who didn't get enough hugs as a kid. hates on everyone for no reason other than to hear themselves talk and feel important. might honestly be blake undercover, still salty she didn't get to stay in the villa.

the anonymous lover

someone who sends sweet mail after the hater tries to wreck things like a hurricane. a real life king/queen. also canonically gorgeous in real life.

the fic writer

angels. literally the most amazing people because they bring the characters to life. they also fix the ooc moments in the game. can confirm, all really really good looking and charming. lucas koh would worship them.

I don’t think I can handle some of this fandom during this season. It literally just started and I’m so sick of everyone complaining and complaining and insulting characters.

Someone on Reddit said Suresh is “relentlessly harassing” MC lmao like girl.. what.

We talked to him like.. 4 times. If you take that as harassing then literally everyone in the villa is harassing you bc they’re all up your ass, all the time.

I’m truly sorry if people don’t like the story right now, especially when it triggers some past trauma or something like that. But if it makes you so uncomfortable then you just gotta decide to put the game down/delete it instead of just keep playing it so you can complain about how shit and triggering everything is.

Like.. you’re purposefully triggering yourself to complain that fusebox is making a story that triggers you? What?

I know it’s already been said multiple times that the PoC characters always get shit from everyone but man.. I didn’t expect it to be this bad (this is my first time actively following tumblr and Reddit during a season!)

i think your feelings are 110% valid and i honestly agree with you. this is also my first season i've actively followed from the beginning and i had no idea what i was getting myself into, lol.

i totally understand people not loving the season. obviously people have been frustrated with fusebox for some time now (especially after learning what was going on behind the scenes) but i think the fact that we have new content at all is nice! they didn't have to give us anything (and with the way people were attacking them on social media, i wouldn't have been shocked if they stopped delivering content completely).

but yeah, i did make a post about this maybe last week but i think people are taking the suresh hate too far. the things people have been saying are really alarming, especially when we take into consideration the fact that he's a POC and he, Dana, and even Alfie are getting it the worst out of all of the characters. then again, from what i've seen, this is normal behavior for the fandom which is really gross.

i do also agree that if someone were to find the content of the episodes thus far triggering, it would probably be wise to stop reading. i'm sympathetic to others' trauma, but there also comes a time when personal responsibility comes into play and this would be an instance of that. like, i know the show 13 reasons why would be triggering for me, so i didn't watch it and risk triggering myself. ya know? you just have to take a step back sometimes.

I'm sorry that you guys are having a hard time. I am. Even I stopped playing this season because of how triggering it was for me. But don't forget that there are so many creative people here, who can rewrite this season or do little fanfics that are better written. Even I been rewriting some scenes so that I can give my MC the justice she deserves. And you, yourselves can even write and/or draw a little something for yourself, so that you can vindicate your MC because FB sure isn't going to do it.

How does one get into the fandom because idk where to start (I've never wanted to be active in fandom before so I am throwing this at someone who seems like they know what to do)

Firstly WELCOME!!!! If you’re here and you’ve decided to join the fandom, then I hereby declare that you are now part of the fandom!!!! YAYYY welcome to the fam!!

You don’t have to have played all the seasons, you don’t need to know all the characters. You don’t have to be across all the jokes or memes. We have people who’ve been here since the beginning of S1, we have people who joined yesterday and have no idea what’s going on but are straight up having a great time. If you have questions, or you don’t get a meme or post, ask!!!! This fandom are used to newbies and will happily explain it to you. The only thing you have to do is stay away from the reddit sub (no I’m totally kidding but that really is wise- it gets quite nasty over there)

Here are some ways to get involved: (excuse formatting I’m doing this one handed at 4am, stupid baby)

1: just start reblogging shit. If you’re new to tumblr, it can be a bit overwhelming to start but just start reblogging anything you find funny or interesting. If you feel comfortable you can start throwing in your own thoughts, like replying to posts or adding info/tags when you reblog

2. Make memes/ your own posts and tag them #litg or #love island the game or any of the LITG tags you’ve seen around. Many of us follow the tag and this is a great way to find new blogs. If you go through this tag you’ll also be able to find some great and popular LITG blogs this way. Fortunately the Venn diagram of people who have popular LITG blogs and people who are amazing kind humans is a circle so you’re in safe hands here.

3. Have you thought about joining the discord? Caitkaminski has a link in her navigation post here. It can be a bit overwhelming to start, but if you mute all the channels except the ones you want to take part in it’s a great place to start chatting about the game

4. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s certainly mine- fanfiction . It’s insane how many talented writers we have in this fandom, like it’s actually nuts. Idk how we managed to attract so many but we did so it’s REALLY worth checking out. You can start in the Love Island tag on AO3 and filter by your preference, or even check out the @litgreadersroom if you’re trying to find a recommendations list for a character (they’re working their way through a lot st the moment!). You can leave a comment, kudos, or even try your hand at writing your own, it’s a great way to get to know the characters more and also to start making friends with the fab writers!
