There are different kinds of Uno players :) Liu: Forgets to say Uno. Nicolas: Collects all the 2+ to use at once. Fei: Makes a step-by-step plan to win the game. Naidan: Actually knows the "real" rules.
In the 4 idiots group: Kaneda is like Fei. Okubo, the one with other rules from the rest. Lihito, the unlucky player who gets to draw a lot of cards. Himuro, the one who says that you should be able to put black on black but then complains when he gets more than one 4+.

Through Reading, Dongguan Builds Bridges Connecting the World
Global Relay of 23 Cities Celebrates, "Fragrance of Books Dongguan · World Walk and Read+" Public Reading Festival Unfolds
Dongguan, April 23, 2024 — Today marks the 29th "World Book Day" and coincides with the National Public Library Service Promotion Week. The grand opening of the "Fragrance of Books Dongguan · World Walk and Read+" public reading festival was held at the 423-meter tall Min Ying·Guo Mao Center in Dongguan. This event, jointly hosted by the Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department, the Municipal Culture, Radio, Film, Tourism and Sports Bureau, the Dongguan "Hundreds, Thousands, Millions Project" Command Office, and the Dongcheng Sub-district Office, simultaneously kicked off over 500 activities related to World Book Day, aiming to create an atmosphere of "universal sharing, full coverage, industry integration, and multi-media broadcasting."
Tumblr media
This reading festival, themed "Fragrance of Books Dongguan · World Walk and Read+," uniquely featured the "4·23 City Reading Relay." This innovative "Advocacy + Walk and Read" format issued a heartfelt invitation to read to cities worldwide under the name of Dongguan. Special guests including Dongguan’s overseas Chinese, students studying abroad, employees of Dongguan-based enterprises overseas, and representatives from sister cities and partner cities, collaborated with partners from 23 cities around the globe to engage in synchronized reading activities, pushing the "Fragrance of Books Dongguan" brand onto a broader international stage.
Internationally, friendly cities like Baesa in Spain, Paksé in Laos, and Holon in Israel actively participated. By using reading as a common language, these cities bridged geographical and cultural divides, radiating positive energy through reading. Furthermore, cities such as Tumxuk in Xinjiang and Tongren in Guizhou, which Dongguan supports, also joined, showcasing Dongguan’s open and inclusive city image to the nation and the world.
Several renowned personalities with deep ties to Dongguan also participated in the event. Among them, Lun Zhiqing, a descendant of the famous book collector Lun Ming, issued a reading call from Beijing. Zhao Heng, daughter of the famed translator Yang Yi and contributor to "Easy Read," shared her connection with the bookish charm of Dongguan city. Chen Bei’er, a popular TV host from Hong Kong's TVB, energetically promoted the "Fragrance of Books Dongguan" brand. Chen Jiayi, a young violinist and representative of overseas students who won the 10th China Music Golden Bell Awards, played a beautiful melody on her violin in Austria, echoing the elegant chapter of "Fragrance of Books Dongguan." Other overseas Chinese such as Lee Yuh Ping, founding chairman of the Chinese Librarians Association Asia-Pacific Branch in Singapore, and Zhong Yayi in Fiji, supported and promoted the "Fragrance of Books Dongguan" brand through their actions and words. Employees of Kuaiyi Elevator in Dubai showcased the strength and cultural charm of Dongguan manufacturing through their reading and sharing activities.
Distinguished guests such as Wang Weihua, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Songshan Lake Materials Lab, and Zhao Gansen, a National May 1st Labor Medalist and well-known professor at South China Normal University's School of Computer Science, among others, cheered on the "World Book Day" event series. The launch ceremony was graced by Wang Yuguang, professor and doctoral supervisor from the Department of Information Management at Peking University, and Liu Zhimeng, a European Academy of Natural Sciences academician and professor at Dongguan University of Technology, who shared their reading insights with attendees, affirming the efforts of Dongguan in recent years in building the "Fragrance of Books Dongguan" brand.
Through such events, Dongguan not only demonstrates its cultural openness and inclusiveness to the world but also communicates the positive message of promoting cultural exchange and knowledge sharing through reading. Dongguan’s efforts and achievements undoubtedly set a new standard for global cultural exchange, showcasing the city’s growing significance on the global cultural map.

dream 1: was hanging out with various people l in some kind of restaurant or bar but we killed the vibe. or we causedtoo much problems? idk I ended up feeling self conscious. I was with a friend, fei wangfang, & liu dongcheng on the way home. it was snowing. fei walked the fastest but we were chatting & being goofy & silly. then i had to use elemental sight to see how long their dicks were????? they looked like flesh carrots including those weird hairs that carrots get sometimes & I was like ok that's not right. fei was packing even though it was shaped like a carrot. then I woke up bc of thumping on the ceiling. it was nighttime in a big city and it was snowing.
draam 2: reading a book that I'd read before, except I skipped the first chunk bc I wanted to get to the fun part. of course then everything changed. i flying in space school or smth with my best friend who had been made up specifically for thos dream + 1 blond giel that got motion sick and started throwing up & another girl who looked like an actress whose name is escaping me. the one from "the spy that dumped me" or whatever. mia? something?? anyway we were doing a test flight (I was some kind of space flight prodigy, or at least really good), but I wasn't good enough to save us from ???. I think it was a planet being destroyed behind us or something??? I don't know. it knocked out the people I the backseat & also me. the only person who stayed conscious was my best friend in the whole world (his name was Vikram bc the book I had started reading in the dream was Insignia) & he sustained heavy injuries. the lady speaking to us over the console that was supposed to be our test proctor was some cross between akiyama kaede & riza Hawkeye. she could remember the coordinates of any ave she'd ever been to. our half wrecked ship was going to dock on our space station or planet or wherever we were going, but vik was probably going to die bc our medical facilities weren't enough, so our proctor directed him to the coordinates of a super secret military base planet thing & they were kind and took care of him.
we woke up in the school hospital. I asked theady over and over again, "where'd vik?" and she looked at us. and said he's alive. don't look for him. as "Tom" (but quickly becoming myself again) I still had the ability to like...throw my consciousness like a ghost, so I went to go check on him. vik was not disciplined enough for their military school. and they would not ever him leave since this place was top secret. unless..,........
there were exit gates that would wipe your mind of your past life. it was said the gates would make you forget you were here so you could leave. I knew the truth bc as a ghost consciousness I just knew things, but he believed them. and my best friend (from the dream universe) walked through those gates & forgot me. it took him a while. he felt my memory vanishing from his mind so he screamed and screamed my name (my actual name not Tom from the dream) and then started crying uncontrollably but then he ended up sitting at a table next to other rejects from my school who had accidentally wandered into the restricted territory.
anyway after that Vik remembered that we loved pranks and problems & started causing trouble bc there was some kind of invisibility thing going on?7 didn't totally understand it.
dream 3: I was in the town house again but had to share my room with both folden and Nick. folden had like purple crayon outlines on her & all her belongings for some reason. she was moving out & was like I hope I can see you again next time! & I didn't say anything. then I went downstairs to the dentists office which was in my mom's bathroom and the dentist was some lady with glasses and a smug look. she asked if I had any concerns, I said one of my teeth got really cold all the time, & then she started jamming metal needles in my teeth & was like"ok yep you have two cavities. we'll need to use non local bone for this one." I was like "what does that mean" & she was nonchalantly like "we need to take the bone and nerve endings from your nineteenth vertebrae" & I was like WHY & then my dad showed up as she waslike "don't worry about it bye" so I told my dad about my spine surgery cavities & he looked alittle disappointed but patted my head and told me he'd pay for it. & I was like "dad why do I need spine surgery" & he was like "I've never heard of this procedure but if the dentist said so it must be true." & I was like "I haven't even seen this dentist before at our usual place" & he was like hm. maybe.

Mansion Feast Restaurant, Beijing
Beijing-based interior design practice LDH Design has completed Mansion Feast – a 1,230-square-meter restaurant that specializes in Chinese aristocratic cuisine.
Tucked away near a temple in Beijing’s old town, in a hutong in Dongcheng District, the restaurant is set within a renovated, thirty-year-old, traditional, Beijing style, quadrangular, courtyard compound residence known as a siheyuan. Formerly a cultural venue called the Jinyang Hanlin Academy, the compound was transformed into an elegant dining destination that evokes the ceremonial splendor of Chinese imperial residences.
The establishment’s private, indoor dining rooms are available for private gatherings, while its central courtyard is open to the public for afternoon tea and dinner. If a guest books the entire Mansion, they can use the courtyards for musical performances, cocktail parties, exhibitions, press conferences or other events.
As is typical of siheyuans, the compound has three conjoined courtyards surrounded by a series of chambers with traditional, grey, pitch-tiled roofs. These chambers are connected by a corridor running through the middle of the compound.
From the entrance, one passes through an archway then a corridor into the first courtyard where marble paving stones set amidst landscaped waterways lead to an open kitchen that’s semi-concealed by a bamboo “forest”. From behind the bamboo trees, guests can see scrumptious roast duck hanging in the display case of the open kitchen.
To the right of the entrance, is a terrace that functions as a three-dimensional viewing platform where guests can look down at the courtyards, the Beijing Imperial Academy and hutong beyond the compound’s walls, and also take in views of the sky above. A stone staircase leads up to this terrace. LDH installed mirrors panels on the wall of the staircase landing on the terrace level, so a reflection of Beijing’s old town and the golden roof of the Beijing Imperial Academy can be seen before guests step onto the terrace.
“Architecture is the mirror of life. When you see architecture through the mirror, you can feel a building’s past and its essence. Architecture is also the reflection of social life of a place,” says Liu.
From the first courtyard, guests proceed through a door adorned with flowers, along a winding corridor, towards the central courtyard.
“As a visual prelude, the flower-adorned door is both traditional and unrestrained, inviting people to glimpse the vitality and grandeur of Beijing as it looked a century ago,” says LDH’s founder Liu Daohua.
Beyond the central courtyard is the third courtyard – referred to as “the principal yard” – which is connected to a semi-open banquet hall. The ceiling and upper walls of this hall is decorated in gold lacquer, which together with the grey walls and crimson door posts, create an elegant, contemporary atmosphere. “We reconstructed the internal tilt facade of this hall according to a contemporary architectural scale and with modern materials,” says Liu. “On a sunny day, this gilded hall changes with the light and shadow, as if it were breathing,” he adds.
On one side of this banquet hall is a leisure area where guests can relax and chat before or after meals, and on the other side are wine cellars and cigar lounges.
Flanking the principal yard on the east and west are wings that contain private dining rooms – each with their own small garden that looks out to the bamboo “forest”.
Maintaining the architectural integrity of the siheyuan was LDH’s priority, so they removed the dilapidated walls and floors or the original building, but retained the compound’s original structure and layout, along with its existing wells, courtyards, and structural beams.
“We kept the original, colored drawings on the facade too, and integrated them with the surrounding environment. To modernize the space, we installed glass curtain walls along the north and south walls of the main hall. This enhanced the visual connectively of the interior program to the courtyards,” says Liu.
Mansion Feast prides itself in using seasonal ingredients for its changing menus, so LDH kept the existing trees – spring magnolia, summer crape myrtle, begonia, and holly pine – in the four corners of the central courtyard as an homage to the four seasons.
“The courtyards present a wonderful way to frame skyline views and draw sunshine and fresh air into the interior spaces. The sunlight shining on the trees in these outdoor areas create interesting shadow play which adds to the poetic atmosphere of the restaurant,” Liu says.
This project exemplifies LDH Design’s philosophy of being respectful of the relationship between design and nature, architecture and history, and context and culture. “Mansion Feasts is an open platform, which provides a space for everyone. What we’ve designed is a modern restaurant and event venue that celebrates the ancient imperial history of Beijing in an unforgettable way,” says Liu.
