I wasn't supposed to see the new Little Mermaid movie. 😵‍💫
Now I can't stop imagining Din as Erik dancing on the ship celebrating his birthday, while Cobb as Ariel spying on him with charm and a smile on his lips. 🥰

THE LITTLE MERMAID (2023) REVIEW
Tumblr media
Disney's recent trend of remaking their classic animated movies in live-action blockbusters has produced a fair share of hits and some hard misses. While box office-wise remakes like "The Lion King", "Beauty and the Beast", and "Aladdin" have been wild successes, the actual quality of each reimagining never comes close to matching or being worthy of its original. Does the 2023 live action remake succeed where others missed the mark?
Tumblr media
Directed by Gary Marshall, this live-action reimagining has newcomer Halle Bailey in the titular role as Ariel, a mermaid obsessed with the above-water world. After witnessing a shipwreck and saving a land prince named Eric, played by Jonah Huer-King, Ariel makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula, played by Melissa McCarthy, to get a chance to live in the human world.
Disney's live-action remakes rely heavily on nostalgia for the animated originals to fill in the blanks when their reimaginings miss the mark. Having never seen the original "Little Mermaid" before seeing the remake, the 2023 version is magical and charming on its own. All the major plays perform well in their respective roles, especially Haile Bailey and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the crab. The musical numbers are full of energy and bright visuals to dazzle the eye and ears.
Tumblr media
After watching the remake, I decided to watch the original, which opened my eyes to just how similar the two are. The plot beats, jokes, and direct lines are reused throughout, which can be interpreted as a negative or simply what to expect with a remake. Surprisingly, after watching the two versions, the remake remains the superior version and I would return to watching it over the original.
Tumblr media
The biggest problem that "Little Mermaid (2023)" suffers from is a long runtime that's 2 hours and 15-minute runtime feels dragged at points. Especially in the second half after Ariel goes on land, there are plenty of scenes that can be trimmed down that would help with pacing and still get the same message across.
In a sea (pun intended) of retellings of Disney's catalog, "The Little Mermaid" stands (pun intended) above the rest. There is plenty of heart and energy that other remakes lack to carry over. While nostalgic fans of the original might be unimpressed by the obsessive amount of carried-over lines and plot beats, there are still plenty more new additions and performances to enjoy
8.5/10

I tried to study Shinichi Sakamoto's coloring. It is incredibly smooth and seemless and difficult. I couldn't manage it. And Charles' canonical skin tone in Innocent is purple. In illustrations when he isn't lavender or lilac, he got a white rose complexion. Me thinks Charles simply has very light skin without freckles, and sometimes, extremely pale complexions can have a purplish undertone. He has slightly color-changing eyes, ranging from blue, to grey to lilac, and a wide variety of shades in between.
So, for Innocent, feel free to give your OCs weird eye colors, since if Charles can be purple, nothing really matters. This is also why I think his artstyle would lend very well to the mermaid core aesthetic, since his covers show characters with pearly, very oddly colored complexions. Jean-Baptiste is grey, Charles is light purple, Marie-Josèphe is a cutaneous albino and Marie-Antoinette has a peachy complexion that is very normal compaired to the rest. Damien has a somewhat normal complexion but a playdough hair color.
A white rose complexion and deep blue eyes as the Little Mermaid is described in Andersen's fairy tale is very hard to harmonize, and the only thing I think make it work is dark khaki hair. In real life, it's quite the unusual combination of very light skin with yellowish-greenish undertones and blue eyes. I chose silvery for her tail color, but I think most cool colors would work. Greens are the safest bet here since it's compatible with both blue and the off-white, I found, for more cartoony styles. I had another mermaid with light green, almost sea-foam frosty mint kind of green, and it worked quite well with her eye color and complexion. My chosen aesthetic for my illustration was duller and more nautical. However, for a more realistic style based on how colors look in real-life on people, the hair should be ashy brown, hazel, dark caramel, chestnut, or ebony black hair, although lighter blonds could do. Off-white with a white rose tone are easy to harmonize with lighter cooler purples, greys, cool pinks, cool dusty pinks, beiges, browns and green. Mermaid core feature a lot of pastels and iridescents, but...it can also have a lot of mate macrome, so our little mermaid can wear macrome and duller seashells, with some discreet pearl jewlery.
For her human form, I would go for a cooler color palette, since it worked best. Crisp whites, deep reds and deep blues. However, for a more realistic style with life-like skin colorings, I would go more towards the purples for her human outfits.
For Charles' skin color, he's just pale and Sakamoto is an edgelord so he draws him purple. Your descriptions though??? I laughed😭 your irony is amazing.
I know next to nothing about color theory since I don't color my drawings, but if it looks fine, you can change anything about the source material. I mean, Andersen's little marmaid is a pale girl since she lives underwater, but Disney chose a dark skinned actress (prob for controversy marketing...), and she doesn't look out of place. I imagine Andersen's mermaid as having a pale, grey, almost transparent skin like some deep water fish. I think it would be sick if her skin was transparent and we could see her organs. Like. It would be cool as hell. I'd love to see the end result of your art.

So according to the new, The Little Marmaid leaving your old life behind for an adventure and for love and wanting those is bad but choosing a guy who is absolutely incapable of doing anything when it’s needed is awesome...
Why anyone would want to be with a guy who is emasculated and you cannot lean on him when it’s needed? When does teamwork in a relationship become something undesirable?
Disney just should stop messing with and ruining real classics…  for their own sake too, because this movie won’t be profitable, if it will be even they should be happy. ( don’t let the headlines fool you, I could write a full box office analysis on this why this movie is only a mediocre success financially. )

You are My Fish
You are my fish by RosemaryRia
„Just... don't freak out. Don't run away before I can explain everything. And don't... never tell anyone about this. Can you do that?“ Katsuki sighed and when Eijiro nodded, he motioned him to come closer. „Spill. Or I am not calling an ambulance but a psych ward.“ Katsuki rolled his eyes at Eijiro's comment. „After you see, I will be calling the psych ward for you, trust me.“ The blond mumbled and put his strong arms at the edge of the pool.

Todd was a kindergarten teacher and at the same time he wrote books for children, but he have never read in front of the class before. Some day a teacher ask him to take care of her class while she was doing some paperwork in the principle’s office and he agreed, of course “You can read them one of your books! They love books, right children?” “YES!”
The children were there, sitting in their chairs, waiting, staring, with big smiles. Todd was sweating. His impostor syndrome was taking over.
“You’re the author of The Little Marmaid?”, a girl asked.
“No, I’m not”.
“But you are an author, right? Mrs. Kim told us”, said a boy.
“Yes, yes I am” he replied as he approached the shelf to choose one of the books.
“Are you famous?, asked a girl with glasses.
Todd giggled.
“I think I’m not. What about this one? It’s called The puck and the poet”.
“YES!”, they exclaimed in unison in agreement.
And then he started reading, trying to imitate the amazing ability of the narrator of his audiobooks, his husband Neil Perry. He even try to do voices and the kids laughed in joy.
When Mrs. Kim came back, the kids asked her to invited Todd soon again. They were very pleased. Todd promised to come back and to go visit the library together, the children immediately agreed.
Back at home, during dinner, he shared this experience with Neil.
“I knew you could do it, hon! I’m proud of you” and he kissed him. “Maybe we can narrate the next book together, or... OH I’VE A BETTER IDEA, we can release a new edition of The puck and the poet and YOU can be the poet”, he winked.
“Okay, okay, I’ll think about it”.
“YES!”, Neil exclaimed with excitement and kissed him again. “I’m proud, I really am”.
And that was the day in which the poet was brave enough to defeat his impostor syndrome.

I just listened to the reprise of part of your world, from the little marmaid's live action and thought it would be soo funny if Gabriel, as he thought he was going to hell to Belzebub, would start singing it. Like he would be "SOMEDAY I'LL BEEEEE, PART OF YOUR WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD" and then cut to the demons, angels and Belzebub who would all be like "WTF??? "
