I hate the term fangirl. Not the term itself but how it is used to offend people. The word girl itself is used in this patriarchic society to diminish young women. We are considered to be dumb, not capable, irresponsible, toxic etc. Because you are a woman and you are young you cannot have a valid opinion in this society. I have seen in f1 the term fangirl to be used to describe female fans as the enemy of motorsport. Like fangirls destroy drivers or fangirls only watch because of dts or their boyfriends (quite heteronormative btw). It doesn't matter why I watch the sport or not. I am a woman and I am a fan, that doesn't make me any better or worse than you. There are too many sexist bullshit in this world already and I do not expect the motorsport community not to be sexist. But it is tiring. I am already in a male-dominated field in uni, I like music that in mostly listened to by men, I love sports. And you know what, for all three I am either too dumb or too beautiful. I am a motorsport fangirl and I love the fact that I piss you off. It means you feel threatened by my presence and you know what I've felt threatened by men my whole life, it is fun to reverse it for once. With all due respect fuck you. That's for every motorsport fan who can't stand the fact that women have the same interests as them.
