why are skirts inherently evil and oppressive in historical fiction until men are wearing them

I've never heard anyone going on at length about how Universally ImpracticalTM the garb of a Scotsman or an ancient Roman politician are

suddenly everyone has a concept of situational practicality that previously was not there

Not dog related but have you been to Kuopio? My wife and I are planning to move there in a few years and I’m just curious what your thoughts might be as someone who actually lives in Finland. Also do you enjoy a cold dip after sauna or is that not really your thing?

I used to live in Kuopio! Spent my early childhood there. I still visit several times a year, it's one of those home-away-from-home places for me.

I don't enjoy cold, I rarely swim and I barely ever go to sauna (it always makes me feel sort of light-headed), so not my thing really :'> But if you think you might enjoy, like, the temperature shock and the adrenaline rush go for it.

#answered #ephemeralprince #I was a preschooler when we moved out and haven't lived there since so I can't really give any tips on what to do #I recommend the Kuopio museum though! it has a good natural history collection if you don't mind taxidermy #and a lifesize mammoth replica that traumatized my baby brother back in the day #I'm generalizing of course but Kuopio is probably pretty easy town to move to by Finnish standards #people are likely to speak English #and folks from Savo are typically considered to be reasonably social and chatty compared to some other regions

the idea that Orym has a death wish has led to some of the most laughable meta I've seen. Orym tells his closest friend - who has a penchant for delightfully wild impulses, is possibly important to the enemy's plot, and is about to see her biological father, about whom she has all kinds of complicated feelings - to not take unnecessary risks and people are handing out pamphlets on "a Treatise on Orym's Belief in Doom; Being an Account of His Deep-seated Hypocritical Actions Regarding The Pact With Morrigan, Hag and Fatestitcher" and it's like. idk man maybe they're going to be separated in a very clearly dangerous scenario and she specifically is in an emotionally charged and tricky one and he is saying "be careful", a normal thing friends might say to each other.

I realize this is a weird question for a Sunday morning, but does anybody have particularly incisive articles about the tension between architectural preservation and the need (because I do think it's a need!) for new buildings, new spaces, and revising the landscape of a city?

I'm watching a piece on Richard Nickel, who is almost single-handedly responsible for photographing the work of Louis Sullivan and other architects of the Chicago Prairie School, prior to their demolition in the 60s. It's a great piece, and I love Nickel's photographs, but as someone who knows only the Chicago that sprang up in the wake of Nickel's, I can't help but wonder if there's more than simple aesthetics at play here.

#like...I love the driehaus museum! house museums are very cool.#if they manage to rehab the lu palmer mansion and muddy waters' house on the south side I will be ecstatic #but also people need places to live and work. these places need indoor plumbing and laundry rooms and kitchens.#architecture is great but so are grocery stores.#I love fancy buildings and history but you can't trap a city under glass like that. that's not how it works.#..............anyway hope everybody else is having a normal one and not grappling with existential questions of historical memory at 9am

Behind every great museum is a disheveled historian who can't sustain a normal conversation for more than 5 minutes eating pizza at their computer desk at 2 in the morning blasting Nightcore remixes in their headphones because they have too many projects and all of them are nearing their deadline for completion
