Never forget to add a sprinkle that good old "lying to yourself" spice c:

"I will see this duel to the end if it costs us and everyone else their lives!" *Loses and falls off his d-wheel and fucking dies*

Ok, enough on making fun of him, it's actually interesting that he's so glaringly flawed. Like the man has almost committed murder (and he would again) to be "King", which is honestly... such a shallow title? Like, I'll look past the fact that he used to sit on a throne all by himself in the darkness just to feel cool- as well as the fact that the title specifically being the English word "King" and not the Japanese equivalent is very very pretentious of him. This guy is sort of interesting. I'll go and say that he felt inferior because of how naturally kind Yusei was and ended up deciding that if he wasn't meant to be the best good guy, he'd become the worst one.

He unironically went and said: "Him and I are different..." *dramatic hand gesture*

I just love my Yugioh rivals with inferiority complexes. I'm sure Jack takes a lot of pride in being taller than Yusei. He's also real fucking pissed that he's not the only chosen one. He thought he was special, then he sees Ruka and basically rolls his eyes thinking: "Wait, this kid is a Signer, too? Who's next? My assistant? Jaeger???"

I mean... you're not wrong. But nobody has actually told you any such thing, so either you're assuming things or you're lying to the kids and that, Yusei, is a bad thing to do u.u

Also, the Dark Signers' laughs are coordinated both in sound and animation, which makes every scene they appear in look like a skit rather than an ominous warning.

And with their appearance, it's time for the mind control subplot! Has to be one of the only plot points that all ygo series have in common. Another one being genocide, so, you know. Interesting how they specifically target people who have lost all hope by giving them something to believe in :P

So I wanted to say that there are three things I find amazing in the audio of the 5D's sub.

1) Yusei's voice. And I don't mean that I like how deep it is or something, like yeah, it's a nice sounding voice, but the best thing is how he articulates the syllables he pronounces. From time to time he'll pause a little like he's stumbling on his words slightly and that fits so well with Yusei being someone who doesn't speak much outside of dueling (unless it's with friends or out of necessity). It just sounds cool.

2) The fact that they have a card called "The End of Storm" and that they keep mentioning it (since it's one of Jack's signature cards). I just... have a thing for the way people pronounce foreign words. And that includes the beauty that is the way the characters say "Ji Endo Obu Sutōmu" (I copy pasted the romaji transcription, I'm not making fun of Japanese pronunciation. I legitimately love it).

3) The episode previews. It's usually Yusei saying: "I try to do this but a rando challenges me to a duel!? I'll show you the strength of the discarded! Next time, on Yugioh 5D's: 'Intimidating monster card VS Junk Warrior'! Riding Duel! Acceleration!!!"

You see, Jack prepared a one liner, but then Yusei kept responding to the fire and he had to recycle it multiple times in the same duel.

The audience is so funny in this tournament, because unless Aki is dueling, everybody’s just cheering. A guy fell off his motorcycle? The same guy attempted murder after exposing the crimes of Godwin? Godwin brushed off the accusation of mass murder like he’s been told his tie is crooked? Somebody fucking died?

Yaaaaaaaay.

Murder is fun and entertaining.

Up next we have this shot. It’s time to bully Jack.

He’s looking at Godwin’s butt, I’m sorry there is no other explanation. If he weren’t obsessed with Yusei, I’d say his taste in men is poor.

Also Jack during this whole thing is just… sitting on a couch and sometimes thinking “Yusei” or “Yusei won’t lose” or “When do I get to duel Yusei?”

Moving on to the other duelists… why do they have a counselor and a profiler duelist? That seems so over the top. But we do get great scenes from it like:

a) “I read a book on psychology once, so I can accurately diagnose you” or “If I were to reach any harder my arm would probably straight up fall off”

b) “My €5 L figurine just came in the mail!”

c) “I’ve seen your internet history and I’m not afraid to make it public”

d) “Baby’s first duel monsters match”

Wtf is this shot.

Am I supposed to be intimidated? Why can Jack never be in a shot without a weird angle??? Oh, yeah it’s because he’s a complete drama queen. But seriously. Why this shot. Jack manspeads, confirmed.

So what if he’s a power hungry maniac? I want a robotic arm, too. And as long as I get to be King, I couldn’t care less.”

Dramatic pause.

“Yusei, duel me, we need to settle the score, we need to be straight with eachother, the two of us are straight right?”
