Something considered normal would rarely be considered wrong.
So, registering your soulmate’s image via looking in a mirror at 18 and having a photo snapped had never worried you.
Everyone did it.
It was normal.
It was safe.
It was how most people found their soulmates, and even then some just didn’t.
This early spring day started as every day usually did. You got up and ready for work, took public transport to the office, and logged in at 9 a.m.
Lunch came and went, spent with the coworkers you got along with best, all venting about the small annoyances of the morning. You all returned to the office and the afternoon crawled by.
Last minute, your boss asked you to finish a report now rather than tomorrow morning and you waved goodbye to your co-workers with a shrug and a put-upon smile. They’d all been in your position at one time or another. No-one found it strange.
The report dragged on for a few hours and you had no idea why it couldn’t wait until tomorrow, but your boss was hardly known for his patience. He at least had the decency to stay behind too.
You sighed and printed a quick copy before knocking on the door to your boss’s office.
He called out and told you to come in, taking the report when you handed it over. His eyes barely scanned it before he spoke again; “Hey, I know it’s late, but we have a visitor in the conference room. Go keep them company, will you? It will just take a couple of minutes.”
You bit back the sigh and the roll of your eyes, knowing both could lose you your job. Stupid, tight ass boss. “No problem, boss,” were the words that came out of your mouth, a false smile before you turned and left - heading to the conference room.
You took the liberty of rolling your eyes hard before you plastered the smile back on and pushed the door open. “Hello.” You stepped into the room and held out your hand as you gave your name. “Mr. Dickson is sorry to keep you waiting, but how can I help you?”
Not the normal sort of client, if a client he was. Most clients showed up in suits or some sort of business attire, but this man wore a black T-shirt, combats, and a jacket certainly not of the suit kind.
“Brock Rumlow.” He smirked over at you and you saw the way his eyes gave you a once over. Slowly. Urgh. Double ugh when he continued with; “No problem at all, sweetheart. Don’t suppose you could get me a coffee?”  He nodded over to the machine as he eased back into his seat.
“Of course, sir,” you answered with a smile.
“Feel free to grab yourself one, too. Your boss sent you in here to keep me company, huh?”
“Something like that, Mr. Rumlow.” The pot only needed warming before you poured two cups and offered him one, taking a seat opposite the man.
“I hope he doesn’t make you stay this late all the time, I hate it when my boss makes me work overtime.” He snorted and rolled his eyes as he took a sip of his coffee. “Do this, do that, clean up some mess, collect an alien’s soulmate, kill that politician, clean up more mess. Not a day’s rest I tell ya.”
You nodded politely, staring down at your cup as you fully processed his words. Aliens, soulmates… killing politicians? You didn’t know which was the most out there. “I-’m sorry I’m not sure I follow…”
He only looked more delighted at your confusion and the way your body had stiffened. “Well, you see, sweetheart, there’s this guy, Loki, who showed up outta nowhere and, see, he talks a big game about taking over the Earth and we figured, seeing as you’re his soulmate, that he might rethink those big ideas if we offer you up instead.” Brock shrugged as if this was just casual conversation and didn’t have you frozen in your seat. “’Course, if that doesn’t work, maybe threatening to harm ya will change his tune. But what do I know about aliens? I’m just part of the STRIKE team.”
Brock smiled, as though he hadn’t just threatened you or spouted what sounded like absolute bullshit. A beat passed as you stared into the cup in your hands, eyes unseeing. “So why don’t we-”
He growled angrily as you threw the coffee and the cup containing it at him and jolted to your feet, running for the door, pulling it open-
Your short-lived escape attempt ended when another similarly dressed and built man stepped into view. His hands clamped down on your arms and the panic really set in as you protested and tried to escape. “Let me go!” You kicked and thrashed, hoping the noise might cause your boss to call the cops, but that small slice of hope was soon ripped from you. He appeared from his office, face like thunder.
“You said this would be quick, hurry up before someone hears this racket.”
Brock huffed from behind you, fingers sliding into your hair and tugging hard to drag your head back. “We coulda done this the nice way, bitch, but that’s off the table.” He pressed a cloth to your mouth, harder than necessary.
The thought of not breathing hadn’t even crossed your mind before the fumes entered your body and you soon slumped into unconsciousness.
Tumblr media
You woke already knowing you weren’t at home. Everything felt off and you hadn’t even opened your eyes yet as you laid on what felt like a bed. You took a shallow breath, trying to remember, but everything before falling asleep stayed fuzzy at the edges.
You had been to work and… right, your boss had made you stay late and there had been coffee and…
Your eyes snapped open but so far it seemed like you were alone. The edge of the bed wasn’t far from the wall and you hesitated before rolling over. Good. No-one there either and this side of the wall had windows.
You shuffled over to them, eyebrows furrowing at their size. Small and curved at the edges. you slid the blind up to be met with the sight of clouds and uninterrupted sky.
You scrambled to the edge of the bed and the one door that led in and out of the room. “Hey! Hey!” you yelled, banging on the door, fear skittering through you. How long ago had last night been? What time was it now? Where were you now?
“Quit ya banging!” A stern thump that made the door rattle had you stumbling back and falling down to sit on the edge of the bed. “We’re nearly there, no need to get your panties in a twist, bitch.” It sounded like the man you’d met in the office… Brock if you remembered correctly.
He’d certainly changed his tune, but you had thrown coffee at him. Bastard deserved it.
“Where are we going?!” You had no idea if he would answer, if anyone would. Did it even really matter?
You were to be offered up as some consolation prize to an alien invader in the hopes he might go away.
You weren’t convinced of the plan; who would change their plans for the mere idea and appearance of their soulmate. You probably wouldn’t if you were in Loki’s position.
“New York,” came the answer before you heard footsteps leave the door.
You sank to the bed and flopped back on it, unsure what to do with yourself or for the rest of the flight.
Tumblr media
You sat in what had to be some kind of interrogation room, a bit rich considering these guys had kidnapped you. A window made up much of the wall in front of you; the blank expanse of glass left you with nothing to look at but the reflection of your soulmate. It hadn’t changed for several years, but you’d noticed recently his hair had grown longer and it didn’t seem as well kept as before.
The sharp lines of his face had always left you flustered, but now they left you worried at the gaunt paleness that clung to him. What had happened? You couldn’t possibly know, you didn’t even know his name. Well, you hadn’t.
Loki. An alien. An invader.
You continued to sit silently in the chair, not knowing that an agent and your soulmate’s brother were busy deciding your fate.
“Father will not be pleased. Midgardians are not welcome to our realm and Loki is likely to remain in prison the remainder of her short life.” Thor spoke calmly but firmly. “Besides which, you tell me she is dangerous? A criminal? Why should Asgard take a criminal of Midgard to the golden realm? I do not think our prison is the best place to introduce them.” Thor couldn’t be certain, but he doubted the two would get along from what SHIELD had told him.
His brother would likely perceive another criminal as a threat or he would keep his guard up. Loki was not one for letting people in so easily. Especially not now. Whether she deserved kindness or not, he doubted Loki would afford her any.
“What if your brother wants to bring her?”
Thor’s eyes narrowed, giving the agent a sidelong glance. Hardly normal to accept a prisoner’s request… but he did love his brother fiercely - despite his recent tricks. “If,” Thor stressed, “Loki wants to bring her… I may agree,” Thor conceded. But he doubted such a thing would happen. “I will speak with him.”
Neither you or Thor knew the thin thread by which your fate hung.
Tumblr media
The car rumbled through central park, you seated in the back wearing handcuffs and some gag like thing over your mouth that stopped you speaking. You still wore the bright orange scrubs and white shirt as though they’d plucked you from a prison somewhere.
You were free of Rumlow at least, you didn’t even know if the agent driving knew that you hadn’t been picked up from a penitentiary. This new one aligned more with what you imagined an ‘agent’ to be. Black suit, white shirt, sunglasses. Very Men In Black, which, ironic, since you were about to meet two aliens.
The car came to a stop and you looked out at the people milling around. You only recognised two for sure - one of them being your soulmate. Tony Stark confused you, for a moment, before you recalled his shift into heroism the last few years.
An equally tall, blond man held your soulmate's arm just above his elbow, so you had to assume this was the brother you’d heard murmurs about.
Your car door opened and a hand grabbed similarly below your elbow to help you out. Curious eyes turned on you and all you could do was silently, desperately, plead for someone to step in. Someone to take the gag off. You just needed one of them to be curious.
“Er… I don’t remember any plus ones going out to this little party.” Tony Stark gave the agent at your side a look over the top of his sunglasses, his gaze briefly sliding to you.
“She’s Loki’s soulmate,” the agent replied, no judgement but not much other emotion in his voice. He turned and marched you towards the pair of aliens.
“Now, hang on a minute.” A different voice objecting this time and you craned your head behind you to see a blond dressed in a check shirt and a brown jacket. You thought you might have seen his face somewhere before, but you weren’t exactly firing on all cylinders and you couldn’t place him. “She might be a criminal of some kind, but you’re going to send her to another planet?”
“I’m sorry, Captain, but it seems she may be more dangerous than a Midgardian prison could handle,” Thor answered. “My brother told me he has made many a visit to her on Earth.” Fucking news to you! Your eyes flicked to Loki, brows furrowed, but he didn’t meet your gaze. “I do not think he could have taught her many of the tricks he uses, but SHIELD assures me that they have indeed met before.”
Now you understood the reason for the gag. Can’t contradict made up bullshit if you can’t speak. You were about to turn a furious gaze on the agent that brought you out of the car when the soft clinking of a chain drew your attention.
Loki curled a chained arm around your waist, grip firm, and tugged your back flush against him. The action forestalled anything you had been about to do or say and you attempted to catch his eye. He ducked his head and you felt the cool press of his own gag to the top of your head.
The gesture had you stilling in surprise and seemed to only cement the story that Thor had been spun.
You felt eyes on the two of you, studying intently, before Loki’s little stunt seemed to be accepted as proof and preparations began again. You assumed for travel to this Asgard, but how exactly? There weren’t any space ships nearby and you were fairly certain the car you’d arrived in wasn’t about to escape Earth’s atmosphere.
Something with Loki here?
Thor reappeared in your line of sight holding one of two handles of some canister. A blue cube glowed inside, but it didn’t make any more sense than it had a few minutes ago. He caught your eye, his look intense and serious. “Make sure you do not let go or you will be lost to space as Loki was before he came here.”
You felt like and meaning lay beneath the words, something you were supposed to glean from them, but still struggling to process what had happened the last few days you simply nodded and took hold of the other handle. Loki’s hand settled beside yours, overlapping slightly. Unsure if this stemmed from kindness, or an attempt to be sure you didn’t let go. or something else to drag you further into the fiction and lies that had been created around you... Well, you had no way to protest, anyway.
You hoped nobody would spend too long looking for you. Maybe the local police had already told everyone you were dead, covering up the act that you still couldn’t quite understand.
You wondered if you would ever see Earth again after this.
Your hand unknowingly reached for Loki’s at your waist, gripping tightly in fear of what was to come and in sorrow that you didn’t know what mess you were leaving behind.
Silence as Thor turned the handle, anticlimactic, but you felt it as your stomach dropped similarly to when an elevator descends too quickly and you were pulled upwards. The blur of colours was almost too much for your eyes to bear as your vision blurred, but soon enough your feet settled on solid ground once more.
You desperately blinked back the blurring at the edges of your vision to take in the bright gold that lined the room you had landed in. Or maybe an observatory of some kind.
“Welcome home,” a deep but firm voice greeted, your eyes drawn to a man in gold armour whose eyes glowed just as brightly as the metal. He sheathed the sword into the metal stand in front of him and approached the three of you.
You thought you could see something sad in his gaze as he touched the metal on your face, drawing it easily away from you and returning your ability to speak. “I am sorry you were dragged into this mess, miss.”
“How did you…?”
“My name is Heimdall and my duty is to watch over the Nine Realms. While I cannot see all at once, and some have managed to evade my sight in the past,” At this he gave Loki a look before returning his gaze to you - eyes softening once more, “I have kept an eye on your journey these past few days.”
“Heimdall, of what do you speak?” Thor asked in utter confusion.
But you found the words and breath to speak first. “They lied to you, I’m not an inmate! I’ve never even gotten a parking ticket!” you protested, courage mounting with every word you got out. “I was just doing my job like always and a couple of thugs came to the office and kidnapped me.” A squeeze at your waist reminded you of Loki’s presence and you pulled out of his grip, turning your annoyance on him. “And we have never met! I’ve only ever seen his reflection.”
“Loki-” Thor growled at his brother, but received only a simple shrug and a look that lacked all remorse in reply. “Why did you-?”
Warm hands took your wrists and distracted you, your gaze drawn by watching Heimdall break the cuffs on your wrists as easily as if they were made of paper. “My apologies, miss. I had no way of letting anyone on Earth know of the misconception.” He didn’t smile, per se, but he seemed genuine and his greeting kind.
He took a step back and you breathed with relief to finally be free of all your chains. “At least someone knows what’s going on.” Though Loki had to have known too, so why had he lied to Thor and SHIELD? “How exactly am I supposed to get home?” you asked, looking between the two brothers as if scolding children.
“Heimdall is to use the Tesseract to restore the Bifrost and once it’s fixed, he will be able to send you home. If I can, I will return with you and explain the situation to the Avengers - they’ll be sure to help,” Thor rushed to assure you.
To be fair, they had tried, but Thor had been so convinced by SHIELD… Well, he just seemed to have gotten all mixed up in all of this so you nodded. “So, I’ll just have to wait until the bridge is fixed?”
Thor smiled brightly this time, like the sun bursting through on a cloudy day. “Yes, just until it is fixed. I’m sure Mother will be happy to provide hospitality.”
“I see my son is already volunteering me.” Her voice sounded light and happy despite the situation, drifting over from some as yet unseen doorway off to the side.
“Your Majesty.” Heimdall bowed to her and you quickly followed suit - you didn’t want to end up in the dungeons for however long it would take to fix the Bifrost.
You straightened up to find her gentle smile turned your way, her beauty and motherly face stealing your breath. “I’m glad to finally meet you, though you are such a familiar sight that I feel as though I know you already.” Her arm settled softly around your shoulders and she started to steer you along the beautiful bridge you stood on.
Loki huffed behind you and you wondered if he might be embarrassed? No, probably not.
“I’m sorry you were brought here under such circumstances, but welcome to Asgard.” Weird space travel and spy stories coming to life aside, maybe spending some time in the golden city laid out before you wouldn’t be so bad.

Shattered Dreams
Summary: Soulmates are meant to be the one thing that makes you feel whole; but you've just been shattered.
Pairing: Loki x Fem!Reader
Warning(s): ANGST, mentions of suicidal thoughts, heartbreak, sad!reader, mentions of soulmate bond,
Tumblr media
You sat in the crowded hall, watching from the sidelines as Loki and his soulmate exchanged their vows of everlasting love.
The moment that was seen as beautiful to all of Asgard was soul-crushing for you. After all, how many people can say that they saw their soulmate get married to another?
You remember it as if it was yesterday; the day you finally saw those stunning emeralds. It was the day that changed everything; the day that shattered your hopes and dreams.
Because, although you finally saw colour; Loki didn't.
So, as the ceremony began to reach it's final stages, you quietly slipped away from the crowd and into the gardens. The one place where you could be alone with your thoughts; no matter how horrid they may be.
You walked to the closest bench and sat down, as tears began to slip out of your eyes. The pain in your chest was too much to bare. And it didn't help that your mind was stuck on the 'what ifs'.
But you were pulled out of your thoughts by the sound of footsteps; those all-too familiar footsteps.
Pulling your hands away from your face, your eyes met those sparkling green irises that you loved.
"Y/n, I wanted to talk to you," he said softly, taking the seat next to you.
You didn't trust yourself to speak, so you simply nodded, your eyes now fixed to the grass floor underneath you.
Loki hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I- I know that today was difficult for you, and I'm so sorry for any hurt that you being here today caused. But you have no idea how much it means to me that you've shown up today."
A bitter laugh escaped your lips. "An apology isn't going to fix anything, Loki. I loved you, and you chose someone else."
He reached out to take your hand, "I know, but I am sorry. But you have to understand, I couldn't ignore my connection with her. It was too compelling."
You shook your head, tears still streaming down your face. "I know how compelling the soulmate bond is. And I understand, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. It doesn't make the fact that you married someone else any less painful."
His face softened, and he reached to wipe your tears away. "I wish I could make it go away, Y/n. I wish I could take away all your pain."
You looked up at him, your eyes now filled with a mix of sorrow and anger. "You can't Loki. You don't get to come here and make everything better. You made your choice; you chose her. And I have to live with the consequences."
He nodded, his eyes filled with regret. "I know. But I just want you to know that I care about you, Y/n. And that I always will."
You felt your heart shatter into millions of pieces at his words. "It's too late for that, Loki. You made your choice, and I have to live with the fact that I'll never be with the person I love; the person I was destined to be with."
They both sat in silence for a while, the both of them lost in their own thoughts. You knew that this was your goodbye, there was no moving past this for you.
As Loki stood up to leave, he turned to look at her one last time. "Goodbye, Y/n. I hope you're able to find happiness one day."
Tumblr media
It was dark now. You had been sitting at the bench for what must've been at least a couple hours by now.
Eventually, you stood up, and walked towards the edge of the garden, overlooking the cliffs and crashing waves in the cavern below. You felt numb; shattered beyond repair.
As you looked out into the abyss, you couldn't help but think about all the moments you had shared with Loki. All the stolen glances and secret smiles. The late-night conversations and moments of pure bliss.
But now, it was all gone. You would never have those moments with Loki again. You would never have Loki.
A small part of you wanted to jump off the cliff, to end the pain once and for all. But you knew that wasn't the answer. You had to keep going, even though every step of the way felt like a knife stabbing your heart repeatedly.
As you turned to leave, you caught a glimpse of yourself hanging in the mirror on the garden wall. You barely recognised the person staring back at you. Your eyes were swollen from tears, your face was pale, and your hair was a downright mess.
You knew you couldn't go back to the wedding reception. You couldn't bring yourself to face the happy couple and pretend that everything as okay. You had to leave; you had to get away from the pain.
You quickly walked back to the bench and grabbed what little items you brought with you, and then left the garden. As you walked through the hallways of the castle, you could hear the faint sound of music and laughter from the reception.
It all felt like a cruel joke, a reminder of everything that you had lost. You couldn't take it anymore.
As you reached the grand entry, you hesitated before opening them. You stepped out into the cold night air, the wind whipping your hair into your face.
You took one last look at the castle, knowing that it would be the last time you would ever see it. You turned and walked away, her heart heavy with grief and regret once more.
As you walked down the path, even more tears freely flowing down your face, you knew that you could never be the same. The love that you had for Loki had consumed your entire being, and now it had ultimately destroyed you.
You had no idea where you were going, or what you would do next. All you knew is that you could never go back to the life you had lived before. You had to start over, and find a way to live without the person you loved.
But you knew deep down that you would never be happy again. The pain of your unrequited love would haunt you for the rest of your life.
Tumblr media
A/N that was probably the most angsty thing I've ever written.
Also, please know that you're never alone, and that there is always someone willing to listen. If you ever need to rant about anything, my inbox is always open.

finding out his soulmate is depressed hcs ; loki
Tumblr media
requested by ; anonymous (19/05/22)
fandom(s) ; marvel cinematic universe / mcu
fandom masterlist(s) ; here
character(s) ; loki laufeyson
outline ; “request: i'm desperate for a soulmate au. it doesn't make if it's between loki or wanda because i love them both but i'd love your take on the soulmate au. it'd be cool if the reader had depression, cause same. thank you!”
note ; this is going off of the au where there is a ‘red string’ connecting people and is based on the avenger!loki concept
additional note ; the references to the reader’s depression are extremely brief but present
warning(s) ; canon typical references to violence and angst
loki spent the vast majority of his life thinking that he was damned — the only person in asgard to be without a soulmate
wishing, praying, reading up on anything and everything he could just to scrape together some tiny crumb of hope that one day his string would manifest
that he wasn’t truly alone
a thousand years passed him by
then two
then three
by his fourth he’d started to lose hope and as he started to fast approach his fifth he’d given up all together
the black sheep of his family; unworthy even in the eyes of the universe
it was like some sort of sick joke
but he never told a soul, lying through his teeth as naturally as he breathed and telling tall tales of his golden string and how he was waiting for the right moment to pursue his soulmate
but they didn’t exist
and it hurt more than he’d ever let show
until one day, a quarter century shy of his five thousandth year, he awoke to find a golden string wound tightly around his ring finger — precisely where one might put a wedding band
he shook of the drowsiness and bleariness of sleep in seconds, inspecting the deceptively fragile twine with rapt interest
flicking, tugging, strumming and winding it tighter and tighter — spooling it between his fingers curiously as it continued onwards into the distance without effort or strain
always having the same amount of tautness to it no matter how hard or how far he pulled
gold spun as thin as spider silk yet, as present to the world as a light breeze yet as heavy and palpable as traditional battle regalia as he brushed his fingertip along its surface
tangibly intangible, paradoxically present and yet not so, visible and invisible
exactly as the old stories had told — and there, in the distance somewhere, was his fated other half on the unseeable other end of the string
loki wanted nothing more than to meet you, but he knew well enough that the string’s late appearance meant that he still had a long while to wait — so, instead, he busied himself with his usual routine
messing with his brother, studying with his mother and proving his worth as an heir to asgard to his father
… and i’m sure that we don’t need to explain what happened in the interim so let’s skip forwards until after the 2012 incident…
the last thing he wanted was to spend his sentence waiting on a bunch of mortals — confined to a small space filled with creatures that despised him and that were far below him in every way
and he did very little to hide his disdain for the situation — which was mirrored by his ‘landlord’, stark, who also made it very well known that he didn’t want ‘reindeer games’ living in his tower
loki, in return, went to let out another sarcastic remark about the man’s ignorance before he caught sight of the very thing he’d been ignoring for the better part of a year and the words died on his throat
leaving him completely speechless for the first time since anyone had seen him after his attempt to take his own life back in asgard
after millennia of feeling so terribly alone he could see the other end of his string and it was attached to… well… you
a mortal who looked terribly detached from their surroundings, just carrying out some standard busywork in the background of his custody announcement like it was nothing at all
if he hadn’t have been forced to wear those damned cuffs he’d have peered into your mind by now — but it didn’t take a psychic to see something in you that he had been trying to conceal in himself for a while
loki didn’t speak to you that day, nor did he get the chance for a good few months as your responsibilities kept you separated to different areas of the tower
he, as a (very unwilling) member of the avengers initiative, was forced to keep to the top few floors for training, briefing and other such things
and you, who he found to be a standard member of stark industries, tended to stay on the lower floors of the tower unless you were called upon by your boss
it was frustrating, to say the very least, but the separation gave loki the time to consider his next steps — and his situation as a whole
consider the fact that he’s destined to be with a mortal of all beings — consider the differences in experience, strength and life span
consider the fact that you likely fear or potentially even hate him for his actions against your home world — that you’d probably scorn or mock him because of his actions (and he’d deserve it, he lamented)
consider the fact that he saw part of himself in your eyes and that a mortal of all things might just be the one to understand him
consider how to approach you in the first place
in the end he just about manages to catch you as you’re walking out of a meeting with stark and some higher level agents of s.h.i.e.l.d — coughing and gesturing to the string between the two of you
for a moment you just stare at him, blinking and looking between his neutral expression and the golden string — before cracking something of an awkward smile and introducing yourself (which he returns with a kiss on the back of your hand)
and you’re too busy to stay for long, and he knows this, so he sends you on your way with the promise to meet again soon
but he also says something that sticks with you as you hurry off to your next meeting — for the rest of the day, in fact
‘i understand,’
a simple, unassuming phrase spoken so quietly and genuinely that you might have thought you’d dreamt it had it not been for the earnest look on his face when he spoke
(though even that disappeared a fraction of a second later)
the end of your brief exchange that left you questioning everything you were told about him
his tendency to isolate himself according to thor (and, later, observations from the other avengers)
his habit of lashing out when pressed on certain topics
his lack of appetite for the entirety of the time you (and most other humans) had known him
his apathy towards his own well-being and, well, what he’d done before ending up on earth which had been mentioned in whispers around the office
maybe you had more in common with your soulmate than you realised — but that could be discussed at your next meeting

Strings of Destiny
Tumblr media
Loki, Son of Odin, had always been a master of illusions and trickery. But little did he know that his most enchanting discovery would not be through magic, but through an invisible string that connected him to his soulmate.
In the realm where soulmates were destined to find each other, Loki wandered through the cosmic tapestry of fate, searching for the elusive thread that would lead him to the one meant for him. One day, as he strolled through the ethereal weave, he felt a gentle tug on his consciousness.
Curious and intrigued, Loki followed the invisible string that seemed to materialize before him. It twisted and turned, leading him through realms and dimensions, until he found himself in the midst of Midgard, the realm of mortals.
There, in the chaotic beauty of Earth, Loki's eyes met those of Y/N. The connection between them was undeniable, and the string that bound their souls shimmered with a radiant glow. Y/N, unaware of the mystical forces at play, felt an inexplicable pull towards the enigmatic Loki.
As they crossed paths in a crowded city square, the invisible string tightened, drawing them closer. Loki, captivated by the mortal before him, couldn't help but be amazed at the intricacies of fate that had brought them together.
"Y/N," Loki whispered, his voice carrying a mixture of surprise and delight. Y/N turned, meeting Loki's gaze with a mixture of curiosity and recognition.
It was in that moment that they both realized the true nature of their connection. The string, woven by the hands of destiny, had led them to each other. Loki, the god of mischief, had found his match in the most unexpected of places.
As they embraced their newfound bond, the cosmic tapestry of fate continued to weave, creating a story that transcended realms. Loki and Y/N, entwined by the strings of destiny, embarked on a journey that would defy expectations and challenge the very fabric of their existence.
And so, the god of mischief and his mortal soulmate embraced the enchanting dance of destiny, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead in a world where magic and love were intertwined.

Tumblr media
“What do you mean, ‘you remember everything?’ Loki’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, still holding you firmly in his arms.
Happy tears were now brimming in your eyes, threatening to spill over and confess the unbridled joy overwhelming your heart. But it was Loki. Your Loki. That thought made the first tear fall and your prince was quick to wipe it away.
“Shhh, shhh, you’re safe now,” He cooed, clearly thinking you were talking about Stephen’s assault.
You shook your head, “No, I remember you.” Letting out a shuddered breath, you continued, “I remember us.”
The shocked expression on Loki’s face was enough to twist your lips into a goofy, love drunk smile. You watched as his eyes darted all over your face, looking for a lie. When he did not find one, the smile that split his face took your breath away. Loki cupped your face with his hands, his thumbs gently stroking the happy tears that continued to fall wordlessly down your cheek.
“Truly? You remember…everything?” His eyes searched yours, uncertainty swirling in his crystal blue irises that asked the question: Do you remember choosing me?
You lifted your hands up and placed them on top of his that still rested on your wet cheeks, “I remember it all. Me coming here. Me forgetting you. Even throwing the drinking glass at you,” You both laughed at that, the memory of that traumatic day coming to the forefront of your mind.
“I remember deciding to stay…with you.” You heard Loki let out a sigh of relief and you didn’t miss how his eyes flickered down to your lips. It was all the invitation you needed before you surged forward and crashed your lips to his. The surprised squeak that bubbled up from him, made you smile against the kiss. It took no time at all for Loki’s initial shock to wear off, now taking control as the kiss became more heated and passionate. His strong arms pulled you impossibly closer, scooping you into his lap as his tongue swept against yours.
The heat, the longing, the joy of finally having him after everything drove your body to act on its own accord. Your hips ground against his and the sinful moan that erupted from your throat seemed to shake Loki out of the moment. He pulled away from you, making you whine.
“We shouldn’t,” He breathlessly said, lips swollen from your kisses, “I can’t…with what just happened…it wouldn’t be…” He stammered, struggling to find the words, but his eyeline went straight to the dumpster. The dumpster that held Stephen’s lifeless body. The thought that he cared about the fragile state of your heart, how your trauma may be affecting your mind. The lingering touches of your ex’s hands felt like ghosts on your skin; buzzing and unwanted. You just wanted it to go away. To forget.
“As sweet as it is that you care about what just happened, I just want to move on from the past. Those first two weeks were a whirlwind, a dream I clearly never wanted to wake from,” You chuckled a bit, remembering how you thought he was a dream for the longest time, “And I am sorry that you had to endure these last few months on your own, but you are my soulmate. I am yours, and you are mine, and I don’t want to waste another second of my life now that you are a part of it. I…I just want you, Loki.”
Without another word, Loki stood up, pulling you up with him. In a flash, he was out of his Asgardian leathers and back in civilian clothes; a sight that always went straight to your core. He took your hand in his and led you back to the Tower. Past the dumpster, through the Tower doors, and up to the elevator to the floor where his apartment was. The quiet was not uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Instead, a new tension lingered there. Shy glances, bitten lips, and the occasional quiet giggle. It made your heart swell with hope and relief for a better future. A future that felt so secure, so safe, with endless possibilities. As long as Loki was holding your hand, anything was possible.
Before you knew it, you were inside his little apartment within the Tower; a far cry from the palace he once lived in. You had been here several times before as his friend without memory of your romantic relationship, what your relationship truly was: a soulmate bond. Everything was the same; the dark green paint, the rows and rows of old books, and the hallway that led down to his bedroom. His hand lightly squeezed yours, pulling your attention from the hallway. He brought your hand up to his lips, kissing the back of it with a small smile.  You smiled softly back at him, and he led you down the hallway.
You had never seen his bedroom before, but it was just as much him as was the rest of the apartment. A large bed, fit for a king, that was covered in soft, silky emerald sheets loomed in front of you. A bed that held a lot of meaning, of promises, but still the fear that what you had, what you just recently found again was going to slip through your fingers again like grains of sand.
The soft click of the bedroom door broke you from your thoughts and you turned to face the man, the God, that you loved. Love? Was that what this was? The soulmate bond came so easy to you, so easy to accept, but the idea that you loved Loki shook you to your core. The terrified look that was now plastered on your face brought him quickly to you, placing his hands on your shoulders, grounding you.
“Dove, we don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. We have each other now and the rest of your lives ahead of us. There is no rush.” He stroked your shoulders and you sighed.
“Some lives are longer than others,” You said sadly, and the acknowledgement of your mortality brought his hands to a dead stop, “Our connection, our bond is so incredible, Loki, but I am still an average mortal girl. You are a God, and Avenger….Loki, I love you with all that I have, but I don’t deserve you.”
Loki’s face became stern, his voice low and deep, “Don’t you ever say anything like that again.” He stared into your eyes, a burning intensity that left no room for argument, but still you shied away and turned from him. With the gentle hook of his finger of his chin, he turned you back to him. His eyes were softer now, but still conveyed the seriousness of his words.
“Dove, it is I that does not deserve you. You helped me see myself as more than a monster, more than a stolen relic that was destined to be tossed away.” He let out a shuttered breath, “Destined to die.”
He now held your head between both of his hands, as he left lingering kisses across your forehead, each of your cheeks, your nose, and finally your lips.
“I love you, Dove, more than words can ever say. Every moment with you is one that I cherish with my whole heart. So, you see,” He murmured against your lips, “You are far from average. You are a Goddess worth kneeling for.”
And with that, Loki sunk to his knees in front of you. He grasped both your hands in his, tenderly kissing your knuckles as he gazed back up at you with glassy eyes. Immediately, you slung your arms around him, joining him on the floor and kissing him with all the pent of love, and passion that had built up over the past few months. He held you tightly against him, like you would vanish if he let you go. You moved on from his lips to latch yours on the soft skin of his neck, making him groan. The sound went straight to your core, and your hands became tangled in his long, inky locks.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” You whispered against the flesh of his neck like a prayer. The combination of your words and his skin tasted sweet in your mouth. You were hopelessly addicted to Loki, and you needed more. Pulling away, your eyes took him in. His normally pale skin was flushed. His lips were plump, and swollen from your onslaught; parted from soft, breathless pants. His was hair messy and still tangled around your fingers. But his eyes remained locked on you, filled with adoration and love. He was just as addicted as you.
He was beautiful.
“Make love to me, Loki.” You said breathlessly.
His eyes went wide, and it made a small giggle bubble up from your chest. The shock was cute, endearing even, because it was obvious that was the intent as soon as you walked back to the Tower.
“Are you sure? We can…,” He swallowed thickly, as if to swallow his growing desire for you, “We can wait.”
You ground your hips against his from your position on his lap, making him groan again. The sound was so sweet in your ears, you continued to grind against his already hard length; the delicious friction against your clit already building the pleasure within you.
“I am sure, Loki.” You leaned forward, placing a long, wet kiss against his cheek, “My prince,” before moving on to bit at the sensitive skin under his ear, “My King.”
It was all the convincing Loki needed, before he scooped you up in his arms as if you weighed nothing. You couldn’t help but giggle, and Loki grinned at you, proud to have you in his arms.
“As my Queen wishes,” He carried you to the bed before gently placing you on the soft fabric of the sheets. He crawled on the bed after you, hovering over you as his eyes greedily took in your body now on his bed.
“I have dreamed of this for months. Norns, I love you so much.” He confessed, before capturing you in another heated kiss, pouring out all his passion and longing for you with each movement of his lips. He pulled away to look back at you again and you felt your skin flush from both your arousal and his scrutinizing gaze. You imagined you looked as fucked out as him.
“So, beautiful.” He crawled down your body, grabbing the hem of your shirt before pulling it over your head exposing your bra. His large hands wandered over the lace of the cups, making your back arch into his touch. The God of Mischief grinned at your eagerness, before helping you out of your bra as well. As soon as your skin was exposed, he was upon you – licking, biting, and sucking at the sensitive skin of your breasts.
Your hands flew to his hair again, as his tongue swirled around one of your nipples while his fingers tweaked and teased the other. Gasps and moans were erupting from your body like a symphony and Loki knew how to play you perfectly until you were a writhing mess underneath him.
His mouth switch sides, giving your other nipple just as much attention with his tongue as his hand started its descent down your belly, towards the hem of your pants. Your hips involuntary bucked towards his hand and he rewarded you with sharp, yet teasing bite against the side of your breast.
“Patience, Dove. I want to savor this.” Despite his words, he made quick work of ridding you of your pants, leaving you in just your panties. The sight of the damp spot on your panties, the evidence of the arousal caused by him, making him feral.  Loki felt you tap his shoulders and his eyes snapped up to yours, concern apparent.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
You smiled, reassuring him, “I think things are a bit uneven here, My King.” You motioned to the fact that Loki was still fully clothed while you were just left in your soaked panties. He huffed out a breathless laugh.
“Oh. Right.” Loki went to unbutton his shirt, but you were quick to stop him. You sat up, catching Loki’s lingering gaze on your naked chest. Grinning, you started to slowly unbutton his shirt.
“I want to savor this,” You said, echoing his words back to him. He gave you a pointed look that you knew held no bite and allowed you to undress him. As you unbuttoned his shirt, you placed kisses down the center of his chest, before caressing the hard muscles of his pectorals and sliding the fabric off his shoulders to fall against the bed.
Now, it was your turn to stare as you took him in. Your fingertips lightly trailed against the skin of his collar bones, his biceps, and down his stomach – making him shiver and twitch. Your exploration took your further, now unbuttoning his dress slacks and pushing them back his hips to expose the soft fabric of his boxers and his straining, hard cock that waited for you underneath.
“Like what you see- hrmph.” His cheeky comment died on his lips as you gripped his length over the fabric, making him hiss and moan with each stroke. His head fell on your shoulder, biting the flesh there as you slipped your hand past the waistband and finally taking ahold of him properly. Your eyes went wide as you felt him fully against the palm of your hand. You had expected him to be big; he is a God after all, but it momentarily made you worry how this was going to work. But his sweet moans of pleasure tickling your ears spurred you on.
You continued to stroke him, your thumb swirling around the head of his leaking cock until he was thrusting into your palm, chasing his pleasure. The sight had your pussy clenching, desperate for him, but watching him shamelessly fuck your hand like some wanton whore made the wait worth it. Until he suddenly stopped.
Loki gripped your wrist, pulling you away from him and hissing at his own denial, “Norns, are you a Goddess or a witch? If we continue like this, I am afraid our night will be over too soon and as I said…I intend to savor every moment.”
He pushed you down back against the plush mattress, before making quick work of removing the rest of his pants and boxers. You bit your lip at the sight of his now freed cock bouncing against his hard stomach. The God flashed you a toothy grin at your oogling, winking at you before starting his onslaught of licks and teasing bites against your inner thighs. He settled in on the bed, pulling down the sides of your panties and down your legs, exposing your wet and waiting core to him.
He licked his lips, shamelessly staring at your hot pussy like it was his favorite meal, “Is all this for me?” You went to answer him, hopefully with a witty quip of your own, but any chance of that ended when his mouth consumed you like a man starved. With each expert lick and suck, you knew how he truly earned the title ‘silvertongue’. Each gasp and moan spurred him on more, throwing out his promise of ‘savoring the moment’ and instead quickly building you up to orgasm. Teasing licks of the tip of his tongue against your clit had you arching your back off the mattress, begging for more.
His lips latched onto your clit, gingerly sucking as his fingers circled your entrance. First he entered you with one finger, making you squirm, before quickly adding another and stretching your walls against his long digits. His fingers curled against that special spot, making your eyes roll back as you felt your orgasm on the precipice, ready to overwhelm you with tingly pleasure.
“I’m gonna…I’m gonna cum, Loki.” You gasped, your hands scrambling for purchase in his hair. Loki moaned against your clit after a harsh tug against his scalp, sending vibrations up your center that almost sent you over the edge.
“Cum for me, Dove. Cum on my face and let me taste you,” The combination of his sinful words, his deep voice, and swipe of his tongue against your clit made the tension snap within you, sending wave after wave of pleasure through your body. Your toes curled against the muscles of his back as he held you in place, helping you ride out your high with gentle licks.
You were still seeing stars when you saw Loki’s smiling face above you, his mouth still glistening with your juices. His gaze caught yours and his stuck out his tongue, swiping it against his lips to drink in the remnants of your sweet nectar. Immediately, you reached out for him and dragged him down to you, capturing him in a kiss. You tasted yourself on him as your tongues dueled for dominance and it brought a fresh wave of wetness to your core.
“I want you, Loki. Please.” You begged, pushing your hips against his weeping cock that laid proudly against your supple thighs.
“I love hearing you beg, Dove.” He growled, “And I am going to love hearing you scream my name even more when you cum around my cock.”
Loki gripped his length, guiding it to your entrance before slowly pushing in and swallowing your moans with another heated kiss. The stretch from his cock was delicious, but the sting still made you hiss in both pleasure and pain, making Loki pause.
“Are you okay?” He asked, tenderly stroking your face with his thumb. You loved that despite Loki’s feral promise to make you scream his name, his sweet nature always made sure you and your comfort was always his priority. It warmed your heart, and you placed a gentle kiss on the tip of his nose, making him smile.
“I just needed a minute.” You swiveled your hips, making you both groan, “You can keep going.” He pushed in further, finally bottoming out. You were panting underneath him, the feeling of fullness, of his every ridge rubbing against your walls already threatening to overwhelm you.
“Please, Loki,” You breathed out, “I need you to move.”
He leaned down, placing a tender kiss on your forehead before pulling his hips back to withdraw his cock almost completely from you to only push it back in. Each movement was slow, gentle, yet calculated as he hit your g-spot, again and again, making you quiver beneath him. His arms enveloped you, holding you close. Your legs wrapped around him, your ankles settling above the curve of his ass and your arms held onto his back. The scrape of your nails against his skin made him groan as he slowly fucked you into the mattress. As he made love to you.
“I love you so much,” He moaned into your ear, placing kisses against your neck. You were completely lost to him, now meeting each of his thrusts with one of your own until your hips were crashing against each other, drunk on the pleasure the other was providing. Tears started to prick at the corner of your eyes as you remembered the long path that brought you here, to finally being together with Loki.
“The light of my life. My purpose. My Goddess.” Loki panted, picking up his pace and you felt that familiar coil begin to tighten.
“Ohh, Loki, you feel so good.” Your hands moved from his back and into his hair, pulling his face to yours, “Kiss me.” His lips latched onto yours as soon as the command left your mouth. Swallowing all your moans, he snaked his hand between your bodies and began to rub your clit.
You cried out into his mouth, feeling your orgasm quickly approaching with each expert caress of his fingers against your clit.
“Loki…” You whined, lost in the sensation of the God that loved you.
“Yes, Dove, say my name.” He growled through gritted teeth. His movements becoming sloppy as he neared his own release.
“Loki!” You cried out as your orgasm hit you like a freight train, drenching his cock and clenching around him. Your face twisted up in pleasure and Loki reveled in the sight of you coming undone beneath him, sending him into his own climax. Loki bit onto your shoulder as he spilled inside of you, painting your walls white with his cum.
Loki’s hot breath fanned your cheek as you both panted, coming down from your highs. Gently, he withdrew from you, making you whine, but your displeasure only lasted for a moment. In one quick motion, he grabbed onto you and flipped you, making you squeal with giggly delight, so he was on his back, and you rested on his chest. He wrapped you in his arms, holding you tight and placing a fierce kiss on the top of your head. There was no other place you wanted to be, but the stickiness between your legs had other plans.
“I think I need to get up…get myself cleaned up.” You groaned, not wanting to move from your new comfortable spot.
He squeezed you tighter, and you hummed with contentment, “Don’t you dare move, My Lady. Allow me.” With the wave of his hand and a shimmer of green, you suddenly felt clean, refreshed, as if you had just emerged from a relaxing bath. You burrowed in closer to him, nuzzling your nose into the crook of his neck.
“Now, that is a handy skill.” You paused for a minute, considering if you wanted to open this can of worms. You decided to test your luck, “See, you are so incredible, and I am just…. average.”
You felt him let out a heavy sigh against the top of your head. The silence lingered between you two for what felt like ages, before he finally spoke, “Dove, you have bewitched me in everyway possible. It does not matter that you are mortal –“
“But it does!” You yelled, snapping your head up to look at him directly in the eye, “It does, Loki! I have what, fifty, maybe sixty years left and then what, Loki?  You’ll be all alone, and I don’t know what to do with that.” Tears started to gather in the corner of your eyes, stinging with the pain of the unknown. You were so familiar with Loki, his essence and very being as a character that you loved. He had been through so much pain, so much suffering, and dealing with that pain alone. The thought of him handling your death by himself crushed you.
“Shh, Dove, it’s fine. Let’s not talk about such things right now. Let us enjoy our time together.” His voice was unmistakably solemn, and you felt a pang of guilt for putting such sad thoughts in your mind after finally reuniting and finding happiness, “Can I fetch you anything? Something to eat?”
Loki then suddenly stilled, shifting upright, and taking you with him, “Unless…” He started but didn’t finish. You looked at him, confused and you could see the cogs turning in his brilliant mind. The answer was there, whatever it was, you just had to wait.
“Have you heard of the Golden Apples of Idunn?” Loki quickly said, practically vibrating with energy.
“Yes, of course. They give immortality….” Your eyes grew wide at his implication, “Do you have one, Loki?!”
“No, they’re all gone.” He said excitedly, and you instantly deflated. You didn’t understand why he was so enthusiastic about the solution for your mortality being gone.
“Oh.”
“Unless…” You perked back up, of course there would be more, “Unless, having an apple is something that you truly desire…”
“What are you talking about, Loki?”
He turned to you, so he was facing you properly. His hands moved wildly as he spoke with fervor, his mind running a hundred miles a minute, “You are far from average, Dove.” You rolled your eyes, but he pointed his finger, silencing any sarcasm or self-deprecating comments.
“You brought back my mother…You forget this.” He placed his hands on your shoulders, rubbing your soft skin, “You brought her back from the dead because it was what I truly desired. You made the impossible, possible…and I would argue that bringing back an extinct apple is easier than bringing back a person from Valhalla.”
“I don’t even understand how I even developed that gift…and if I even have it still, now that I am here in your world.” You paused, thinking carefully about his phrasing, “Besides, it is more about what you desire, than what I desire.”
Loki’s hands moved down your shoulders to clasp your hands in his, “These past few months, my mother and I have been doing research. Soulmate bonds are extremely rare, but a bond that travels across the multiverse is the rarest of them all. It is unheard of completely…. except for one other instance.”
You were almost afraid to ask, but your curiosity won out, “What happened to them?”
Loki frowned, squeezing your hand, “Unfortunately, one of the lovers did not survive. They dream walked, much like you did, but were not able to complete the transition of the mind into one universe.” He saw the look of sadness flit across your face, all the memories of how you almost lost each other flooding back.
“But there is one thing that I did learn from their story that I found encouraging.”
“Which is…?”
“That not only did they possess the same gift to manifest their lover’s greatest desires out of nothingness like you, but they both had the gift.”
Your eyes went wide. You never considered the fact that Loki could manifest like how you did, but who knows if you even could anymore? Before you could let your mind spiral, Loki was looking directly at you.
“So, tell me, Dove. Do you desire an eternity with me?”
There was no hesitation. Not a second of doubt. Your mouth screamed out the answer your heart and soul knew to its very core.
“More than anything.”
Loki held out his hand, palm up and closed his eyes. You watched his eyes twitch beneath his closed eyelids, his brows furrowed in intense concentration. You didn’t dare take a breath even though your lungs burned, too terrified that one single exhale would ruin any chances of this working.
His palm began to glow and sure enough, a golden apple appeared within his grasp. If it wasn’t for the fact that he could feel the magical fruit under his very fingertips, there was no way Loki would have believed this, his eyes were so wide and disbelieving. The God was a legendary magic wielder, but this was something new, a whole other level that was unknown to him. He looked from the apple that still rested in his palm towards you with watery eyes. The proof of your love, your desire to spend an eternity with him manifested into reality.
“So,” He chuckled through happy tears, offering the apple to you, “Care for a bite, Dove?”
It was the sweetest thing you ever tasted.

“When the tropes break”
Pairing: Loki x medstudent!reader
Word count: 15 K (yes, you’ve read that correctly)
Tags (this is a mess): soulmate mark, soulmate color blindness, doctor!reader AU, coffee shop AU, avengers but they all live happily in the compound like in 2012 fics, "there's only one bed! :0", oblivious idiots, slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers, found family trope.
Warnings: medical issues, needles, there's angst at some point, injuries, blood, car crash, imposter syndrome, anxiety.
A/N: I’ve been wanting to write a fic that combined all of my favourite tropes together and also make the reader a medical student, so here we are!
Tumblr media
“Look. I’m… not that kind of doctor”, tried to explain Dr. Banner, as you insisted on his door. He was wearing his pajamas, with a mug of what smelled like hot cocoa on one hand. You knew this was inappropriate —to say the least—, but you couldn't wait another second. Each time you tried to go to his office at the Avengers compound, you’d get kicked off without even having the chance to meet him.
“Please, Dr. Banner. I come from very far away, and my friend insists you’re the only one who can help me”, you tried, securing the door with your foot before he could even think of closing it before you.
Banner seemed to be thinking about it. Not yet convinced on whether giving you a chance or not —he was a busy Avenger, after all—, he asked:
“Who’s your friend?”.
“Peter Parker. He says he’s worked with you in Stark’s internship and he’s sure you…”, you began saying, but a familiar voice interrupted you from behind. You couldn’t see him, but you were sure you just heard Tony Stark chuckle from inside Banner’s house. You went dead quiet, and Banner sighed in frustration.
“Bruce, if the kid says this is worth it, it might be”, said Mr. Stark. Banner fully opened the door, to show Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff spread out on his couch, each with a mug of hot cocoa and wrapped up in cozy blankets. “Hi, dear”, he smiled at you.
You felt your insides turn upside down. Confusion, at first, for seeing the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on their pajamas, on what looked like a slumber party at three in the morning, in Dr. Banner’s living room. After the initial shock, you were struck with a huge amount of embarrassment, chilling out of fear of what they might be thinking of you. Like a bucket of ice cold water just fell on your back and you looked like you wet your pants in front of them. But they didn’t seem to be upset at your presence, or annoyed. Natasha Romanoff was surely drifting off, and Tony Stark seemed interested in your need for help —a need so desperate that you had to knock on Banner’s door at three in the morning. Truth be told, he was in for the drama.
Banner opened the door for you and gestured to you to sit on the couch by their side. You were still stiff, nervous, and stood near them while picking at your palm and wishing to not be sweating so much —they could probably sense it.
Stark stared at you in confusion, not entirely sure why you weren’t speaking yet. Banner, who seemed more accustomed to the feeling of anxiety over “celebrities”, offered you something to drink, and you accepted it kindly.
“So”, finally said Stark, watching you chug on a glass of water, “how do you know the kid? You seem older than him”.
“Slightly older”, you nodded. “He goes to science courses from my college. We ended up being friends”.
“What are you studying?”.
“Medicine. He goes to physiology classes, and asks really weird questions about genetics…”, you recalled, and soon corrected yourself, “but, of course, it’s irrelevant. I… I appreciate you letting me in. I went over five times to the compound in the past week and…”.
“You said you had a weird thing on your skin”, interrupted Banner. “Why me? You want to be a doctor, I’m sure you know plenty of them, and good. And you know I’m a biochemist and physicist. I don’t look at rashes”.
“It’s not a rash… it’s hard to explain”.
“Then show”, proposed Stark, and Banner blushed.
“No, you can’t do that. Don’t lift your shirt, I can’t attend you, much less here. Give me a description. You seem smart. Why me? Why us?”.
You sighed, fidgeting with the empty glass on your hands. You tried to recall the first thing that happened since that weird drawing appeared on you. It came with a terrible side effect, that had gotten you in a lot of trouble for the past week. No doctors would believe you, telling you you’ve gotten a tattoo while drunk. You didn’t.
“It’s a drawing, like a tattoo, but it isn’t. It appeared out of nowhere, literally. It grew on my skin from one day to another. I woke up with this strange mark on my collarbone, and next thing I heard was a loud, loud… ringing. Like bells being smashed against my eardrums. It hurt so badly. I opened my eyes again, after it happened, and… I lost color vision”.
“You… lost color vision?”, said Banner, frowning. “Like daltonism?”.
“No, like monochromatic vision. Achromatopsia, to be precise. I see everything in black, white and gray”.
“That’s so weird. Maybe a nerve issue?”, asked Stark, hyped up. He seemed to be getting involved, interesting in the case.
“I’ve done every test I thought possible. Nothing else happened, just a weird mark, a big headache with the loud noise and the loss of color vision”.
“Have you checked for mononucleosis?”.
“It’s not”.
“Aseptic meningitis?”.
“Nope”.
“Too much caffeine? It can happen”.
“Can it?”, asked Stark, a little bit freaked out.
“Not enough to cause this, no”, you kept answering.
“Sinusitis? Postconcussive syndrome? A stroke, even? Lupus?”.
“Haven’t you watched Dr. House, Bruce? It’s never lupus”, interrupted Stark once again. You chuckled, and finally gave in, sitting on the chair in front of them.
“It’s none of those things. I checked out for almost everything, even things not related. I tried to do a biopsy, but the flesh wouldn’t give in, as if it’s sealed on my skin. My pressure was fine, I’ve never had any health issues before, I never even needed to wear glasses”.
“Did this… loud ringing come again?”.
“No. And nothing hurt back. It’s like it just happened for my eyes to drop color”.
“I have a theory”, said Natasha, who apparently was awake. Stark and Banner nodded to let her talk. “Someone pulled a prank on you in your dorm and tattooed your body while sleeping. By some huge coincidence in the world, your retina just decided to give up on life and, boom, no more colors for you. It can happen, I once read a book about a painter that stopped seeing colors out of nowhere. Ruined his life completely. Couldn’t eat tomatoes because they seemed so weird”.
“I’ve read that book. Oliver Sacks, right? The neurologist. So cool. I think it was a concussion, though”, chuckled Banner. You rolled your eyes.
“Could you give it a chance and help me out on this? Please. I feel there’s something wrong about it. Something missing”.
Banner and Stark looked at each other. Stark seemed to be into the idea of investigating further. He always had a soft spot for the unfixable, the impossible, Peter would say. But you had a feeling this was something fixable. Maybe something you could understand at some point. What was that mark?
“You said your collarbone. That’s why you’re wearing a turtleneck? Is it that ugly?”, said Stark, and you pulled down your collar to show the mark. The bright drawing of a green snake, with its golden details implastered like the finest of the inks over your skin, showed just how precious that was to even resemble a tattoo. “Wow”, he swallowed.
“Well”, huffed Banner. “I stand corrected. That seems to be somehow relevant to us”, he said, eyeing Stark. “Doesn’t it remind you of someone?”.
“It does seem like one of his pranks, I guess… but, why?”, he frowned in confusion. You cleared your throat. “Oh, it’s nothing, dear. I don’t think our friend has anything to do with this. We’re gonna help you, though”.
“Your friend?”.
“Don’t ask. Tomorrow morning in our lab, is that okay? You can crash here, it’s too late for you to roam around the city”.
And so, next morning, you got admitted into the Avengers compound’s hospital room. You couldn’t even imagine the amount of things they had on that Tower, until you were soon surrounded by wires and pinched by dozens of needles, doing tests you’ve already done on yourself —just in case.
Three days in, and you could only trust yourself walking around the Tower in the middle of the night, when the lights were dead and you wouldn’t run up anyone. The days were hectic and filled with activities, and you could only give yourself permission to roam around when nobody else was there.
But little did you know, it was actually important that you could get your nightly steps, back then. Because they got your color vision back.
It was ridiculous, really. The moment it happened, you were too shocked to even talk. You didn’t actually remember much —you walked into the compound’s library, a place you haven’t visited before, and as soon as you saw a man sitting on the couch, long legs spread over it, you took a sharp breath in, almost scared at his unexpected sight.
As soon as he raised his eyes to meet yours, you heard a loud pitch again, and as everything became too bright for you to understand, your color vision came back to normal. You plummeted against the floor, too drunk on colors and noises to realize that the tall man had the exact same expressions on his face.
Equally surprised, he ran to you and helped you up. He was handsome. Very, very attractive, and you found yourself glad you could see colors again just to appreciate his deep and crystal eyes. You sank on that color palette of cold tones and warm stare for a while, until he walked you to the couch and helped you sit carefully.
“Are you alright?”, you asked him. “You seem pale”.
“I am always pale. Are you alright? You just fell”.
“Yeah”, you chuckled. I might have just fallen for you, you thought, and he blushed almost immediately, as if he could hear your thoughts. “I’m good. I’m Banner’s new experiment, and… well, I was…”, you muttered, unable to concentrate over his eyes on you. He was staring at you intensely, deeply, hearing word by word and taking in every bit of you, and that made you the most nervous you’ve been in your entire life.
“You’re the one that couldn’t see colors”, he stated.
“Yes, but… Somehow, now I do”.
“Yeah”, he smiled slightly, and dropped it quickly. He extended you a hand to shake and took in a sharp breath, as if composing himself. “I am Loki, of Asgard”.
“I am… wait, did you just say Asgard? Are you…?”, you asked, incredulous. He rolled his eyes and interrupted you.
“Yeah, yeah. Brother of Thor”.
“... the God of Mischief?”, you finished your sentence, and he stopped on his tracks.
“You know about me?”.
“I’ve read a lot about you”.
“The New York thing”, he seemed disappointed.
“At first, yeah. After that I got somehow fascinated with mythology. I’ve read all the tales. Are they true?”.
“I did not fuck a horse, if that’s what you’re asking”.
“No, that’s… well, that is sort of what I was asking”.
He chuckled, and you laughed too. When you threw your head back, his smile dropped to a concerned frown and observed your neck with attention. He extended a hand and moved your jaw without saying anything. You flinched and he didn’t register it, too caught up on observing your tattoo on investigation.
“This must be a joke”, he muttered. You straightened your back and he pulled his hand away. You shot him a glance, asking explanations, and he sighed out. “Let me guess. You love the medical sciences, and the color blue”.
“That’s… what? How did you…?”, but before you could finish, he got up and stormed out of the room with a “don’t even” hanging in the air.
The next morning, you found Loki on the breakfast table at six. You would normally go get your food at seven or eight, yet you knew he was there for the coffee early —his brother told you about it. So, you walked into the kitchen and began preparing two coffees. He soon grew nervous, as you thought he would, yet you didn’t go away. You placed a coffee cup in front of him and sat by his side, making direct eye contact. After a while of uncomfortable silence, he broke it.
“Now, what on the Norns do you think you’re doing?”, he asked with annoyance, his deep voice still hoarse.
“What did you do to me?”.
“What do you mean?”, he frowned.
“How did you give me my colors back?”.
He kept his mouth open, looking for the right words. He didn’t say anything, until you crossed your arms in annoyance, waiting for him to speak.
“I did nothing of the sort. And I’d recommend you don’t say you got them back as soon as you saw me, alright? Not in front of Thor, at least”.
“Why would I listen to you?”.
“That wasn’t a suggestion, it was a threat”.
“Are you threatening me?”.
“And are you not backing up from me?”.
“You seem more scared than frightening, to be honest”.
“Oh! I see you two have already met!”, chanted Thor, walking in and placing a hand on the nape of your neck and an arm around Loki’s shoulders. “Brother, you’ll like this one. But don’t like them too much, or else you'll ruin them”, he joked, and winked at you. You blushed and Loki rolled his eyes, sipping at the bitter coffee you made for him after eyeing it for a while. “Are you busy today with all of those experiments? I’d like to get some coffee with you, if that’s alright”, he asked.
Loki raised his eyebrows, incredulous.
“I’m gonna be free until noon, we could go out!”, you smiled, and Thor helped you up off your seat with a hand and a charming glance. Loki pretended to gag.
“Is my brother flirting with you?” he asked, bewildered. “Blink twice if you need rescue”.
“It’s all good, we’re going out as friends!”, you explained to Loki, but Loki knew better of his brother. “You see, unlike you, Thor has been really kind to me since day one. I’d like to repay him the kindness with some cool coffee shop visits. You’re more than welcome to join, though”.
“Gross. No”.
“Loki! Don’t be so rude to our new friend”, Thor scolded him, not too surprised at Loki's bitterness. You laughed and said it was okay.
“We still have to celebrate, though”, you said, looking him directly in the eyes with a smug smirk, like a cat about to throw a mug off the table. Loki opened his eyes widely and gestured to you to shut your mouth, but you continued, with a grin plastered on your face. “You see, yesterday I just saw colors again. One of the things we’re investigating dissipated, so we’re okay on that. I can now see your blonde hair in person”.
Thor stood in place, confused.
“You didn’t see colors before?”.
“No, they went away some time ago”.
Loki was red head to toes, hiding his face behind the cup, hoping Thor was dumb enough to let it pass. Thor looked at him expectantly.
“My brother lost his color vision too”.
“Oh”, you said, looking at Loki, even more confused than before. “Is that why you were so weird with me? Why didn’t you tell me?”.
“Tell me, when exactly did you get your colors back?”, asked Thor, interrupting you.
“Uh… last night. I was on the…”.
“...kitchen, right? You were making coffee. We’ve met before, earlier, in the library. You wanted to be kind and make me some coffee because I was tired. Then, you hit your head on the kitchen and the colors came back. I was nowhere near you when you found out about that”.
“Loki, that’s not at all what happened”, you scoffed.
“That’s exactly what happened”.
“Tell me this, did you get them when you saw my brother?”, asked Thor, ignoring Loki’s whines.
“Yes? Can anyone care to tell me what’s going on between you two with this? Do you know anything about it? Did Loki do something to me?”.
“BROTHER!!!”, yelled Thor in ecstasy, hugging Loki tightly and spinning him around. You stayed in place, amazed at the situation developing in front of you. “Don’t be an idiot, this is too great!!”.
“I don’t see the colors too, brother. There’s a misunderstanding”, said Loki, arranging the collar of his suit and scoffing in disbelief. “And I suggest you stop trying so hard to find them”.
“Them who?”, you asked.
“Loki’s…”.
“...patience. Get. Out. We’re not getting coffee and we’re definitely not talking, ever again”.
Loki ended the conversation, and you rolled your eyes —what was up with him? What was all that about? Thor sighed out in frustration, and told him to talk to him later on that day. Loki reluctantly nodded, saying that maybe sometimes his position of big brother could actually be of help. Help for what? You wouldn’t know.
Thor smiled at you and offered a hand for you to take.
“Well, then. If Loki is so sure this is a misunderstanding, I shall take you all for me. Are we still good to celebrate your colors coming back?”.
“Absolutely, King of Asgard. I know a good coffee place around the corner”.
Loki felt empty once you two left.
He knew he was making a mistake, but he also knew Thor wouldn’t betray him like that. Still, something inside of him stirred and pained at the idea of that beautiful midgardian being stolen away from him by his brother. Maybe you’d rather the brother that wasn’t your soulmate —he was more pleasant, that was for sure. Loki closed himself off in his room and sunk on a book for the entire day.

Life in the Tower was a bliss. Sure, there were many things you would have rather been doing —like getting your finals over with, or working on someone else in a lab, instead of your own body—, but you learnt a lot with Banner and Stark. They explained every single step they did, and you could still talk about nerdy science things for the rest of the day with mostly everyone around you. It was so different from home, yet it was so special.
The only one that wouldn’t interact with you at all was the, as everyone called him, Dark Prince.
Loki acted weird around you. He avoided being in the same room with you, and if he was obligated to, he wouldn’t be too concentrated on anything other than ignoring you —which he couldn’t do properly, because of how focused he was on not caring. You could tell, he was actively trying to hate you.
It wasn’t that it broke your heart, or anything of the kind. He just was intolerably mean. And you knew he had a good fame of being mischievous and even cruel, but something inside you knew, very deep down, he was a fragile soul hiding from something bigger —and you couldn’t figure out what it was.
Two weeks passed and there wasn’t much progress being made over the mark. The mark wouldn’t give in a bit of it for a biopsy. The mark wouldn’t hurt, yet wouldn’t feel like just a tattoo. It didn’t have texture, and it felt like it was something beneath the skin, beneath muscle —even beneath bone.
You were already closer to the Avengers around you, after a very few weeks of staying there and seeing them do their daily activities. You even had a routine of sorts. You’d wake up very early and get any lab test needed for later. You’d go to some classes at your college, yet leave early to get into the Stark’s laboratory, and keep on learning. You’d pick Peter Parker from school and go to get him a coffee on your work while talking about what you two had most in common, and then you’d go to the compound back and discuss the latest discoveries over your mark.
It was exhausting, only talking about science all day long for weeks. You thought it would be the biggest blessing you’ve ever had. It wasn’t.
So, one good night after a long day, you found yourself meroding the library again. You needed a book that would take your mind off somewhere else. You had a long list of fanfiction you were still to get through —but you needed the hardcover or paperback, the smell of the new pages, the creamy texture of sliding through a long and heavy book. You needed the silence and coziness of a true library, the warm colors that contrasted so well against the bright and cold lights of the lab and the hospital.
You grabbed a book, the first one that caught your eye, and laid over the long couch that was once occupied by the God of Mischief. What was Loki up to those days? You haven’t seen him at all, and you even began worrying for him. Was he sick? Was he eating? Was he sleeping well?
It didn’t matter. He wouldn’t care for you, you shouldn’t care for him either.
You closed your eyes, and let the cracking of the fireplace be the only sound filling the room. Your breathing slowed down and you felt yourself drifting away. Your shoulders felt less heavy and your feet were almost flying away.
You heard some light footsteps come out of the corner of one bookshelf, someone that had been hiding ever since you came in. You didn’t open your eyes, and pretended to be asleep.
The person walked up to you silently, and you could recognize the sigh. Loki seemed to be staring down at you, and you did your best to pretend to be still sleeping, even though you wanted to wake up and talk to him —desperately. But you kept your urges to yourself, and stirred in place to get a slight look at him without him noticing.
He sat on the individual couch that was just right by your side. You could see very little of him, but you saw his long fingers getting near you. You froze in place, pondering what he would do next. He, with a featherlight touch, lingered his hand over your hidden neck. You wanted to see what he was doing, so you pretended to move in your sleep a little more and allowed him more access to your neck.
Was that very reckless of you? Maybe.
But you, for a strange reason you couldn’t yet point out, trusted him not to hurt you in any way. Even if he only tried to push you away since you’ve met. Even if the only times you’ve talked it ended in frustration and mean sarcasm. You trusted him. And you knew it had to do with your colorvision.
He took a sharp breath in, and you could see the nervousness on his face. Your eyes were now completely open, and if he wasn’t so focused on your neck, he would’ve noticed. You saw his raw display of vulnerability. The mark. He wanted to see your mark better. Touch it.
You understood, then. The mark did concern him. It was his business.
He reached closer to your skin. Lowered the turtleneck slightly and grazed the mark with his fingertips. He was flustered, annoyed, tired. You could see the restlessness in his eyes, and below them. He hadn’t been sleeping well, it was obvious.
When his fingers touched the mark on your skin, you felt a tingling. You moved your eyes as slow as possible, as to not let him notice you were wide awake, and saw what he was doing. He was just touching it.
And the mark was glowing.
He sighed out once again, and muttered what sounded like a curse in old norse. Something about this was bothering him greatly, and you wanted to know. You needed to know. You clenched your jaw and the slight movement made him realize you were looking at him directly into his eyes. He gasped and pulled his hand away. You sat on the couch and frowned.
“So you know what this is”, you stated.
“What?”, he tried to compose himself. His eyes were slightly watery. Maybe it was the effect of the fireplace’s brim lights. Maybe he was too filled with emotions.
“I just saw it glowing, don’t play dumb and, please. Please. Tell me what it is. Tell me”, you asked him, this time a little less frustrated, and more needy. He chuckled and his eyes traveled between your neck and your face.
He got up and sat by your side on the same couch. Silently, he offered his hand. You grabbed it. He didn’t look at you, he looked at your hands, your fingers. He drew slow circles with his thumbs, caressing you.
He didn’t say anything, yet you felt the calmest you’ve felt in a long, long time.
“I’m sorry. I can’t tell you yet”, he murmured. His voice was almost a groan. Low and somehow colorful. It sounded like a dark blue, almost petrol —calm as the ocean, deep as the ocean. Dangerous as the ocean.
“Why?”, you whispered.
“Well, I…”, he moved his head, getting to the right words. “I know better than anyone how gruesome it can be to hide someone else’s truth. But I just can’t tell you now. I think I’m not ready to tell you”.
You paused before answering, and nodded slowly. You understood what he was saying, but you still were being eaten alive by curiosity and impatience.
“Will you tell me, someday?”.
Your shoulders were touching, and you allowed yourself to rest your head on his shoulder. It was almost as if his body was molded to be with yours. His hands molded to be around yours.
You breathed in his fresh scent, and wondered why was this man so close to you, right now, allowing you to be this close, allowing you to sync your breathing with his.
“Someday”, he muttered. He rested his head over yours, still drawing slow shapes on your hand.
After some silent time your body felt all the tiredness of the day and you began falling back asleep. He let you —he might have even encouraged it. He was so different from the Loki he had been the past few weeks. Almost as if the confirmation that your mark could glow, made him give up his goal to ignore your existence. And he was… gentle, to say the least. He was silently kind, and he felt like home.
You might have fallen a little more for him.
Over the course of the next week he stopped trying to pretend like you didn’t exist. He laughed at your jokes with the rest of the group. He offered you coffee while he did his own. He even accepted to go out on one of your coffee shop tours with his brother, once.
But you’ve never talked by yourself, without being under the veil of safety of a friend group.
Sometimes Tony Stark would bicker at him, yes, but ever since you told Thor you saw colors, he had gotten worse against Loki. He teased him endlessly about things you couldn’t understand, as if trying to get information off him.
One day, in a meeting, Tony Stark kept talking about a specific element on the periodic table he was sure could be mixed with tattoo ink to make it the exact texture of your mark. He was trying to give the mark a meaning, a justification, and nobody in the meeting was buying it.
Loki wasn’t even paying attention. He usually didn’t pay attention to whatever Tony said, as a general life rule. But this time, he should’ve, because Tony Stark was actively trying to catch him distracted.
“Anyway. Loki, could you pass me that blue folder right by your side?”, he asked nonchalantly. There were about seven piled up folders of different colors and the blue one was right in the middle.
Loki didn’t glue his eyes off his phone for a moment, except for a slight glance to the pile to find the blue one. He grabbed it and passed it over to Stark. Nobody moved for a while, and when Loki realized what he did, he stopped in place and looked around, trying to see if someone noticed.
Stark and Thor were staring at him with a smug grin plastered on their faces.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake”.
“I KNEW IT!”, yelled Thor in excitement, and fist-bumped Banner.
“Okay, Reindeer Games, this isn’t a joke anymore”, said Tony Stark, becoming way more serious than before. You watched it all develop in silence, amazed at how funny they all were.
Loki sat back on his chair, crossing his arms and sighing dramatically. He looked at you and winked.
“Everything is a joke, Stark”.
“No, no, it’s not. Because we’ve had in here at this little doctor-to-be having lower grades because of the amount of unnecessary experiments we performed on that weird mark of theirs, and you’re sitting here, knowing exactly what it is, and how dangerous it can be, and not saying a word. I know you think human lives are less important, but…”, and Loki interrupted him.
“I’m sorry. Have you said anything I told you? I thought we agreed on…”, he began asking you, and Stark talked over him, yet again.
“Excuse me, you knew?! You knew all of this and didn’t say anything?!”, both directed the blame to you. You sat in there, without any idea of what they were accusing you of.
“Listen. Loki touched my mark and it glowed, and he didn’t explain anything, but I don’t know anything about it. It just glows when he touches it”.
“I am so, so happy for you, brother. I might even start tearing up”, said Thor, placing a hand on Loki’s shoulder. Loki shook it off with a frown.
“Stop it. What did you tell Stark?”.
“Just to check it out… and I might have mentioned the color thing”, he winked.
“Yeah, Mischief. Hercules right here told me all about your color vision and how it’s all related to this little person right here. And I want you to tell me right now what’s up with that mark”, he said firmly.
You didn’t dare say anything. You thought you should have, but you couldn’t. Loki asked Stark to talk in private, and when they came out, Stark was nearly laughing, amazed at whatever Loki had explained.
You got up and walked to him expectantly, curiosity and fear eating you alive.
“It’s no harm. Don’t worry about it. You should take it as a cool tattoo and go back to your normal life. We’re done here”.
“But, Mr. Stark… what is it?”.
“Can’t tell you. Be thankful to this idiot right here that can’t get his shit together”, he pointed at Loki, and Loki blushed, hiding his face between his arms over the table. You sighed and felt tears in your eyes, but pushed them away.
“So… this is it? This whole thing ends here?”.
“I don’t see what the big deal is about, kid. You’re free to go back to your life now. No needles all day long, and you get to work and study like you used to”.
You get to go to your normal life now. It should be good, right?
As Stark said, no more getting your blood drawn every morning. No more waking up at ungodly hours just to be still behind in all your books and work. No more walking around the compound and greeting all of the Avengers you’ve grown attached to. No more coffee with Thor. No more laughing with Loki at his snarky commentary over TV shows —and, to that matter, no more Friday movie nights with the team—.
And still, no idea what the Hell is happening on your skin. Not a single answer.
You let some of those tears roll down your cheeks in the intimacy of your former room, while packing your stuff. You heard a knock on the door and you cleaned your face with a tissue.
“Come in”.
“You know…”, said Banner, leaning over the door frame with a kind smile. Banner was always so kind to you. “This isn’t a goodbye. We liked you too, you should be around more often, even if you’re not living here”.
“Oh, Dr. Banner…”, you sighed with a smile. “Thank you. I’d love to keep in touch”.
“Call me Bruce, it’s all good, kid”, he smiled. “And maybe, you know, you can also keep in touch with Loki”, he winked. You blushed.
“Wh… what? Why would I…?”, you stuttered, but Bruce closed the door behind him and left. You laughed incredulous. Everyone seemed to know more than you did, didn’t they?
But even though you thought you’d finally rid yourself of that God that caused so many problems and made your heartbeat race to an abnormal pace every time, you didn’t.
Because there you were, finishing up your shift on your half-time work, silently thanking the customers to not order any more coffee for the evening, when a big and blonde man stumbled over the glass door.
“Thor, you oaf”, scoffed Loki, and you quickly hid behind the counter.
“It’s here, isn’t it?”, he said, walking in and looking for you, calling your name. You had no other choice than to show up, faking a smile.
“Hey”, you greeted. Thor gestured to zip his lips and pushed his brother towards you. Loki did not want to be there, and it showed perfectly clear on his expressions.
“I’m leaving. Just came by to help my brother…”.
“Force your brother”, corrected Loki, ever so sassy.
“...to help him finally talk to you”.
“Ah, so you finally grew a pair of balls and decided to tell me what the fuck happened on my skin?”.
“Fierce. I like you”, he smirked. Thor smiled and left without turning back. “Listen, I’m…”.
“Sorry? You very well should. And you think that because you are somehow special you can crash into my workplace and just tell me here the big revelation of what we’ve been working on for the past two months? Just like that? You have a lot of nerve showing up here in the first place”.
“Well, nerves, I have. Have I told you I grew up with Thor?”.
“And you keep joking as if nothing happened. You’re an asshole”.
“I’m a God and a prince, and you should talk to me with more respect”.
“Ah. Then, Your Highness, I will escort you to the exit”.
“You see? You’re sarcastic, funny, attractive… We’re made for each other. That’s what I’ve come to tell you, actually. Your mark…”.
“I’m not interested! Do you think bathing me in meaningless compliments will help? You calling me attractive is a mock, and I won’t have it in my workplace. My boss will walk in at any moment, and I should be…”.
“Now, if you just let me for a moment”.
The entire discussion grew out of place, Loki and you making a scene, and it came to an end when you accidentally threw coffee at him. Unfortunately for you, your boss walked in at that very moment, and, giving you very little time to explain yourself, fired you instantly for assaulting a customer. And, honestly? Fair enough.
But now, you were sitting on the sidewalk with the man that —to some degree— got you fired, and nearly on the brink of tears again. He had a hand on the small of your back, trying to comfort you without a clue on how to.
“I’m sorry I threw coffee at you”, you muttered, your face buried on your knees. He sighed.
“I should be the one apologizing”, he said with a low voice, still unsure if he even wanted to say it out loud. No—he knew he had to. “Let me make it up to you”.
You scoffed.
“How could you possibly help me with this? You’re not even from this planet”.
“I’ll help you with job hunting. I’m gonna get you a good job”.
“I don’t trust you”, you sighed. “How can I know this isn’t a trick? Ever since we’ve met you’ve said nothing but lies”.
“Yeah, I’ll give you that”, he nodded and dropped his hand from your back. He fidgeted with his long fingers.
“I won’t be able to pay rent or feed my pets”, you said in a whisper, with a crack in your voice. Something inside of Loki broke in two pieces.
“Stay at the compound. Until you get a job”.
“Yeah, and I presume you’ll convince Tony of that?”.
“Yes”.
“The man hates you”.
“But he doesn’t hate you”.
“I doubt it. I wasted so much of his time…”.
“You didn’t waste his time. Everyone liked you, including him”.
“I assume you aren’t on that list”.
“I am”, he said, without missing a beat. “I do like you, I wouldn’t have apologized otherwise. And you’re kind of nuts, I like that”.
“I’m… flattered?”, you chuckled and wiped away a tear. He smiled compassionately, surprised of himself for caring that much for you.
“You know, I’m going to tell our kids we met because you assaulted me”, he joked, realizing he still had the coffee stain on his shirt and cleaning it off with a brush of magic. You laughed.
“You’ll have to teach me how to do that. It’s more practical than having to take it to the cleaners or cleaning it yourself”.
“I thought you had an assistant to take care of that”, he said. You frowned.
“Why would I have that?”.
“You’re a doctor”.
“I’m not yet, but, even if I were, assistants don’t do that. They answer calls and schedule the appointments, and…”, but Loki didn’t hear anything else, as he was deep inside a revelation. Yes, that was it.
He just found the perfect job for you.
Tumblr media
“Dr. Banner’s lab”, you answered the phone. “Alright, could you tell me your name and a phone number to contact you again? Great, thank you”, you scribbled down on a post-it and glued it to the table. Loki and Tony Stark observed from afar, Loki with a content smile and Tony, slightly impressed at the God of Mischief. “I’ll call you back in ten minutes, let me rearrange some other appointments and we’ll make you fit. It’s no problem, glad to be of service”.
“Who would’ve thought? They just had to drop hot coffee on you to gain your full attention”, teased Tony Stark. Loki’s content smile dissipated and turned into a frown.
“Whatever. I just felt guilty, it’s not like I will actually take action”.
“Keep lying to yourself, but not me”.
“They might be a friend at most. It’d be ridiculous of me to actually date them, just because—”.
“Just because they’s your soulmate. Just because the universe decided you two would be the perfect match, made for each other, two sides of the same coin, two drops of the same rain. You’re right. Silly me”, he punched his shoulder lightly, and, while leaving, he said, “well, good thing you don’t have feelings or anything, because we’re actually a little tight on the rooms now that there’s so many new people, so you’ll have to share a room. Pack your stuff and go to room 207”.
“What? Stark, wait—”, but he was rudely cut off by the door.
Loki sighed, defeated. This was gonna be harder than anticipated.
“There’s something you might need to know”, said Loki, hurrying the steps behind you. You were walking way too fast back to your old room.
“It can wait! I’m back!”, you smiled, and Loki sighed.
“Yes, it’s about that, actually”.
You opened the door and stood there for a moment.
“The bed”, you pointed out. “This isn’t the room I’m getting, right? Which is it?”.
“It’s…”, Loki seemed embarrassed. “It’s this one”.
“It can’t be. This has a king-sized bed”, and paused. “And I’m not a king yet”.
Loki contained a chuckle. Norns.
“Stark said they’re short on rooms”, he explained briefly. “I’m not sure why they would put a marriage bed instead of two singles—because that’s what we are”.
“What are you saying?”, your heartbeat rushed.
“We have to share the room, apparently”.
“You’re not serious”.
“As a heart attack, darling”, he smirked.
“We can’t share bed, we’re… we’re not, we can’t— you know! It’s inappropriate!”, you stuttered and blushed and moved your arms around. Loki looked down and you could see he was slightly blushing too. He sighed.
“It’s what we’ve got. I’m tired. I want to sleep. Are you?”.
“I’m… going to talk to Mr. Stark”.
“Now?”, he glanced at the clock. It was almost two in the morning. “He must be snoring by now”.
“Or too focused on his lab to even pay attention to me and my problems”, you agreed.
“This doesn’t have to be a problem”, said Loki, sitting on the edge of the bed. “The bed is big enough for the two of us to not even touch”.
“I… I guess we can try”.
“Just tonight. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll deal with it tomorrow”.
“Alright”.
“Okay”.
“It won’t be weird”.
“Only if we make it”.
“And we won’t make it”.
“No, we’re fine”.
“We’re good”.
You sighed and trembled ever so slightly, sitting on the opposite side of the bed. Loki laid on his side and turned his back to you, without getting inside the covers. You did the same, but got into the cover. None of you changed into your pajamas.
Along the night, Loki turned around. He was awake, he couldn’t sleep. You couldn’t either, but pretended to. He tossed and turned, his legs couldn’t stay still, and his heart raced everytime he glanced at you. You were too still—too nervous. He was there. How could you sleep if he was there? And you were there, too. How could he even close his eyes?
Loki wasn’t sure what time it was when you got up and left. But the sun hadn’t settled on the sky, and it seemed like it was around four, close to five in the morning. You got up and left. You didn’t leave the room, but didn’t come back to bed. He sat on the bed again and looked for you.
“What are you—?”, he muttered, seeing you with a blanket and a pillow on the floor.
“I need to sleep”, you cut him off briefly. He sighed and laid on bed back again.

When Loki woke up, stiff and without having a single clue of what had happened, he looked around and found the room completely empty.
He frowned and made an effort to open his glued eyes. The blanket and pillow were folded over your side of the bed and your normal clothes were hanging on the desk chair. Your things were in the room.
He groaned your name, still half asleep, and heard no response. He couldn’t hear anything else than the birds chirping and couldn’t feel anything else than the sun rays burning on his face.
He finally got up and roamed around the room. Stark's plan was to bother him, and it wasn’t working quite as much as he’d liked to.
Maybe you’d accept to be in the same room and Loki would have to actually move his things in here, with yours. He realized you brought a pile of non-medical books. It was on the corner of the desk, and it seemed terribly balanced. He passed his fingers through the spines and found himself opening every book and reading some paragraphs, finding your annotations hilarious.
He sighed.
Fine, maybe it made sense you were his soulmate. Maybe.
What didn’t make sense was what he saw when he entered the kitchen of the compound.
His brother was drowning his morning sorrows on a huge mug of coffee —probably supposedly destined to be for soup— and groaning at his mother arranging the collar of his dress-shirt.
Loki immediately hid behind the door.
What was Frigga doing here? And why was his always-so-bedraggled brother wearing a silk white shirt and tight jeans? He observed Frigga scold his older son for not having braid correctly the strand of Loki’s hair on his own, and Loki suddenly remembered to put back Thor’s strand on his own braid. He must have been too caught up on braiding the damned strand that didn’t hear Frigga walking up to him and opening the door, ruining his refuge.
“Aren’t you gonna say hello to your mother?”, she smiled with open arms. Loki pressed his lips in a thin line and hoped it resembled a heart warming smile, hugging her and repressing a groan when she made use of the closeness to arrange the belt of his armor. “And why are you wearing Asgardian clothes on Midgard? Look at your brother, he is engaging much better with the culture”.
“He has never worn anything other than his leather pants and metal top for the past six months”.
“Loki!”, protested Thor. “That’s not true! I’ve been wearing suits, too!”.
“Yes. The buttons pop out everytime you sit. It’s dangerous”.
“Loki, watch your tongue”, scolded his mother. “And sit there by his side”, she indicated, and with a flip of her wrist Loki was changed into a marine blue suit with straight red lines that gave him a headache. Loki grunted.
“I want to complain about your choosing of the colors”.
“Don’t be so exquisite with your greens, son. I have something to do in here and then leave for more duties on Asgard, so you two are going to listen to me”.
Loki glanced at his brother, and Thor hid his face behind the mug. Loki instantly knew what was going on and started fighting back.
“Whatever Thor has told you, he’s wrong and he knows absolutely nothing of what actually is going on, and let me tell you, if you ever see me anywhere near a disgusting and useless being such as a mortal, then I’ll…”.
“Loki, zip it”.
“Fine. But I’m…”.
“No”.
Loki crossed his arms and didn’t say one more word.
“I’ve been looking at them for a while now”, she said, and raised a corner of her mouth, repressing a smirk. “You’d do well in accepting your fate. It’s not as common as you think, a double soulmate bond”.
“I don’t want it. I’m good on my own and they’ll be way better off without me”.
“That, I agree”, added Thor.
“Have I said you could speak?”, she frowned. “You’ll always be good on your own, Loki. That’s not the point of a soulmate. They’re not there to complete you, they’re there to share your fullness with you. Give them a chance”.
“No”.
“I’ll go talk to them, then”.
“Alright! Hold on”, he got up and stopped his mother from walking to Banner’s office. “I’ll ask them out for coffee. We’ll talk”.
“Good”, she smiled sincerely. “You won’t regret it, believe me. And braid your brother’s strand better”.
Loki rolled his eyes and groaned before leaving. Not without arranging the strand in front of his mother, of course.

You were gladly submerged into one of your books, taking notes at the speed of light with a scribbling that no longer made sense —in your first year you were neat with your handwriting, but as the things you needed to learn got more and more complex and long you had to sacrifice it for the sake of saved time—.
The common room of the compound was filled with activity, yet each one of you were on their own thing. Pepper ran around, busy as always, in things you didn’t quite understand. Some of the Avengers were having breakfast over some friendly chatter, reading the news, fixing their own tech, texting family members, among other things. Thor was focused on a handwritten letter for his father. Peter was at school, which was weird, because Tony took him and it wasn’t nearly five in the morning when that happened. He went to school at eight. He also forgot his backpack and didn’t come back to pick it up.
But you were focused on your anatomy book. This class was giving you trouble. You needed to memorize way more things than your brain was capable of, and neither sticky notes, nor flashcards, nor Notion apps, nor reciting out loud, not even making songs of it would help you get it all in your head. You contained a groan against your notebook —you didn’t want to draw attention from others—, and went back to trying.
Loki walked in with his nonchalant and ever so elegant step, and sat by your side without hesitation. He left a cup of coffee by your side and sipped from the one in his own hand. You muttered a thanks without gluing your eyes off the book, and kept on taking notes. He stayed in silence, observing you, until breaking it with a whisper,
“You know I have no issue with the murder, but do you have to keep the bones in the bedroom?”.
“I thought that was where bones were supposed to be”, you answered, still looking at the stupid words in your stupid book. Loki smirked. “And what do you mean you have no issue with the murder?”.
“Don’t deflect it. Who did you kill?”.
“I got them from the cemetery”.
He frowned in confusion.
“And why would you do that?”.
“I’m… studying anatomy? Is the word medical student not specific enough for you?”.
“You have me! You can study my anatomy!”, he pointed at himself as if it were the obvious solution to your ‘problem’. Although it wasn’t a problem. You had bones from the cemetery.
“You are nuts”.
“Why? Too much flesh?”.
“Yes?! I’m studying bones, not— don’t you fucking dare say it. Don’t say it, Loki, I warn—”.
“I have one exposed bone you could stu—”
You smacked him on the head with your book. The bonk it made was more than satisfactory for him to shut up.
He sat by your side in silence when he realized you two had drawn all the attention from the rest of the room. His brother had raised his eyebrows suggestively and thrown him a look that said “you ought to ask them out now”. And Loki had to take a deep breath for that.
Not that he ever lacked confidence or charm to attract whoever he wanted to. He had lovers in Asgard and fanatics on Midgard, and he convinced an entire team of superheroes to deem him worthy of their trust —which he surely wasn’t—. He simply was…
How would the word be?
“A chicken!”, you said. He blinked his thoughts away.
“Beg your pardon?”.
“That’s what I need. I need to practice on my stitches, and what better for that than a chicken breast?”.
“I… you can stitch me up if you need to practice”.
“God. Stop offering yourself as a mannequin for my studies!”, you groaned. “Don’t you see how weird it would be? I don’t want to stitch your perfectly healthy skin!”.
Loki pondered that image for a while.
“It must seem mad, you’re right”, he nodded. “But consider that I merely want to help you. You seem stressed and my time is badly spent on tricks nobody appreciates around here”.
You closed your book and sat upright, tilting your head. His eyes didn’t glue off yours, and he seemed sincere —not that you had to doubt it at that point. You wondered what would be going on in that clever head of his, that he felt the want —no, the need— to help you.
“I mean, if it really doesn’t bother you, I could use some help with the memorizing…”, you muttered, pointing at your flashcards. Loki smiled.
“Of course”.
Tumblr media
“You’ll have to ask me two more times before we can actually share the bed, you know”, you joked when he came back with two coffee cups and a pan au chocolat to share. “I have a strict policy of three dates”.
“That seems too little”.
“Don’t slut shame me”.
“I’d say at least eight”.
“Are you kidding me? We’d be married at that point”.
“Well, aren't some of your people into that anyway? Like, saving yourself for marriage?”.
You laughed. Loki noticed it was a bright laughter, fresh. Fresher than the coffee he ordered for you, even.
“You call it ‘into it’ like it’s some sort of a kink and I love that”.
Loki chuckled.
“I hope my mother isn’t hearing what we’re making as conversation on this… date”, he took a sip and marveled at the taste. Way better than Asgardian’s, that was for sure. “Not that I actually think this is a date. What should we call this?”.
“A friends-date?”.
“An apology?”.
“Maybe a get-to-know-each-other-plus-coffee”.
“Passing time together because there’s nothing else to do”.
“You know, all of those things could be shortened as a date”.
“It is a date, then”.
“Good”.
“Fine”.
“Alright”.
Loki sighed and hid his face in his arms. His curls dropped off his shoulders and into the table like a wild river, and you noticed a strand of blonde hair braided behind his ear, hidden from plain sight. You’ve also observed the freckles on the nape of his neck, creeping up and very dispersed around his face. You hadn’t noticed them before —his face had a golden shimmer, rather than the white marble you’ve always seen from afar. He had a humane way of handling himself around life, but up close you could feel the magic glimmer from his skin.
You hunched over the table and rested your chin on your arms, imitating his position and still observing his beauty. He really was handsome. His hair seemed so soft and silky, you wished you could thread your fingers through it.
After a few more seconds he raised his head and rested a cheekbone over his bicep, his cheeks and lips squishing slightly as if he was making a little pout. You smiled.
You looked at each other in silence. You observed his facial features, each defined line of his face and each sharp corner. His eyes—always so defiant, always so keen, like a hunter—seemed relaxed and soft under your gaze. He was observing you as intensely as you were, and you wondered what he was thinking about it. What was he noticing?
You tilted your head and laid your cheek on your arm, like he was doing, and didn’t notice the neck of your sweater lifting down. His heart skipped a beat when he saw your mark, as if he hadn’t seen it before. He decided he needed to keep you by his side for longer than he planned. He’s seen your distress. He had to say something. You had the right and the urge to know.
He put his palm up over the table, inviting your hand to rest over his. You were hesitant, but he had the same warm gaze as before. It was alright, it said. You put your hand over his and he enclosed it with the other one.
You both observed the size difference. His hands, slightly calloused, veins marked and bony and yet—still soft. Not an ice cold skin, as you imagined him to have, but an inviting warmth that made you want to hunch closer to him, rest your whole face on the pads of his fingers.
You might have fallen for him a bit more.
He took in some air and decided it was time to speak.
“I have a mark too”, he murmured, almost purred. His voice gravel, a texture so specific you could associate it to a feeling. Summer rain. Tires over wet pavement, the humming of the car engines. His breathing wasn’t too labored but you could hear it still. Maybe he was closer than you felt him to be. You observed his long eyelashes, thick and heavy covering crystal green eyes, less like emeralds and more like jade stones, tints of blue merging too. “It’s yours”.
“You have my same mark?”, you asked in a whisper.
“I mean it belongs to you”.
You stayed in silence, without knowing what to say. His eyes were peaceable, gentle, still. He didn’t glue them off yours and wanted an answer, you could feel it. You still felt his firm grip on your hand, how he studied the way your fingers started caressing his hands without realizing, as an automatic motion. As if your hands were programmed to do so.
“What do you mean?”.
“It’s a special kind of bond… it’s hard to explain. What matters is that we might want to stick together. It makes me feel closer to you, and maybe it makes you feel the same way about me”, he explained. You nodded and then hunched closer to him. You muttered,
“So is it true?”.
“What is?”.
“Is it a soulmate mark? Like the color vision loss?”.
Loki smiled. For the first time in a long while it was a true smile, a fond one. He opened his mouth to answer, but a violent crash outside stopped his words. None of you let go of the hands of the other, but you incorporated yourselves on your seats and looked out the window. A car crash, an aggressive one.
One of the cars had smashed the back seats of the other one, and both of you ran to the accident without hesitation. You caught your heart on your throat when you realized that there was someone on the back seat, and that someone was your smart little friend, the one that got you into all of this in the first place.
“Peter!”, you yelled, running to get him out of the car and helping him. He was unconscious, and stuck. You couldn’t take him out yourself. Loki lifted up the other car and ripped Peter's seatbelt off, freeing him, and you laid him out on the street floor, inspecting his wounds. “Loki, call for help”, you said, and handed him your phone. “It’s 911”.
Peter hit his head and the broken glasses pierced through his arm. He broke a rib from the impact with the seatbelt, but it didn’t seem to have pierced any organ. He was breathing and his heart was beating. He was bleeding out and you did your best to stop the bleeding and keep him stable until the ambulance came, but you were sure he’d make it just fine, and that kept you sane throughout.
The paramedics came in flying and took him in, asking you questions. You and Loki went with them and waited in the hospital’s waiting room until a doctor came out and told you it was all fine. They had to monitor him for a day after he woke up and then he’d be good to go home.
He seemed to be recovering insanely fast, and Loki said something like you know how fast young bodies heal, as if covering him up for being a God like him, or something. You almost chuckled.
When May, his aunt, came to the hospital, she had brought Tony Stark and Happy with her. You were confused, to say the least. And now that you came to think about it, Loki seemed to act like he already knew Peter from somewhere.
“How’s Peter? What happened?”, asked May, rushing to the room.
“He’s just had a scratch”, said Loki, opening the door for her.
“A scratch? A fucking glass cut through his arm. He broke a rib! He had a car on top of him!”, you whispered to Loki when May was out of your reach. Tony walked past you and gave you a pat on the shoulder.
“He’s had worse”.
You frowned, but didn’t say anything else. You waited with them by Peter’s side until he finally woke up and cracked a joke. He was in a huge car accident and the kid was cracking jokes. He suddenly seemed to remember something and got up from the bed quickly.
“Woah, woah, there. What happened, kid?”.
“The driver! That’s what I was doing there, Mr. Stark!”.
“Take it easy, Peter. You’ve just been…”, you tried to get him back to bed, but he dismissed you with a hand wave.
“... under a car, yeah, yeah. Listen, Mr. Stark. The villain was in that car, that’s why I was there. I took that taxi and then when he realized I wasn’t the victim but that I was there to take him down, he put himself through that crash to get out. I wasn’t expecting to faint, I’m so sorry, Mr. Stark. I screwed up. I should’ve been more careful”.
You seemed to be the only one who didn’t understand a single word. Loki, on the other hand, seemed enraged at Tony Stark.
“You gave the kid a part in this mission?! Are you out of your mind?! If he were on Asgard he’d be less than five hundred!”, he yelled, walking up to Tony Stark and towering over him menacingly.
“Listen, Rock of Ages, I would never give him anything he couldn’t handle, okay?”.
“He clearly couldn’t handle this”.
“And how was I supposed to know that?”.
“Hey, stop!”, said Peter. “I can manage. I’ll be fine, I promise. I just… I need a computer”.
“What?”.
“I have mine in here”, you said. At least you could do something if you didn’t understand what was going on. You gave it to him and he put a pendrive on it. Immediately, FRIDAY popped up on the computer.
“Welcome, Spiderman. You seem to have put a tracker on the target. Would you like me to follow it?”.
Tony Stark smirked proudly at Peter. You stared bewildered.
“You’re Spiderman?!”.
“You didn’t know?”, frowned Loki. “How did you know Peter?”.
“He’s the little nerd at the back of my classes! He’s not… he can’t be Spiderman! What?”.
“Yeah… it might take a while to believe”.
“Hey, man”, chuckled Peter. “It’s not that hard to believe, is it?”.
Everyone fell silent. May put a hand on his shoulder.
“Well… you’re not exactly… you’re small!”.
“I—can’t believe this. My own aunt”, he shook his head in disapproval, and started typing. “Now, you’re a doctor, right? You think you can sign some papers and get me out of here?”.
“I’m just a resident. I’m not even one in this hospital…”, you said, looking for the nurse. “Maybe I can get you someone to…”.
“You seem to forget I’m here and I do what I please when I please. Just leave, kid. I’ll make sure it’s alright”, said Tony while texting the chief of the hospital. He entered the call. “Hey Richard, my man. From CEO to CEO…”.
Happy kept staring at you. He stared the whole time, and you were beginning to think he was about to get you kicked out or arrested. He stared as if he were thinking what to do with you.
Loki seemed to notice and stared back at him. Happy broke your eye contact to fidget with his fingers.
“What’s your problem?”, suggested Loki. You had to contain a smirk. Since when was he so protective of you?
Happy got up and walked up to you.
“Nothing, Loki”, he muttered, and told you, “I’d like to have a chat with you outside”. When Loki started following you too, he had to pause and roll his eyes, “alone. Jeez, Tony was right about you being so uptight”.
“I simply distrust your intentions with my friend”.
“No need to get so jealous”, chuckled Happy, as if all the nervousness he had dissipated as soon as he recognized only care for you in Loki’s eyes. “What I’ll offer might benefit you too, lovers”.
Now you were nervous.
Happy took you to the hall of the hospital, and texted some people. You tried to peek in out of curiosity but he moved the phone away and tsked at you. You grew more and more nervous.
“Well, spill the beans, Happy!”, you exclaimed with impatience.
“I’ve seen what you did in there”, he said without gluing his eyes off the phone. “With Peter”.
“What do you mean?”.
“You’re a doctor”.
“In formation”.
“Already going through your residence. You have the doctor’s title. You’re good in action, you reacted quickly and with confidence”.
“How…? Were you there?”.
“I have access to all security cameras —for legal reasons… only in New York”, he winked. First time he looked at you. He put his phone down. “It doesn’t matter how I know stuff, what matters is, Tony and I talked about this, and he gave me full control on the decision. I get to choose someone, and I choose you”.
“What?”, you raised your eyebrows, trying to figure out what the Hell Happy just said. Did he even say something, among all of those words?
“I’m offering you a job”.
“As what?”.
“Avenger’s medic”.
Loki, from the other side of the door, smirked widely. You blinked a few times and tried to process the information. Were you being asked to join the team as their doctor? It seemed like a dream you couldn’t even imagine. Your brain couldn’t conjure up such wild ideas, so it only made sense this was happening in real life.
“Are you serious?”.
“Yeah. You’d go into the battlefield in a nearby quinjet and run to the injured Avengers. That on a mission. If not, then you’d have your own consultory on the Tower and make all the check-ups and stitch them up or put bandaids on their knees when they fall off the stairs”, he said, and your brain went a thousand miles per hour. “If you want, you can still be Dr. Banner’s assistant, too. I think you can work those two jobs without issue. Ah, you’ll have to make a month or so long study trip to Asgard, so you can learn what kind of medicine measures would the demi-Gods require”.
“I…”, you stuttered.
“None of this should interfere too much with you receiving your residence certificates, and taking the board exams. Just texted your college and they would make special arrangements for you. We’re talking about the health of our heroes, after all, aren’t we?”, he smiled. Then, he asked, “so? What do you say?”.
“I… I don’t get it”, you muttered. “Why me? I’m not special in any way. I’m not a genius and I haven’t even actually graduated yet”.
“Aahh, you and your insecurities”, breathed out Happy, patting your back. “Yeah, I’ve got you all studied up. You say you’ll fail an exam and then receive a 98. And then feel like you’re not working hard enough. If my information is correct, you have anxiety weighed by a huge imposter syndrome and the feeling that no matter how hard you try, it’s never gonna be quite enough. Am I right?”.
“How the Hell—”.
“I know everything, remember?”, he interrupted you. “But let me assure you, my job is to find the best people for my best people. And I have no imposter syndrome here, let me assure you, I do a very damn good job. I choose you. You’ll graduate with honors and all. It’s up to you to accept this offer or not, now”.
“This is nuts”, you sighed out. You looked down, and then, with shiny eyes, hugged Happy. “Thank you! Thank you! This is such an honor, sir”.
Happy arranged his clothes after pulling off the hug —already familiar with all-too-excited youngsters— and cleared his throat.
“Call me Happy. Get ready, you start working tomorrow. The study trip is in two weeks, meanwhile, you’ll get personalized assistance on basic Avenger’s procedures. Banner will help you with details to treat the Hulk if it ever comes to it”.
You nodded and he walked off, leaving you to stare at a wall.
You’re a part of the Team, now.

That night you were too hyped up to sleep. The momentary solution of the floor was beginning to take a toll on your back, and you ended up taking turns with Loki. That night was Loki’s turn. But you couldn’t sleep.
You roamed around the room, fixing your and his piles of books from the opposite sides of the place, moving your head to a melody in your mind. Loki was leg-spread on his side of the bed —even though you didn’t share it, you still had complementary preferred sides— reading a poetry book that had him enchanted.
“It’s late”, he stated after he glanced at his wristwatch.
“I can’t get down this high”, you said, still fixing the books. He closed the book with a small thud and laid on his belly, facing you from the feet of the bed.
“But you need to sleep. Tomorrow starts your probation, does it not?”.
“Well, yes, but—”.
He materialized a cup of tea over his open palm and carefully handed it to you. You accepted it, and he patted the bed for you to sit on your side. You shook your head.
“No, it’s your turn tonight, and—”.
“Would you stop being so uptight? Just sit here”.
You pressed your lips into a thin line and nodded, following his directions. His tone left no room for arguing.
He didn’t get off the bed, though. He sat right back where he was and kept on reading his book. He dimmed the lights with a flick of the wrist and didn’t move an inch after you finished your tea and laid on your side.
You stared up at him. He didn’t seem to notice or mind. His chest slightly raised up and down with tranquil breaths and his eyes flickered from word to word with enthusiasm, revisiting some paragraphs from time to time. You grew curious. You moved in place and accommodated yourself to look at his book better, and he turned his attention back to you.
“Tell me if you’re uncomfortable. Do you want me to leave?”.
“No, actually”, you muttered. “Would you read it to me?”.
He looked at you quizzically. Then, murmured back, “read this?”. You nodded. “Yes, sure”.
After a couple of poems, both of you started getting more comfortable together. You scooched closer to him and he let his hand mindlessly fall to your hair, caressing it gently. You could feel your own chest heaving at the feeling of his warm fingers on the nape of your neck, but you loved it. Your eyelids felt heavier, and his smooth voice seemed to have a massage-like effect on you. His voice is perfect for poetry, you thought, and relaxed even more under his touch.
After a while, Loki’s body began slipping off and instead of sitting with his back against the bed frame, he seemed to be almost laying down with his head elevated. Instead of bothering you, this allowed you to get even closer to him. You tentatively laid the crown of your head against his shoulder, and he —half asleep— instinctively passed his arm around you, not even once letting his hand get away from your hair.
You don’t remember when it happened, but you fell asleep to his words.
You realized you had slept in there when your alarm went off and your eyes opened in front of him. He was awakening at the same time, and groaned lightly at the loud ringing. You spend the night in a similar position —his arm was still around you like a blanket, and you had thrown your head on his chest, your whole body against his side, and your feet tangled like a married couple—.
You raised your chin slightly to meet his eyes and your noses brushed. He chuckled at your strong blush.
“Hi”, he said with a raspy voice.
“Good morning”, you whispered, still burning red, pulling a little away.
He let go of you and you got up to get ready for the day. He stretched in place and nuzzled his nose against the pillow, going right back to sleep. You smiled gently, placing a blanket on top of him and leaving for your new exciting adventure.

  Tony was not having it.
From the waiting area, Loki could hear Tony Stark’s whines over how long you’ve been taking for one simple procedure, complaining at your constant poking with different needles, and how… cold the stethoscope was? What is he, five?
Loki knocked twice and waited for Banner’s tiresome face greeting him. He nodded in silence and approached you while you scribbled down on Tony Stark’s health history and contained some grunts.
Your eyes perked up when you noticed him.
“Hi, Loki”, you received his kiss on the cheek. “Your check-up is not today, I think… uh… tomorrow at nine, right, JARVIS?”.
“Yes, Mx. Y/N, Mr. Laufeyson’s consult—”.
“Oh, don’t mind me, darling. Just came by to bring you this”, he left a cup of espresso over your desk. “I’ve noticed you didn’t have time to get it this morning”.
“Aren’t you just the sweetest”, you winked at him. He chuckled and left without much more to say.
You immediately went back to your consult. Banner and Stark, however, did not come back as quickly. After a minute of painful silence, Tony started.
“You two fucked last night”.
You mumbled in a professional tone that you didn’t and went back to your scribbling. They were not convinced.
“Your energy changed. You were tense with each other, and now he’s all suave bringing you coffee and calling you his darling”, added Banner. You rolled your eyes.
“We’re getting along better. Now that we have to, because someone couldn’t get me in a separate room with him”.
“Why don’t you just admit you two fucked?”.
“‘Cause we didn’t, Stark. And we’re not going to. We just hang out more often, you know, like friends do”.
“He didn’t call me his darling”.
“That’s because you’re not his friend”.
“Ah. Touché”.
Not another minute of silence went by, that Thor walked in with his disruptive and abrasive energy. You sighed exasperatedly and sat down.
“I see you and my brother have at last made benefit of your marking situation!”.
You frowned and hid your face behind a hand.
“I don’t have time for your riddles, Thor”.
“You and my brother have slept together! I peeped in his room this morning to get a hold on his potion’s book and found him sleeping in bed with no less than our little healer under his embrace!”.
Tony and Bruce looked at each other triumphantly.
“Thor, get out”, you sighed. “We just slept in the same room, and can you, for fuck’s sake, let me do my new job without talking about that certain someone?”.
"Alright. Alright", they said, and didn't plan on dropping off the subject for too long. You sighed and pinched Stark's arm with less carefulness than before. "Auch! Okay, I deserve that".

You did not drink. At all.
There was a reason why you wouldn’t drink. There always was one. You’d have school early the next day —your stomach hurts when you drink wine —you’re training the next morning —you’re too busy to go out on a Friday night.
The real one was that you were actually a lightweight.
Of course, Thor saw right through you. Who other than your Asgardian best friend to take you to a party and try to get you wasted all night long?
It was Saturday, and you were getting ready to leave in two days for your Asgard trip, to learn about the Gods’ physiologies. Loki was sleeping soundly on the couch, and you mindlessly threw a blanket over his shoulders. He shrugged in place and kept on sleeping. Thor observed the interaction with heart-eyes.
“You two should go together to tonight’s party”.
“What party?”, you asked, throwing some socks into your bag.
“Tonight’s! Stark made one for our departure. It would be rude of you to not go. And you’re supposed to bring a date. Why not ask Loki?”.
You blushed and stuttered.
“Well, I— I’m never one for parties, you know… they’re not my cup of tea, per say”.
Thor rolled his eyes.
“Right, but you have no choice on the matter! You’re coming tonight, you should! No excuses!”, he beamed, and you sighed and threw some other clothes onto your bag. “Come on. Ask Loki, he’s been expecting to go with you”.
“What? Why would he?”, you frowned and your flushed face only deepened its color.
“My friend”, he patted your shoulder. As he got closer to you, you could see his tucked in shirt and dress shoes, something he would never wear on his cotidianity. You wondered why he was getting so well dressed for this event, and even in Midgardian clothes. “You’re blind to see his moves on you, aren’t you?”.
“Thor, you idiot”, you chuckled and patted his shoulder back, mimicking his seriousness on the matter. “There’s nothing going on between your brother and I”.
“You are a fool to think he wouldn’t be delighted to join you on the festivities tonight, my friend!”.
“If he was so delighted”, you pointed out, looking at how he so peacefully rested on the common room’s couch, and lowered your voice, “then he would’ve already asked me”.
“He’s just as dense as you are. But fine, if you won’t go with him, I shall take you with me”.
“Thor, I don’t want to go to the party”, you said, closing your bag. “Much less if it’s not with him”, you added, and regret flowed through your blood as soon as the words left your mouth. Loki’s eyebrow perked up, and you realized he was awake. He soon came back to his sleeping façade, and you rolled your eyes.
“So you have been waiting for him to invite you?”, asked Thor, expectant.
You dropped your ass on top of Loki, as if he was part of the couch, and he jumped up out of surprise.
“Excuse you?!”, he exclaimed, bothered. You rolled your eyes and got more comfortable.
“You’re excused. Did you know it’s impolite to eavesdrop?”.
Loki sighed and looked at his brother with impatience.
“Thor, you oaf. I don’t need you to be such a heartmatcher”, he growled the last word and something in your insides twisted and burned. Then, you realized you were very comfortably sitting on his lap. He didn’t say anything, so you just stayed there. “I can ask them out myself, just fine”.
“Oh, so you were going to ask me out?”, you smirked. “I thought the coffee thing was just to pleasure your mother’s wishes”.
He raised his eyebrows in amusement.
“As it happens, tonight my Mother will come too. And she will be expectant of me taking you as my… ahem, date of sorts”, he blushed slightly. “You know. Since we’re both going to Asgard”.
Your eyes shone with expectation.
“You’re coming with us?”.
“Why. Of course I am, darling”, he said as if it were obvious. Then, he took in a breath of air and readied himself to say the words. “I truly would be delighted if you accepted to come with me to this party, too. You know I care for you”.
You sat there in silence, too stunned to move, and you must have made no facial expressions at all, as Loki’s face fell in embarrassment as time went by and he didn’t get any kind of answer.
Thor, on the other hand, had sat on the opposite couch and stared at the two of you as if it were a rom-com of some kind. He was sure you’d accept, so Thor was in no way as nervous as Loki felt when you gave him no answer.
“But, uh, why? Are you sure? I… I mean, if your Mother is gonna be there you might as well try to find a better date than me, for the looks… like…”, you began stuttering once again. Loki chuckled and denied with his head. He took advantage of your closeness to him and surrounded his arms on your shaking body. Staring into your eyes, he said,
“I can’t find a better date than you. Are you coming or not?”.
His gravel voice made his words weigh in your chest even more, and that thing that turned around in your stomach was now set on fire and making you evaporate. He was a charming man.
“If you’ll have me, then yes, I’d love to be there”, you muttered and hid your face.
That embarrassment that had gotten you so peckish about the night prior disappeared as soon as you stepped out of your room, ready to pick up Loki from the compound’s library.
Loki, on the other hand, found his overconfidence vanishing as soon as he saw you walk through the library’s gates in your… not working attire.
“Well, you look… wonderful”, he gasped out, closing his book with a loud thud. You chuckled and made a little reverence.
“Your Highness”.
“Let us go to drink our body weight in liquor, shall we?”, he extended an arm.
His clothes were nowhere near an asgardian suit of armor, as you imagined they would be. On the contrary, a black suit with a dark green satin tie made him look like the true Prince he was, but with some more down-to-Earth undertones. His hair was messily tied in a low bun with a golden and thin hair tie. You couldn’t help the dreamily sigh that escaped you when he looked at you with his intense gaze.
You took his arm and nodded enthusiastically.
That night, Loki took you to the dance floor a couple of times. He swirled you around and you laughed until your bellies hurted. You had your good share of alcohol and started feeling increasingly more and more lightheaded and sleepy.
Loki introduced you to his Mother, and she seemed to be ecstatic to meet you. That, of course, only inforced the idea ingrained in your brain that that mark on your skin was the indicator of something greater bounding you to her son.
But whatever it was, be it the alcohol flooding through your veins, the heat of the moment, the fun you were having at the party, or the almost desperate need you had to know more about whatever made Loki so inclined to be near you ever since you’ve met him —or rather, ever since you threw hot coffee at him—, you felt yourself more and more confident to lean in and ask him for what you craved every time you looked up at his soft lips.
“Loki”, you whispered. He didn’t need to look down at you, he already had his eyes on yours, shining with happiness.
He felt so full of life that night, and he was sure it definitely wasn’t the Asgardian liquor. It had much more to do with your intoxicating perfume, the warmth of your body dancing against his, your fingers threading the hairs of the nape of his neck as he guided you through the dance floor with gentleness.
“My love”, he whispered back. He admired your eyes wrinkle with a wide smile and your cheeks warm up a little more.
“Hunch over a little. I want to kiss you”.
His heartbeat jumped in place and he felt an entire drum orchestra on his chest. He got himself together quite quickly, despite his fervent desires. Hunch to kiss you, he did not, but he got closer to your cheek and left a chaste kiss.
“You’re too drunk”, he whispered with a smirk.
“But I want it”, you whispered back, “you have my enthusiastic consent!”.
He laughed shortly and elegantly, and you frowned, still with a smile on your lips. You couldn’t stop smiling around him, it was crazy.
“Get some rest tonight”, he said, leaving another kiss on your temple, and added with the lowest growl he could muster —perfectly knowing the effect it had on you—, “and come collect tomorrow”.

Loki was very entertained by the book he was reading. Not that he hadn't been before —midgardian literature, if searched well, ended up surprising him greatly. But this time, he found himself lost in between the pages of a book that rested over his nightstand.
He knew, of course, you were reading it. He had all the clues —it was also your nightstand, right?— and even a bookmark with a quote in your handwriting laid happily midbook.
Loki had a plan.
He read up until where the bookmark was, while you were working on Stark's lab. He didn't think he'd enjoy it as much as he did; it certainly was a bonus.
When you finished work, you got to the room tiredly and tossed yourself on the bed, right by him. You groaned in exhaustion and Loki chuckled, helping you off of your lab coat and threading his fingers through your hair.
"Hi", you muzzled your face against the blankets and made yourself a ball right by Loki's stretched legs.
"Hello", he said, laying on his side, forming a body cocoon around you. You hugged his waist and hid your face on his chest. "Second week and so tired, already?", he teased. You pinched his side lightly and laughed.
You stayed silent and then hugged him tighter, breathing in the scent of his thin sweater, smelling of soap and night. His heartbeat thrummed on his chest, as always. Maybe not always, maybe just when you were so close to him.
You peeked at him, and he looked at you back. His eyes wrinkled with smile. You mimicked him. He was so smiley lately. You liked it more than you wanted to admit.
"I don't want to sleep yet", you murmured. He was so close, your noses almost touched. Resting your forehead on his, you made some sort of a purr as soon as his hand traveled to the nape of your neck and caressed it gently.
He was so gentle.
"You need to rest, our trip is tomorrow… I could read to you, yes?", he whispered. His low and raspy voice resonated on his chest, you felt it with your fingertips. "That book you were reading".
"That?", you pointed at it with your chin. He nodded. "But you don’t know what happened before".
"I got to chapter sixteen, maybe you can tell me what happens in the next two and then I'll be updated", he winked. You laughed and kissed his forehead.
"Aren't you just the sweetest".
"You're possibly the only one who thinks that around here", he chuckled while incorporating himself in bed, spreading his legs for you to use them as a pillow.
He reached for a strand of hair and uncovered your face. You smiled.
"I wonder why I think that", you said, and he sighed dreamily. You lowered your voice, and whispered, “you know… you still owe me something from that party”.
“Ah, I said I can’t kiss you when you’re drunk”, he teased. “And you’re inebriated with work, right now”.
You laughed and pulled him over. His lips glided against yours sweetly, not repressing the smile forming at the corners. The kiss deepened as his arms surrounded your back in a tight hug and pushed you against him even further. You tangled your fingers on his hair. You kissed until you were out of breath.
He rested his forehead on yours and your face burned.
“Read to me, love?”.

Loki POV:
Loki his entire life was always acquainted with multiple eye colors, with him being a shapeshifter and constantly playing tricks around the palace with the staff, his brother, and his brother's friends. Blue, green, gray, brown, yellow, purple, whatever color he could think of his eyes could shift to when he was changing form. Somedays, he just changed his eyes, others he would change his entire appearance or to another species. Whatever suited his fancy for the day. Most days, he stayed in his normal Asgardian form, green eyes, porcelain skin, and black hair and went about his days. For several hundred years, both of his eyes were one color, so when he woke up with one eye normal and the other one gray, he was confused. This confusion hit him twofold about 20 minutes later when he was sitting at his desk and felt dread, followed by embarrassment for an unknown reason.
‘By the gods, this is going to be a nuisance.’ Loki thought as he rolled his eyes and left for the dining hall. As he sat down, he wished his mother a good morning and started to make his plate of food. His mother noticed his change in demeanor and asked what was different. He sighed and explained that he got his soul bond and was mirroring the emotions of his bond. His mother nodded understandingly and then changed the topic to the lessons they were to have that day.
Growing up he was taught about the soulmate clause that dictated when a person was in the adolescent stage, one eye would change to match their soul's other half and that they would be able to feel the emotions of the other half. He hit puberty about 200 years ago and was well into his “adult years” (roughly 20 years in midgarden years). He tried to change his eye color using his magic, only for one eye to remain gray.
(y/n) POV
When (y/n) was in elementary school, he took a class that taught kids about “soulmate bonds” and how important they are. The Soulmate bonds dictate that as a kid comes of age, one eye will change to match their Soul’s bonded mate (using the term mate lightly) and it will only change back when they finally meet and make eye contact. The soul bond would also allow the other to feel the emotions of their bond. (y/n)'s eyes were always one solid gray color until one morning sometime in junior high. He woke up and went to the bathroom after grabbing a towel and looked towards the mirror, and froze in his spot. One of his eyes was a light green with a swirl of a sort of various colors to it, like it was dipped in an oil spill. He blinked and rubbed his eyes in disbelief, as if it was just a trick and shook his head. When he looked back in the mirror, he saw that the eye that was once gray was still green. He took a deep breath and took his shower before going and getting dressed, then going downstairs to join his mother, father, and 2 brothers. He sat at the table and said his good mornings before working on making his cereal
‘Be cool. If I don't say anything, mom won't notice.’ (y/n) thought as he started eating. His mom pressed a kiss on his head as she sat down. He continued to try and evade his mom’s sight. When his older brother's eye shifted, she got super excited and started fussing over him and doting on much more, something (y/n) wanted to avoid. A couple years behind his brothers in age, he knew it was coming, and he dreaded it. He was lost in thought when he heard his father call his name. Snapping his head up, (y/n) looked toward his father and internally cursed himself as his mother let out a joyful screech.
“My baby finally got his soulmate eye match! It’s a special day! Come, let mom see it.” His mom said, and he sighed as he looked at her.
“It's not that special, Wyatt and Elijah got theirs already. “ (y/n) said as he stood from the table and went to leave the room.
“ ‘not that special?’ What do you mean not that special. It's the day my baby boy will become a man.” His mother fussed and flicked his forehead playfully. His brothers snickered and sped out the door before they could receive the mom look. (y/n) groaned and blinked in disbelief.
“Mom, I have to get to school.” (y/n) said as he stood up, finishing his bowl, moving towards the door. She sighed and let him go.(y/n) decided he wouldn’t look for his soulmate and focused on his schooling and getting into a good job.
It wasn't until he was in his tech engineering class in his 1st year of high school that he got a hall pass to use the restroom. As he was washing his hands, he noticed that his eye had changed from the green oil spill like eye he was used to, to an icy blue with patches of yellow. He seemed to be caught in some sort of a trance as he watched the eye change color. It was like watching food dye mix with water, going from blue to brown to multiple shades of yellows and oranges, then purple before settling back down on its original color. He decided to start wearing a patch over his eye to hide the color that seemed to change every day to avoid questions
(y/n) graduated highschool in the top 5% of his school and got a full ride to Stark Industries and became an engineering tech, working with Tony Stark personally and becoming somewhat of a personal advisor for the Avengers, regarding equipment tune ups and maintenance. Over the years, he felt a very slight hint of annoyance in his daily life and distaste. He was mainly able to ignore this and continue working. One day, he was off duty and just relaxing in his room and felt a wave of terror and anger rip through him suddenly, knocking the breath from his lungs. He quickly rushed to the mirror to see if the eye would help give him an idea of what was happening. When he looked in the mirror, he noticed the eye that was ever changing, one solid red color. (y/n) was in shock when he noticed that the skin just lined the eye. Maybe an inch around was blue and cold to the touch. He watched as it shifted back to his normal skin tone and watched as the eye changed back, with the red undertone now present, no matter the change in color. He vowed never to let anyone see the eye to avoid the questions that would come with it.
(y/n) was 23 when he fully became a tech for the avengers and moved out his moms house and into the compound, with his own fully furnished room and access to the lab to work with Tony and Bruce. Tony claimed it was because it was safer than living in an apartment complex. (y/n) didn’t see the reasoning behind it but complied, thrilled about not having to pay rent. Tony asked about the eyepatch, comparing him to Fury (which (y/n) didn’t understand since he never met Fury.) and giving him the nickname “Captain (y/n)”, which annoyed (y/n) immensely but he learned to deal with it. Whenever Tony tried to ask (y/n) about the patch, (y/n) said he was in an accident that caused him to lose his eye growing up. Tony knew this was bullshit but never pushed the topic again after he kept pestering (y/n) about it and was snapped at by Pepper for not respecting (y/n)’s boundaries.
Things went smoothly after that, and (y/n) was thankful for it. He continued to work like nothing happened, and it was smooth sailing for a few more years after that. Until Thor came back from Asgard with news. His brother was sentenced to live on midgard with limits on his powers, as punishment for his crimes committed during the Battle of New York. The team was on the fence until Thor explained he would have very limited power, and Hiemdall would have an eye on him at all times. This calmed the team down a bit, and the move started. Tony had the room down the hall from (y/n) renovated and refitted for Loki. The date was set for one month's time on midgard for Loki to be moved in.
One morning (y/n) was getting dressed and watching his eye with interest as it swirled with color when he heard a knock on his door. He sighed and slipped his eyepatch on and worked on braiding his hair to keep it out of the way, ignoring the knock at the door. The knock came again, and he let out a low grunt, then looked at the clock, 8:39 am.
“Just a moment.” He called as he finished up the braid and adjusted the eyepatch again. The knocking persisted. He growled a bit as he slipped his shoes on and made his way to the door. Swinging it open, he looked at the person on the other side.
“What? I’m a little fucking busy right now.” (y/n) snapped and glared at the person
“No need for the attitude, (y/n). You woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Anyway, I wanted to remind you that Loki will be here around 1ish today.” Tony said as he shot (y/n) a shit eating grin, which caused (y/n) to roll his eyes.
“No, you interrupted my routine. Thank you for the reminder. I was about to head down to the lab anyway. Will you be joining me?” (y/n) asked as he moved past Tony, closing the door.
“When am I not in the lab? Of course I’ll be there. Blueberry?” Tony retorted and shook the bag in (y/n)’s direction. (y/n) let a small smile slip and accepted some from Tony as they talked about the new project they would be working on as they walked to the lab. Once they got to the lab, (y/n) shrugged off his overshirt, leaving him in a black, thick strapped tank top, and rolled his shoulders, showing off his tattoos. He had one tattoo that spanned the length of his arm. It was a black and white tattoo of a snake skeleton and crows skull that ended at his wrist and shoulder (the crow skull framing his shoulder) . He had a few small pieces that ranged from his mom's name on his chest and a death head moth on his other shoulder. He made sure his hair was out of the way before getting to work on improving some of the team's gear (mainly Natasha’s widow bites and figuring out a better collapsing system for Clint’s bow) and various other gear that needed upgrading. After tinkering with the gear, he started helping with the project Tony was working on. He got lost in the project until JARVIS announced Thor would be arriving soon. Tony looked at (y/n) and decided it would be a good idea to take a break so he could greet Thor. (y/n) told Tony to go ahead and would see if he could make some progress with the coding and the plating in the new suit Tony was working on. Tony nodded and left (y/n) to work.
A few hours (y/n) managed to figure out that there was a small spot in the coding that caused the program to crash and moved on to fixing the plates that seemed to get stuck when the suit was shifting. (y/n) removed the patch so he could see the plates better. He started to work on it for a while before getting frustrated and called it quits. (y/n) threw the screwdriver in frustration and cringed as it clattered on the floor. He sighed and went to grab it when he felt eyes on him. He looked up and saw Bruce standing there, watching him. (y/n)’s eyes widened as he scrambled to grab the eye patch.
“Shit, fuck. Bruce, you can’t say anything to anyone.” (y/n) said as he slid it back in place and put the screwdriver on the table.
“I won’t tell anyone. But answer me this. Why hide your eye? Having a soulmate connection isn’t something to be ashamed of y’know.” Bruce said as he made his way in the room. (y/n) sighed and sat down on the stool that was behind him
“I’m not ashamed of it. I hid it because I wanted to focus on my life. I don’t want to be bothered with people asking why it was constantly changing and that it never seemed to stay a single color.” (y/n) said as he looked at Bruce, deflating a bit. Bruce nodded in understanding and held a hand out to (y/n), a silent agreement to keep it quiet. (y/n) grabbed his hand, and Bruce spoke up again.
“Tony told me you would still be here, said to tell you that dinner would be done soon and he wants you there.” Bruce said as he took a step back. (y/n) rolled his head, his neck popping as he stood back up.
“He has JARVIS, and yet he sends someone to collect me. No offense, Bruce. (y/n) said as he walked towards his shirt, grabbed it, and led Bruce out of the lab, locking it behind him.
“None taken. I’m pretty sure Tony does that to annoy you.” Bruce said with a little humor in his tone.
“Not surprising, it works.” (y/n) said as he shook his head and started towards the common area. As (y/n) entered the room he saw Thor, Nat, Clint and Steve lounging around the room.
“Good evening, everyone. I am gonna shower, then I’ll be back. As you can see, I am gross” (y/n) said as he motioned to his grease coated arms, stained clothes, and messy hair. Everyone made some motion in acknowledgment, and Thor stood up to greet (y/n).
“Brother (y/n)! After you bathe, would you bring Loki here for dinner?” He asked / exclaimed as He pulled (y/n) in a bear hug. (y/n) didn’t move, exhausted.
“I can try, but no promises.” (y/n) said after Thor let go, immediately moving toward his room. After he entered his room and locked his door, he removed his eyepatch and grabbed a towel. He stripped down and went to the bathroom to shower, glancing in the mirror. He was taken aback that his eye was a soft green, the red undertone a little less visible. After about half an hour of scrubbing and rescrubbing he felt like he had gotten all the grime off and got out, wrapped the towel around his waist and went to his closet and pulled out a pair of jeans and a simple black shirt. He dried himself off and got dressed, then worked on drying his hair before pulling it back in a very loose braid, rebraiding the teal ribbon into his hair in support of her fight against her ovarian cancer. He hadn’t seen his mom in a while but called regularly and learned her cancer had come back. After he was satisfied with his appearance, he slipped on a clean, maroon colored eyepatch and ventured out into the hall and knocked on the door down the hall to his and waited for it to open
After a bit, he knocked again, a bit harder and waited. He was stunned when the door opened and he saw the god before him. Then suddenly his eye stung a bit and he got a pounding headache. (y/n) played it off and told Loki that dinner was ready and tried to put some distance between them. Loki grabbed his arm and stared at him, eyes squinted.
“The eyepatch, What is it for?” Loki asked as he took in (y/n)’s appearance fully.
“I had an accident as a kid, lost my eye as a result. Now let's get moving. Don’t want them to think you murdered me, or whatever”. (y/n) said as he noticed one of Loki’s eyes was the same shade of gray his eye was. He panicked internally and removed his arm away, and basically sprinted down the hall. Loki watched as (y/n) put distance between them and followed behind him, all the more curious.
This continued for months. (y/n) staying away from Loki while not secluding himself. (y/n) decided he needed to talk to Bruce. One evening, he knocked on Bruce's door and waited for Bruce to open up. Bruce invited him in, and they sat down.
“I am gonna say something, and I need you to not freak out or get upset.” (y/n) said as he took the eyepatch off and set it on the bedside in Bruce's room. Bruce nodded and looked at (y/n) to continue.
“I think Loki is supposed to be my soulmate.” (y/n) said and dropped his head as another headache came on. Bruce’s mouth fell agape as he looked at (y/n)
“Are you sure?” Was all that Bruce could muster. (y/n) nodded as a tear fell from the pounding in his head. Bruce sat next to (y/n) and pulled him into a gentle hug and offered to get him some meds for his head and (y/n) nodded, unable to speak. Bruce got up and went to collect some pain meds for (y/n). All of a sudden, (y/n) was in severe pain, and his eye burned like the fires of hell as he collapsed on the ground, the world going black
(y/n) opened his eyes and blinked at the harsh white lights as he tried to sit up, his head throbbing. He was immediately pushed back down as someone stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder. The next thing he was aware of, he had a wider visual field and quickly placed a hand over his face, feeling for his patch. It wasn’t there. (y/n) panicked and started looking for it.
“It’s not here. Don’t freak out. You do have some explaining to do though” Tony’s voice rang out, stern. (y/n) shrunk into the cot, as if he was being scolded for being caught stealing something.
“Yeah, I know.” (y/n) said as his eyes adjusted to the room. Once (y/n) sat up, he asked JARVIS to have Bruce bring his eyepatch, feeling out of place without it. A couple of seconds later, JARVIS sent back that Bruce was on route. Tony sat up and looked at (y/n). (y/n) refused to make eye contact with Tony, knowing that the genius man would be able to figure out that he was hiding more than he let on. The two men sat in an uncomfortable silence, and Tony kept quiet for once while (y/n) was gathering his thoughts.
Once (y/n) gathered his thoughts and got his story straight he told Tony everything from the eye changing colors to talking to Bruce because he caught him without it before dinner (He left out the suspicion of Loki being his soulmate, spare Tony the heart attack). He took a break when Bruce came in to hand the eyepatch to him and asked how (y/n) was feeling. (y/n) gave him a hand motion that signaled he was fine but also still in some pain. Bruce immediately understood and went to get some painkillers for (y/n). Bruce excused himself so he could inform the team that (y/n) was ok.
After Bruce left, Tony looked at (y/n) again, thoughts whirring.
“The fainting spells, are those new?” Tony asked as he stood up. (y/n) rolled his eyes and sent a frown in Tony’s direction. (y/n) swung his legs over the bed and worked on standing up. Tony rushed over to support (y/n) as he attempted to stand. (y/n)’s legs were wobbly, but he stood up and got his bearings. He adjusted his clothing and made sure his ribbon was in place.
“Yes. This hasn’t happened before. How long was I out?”
“Only an hour or so. You scared Bruce to death and had everyone worried, including Loki, which was a bit strange, but whatever. Let's go get some food for you. That should help.” Tony said as he walked with (y/n) to the kitchen in the common area. As soon as he stepped in the room, Peter ran up and hugged him.
“(y/n)! We were all worried about you, even Ms. Natasha. Even if she says she wasn’t. What happened?” Peter asked as he pulled out of the hug. (y/n) walked to the kitchen and made himself something quick to eat and looked back towards peter.
“Don’t worry about me, spiderkid. Things are good. Low blood sugar is all” (y/n) lied to him, to put him at ease
“No, don’t bullshit me. What happened?” Peter said, frown settling deep on his face.
“Truthfully, I don’t know. I was talking with someone, and the next second, I was waking up in Medbay.” (y/n) said between bites of his food. (y/n) didn’t know it, but Loki was lurking in the back of the room, watching and gauging his body language to look for signs of deceit. (y/n)’s whole body showed signs of deception, and it interested Loki further.
After (y/n) ate and chatted with the team, he excused himself for the night and left to relax and get some rest on Tony’s request (hypocrite). As (y/n) looked towards the mirror, he saw his eye was now a deep red, then a feeling not unlike guilt and grief racked through his body as slipped off his shirt, shoes, and pants before slipping into bed and fell asleep, exhausted from the day.
Loki POV:
Loki had been in this place for all of 3 hours before someone came knocking on his door, demanding attention. He ignored it, hoping it would go away. When the knocking persisted, he got up and opened the door. Loki was met with a look of shock and the feeling of astonishment in his gut as this mortal looked at him. Why astonishment? He wasn’t sure. Loki watched as the man in front of him winced and tried to play it off.
“The eyepatch, what is it for?” he asked, curious. He scanned the Males appearance, long hair pulled back into a loose braid with a teal ribbon threaded into the separate lock that was then braided into a big braid, maroon colored eyepatch, plain black shirt and jeans with some boots on the bottom.
“I had an accident as a kid, lost my eye as a result. Now let's get moving. Don’t want them to think you murdered me, or whatever”.” The man said as he put space between the two of them. Loki watched as the man scurred down the hall and out of sight as he felt a sense of panic that fluttered through his chest.
Several months went by as Loki adjusted to the climate of the tower, dealing with the slightly hostile environment. Most of the time, he just stayed in his room, coming out to receive food and bring back his plates, which he washed (he's not a monster. He understands he is a guest, just not by will). Most of the time, he spends reading, practicing his very limited magic or sharpening his dagger and tidying his room up. He also learned the man's name. He can say in his opinion that the name “(y/n)” fits well for him.
One night as he was reading a book that was on the shelf when he felt a pain rip from his chest and he rushed to the door and tried his teleportation into (y/n)’s room. He felt the earth shift, and suddenly he was in (y/n)’s room. He quickly looked around for (y/n), not taking the time to take in the room. He grunted out of frustration and rushed out and into the common room.
Thor stood up and greeted Loki. “Brother what can I do for you?” Thor asked, and he wrapped an arm around Loki’s shoulder.
“No time for pleasantries. Where is (y/n)? I have a suspicion that he is hurt?” Loki said, shrugging off Thor's arm and scanned the room.
“I am not sure. Let's ask around.” Thor said as he put his arm down and looked up towards the ceiling. “JARVIS, where is Brother (y/n)?”
“(y/n) is in the medical bay. He is currently in a comatose state for about 15 minutes” JARVIS reported back. Loki’s eyes widened, and he rushed off towards the med bay. He was close to rushing in when he saw Tony and Bruce sitting by the cot, and he quickly ducked back behind the corner and listened.
After Tony and Bruce finished their conversation, they both left, and Loki slowly slinked over to the bed and placed a hand on (y/n)’s. A strange tingling sensation once their hands connected. Loki stood there for a minute before turning and stopping in his tracks as Tony rounded the corner.
“I don’t know what happened, tony. (Y/n) came to talk to me about something, and he said he had a headache. He asked me to grab him some pain meds if I had any, which we both know I always do for the days I end up hulking out on mission. So I went to grab him some and suddenly he was unconscious on the floor. I panicked and called you.” Bruce said as he stood up. Loki tried to use his cloaking and slip into the room. He stayed in the corner and watched the scene unfold while keeping an eye on (y/n)’s unconscious body.
“Well, hiya reindeer games, what are you doing in here? You hurt or something?” Tony asked, not noticing Loki’s hand touching (y/n)’s. Loki stepped back and walked towards the door
“No, I was looking for (y/n). I will be taking my leave now.” Loki said with a slight snarl in his tone as he exited the room. Once he was out of sight, he teleported back into his room for a while. Eventually, he made his way to the common area to collect dinner. For once, he was sitting in the back of the room while he ate. He heard (y/n) and Tony walk in and watched as Peter got up and rushed to (y/n), asking what happened. (y/n) lied, and Loki couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty, like it had something to do with him.
Loki sat there and listened to the conversation flow between the team before (y/n) called it a night and disappeared down the hall. Quickly and quietly, Loki took his leave and went down the hall towards his room, stopping for a sec by (y/n)’s room. He planned on knocking and checking in on him but decided against it and retired to his room for the night. He spent most of the night thinking about what happened before he drifted off to a restless sleep.

5 years later...
"Stand still, Sophie."
Her hands were working through the fabric in swift moves, the needle cutting through the wool rapidly. A look of concentration painted Y/N's features as her eyebrows pinched together. There was a measuring tape hugging her neck and free falling down her front, her skirt swishing in soft moves as she circled around Sophie, a few strands of hair falling from the updo.
With a satisfied smile etched on her lips, she straightened her back and took a few steps back, admiring her work. "This will do. What do you think? Is the skirt too long?"
The skirt wasn't too long (it actually reached a few inches below Sophie's knees), but shortening it would certainly bring lots of stares and judging scowls.
Sophie shook her head. "No, no, I just- do I even look good in this dress, Y/N? I mean, you've done marvelous work, I just don't know if-"
Y/N crossed the distance between them, her hands resting gently on Sophie's shoulders. She met her eyes in the mirror. "You look absolutely gorgeous. You're making this dress look beautiful, not the other way around."
Sophie smiled, her hand touching Y/N's left one. The cold surface of a ring soothed her skin. When Y/N actually told her a few months ago to meet her in a secluded café, Sophie was actually expecting different kind of news. "I finally bought the house of my dreams" kind. Not the "I just got engaged to the man of my dreams!" kind. It made her do a double take at the ring.
After the war ended, Y/N and Sophie's communication suffered a fall out. Sophie retracted to the country side for a bit of tranquility and nature love (the birds always did sing the sweetest melodies), while Y/N chose to remain in the big city amongst the cars, the ruined buildings and the people who were still trying to heal. "London's in my blood" she had said. And Sophie respected her decision, as she respected her. Y/N was the first friend who actually looked out for her while she was a nurse. They had seen things together. That type of shared pain bound souls. That type of sorrow sew hearts together.
So, when Y/N actually called her up, asking when she'd back in London, Sophie packed her things away and took the first train there.
The city changed, but Y/N didn't. She wore the biggest smile and even a bigger ring. The emerald shone in the light, green hues reflecting on her sweet face. "It's so beautiful, Y/N." had said Sophie. Because it really was. It looked especially beautiful on Y/N's slightly calloused hands from sewing. Tailor hands. Or as Y/N liked to call them: les petites mains.
"Do you think his parents will like me?" asked Sophie in a quiet voice.
Y/N's eyebrows furrowed. "Of course, Soph! Why wouldn't they? You're an amazing, beautiful and smart young woman. The only thing that matters is for him to see you that way, not the parents."
And once again, Y/N was right.
"You're right." sighed the redhead, turning around. "Thank you."
Y/N's smile showed up. "I'm always right."
Sophie chuckled. "Do you need a ride home?"
"No, it's alright. You go ahead. I have to close up anyway. And Loki's coming to pick me up."
Loki.
It felt so long ago when she met him at that doomed party. One last dance before the inevitable, as she cruelly joked. Turned out that the inevitable was a memory she couldn't erase not matter how hard she tried. So, Y/N found solace in tailoring, in velvety dresses, in satin blouses and in shimmering skirts. There was a certain familiarity in the way her hands brushed the textiles, in the way the needles slipped through her fingers. Like she had done this before. Opening up a tailor shop felt as the step in the right direction, as the sun after a rainy morning.
With a peck on Y/N's cheek, Sophie was off putting her coat on and waving excitedly.
"You keep me updated on how tonight goes!" Y/N yelled after her.
"Will do!"
And then, the door closed after her with a soft clink.
Y/N turned around, regarding the room with her hands on her hips. She sighed as she crossed the room to the working desk, her heels slowly killing her feet. A few used fabrics laid around lazily, a sewing machine taking up most of the space. A scissor glinted under the low, yellow light that her cheap lamp sprayed around. Her hands started cleaning around, her skin meeting the soft fabrics.
"You know, darling, this would be easier if you would just let me help you."
His deep voice cut through the silence (and the dreading terror of cleaning up alone) and a small smile bloomed on Y/N's lips. "Pick a broom." she replied.
A sigh. "That's not what I meant."
She finally turned to meet Loki's emerald eyes, a furrow darkening them. "I know that's not what you meant, but I can't just let you do magic around. You're on Earth-"
"Midgard."
"Same thing. And you oblige to its rules. When you asked me to marry you, you knew what you were getting into."
Loki hummed, as he took a few steps closer to her, taking her hand. A soft smile crinkled the corner of his eyes, a look of adoration and sweet love taking over his features. "I did, didn't I?"
"I sure hope so. You can't take it back now." Y/N smirked. "It's too late for that."
He rolled his eyes playfully. "Oh, the horror!"
She laughed, standing on her tiptoes to peck his lips. "Tell me again how we met the first time." she whispered against him.
Loki inhaled a breath, his hands coming to rest on her waist light as swan feathers. "You were buying fabrics and I wanted to buy leather. And then you told me that wool is the better option, as winter was approaching. And then I was bewitched."
"You kept coming back for me." Y/N said quietly, her voice muffled as she let her head fall against his chest.
''That I did. And I always will.'' Loki said, while his lips caressed the top of her head, leaving a soft kiss there.
Silence filled the room, only the distant chatter and cars from outside entering through the confined walls. Her hands touched the back of his coat in gentle moves, much like waves would kiss the shore under the moonlight. And Loki was lost in her again. In the way her perfume got him dizzy, almost drunk. In the way, her hair never actually seemed to stay pinned up, almost stubbornly so. In the way she was still short, even when she was wearing heels. In the way her eyes sparkled when she asked him about their history, a love which had survived centuries. In the way her hands were scarred because she put so much soul in her work, bringing dresses alive. In the way she loved him. ''Dance with me.'' he said, taking her left hand and putting the other one on his shoulder. Her ring was cold to the touch and he started smiling just at the thought of it.
''There's no music.'' she replied, arching an eyebrow.
''Of course there is. Just listen.''
Her ears perked up, listening in and paying attention to any sounds that may cut through the tranquility of the moment. And then she heard it.
Wise man say
Only fools rush in
Her head whipped at the source of the sound, finding a pick-up playing a record on a discarded chair in the corner of her workshop. She turned to look at Loki, but he was already gazing at her, his eyes the color of a never ending forest in which she wouldn't regret getting lost in. He started humming, twirling her gently.
''You should stop doing that.'' Y/N said, a lump caught in her throat.
''Do what?'' he replied, his breath tickling her ear.
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?
''Playing music randomly. How do you do that anyway?''
''It's called magic, darling.'' he laughed. ''And I do it for your eyes only.''
His hands brought her closer, their noses touching. If she would tilt her head slightly, her lips would skim over his.
Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
''I love you.'' Loki whispered, afraid to break the spell, to ruin the serenity. ''I love you in tomorrows and yesterdays. I love you in seconds and lifetimes. It doesn't matter how much time had actually passed because I always come back to you. Time after time, I choose you. Always you.''
Y/N's eyes started tearing up, a rosy blush tinting her cheeks. ''Even if I can't give you everything?''
Take my hand
Take my whole life too
''You already have, darling.'' He lifted her left hand, kissing her wedding ring, his eyes fluttering shut.
For I can't help falling in love with you
For I can't help falling in love with you
Her lips met his in a soft and tender kiss and Loki swore that he heard the angels sing, as the mortals liked to say. It was divine. Heaven on Midgard.
The song stopped playing, but her arms stayed around him in a sweet embrace, a ring glimmering in the late afternoon light.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
She locked the door to her work shop, putting the key safely in her leathery purse, that may or may not be in a dire need of stitching up. Loki stood patiently next to her, hands in his pockets and eyes running over her figure. The sky started falling in the form of snowflakes, littering the streets and roofs with white.
''You know what you said to me when I asked you if you were a tailor when we first met?'' he asked as he admired the way the snowflakes adorned her hair, like a tiara made out of stars.
Y/N took him by the arm and they started walking down the street, people chatting and filling in the air with laughter. Christmas was approaching. ''What?''
''You were repulsed by the idea and then proceeded to tell me you were a tapestry weaver.'' he smirked.
She gasped. ''I did not!''
He barked out a laugh. ''You did!''
She shook her head. "Medieval me didn't know what she was talking about."
"She did, though. She was very passionate, just as you are right now. And making tapestries and dresses aren't that different, after all."
Y/N turned to look at him, stopping in her tracks. The Christmas lights were just starting to make an appearance, reflecting lively colours on Loki's ebony hair. "You're insanely beautiful."
His eyes widened and his cheeks reddened. "That's very kind, darling, thank you. But I should be the one saying that, shouldn't I?"
"I think you should just learn how to drive. My heels are killing me."
His nose pinched up in disgust. "I do no such midgardian things."
She scoffed, patting his arm. "Oh, the horror!" she joked.
He smiled but didn't say anything else, the clicking of her heels against the pavement echoing between them as they turned on a secluded street. "Come to Asgard, love. Let me take you there. Just once."
Y/N sighed. "We talked about this, Loki. My place is not there. I just-"
"You'll get to meet my mother and brother. They'd love you!"
"What about your father? Loki, I don't want to stir up trouble."
He took her by the hands. His touch was cold, but it didn't sent shivers down her spine. On the contrary, it warmed her up. "I'm not really on speaking terms with him, but for you I'd let those differences aside."
"I can't. It's not because I don't love you, because I do, I just don't think my place is there. Look at me, Loki. I'm in my thirties, barely getting by, soon my first strands of white hair will come out. I'm not some norse goddess. I'm just a woman. That's it, just a woman."
He shook his head, gulping down. "That's not true-"
"What will actually happen when I grow old and you're still looking young? When I'm all rocking chair and old slippers? Sometimes I wonder why you came back to look for me." Her eyes got glassy and a sob made its way into her words. "I just- will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?"
He leaned over, his forehead touching hers. "You know I will."
Y/N sighed, closing her eyes and letting her arms rest around his neck. "And I'll love you. But you just can't stop time from doing its thing. Can you?"
"No, I guess not." he replied in a broken whisper.
She lightly kissed his lips, just a fleeting moment before the moon hid behind the clouds, snow falling all around them.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
It was oddly cold that morning. Y/N slipped out of Loki's arms, careful to not wake him up. His dark hair was sprayed around the pillow, much like a halo. He mumbled something in his sleep before he turned his back to her. She took in a breath before she left a feathery kiss on his forehead, the weak morning rays dancing on his face.
She scribbled something on a piece of paper before leaving it on the bed besides him. She skipped breafast, deciding that no morning without having breakfast with him is worth it. She dressed up in the first winter dress she saw (which wasn't very thick to keep her warm, but Y/N settled on wearing it either way, she would come back quickly) and not really bothered on pinning up her hair this time.
With Loki's green coat draped over her, she went out into the morning's first rays, stepping into the soft snow. Her breath was raising into the sky in the form of white ghosts and she already felt her nose freezing.
There was ice on the road, the grey sky reflecting on it. Carefully, she crossed the street and entered a shop. A single bell made her presence known.
"Ah, good morning, miss L/N! How's your father?"
Franklin was smiling as usually, red cheeks and starry eyes.
"He's alright! I reckon he's missing your chats and chess games though."
The old man laughed. "Garwin is such a fox, I'm telling you! We'll catch up over some coffee this weekend. What can I do for you?"
"The usual, Franklin. Thank you."
And then the shop keeper was disappearing through the back door, his steps echoing through the room. Y/N's eyes wandered through the room, the fabrics' colors catching her eyes. There were some turquoise, some ruby red and sunflowery yellow. But her favourite was the emerald green. It reminded her of him.
"There you go, dearie."
Franklin was back, handing her a full shopping bag, a few textiles sticking out. "Thank you." she smiled, before paying and leaving, the bell chiming once again.
With her hands full and the sight of the street being blocked by the bag, Y/N's feet slipped on the ice and the bag went flying high into the air, the fabrics raining in colours. Her head hit the icy ground and she blacked out.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Loki felt it before he knew about it. He woke up with a startling heart ache and a pounding head. His eyes looked for her but only found a piece of paper. The familiar handwriting hit him like an ache in the jaw.
Just went out for some errands. I'll be back in five, don't worry. Love you to the moon and back xx
The shouting in the street reached his ears and he was on his feet in no time, peeking through the curtains.
In years from now he would look back and wonder what he did wrong, where he went wrong. He would blame himself, cursing the odds and time. He never actually believed in fate up until the moment he met her, neither did he believe in death (why would he when he was immortal?), but surely they had a wicked way in proving him wrong.
She was laying in the middle of the road, vibrant textiles falling down and draping over her frail figure. A bloody halo circled her head, staining the ivory snow, and Loki suddenly felt sick.
He ran down the steps of their shared home, out into the cold air and falling onto his knees besides her. Y/N was painstakingly pale, her eyes fluttered shut, lips already turning purple. "No, no, no. Darling, can you hear me? I'm here, love, I'm here."
A pair of hands shook him and turned him away from the body. "Sir? Please, you have to get up and-"
"No, no, she's-" a hiccup, tears falling. "She's my wife."
"I'm sorry, sir. Paramedics will come, but please-"
Loki took a step back, pulling from the stranger's hold. "Stay away from me! She's fine, she's-"
But she wasn't. And he was aware of that, a dull ache in his chest.
I'm not some norse goddess. I'm just a woman. That's it, just a woman.
Her words haunted him and he had to turn his gaze away. He clenched his jaw, trying to swallow the lumps in his throat but failing in doing so.
A single sign illuminated the street in red and green. Merry Christmas!
He laughed ironically, pulling his hair and letting his steps take him away from the scene. There was nothing else he could do. Time and fate. Fate and time.
If he could pay close attention, he could hear the sounds of his heart breaking into pieces.

A/N: I feel like you're gonna hate me for this one. Never in a million years did I think that I'd say: "oh, look I killed off the main character!" Because the main character never actually dies. But it's alright, I'll bring her back from the land of the dead in the next chapter, no worries!
Thank you so much for reading and I appreciate any kind of feedback! If you'd like to be added to the main tag list or the series tag list, all you have to do is to let me know by commenting under this post or by sending me an ask!
That's all for today, take care xx

Tumblr media
3 days. You’ve been by Loki’s bedside, for 3 days waiting for him to wake up.
You read to him and tell him about the comings and goings of the palace. Odin is waiting until Loki wakes before they begin trial. If he wakes..the healers are positive he will but they aren’t sure when he might finally open his eyes.
“You should take a break y/n”, you hear Thor talking behind you.
“I’m good, I’m keeping my ankle elevated and I can’t do anything with these broken wrists anyway.” You hold them up just to prove a point.
He laughs “very well, can I get you anything from the feast hall?”
“I’ll take a plate of whatever they’re serving, thank you” you smile.
“Don’t thank me y/n, if not for you my brother would have been lost to us, Elladan would’ve started a war that could’ve caused losses for both Asgard and Alfheim. I…we owe you so much.”
He didn’t give you time to respond he just walked out of the healing wing.
“Thought he’d never leave”
Great, you’re hearing shit now, you whip your head and around and what you see stops your heart. Loki is awake, he’s awake and smiling at you. Well smiling the best he can with his healing lips.
You release a deep exhale, relief flooding through you.
“Loki.” Annnndd you’re crying, your head falls next to the hand your are lightly holding and you sob.
“Hey, I’m alright. We’re alright.” He repeats until you can finally hear him.
You look up and you both lock eyes, you lean forward and place a light kiss on his lips. Holding back only because of the state of his lips after that horrible threading was removed.
You pull away and Loki’s eyes remain closed, he slowly opens them and stares at you. Tears slowly building in his eyes.
“I knew you would figure it out, I knew you would find me.” He hoarsely whispers.
You placed you forehead against his, “always. I will always find you.”
“And I will always find you, from this life until the next.” He leans in and kisses you now, this one lasting a little bit longer than the last.
Then you hear a throat being cleared.
You separate from Loki slowly and turn around and see a smiling Sif.
“It looks like you are healing well My Prince.” She smiles at the two of you knowingly.
“Yes, I have to say y/n is a very attentive healer.” He winks at you and looks over at Sif.
“Lady Sif, I must thank you for your assistance. You helped my beloved stop Prince Elladan from succeeding with his disastrous plan. You saved our lives, I am forever in your debt.” Sif is at a loss for words, Loki’s making her slightly emotional.
“Of course My Prince, to be honest I only decided to help because this one was very close to being locked up in the area of the healing wing for the mentally unwell.” Sif joked to change to mood.
“Oh please I wasn’t that bad, and even if I was acting a little crazy I was still right, so HA.”
You turn back to look at Loki and he is just staring at you with fondness in his eyes and a smile on his lips.
“When I am out of this bed we are going to have a proper conversation about…all of this” he confidently tells you.
“Yes My Prince.” You lean over and give him another kiss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 weeks have passed since Loki was moved out of the healing wing and into his room to finish healing. Eir has even stopped coming by daily for daily health checks. And to be fair, for the most part he is healed while you are still hobbling around on a broken ankle, thankfully you’re on Asgard so the healers can accelerate your healing some.
It has been an interesting few weeks. At first it was sad, there was a small ceremony for Liv, her family and friends all getting to say goodbye. No one held any grudge towards the girl, Elladan admitted to enchanting her to do what he wanted her to do during the trial that started shortly after Loki woke. He admitted to killing her as well, he smiled at you the whole time knowing how much Liv meant to you, the last bit of pain he could inflict. Elladan was sentenced to an eternity in Asgards dungeons for his crimes against Asgard, murder, kidnapping and impersonating a member of the royal family. If it wasn’t for the fact that Alfheim was still an ally of Asgard and if they hadn’t cooperated during Elladan’s trial, his sentence might have been different. But to keep the peace between realms it was decided he would be imprisoned instead of executed.
Now, you and Loki are sitting in his bedroom on his bed reading, enjoying some quiet time together.
You feel Loki’s fingers trailing up and down your thigh. You look over to him and see him looking at you with hunger in his eyes. A look you were recently introduced to and my goodness….was it a look. It made your legs feel like jelly and your stomach do backflips, and it makes you think back to just a few days ago, to the first time he looked at you that way….
~~~A few days ago~~~
After you were both released from the healing wing, you and Loki sat down discuss the changes in your relationship. What it means for you to be soulmates who are also soul bonded.
“So when did you figure out we were soulmates? You ask Loki as you are getting ready to eat dinner together in his rooms.
“Do you remember when you had fallen horribly ill on one of your first visits to Asgard because you insisted that you could handle Asgardian mead?” He asked you with a smile of fondness.
“Ugh…sort of, I remember puking all over my bathroom floor…. You’re telling me you realized I was your soulmate while you were holding my hair out of my face so I didn’t get vomit in it… Is that what you’re telling me?”
He laughs, “yes y/n, that’s exactly what I’m telling you. Would you like to know why?” Again he’s smiling at you like a lune.
“I’m almost afraid to say yes”. You hide your face, in your hands.
He pulls them off so he can look you in the eyes, “I knew in that moment, I wanted to spend the rest of eternity taking care of you. Keeping you safe and happy, the thought of being without you left me breathless. I didn’t want a day to go by without you in my life, whether it be just friends or someday maybe something more.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“It seems silly now, considering what we just went through. But I thought to myself this was too good to be true, that you were too good to be true. I was afraid that you would reject me if I told you the truth, and I didn’t want to lose you. So I had to wait until you came to the same conclusion as me one day or I make peace with us being just friends. It did not matter how you were in my life, just as long as you were.”
He looks at you and continues, “as far as the bonding, well I performed the rights on your birthday last year. You see, all you needed to do was accept an enchanted gift from me and you had to accept it with your whole heart. To be honest I wasn’t sure if it worked, I wanted to ask you so many times if you felt any different after accepting the gift but I would lose my nerve. But you being able to see through Elladan’s illusion proves that the bonding was successful.”
You thought back to your birthday last year and the gift that Loki has given you, it was a beautiful dagger that he insisted you kept with you on Earth. He said that he wanted to protect you even all the way from Asgard.
“I wish you would’ve told me what was going on.” Tears are streaming down your face from his confession.
“My darling, all you needed to do was love me. That’s all I will ever ask you to do. I know it is a lot to ask, I am not the easiest to love, but please know that I will love you with everything that I am for eternity.” He looked at you with so much love it brought more tears to your eyes.
But then that look of love turned into a look of hunger..
You and Loki made love for the first time that night.
~~~Today~~~
Bringing yourself back to the present, Loki is looking at you with those same come hither eyes.. and you’re here for it.
“Is there something you needed My Prince.” You ask with an innocent voice.
“I believe you know vixen.” He all but growls at you.
“You’re insatiable.” You giggle in between kisses as you move to straddle his lap.
“And you’re beautiful.” He says seriously.
Your kiss gets more heated as his hands start to roam. You slowly start to grind your hips against his growing clothed erection. He starts to thrust his hips upward drawing a moan out of you. He rips off the dress you’re wearing exposing your breasts, he takes turns and shows attention to each one. Taking one nipple in his mouth and then the other, leaving trails of kisses and love bites along the way. You’re running your fingers through his black hair, moaning and getting hotter from all of the attention he’s giving you.
“I need you” he moans against your mouth.
You kiss him hard, “then take me My Prince.”
He flips you over so you’re on your back and kisses down your body until he reaches your hot core begging for his attention. He takes a moment, removes his shirt and dives right back in to your leaking pussy. Licking your slit up, down and alll the way around getting you close to your peak.
“Mm, Loki, I’m close”, you moan.
He stops for a moment and looks up at you ,“cum for me my love, let me hear you”, his tongue reconnects with your pussy and that’s all it takes.
You see stars, you’re screaming Loki’s name but everything is muffled. You’re numb, you’re on another planet. Planet orgasm. And Loki is the world leader.
You don’t even notice he’s removed his aching cock from his pants, he rubs himself against you, getting your juices all over him so he can easily slide into you.
He moans “oh my darling, I will never tire of that feeling. Breaching you, feeling my fat godly cock fill you to the hilt.”
He thrusts, hitting that sweet spot inside of you. He starts slow, passionate and intense and then starts to pick up the pace. You feel yourself getting close again and you begin to feel Loki’s cock start to twitch inside of you. He’s getting close too, you can feel it in his movements.
“Cum with me baby” you beg him.
He looks you in the eyes as he thrusts in and out of you at a more rapid, messy pace.
Your orgasm triggers after one particularly hard thrust and you feel his warm seed fill you not a moment after your orgasm rips through you. Both of you riding out your high together.
Out of breath, but not wanting to move Loki adjusts himself so he’s laying next to you, looking deep in your eyes.
“Marry me y/n.”
You stare at him for a moment to make sure you’re not hallucinating.
Seeing the doubt in your eyes, Loki holds out his fist and opens his hand. A ring sits inside of it.
“I never want there to be any doubt about us, I never want to be without you ever again. You are my love, my life, my dream. I’m nothing without you by my side. I beg of you y/n. Marry me. And when our time comes to be together in the stars, I will find you, and in our next life I will ask you again and again, and every lifetime after that to marry me.”
“Yes, yes Loki!” You kiss him. “I love you so much”.
“And I love you y/n, my soulmate.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few days later during the feast celebrating your engagement, Odin gifted you an apple of Idunn for your assistance with bringing the Alfheim Prince to justice and your part in rescuing Loki. The gift bringing Loki to tears, throwing his arms around his father for a strong embrace. Now he no longer had to worry about losing you too soon. Odin healing some of the wounds between him and his son. Not wanting to wait another moment, Loki cut a single piece of the apple and fed it to you, gifting you with a longer life with your soulmate.
During the feast Heimdall approaches you, “My Lady, congratulations on your impending wedding, I must say the transition after you consumed the golden apple is astounding.”
“Thank you Heimdall.” You respond politely, you still blush obviously, you’re engaged not dead.
“It seems your trip to the library that day was successful, it looks as though you found the answers you were looking for”, he smiles knowingly.
“It was you! You’re the one who gave me the book through that librarian!” You exclaim.
He doesn’t confirm it, he just smiles at you and walks away. The mystery of the golden eyed librarian solved.
Thor and Sif are whispering to each other at the main table, they’ve been courting in secret, not wanting to get Frigga’s hopes up..(too late).
After everything that happened, Sif didn’t want to waste any more time. She told Thor how she felt and was surprised to find that Thor had similar feelings for her.
Thor and Loki surprised you by bringing some of the Avengers to Asgard for the celebration. You love all of them but seeing Pepper made you emotional. The last few weeks had been very difficult, you were so happy about your change in status with Loki but getting to that point was trying. You missed Liv and you wished she was here celebrating with you and finally getting to meet the woman you told her so much about. But you know she would be happy for you and Loki so you think about that instead.
You were surrounded by the people that you love the most.
Everything was perfect, life was perfect and then a terrifying thought hit you.
“Shit…Pepper’s gonna have to find a new assistant.”
Loki’s eyebrows raise, “oh yes, she’s going to be quite upset….good luck with that darling.”
He quickly gets up from the table and makes his way over to Thor and Sif. You can’t help but smile. How could you not? You finally have your Prince, your best friend, your soulmate and soon to be your husband. Your life started out so lonely, no family, nothing, and now you have two families in two different worlds. You couldn’t feel happier and more fulfilled even if you tried.
The end.

A ruby handprint
Written for Day 09 of the February Ficlet Challenge 2023 by @februaryficletchallenge. Prompt: Soulmate AU Also available on AO3.
Fandom: Marvel/MCU Pairing: Loki x Asgardian!Reader Rating: Gen Word count: 898
With a loud thud, your sword fell to the ground, and you froze in place. How did this happen? It just slid out of your hand. Your opponent’s blade didn’t even touch it. With wide eyes, you looked up to Thor who stood in front of you equally surprised. Yet, as the audience erupted in deafening cheers, a grin appeared on his face, and he raised his sword in triumph. Without a second look, you picked up your sword and left the arena, walking back to the palace.
You’ve lost – again. And again, you were out of the tournament after the first round.
It wasn’t fair. You’ve spent the third year in a row training for the summer tournament and were finally feeling prepared to get a place on the winner’s podium. You were of equal combat skills as the Lady Sif and the Warriors Three and had even defeated Thor in a few practice fights before. You should have at least given the oldest prince a difficult fight.
“All your practice was for nothing if you can’t even hold onto a sword”, a voice you knew all too well sneered, and a man stepped out of the shadows. Loki. Why couldn’t he stay away from you for one damn minute?
“Leave me alone!”
“Is this how you talk to your prince?” His eyes glinted dangerously.
“Leave me alone, my Prince”, you corrected yourself and continued your way.
Loki, however, had other plans and stepped right in front of you. You almost collided with his chest but were able to stop just in time.
You furrowed your brows: “What do you want?”
“Oh, I wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you lost such an important tournament – again”, he innocently answered.
He was taunting you as he’s been doing all your life. For whatever reason, you didn’t know. It started one day and has never stopped since.
“What did you do?”, you hissed but didn’t wait for an answer. It was obvious. His stupid magic must have caused your sword to slip. You were better than dropping your sword inside the ring without any previous collision.
“Why do you always have to do this? I had a fair chance to win, just as everyone else who’s participating. You ruin everything, Loki!” You were screaming the last part.
“You’re not like them”, he laughed. “And you never will be. You’re not of noble blood. You don’t have any powers. You’re nothing more than an orphan who got lucky to be raised in a palace.”
The slap echoed loudly along the corridor and a red handprint appeared on Loki’s cheek. For the second time this day, you turned around and left without looking back until you were safely in your chamber. What have you done? They could throw you into the dungeon for attacking a member of the royal family.
Your palm reddened from the force of your slap. Even under a cold stream of water coming from the shower head, the red colour wouldn’t fade away.
Three short knocks on the door had you stop your attempt of washing the evidence away. Were those the guards to escort you to whatever punishment King Odin found appropriate for your misbehaviour?
It knocked again. This time more urgently. So, you decided to get it over with. The earlier the better, maybe the King would understand. To be honest, you didn’t have much of a choice. They’d probably kick the door down if you don’t react.
However, when you opened it, a gasp left your throat at the sight of the person standing there. The handprint on his face had turned darker into ruby and was even more visible than before. Wordlessly, he grabbed your hand and lifted it to his eyes observing your palm. He swallowed then turned your hand for you to see. It was coloured in the same shade of red as his cheek. A soul mark; only appearing when soulmates first touch.
“That can’t be”, you whispered. “If this is one of your jokes, it’s not funny.”
“It isn’t”, he replied. The expression on his face was indecipherable.
It couldn’t be true, could it? Soulmates were a rare occurrence, almost like a fairytale. And if Loki was your soulmate, you would have found out about it earlier, right? He’s been around since you were able to think. You must have touched before? But no, if you remembered correctly, he indeed has been there every day but always stayed at a respectful distance. You couldn’t even remember brushing him in passing. And he has never been one of your opponents in a sword fight either. How was this even possible?
You moved your hand out of his grip and softly touched his face. He leaned into the touch and closed his eyes. A welcoming warmth spread from your fingers through the rest of your body. The red mark on Loki’s skin slowly disappeared. The mark on your palm did too, you guessed.
When Loki opened his eyes, a single tear fell, wetting your fingers and running down the back of your hand. Why was he crying? Have you done something wrong? Did your touch hurt him?
But before you could ask, he leaned forward and closed the distance with a soft kiss. With his lips on yours, you felt complete for the first time in your life.

Intertwined Pt 2: Unspoken truth
Pairing: Loki x Female Reader
Summary: You and Loki are bound together as soulmates through red string. You are also given poems to help you figure it out along the way.
Word count: 4.6k
Tumblr media
Finally recovering from another episode of poems, you gained composer and looked towards Loki. He stared back at you with confusion in his eyes and you thought you saw his lips curve into a smirk. You were pulled from your thoughts when Steve started to talk.
"You know, last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everyone else, we ended up disagreeing" As he spoke, he took more and more steps closer to Loki.
"The soldier" The villain started to chuckle.
"Can I just say Mr Loki, you remind me of a green goblin" You stood beside Steve and Loki's smile dropped.
"A green goblin?" He almost seemed offended and you just nodded your head. "Guess you two are out of time"
"Oh, we're not the ones out of time" Steve replied and behind you Natasha zoomed closer in a ship. She pressed some buttons, which then opened a compartment to lower a gun type weapon.
"Loki, drop the weapon and stand down" The woman you remembered as Nat said on the PA.
"Well that ain't gonna work. While you're at it, you might as well ask him to leave earth" You spoke into an earpiece to talk to the woman and she didn't reply to your sarcasm.
Loki then fired another blue shot. This time to the ship behind you. Natasha steered and dodged, while Steve threw his shield at the villain. The shield came back to him like a boomerang and the man ran and hit Loki over the head with it.
When he didn't fall down, you ran and threw a punch, only to have your wrist get caught. You looked up at the villainous man before you and saw that his eyes were so green, they looked like shining emeralds. You hadn't realised that Loki also stared and Steve punched him again. You were both shook from whatever was happening and Loki and Steve started to hit each other with their weapons.
When Steve was knocked to the ground, you ran up and did a high kick. Loki dodged out the way and the two of you carried on sparring. Only, it was more like you were performing a dance.
"You're a good fighter darling" Loki said as he blocked another punch.
"You're not so bad yourself" You replied with a playful smirk as he grabbed your wrist and you twirled around. You decided to use the full of your power and you reached to touch the side of Loki's head. When you did, Loki just grabbed your wrist again but didnt remove it from its place.
"How did you get here?" Loki realised what you were doing and tried to stop himself from speaking.
"The Tesseract acted as a gateway and I walked through" He replied and then silently cursed himself for being suaded to answer you.
"And why is it, you're here?" You wanted him to answer one more question. You wanted to be of use to Fury and not let him down. However, Loki pushed your hand away before your powers could betray his silence.
"Not this time miss mischief" The male smirked at your annoyed expression.
The dance fighting continued until you were able to land a punch. Part of you meant to punch him like that, but another part felt horrible.
You were going to continue, when you heard rock music playing from the ship and something flying over. The closer it got, the more you saw that it was someone in a red metal suit. They lifted both their hands and shot golden blasts at the horned villain. He flew back to the ground against some concrete stairs and you slightly winced.
The flying figure landed in front of him and he stood in a fighting stance, with weapons popping out from the back of the suit. Steve and you joined him.
"Make your move Reindeer games" The figure spoke in a muffled voice. You laughed and everyone looked at you.
"What, it was funny. Although I like green goblin better" You shrugged and when you looked down, you saw Loki trying to hold back a smile.
Loki proceeded to move his hands apart and slowly, his armour disappeared. Almost like magic and left his heads up as if he was being arrested. In return, the figure also lowered his weapons.
"Good move" Loki stared at you intensely as Steve sighed.
"Mr Stark" You whipped your head around.
"Captain" Was the suits reply.
"Wait! That's Mr stark under there?" You pointed to the suit and Steve gave you a cold stare.
"Yes, it was in the debriefing package that you said you read. Did you not?" The man before you folded his arms and waited for your answer.
"I skimmed it actually" You looked away in embarrassment and Steve just rolled his eyes.
"Either way, good to meet you kid" Stark put his metal arm out and you shook it with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too, big fan of your work" The man chuckled before restraining the villain and loading him onto the ship. You walked behind with Steve.
"So, you're just gonna start acting like a dick to me" You snapped quietly.
"Let's not do this now, we're on a mission" Steve answered you shortly.
"To do what? We won against the villain and now all that's left is dropping him off. Plus he's harmless right now" You whispered back harshly.
"Still, lets not right now" He sped up in front and you huffed with annoyance.
Once the ship took off, you sat next to Loki and stared at him. Steve and Stark stood near the cockpit, all while giving you a confused glance. Stark had finally removed the mask on his suit and looked just like you imagined. He had brown spiky hair and a goatee.
Loki never looked in your direction, but you could tell he knew what you were thinking.
"I don't know anything about what we saw" The man turned to you with a sort of sad smile and you found yourself focusing in on his emerald eyes again.
"I wasn't thinking about that" When in actual fact you were and now you were looking at every detail that formed on his face.
"Don't try to deceive me, you're not the only one that can read minds darling"
"don't call me darling" You chuckled.
"Why ever not?" Loki spoke with such a soft tone, that you felt small Goosebumps on your arms.
"Because, you don't know me and i don't know you"
"Trust me, there'll be plenty of that in the future" The male gave you a wink.
"Sure" You smirked.
"Only to agent y/n" You heard Natasha whisper into her headset.
"I'll be right back green goblin, don't go anywhere" You patted the villain on the back and he smiled softly.
"I don't like it" You heard Steve say.
"What don't you like?" You asked and the man slightly glared at you.
"I don't like the fact that you're acting all chummy with that guy" Steve pointed to Loki.
"Are you jealous of a villain? Cause last I checked we weren't anything, exclusive" The last word rolled on your tongue like a bad taste.
"I'm not jealous" The blonde retaliated, but you could clearly see him clenching his jaw as if to stop himself from throwing any punches.
"Then what is it?"
"It has never been that easy. He packs a wallop" That's when you chuckled.
"Still, you are pretty spry for an older fellow" Stark joins. "What's your thing, Pilates?"
"What?" The question caught Steve off guard.
"It's like calisthenics. You must've missed a couple things, doing time as a Capsicle" Stark finished and you snickered at the new nickname until you calmed down.
"Nah, goes to the gym and punches the bags till they fall off" You reply without thinking.
"Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in" The blonde ignored your response.
"You told me you knew and that it was in the debriefing" You yelled.
"I lied, just wanted to mess with you" The male shrugged.
"Well, there's a lot of things Fury doesn't tell you" Stark answered.
Before you knew it, lightning was shooting out left, right and centre around the ship. It was almost like it came out of nowhere. Everyone looked to Loki and he had an expression that made him seem uncomfortable and worried.
"What, scared of a little thunder?" Steve asked.
"I'm not overly fond of who follows" You questioned his meaning and soon heard a thump on the top of the ship.
"I swear if that's an enemy of yours, I want no part of it Loki!" You stated as you threw your hands in the air. Stark put on his mask and opened the end hatch.
"What're you doing?" Steve asked and a tall figure dropped on the platform.
"Stark is apparently being hospitable and letting this asshole in" You gestured to a man who wore some type of silver armour and a red cape. He had long hair, which was blonder than Steve's and a stubble. "Sorry sir, would you like anything to drink?" You sarcastically gestured for the man to enter and bowed.
Tony stood in front and the stranger smashed an unseemly large hammer into his chest, leaving him to fly backwards. The man then moved over to where Loki was and pulled him up to face him. They stared for a few seconds before Loki was dragged out the ship.
"Get back here, we need him!!" You yelled as you chased them to the platform and stopped when they dropped out.
"Now there's that guy" Tony said as he finally stood back up. You stormed back over and punched Steve in the arm.
"Is he Asgardian?" Nat asked from her pilots seat.
"A friendly?" Steve asked.
"Is he an accomplice?" You asked.
"Doesn't matter. If he frees Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost" Was all Stark replied with as he started walking back to the end of the ship.
"Hey, we at least need a plan tin can" You shout as you followed the suited man.
"I have a plan and don't call me that" You could imagine him rolling his eyes.
"I'm coming with you then" As Stark started to fly to the ground, you jumped after him and grabbed his foot.
"Are you kidding me? Let go!!" Stark yelled down to you as he lost his balance.
"No, I said I was coming" As you spoke, you started to lose your grip and then all together, fell from the sky.
You plummeted to the ground and screamed as much as you could. Looking up, it didn't seem that Stark realised you had slipped. You continued to scream until you felt a pair of strong arms grab you in a bridal style and flew to the ground. It wasn't till you looked up, that you saw the man who took Loki and that you were stood atop a mountain.
"Are you alright?" The man spoke with concern and had had ocean blue eyes.
"Huh, so you do have manners" You plopped out of his grasp and saw Loki in front of you. "Two of you working together or is this some kind of rivalry?" You pulled your lips into a tight line as you heard Loki laugh.
"Ha, that's funny. No, this runs deeper than rivalry darling" He smiled wickedly.
"We're brothers" The man behind said and your eyes widened.
"Sure we grew up together, but I was always a shadow to his greatness" You saw the slightest bit of pain wash over Loki's face before it disappeared into darkness. "I have seen the true power of the Tesseract, and when I wield it..."
"Who showed you this power? Who controls the would be king?" The blonde walked closer to Loki and grabbed his shoulders.
"I am a king!!" Loki yelled and you flinched.
"Not here!" The man yelled back and you walked beside him.
"Loki, where is the Tesseract?" You asked softly as you carefully placed a hand on his cheek. The villain looked at you with sadness and then a smile.
"I don't have it my dear" The blonde beside you went to throw a punch and you stood in the way, taking the hard blow. Before the male took a step forward, you saw Stark fly into him and past you and Loki.
You dropped to the ground and clung to your cheek. The pain caused a ringing in your ears and your cheek felt hot and tingly. You felt arms hold you by the shoulders and then someone lift your chin up. Tears began to prick at bottom of your eyes, threatening to drop. When you finally looked up to see the figure, you were surprised to see Loki and that's when the tears ran down.
"Why are you crying my dear?" He wiped your cheeks softly and smiled.
"Why didn't you run?" You spoke between cries.
"I'm sorry? I don't think I follow"
"Why didn't you run when that guy got flown to god knows where?" You looked at him quizzically.
"Because you're hurt" He furrowed his brows as if it was the most obvious answer and you grinned. "Now let me see" Loki whispered as he took hold of your hand and moved it away from your cheek.
"Is it bad?" You muttered and the man shook his head.
"Just red, but should go down soon" The male stroked the redness of your cheek and you felt the ease of where the pain used to be.
"Thank you, Loki"
"Anytime, darling" You playfully pushed his shoulder.
"Thought I told you not to call me that"
"And I thought you knew, I don't listen to anyone" The male chuckled and locked eyes with you. You both inched a little closer and then heard a loud crash, snapping you to look away from one another.
Loki coughed behind you and you took in a big sigh. Hearing a few yells you turned to see that at the bottom of the cliff, Stark and the blonde were in the middle of a fight. The guy with the hammer, lifted it high and conjured up lightning.
"You have got to be kidding" You gritted and Loki laughed at your reaction. "What you laughing at green goblin?"
"No reason" He shrugged as the guy then shot the lightning towards Tony, frying up his suit. However, he shot right back.
Tony flew at the blonde guy and they continued to fight as they drew further away from you.
"Guess they forgot I'm here" You threw your arms up and slapped your lap.
"I'm sure they'll return" Loki stood up.
"Leaving already?" You stared at him wondering what to do now.
"If I stay, I'll get caught and I've had enough of that for one day" He smiled widely and you too stood up.
"What makes you think I won't stop you?" You folded your arms over your chest and Loki walked up to you. He leaned in and his lips brushed against your ear.
"Because you wouldn't of stopped me if I had kissed you moments ago" His voice was barely a whisper and his breath felt hot against your skin.
You could of sworn that the redness from where you were punched grew even redder. You tried to respond but your voice had hitched and you just stood awkwardly as Loki turned away and fled.
Soon, you heard a sort of explosion and carefully ran down a narrow path that led to the bottom of the cliff. You ran and made it to the guys before they all thought you were dead.
"Miss me" You grinned widely and Tony shook your hand.
"Thought you were dead pipsqueak" You rolled your eyes at the new name.
"At least it's better than Capsicle" You laughed as you looked to Steve.
"Midgardian, we haven't formally met. I'm Thor" The blonde who saved you smiled.
"Nice to meet you, I'm y/n" You smiled back.
"As much as I like meetings like these. Here's a question agent, where's Loki?" Steve asked harshly.
"He got away from me" You lied and then you heard Nat on your headset.
"We've located and restrained Loki, come back and we'll head to Mr Fury" The woman spoke and the line went dead.
Steve held onto Tony's hands as he flew up and you held onto Thor. It didn't take long for your small group to reach the ship and when saw Loki, you gave him a sad smile.
You never said a word until you reached the larger ship that Fury was on. A few guards had come to collect the villain and escorted him through some doors and your group made its way to the bridge. Everyone was listening in to Nick and Loki's conversation through a PA.
Although everyone was listening, your mind was elsewhere. You would be too, if it wasn't for the man who almost kissed you. You felt for your lips and tried to imagine what it would've been like. Soft and sweet or rough and heated. Banner spoke and it snapped you from any thoughts that should be like forbidden fruit to you.
"Really grows on you doesn't he?"
"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Steve asked the man that stood deep in thought.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not from Asgard, nor any world known" He sadly looked around the room of your group. "He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth, in return, I suspect, the Tesseract" He finished.
"An army, from outer space" Steve looked to the group and then you.
"He's building another portal then" You roll your eyes.
"That's what he needs Erik Selvig for" Banner finished.
"Selvig?" Thor looked at the man quizzically.
"He's an astrophysicist" Banner replied.
"A friend" Thor responded.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell" Natasha mentioned with a sadness upon her face.
"And one of ours" You mentioned.
"I want to know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here" Steve wondered aloud.
"Then let me go in and find out" You stood in front of Mr Capsicle.
"Y/n, I don't think we should focus on Loki right now" Banner defended.
"Well you guys can focus on other situations, I'll focus on Loki" You stormed out to the hall and heard footsteps behind you.
"You do know he killed 80 people in 2 days right?" Nat warned and you continued walking.
"Y/n, wait!" Steve yelled as he grabbed your arm to turn you around. You shook it off and stared daggers into his gaze.
"What do you want Captain?" You spat out the last word and Steve winced.
"I'm sorry, about before. I never once thought it was just fooling around"
"Then why lie to me? Why hurt me like that?" Every question was finished with a tear staining your cheeks.
"I don't know, maybe I didn't want a repeat of what happened to me last time" Steve looked at the ground and your heart broke. You felt for his cheek and smiled weakly.
"I'm sorry, but you have lied to me one too many times now, it's best we just leave it in the past now"
You turned to walk away again and this time, Steve pulled you back and locked his lips with yours for a brief second. He let you go and without another word left to head back to the bridge.
You found the room that was holding Loki and with a deep breath, you walked in. Seeing Loki had somehow put your mind at ease and made you question what you were doing.
"Hello daring, miss me already?" The mischievous man smirked towards you.
"Always the charmer aren't you?" You smirked back and walked closer to the cage. "You gonna tell us anything about your intentions?" You looked at him hopefully.
"Sorry dear, I can't do that" His smile faded and he continued to stand tall before you.
"Can't, or won't?" You folded your arms over your chest as the god before you thought long and hard.
"Won't I'm afraid" He shrugged.
You pressed some buttons that opened the door and when you walked in, they shut automatically.
"Will you tell me anything that's the truth" You pleaded and the man smiled weakly.
"I like you miss mischief" He smiled as he caressed your cheek and you did the same.
"Then tell me why you let yourself get caught" You smiled slightly in hopes he'll allow the power to force his truth out.
"Sorry darling, that doesn't work on me anymore" The man smirked devilishly as he lightly touched your hand.
He gazed deeply into your eyes as he inched in closer. He then placed another hand upon your hip and pulled you in to meet him in the middle. Your breath hitched from the fast movement and you locked your eyes onto the lines of his lips. You threaded your fingers through his hair and pulled him in to close the remaining gap between you. You pulled away just as quick as you went in.
"I'll continue to play your little game, green goblin" You winked and walked out the prison cell.
"Touché, my dear" The villain laughed as you left to head back to the bridge.
Everyone turned and stared you down when you returned.
"Where've you been agent?" Tony asked and you shrugged in return.
"Thought I could get info from greenie" You answered.
"Anyway, me and Banner are going to do some tracking, you in to have fun?" Stark patted you on the back as the two left the room and you ran after them.
You mainly looked at the sceptor and listened as the two men geeked out about the science of it all. Tony also shocked Banner on the side and you laughed.
"You really have got a lid on it haven't you". Stark seemed impressed and you heard the yelling of Steve behind you.
"Is everything just a joke to you?" His voice boomed in the room.
"Steve, it's okay just calm down" You stepped in front of him.
"Funny things are" Tony put out bluntly and you turned to glare at him.
"Not helping" You spat.
"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship, isn't funny. No offence doc" Steve's glance was cold.
"Why don't you leave and cool down for a bit?" You tried to push the tall male through the doors, but failed.
"You need to focus on the problem Mr Stark and y/n why don't you leave instead" Steve spoke harshly.
"Because I don't want to" The glared at the man and looked back at Tony.
"First off, leave y/n alone. Second, what, you think I'm not? Why did Fury call us in? Why now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us?" Starks questions made you stop and think what you hadn't thought before until now.
"You have a point"
"I can't do the equation unless I have all the variables"
"You think Fury's hiding something?" Steve questioned.
"He's a spy Captain. 'the' spy, his secrets have secrets. Bugging her too, isn't it" Tony pointed to you and you nodded slightly.
"Not as much as Einstein here" You chuckled and you saw Tony's lips twitch up a little.
"What about you doctor?" Steve asked as he faced Banner, who sighed.
"'A warm light for all mankind' Loki's jab at Fury about the cube" He started.
"Yeah, we heard it" You pointed out.
"I think that was meant for you" Banner turned to Stark. "Even if Barton didn't tell Loki about the tower, it was still all over the news"
"The Stark tower? That big, ugly..." You elbowed him in the arm to shut up and Tony gave him a sort of sad glance. "Building in New York?"
"It's powered by an arc reactor, a self-sustaining energy source" Banner continued.
"So, your saying, it could run itself for like what, a year?" You asked.
"It's just a prototype" Tony shrugged it off. "I'm kind of the only name in clean energy right now"
"Then why didn't S.H.I.E.L.D bring him in on the Tesseract project?" You pointed out the big question.
"And what are they doing in the energy business in the first place?" Banner joined.
"I guess I should look into that once my decryption program finishes breaking into all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secure files" Tony starts to walk out as he looks at a tablet in his hands.
"I'm sorry, did you say..." You look at Steve.
"Just let him do his thing, maybe he'll find something useful"
"Jarvis has been running it since I hit the bridge. In a few hours, I'll know every dirty secret S.H.I.E.L.D has ever tried to hide"
"If you get caught, you're screwed" You laugh nervously.
"Maybe, blueberry?" He offers you a container of the fruit and you gladly took a few.
"And you're confused as to why they didn't want you around" You glared at Steve again.
"An intelligence organization that fears intelligence? Historically, not awesome" You laugh at Tony's comment and Steve rolls his eyes.
"I think Loki's trying to wind us up. This is a man who means to start a war and if we don't stay focused, he'll succeed"
"Have you questioned him about his motives yet?" You glance at the tall blonde in front of you.
"No, but I'm sure you have" He smirked, but in a dark way as if he knows what happened in the cell.
"Like I said, my power doesn't seem to work on him anymore" You said simply.
"Anyway, we have orders and we should follow them"
"Followings not really my style" Tony answered.
"And you're all about style aren't you?"
"Okayyy, I'm gonna leave you boys to do whatever the hell you're doing and I'm gonna rest up" You patted Tony on the shoulder and left for your room.
The walk to your room was long and you were able to think about the events that took place. Starting with the poems, the red string that connected you to Loki and then the kiss. Although it was short, you still felt the tenderness of his lips, they were soft and kind.
Once in, you sat at the edge of the bed and opened browser on your phone. You finally typed in about red string and found that it appears when soulmates are finally united. Then you realised, if you and Loki shared the same strand of red string, it meant you were...
The excruciating headaches returned and you screamed in pain. Then you heard the familiar voice call to you.
His raven hair, like midnight's cloak,
Frames a face with secrets spoke.
Fair features veiled in cunning disguise,
A master of chaos, with clever eyes.
A hue of green adorns his sly disguise,
A colour that holds secrets, worth the prize.
Like the lush grasses in a hidden grove,
Or the envy that fuels his plans, bold and rove.
The poem was longer than before and more descriptive. The headaches stopped and you heard yelling outside your door. Getting up slowly, you walked and opened it to see the guys and Nat standing there panicked.
"What's wrong?" You asked innocently.
"We heard you screaming, is everything okay agent?" Natasha asked as she checked your body like Steve had before.
"I'm fine, I just saw a spider. It's gone now though" It was the most logical answer you could come up with on the spot.
Everyone looked at you suspiciously, but all left anyway. You thought more on the new poem and you knew what the unspoken truth was. Loki was your soulmate and you are linked for eternity.

They were everywhere.
Wherever you went, all you could see was them. Whether it was that cafe around the street, or your office, or even while you tried out clothes at JC Penney while they had an end-of-season sale.
Every phone, social media platform, television, laptop - all platforms of technology was enamored by them and what they represented.
Heroes.
That’s what the world saw.
And that’s how you wish you could see them as.
It wasn’t easy; moving out of their lives and living on your own after so long. It wasn’t easy, trying to move on. It wasn’t easy.
Nothing was easy without them.
But you needed time. You needed to tend to the wounds your soul had to bear throughout the years. You needed to heal from the pain you’ve locked away.
You needed to feel again, even if it scared you.
Your life was so empty; you hadn’t realized how you’ve given up all of the things just so you could focus on your partners. ‘However, no time like the present to begin anew, right?’, you thought glibly, as you typed away in the empty spreadsheet on the computer screen.
So, you signed up for hobby classes - pottery, yoga, guitar lessons - anything to kill the time with. You even decided to went to one of those anonymous groups to get rid of your cigarette-addiction - twice a week.
Many would say you’re changing. Improving, even. You’d like to beg to differ.
You’re just trying to survive. Existing in a vast world with possibilities you had overlooked for only one outcome you wanted. And now, you’re forcing yourself to make peace with all that you have lost.
Days pass by the same. The sun rises and it sets. Night falls, and so do you.  Tears are shed into the confines of your bed. Bloodshot eyes look at the world in a dim light and wonders if being alive was so great after all.
But then again, you wouldn’t get to meet the dogs in the park, or listen to your favorite songs while you cooked or cleaned in your kitchen, or read novels by your favorite authors, if you had decided to give up.
You’re breathing and it’s okay if you’re slow.
You remind yourself as you navigate the streets of New York in September. The air is already tinged with the smell of autumn and fallen leaves. Warm hues of orange, red and yellow fill your vision and makes your heart sing in contentedness. The bakeries smell of bread and pumpkins and spice. The soft heat of the dusking sun is a welcome surprise on your cold skin. Scrolling through your phone mindlessly, you stumble upon an unchecked message sent three hours ago. And that message ruins whatever little fantasy you have deluded yourself into living.

Midnight but bright with emotion.
Storm in a moment clears
For a chance, any chance.
But deeply dug in a quaking life
Leaves the burden in the branches,
Tossed through time.
Dim but sharp with intention.
Dull waves twist a rhythm
For a purpose, any purpose.
Making a sublime mess of memories,
Strikes at truth blurred in the sand--
Always found alone.

Gods and Monsters: Sneak peak
Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader
Warnings: Unedited drabble of sorts, minor character death but its to be expected
A/n: This is a bit short but I figured I would start off with something smaller. I have some more things planned with this story but wanted to kind of start off by giving just a little intro and sort of background to everything before I really got into some more detailed events between the characters. Also in case it isn’t clear this is a soulmate!AU where you have your soulmate’s and your enemy’s initials written on you but you don’t know which is which. - G

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/n never really felt like she belonged anywhere. Her parents didn’t want her and it wasn’t until a certain Agent Coulson found her that she felt like anyone really cared for her. Even then, she was so used to people leaving her that she tried not to get to close. Y/n had a halfway decent life until she turned about 11. Her uncle had taken her in, and sure he could be rough, but at least there was food on the table and a roof over her head. That was until she began to get migraines more and more often. For her uncle it wasn’t the migraines though, not really, it was the power that came with them. It was the idea that his niece could manipulate him into feeling anything she wanted, not that Y/n knew that. She was more focused on getting through school and getting the hell out of dodge. Unfortunate, she wouldn’t really have the chance to. By the time she was 13 he had had enough of her unintentional empathy and had kicked her out onto the streets. A few years later Coulson had found her. She had convinced herself back then that eventually he would leave her too. That had been ten years ago and, despite how hard she tired, Coulson grew on her. The agent had given her a home, training, education, hell he was the reason she had a job right now.
“I don’t even know why you want me, we agreed a long time ago that my powers don’t exactly make me exceptional out on the field.” Y/n sighed as she looked to Phil who was telling her about some Avengers initiative program he and Fury were working on.
“They make you perfect for interrogation though.” Coulson hummed as he looked to the girl that he considered to be his daughter at this point
“I’m not just some lie detector Coulson.” She huffed
“No, you have other useful skills.” Coulson moved to sit next to her. “All I’m saying is give it a chance alright? Its not going to be something we put into action anytime soon-“
“You just want me to be on call.” Y/n deadpanned
“Maybe, or maybe I want you to finally have an excuse to meet Captain Rogers.” Coulson smiled
Y/n looked down at her hands, her hand absentmindedly rubbing over the small S.G.R. that was inked into her flesh between her thumb and pointer finger. “You are aware of how many people with his initials there are.” She frowned
Y/n had given up on finding her soulmate a long time ago. With everything that she had been through she doubted he’d want her anyway. Hell, whoever they were would probably think she was manipulating them into loving her anyway. She wasn’t even sure if anyone could truly love her if she was honest.
“Besides, for all you know S.G.R. could be my arch nemesis.” She shot him a small smirk
“Well if you manage to be the lucky girl that gets to have Captain America represented in a soulmark I can’t imagine it would be for bad reasons.” Coulson hummed as he passed her the file. “Just think it over, if we really need to use the Avengers I’ll give you a call, ok?”
“Fine.” Y/n sighed as she took the docent and began to flip though it. Coulson, satisfied with himself, left her room.
A few months later she agreed to join the team and a couple months after that the initiative was called into action. She made her way to the helicarrier, one of the first to arrive. Everything she needed was already there as Coulson had always made sure to take care of her. She spotted a man in a plaid shirt looking out into the water and figured it was best to get introductions over with. She walked to a spot beside the man and cleared her throat.
“You must be the famous captain.” Y/n hummed as she looked to the acclaimed hero beside her
“And you must be Y/f/n Y/l/n.” Steve smiled as he turned and looked down at the girl
“Coulson?” She asked
“Coulson.” He confirmed
She just nodded in response, staying silent for a moment. He reached his hand out to her and she shook it. She looked to his hand and noticed that her initials were inked into his skin just as hers were.
“Guess I owe him 20 bucks.” She sighed, taking a deep breath as she looked up at him for the first time. She couldn’t deny that he was absolutely breathtaking. The perfect vision of American beauty. He wasn’t exactly her type, but she’d heard enough about him to know he was a nice guy.
She was drawn from her thoughts by Steve’s breathy chuckle. “Hopefully that’s not a bad thing?” he raised a brow “What I mean is, if you don’t want to act on this we don’t have to. We can get to know each other, take things slow?”
“I think I’d like that.” She agreed before the two were pulled away from their conversation by some more newcomers.
----------------------
The battle of New York was one of the worst days of Y/n’s life. She wasn’t necessarily a superhero when it came to strength and agility, and she was definitely no Black Widow. The effect it had on her body was the least of her worries though. She had lost the one person that she had ever believed cared about her. When Loki had killed Phil Coulson her suspicions about the L.L. written on her ankle being her enemy was confirmed. She would never be able to forgive anyone for hurting what little family she had. Throughout everything Steve had stayed by her side. Even when he certainly didn’t have to. He had every excuse to just leave once the battle was over but he made an effort to come visit her as much as he could.
Y/n had to admit she was growing quite fond of the soldier. She was everything he could’ve hoped for in a soulmate. He cared for her, he was understanding of her powers, and he gave her the space she needed while still being there for her. Even if things seemed off every now and then she made a vow to make an effort, she knew that’s what Coulson would’ve wanted for her.

A/n: Again sorry its short but I hope to keep working on things! -G
