hey dsmp people, if you've been here since Dec 2020 and voted in Tubbo's twitter poll on whether to exile Tommy, could you rb this with which way you voted and why? I'm intrigued.

I love the idea of Logstedshire being subtly supernatural. Like it's a forest/beaches during winter so of course it's pretty barren and cold right now... but even then there's something off putting about it. And most of it is just due to the harsh climate but still... Like the Hotel from the shining I guess I could say. Like the area itself is disturbed. During the day the buzzing of the mosquitoes is relentless and maddening. They descend in swarms on the uncovered flesh of any warmblooded creature unlucky enough to be out and about. They're as ubiquitous as birdsong after a certain point. The beach doesn't have sand. It has pebbles and gravel and rocks, all various shades of gray. They cut at the bare skin of your feet. At least the frostbite in your fingers and toes all but assures you won't feel the stinging cuts. The sea is also gray, it's dark and murky and it feels like it's calling you with each wave on the shore. And somehow you can tell, This Place Hates You.

Just watched Jimmy’s newest episode and first of all go watch it it’s great and second of all I’M SCARED.
Everyone’s saying “oh it’s villain arc time! Time to watch the small man have his vengeance and eat it too!” (what am I even saying) And while it will most likely happen, which I’ll enjoy thoroughly, I hesitate to call it right now. For I have flashbacks…
For a time not long before, where we all desired a “villain arc” for a character who, like Jimmy, was never treated with respect. So when given the option, we proudly begged to put this character where he had no other choice but to go against his values and put himself first for once…
A seemingly perfect recipe for some well deserved chaos…
WELL BOY HOWDY WE WERE WRONG

the one place in the dream smp that will NEVER fail to give me the chills is pogtopia
don't get me wrong, logsted is eerie enough, with the buildings blown up and the one-block tower; but that is largely because we know of the horrors that happened there, of what ctommy had to go through. without the context, it might pass off as some sort of relic, like ruins from the past.
pogtopia instead is just unsettling on its own: starting from the fact that it was build in a cave, hidden from the main hub so that others couldn't find it. then you get to the decorations and the things built by its inhabitants: the small rooms that would make most claustrophobic, the precarious stairs and bridges (for lack of better wording lol) that ran across the place, the hastily built pit where cbedrock bros fought (which, for all we know, could still have some remnants from that fight in-universe).
then you have the dim lighting, the buttons all around and the multiple passageways that ctommy and the others created to travel from one place to another: all of this already made it somewhat unsettling when the characters still lived there, but now that it's been abandoned for so long pogtopia has become downright ominous.
time has only turned that cave more frightening, and even if a newcomer didn't know the history behind it, they would 100% get the feeling that something is clearly wrong with that place.

DSMP Place-Name Suffixes and Meanings
kind of maybe accidentally some prose? I DIDNT MEAN TO I SWEAR
L’manberg and Manberg———
The suffix, “-berg,” or, “-burg,” comes from the German word for castle or fortress. Since many castles ended up becoming starting points for greater civilization/urbanization, the suffix became almost a synonym for city.
L’manberg was a small patch of land, defined by it’s towering walls. It was built with the intent of protecting its inhabitants. It evolved, over time, to be a sprawling mess of homes and shops, roads and churches, museums, plazas- it grew to be a town. Open without it’s walls, a fortress no longer. Then, a crater. The citizens it swore to protect having fled, having abandoned it if they could, lest they help bring it down.
Pogtopia———————————
“Topia,” essentially just means any geographical place. It isn’s a civilization, town, city, anything, just a place. It could also be used to indicate a paradise.
This name feels like a sick irony. It was just a place. First, it was a campaign, a political group aiming for their version of utopia. Then, it was a ravine. It was a time period, defined only by it’s geographical separation from home. It devolved, festering mania and unwellness, self destruction and spiraling, all the while bearing the name of paradise.
Snowchester-————————-
When a place-name ends in -chester, it indicates a military camp or fort. Chester meaning, “place of soldiers.”
Snowchester itself was a last-ditch attempt at safety. It’s secluded and armed, the base of operations for nuclear weaponry. Truly, it was a place of soldiers. A place of Tubbo and Jack, two weary and sharp war veterans, trying to feel safe. Equally, it was a place of protection and family. Of, “I will be strong so you can be safe.”
Logstedshire-————————
Stead means, “enclosed pasture,” in Old English. A place-name ending in, “shire,” indicates that it is owned or governed by a government official. It is also the French word for, “county.” The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a shire as, “a town where a court of superior jurisdiction…sits.”
Logstedshire; an enclosed pasture. A plains biome, sprawling and open, but so muted. So closed. Confined. Trapped. A place of harsh discipline, with a, “superior jurisdiction,” looming over its lonely occupant. How mocking to call it a county, an extension of a homeland, when it’s sole purpose was to be separate from it. Enclosed pasture, ruled by a superior jurisdiction, with a feeble string tying it to L’manberg in the form of the title, “county.” Enclosed forevermore, harboring the abuse like a time capsule, ash and dust undisturbed.
Boomerville and Rutabagville—
“-ville,” is a suffix used to indicate a village/town, or in the Middle Ages, a farming community.
Two towns, built for the purpose of getting away from the chaos, of having a small, peaceful land. Built so the few inhabitants could say, “I live here, I work here, the sun is gentle on my front porch.” So far out of the way that no one would notice if they just…disappeared. No one would bother check. One town abandoned, one town robbed. Both lay empty, at the end of the day.

Tommy agreed to go to Logstedshire because he thought it would cheer Wilbur up. He went to the place where he had the worst memories ever, he faced his fears just for his brother.
Wilbur was ready to sacrifice himself, to go back to limbo (the place that didn't and wouldn't do any good for him) if it meant Tommy would be safe and free from Dream.
Those two love each other so much. They are ready to do anything to help one another.
The problem is that they don't know how to help themselves.

actually yeah Logstedshire deserves its own section because God, that is the only faction/territory c!Tommy has ever made.
It was the only one he ever made and it was because he was exiled and no one else lived there.
on the wiki it only has allies labelled.
It exists for 11 days before it’s not even dissolved, it’s blown up.
God.

hm, for pitdd worldbuilding, how about Exile? what went down there?
c!Tommy was exiled as in canon, and in fact not much diverges until the actual start of Exile, however I shifted the timeline a lot, so now exile lasts about a month. ( November 30th to January 1st) when c!Tommy finally makes a break for Techno's cabin.) I wanted to make exile a bit longer, because it does contain a lot in terms of plot advancement. Also I am horrible with keeping things chronologically neat, so preserving November 16th is as best as I am really gonna do lmao. Where Tommy would end up going was left ambiguous by Dream, as he only mentioned, "northeast of the L'manberg habour." c!Tommy ends up being dragged for 3 fucking days across the unnamed at that point sea and then made a sudden, sharp turn upwards- towards the rocky cold beach shores and sparsely wooded meadows of Logstedshire. (Disclaimer, I am absolutely horrible with locations and directions. Awful. So the Dream SMP map and geography has been slightly altered, I try to stick as close to canon as I can while trying to make it more realistic) This area bordered on a subartic tundra, making growing food hard even in the best of times due to the lack of resources, nutrient poor and rocky soils, and lack of Fresh water. Even further northeast, was Techno's base (which fell in the gray area of claimed Dream SMP lands) Now in PITDD, Logstedshire was already an established place by the time it fell under Dream's command shortly before Exile itself. The town which sat on the very edge of the shores, just past where hightide would sweep it away? A very old, nearly abandoned town of less than a dozen (yes we have dsmp citizens just to flesh this goddamn server out) residents. Tommy and Dream made a very quick stop in town to get supplies for him, before taking Tommy further west along the coast, to an even higher area slightly more inland, where c!Tommy would make camp. Tommy just like in canon, regularly had his things blown up, including eventually even the items Dream had allowed him to keep that he bought in Logstedshire proper. A lot of Tommy's time without Dream was spent trying not to die of hypothermia, digging around for seafood during low tide, and trying to maintain a fire with what wood he did have. He was visited as in canon, although most of the times he was yoinked from his beach to the actual town before hand which gave the impression c!Tommy was at least staying in an actual house instead of jackshit nowhere. c!Tommy however, memorizes the route into the town, and uses it to get more food and water without Dream's knowledge. He also befriends a local, MD. (I will not fucking say Mexican Dream more than I have too.) There's also the whole plotline of c!Tommy drowning in the ocean, I have a post about that somewhere, but basically it ties in with c!Dream's origin story. :) Also in PITDD, nobody else can 'see' ghostbur. Only c!Tommy can see him at all times, and he has the ability to make Ghostbur visible for short amounts of time to other people (although this is very draining for c!Tommy to do)
