my gosh, i have so much to say after reading “thin ice” i don’t even know where to begin!!!

first off, i’m so SEVERALLY sorry for spam-liking nearly all the chapters in the two-day time span 😭 i wanted to show my support so bad i didn’t even even realize it! your writing was simply so amazing that it was the least i could do!

secondly, i adore the way you write an outstanding amount; it’s the perfect balance between narration and dialogue and i wholeheartedly love and admire it in the same sense. the dialogue seems so nonchalant and realistic while the narration and descriptions are equally as vivid and beautifully written—especially the action scenes (more specifically, y/n’s performances and the games, especially the game in the last chapter! that was such an exhilarating read, i was on my toes the entire time auqqgwhfja)!

your characterization of childe and y/n are simply so stunning. highlighting both of their strengths and weaknesses so visibly in equal portion isn’t something i see often in works, especially in long series like this so extreme props to you! i especially loved childe’s extreme love of both hockey and family and how he prioritizes them—he’s so often mischaracterized as only mischievous so it was such a refreshing turn from the fratboy-who-only-cares-about-playing-girls trope he’s often stuck in. not only that, but the characterization of everyone in general are spectacular and humorous. i’m awed at the way you wrote jean and zhongli and always let out a small snort whenever the ragnvindr brothers came on—i love nothing more than sibling bickering. how jean is written as both someone feared and idolized isn’t a stunt that everyone can pull so flawlessly but i was so captured by the way she was given an almost mysterious aura surrounding her presence that wasn’t even there more than half the time.

the slowburn buildup was perfect. i’m so thankful i discovered “thin ice” with the latest chapter uploaded since it gave me such an adrenaline rush to read and i would’ve been biting my nails for another chapter without the slightest bit of closure. the pacing was great and the build-up was astonishing and stomach-turning!!!!

i’m so sorry for the long rant but i simply had so much to say! i binged this all in two days and im so happy i did so because this easily landed in my top favorite works of all time! thank you for writing such a beautiful but humorous masterpiece and i look forward to the update!

awww thank you for liking my characterization !! i know this version of all the characters isn't the exact same cocky, loveable bastard in fanon, but i wanted to try my hand at writing him with his own quirks and charms !! coach jean was definitely a character that encourages the reader's growth and was probably one of my favorite characters to write !! the reader's idolization of her is what drives them to work hard (at first, at an unhealthy level), but also she's just the best mom friend ever !! and coach zhongli, while based on no one in particular, definitely takes the typical dad vibe that i've always felt from him :D

i'm glad my pacing was good !! i worry often that i wrote it too fast accidentally ^^;

💫what is your favorite kind of comment/feedback?

Unfortunately, my favorite kind of comment is one that can't be easily replicated, hahah. XD I get a sense of whether my writing is good (aka effective at what I was attempting to convey) if the comments match what I expected readers to feel. For example — since I expected people to feel horrified and anxious while Obi-Wan's shock collar was activated in chapter 7 of Five Peggats Each, the terror in almost everyone's comments was very emotionally satisfying to me. For an example of the opposite — in chapter 2 of Every Shadow, I was actually really surprised that nobody mentioned how hard Anakin was trying; thus, I started to wonder if I hadn't properly conveyed that (or if him whipping out his lightsaber had contradicted it to a greater extreme than I originally planned).

Note: I loved all the comments on chapter 2; this is just a gauge I use to understand the effectiveness of my writing and how it's being perceived. Any failure to portray Anakin correctly to my vision was mine lmao; no one can take that away from me. XD

In other words, my favorite kind of comment is the one that manages to pierce through the veil and speak to my very soul. My favorite kind of comment is written by someone who has literally read my Brainthoughts™ unfiltered via my writing alone. So, if you're aiming to regularly give me my favorite kind of feedback, good luck with that, hahaha. (Though honestly, I really appreciate knowing how people react, even if unexpected, because then it helps me improve my writing for next time! So even if a reader can't telepathically communicate with me lmao, literary analysis is still very favored.)

Also I can't be asked this question without stating my favorite comment ever lmfao which is: "Anakin, I mean this in the most understanding, empathetic way possible… You’re an ungrateful little bitch." One time, when I was younger, I read a writing craft book by an author I found pretty humorous. One chapter asked the aspiring writer to consider what they fear. "Some people fear failure. Others fear success... yeah, I still haven't managed to figure that one out." Ten-year-old me found this hilarious. Joke's on me though because now, twenty years later, I am exactly the kind of writer who fears success. :') And I, too, haven't managed to figure it out.

I'm insecure; thus, I crave validation. If I don't get validation when I post something, I will cry ugly crocodile tears. (In other words, please don't think the solution to what I'm about to say is to stop commenting, lol; I'm a ho and I love you.) At the same time, I am anxious! So, if I do get validation, I will cry ugly panic-attack fears. It doesn't matter if the feedback is positive or negative — the more I get, the more the terror paralyzes me. For the life of me, I do not know why this is the case. I love comments, I want comments; I love feedback, I want feedback. For some reason, my body just immediately goes into fight-flight-freeze-fawn, without my brain's consent lol.

Luckily, after the first week or so, the anxiety fades, and I feel very proud while I remember every single kindhearted and wonderful comment I got — without feeling like my heart is gonna skyrocket into the astral plane. By then though, the celebration period has passed lmao. So yeah, I don't really do that part. Though, I guess I do have a ritual of sending my chapter to my mom and hearing her thoughts while we get ice cream after... So that's pretty nice, and I like it. :')

💞what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

Really, I couldn't care less about things like grammar and typos lol.

For me, the most important part of a story is that it's doing something different. In some way, it has to be doing something that hasn't been done before. There are so many ways a story can do this and many times it can be done purely just by being your own unique self. In other words, this is not a contradiction to the "two cakes" logic. Unless you're literally plagiarizing someone else's writing, the way you have made the second cake will always be new and different, purely because it was made by someone who is new and different.

I do think people often shy away from their own uniqueness when they're writing. There are an unfortunate amount of jokes about fic being "too self-indulgent," and many novice writers seem to think that their oddities and quirks make them weird or unpalatable to readers. They are absolutely wrong — those oddities and quirks are actually what make their writing most appealing! Being self-indulgent should be the goal. If you're not weirding the fuck out of people by being bizarrely interested in one specific thing, then what you're actually doing is trying to fit yourself, as a triangle, into a circle mold. If there are no triangle molds in existence, that's fine — carve one out for yourself. :)

In short, be a freak. Be a weirdo. The weirder and freakier you are, the more readers you will draw, and the more passionate your writing will become. Absent of passion, stories are bland and dull and tired. For me, the most important part of a story is the way it lets me empathize with an author who is radically different from the rest.

🍭why did you start writing?

I started writing the second I knew how to hold a pencil — like "yeah they knew I was a creep, since the day I was born" lol. Maybe instead, let's say why I started writing fanfiction. I've written fic since I was a teenager but the last few years, I've grown an intense appreciation for the genre. Ursula K. LeGuin is an author whose style is so wonderful to me, mostly in that she revisits and revisits and revisits and revisits. Truly, her work was very much like fanfiction of her own past work in many ways. The freedom of fanfiction to innovate and improvise the structure of a story (even one's own story) without the approval of a publishing company (or societal expectations) is something that's really hard to find in other spaces. So I like fanfic, and, though I sometimes cycle through fandoms, I'm very much here to stay.

🎙️which one of your fics would you like someone to make a pod-fic of?

The prose in Five Peggats Each is actually something I've worked very hard at — particularly in giving a rhythm to the words. One that is easy to hear and audibly pleasing. I would love if someone was interested in doing that. :') Especially because then I could listen to the total whumpiness of chapter 7 with my own ears. It's my favorite. I've forever peaked lol.

Relevant sidenote: I sent my brother some excerpts of my writing recently (specifically the excerpt in the summary of Every Shadow and the musician/cantina paragraphs near the beginning of chapter 6 of Five Peggats Each), and he was like "dude, this would be an incredible audiobook" which made me super happy. :')

Ok so I wanna say that the two of you some how meet and start a regular meet up at some random shady bar where the two of you will sit for hours passing back rumors and just drama that you have witnessed since the two of you talked last. After that the two of you start meeting more regularly and usually at your home. Once the two of you really get close and even start a relationship Fox finally relaxes around you. Fox has also always loved the way you dressed, whether it be in comfy clothes or your cute skirts, he doesn't care he just likes the idea of wearing something different everyday rather than just blacks and his armor. Fox also likes to play with your hair at any given chance, and he appreciates that you always have it down because it just means that he has easier access too in, especially in certain situations *wink wink*. 1. What is their full name? Why was that name chosen? Does it mean anything?

Is this asking why I the author picked his name? Because mostly I just picked it because I liked the way it sounds lol. It wasn't until like almost a year after the fact that I was like. bitch. Yixing is one of the guys in Exo (and um apparently he has a solo music career as well but oh my god is it lackluster to me but oh well). It's also a place! It's the city/county where all the clay for those really neat teapots come from lol BUT if you mean in the context of the story, then there's like. a little more reason other than it just sounds cool.

Liao Yixing is his full name and no he doesn't have a middle name. People think that's weird. Middle names aren't very common where he's from, and they're usually just the mother's maiden name anyway (which is his case would be Sheng). Naming conventions in his neck of the woods are such that a child shares a part of at least one parent's name (which can become a problem for people that have a lot of children lmao), and for some reason his father was really gunning for them to have the same name, which is Yiwei. BUT his mother said it would be too complicated for other family members to use (thanks mom I guess), so they compromised with the one syllable instead. Also the -xing part of his name comes from his mother whose first name is Xinyu. For what it's worth, even though he hates literally everything his parents ever gave him, he does really like his own name! When he left home at fifteen (!!! smalltown_boy.mp3) he considered changing it just to have a totally clean break, but he liked it too much. I think it suits him.

Ciaran laughs at every fucking thing because he takes virtually nothing seriously, and people get upset with him because of it at times. He has to laugh because like. what else are you supposed to do? Take the world seriously when you've been living on it for a thousand years against your will? Fuck no! He loves morbid humor and dry humor, but he also isn't above laughing at like. poop jokes. And yes, he can be fucking hilarious. He loves to be the butt of a joke and happily makes fun of himself (frankly the only person that isn't allowed to make fun of him is his dad), and he will do and say all kinds of stupid shit to get people to laugh. He's also REALLY good at telling funny stories, probably because he has so many to choose from, but also because he's good at exaggerating things for the sake of humor. And when he's around Go-Eun and they start drinking, he will tell the most hilarious but batshit insane stories of their hijinks together. And everyone loves them. Basically he likes to be the center of attention lol

Um, existentially? Anwei's biggest fear is that none of anything fucking matters at all. That none of the horrible things she's lived through happened for any reason and that the world ended one day but shit kept going on forever just because some stupid gods got BORED one time. But physically? She hates closed in spaces and deep water. She's the kind of person that has to get loaded up on xanax to fly overseas because it involves the two things she's most afraid of. She also is kind of afraid of bears. Even if you don't stay dead, getting mauled to death by a bear fucking sucks. Generally speaking, she's very good at hiding her emotions and is the master of a poker face, so even if she's about to have a whole meltdown, nobody will know it until she just snaps. She goes completely quiet and most people will assume she's in a bad mood or something, but then she EXPLODES into a full-blown panic attack and everyone is like “Why didn't you say something sooner?!?!”

Andhira has lived long enough to know that calling any pleasure guilty is a waste of time and effort. But she definitely considers her occasional affection for humans a guilty pleasure lol. She kind of pities them because they don't live very long and they're generally quite weak and they make so many stupid decisions and spend so much time trying to fuck each other over, but at the same time... they're more often than not kind, they love to care for each other in times of need, they laugh and cry with each other over shared meals, they don't know any better about the worlds that exist beyond their own. She thinks it's all very charming in its own way. She likes to watch them from afar (study them like a mad scientist lol) but sometimes she gets roped into their short lives, and she tries to make the most of it. Sometimes humans make great lovers, which brings me to her UNguilty pleasure: pussy. It speaks for itself lol

45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?

UM Vera sees herself as a failure, a waste of space, damaged goods, and a pathetic has-been who thought she could do good things and only made everything worse for everyone that has ever had the displeasure of knowing her. MEANWHILE, other people see her as a woman who has lived through hell and back ten times over. They know she has, um, issues, but she is still kind and generous and caring beneath her cold facade. Generally speaking, people really like her. Her neighbors come to her for help with simple fixes (like leaky faucets and such) and she never turns them down even if she frowns and doesn't speak the entire time she's offering a hand. They think she's kind of weird because she sits on the roof of the building at weird hours and regularly falls asleep up there, but they know she works weird hours so nobody thinks twice about it. Strangers are a little afraid of her because she doesn't have much to say and rarely smiles, but she always smells nice and she cleans up after people in the grocery store despite not working there. Her family loves her dearly. They wish they could help her more but she refuses it at every turn (sometimes very RUDELY lol). They know she only acts that way because she's embarrassed that they have to see her at her worst. They know she's trying to make things easier for them by keeping everyone she cares about at arm's length. Mostly they just wish they could ease her pain even a little bit because she's suffered so much and keeps it all to herself.

Robin has a reputation. Is it good or bad? It depends on who you ask. There was a time when he competed that he was notorious for his overinflated ego because people just could not touch the dude. He never had a bad day of climbing, and he sure as shit wanted people to know it. (I made a post about it recently because um his and Ciaran's personalities would clash so fucking hard lmao) So to a lot of fellow competitors (especially international ones), they hear his name and grimace. Because he sucks. But since he retired, he's become a completely different person and does not give a single fuck about winning or losing or performing better than someone else. Like what the fuck is a climbing grade? Idk bro I'm just here to pull on some rock. To people that don't know him from climbing, he is an angel at first meeting. Unbelievably friendly, always the first to tell a joke, will buy you a meal and take you on a walking tour of Atlanta if you need one, would give you the shirt off his back, etc etc etc. And that's how he comes across to climbing people that don't know him too, but then they hear the rumors of how he was such a shithead that his coach quit mid-season one time and he almost lost his sponsorships, and they think, “This can't possibly be the same guy,” but it is! Time really mellows a guy out.

If he was introducing himself to a person the climbing world, he would say something like, “Hi, I'm Robin. You know, Delarosa? Yeah, you might've heard of me. Do you want to see pictures of all my medals? I have 57 of them and more than half of them are gold. Do you want my advice as a professional climber? Quit while you're ahead. And if you're in Chongqing for world's, do not eat at that hot pot restaurant by the hotel. It's way overpriced and I got food poisoning there once.” And for a non-climbing person, he would say, “Hi, I'm Robin and I'm really looking forward to working with you. Have you ever been to Atlanta? Oh, you'll love it here. Yeah, the traffic sucks but everything else is so nice. The aquarium has puffins now. If you have the time you should go see them!"

NO MATTER THE SITUATION, Wren must ALWAYS have a pair of climbing shoes. Her shoe of choice is the Scarpa Chimera, and she basically carries a pair of them with her at all times lol. That also raises the question of how big is this bag? Because a reusable grocery bag is way different than a ziploc sandwich bag which is way different than a duffel bag. Either way, she would basically bring the same things because she doesn't need much. Climbing shoes of course (you NEVER know when you'll go to the gym or to the crag or wherever and nobody wants to use the rentals if they don't have to), her WALLET lol, her phone, a portable charger, deodorant, eye drops, chapstick, a granola bar, one of those weird little nutrition gels (I tried one once and um. How do people stomach them?), and a little portable utensil case. She has survived 20-hour layovers in airports with less! Those are her essentials, and that's what's in the backpack she carries with her everywhere (though there's a cycle of spare socks, journals with all her training and nutrition plans in them, pens, soy sauce packets, and the stacks of punch cards from the froyo place she goes to with Robin like twice a week. She tells herself she's saving the free cup for a rainy day, but she has like six full punch cards at this point.) If she got to pack a little more, she'd throw in a chalk bag, MAYBE a harness, a change of clothes, and those little biodegradable body wipes. She's used to packing light for the ten million or so climbing trips she's been on and also living in a fucking van with her family for the first seven years of her life. She doesn't need much to be content. HOWEVER, packing for competitions overseas? Well, let's just say she needs a thousand pairs of underwear. Just in case. You never know.

I do have some anger issues and I am quite the control freak but I never let anyone else see that side of me unless I know them. I do my best to avoid any form of conflict. When I'm comfortable enough out of my shell, I'm much more bold, open, and, some may say, intense. I can get pretty chaotic when I'm 100% in my element.

I am a very obsessive person, once I am interested in something I tend to suck the life out of it, or just lose interest and move onto the next subject. I love to write and I occasionally draw, though I am horrendously critical of it all. I love anything crime, mystery, or horror related and I especially love to write about it. Though I have a very soft spot for romance.

I love to joke with people, though I have a very strange sense of humor. I hate a lot of things, though overly loud, or confrontational people really erk me. I hate PDA, I hate being touched in public, or without permission. I most definitely hate pet names like 'babe' or 'baby' it makes me very uncomfortable.

I never thought I'd be on here this long. I've been on here for almost 5 years! It's kind of weird to think that I was on here before Anti even existed on the channel. It's even weirder to think about the fact I'll be 17 in less than 3 months.

I just want to thank you all for helping me get this far. I didn't think I'd even live to 15, and yet here I am, about to be 17.

To the JSE Community, you guys are like family to me. You are the most perfect family I could ever wish for. You guys are so inclusive and accepting, and you just have so much positivity it's amazing! I started drawing because of the artists in the community. You guys are the reason I draw and write, so thank you.

I remember going to the HDWGH Tour for my 15th birthday, and that was the best day of my life. The amount of positivity before, during, and after the show was amazing! I didn't know where everyone got their septic lights and felt left out, but I started talking with someone and they gave me theirs, which made my night honestly so much better. That was my first time cosplaying in public too, and I got compliments from a lot of people which did a lot for my self esteem.
