Frodo is that Tolkein guy, right? Edit: Yes, Frodo Baggins is “that Tolkein guy,” I was just nose-deep in Old Norse and it didn’t look like a name anymore.
Only according to my textbook*, Frodo is the Skjǫldunga saga version of Old Norse (or at least, Hrólfs saga kraka) Fróði, more commonly used in the name Ari Fróði, Ari the Learned.
Frodo’s name is Smart Kid.
*which, to be fair, is trying to tell me that Hrolf’s Saga Kraki is the same story as Beowulf, and I’m not buying it, though I will grant they use the same historical figures

An analysis of Joris Jurgen’s various fears and insecurities
Aka, Liveblog - Dofus, livre 1 : Julith [PART 9]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene is one of the most important pieces of Joris's characterization,  — because of what it shows us about Joris's inner thoughts, and how he came to be the person that he is.
Tumblr media
Joris knows what he said to Kerubim was cruel. And the things that terrify him are both the guilt and the reaction Kerubim might have:
Tumblr media
The guilt of knowing why Kerubim is like that: His life full of nothing but horrible things and tragedies, that made him vulnerable. And Joris just called him an old wreck, as if it's Kerubim's fault that he was wrecked to begin with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the fear that he will be too distraught to reason with. That Joris will have to grovel and beg for him to calm him down.
He probably deems himself selfish, for feeling bad about the idea of giving Kerubim an apology for everything he said. Selfish, because really, he does owe everything to him, does he not?
Tumblr media
Joris is perfectly aware of his place in the world as an orphan. Kerubim didn't have to adopt him.
He could have tossed him out like a hot potato, and perhaps, for how grateful Joris is, it might be just what he deserves, as far as Joris is concerned.
Tumblr media
Joris is more than aware that he's fortunate to even have a roof over his head and some semblance of a family. Both because of Lilotte, and Kerubim himself.
Tumblr media
So feeling bad about anything concerning Kerubim is like looking a gift horse in the mouth.
Tumblr media
And here's the jealousy I spoke of, earlier. He views Lilotte both as a friend, and as a rival for Kerubim's affections, — because his survival has always depended on Kerubim liking him.
Tumblr media
It's why he's so anxious, and why his thoughts are so quick to spiral out of control, just like at this moment of the movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has nothing going for him besides Kerubim. Absolutely no family to speak of. So, if Kerubim can't, or doesn't want to take care of him, he has nobody left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Children learn very early on how to please their parents: and for Kerubim it's pure, uncomplicated love, with no drama, no hate involved.
Tumblr media
And it's the reason he fears Joris growing up, and keeps treating him like a little kid, trying to offset the inevitable:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Subtly, these feelings of love become more and more complicated, as someone grows older.
Tumblr media
It's why Joris tries so hard to mold himself into a comfortable image for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yet, despite all his attempts, Joris finds himself growing up into yet another person scorned, — doomed to hurt Kerubim. Even though growing up and hurting Kerubim, whom he loves so much, is the last thing he wants.
Even though he has his own needs for respect and personal space now. These childhood experiences and pain make him into a very guarded person. To him, deep friendship is all about emotional labour and being infantilized.
Tumblr media
Joris can't really be his own person as Kerubim's son, and nobody will ever take him seriously from a first glance, — he's faced with reminders of that in every aspect of his life. This has made him a creature of pride.
Tumblr media
He has to work with every fibre of his being to seem serious, cool, and professional, — because otherwise, he is doomed to not be taken serious, and be considered a child yet again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he has every reason to feel that way. It's just a constant uphill battle to be recognized as an adult.
It's why he wants Kerubim and Atcham to act as his children, — he can't, he just can't have people he actually likes knowing about Kerubim, and risking them seeing him as subservient to the man, as his son.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a way of having Kerubim and Atcham treat him as an equal — as a superior, even.
Though he knows that Kerubim and Atcham will never actually think that way of him, it is enough.
Tumblr media
They keep protecting him. And also, softly, making fun of him for these neuroticisms. But at least they don't think of him as child anymore.
And at least, he doesn't have to care about offending them, — a father is a creature that offends often, after all.

I’m imagining a 6 year-olds only tumblr winter holidays dashboard
Post 1: intense discourse over whether Santa is real or a massive adult conspiracy (voice of reason asks if it even matters as long as they get toys, pissed off kid reminding everyone that not everyone’s caregivers can afford toys, it is a matter of significant further debate whether this supports or refutes the viability of Santa Claus)
Post 2: kid who doesn’t celebrate Christmas liveblogs the insanity when he visits the house of a classmate who does celebrate Christmas (includes a picture of their pissed off cat wearing a Santa hat)
Post 3: a drawing of a dragon guarding a present hoard
Post 4: snowman building tips
Post 5: discourse on the appropriateness of posting about snowmen when not all kids live in places where it snows
Post 7: a “snowman” made of sand
Post 8: meta of a cartoon holiday special
Post 9: aesthetic picture of a menorah
Post 10: if this post gets 500,000 notes my mom says I can have a puppy for Christmas even though we don’t celebrate Christmas
Post 11: SANTA PAWS (this is the most popular meme, involving images of animals in Santa hats)

phantom of the paradise novelization liveblog here we go
I don't know that much about maine but I feel neutral about winslow being from there. he does strike me as a northerner, as well as someone from a small town
(paraphrasing but) "it was kind of winslow's fault his piano teacher killed himself" HUH???
"alan d. swan" holy moly at least "dorian" had some pizzazz
also winslow being 18 and not even out of high school is. a choice. in my opinion having him be in his 30s is more compelling
"phoenix" being a stage name does make sense but idk I kinda liked the idea her parents just named her that
this really does read like bad fanfic but it's not especially funny, just sort of dull... though there are some particularly egregiously bad moments, those aren't funny either
"autistic blob" CHRIST
winslow does not beat up any guards but the description of him losing his grip just makes me think of that "I'm insaaane... I'm crazayyy" video
whyyyy is this book so racist.
winslow just goes back to his old hotel after being in prison for four months and being horribly disfigured in the record press accident. ok man.

Some of you have probably noticed that I havent made a liveblog post in a while. Well, thats because I usually read on the bus and during my classes and then I come home and summarize my thoughts on the 2-5 chapters I read after theyve marinated in my head for a little while, but unfortunately i appear to be incapacited at the moment so I cant do that. But because its been weeks and I dont wanna forget anything and I would very much like to finish this series soon, I'll try to read at home sometimes from now on. Since my brain is still a lil mush Im gonna do what I did for my last post, which is write down what Im thinking as Im reading instead of summarizing all my thoughts retroactively, except this time I have my german copy on hand so if I want to quote something it'll be a translation
Anyway, with all that said, welcome to my twisted mind, please enjoy my thoughts on A Court of Mist and Fury Chapters 40
Chapter 40
Ive been wanting to say this for a while now but i kept forgetting, but they translated 'winnowing' as 'den Wind spalten' ['splitting the wind'] and that is objectively so much cooler, shoutout to my gal Alexandra Ernst for that
Feyre being like "ugh, its so pathetic how these human guards think they could stand a chance against even one of us" hurts me so much you guys what have they done to my girl
Once again, its apparently perfectly fine if Rhysand doesnt tell Feyre anything "because she never asked" but if Tamlin doesnt tell her anything when she never asked hes the devil
Also once again, Feyre is perfectly not-triggered at Mor wearing a scarlet dress
Idk how to explain this, but Rhysand saying that Feyre is wearing a golden crown because "she looks so good with it, how could he not give her one" is somehow the perfect encapsulation of the hollowness of her High Lady title
Oh, of course three of the queens only showed up to watch the other two talk, itd be too hard to write dialogue if they actually participated in this important conversation
hello???? Feyre referring to humans as "your kind" ??? wth is going on
"every side bears some blame" hey rhysand ive got a question for ya. which side enslaved the other again
everytime the oldest queen does anything the prose feels the need to remind me of how old and wrinkly she is and its like, i get it, shes OLD
The oldest queen is spitting so hard rn, Im not even gonna question how they heard of the night court when Feyre, who lived closest to Prythian for many years, didnt know anything aout the individual courts prior to getting there herself, Im just gonna put her whole little monologue here: "Oh? [...] The High Lord of the Night Court asks that we join him so that we can save lives together? Fight for peace? And what about the lives that you have taken during your long, despicable existance? What about the High Lord who shrouds himself in darkness and destroys the mind of those who stand in his way? [...] We have heard of you on the continent, Rhysand. We have heard of what the Court of Night is capable of, what you do to your enemies. Peace? I wouldn't have thought that you - a man who enslaves the minds of others and kills them out of pure enjoyment - even know that word."
Anyway, she was spitting absolute bars and Feyre gets super mad about it and almost commits arson but manages to reign herself in and its like girlie, why are you so upset? one of the first things we find out about the night court in this book is that they apparently indiscriminately kill (or atleast torture) anyone who crosses the night court border without permission like theyre the fucking us government, i think the bad reputation is justified
Forgive me if I sound callous, but I have absolutely no sympathy for Rhysand flinching at the mention of Amarantha when Feyre didnt even use her name and is also talking about how she fucking DIED AT HER HANDS
God, I feel like I have something to say about every single line this post is gonna be like 10 thousand words long by the time Im done
So lets take it from the top; Feyre tries to convince the mortal queens to give them the half of the book by recounting to them how much everyone suffered under Amarantha and how she was gruesomely beaten to death and then revived, which is not a compelling argument to me, who actually witnessed all of that, much less these queens who have barely any context for anything shes saying right now
The oldest queen is like "you dont know anything about anything" which is true what the fuck does Feyre know about whats going on in the human world or even the fae world at large, and then Rhysand growls "dont you dare talk down to her!!" because shes passionate and speaking from the heart or whatever and its like, okay, shes still not good at politicking or even just basic negatioation and shes talking to a seasoned politician who old as fuck
Like, if Feyre was actually smart, she wouldve long since realized that she couldnt convince these queens to protect this little slip of land right up to prythians border and been like "okay, you dont wanna protect the land, but can you atleast organize an evacuation so you can atleast save the people" Sure, they definitely still wouldnt have agreed to that because its a sjm book and theyre written to be comically evil, but it would atleast demonstrate Feyre being a little savvy, because right now all we're getting is her being stupid and stubborn in a situation where she really cant afford that
god, im just now noticing how pissed off I am, its been bleeding into my commentary and its not gonna stop, Im sorry. wait no, if youre reading this youre probably looking for negativity, so youre welcome, actually
Anyway, Rhys also says that Feyre is a kindhearted soul looking out for people who cant defend themselves even though she definitely thought that those human guards were pathetic for wanting to defend themselves when she and the other fae were soooooo much more powerful and he definitely knows that because the mental bond is fully open during this meeting and he chastises the queens for being selfish and cowardly when its like, my brother in christ you are doing the exact same bullshit, but atleast the queens are defending a wholeass continent while hes defending one (1) city. and iirc that city ends up getting attacked and destroyed anyway so good job my guy
Theres something so oddly biblical about the story Mor is telling about Miriam, down to her name being Miriam
That island thats removed from time is such bullshit istg
Is it just me or have these bozos not actually explained what they even need the other half of the book for. theyre just like "we need to stop this war and we'd like peace between humans and fae" and its like cool, hows the book gonna help with that though
im sorry, feyre wants to punch that old woman in the face????
the chapter ends with Elain being like "I hope they burn in hell" and i get that, they just straight up said that they want to abandon a whole bunch of people (them included) to die if a war breaks out, but you cant say that the night court girlies are not also at fault for being so fucking bad at politics

Letters From Watson Liveblog - Oct. 6
Charles Augustus Milverton, Part 3 of 3
Tumblr media
This is an almost comical situation, as well as a pretty common trope nowadays. Sometimes I forget that these stories are over a hundred years old, and it makes me wonder whether this is the first instance of the sneaking-in-then-person-walks-in scene.
Tumblr media
Holmes shouldering up to Watson and now grasping his hand is great. What's even better though is Watson intuitively understanding all these gestures and what they mean, which goes to show how close they are to each other.
Tumblr media
I forgot the detail that the veiled woman here meets Milverton under the pretense of being a servant selling blackmail material. I had always remembered it as her being upfront about being a past victim from the beginning. I think I prefer the actual version here cause it catches Milverton off guard and puts him at a disadvantage for once.
Tumblr media
I love that she unloads into him. A single bullet would probably be sufficient, but a barrage is much more emotional. It really adds to how angry she is. She's the real hero of this story really. I don't want to discount Holmes, it's just that if his plan succeeded Milverton would still be alive and blackmailing. With her, he can't do that anymore.
Tumblr media
Not to give Milverton any credit, but it's impressive he can still talk after being shot so many times before dying.
Also, her grinding her heel into his face feels more visceral to me than the bullets for some reason. I think it's because the bullets had a purpose, i.e. to kill him, but crushing his face is clearly for her personal satisfaction.
Tumblr media
I just wanted to show another example of Holmes and Watson's non-verbal understanding of each other through something as simple as a firm grip.
Tumblr media
A very considerate action on Holmes' part. He could have just burned Lady Eva's letters, but if all the letters are there, next to a great big fire, might as well right? No harm done.
Tumblr media
A classic moment. A part of me has always liked to think Lestrade knew, or at least heavily suspected, it was Holmes and Watson, mainly because of this line. Though if he's still alive to read this story years later then he'll know either way.
Tumblr media
Is the veiled woman supposed to be a reference to someone well-known at the time, like an actual statesman's wife? I know Milverton was based on a real blackmailer, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was similar for her.
Great story, all in all. I really liked Milverton and his death, and it's a shame he's not more prominent in adaptations, but his story can really only end in one way, so it makes sense. Regardless, I had a lot of fun and look forward to The Six Napoleons.
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Personal note: I've never done liveblogging before so I hope you guys enjoy this. @spacejasontodd thanks for the encouragement. This is dedicated to you :D
Also Tumblr was very mean and kept on deleting whatever I've done and I felt like crying.
Spoilers for: Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Steel Ball Run Chapter 3
Tumblr media
I love this. This looks like an old movie poster and I'm living for it. Would buy it as a print if I had money.
11/10 very wild west-esque.
Tumblr media
This reminds me of a watercolor painting, like the ones in those illustrated classics books. The horse looks so pretty.
12/10 makes me want to read Black Beauty again.
Although can a 5 year old properly ride a horse like how Johnny is doing without getting hurt?
Tumblr media
Look, I don't care what anyone says, propositioning a minor like that, whether it is enthusiastic or not counts as sexual harassment.
This has been a PSA. And a Threat.
Something terrible is going to happen. I can feel it.
But first...
Tumblr media
Look at how pretty these trophies are.
11/10 very winnable.
So in this part of the story, Johnny's gf(?I guess?) wants to go to a play and so they cut in at the very beginning of the line in front of a child who had been waiting since the night before. [Johnathan Joestar is upset at your ungentlemanly behavior] Child is understandably angry but Johnny pays the guards to take the child away.
Then this happens.
Tumblr media
I won't say that Johnny had it coming but there could have been better(legaler?) ways to resolve this. Then again money talks and Johnny has that in spades. So there probably was no other way. Probably.
On a less philosophical note, how did that child get a gun out of seemingly nowhere? I mean, I know this takes place in America where you can find guns at the grocery store, but still, there must have been a registeration office. Or law enforcement atleast.
Tumblr media
This looks genuinely painful and what that nurse warden man did to Johnny was an ethics violation and he should be sacked.
On another note, why do all the Jojo's have abs? It's not morally wrong or anything but it's..weird?? Like abs and trauma are like a Jojo staple. Almost like a starter pack.
Tumblr media
To answer your question, Jojo, it's probably because he is competing in the Steel Ball Run race.
This shot looks so pretty. I can imagine it being animated. This would look so good animated. Gyro looks great.
Tumblr media
Just in case anyone forgot he is a Jojo, he also has that hereditary recklessness.
Tumblr media
This looks very painful but also pretty. It's the swirls I guess. Swirls are pretty.
Tumblr media
Don't test him Gyro, the guy will actually do it, wheelchair or not.
On another personal note I'm thinking of naming this liveblog as 'SBR in 10 pics or less' because Tumblr app is a jerk and I can only use the app right now.

a collection of highlights and viewing notes from 'Now Museum, Now You Don't' because I don't have the time to liveblog while watching but I do have thoughts
I mean first off- that title! massive kudos to the Zoom audience for that one, well played (someone tell the Now You See Me creators that this is how you play off that pun!!!!!!)
Hen leading the opening musical number? we love to see it
the watch is a recurring symbollllllll!!!!! fr, everyone just stealing Dan's watch tho lmao (Dan, every time: you bastard! :D)
Dave not being American for once XD
Dan (Dave), to Tom (Niall): Go on, kiss my neck.
with all due respect, sir: wtf? XD I feel like I'm missing a reference here lol -> I love the fact that Oscar misses this moment, but at the very end, when Suzanne (Lauren) and Tom hug each other, he tells them to move apart -> conclusion: Oscar is furthering the gay agenda /jk XD
a scene that (almost) passes the Bechdel test! come through Lauren and Bryony! solidarity baby, we love to see it (in their defence, they had to keep the plot going and also: improv lol)
also, Bry getting confused and lowkey copying Lauren's Aussie accent
Bry: We're so lucky to have you from... Australia?
Bryony's karate scene featuring a clueless-until-the-last-moment Shields XD
oh! a boys-only musical number! led by Hen! go off then, lads lol
and forcing Dave to sing and rap! amazing! XD (to his credit, the man's got mad rhymes, but for some reason couldn't jump on the beat? lol)
enter Shields: a sinister old man named Colonel Sanders (shoutout to Lauren for that gem lmao)
also enter Shields: an oddly jovial, somewhat tame English prison guard who watches cat videos and then very calmly, while everyone's nice and quiet...
"Well. Time for the pornography." - Shields
Oscar very much losing the plot in this one (in most senses of the word XD)
from trying to contain Shields (see above lmao)
to his bizarre cameo ("I honestly thought I'd do better than that" - Oscar)
Harry absolutely roasting Oscar for his improv attempts as revenge for all the times Oscar dunked on him, only to have the tables turned all too quickly with "schlum" XD
"Do not try to seek revenge on a small bitter man when it is past his bedtime! I will make you say "schlum" for 15 minutes!!!" - Oscar
and of course, 'Now Museum, Now You Don't' as a finale? damn! as far as musical finales go, it's a goddamn banger y'all lol (legit had the whole house singing XD)

Alex Rider S03E03 Reaction
These are my unspoiled reactions to episode three.
Time to get Alex to Scorpia!!
Liveblog
Aww they are really sad about Alex
Alex going with Nile!!!
So many armed guards!! MALAGOSTO
Bless, Nile is giving him nothing
Not yet??? Love how eager Nile is to kill lol
Ahsdlfhs maybe you shouldn’t have plugged in the Scorpia stick!!!
“Sorry I thought that was obvious” lmao I love how Blunt comes out looking so well in Scorpia when you put him up against incompetent and doubtful politicians
“I’ve isolated this computer entirely” yeah… maybe you should have done that before plugging in the stick…
Gosh the home secretary… the fact that Scorpia wasn’t even going to give a demonstration at first seems kind of doubtful but then I guess they never expected their demands to be met any way and this is more a way to get back at the Department, so this sort of tension between politics and the Department is good for them
Alex why are you just walking up to a random Scorpia person lol
“It’s not like he’s going to be there” ahsdfhs Kyra lmao
“To finish you, to put an end to Scorpia” it’s interesting how in the show Scorpia is so much more involved in Alex’s earlier missions & Yassen is connected to them, which means that Alex doesn’t go into this just wanting to know about his dad, but he’s actually got some grievances with them already
“You look so much like your father” eeeeek
Your father was one of us!!!
Why is the Home Secretary still involved ahsdlfdhs doesn’t she have a job
It is mildly funny to me how the Department seems to consist of exactly three people at this point. Like the data scientist really was just the fourth person in the building huh
Pizza 😂 okay i will admit that is smart, wonder if it’s also a callback to Alex infiltrating Mrs Jones’s flat in the book
Does he look like his father? xD but also !! John backstory!!
Ian walking away hitting John the hardest 😭
“He became a very close friend of mine” oh so I guess she did know him?? Then what about the file??
Lmao Tom and Kyra getting arrested
My father was a killer 😭👀
Oh are they giving Scorpia an actual motive lol
How would Alex recognise his handwriting?? I know in the book it’s somehow identical to his own but how does ahorz think handwriting inheritance works??
Three years of service?? The second letter is from the book but gosh no mention of Alex’s mother so far huh
Ohhh the letters are addressed to W, so I guess maybe John never learned her name?? In all three years?? Despite romancing her??
It seems so silly to me how Mrs Jones and Crawley are like actually meeting people and joining excursions. Why are they so visible??
“John never changed who he was, he only changed the people he worked for” 👀
‘This could be your home’ she says about an industrial underground complex with poor lighting ahsldfhs
Is Alex going to join because of Yassen 👀 Feels like he will need an extra reason at this point, maybe she’ll tell him about the Department killing his dad tho
Is Scorpia listening to their communications??
I’m sorry this is very sad and all but like, why are Smithers and Mrs Jones so emotional at all the casualties. Surely you would need to be able to compartmentalise in a job like this
In fairness, Malagosto is probably an upgrade from the Department’s headquarters
Oh like, real Alex/Kyra ship fuel huh
Gosh Alex agreeing to help end the Department even if he has no idea how many people will be killed. But he wants to end them for what they did to his father
I WANT YOU TO MEET YOUR TUTOR AHSLDFHSLFHS
YASSEN!!!!! CANONICAL TUTOR YASSEN!!! HELLO ALEX!!
Overall
Yassen is Alex’s tutor which is everything I ever wanted!!!!! Loved the backstory stuff, love Blunt, love angsty Alex, can’t WAIT for the Malagosto training scenes, THEY MADE YASSEN ALEX’S TUTOR!!!
Thought/predictions
I’m fascinated at how Mrs Rothman never once mentioned Alex’s mother despite her apparently being in the picture because Alex was six months old. I feel like it’s a hint at the discrepancy in her story, how I guess maybe she didn’t know about his mother until she learned about the fake death too and that’s part of why she wants revenge.
Not entirely sold on this John actor ngl, but I do love that we got some flashbacks and I’m desperately craving John&Yassen flashbacks which I’m pretty sure we may get next ep with Yassen back in the picture. Gosh I’m so excited.
Tom and Kyra might get in trouble with Scorpia maybe or something, I have to admit I don’t really care much about their plotline, and it looks like Jack will stay side-lined this season, or at least while stuff takes place in Malta.
Tutor Yassen!!!!!! I need him to spar with Alex omg omg they are really giving us what we want here.
Questions
What is Invisible Sword?? This scene was very close to the book, but I can’t quite imagine them going with the vaccines storyline after 2020.
How much does Yassen know about John and what really happened? Apparently John’s death/Albert bridge was super classified within Scorpia, and Yassen does seem to be decently top ranking, and it looked like he was just waiting in the next room for Julia to do her big reveal, so it’s unlikely he wasn’t aware. He can literally see the paused shot of John lying ‘dead’ on the bridge lol. But does Yassen know the truth? I have to imagine he doesn’t, or rather, I don’t want him to be lying to Alex :((
Why *does* Scorpia want to train Alex, actually? In the book his time at Malagosto was honestly more testing rather than training, but what does Julia hope to get out of it? Do they want Alex to take out Mrs Jones as part of the revenge plot? Then again, no reveal about it being Mrs Jones who gave the order, so maybe they will stick to a general ‘the Department/Alan Blunt did it’ and aim Alex at them like that.
