Modern Heathenry 101
Hi folks! I've updated my blog to include a heathenry 101 tag. I also worked on summarizing how I view modern heathenry from a US-based, progressive perspective:
Who is allowed to practice heathenry?
Everyone!  Heathenry is not a closed practice.  Regardless of your gender, age, orientation, race, cultural background, physical or mental abilities, or any other factor–you are welcome, appreciated, and loved by the gods.
What is heathenry?
Heathenry is an animistic belief system where we honor our ancestors, gods within the Norse pantheon, and the elemental spirits all around us.  There is no one centralized heathen faith, and traditions will vary largely depending on community, region, and era.  There are no sacred texts, though many heathens read the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda to get an introduction to our gods (as they are depicted in myths and sagas).
Who do you worship?
Details vary based on the individual or community, but generally speaking heathens honor gods within the Norse pantheon.
This pantheon includes: Odin, Frigg/Freyja, Freyr, Thor, Tyr, Njord, Loki, Hel, and many more.  Each of these figures is dynamic and cannot be boiled down to a simple “god of ___” label.  Some heathens exclusively worship patron deities to whom they feel a special connection and sense of dedication, while other heathens maintain relationships with numerous deities.
Ancestor work can be general or highly specific.  Heathens may offer prayers to the Disir, female spirits of the family who help carry traditions, memories, and connections alive throughout the generations.  Heathens may also opt to honor individual ancestors with whom they share a strong connection.  In any instance, it is love not blood which constitutes ancestry.  Many heathens feel drawn to honor “cultural” ancestors rather than blood-relatives (example: a heathen who is Black or LGBTQIA+ may feel drawn towards honoring a deceased activist or fellow community member).
What are some things which constitute a modern practice?
Many heathens practice group ritual while others are solitary.  Every group will follow different traditions but common ones include:
holiday rituals
symbels (opportunities to toast one another and our accomplishments)
blots (specialized rituals dedicated to a specific deity)
ceremonies (weddings, funerals, and things of that nature)
In their day-to-day lives heathens will often wear a Mjolnir pendant as a reminder of the gods’ most prized gift and the source of their protector’s strength (Thor’s hammer).
Heathens will typically have at least one altar space in their homes.  This can be used to honor deities, ancestors, or other figures.  Altars vary dramatically in terms of appearance–some are minimalist and simple while others are lavishly decorated.  This depends largely on personal preference, budget, availability of materials, and personal security (unfortunately, some heathens cannot safely set up an altar in their current living situation).  Another option is the use of a pocket-altar, sometimes called a travel-altar.
What holidays do you observe?
Holidays historically varied depending on location.  Typically these holidays relate to concepts of growth, gratitude, and reflection. There is not one set list of holidays which all heathens celebrate, but there do tend to be commonalities:
Holidays that take place in spring will tend to honor gods who represent youth, new beginnings, and hope.
Holidays in summer tend to celebrate growth, hard work, and fertility.
Holidays in the autumn are typically opportunities to celebrate the accomplishments we’ve made throughout the year as well as to prepare for the darker, colder times ahead.
Holidays in the winter tend to relate to reflection and thinking about things we can shed or invite as the new year begins.
Holidays can be celebrated individually or as part of a group. Here are some of the holidays my group observes.
What are some common symbols or visuals related to heathenry?
Many heathens view Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) as the main symbol signifying their faith.  This is typically worn as a necklace, though heathens may wear one in a myriad of different ways or not at all.
Elder futhark runes are also common symbols associated with heathenry.  The futhark are representative of the sacred runes our god Odin learned during a journey of self-sacrifice and searching for spiritual wisdom.  Many heathens use these runes for divination purposes or to receive messages from our gods and ancestors, while others do not interact with the runes in a spiritual sense.
There are other symbols associated with heathenry that have been appropriated by white supremacists.  These include the runes Othala, Sowilo, and Elhaz; the Valknut; and sometimes even Mjolnir itself.  These images are not inherently harmful, and many heathens feel it is our duty to combat this appropriation by showing these symbols in their proper, progressive contexts.
What are some books I can read to learn more?
Here are a few books about the Norse myths I recommend:
The Poetic Edda by Jackson Crawford
The Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson
The Wanderer’s Havamal by Jackson Crawford
The Havamal by The Asatru Community
Essential Asatru by Diana Paxson
Norse Myths by Kevin Crossley-Holland
The Viking Spirit by Daniel McCoy
Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman
And here are some books about runes I recommend:
The Way of Fire and Ice: the Living Tradition of Norse Paganism, by Ryan Smith
Rudiments of Runelore, by Stephen Pollington
North Sea Rune Poems, by N. Solheim-Davidson
Norwegian Runes and Runic Inscriptions, by Terje Spurkland
Taking Up the Runes, by Diana L. Paxson

Uhh...well this post turned out really weird. I don't even know what this is lol. First part is more meta, and second part is more headcanon. I just really needed to get these thoughts out of my head :D
I still couldn't get over the fact that Odin had planned and gifted both Hela and Thor with a powerful artifact(Hela's helmet and Mjolnir) and decided to later gave them one more(Gungnir) for ruling, and yet he gave Loki nothing. It really showed how Odin viewed Loki among all his three children and preferred to ignor him. He seriously went from telling the brothers that both of them were born to be kings but only (heavily implied the worthy) one could ascend to the throne(which basically made sure that these brothers are going to compete for it), to giving Thor Mjolnir, then the throne and Gungir would have come with it, making Thor the most powerful he could be and in the brothers' eye the worthier and the winner("This was to be my day of triumph"), and yet he expected Loki to be ok with it? To not try desperately to figure out why Thor was favored while it was Loki who was the more thoughtful one, who understood ruling better? And then people wonder why Loki was jealous of Thor. And you know what? He had every right to be envious of Thor because how Odin treated Loki was so damn unfair.
Then I realized actually this is not completely true. Odin did in fact plan to give Loki a powerful artifact.
Tumblr media
The day he showed the Casket of Ancient Winters to the boys, just as he had showed Hela the helmet when she was a kid. The time he talked about "evil Frost Giants", never bothered to correct Thor that they weren't monsters, scared Loki of his own race and people to the point that he asked whether the Frost Giants still live. And then told them that they were both born to be kings, but only one can ascend to the throne of Asgard. The other gets the throne of "monsters" he was meant to as a puppet king under Asgard's control, bringing their treasure back and remake what Odin had destroyed years ago.
We never found out when these plans didn't matter anymore. Was it before or after Jotunheim? Or did Odin have another reason? Could it be that he was so afraid of Loki's power he preferred not to encourage him for his magic, or give him anything that could make him stronger? After all "a king must tame his threats to ensure they fight for him".
This line of thought made me question sth else. What Odin was talking about when he mentioned "threat" to Hela and showing her the helmet? We know he was talking about Fenrir and implying it about Hela too. But why did he mention taming a threat and showing her a helmet that clearly made her upset and uncomfortable?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we get into the more headcanon-y part.
Let's go back in time a little and observe some Asgradian choices in fashion, weapons and politics during centuries.
This is Bor, father of Odin with horns on his helmet and Gungnir in his hands, killing the dark elves. Bor later was considered a hero for basically genocide.
Tumblr media
Odin Borson. His helmet has some considerable changes from Bor. It has horns and wings and Hela's helmet. He is standing alone with Gungnir.
Tumblr media
Later Odin has given Hela the helmet and conquers the realms with her help, following his father's steps to more extremes.
Tumblr media
I assume during their conquests Odin made the Dwarfs build Mjolnir and gave it to Hela.
Tumblr media
Then he stops at the nine realms, banishes Hela and keeps Mjolnir with all other stolen relics in Asgards' vault.
Tumblr media
He later gives Mjolnir to Thor. But that's not the only thing Thor inherits from him.
Thor's helmet carries the wings of Odin's, and Loki's helmet bears the horns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Which is a nice symbolism for the roles of golden child and scapegoat Thor and Loki have in their family dynamic but I digress). He has basically divided all he had between his three children. The helmets of his three kids together make his original helmet in the mural.
What I was trying to get at with this, is that since Odin didn't wear the helmet after Hela and was keeping it in the vault, and referring to it as sth related to a threat, I headcanon that the helmet originally didn't belong to him and he got it from the someone else during a battle as he tends to steal powerful objects from people he defeats. Considering Hela's reaction she probably knew the story behind it. We've seen Odin likes to tell the stories of his wars to his children while showing them the trophies.
So who was the original owner of Hela's helmet? And why Odin had decided to give it to Hela? This implies he was sure Hela could use the Helmet's power, but why? Well, I have another headcanon :D What if the original owner of the Helmet was Hela's mother? Hela never mentions her mother, and she knew the helmet was going to be hers and wasn't happy about it. Odin could have taken it from his first girlfriend and killed her or imprisoned her, telling Hela that her mother was an enemy, to make sure she never talks about her or questions Odin. This also fits well with my other headcanon that Hela's Loki mother :D Because a child who had inherited her mother's magic and Jotun's powers could be exceptionally powerful and Odin had to tame that threat.
Congrats! You've reached the end of this incredibly messy post. Here's a realistic rendering of me while I was writing it :D

Long Live The King
Pairing: Jotun Loki x Asgardian F!reader
Warnings: assassination attempt, not much this time, mild fight near end...
Summary: you are an assassin sent by Odin to kill the King of Jotunhiem, nothing could have prepared your for what happened......
Part one-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You sat in your chamber sharpening your dagger when a knock came at your door. "Come." You called out continuing your work. "Lady y/n, the king requests your presence." You heard, looking up seeing an Einherjar standing attention in your doorway. "What does he require?" You asked sheathing your dagger. "He requires your presence." He said again making you roll your eyes "very well, lead the way." You said getting up. Following him down the abandoned halls you came upon the large golden doors of the throne room. "Lady y/n to see the king." He said to the other guards as they opened the door.
You walked in seeing Odin sat on the throne gripping gungnir. "My king." You said placing your fist on your chest going down on one knee. "Lady y/n, glad you could join me." He bellowed through the room. "If I may be so bold, what is it you require of me?" You asked bowing your head. You heard him bang the spear on the floor "leave us." He called out, looking around you saw all the guards filter out. "Y/n, what do you know of the frost giants?" Odin asked making his way down the steps. "That they are cruel, evil beats, monsters your highness that the realms would be better off without." You gritted "very good, I have a task for you." Odin said. You looked up at him furrowing your eyebrows "come, I will show you." He said turning on his heel, his cloak billowing behind him.
"Why not send Thor? Does he not posess mjolnir?" You asked looking at him. "He is too brash, I need someone trained in stealth to sneak in under cover of dark and end him while he sleeps." Odin said "and that's me?" You asked raising an eyebrow "yes y/n, I have seen you train. You are quiet, agile. I believe you best suited for the task." He said. "Very well my king." You said placing your fist on your chest. "Very good, pack only what you can carry, speak of this to no one and meet me at the bifrost within the hour." He said "yes my king." You said bowing leaving the room. You went to your chambers layering your clothing, grabbing your thickest cloak with fur trimming fastening it to your shoulders you grabbed your daggers strapping the holsters to your thighs, slipping another into your boot you grabbed your gloves heading towards the bifrost.
You followed him into a small room behind the throne, walking in you saw a desk heaped with papers and maps. "Y/n, I do not give you this task lightly, but I trust you can handle it." Odin said rounding the desk "and what task is that?" You asked "the King of Jotunhiem has been attacking our allies on Vanahiem and Alfhiem, cutting off trading to the realms." He said shifting through some of the papers. "And there are talks amongst the people that they will try here next. Here, in case you are discovered." He said handing you a scroll. "Their king is ruthless, blood thirsty. He will not stop until he rules the nine realms." He said.
You walked in seeing Odin and Heimdall "my king... gatekeeper." You said bowing. "Y/n, we will have to send you by other means, the bifrost will alert too many." Odin said talking to Heimdall. "Here, take this." He said holding out a small bottle "if something happens and you cannot return you will freeze to death in Jotunhiem's frozen wasteland, This will make it more....bearable." He said as you nodded slipping it into your pocket. "Good luck y/n, may the God's favor you." Odin said "my king." You said bowing. You felt Odin place a hand on your head reciting some sort of spell, closing your eyes your body felt light as his words began to fade to the back of your mind. You felt a cold wind hit you face, opening your eyes seeing the barren landscape of Jotunhiem.
The cold wind blew through you as you squinted in the dark. You pulled your cloak tighter around you, shielding you from the snow while you looked around trying to get your bearings. You looked into the distance seeing Utgard shooting up to the sky "there you are." You said to yourself smiling beginning to walk towards the large structure thinking of a plan. The further you walked the worse the storm became, forcing you to take shelter in a near by cave until it broke. You huddled into a corner pulling your cloak up when you heard footsteps at the mouth of the cave. You got to your feet pulling your dagger out ready for a fight "h..Hello? Is anyone here?" You heard making you freeze. "Please..i...I n...need help!" They called out. You slowly stood looking around the rock seeing a man hunched over rubbing his arms.
Tumblr media
"P..please....I don't know where I am!" He called out again. You sheathed your dagger slowly walking out "who are you?" You called out getting the man's attention. "My name is Magnus, who are you?" The man asked. You walked closer taking him in, his long black hair was stiff from the cold, his lithe frame only covered by a green tunic and black leather pants "how did you get here....Magnus?" You asked circling the man "I don't know! One minute I'm walking down the street the next I'm here." He said sitting down leaning against the rock wall. "And how have you not froze to death?" You asked watching him. "I..I j...just got here." He said, his teeth chattering. "Where are you from?" You asked keeping your distance. "I...I'm f..from V..vanahiem." be stuttered pulling his knees up to his chest.
You unclasped your cloak walking over to him draping it over his shoulders. "W..where are y..you from?" He asked looking up at you, his bright green eyes catching your attention "Asgard." You said plainly stepping away from him. "S..so you c..can call t..the bifrost?" He asked pulling the cloak around him. "Yes. But I have to do something first, stay here, remain hidden." You said walking to the mouth of the cave. "W..wait...don't l..leave me." He said getting up. "W..what if t..those monsters show u..up." he said looking at you. You sighed "fine, come on but stay out of my way." You said walking out.
You jogged to the capital, hoping that if you kept your blood pumping you wouldn't freeze, ducking behind a large block of ice you looked at the gates. "W..where is e..eveyone?" You heard Magnus ask next to you. "I don't know, just..stay here I will return shortly." You said pulling a dagger from your holster. "B..but..." he started "I said stay here!" You growled glaring at him as he sunk back down. You crouched down slowly making your way to the gates, noticing the only sound was the wind howling. Your gut was screaming something was off but you would not fail the king. Steadying yourself you continued, crouching down in front of the gated seeing them slightly opened. You looked back seeing magnus's black hair blowing in the wind waving for him to get down you slipped through the gate.
You stayed to the shadows, slowly looking for where the kings chambers may be when you came upon two large ornately decorated doors. "Well, this is probably it." You whispered to yourself. grasping the handle you slowly pushed it open slipping inside. You ducked behind a chair looking around, other then the fire the room was dark, the wall was lined with bookshelves, a desk sat in the corner with papers strewn across it. Seeing another set of doors across the room you slowly made your way to it, gripping your dagger you slowly pushed it open seeing a large four poster bed as someone shifted under the furs. You crouched down, slowly making your way to the side of the bed, standing up you held your dagger up ready to pounce.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." You heard making you freeze. Looking over you saw Magnus leaning on the doorframe admiring his nails. "What are you doing you idiot, I said wait for me." You whisper yelled. You watched as he unclasped your cloak tossing it aside "you aesir....so naive." He laughed stepping into the room. "Wha.." you trailed off, seeing his skin begin to turn blue, his red eyes boring into you. You stepped back looking at the now empty bed "h..how did..." you stuttered hearing him laugh. "A simple illusion, although I don't expect your tiny brain could comprehend it." He snarked walking closer.

You gripped your dagger "so, who are you really then?" You gritted watching him slink closer "oh, where are my manners, i am Loki Laufeyson King of Jotunhiem." He said smiling holding his arms out. Taking in his height he was much taller then you but much smaller then a frost giant. "I did not know the jotuns had a runt leading them?" You snarked. "You will take care how you speak to me asgardian." He growled "well, we won't be speaking long." You said lunging at him but he was much quicker, grabbing your arm he flipped you over his shoulder, your back hitting the floor hard. Gasping for air he straddled your hips, his knees pinning your arms down as he smiled down at you. "Oh, I disagree, we have much to discuss, but that can wait." He smiled placing his hand on your forehead he said something you didn't understand as you were pulled into darkness......

Sylvie: I am your king, long may I reign! Loki: Well I didn’t vote for you! Sylvie: You don’t vote for kings. Loki: Well how’d you become king then? Sylvie: Thor of the Lake, his arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Mjolnir from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Sylvie, was to carry Mjolnir. That is why I am your king. Loki: Listen. Strange people lying in ponds distributing hammers is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

😈 feeling evil. for the asks:
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
we LOVE violence in this household, K
lets choose violence! send me a number and i'll answer
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
i answered this one here!
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
inhales deeply
everyone is wrong about Loki being worthy to wield Mjolnir.
no, no, don't give me that look. my logic for why everyone is wrong about it is rooted in canon for both the MCU and Marvel Comics.
everyone needs to take twenty steps back and sit down and think about why you need Loki able to wield Mjolnir in the first place. what is so fucking special about this hammer, you need Loki to wield it. is it rooted in the belief that being able to wield it means Loki is a hero? does the ability to wield it mean to you she's redeemed herself for all her past misdeeds?
if it is, this rant is for you! (and even if you don't, hi welcome to my biggest pet peeve related to my most beloved!)
Loki cannot, and will never be able to wield Mjolnir. he will never be worthy to carry it. and it makes sense for this character.
in the comics, it's established at some point (i am not citing the specific issue, sue me, Thor has 12343464574 comics) that to be worthy of wielding and using the powers of Mjolnir, the wielder has to be someone who can reasonably fulfill the role of Thor in Ragnarok should Thor die.
the text on the hammer itself essentially says whoever wields the hammer is worthy of the power of Thor. and what comes with that is the role of being Thor. the responsibilities and the trials and choices that come with taking on Thor's role. they have to be willing to walk the life of Thor in Ragnarok, including his death.
in the comics, Thor recognises he cannot be the hero that people need Thor to be while he's unworthy of Mjolnir. it's why he grants Jane the right to use his name when she wields Mjolnir. now, granted, there was a lot going on with Thor at this time in the comics which lead up to him being unworthy, but that would take too much time to go over so i won't. but Jane at this point was dying, and she kept wielding the hammer even after learning it would kill her. she remains the Mighty Thor knowing that this path will kill her in the end. and that is part of the reason she's worthy, she's willing to sacrifice herself in the end to save people.
but Jane (and Thor, when he was worthy) had faith and conviction in her decisions while wielding Mjolnir.
Loki doesn't have this, not truly.
i will admit to there being a (very short) point where Loki could wield Mjolnir in the comics, but it happened during an event known as AXIS, when (via an inversion spell done by Red Skull [don't ask, comic shenanigans, he's still not Actually Dead iirc]) the heroes/anti-heroes became villains/anti-villains and the villains/anti-villains became heroes/anti-heroes.
and that Loki? the Loki who was worthy to actually wield Mjolnir and classified as a "hero"? a complete, utter ass of a person.
you think i'm joking? here, having these comic panels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but!!! this actually brings us to the point of this rant. why Loki is not worthy of Mjolnir, and why she will never be worthy.
this Loki? mentions he no longer feels guilt for the things he's done bc of this whole event fucking with his mind.
what do i take from that?
one of the core fucking reasons that Loki cannot wield Mjolnir is because he feels so much guilt. but that doesn't go deep enough. we gotta go another layer deeper, because Thor can still wield Mjolnir when he feels guilt.
but Thor never doubts himself and his ability to be a good god to his mortals. when Thor does? that's when he's unworthy to wield Mjolnir.
you can absolutely layer that specific lens of interpretation onto Loki, because he is always doubting himself. why? because everyone questions every little thing he does, and no one trusts that he has good intentions (except for Thor, and for a time even that wasn't guaranteed for Loki, in either universe).
even when Loki is doing things for the good of others, he doubts himself because he's weighed by the fact others will see the worst in what he's done. so it's less "i no longer feel guilt for my actions" and more "i no longer doubt myself for the things i do or have done".
and yes. you can apply this specific lens of interpretation to OG Loki in the comics too, the one pre-Siege. the one literally titled God of Mischief, Lies, and Evil.
"amphi stop reaching" IM NOT
okay maybe a little, but i'm not reaching that far.
i don't recall exactly who in the comics knows/remembers the fact Ragnarok is a cycle, and that the creation and destruction of the universe is something Odin is trying to break. not the point, doesn't matter.
for a moment, imagine that Loki knew about the Ragnarok cycles. imagine that he knew about the various lives he'd lived before. he'd know he would never be trusted, or loved, and even if he clawed his way into respect with the Asgardians, he is always fated to fall from their favour and be twisted into the villain of the Aesir and of Asgard.
because remember, in the mythology (which is referenced in the comics as a previous Ragnarok cycle) Loki is trusted by the gods of Asgard.
as much as they blame him for things, or they rage at him, and they hate and mistrust him, Loki was one of them. Loki is a jotunn in the mythology, and while we no longer have the myths that tell us how, we know that he and Odin were blood-oath brothers. that implies serious trust and love on Odin's part about Loki, to take that oath and to call Loki brother. to bring him to Asgard, and call him one of their own. it is an enormous thing that does not get enough attention about their mythological counterparts.
but through so many small and large things in the myths, Loki falls out of favour with all of Asgard. including Odin.
so. imagine this. Loki in the comics knows all of this. knows that, even if he can get Asgard to love him and trust him, eventually things will happen and he will lose all of that. the major difference in this is that Thor is his brother, and they're not bound by blood or a blood-oath, but a life lived side-by-side as brothers who loved and hated each other in a complicated dynamic that only they understand.
but Loki knows his fate. so he pushes everyone away. he makes people hate him before they can love him, because he assumes it will hurt less. and everyone but Thor (and later Sigyn) falls into this.
but Loki is also selfish. he holds onto Thor and Sigyn, falling into a loop of trying to pull close those few people he cannot truly push away, only to remember his fate and do what he can to push them away again. because Loki truly and deeply loves both his wife and his brother, and they both love him too, they love him back. but he's trapped himself in a cycle of self-abuse by doing this.
can you imagine the doubt that would sow?

@the-mjolnir-owner continued from here:
Thor just wanted to be over with this, to meet whoever ruled this organization and – try to – politely explain their situation. Despite being raised a warrior, he could be diplomatic when he needed to be and this time it seemed that his fists wouldn’t open the way like they always did. He turned to Loki, annoyed, to see what was taking so long. Loki looked… terrified. Like he was six years old again, small and wet after falling into a pond before Thor could jump in to rescue him. He had to assume the older brother persona that he thought he’d never use again. “What do you mean? Came back from where?” He tried to get closer, but the clerk was glaring at them, “are you afraid you’re a robot?” He tried, “you’re not a robot. I saw your insides when Kurse stabbed you,” he sucked in a trembling breathe, “and, well, much more when Thanos, you know,” he was uneasy now, anxiety beginning to pick. Then he remembered what Bruce had taught him, to rub small circles on the palms of his hands to try and anchor on here and now. “Come along, we will be alright. We will find a way out of here, together.”
Loki grimaced. Though he did not want Thor to think him weak, he still held worried about his state of existence. He had not realised he was a frost giant for a thousand years. What if he really hadn’t survived Thanos and the Loki who had come back to Thor was just some elaborately programmed construct? Not only would he die but he would upset his brother all over again.
Well, there was only really one way to find out.
Huffing out a breath to steel himself, he closed his eyes and stepped through. There was a bright flash —
— and nothing untoward happened.
“Oh.”
In an attempt to save face, he avoided looking at Thor’s expression and marched through to the next room, not even bothering to ask the clerk what the flash had been about, despite how his curiosity screamed.
There was a group of guards waiting outside, each carrying one of the zapping sticks. At least one of them was visibly nervous at having to face two Asgardians, mostly the size of Thor.
“You will come with us to the courtroom.”

I think my main issue with the Loki TV series s2 finale is that I don't trust them to carry on the story well.
Like how in Thor Ragnarok, Thor learned he himself was the God of Thunder and he didn't need Mjolnir to command lightning and be awesome, etc etc and then in Infinity War he spent the entire movie tracking down a substitute Mjolnir so he could hit Thanos with it.
I do not trust s3 of Loki to do anything better, if they even make one. Loki ends the show in a place of unimaginable power -- he could show up anywhere in time and space, can control entire timelines, has become the God of Stories -- but I am willing to bet his next cameo will be "oh woe is me, help me Thor" only to betray him because the MCU always retreats to the familiar because it "sells"

Tumblr media
Loki and Valkyrie seek redemption in the first adventure of an epic new multiversal series that reimagines the origins of iconic Marvel heroes.
Full synopsis ⬇️
So many worlds, so little time. Infinite possibilities, creating infinite realities. Long have I watched the trickster god sow chaos. But . . . what if Loki saved Asgard from Tony Stark’s revenge?
Thor—Son of Odin, God of Thunder, wielder of the hammer Mjolnir—is dead. And Loki is responsible.
It was only meant to be a joke—tampering with the Destroyer, changing Thor’s course to Midgard—a bit of mischief with a chance of maiming. But Loki's harmless prank spiraled out of control, unleashing death and destruction on New York City and the heroes sworn to protect it. The city was saved, but at the cost of Thor’s life.
Furious and heartbroken, the All-Father banishes Loki to Earth for his crime. Loki finds himself in a realm of boxed wine, instant noodles, and some sort of regional performance troupe known as the “Buffalo Bills.” It’s a meager existence, far from Asgard’s grand courts, but he finds his new friend, Brian the Gecko, a much more engaging companion than the sycophants back home. A true meeting of the minds. Loki is the God of Mischief—but he knows, deep down, that he never truly deserved to stand next to their father’s golden child Thor, as two true sons of Odin.
Yet, he cannot even endure his exile in peaceful isolation. A Valkyrie—Hel-bent on carrying out her oath to Thor—barges into his trailer-home with his brother’s final words from the beyond: a plea to find a certain Dr. Jane Foster and pass on Mjolnir to its rightful heir.
While Loki struggles to fulfil his brother’s last request, the far-reaching consequences of his fatal prank return to haunt him. Blinded by grief from those he lost in the chaos wrought by Asgard, Iron Man vows revenge on those who consider themselves gods. Determined to protect the Earth from the might of this unpredictable alien power, he forges Asgard’s own weaponry into a lethal suit of armor, set on eradicating any tether between their worlds. Consequences be damned. When Asgard looks to Loki for salvation, he must answer the question: Am I truly worthy?

Thor Odinson x Guardian!Reader
Y/N has been Thor Odinson's guardian since birth, the highest of the Valkyries, sworn to protect the Prince with her life. what happens when she returns, thought to be dead for the past thousand years?
Fem!Reader
a/n: the villain i chose for this is actually from BBC's Merlin, go cry about it. also this isn't a romance i've just had the idea in my head for a good long while now. I also have REALLY inconsistent start of sentence capitalization.
my computer's a dick and wouldn't load any GIFs so I couldn't put one 😍
"we are gathered here, on the 1000th anniversary of the death of the mighty warrior, Y/n, to honor her and her legacy," Odin started. the same speech he gave every year. "she gave her life protecting the Crown Prince Thor."
"hold on," a strangely familiar voice emerged from the crowd. "last time I checked, I'm still alive."
~~~
the Lady Morgana was a fierce foe, and one of the greatest threats to the prince you've faced yet. making it your duty to stop her, by whatever means become necessary. she was a powerful sorceress, but so were you. and you wouldn't back down without a fight.
but you didn't get a chance.
her eyes flashed gold and you were knocked onto the soft grass.
and then you couldn't move,
couldn't speak,
but you could look around.
you could hear.
which remained your fate for the next thousand years.
until suddenly, you could move again. you could breathe, and you could talk.
after a thousand years.
you had watched as an entire village was built around you, and every spring they sacrificed a dove in your honor. who wants to bet it was the angel wings?
but one year, mere seconds after they plunged the knife into the heart of the dove, you were freed.
thank the gods Heimdall could still see you, or else you would have never made your way back.
back home.
~~~
all eyes were on you.
"Lady Y/n?" Odin's familiar voice filled your ears. he had clearly aged some. "you were thought to be dead. even Heimdall could not see you."
"I suppose I was dead. in a way." you breathed in before you continued. "The Lady Morgana turned me to stone. where is she? is she still alive?"
"the Lady Morgana is dead. she was killed shortly after your disappearance by a Midgardian sorcerer."
"Emrys. . ." you said under your breath. "where is Prince Thor?"
"he is safe, which I believe is only because of you," Queen Frigga spoke up. "would you like to see him?" "I would," you said with a smile.
~~~
"mother, you wished to see me?" said a deep voice as a man entered the room. surely, this could not be Thor? last you had seen him he was only five hundred years old. a child. he had grown handsome. he had golden blonde hair that fell just below his shoulders, his jawline gave the appearance of one cut by the ax you've wielded the entirety of your warriorhood. his blue eyes, though the same ones you had seen all those centuries ago, looked different. they were older. he had seen and learned far more than when you saw him last. his armor fit him perfectly, it was clearly made for his own form. he appeared strong now, and in his right hand he carried the same hammer he had since childhood. Mjolnir.
"Thor, you. . . you look so different." what a stupid thing to say. of course he did! it's been a thousand years! you shouldn't be surprised that he's changed, but what would he think of you now? would he even remember you? would he believe it was you?
"Mother, who is-" he cut himself off. "Lady y/n?" his voice could only be described as bewildered.
"it's me," you stepped closer to him, wanting to see him better.
"that's impossible. you died a thousand years ago."
Queen Frigga spoke up. "She didn't. she was turned to stone by a sorceress."
"And I was conscious for all of it," you added. "a village was built around me. they sacrificed doves to me every year. they probably thought I was some sort of goddess. how ironic is that?"
he gave a soft smile. "Does Loki know you've returned?"
"No, and I'm sure he'd prefer it that way," you said.
Prince Loki never liked you. you were sworn to protect his brother, while he was to be left in the dust. you didn't do it because Thor was your favorite, or anything, you had merely sworn to protect the crown prince. though while over time, you had grown a closer bond with Thor than you had with Loki, that was only because you spent all your time with Thor. with Loki, well, it was his choice how much time he spent around you. though you had prayed that he had overcome his childish grudge.
"though he will find out, sooner or later," the Queen said. "unless you try to hide."
"If he's the same Loki I knew back then, he'll find out all by himself, even if I do."
"somehow, I believe Loki has become even more Loki-like since then. It's like there's more Loki per Loki," said Thor.
"I doubt I'll ever understand you, brother," a new, unfamiliar voice said. looking past Thor to the grand double doors of the throne room, you saw another man, striding to stand beside Thor.
Loki too, had changed. his hair was dark, darker than any others you'd seen, and it was long. though not quite as long as Thor's. his eyes were green and were in a glare, with help from his low resting eyebrows. he was skinnier than Thor as he always has been, likely still relying on his magic rather than combat skills.
"Prince Loki. how have you been?" you needed no introductions. he knew who you were.
"progressively worse and worse, thanks. I suppose it's been the same for you?" he responded, his natural sarcasm still evident in his tone, even after so long.
"until it got better."
"I never thought I would see you again. what happened?" said the Prince. his tone didn't say it, but you could tell he was genuinely curious.
"Well," you breathed before retelling the story. "We had deemed the Lady Morgana a threat, both to your brother's safety, and also to the whole of Asgard. so, I went to Midgard to stop her before that happened. but it turned out that she was an even stronger sorceress than I had initially thought, and she was able to cast a spell on me, turning me into stone. I could still hear and see my surrounds, but I couldn't move. some Midgardian townspeople found me and built a village around me. they sacrificed birds to me every year, that's the only way I had of knowing how long it had been. but the day it hit the thousand-year mark, the spell broke, and I was free. I called Heimdall and he answered, and now I'm back!"
"What an amazing tale. such a good thing she's dead, oh the havoc she'd have wrought on Asgard," said the younger Prince, still with that damn sarcasm. did he want Asgard to fall?
Thor spoke up, saying, "and I can only guess you'd side with her." a high level of harshness filled his tone. what happened to the two? sure, they never got along well as children, but they never hated each other. is that what was happening here? perhaps. but maybe you could help sort it out.
~~~
but you didn't.
you never got the chance
he came too soon.
the Guardians too late.
you watched as Thanos killed half of your people, then Loki and Heimdall. both tried to achieve something, one trying to kill the titan, the other trying to send someone to Earth. but only one succeeded. then Thanos and his army of freaks left.
then you met people. the Guardians of the Galaxy, they called themselves.
then all but a damn raccoon died.
you got everything back, just to lose it all again a few years later.
but you had fulfilled your duty.
the crown prince, now king, was still alive.
congratulations.

Hiiii! As someone who comes to thorki fandom occasionally, you're my absolute favorite blog! *~*
A question. Do you still rec fics? It's totally okay if you don't, please don't feel pressured!
But if you do, can I please ask for "early thorki" relationship? Like, perhaps set in thor 1 era and maybe dark world. No avengers characters please, i really get weird vibes when they're in thorki fics and i prefer asgardian vibes more🥲😅 i really like their relationship in the first movies bc i feel like in thor 1 and pre-canon, it was thor who started the relationship but always acted like nothing particular was going on between them, making loki feel miserable and then when loki finally snapped, thor realized he truly loved his brother. I just like this silly headcanon of mine🤭
Anyway, thank you!!!♡
Anon this message genuinely made my day. Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes! I am definitely happy to give you recs! I’ve included them below. And I feel you. The early movies' characterization and dynamic is great. Plus I love pics that really explore the whole world of Asgard more. If you or anyone else has additional recs I'd love to hear them bc I love pre canon or canon divergent thorki fits set around Thor 1. And nice headcanon! Hope you enjoy some of these fics. Come back into my inbox any time. :)

Odin is dead. Loki must take up the mantle of King even as war threatens Asgard, Thor remains bereft of both Mjolnir and his immortality, and stress coupled with the knowledge of his heritage drives Loki to the brink.

Chaos War by astolat (words: 34,203 | rating: E | Thorki)
It was never easy to find Loki when he wanted to hide, but he wasn't doing a particularly good job of it at the moment. Probably he didn't think anyone from Asgard would be wasting their time hunting for him while the shining ones churned their way steadily through all the realm.

Loki follows Thor to a brothel and gets the shock of his life.
Tongues to the Flame by seidrade (words: 9,844 | rating: E | Thorki)
A peculiar, sour look crossed Loki’s face before his expression smoothed. “It is now tradition for the initiate to celebrate his newfound strength before he leaves the next morning on his long journey. I imagine you will find no shortage of offers on this most auspicious of nights. I will take my leave, brother, and you may tell me who to summon to your side.”
Thor didn’t think he was imagining the bitterness that laced Loki’s words.
“Don’t go,” he said, still feeling as if he was floating in his own body. “Stay.”
Born to be Kings by Kadorienne (words: 66,618 | rating: T | Thorki)
When the princes of Asgard made their ill-fated jaunt to Jotunheim, Odin arrived to fetch them before the frost giant grabbed Loki's arm. Odin was able to carry out his plan to make Loki his puppet king of Jotunheim. But how long will Loki remain an obedient puppet?
Loyalty at Any Price by seidrade (words: 22,663 | rating: E | Thorki)
“This whole time, I’ve been searching the Nine Realms— alone— for answers to questions I barely know how to ask. I thought Heimdall at his watch, our father upon the throne, and most grievously… I thought you lost to me forever.” Thor’s resurgence of anger gives way to something like despair. He can’t tell whether he wants to pummel Loki into one giant bruise, or hold him and weep like a child.
When Thor returns to Asgard and exposes Loki’s deception, his demands for answers and Loki’s reluctance to give them soon bubble over into a cathartic confrontation.
Dead wings carried like a paper kite by illwynd (words: 48,612 | rating: M | Thorki | CW: Dark Themes)
In the heat of battle, Loki kills his brother. As soon as Thor lies dead at his feet, though, he realizes this is not what he wanted. So he brings Thor back, and surely all is well again. Right?

Okay pulling from that last Riordan post I feel like the entire nature of Norse mythology in the Riordanverse could be so freaking cool????
And it's all based on Ragnarök.
You see, in the original mythos, there's a lot of importance placed on it. Specifically, the Aesir know it's coming, and do the classic bring-about-your-destiny-in-order-to-prevent-it thing.
But here's the thing: They do that by being dicks, and Loki is pretty wrapped up in it.
(obligatory the actual knowledge we have of these myths is fragmentary and there is no one correct interpretation because we do not know what the original one was and the general opinion at the time would have fluctuated anyway because thats how mythology works)
See, the Aesir get this prophecy, and in it Loki and his children are some pretty major players in the apocalypse and their own deaths. As in, two of his kids kill Thor and Odin. So in order to prevent this, they take Loki's children and imprison them for something they haven't actually done yet.
Additionally, the Aesir keep Loki himself around because he's really good at solving problems for them. Sure, most of those are caused by him, but he's still 'willing' to fix them all once threatened with Mjolnir to the face. (My favorite example of this is the birth of Sleipnir) (And I'm not saying Loki is an innocent little baby who's just getting pushed around by the Aesir he totally desires Chaos and Suffering but hes more of a trickster than a fully malicious figure—okay ill shut up now)
Anyway, the point is that the Aesir cause their own demise by being dicks.
Now, Ragnarök itself is really important in terms of what it's actually for. The impression we get from its descriptions is that it's supposed to do away with the gods and the world they've built for themselves and usher in a new, better world with newer gods and people who will hopefully do better this time. It's also established as the time when all bonds will break.
So. Not the worst apocalypse.
And it's exactly that cyclical nature that I think the Riordanverse could capitalize big-time.
Because the Percy Jackson books were all about breaking the cycle of abuse, right? Saying that just because the gods hurt us, doesn't give us the duty to tear them down against all reason? Saying that yes, the gods are flawed, and we are the ones to clean up their messes?
And in all the books, there's this undercurrent idea of the gods marching to their own downfall, and their children being the ones to rescue them from it.
You know who survives Ragnarök? The children of the Aesir.
Víðarr and Váli, Odin's sons, who avenged his death. Thor's twins Móði and Magni, who bear Mjolnir after their father dies. I see a pattern here.
Ragnarök is when the mistakes of the adults—of the parents—of the people in power—catch up to them. When they have to account for their cruelties. And their children—who inherit their symbols of power—inherit the world, to do a better job than they did.
Personally, I would say that by the time of this theoretical book, Ragnarök has happened multiple times. Each time the same scenarios are presented to different players, and those new gods and jotuns either change their roles or carry them out.
aaaaaaaaaaa im running out of brain space what im saying is that the original Norse myths actually carry the spirit of Riordan's signature themes better than the version we got in Magnus Chase
additions welcome!!

Love & Thunder thoughts
This is going to be a spoiler-y ramble so I’m putting it all under a cut.
I feel like I’ve been holding my breath for this movie ever since I heard it was greenlit. It’s the occupational hazard of being massively invested in a franchise that is ongoing. I generally try to be very adaptable and open to new developments but I always have to brace myself. Everything new could completely bulldoze the intricate system of headcanons I’ve come up with around Asgard and the characters. Ragnarok is what kicked my enthusiasm for the Brodinsons into overdrive and Thor’s grief in Infinity War is what inspired a monster-sized WIP after a decade of passively enjoying MCU content. I also liked Endgame, but I was deeply nervous about the Loki series and deeply nervous for Love & Thunder. I really liked the Loki series and am psyched for S2. But while it didn’t do what I was worried about and wreck all my headcanons, Love & Thunder is easily my least favorite Thor movie.
I don’t hate it. There are a lot of things I like, and I’m going to be retconning Heimdall’s family into my fic as soon as I can. I don’t think there could have been a better way to explain Jane getting Thor powers than Thor inadvertently casting a spell like the one Odin did on Mjolnir, and the way they just call her a Thor like that’s the obvious thing to do was probably also the best approach. Same with King Valkyrie (still don’t like it; I want her to have an actual name, and aren’t they implying queens are lesser by not making that her title?, but hey at least I don’t have to go back and give her a different name in my fic now). Also loved the goats, the Bifrost longship, the black and white planet, the shadow monsters, and all the battle scenes. Mjolnir’s new ability to re-shatter and do a multi-attack is genius and looked fantastic. Loved seeing Darcy and Erik. Loved the recap that included all three times Thor lost his brother. Loved seeing Sif again even if she was basically just there to be a reverse Black Knight from Monty Python. None of the things I was worried about before it came out happened (except that Loki wouldn’t come back, which I hoped he would, even if it was juuuust long enough for an onscreen hug with Thor). I was worried they’d kill Thor off, but instead they gave him an adoptive daughter who is adorable! Cool.
But this movie is a mess. A lot of the humor fell flat for me (especially the jealous weapons thing which got old pretty much immediately), but the biggest problem is pacing. This is the same biggest problem I have with Venom 2. Why are these directors so pleased with their short runtimes when it’s only possible because their movies are frenetic dashes to the end credits? If it had been somewhere between 15-30 minutes longer, I think it would’ve fixed almost all of my problems with it, including the humor. I want to take like 45 minutes off Eternals and divide them between Venom 2 and L&T.
Jane’s story: she wants to live for the important astrophysics work she’s doing, but we don’t see her doing any of it except in the breakup montage. Why not show what she was working on pre-Blip and how weird it was to slot back in when Darcy had gained the same credentials and carried on without her in the meantime? She wants to keep doing her work but the idea that it can go on without her now is worse. And once she becomes sick, show her being less able to do her work. Show her at stage 3 so that her Mjolnir solution seems less like her only option, because then it would tie into Gorr’s claim that gods are selfish. The medical solution isn’t fast enough for her so she’s going to try magic. Then show her trying to do her work after starting to wield Mjolnir, but she’s sicker and she’s now in stage 4. My main issue is that the movie doesn’t make it clear before Thor tells us that using Mjolnir is making the cancer worse. I thought she was already terminal, so what did she have to lose except small increments of time? Those added scenes would’ve helped the movie breathe and made Jane’s arc more powerful.
Valkyrie’s story: it seems she thinks she wants to die in battle to rejoin her sisters in Valhalla, and then she gets wounded and has no interest in joining the final battle against Gorr. We needed one scene to solidify her wish to be reunited with everyone she lost and one scene to show her realizing how much she now has. She doesn’t want to die anymore. That’s huge, and the movie totally glossed over it.
I’m not sure what Thor’s story needed except to slow down. Everything he’s lost being explained in humorous summary and then him being extremely obnoxious to the Guardians does not sell his grief the way Infinity War and even Endgame did. Even the romance between Thor and Jane only felt like it had substance to it because it was built on previous movies. The flashbacks made it seem sillier, except for when he enchanted Mjolnir to protect her, which was lovely.
It’s not just that L&T is missing slower scenes; it’s missing ones that would increase the tension too. There’s so much telling and so little showing. Ragnarok also had this problem with the Asgard side of the story. But in Ragnarok, everything else was so enjoyable that it outweighed that. Not so here. A sequence where Gorr attacks Omnipotence City would’ve been great. He attacks it, maybe early in the film before he attacks New Asgard, and he’s doing some damage around the edges. We don’t see how that goes yet. Next he attacks New Asgard, after which Thor wants to go to Omnipotence City to rally the survivors (if there are any) to go rescue the kids. They find Omnipotence City basically in perfect condition because Gorr failed to make much headway with his assault. However, despite their obvious power, the gods there refuse to help Thor save the children of Asgard. Gorr, meanwhile, has turned his focus to reaching Eternity because that’s the only way he can defeat the gods of Omnipotence City. This would really sell that Gorr kinda has a point. I’m not sure what to do about the Eternity wish thing though. Gorr’s been killing all these lesser gods but he basically does get to have a prayer answered in the end, so what’s that about? It feels a little weird. Maybe they could say something about how the gods are just people with too much power, but that’s what Gorr has become now too? I dunno. (Also what’s up with there being a Wishing Well McGuffin in both this movie and Multiverse of Madness?)
Finally, way too much Korg, but at least with him as a framing device, I can ignore basically anything I don’t like. I can assume all those things I wished were in the movie actually happened offscreen and Korg couldn’t be bothered to include them in his retelling. He is canonically an unreliable narrator so it’s not even a stretch. But it was very frustrating when he got shattered and it was played like this wacky sequence suddenly had a big character death, only for him to be perfectly fine as just a face. Possibly one of the worst examples in the MCU of a character death fakeout. Could we have had a hint earlier on that Kronans don’t need to be intact to survive? Maybe the one Thor shattered in Dark World coming back? Also, in Ragnarok Korg said he had a mum, so was he adopted by some random lady after ending up on Sakaar or was that just a retcon?
Also, on the technical side of things, there were a couple of scenes that must’ve been pickups where they do that thing where they edit the actor’s face saying the new dialogue over the original filmed shot, and Chris and Natalie’s faces looked extremely uncanny valley. Super distracting. And when they went to the black-and-white planet, maybe I blinked at the wrong moment but it seemed like they went from wandering around on the featureless surface of the tiny planet to being inside a giant tent structure. Establishing shot, anyone? Where the heck did that come from?
Anyway, this left me wondering what could’ve been if they’d brought Patty Jenkins back and let her direct the love story she wanted to do for Thor 2. I like a lot of Taika’s other work, especially Ragnarok, but whoever told him to aim for a 2-hour runtime deserves to be slapped.

‼️‼️‼️MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS SPOILERS UNDER THIS‼️‼️‼️
Okay so I was so hyped up for this movie and I went in with high expectations and honestly I was so dissatisfied 😔😔😔
First of all Wanda my main girl literally was trying to murder a 14 year old child so she could use her powers to see her children and literally STEAL them from a Wanda that already has them like 😀😀 also I have seen people defending her and being like “it was the dark hold making her do that 🥺” k but still sis literally murdered all the sorcerers at kamar taj, killed all the Illuminati members, traumatized her OWN kids,used her variant (aka an innocent women) to do her dirty work and almost succeeded in killing America 💀💀
Next thing I hated was that like the fight scenes were SO BORING like the magic fight scene in The first doctor strange were literally perfect + the fight scene from IW with strange and thanos fighting on Titan was just mwah but in MoM it was literally just them throwing energy blasts and stuff like I wanted to see them go into the mirror dimension and like fight in there or like teleporting to another planet and doing some damage there but it was just…so bad 😀
Now for the cameos I was literally so excited to see the Illuminati and was so hyped only for them to kill them off after 5 minutes 🤨🤨🤨 like first of all they introduced REED RICHARDS and PROFESSOR X but killed them off like nothing like ??? Also the killing of professor x literally made me so mad because Professor X is literally one of the most powerful telepath in all of marvel and you’re telling me he lost to Wanda??? Yeah Wanda’s a very powerful person but her telepathy is not on par with Charles like this man literally almost killed the entire human and mutant race with just his mind and having cerebro as a boost but even without cerebro he’s a very powerful telepath like the man literally held Sebastian Shaw in place while magneto killed him 🙄🙄 ALSO HOW TF DID MARIA DIE?? CAPTAIN MARVEL CAN LITERALLY ABSORB ENERGY AND TAKE HITS FROM THANOS WARSHIP AND MJOLNIR BUT UR TELLING ME WANDA KILLED HER BY DROPPING A STATUE ON HER?? I DONT BELIEVE IT 🥹🥹Can we also talk about how vision was only mentioned like twice??? Like where tf did white vision go mans really said “I am vision” and dipped like 🤨🤨🤨🤨
THE CGI AND MUSIC WAS SO GOOD BUT LIKE THE WRITING 🤢🤢 I MEAN IT WAS WRITTED BY MICHAEL WALDRON AKA THE GUY WHO WROTE THE LOKI SERIES SO 😐😐😐
LAST THING WAS THAT THEY DID PROMO FOR CHARACTERS LIKE SARA AND RINTHRAH LIKE THESE 2 CHARACTERS GOT THEIR OWN FUNKO POPS FOR WHAT??? 5 MINUTES OF SCREEN TIME IN TOTAL LIKE WHAT 😁😁😁
Honestly America Chavez carried this movie and I didn’t really like Wanda or strange in this (love strange as a character but the way he acted was so ??? Like nothing compared to the past movies) and I will be rooting for NWH strange and Wandavision Wanda 🫂🫂
This is just a personal thing but I honestly thought the darkhold castle would but bigger not a three walled hole in a mountain with stuff on the walls like I expected a huge gothic castle with statues and paintings of the scarlet witch with worshippers and offerings and all that fun stuff 😔😔
Anyways wish Jean was here to beat Wanda and then make some kids for her so she can be happy and not get tortured emotionally in every movie 💕💕 help a fellow red head out Jean ☺️☺️☺️

Thor: Love and Thunder (minor spoilers)
Tumblr media
It was funny alright, i laughed at; the dad bod to god bod joke, kissing werewolf woman on wolf-woman, Jane Fonda and Jodie foster joke or Thor randomly giving deadpan shitty motivational speeches. Enjoyed Krog telling Thor bedtime tales. It was colourful as fcu*k, it was pro-lgbtqia as much as Disney executives could handle; good for you Korg you found Dwayne, and Valkyrie you should have married the nine muses instead of just kissing the hand, you disaster lesbian! And wow Cosmic Dolphins mate for life in pack of sex! Yay for polycule! The movie was also Disney-fied in certain aspects of the cinematography with bleating overpowering Goats running up rainbow paths! Music was fun for sure! The actions were good too, loved the second battle in black and white on the barren moon like planet! And i was not expecting a love triangle between Mjolnir, Thor and Stormbreaker either!
And damnit Dr. Jane Foster! You were so so so good as Mighty Thor! The few moments Jane and Valkyrie had, my queer heart was so happy; it was beautiful, great female bonding, also it has a great potential as epic gay ship! Their chemistry was WOW!
I am happy this movie dealt with the issues of toxic expectations of being a man, being masculine man is hard, being god is hard. Thor’s depression didn’t get magically cured just because he lost weight! He chose to suppress it by fighting and protecting people. That is what depression does, it takes away the love and care you should have for yourself! Sadly, Thor’s issues were sidelined as narrator info dump.
The story had so much potential to be more than another depressed man finding re-purpose of life when he meets the love of his life or has epiphanic moment or both; i know Thor lost a lot, his back tattoos proved it, he misses mom, dad, Natasha, Tony and even that Loki too! This love and loss and the good hearted chaos in him, makes him Thor. But i am tired of good man suppressing their big sad and carrying on while good man unable to handle the big sad turn into villain and go on rampage! It is one of the best narrative line with morals and lessons to juxtapose, but it is still bit overused trope now. It only works when you love the hero but also sympathise with the villain.
Tumblr media
But, the villain in here, come on, man! Come on! Gorr was so disappointing! So disappointing! So disappointing!
If you cast Christian Bale, our expectations sky rockets automatically! Set aside his Dark Knight Trilogy; he still has a stellar list of movies to praise his skills! But what was this! What? What?
Gorr here. He is a gremlin child born of, if Voldemort had fcu*ked Gollam or vice versa in a dirty alley on a full moon’s night! Bald, dirty teeth, annihilating population because he is BIG SAD, and has a broken flute making windy screeching voice! Such less screen time and such bland background setting! I couldn’t sympathise with him! I tried! But it was just… bad!
And that cursed sword, the necrosword was reduced to soul corrupting weapon! Look i am no Marvel Comics expert, but I have read a handful of them, and the encyclopaedia of Marvel characters, and I know! It was the first symbiote ever created! The God Butcher Gorr, was downplayed and almost treated like a NPC Midlevel Boss to unlock other levels!
And That Zeus Was Shit! Lampoon is the word for him.
Only god i love is The Bao God! Bao God is the cutest! I will worship Bao God! 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺!
And I saw Matt Damon again! And Luke Hemsworth!

(warning: long ass response ahead because I'm so bad with NOT WRITING A FUCKTON OF SHIT LMFAO)
10 - His ego had always been a problem. Always. Even in these days, Thor gets too into his own head over his capabilities, overestimating himself. Believing it's he who needed to solve the problem. That only he can do it. Even the God of Thunder has his limits.
It was a day in his youth - akin to young adult years for human years, but to Thor, he'd already been a young man for hundreds of years. And Odin had called a meeting for just him and Loki. His quarters overlooked the whole of Asgard and the young princes arrived with anticipatory butterflies in their stomach for what they knew was an important discussion with their father.
"You will be faced with challenges and responsibilities someday," Odin began, pacing before them by the balcony, "There is much to expect from the young princes of Asgard. Only one of you may be a leader in my stead, once my time has passed, and it is not something that should ever be taken lightly." Odin's eye gazed on Thor, lingering upon him and Thor swelled up with pride. His father had been training him all his life, for him to take the throne. Thor knew this would come to pass, it was guaranteed. He was destined to be King of Asgard.
He would fail to notice his brother's small scowl in the absence of their father's attention. Notice the way his emerald eyes hardened slightly, before his expression cleared in favor of intentional ignorance to the favoritism.
"When this time comes, I know you shall make me proud." Odin strode to a sealed casket nearby, brushing his fingers lightly over it. The casket glowed with Norse runes, followed by the sound of a latch unlocking. Odin opened it carefully, and Thor felt the air escape his lungs.
Mjolnir's steel shone beautifully from the golden Asgardian sunlight pouring into the room. Odin took it by its handle, supporting the head of the hammer with his other hand and carried it to Thor.
"You have great ability, my first-born." Odin said. "With the support of your brother, you have demonstrated great strength and power. This will be but a channel for you, a symbol for our people and any who oppose or support you. I entrust this to you. I know you will never fail us."
"Thank you, father." Thor said as firmly as he could, taking the handle. There was weight to the hammer, but he immediately felt the connection. The prickling extended from his chest through his fingers and blue lightning crackled around the steel. He pulled his gaze to look at Loki, beaming with an 'I told you so' sort of look.
They knew of Mjolnir's existence, knew that one day one of them would be entrusted to it, but Thor always believed it was destined to him. And this confirmed it. He was always powerful, strong - physically and mentally - and Mjolnir being bestowed to him along with Odin all but confirming that he was to be King of Asgard told Thor he was the absolute fucking greatest. (One of too many situations that he, in retrospect, now saw as blatant favoritism and flaunting in Loki's face that he was never truly and Odinson. Which was never the truth. Blood never made them brothers, their bond did.)
But this was also one of many situations that solidified in Thor's head that he was great, and always strong, and could never show any weakness or failure. He was always on a pedestal. It doesn't manifest anymore in brutishly running into battle without care for his companions, or being selfish anymore. But it manifests in never asking for help for himself. In extremely high expectations and a crippling fear of failing. In a determination and unhealthy manner of pushing to physical and mental limits.
---
11 - It's that momentary respite where he can finally breathe. He's deep in his grief because in the last couple years alone, he'd become orphaned and fully believed he lost all his family. And just moments ago, Asgard.
And even though that deep annoyance and resentment to Loki still lingers, his relief that his brother had survived and, seemingly, was on a better path. He wouldn't expect a lack of mischief, or suddenly a completely good moral compass..
But watching his brother catch the object physically in his hand, proof that he'd shown up and hadn't absconded off the ship somehow, gave Thor hope. Hope that there was a better future on the horizon with their time to relocate.
The smile on his brother's face made Thor feel like they were kids again. With no pressure of the throne on Thor's shoulders, and no favoritism flaunted in Loki's face - at least not completely. They were brothers, joyfully running through their mother's gardens trying to catch one another. They are brothers, now older, standing across from one another, with nothing but their now reforming bond. It gave Thor a deep appreciation for those he still has in his life, and to his own growth to becoming a much better leader than he'd once envisioned. There was no more power, there was just reliance. Community. Family.

The synopsis looks great too 👀
“So many worlds, so little time. Infinite possibilities, creating infinite realities. Long have I watched the trickster god sow chaos. But…what if Loki saved Asgard from Tony Stark’s revenge?
Thor—Son of Odin, God of Thunder, wielder of the hammer Mjolnir—is dead. And Loki is responsible.
It was only meant to be a joke—tampering with the Destroyer, changing Thor’s course to Midgard—a bit of mischief with a chance of maiming. But Loki’s harmless prank spiraled out of control, unleashing death and destruction on New York City and the heroes sworn to protect it.
Loki is the God of Mischief — but he knows, deep down, that he never truly deserved to stand next to their father’s golden child Thor, as two true sons of Odin.
Yet, he cannot even endure his exile in peaceful isolation. A Valkyrie — Hel-bent on carrying out her oath to Thor — barges into his trailer-home with his brother’s final words from the beyond: a plea to find a certain Dr.
When Asgard looks to Loki for salvation, he must answer the question: Am I truly worthy?”
