Hi! Love your TikTok translations, they help me learn so much. Sorry if you've answered this before already, but as a language student myself, I was just curious about how you got so good at Chinese - is it a native language for you, or what's your background in using/studying it? Thank you!
I think I answered this a long time ago (like 2021 maybe) so I will just tell it again. It's kind of a longwinded boring post that's very self-centric (😬) and also probably not going to have any helpful advice to the average language learner, so I'm going to put it under a read more!
Background
My family is Chinese so it's my heritage language. I did learn it before English as a baby but then forgot a lot of it. My parents speak Chinese at home but I always replied in English growing up. Part of this is because I have a twin sibling and because we spoke English at school, we also started speaking English to each other at home.
We went to Chinese school on Sundays growing up (this is like a community/cultural school; it included other courses like math, Chinese dance, art, pre-SATs (lol), etc, depending on who in the community was available to teach), but I didn't really pay attention so my Chinese was pretty shit for a long time—like broken conversational level shitty, although I have always had a strong comprehension ability. My dad's side is from Sichuan so I grew up understanding a bit of Sichuanese.
The beginning of my "studying"
I don't actually have much of a background studying Chinese in a formal setting. I took Chinese 101-103 in college as part of a language requirement (specifically chose to start with 101 so I could relearn basics, even though my teachers kept offering to place me in higher levels). I really credit my Chinese 101 prof who was also the college's calligraphy teacher for making us focus on brush stroke order and recognising characters and understanding semantic components, which is something other profs did not emphasise (they were more focused on building conversational skills).
Anyway, that was only my freshman year of college because I ended up changing majors and not having a language requirement anymore (boo). I continued studying a bit of Chinese in the intervening years, but I am not a very disciplined person when it comes to self-study, so much of it was just translating song lyrics for my own amusement. During this time, I also started watching some cdramas, but mostly just Chinese web shows, which maybe helped? (I don't think I was watching enough for it to really make a difference).
Fast forward a couple years to 2020 and I started watching more cdramas during lockdowns, including watching 成化十四年 (The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty), which I was super invested in for about two years (this used to be a fandom blog lol). Basically, hyperfixation led me to rapidly improve my Chinese; I started translating a few behind-the-scenes videos for fandom friends. In order to keep up with Chinese fans and gain access to more material about the show, I started venturing onto Chinese sites such as weibo, bilibili, and eventually, douyin, which I downloaded around October of 2020 (so this was 6 months into my increased interest into Chinese things). At first, I translated a couple of douyins to share with fandom friends as I had done with behind-the-scenes materials, but for whatever reason I felt like some of the videos I wanted to translate would just be annoying to spam into the chat... I couldn't figure out a way to connect them to the blorbos, but I still wanted to translate them, so I started posting them here on tumblr. That's how my douyin translations started out. This was the height of covid-19 related sinophobia, too, so at some point I started realising how important it was to continue translating douyins, and that motivated me to continue even beyond it just being a fun thing to do. On that topic, it was through this blog that I realised how poorly understood China and Chinese people are, specifically on this site. I feel like that has changed a lot, or maybe that's just a comment on insular online spaces, but I have to think not; since I started translating douyins, I've seen a noticeable decrease in sinophobic comments and messages (not that I don't still get them, but it's lessened), and I think that's also thanks in great part to other blogs on here that were posting/have started to post more content from China to help increase exposure to tumblr users.
Improving
In any case, in the beginning, I did a lot of translations mostly by ear rather than reading captions because my Chinese reading wasn't that good.
It's kind of slowly improved with time and repetitive reading, and over the last three years now, I've also gone through periods of taking notes and actively seeking out some vocab lists or grammar explanations... but it usually comes in the process of trying to translate something. My motivations in "studying" (it's more like "figuring out") Chinese is largely based on the simple desire to know what people are talking about... what they're joking about... what they're ranting about and roasting. Related: I also started reading fanfics in Chinese about a year ago. Some fics have been easier to read than others, but some of the best ones I've read were also the ones that challenged me the most, and which I had to take a lot of notes on while reading. I'll admit! There have been times where I just took a fic and dumped that sucker in google translate and have it read the Chinese to me, so I could just listen to it like a podfic. But even so, I would take notes, because I think my improvements in Chinese are heavily connected to my Chinese literacy.
Reading douyin comments and forums on douban or comment sections on bilibili has been one of the main ways that I've picked up on common phrases and characters. I often write things down but I do so more as a muscle memory practice, because I have never really been the sort of person who reads back notes (this was also how I studied in school, iirc). Branching out and translating things that are written in formal or non-colloquial styles is also a way I challenge myself from time to time, and I do like to look up the etymology of Chinese characters from time to time because it helps me pick up patterns of semantics and phonetic hints when I'm reading (this makes it easier to guess what a character might mean or sound like, even if you've never seen it before). Overall, translation has been the great learning tool for me. I think maybe it comes down to learning styles? I have always learned better from trying to teach others, and I feel like translation works a similar muscle in the mind; translation is about figuring out ways to efficiently communicate a message, and in order to do so, you must be able to grasp the essence of what it is you're relaying.
All this said... And to try and return to your original ask after all my usual Wawa rambling... I actually don't think my Chinese is that good, lol. In fact, there's probably people who follow this blog who are studying Chinese in a more conventional and methodical manner whose Chinese is objectively much better than mine 🤷🏻‍♂️ I mean, if you crunch the numbers, I have really only be self-"studying" for three years. Three years of what is really just vibe-based learning. There's a lot of vocab I still don't know (I mean my English vocab is pretty limited too, sooo.... 😭), a lot of areas that I can still improve on, and am improving on, and try to improve on... when the mood strikes. Again, I am not a very disciplined self-study type.
Maybe this will give any other Chinese diaspora hope, though. I feel like it's never too late for us to start learning. There is probably a seed or language foundation within you already which will make it easier for you to start, and then after that, I think it sort of comes down to finding what interests you and will keep you motivated.
Most of the stuff I talk about on here when it comes to culture or folk art or what have you, I did not know even five years ago! I learned about it because I was interested to find out more. (That's another reason I have to laugh when I get some of the asks I do in my inbox... The stuff I don't answer is dumbfounding at times. You translate a couple of funny videos and people think you're some kind of Tripadvisor cultural ambassador guy! I swear...)
The "study" resources I use regularly are the following:
Pleco
Zh-En browser extension
Yellowbridge (usually to check brush stroke order, since I have Pleco)
Baidu etymology pages / Chinese etymology dictionaries such as hanziyuan

Oh GOD you, too, are an online lectures geek pls consider this your invitation to talk about favs--ones that stuck with you, current obsessions--the more the better! In trade, I'll tell you the two things I'm currently adoring: Yale's Open Course podcast on The Civil War to Reconstruction done by David Blight (man forgot more than ten other civil war historians know even if he mumbles *constantly*) and A History of Christianity by Diarmaid MacCulloch (so! worth the Prime BBC free trial <3)
Hiya! Don't mind if I do!
So 99% of the lectures I've watched lately are on the Great Courses Plus which was recently and stupidly renamed "Wondrium", which I find profoundly stupid because instead of just saying, "Hey, check out the Great Courses, yeah you can kinda guess what the streaming service offers," I have to instead explain what this nonsense term "Wondrium" means, ANYWAY, they've got lectures about basically everything.
Essentially, it's Netflix but for college lectures. YouTube has become so unreliable as far as what's actual information and what's completely made up or even racist conspiracy theory BS that I find it completely untrustworthy. Also, most documentaries are trying to prove something new, or offer a new angle on something, OR they're SO rudimentary and 101 that even for topics I know less about in history I tend to already know everything they're going to say.
So I pivoted to college lectures because 1) it's a whole series so like, dozens of hours I can just throw on in the background while doing something mindless and 2) I know it's going to be trustworthy, reliable, and provide me a baseline on a topic instead of some "new controversial spin" on it. Like, goddammit, sometimes I just want to better understand the history of Ancient Egypt, not your stupid theory about how they were secretly all space aliens or that we've got the carbon dating all wrong or whatever made up nonsense.
So, here's a list of some of my favorites!
Hannibal: The Military Genius Who Almost Conquered Rome - I consider myself about as near an expert as a non-academic can get on Rome and this lecture actually taught me some things, which is rare, so I recommend it as a fantastic deep dive!
How the Crusades Changed History is a pretty good short version that I recommend to anyone who enjoyed The Old Guard's Nicky and Joe BUT, for the best Crusades lecture, I'd recommend this History of the Crusades podcast. Sharyn Eastaugh is not just insanely informative, but her dry wit made me laugh out loud at least once an episode at the sheer hapless ineptitude of the Crusaders.
In the Wake of the Plague is a fantastic new lecture by Wondrium, the lecturer is amazing and it provides a lot of objective insights into how humans react to plagues that is VERY relevant to current events, BUT their lecture on **The Black Death in general is the one that got me obsessed with their lecture series. I watched it in the first week of Covid lockdown and let me tell you, having this super in-depth, objective look into how people behaved during the Black Death was incredibly valuable (and chilling) going into those years because it all played out with astonishing similarity. Also, anything by that lecturer, Dorsey Armstrong, is awesome. She's a Medievalist of the highest order. I also recommend her lecture on King Arthur.
**The Birth of the Modern Mind: The Intellectual History of the 17th and 18th Centuries - this one wins the award for "Lecture I thought most likely to bore me to tears that ended up being the single most fascinating I've heard in YEARS." Seriously, the way it explores the evolution of how we think in the modern era, through the philosophers who first conceived of these ideas, was jaw-droppingly fascinating. I also recommend it to writers of historical fiction and fantasy for a crash course, by proxy, of how to write people who think differently than you.
The Other Side of History: Daily Life in the Ancient World - I once had beef with a post here on Tumblr that claimed that academic Classicists don't care about slaves or normal people during the Roman Empire, which is just profoundly absurd. I pointed out this lecture to them if they actually wanted to learn more about the subject instead of complaining that an art history professor may not have been prepped for a lecture about the lives of enslaved people in Ancient Rome. If that is a subject of interest, this lecture is great.
The Real History of Pirates - a must-listen for OFMD fans who want to get an introduction to historical pirates and the history of pirates in literature, which "Our Flag Means Death" owes as much if not more to than the historical figures.
**Turning Points in Middle Eastern History - One of the first lectures I listened to and still one of my enduring favorites. It's the first one I picked up for writing my Old Guard fic, Lights Out, when I wanted to write Joe from a more informed angle and I learned so much.
Understanding Japan: A Cultural History - One of my favorite lectures based on format, the lecturer picks a literary work or cultural concept as the entry point to explore the timeline of Japanese history. It's a fantastic way to give a wider and more holistic look at each era, pairing it with a cultural touchstone.
Shout-out to "The Mysterious Etruscans" because I just think they're neat. The lecturer is also very good and I highly recommend his lecture on ancient cities as well which taught me a lot that I didn't know.
Also a shout out to, "Warriors, Queens, and Intellectuals: 36 Great Women before 1400" for its subject and the lecturer who is great and she also has a really fascinating talk about the history of Spain.
Ok, I THINK that's some of the top ones! ;D

Along with the valid points made that asking some famous person "may I have permission to write RPF about you/fantasize about you?" is wayyyyy creepier and way closer to actual harassment than just writing fanfiction about them somewhere else privately, this ask is just completely bonkers.
I'm a fanfiction writer and reader who largely doesn't care for RPF. It's just not my thing, I had a good friend who was mildly Internet famous in the early part of the last decade where seeing the degree to which the fandom behind the video making collective he was in obsessed over their real life relationships under the guise of "shipping" kind of burned me out on that forever. Still, I don't judge people who are into that, I know most RPF writers and readers are not like the people my friend dealt with, and I also know the culture around all that has changed a lot in the past decade or so. It's just, you know, when your first association with something is the worst version of it, it's hard to get that out of your emotional experience with it even if you logically know those people are not representative of the group. Anyway.
All of that was just to establish that I find it extremely easy not to read RPF. I just don't look for it. I check AO3 around daily, but I look for the fandoms I'm into, and avoid the rest. It's that simple!
I imagine it's just as easy for your average celebrity to avoid RPF the same way: by just not looking for it.
Of course, some fans might be creepy and tweet it at them or something. But THAT is where it crosses the line over into harassment: that they are doing the digital equivalent of shoving it in that person's face. If they just write it somewhere where that person can't see it, congratulations, that's not harassment!
Also, your mental fantasies are always your own private business. Jesus Christ. Would you ask a non-famous person you're crushing on "permission" to have those feelings? A lot of how you "interact with" famous people is just treating them like anyone else.
That sort of thing really makes me think that some of you have forgotten Social Skills 101 at some point during the lockdown. And I thought that my autistic ass's social skills were lacking, sheesh
--
Yuuuup. I was just at a girl's' weekend with someone very mildly internet famous who always reads RPF of herself if she finds it and describes it as "weird and uncomfortable", but even she is like "just archive lock it on ao3 instead of putting it on twitter or something".
Most of the z-list internet celebrities are perfectly capable of not clicking and mainly don't want to know. And a really famous celebrity is probably not hanging out in quite the same places anyway.

could you elucidate on why coffeelocks are bad actually? my friend is a bit obsessed with them right now and i’ve never liked the specific build but i’d love to have concrete reasons that aren’t just opinions!
YES. Somewhere in my archives I think I actually did the math on like, how many short rests you have to take for this to pay any dividends, and it was a LOT, but that was during full lockdown iirc and you do not have to do this much work.
The basic gist of coffeelock for those wondering is that warlocks recharge spell slots on a short rest, and sorcerers can convert sorcery points into spell slots and vice versa. The idea is that if you take Pact of the Tome and then Aspect of the Moon as an eldritch invocation, you never have to long rest again and can just farm sorcery points/spell slots for 8 hours each night.
Now: the most obvious issue is that any reasonable DM who hears about this will look at you and say "I don't care if it's technically legal, I think it's annoying and I'm not going to let you do it." But let's assume your DM does not shut it down.
You have infinite spell slots at level 5. You are warlock 3 sorcerer 2. You know 7 spells total, which is what you'd know had you leveled to level 5 in either of these classes, except you also know 6 level 1 spells and 1 level 2 spell, max. Someone who leveled normally would have fireball, or dispel magic, or counterspell, and if they were divine soul they might even have revivify, but not you! This will eventually get slightly better at higher levels but if you're the party's main arcane caster this sucks and if you're in a party with fewer than like, five people, or perhaps a really caster heavy party, you're putting a lot of burden on other people to do the utility early on so that your dumb ass can cast magic missile 20 times a day or whatever.
I don't actually care for sorlock just generally, in the absence of coffeelock bullshit. Yes, it depends on the same main stat, but a bard or paladin combo will actually significantly broaden your repertoire. Sorcerer and Warlock have a LOT of spell overlap, and metamagic is one of those things that is like, super clutch 0.1% of the time and the rest of the time it's like oh ok (though I guess as a coffeelock you're not even really using metamagic! total waste of being a sorcerer, which is the weakest caster already! great job.). Meanwhile, two of the big strengths of warlock are 1. eldritch blast, a cantrip you can already cast infinite times without spell slots, and 2. eldritch invocations, which you have to level in warlock to get. Dipping into sorcerer means fewer invocations. Basically, all multiclassing is a trade off and I feel like this is at most the sum of its parts, certainly not more. I also think it's very tricky to play this in a way that is narratively interesting and makes sense for your character while also abiding by the specific leveling requirements of coffeelock. This isn't an issue in a one-shot but also in a one-shot you simply might not even take a long rest which renders the entire thing useless.
You have to take Pact of the Tome, which means you are spending all this time and effort and build for infinite spell slots but also you have, without any racial bonuses, literally 9 cantrips (ie, at-will spells) at level 5. And none of them are dispel magic, because that is too high for you for at least another 2 levels and that's only if you choose to continue in warlock. Also, actually, until you reach L9 in specifically divine soul sorcerer, you don't have greater restoration as discussed, so yeah your DM can just be like "oh you don't have to sleep but you do still gain exhaustion."
I lied and I did some math. So: you are a L5 coffeelock. let's say you have exhausted all your resources on day 1. You sit down for your little bullshit 8 short rests. You can never have more than two sorcery points, because the PHB page 101 says that you can't exceed the number of sorcery points shown on the table for your level. So every hour you convert one L2 spell slot (recharging) into a L1 spell slot (non-recharging), and repeat this (you can't convert both at once! because then you exceed two sorcery points!) and you end the night with 14 L1 spells and your two L2 warlock spell slots. If you are lucky, you might get like, one short rest if there is a monk or wizard or fighter in the party and they don't hate you so much that they're willing to go without ki points/second winds/arcane recovery, and they might. I guess you just stockpile low level spells indefinitely until you have to sleep finally? if you have a week of downtime do you just. walk around with hundreds of first level spell slots and not think this is the dumbest shit of all time? ooooh look at me i can cast fucking...detect magic for 24 hours straight. can't dispel any of it though!
Leveling up is a bitch too if I recall. You need to level up in sorcerer to get more points so you can eventually convert to higher level spells, and the exchange rate is not generous (like, if you're not sleeping, it's ok, but it's not in your favor as shown with the L2 to L1 conversion) and imo warlock is the superior class, and you're probably not really taking advantage of metamagic anyway so you're barely reaping the benefits of being a sorcerer except for flexible casting. Do you feel good about this? Is this fun for you? Your entire table is watching you count out your spell slots each night and hoping fervently you get audited by the IRS in real life but man you sure showed them by being able to cast chromatic orb a lot!
Also you can't use items that recharge on a long rest, only ones that recharge at dawn. Sucker.
This is all very long because I think coffeelock is an annoying build for people who think they are smart and really aren't, but the gist is that you trade away a great deal of your utility, ability to help the party, and ability to do anything except cast rather low-level spells in comparison to what everyone who made better decisions is doing. Also it's LAUGHABLY easy for the DM to fuck this over for you within the bounds of the rules even if they allowed it. Your patron gets annoyed that you're only leveling in sorcerer. Levels of exhaustion. Your patron, who communicates through dreams, straight up abandons you because you're not picking up their calls. You keep being put in positions where your 75 first level spells won't do shit and a single third level spell would. They taunt you with items that recharge on a long rest.
It's just...well, quantity over quality. Shein haul ass character build.

Hi!! I haven't been keeping up with six as much recently, could you explain the UK standardising covers thing a bit more?
Hey! Yes! However I am going to slightly hijack this ask and give a broader “UK alt system 101” because I’ve been getting a lot of asks about it recently.
First covers (fully standardized) Prior to lockdown and with the first cast returning from lockdown, UK casts of Six would just choose alt covers based on the queens they had and what worked best. Saw combos like A/P, S/H, B/C; A/C, B/H, S/P; A/H, B/C, S/P. Starting in fall 2021, every new UK cast has used an alt system with A/C, B/H, and S/P, and then swing(s).
Second covers (not standardized) Prior to Covid they had used two different second cover systems: #1. What I call the "consistent" cover system, where if someone is first cover B/C then someone else is going to be second cover B/C and someone else third B/C. This was used by the 2019-21 West End cast. Example: Zara MacIntosh: 1st A/H, 2nd B/C, 3rd S/P Cherelle Jay: 1st B/C, 2nd S/P, 3rd A/H Hana Stewart: 1st S/P, 2nd A/H, 3rd B/C #2. What I call the "scrambled" cover system, where if someone is first cover B/C then one of the other alts is second cover B/? and the other is C/?. This one was used by the 2019 West End alts... Courtney Stapleton: 1st A/P, 2nd S/C, 3rd B/H Vicki Manser: 1st B/C, 2nd H/P, 3rd A/S Grace Mouat: 1st S/H, 2nd A/B, 3rd C/P ...and the 2019-22 UK Tour alts: Cassandra Lee: 1st A/C, 2nd S/H, and 3rd B/P Jennifer Caldwell: 1st B/H, 2nd A/P, 3rd S/C Harriet Watson: 1st S/P, 2nd B/C, 3rd A/H This system is generally better from a coverage/management perspective, which I talked about here.
When they came back from lockdown they initially seemed to have standardized to the consistent system. The 21-22 WE followed it: Paisley Billings: A/C, S/P, B/H Danielle Rose: B/H, A/C, S/P Roxanne Couch: S/P, B/H, A/C as did the 22-23 UKT, formally anyway (may have followed a different one informally): Grace Melville: A/C, B/H, S/P Leesa Tulley: B/H, S/P, A/C Natalie Pilkington: S/P, A/C, B/H but the 22-23 WE started following a scrambled again: Monique Ashe-Palmer: A/C, B/P, S/H Danielle Rose: B/H, A/S, C/P Leah Vassell: S/P, C/H, A/B and the 23-23 UKT now is too: Ellie Jane Grant: A/C, P/?, S/? Izi Maxwell: B/H, S/C, A/P Tamara Anne Morgan: S/P, A/?, C/?
I'm guessing they will try to continue using scrambled in the future because of the coverage benefits, but we'll see.
Swings
The West End uses two swings. Each of them have three primary covers, but also cover the other three commonly enough as needed.
The UK Tour just has one swing, who covers all six roles technically equally (but just like with all prior swings there does still seem to be some sort of unofficial priority/preferred roles).
Costumes The alts have principal-style costumes for their first covers. If/when they cover 2nd or 3rd covers, they wear an alt costume:
Tumblr media
(Pictured: Paisley Billings, Danielle Rose, Leah Vassell) A/C wears teal, B/H wears orange, and S/P wears pink. There's only one consistent variation: teal is always pants w/ peplum, orange is always pants w/ peplum, and pink is always the standard A/H.
The swings wear regular swing costumes for all six costumes. Those are black and silver:
Tumblr media
(Pictured: Rachel Rawlinson, Esme Rothero; Rachel Aragon photo by Pamela Raith)
The single UK Tour swing wears silver. For the West End, the second alt is added in black. They each get multiple variations as pictured, although for the UK Tour the swing does not have a Boleyn skirt. These Cleves costumes also don’t have a reveal.

I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for, or how 101 I should get with this (please forgive me in advance if this is stuff you already know), but some things that make me absolutely feral about Peterick are:
*Patrick originally auditioned to be the band's drummer, but after hearing Patrick sing for the first time, Pete immediately shut that idea down and made him the singer. Patrick sees himself as a composer before anything else, and he only sings because Pete saw his talent, and needed someone to help share his words.
* Patrick suffered from intense stage fright early on, and so Pete gave him a knit hat (the one you see on the "Take This To Your Grave" cover) to wear as a security blanket, and cover his eyes; As we all know, hats have been a part of Patrick's stage wardrobe ever since! Patrick's stage fright is also the reason why Pete does most of the talking onstage. Patrick has said both of them have qualities the other lacks, and so they essentially make up one person in the group.
* And let's not forget their whole writing dynamic! Since "Take This To Your Grave", Pete basically gives his diary entries to Patrick in the form of poetry, full of all his pain and joy, and Patrick is in charge of turning those words into music. Essentially, they're always writing for each other!
* Naturally, more than a few of the lyrics Pete writes are about Patrick himself. Most of it is conjecture, of course, as Pete rarely says exactly who his words are about, but two of the times Pete has broken that rule, has been to say that he had Patrick in mind: "What A Catch, Donnie", which he wrote to remind Patrick how incredible he is (this was their last single before they went on indefinite hiatus, which makes me cry all the time!), and the line "I am half-doomed, and you're semi-sweet" from "Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes" (On Genius, Pete said "This can be anyone you feel that close to. Sometimes it's a girl, but honestly sometimes it was Patrick")
* There were two times in the band's history, where their future was uncertain: When they went on hiatus after "Folie A Deux," due to infighting, and the Pandemic, when everyone was in lockdown and Pete wasn't sure if he wanted to return to the studio. After "Folie", Patrick made a solo album called Soul Punk, but was heartbroken when it didn't sell well, and fans just kept comparing it to FOB. Pete reached out to him after an incredibly painful blog post he wrote then later took down, and said "You know what you need? You need your band", which is what brought about their glorious surprise return in 2013, and the album "Save Rock and Roll". Patrick returned the favor almost a decade later, when COVID made Pete afraid to leave his house. Patrick knew that if he was excited about writing new music, Pete would be too, and so he started working on what would be "So Much (For) Stardust". Patrick was right, and they started writing together again, for their first album in 4 years. The rest, as they say, is history...
I could honestly go on forever, but these two are living proof soul mates exist, and I will never stop being emotional about them!
holy SHIT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU FOR THIS. anon if you end up seeing this PLEASE feel free to dm me and go into more depth/add anything/rant because this is fucking incredible and i cant repay you for this

Threecount Exchange fic (no you will not get details mwahaha)
The final installment of the House of Black Magic series, which is also my final square on my Bingo Board
Days 10-31 of the December Prompt Challenge I for some reason made for myself, which includes the finale of a series (I shan't disclose which)
At least 4 more installments in the Matt Experiments universe
The teacher's AU I've been putting off for about a year
Writing reflection
What a frickin' year. I haven't been in a fandom like this since Scorpion which, for those who know, ended poorly for both the whole fandom and me as a person. I was unable to watch the season 4 premiere due to my Dad's death, and then it got cancelled before I could catch up. Jumping back into a fandom head first, after how miserable my last one ended, was scary but incredible.
I beat NaNoWriMo 3 times in one year for the first time since 2016. I wrote two novella length fics and a novel length fic from December 2022 until now. I've made friends with incredible people, learned how to use tumblr in a way that keeps me safe, and learned that I've grown past the person I was when I let other people drive me out of a fandom for writing fic in a way I enjoyed and being autistic. I feel safe in this fandom, not for the lack of drama (lord knows there's plenty of it), but because I've created for myself a space where I know I can trust the people I follow.
I am excited to vault headfirst into 2024. I have no predictions. I have no expectations. I just have hope, and I think that's enough.
But I really do hope I can keep writing, even if it's at a different pace from 2023.

Yu Yu Hakusho Random Headcannons
because I love this series too much 🫶
Tumblr media
• If lockdown ever came to these guys, I feel like Yusuke would be the type to stay inside and play video games with Kuwabara.
• You will 101% hear this man scream from his room thousands of cuss words as he does his gaming.
• Why do I feel like Yusuke would be really into games like Overwatch and Valorant and had to beg his mom to buy it for him but she couldn’t.
• So yk what he did? He begged Koenma. All he had to do was kick demon ass.
• Yusuke is most likely to forget putting on a damn mask when he does out.
• “It looks nerdy”
• Meanwhile, Kuwabara would just be playing with his cat and watch cat videos while in quarantine and Shizuru is just contemplating on why she couldn’t smoke anymore due to the lockdown.
• No, like seriously, Kuwabara would be spending the whole day with his cat without a damn.
• Unless he brought Yukina over and his whole attention would be diverted to her.
• He’d be having a mental breakdown on why he couldn’t see Yukina anymore cuz he’s trapped in his damn house.
• Most likely doesn’t know how to use Zoom properly, if you’re ever in an online class with this dude he’ll have his mic unmuted and won’t know about it.
• Kurama on the other hand would be so calm about the entire lockdown and pandemic thing.
• I mean this guy is so fcking calm what did y’all expect
• He would most likely consume his time by gardening, reading or just doing anything that’s productive.
• This man meditates frfr
• Kurama has garden gnomes and you CANNOT fight with me on that.
• He’s most likely to wear his FULL uniform while attending online class.
• Other students would just wear their top uniform cuz this is online class we’re talking about, but Kurama just goes full effort and puts his pants on too.
• Hiei would be absolutely unaffected by the pandemic.
• I mean he’s a demon—
• He’d just walk into the Human World and then see everyone with masks and the streets almost empty and he’d be like “wtf”
• If that was the case, the first place he’d go to is to Kurama’s
• And then Kurama would give him a full briefing on the pandemic
• And Hiei just calls everyone pathetic for dying to something you couldn’t even see with the naked eye and lists it down on his long ahh list on “why humans are pathetic”
• Yusuke would most likely make a gc with these guys because he’s bored asf in quarantine
• The gc would consist of Yusuke and Kuwabara doing the most random crap and memes.
• Kurama is the group’s therapist frfr
• I can already imagine Kurama and Kuwabara in a video call with Kuwabara ranting on why he can’t see Yukina because of lockdown and Kurama just listening intently.
• Koenma is obv stressing out because demons are out doing shenanigans and the spirit detective is trapped in his damn house.
• Kurama is most likely to send those fancy “Good morning” GIFs in the gc.
• I can imagine Hiei in a videocall with Kurama and Hiei is constantly choppy because who tf can find good wifi in Demon World?

Turkish dramas 🦋
Tumblr media
Okay, alright, as someone who truly believes that the world is filled with so many entertaining stories and shows that all need to be explored regardless of whether they're in different languages or not ( and I think that if you don't watch something because you're reading subtitles, you're missing out) I mean there are so many pros to exploring other cultures and languages.
Now that I am done with my little rant todays focus will be in Turkish dramas I recommend.
The difference in Turkish dramas compared to the rest of the other dramas I’ve watched like ( k dramas/ Korean dramas, Brazilian-dramas, telenovelas and more …) is probably just how entertaining they are without further ado my top recommended Turkish dramas
1. Hercai
The drama was recommended right smack in the middle of lockdown, so let's just say it saved me from boredom! In my opinion, this is the best Turkish drama I've ever watched. The storyline was amazing and filled with plot twists and crazy storylines. You'll never get bored watching it for a moment. You end up falling for the characters and getting caught up in Hercai's world. 10/10
Tumblr media
summary
Miran is seeking revenge for his parents death so he plans to marry daughter Reyyan from the family who was responsible for that. unexpectedly he falls in love with Reyyan.
2. Adim Farah
Tumblr media
alright running second is Adim Farah is the most recent drama, I've watched and oh my soul it's amazing its got action, comedy and a beautiful love story and if you're a big fan of a bit of mystery as well. 10/10 ( second season coming soon)
summary: farah is a 28 year old Iranian woman who works illegally as a cleaner in istanbul and witnesses a crime commited by the mafia her life takes a huge turn
3. ask 101(love 101)
Tumblr media
Someone said summer, yeah, this is the one. This show is two seasons and is a gripping story of friendship, love, and coming of age. 8/10
summary: love 101 ( ask 101) is a Turkish teen drama, that follows a group of 17-year-old misfits who set their mind on keeping their favourite teacher in town through a whole lot of scheming.
4. midnight at pera palace
Tumblr media
It's so good, I binge-watched the whole series in one go. It's giving mystery, it's giving suspense, and it's giving what it needs to 9/10
summary: a young journalist, Esra’s encounter with the legendary Pera Palace Hotel in Istanbul. When Esra is assigned to write a piece about the hotel, she accidentally discovers that one of the historic rooms is a portal to the year 1919. Thrust into the past, she lands in the middle of a political conspiracy against the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Together with Ahmet, the quirky hotel manager, Esra must protect the course of history and the future of Turkey. But Istanbul in 1919 is a dangerous place, and when Esra meets Halit, the handsome and mysterious owner of Istanbul’s wildest club, she realizes that in the Istanbul of 1919, nothing is as it seems and no one is who they say.
5. Who were we running from ( Biz kimden kaçiyorduk Anne)
Tumblr media
Another thriller packed drama, with a while lot of mystery overall you will not regret watching although trigger warning things can get intense. 7/10
Summary: mother and her young daughter Bambi are on the run, away from someone, staying in luxury hotels, keeping on the move, leaving a trail of bodies behind…
Alrighty folks that’s just the few of my fav recommendations !! I hope you enjoy 🙂
There’s many more recommendations 🤭to come

Emergency lockdown initiated. Retention of vitals prioritized. Destruction of retrievable samples incomplete despite final warnings. Any signal lost. Low possibility of a proper retrieval in standard response time.
Here's hoping no one finds us after we die, right? That’d be all kinds of unpleasant.

This Shall Be A New Horizon incompassestated. Finally. You Could Use A Second Opinion. Still dead.
I am not going to use these final moments to waste time considering if I care about that or not. Decoy signal set, reception: unknown. Shit: Fucked. Starting to come to the rapid conclusion that no one’s getting out of this one alive. Somehow this is still a surprise despite the fact that it was literally the most obvious thing to happen.

This Shall Be A New Horizon might have noticed something is wrong with the fact that You Could Use A Second Opinion is dead. The banging on the helm would suggest that they’ve definitely realized something is wrong. To be fair to me, anything could have killed them.
And to be fair to This Shall Be A New Horizon, it was definitely us who killed him.
Helm doors secured and reinforced. Bond Helm shield power charged. He shouldn’t be able to

Okay, things have progressed very fast very suddenly, gonna start recording just in case. Update from the last set of logs, You Could Use A Second Opinion is dead. This might be exactly the plan but also I’m starting to wonder if the plan was a bad idea. Countdown until someone else notices. Hoping to get us into a sun before then.

[TMI Tuesday] What got you interested in all the history stuff?
Woops this was alraedy answered here, but this does give me the opportuntiy to talk about when I got interested on studying other points of history XD
Philippine History - So initially my interest were just about World War 2 and mainly the European theatre of that war. However, I ended up buying Ambeth Ocampo's 101 Stories on the Philippine Revolution and that got me started in learning more about Philippine history. I was never interested in Philippine history initially, beucause I never really thought my country did much. But now, after learning so much, I am amazed at the many things the Philippines has done and is not talked about in schools!
Roman History - Okay, anyone who follows me knows I'm addicted to the Roman Empire. And anyone on the Discord server knows that I will end up conducting a whole history lecture on the Roman Empire if someone mentions anything related to it. But here's the interesting thing, I wasn't so much into Roman history until recently. Sure, I've watched the History Channel's Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire back in 2010, read a couple of historical fiction books on it over the past decade, and although I though it was all cool, I wasn't too passionate on the subject.
But then came 2020 and the lockdown, with me bored and going around Youtube to search for anything intersting to watch. That's when I saw HistoryMarche's video on the Battle of Dyrrachium during Caesar's Civil War. I was impressed not only with Caesar but also how the Roman legions fight.
Ever since then I couldn't stop learning more and more about Roman history. Even ended up writing a fanfic where a Roman legion gets transported to Equestria but we don't need to talk about that.

Day 13 is coming to your house!
Thine drawing is from one year ago! It is located on thine UndertaleAU Amino.
This one’s a drawing of Chara and Frisk. Apparently I only did it ‘cause it won a poll. Drawings 101.
I basically just made Frisk and Chara closer to the soul. So yeah your welcome.
Side note: today was so scary my school was on lockdown for like three hours
