Paladin Subclass: Oath of the Martyr
I've never done anything like this before, and as a result this is certain to be a bit janky, if not completely unbalanced, but if you're looking to dedicate yourself to sexy self-sacrifice in your next dnd game, I made a paladin subclass just for that!

OK, so. Finished my first run. Gotta admit I'm not 100% satisfied with some endings. BUT NO BIGGIE, THAT'S WHAT HEADCANONS ARE FOR, DON'T WORRY I GOT A PERMIT (i'm a Dungeon Master) SO LET'S GO, HC TIME D&D STYLE BC WE STILL GOT 8 LEVELS TO GO: (spoilers for BG3 and Descent Into Avernus going forward)
They'd all stay together and continue to go on adventures, the 8 of them, Tav, Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Gale, Astarion, Wyll, Karlach and Halsin. Found Families stay together. (I do enjoy the polyship aspect too, so just throwing it out there) There's an exchange you can have ingame with an NPC in the Guild and Tav will say the party's name is Wormskulls and I love it. I do also love Tadfools. Maybe they are Wormskulls to the general public and Tadfools to their close friends and allies lol. After the tadpoles are gone I think it would be very useful for them to commission earrings enchanted with Rary's Telepathic Bond. Less invasive than a mindflayer tadpole and just as useful. Also symbolic for Gale. I think the earring would have a pendant of a skull with a serpent coming out of its eye and being bitten by the teeth.
OK SO, my girl Karlach. I haven't romanced her yet, gonna do a run for that. But she's not dying on my watch. She's going back to Avernus, BUT YOU CAN BE SO SURE THAT THE MOMENT THE WHOLE PARTY IS READY WE'RE KICKING DOWN ZARIEL'S DOOR AND KICKING HER ASS. Or giving her her sword back and possibly turning her back into an Angel, something that whatever party of adventurers that managed to save BG and Elturel in Descent Into Avernus CLEARLY didn't do, it would probably not only nullify Mizora's contract with Wyll bc Zariel is now a completely different entity, if you decided to redo Wyll's contract with her, but also would give us a better chance of Zariel taking the infernal engine out of Karlach herself. Maybe turning Wyll into a Devotion Paladin? (more details about Zariel here) I'd ask Jaheira and Minsc to take care of Scratch and Albie (owlbear cub) because the Hells is no place for pets. Even very brave ones. Maybe Halsin's "ending" fits here, taking care of the pets and the kids while everyone goes to Avernus, they leave him with a Sending Stone. And when they are back he's there waiting for them. 🥺
If we saved Duke Ravengard and broke Wyll's contract. (or didn't but are hcing that we broke his contract by defeating/unmaking Zariel) what does that mean to Wyll? I think it be super cool to go more in depth about it. How does he reconsile with his father? Does he accept to be reinstated as heir and becomes the Duke right away or does he think it's best for his father to continue his role a bit longer? Does he even want to be Duke or does he think he can serve the people of the Sword Coast better as an adventurer? If he turns into a Duke, what sort of benefit does that give an adventuring party?
Finding something to make Astarion able to walk in the sun again I've seen people talk about the Ring of the Sun-Walker as if it's from the 5e books, it's not, it's homebrew. HOWEVER, any freaking DM with a heart would create something similar for their player to continue playing without being afraid of dying instantly bc of the sun. The Cloak of Dragomir is canon to the Baldur's Gate videogame universe, so it be a good tie in, but it would be a temporary solution at best since it penalizes the player quite harshly, Strength: -6, Dexterity: -4, Intelligence: -2, Wisdom: -2, Charisma: -4 and Vampire Regeneration divided by 3, to 1 HP per 3 rounds. That being said, I wouldn't make it TOO easy to obtain as there are other ways for Astarion to be safe, like the Darkness spell. It would be interesting to see him (and Tav) struggle a little bit more, really feel the sacrifice Astarion made by rejecting the Ascendance even after they find something to combat the Sunlight Hypersensitivity. Astarion's biological family would be something very interesting to explore in the future. They would be Elves themselves and are most likely still alive, we even have a surname thanks to people analyzing the shit out of that tombstone: Ancunín. As a DM I wouldn't wait for a player to decide to search for these people, I'd throw them at the players! Strolling through the Upper City in a quick shopping trip? You hear a loud gasp, things clattering and bumping into the ground, hurried desperate steps and then someone sobbing "Astarion?? Astarion is that you?!" What do you do?
Visiting Waterdeep and Morena Dekarios. This woman deserves to see her son again, and Gale deserves to finally go back home and see his mom without the burden of an ancient artifact lodged in his chest and a goddess wanting him to kill himself. Would he stay? I'm not sure, he went through an entire Hero's Journey and maybe now home, although pleasant, is not as comforting anymore. Waterdeep is the element of Gale of Waterdeep and he's not him anymore. I think this would be a great premise for a roleplay focused arc. Gale is invited to the Blackstaff Ball for the first time since Mystra shunned him, the Wormskulls are famous now, The New Heros of Baldur's Gate (Gala Episode anyone? All of them SLAYIN with their fits? Poor Halsin totally out of his element). He's once again welcomed into the society of the Lord Mage of Waterdeep and his peers seem to have all but forgotten he was ever a pariah. Is that what he wants? And Waterdeep has many opportunities for more adventure. A paranoid Beholder underground anyone?
Kill the Lich Queen (CLASSIC D&D). Vlaakith IS FINISHED. TIME TO SPELLJAM AND BE SPACE PIRATES YALL. Lae'zel deserves to see this through to the END.
Shadowheart goes through another journey to find out if she wants to truly embrace Selûne or maybe become another thing entirely. Selûne should reach out or Isobel and Dame Aylin would help her out. Or maybe Shadowheart is tired of being a Cleric and following a god. But change and inconsistency is something that is under Selûne's portfolio, she's often followed by those who are lost, so I think she'd find more than fitting for Shadowheart to be a cautious and weary follower of her.
Your Tav's personal stuff. The Dark Urge sounds amazing and I can't wait to do a run with them, but I think most of us got very attached to our Original Characters Do No Steal. So I'm excited to see what people come up with for their Tavs. Otessa, my Tav, doesn't know her dad was a pirate, he never told her, so I expect that his past will come bite him in the ass and she'll have to help him out of that pickle.
When the party has reached level 17, Gale has access to the Wish spell. And I really do think they'd use it to get rid of Astarion's undeath. As a DM I wouldn't let Gale simply get the spell outright, he'd have to research it. Not only that, I don't think Astarion would be totally free of undeath, some remnant of it would linger, he'd probably turn into an Elf that needs blood to survive and is forever locked out of the Call of Arvandor or something. But he'd be mortal and would be able to walk in the sun without that ring, cross bodies of water, wouldn't instadie from pointy wood objects in the chest etc. (i'm writing a little one-shot about this, should post it soon)

Sorry if this is asking for something too specific, but is there any high fantasy-themed, setting agnostic ttrpg system that I can, like, fit into the mold of a homebrew DnD campaign? I really don't want to drop this campaign that I've been running for years and have written tens of thousands of words for, but at this point the 5e system just isn't cutting it for me due to all the Problems Issues it has. Making fun encounters and areas to explore feels more and more impossible each day and it feels like I'm fighting against the current whenever I want to focus more on worldbuilding and character interaction or do something more abstract like sending PCs to the dream realm or whatever. Is there any less crunchy and combat-focused alternative thatd still let my players be clerics, barbarians, bards, etc or some equivalent?
i don't really believe in 'setting agnostic'. i think every RPG has to include some kind of implication about the setting in the basic functionalities of what verbs the characters can do. like, by including combat in an RPG, it's no longer 'setting agnostic', because some pretty big implications have been made about what kind of world these characers are going to exist in. but i digress! i know what you mean lol -- you want a high fantasy game that can be molded to the world you've already created.
fellowship is a pretty simple, classic high fantasy -- as you can imagine from the name, it draws heavily from lord of the rings. it doesn't have 'classes', though -- the playbooks are all themed around more general story rolls or fantasy peoples -- so if maintaining that is important to you it might not be for you.
venture is a game i haven't personally played or read but i've seen toted around as a pretty good rules-light game for this kind of setting and atmosphere. it's Belonging Outside Belonging, which means it's diceless and more narrative, with the mechanics hinging around a token economy (take tokens on narrative downbeats, spend them to do cool things). it does have classes.
quest is also a super-simplified take on the d&d formula which keeps d20s and class advancement while ditching more or less everything else. it's also free (at least, the digital edition), so if you're on a limited budget and don't want to put on your big skull and crossbones hat it's a pretty good pick.
whatever you end up playing, i hope you and your friends have fun :)

*taps mic* Hi, hello, yes, I need to know more about Nil. I'm love them.
Yes!! Nil is a character I made for a campaign back in like 2018 that ended up fizzling out pretty quickly but I simply could not let him go so I made him a fairly prominent npc in my homebrew campaign. Every single time he shows up in a session I have to give a content warning for his presence because I made one of my players cry as him once (it was all very fine but it felt pertinent to warn folks moving forward lol) he loves to have fun and is so, so, so mean
As a PC she was supposed to be a straight moon druid so I could dump phys stats and take all mental stats, and my friend @lateralfire had a barbarian gnome that would ride her wildshapes in combat so he could wield heavy weapons without disadvantage. Very silly mechanically immediately from the get go haha
As an npc I changed their build to be less optimised and more representative of what a complete mess they are, so they became 3 rogue 9mastermind) 2 druid (moon) 2 sorc (shadow) and what levels they took going forward would be influenced by how the party treated them - basically bad = sorc level good = druid level. This distribution of levels was specifically so Nil could have help as a bonus action from mastermind and be able to use their subtle spell metamagic to cast cure wounds while wildshaped. Again, immensely silly build that I love to death and will never actually work in bg3 lol
Oh and!! Here's art I got commissioned years ago by @lesly-oh

can you talk more about the species Blueberry is? I know you talked a little about their mouths and stuff but what about their little head nubs? (btw hope you're doing okay)
an interesting question, thank you!
when we started playing this sci-fi themed dnd-like game (it was called Scum and Vilainy I think?) our DM said that the world is based on "Endless Space 2" computer game. So we could choose any kind of species from there (but the human Empire is the one ruling over most territories of space, so being bounty hunter AND a xenos is extra tricky and dangerous but HAHA of course I wanted to choose an alien lol)
I picked Lumeris species
and to be honest I don't know anything about their biology or whatever (like what are those little antenas for?? idk)
the only info I found is about their very clan-based society (that society that Berry escaped and ran away. also bc he didn't want to get arrange married).
But me and my DM headcanoned/homebrewed some facts ourselves hahah
Like for example, I looked at pictures from the game and was like HMMM okay so most cis males have mustaches, bald heads and 4 antlets, and cis females have seaweed-like hair and 2 antlets? ok
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(that big mamma might be trans? good for her good for her!)
Of course its a very lame design thing when female characters MuSt LoOk fUcKabLe for avarge male player, but eh. I just decided to use it for my character design, so that's why Blueberry has shaved head, for example
I also added little fin ears bc I'm weak, sorry, I want cute lil ears haha
Tumblr media
some other headcanons/homebrew facts we made:
Lumeris give birth to their kids like some sharks do, instead of laying eggs
their healthy body tempriture is a little lower than human's
blood is bluieshly green
they still have little gills (idk where... probably on the sides of neck) so they can breathe under water, but not for long, bc gills are pretty reduced, bc lumeris been living on land for too long now. A trained lumeris probably could stay underwater for 20-30 minutes? Blueberry's maximum is 10-15 minutes
there are lumeris species that are like angler fish - their antenas are able to glow
we decided lumeris have one dick, not two XD
thats it, idk what else X) I never played the game itself lol

not sure if youve said it before, but what platforms do you think you'll be releasing the susan taxpayer game on?? I love her so much lol
PC! I can't really release it on anything else, haha, unless you do some homebrew work! It's gonna be a completely free download cuz it's based off of a Mario Bros. fangame engine (SMBX) with heavily modified community-made plugins, so it wouldn't feel right selling it. I'm glad you like her tho!!! and hopefully you'll get to enjoy her for free very soon :D

Is there any way to play Pokémon coloseum and get the ribbons from it WITHOUT needing to buy the actual console and game from it? I really badly want to do a ribbon challenge but the financial barrier for the ones on this game are way too high
WELLLLLLLL there are ways to (cough) do it with emulation or a hacked wii (COUGH)
if you have a hacked original wii with the gamecube ports on the side, all you would need is to run colo or xd off of nintendont with a USB stick (it's an installable homebrew app), make sure in nintendont's settings the game is set to use the native controllers instead of emulating them, and then purchase a gamecube -> GBA link cable which as far as i know are still pretty cheap, especially third party ones. then you can trade between those games and the GBA games like normal. of course this requires you to uh, go through the process of hacking your wii, which also may require you to buy a cheap ass SD card adapter if you don't have a computer that is able to read old big SD cards. but even if you had to buy a wii for all this i am pretty sure all of those four things combined (wii/cable/adapter/usb) are less of a price barrier than colo/xd which are insanely expensive for no fucking reason my god. for what it's worth i own authentic copies of colo/xd, but even i play it off my wii's nintendont sometimes, it's really convenient LOL
alternatively you could do this fully with PC emulation, just "trade" your pokemon into your colo or xd save with pkhex - you can literally open your colo save and your GBA save in two separate pkhex windows and drag and drop, the pokemon's data will be identical as if you had traded pokemon. if you're starting the challenge on physical gen 3 carts you'll need a way to back up the save files to do this in pkhex though - assuming you already own an original ds or ds lite, the cheapest way to do this is buy a ds flashcart/r4 and install a gba save file manager onto it and use that with the gba slot on the ds. there's also like, specially made devices for that purpose but they're usually a lot more expensive lol. if you do all of this on emulation up to gen 4 or 5 though, you could just use the dns exploit to trade your mons to an actual gen 4/5 cart ez with wifi
sorry for the really long ass answer i just wanted to give you the most options possible. sdfksfdl

Mmmm I'm bored and it's almost 6 am and I cannot sleep.
I'm gonna assign the Empires SMP s2 cast DnD classes for the fun of it.
Joel: He's a Sorcerer for sure, but idk if wild magic or blue draconic bloodline is more fitting. On one hand, he dipped into a magic fountain to become a God which is very wild magic leaning. On the other hand, blue dragon ancestry would give an obvious affinity to lightning, and an excuse for his obsession with gold and the common teal/blue themes of his Stratos builds. You also can get wings. Idk, I like both a lot here.
Fwhip: Have you seen those funky Redstone signs? This little guy is an artificer all the way. After he made that sick mace? I'm gonna say he'd run the battle smith archetype. Idk funny little goblin tinkerer is just fun to me.
Jimmy: Fighter, gunslinger archetype. He's a cowboy, look at him. What else could he possibly be? I know he doesn't have a gun (yet) but I think he deserves it with all the gunpowder. He's also Just Some Guy and sadly fighter is the most Just Some Guy class there is.
Pixlriffs: The archivist artificer subclass was literally made for this man. Tinkering around with insane redstone, litematica, the obsession with the past and knowing things he shouldn't necessarily know, like it's all there. It's perfect for him. I love him.
Sausage: Oath of Devotion paladin, for sure. He's the protector of Sanctuary, it's his duty to protect his friends and his people, to stay true to them no matter what. He will protect his people and those he cares about. Also you literally get access to the spell Sanctuary as part of the extended spell list. Come on.
Scott: Wild magic Sorcerer. If a wizard gives you a glass eye that is SO going to have random magical consequences, and with how often Owen goes between human and Llama I wouldn't be shocked if it was related. They're also charisma casters and look at him. Look at him.
Joey: Gunslinger fighter again but this time with the pirate background specifically. He literally has a gun. What else could he be?
Oli: The man is literally a college of glamor bard. Like this isn't even a question. Come on now.
False: Oh an artificer all the way, look at the steampunk aesthetic going on here. I wanna give her artillerist because she definitely seems like the type to develop a flamethrower, but I think alchemist fits her lore (the whole amnesia potions thing) a bit better. Another one I'm a little torn on.
Gem: What else could she be but a light cleric? She is the princess of the sun and she started a church for the sun. Light cleric. Boom.
Katherine: Definitely barbarian, but the subclass isn't clear. I might need to homebrew a monster hunter subclass here because while that would normally be a ranger thing I guess, this isn't the first time I've wanted to build a monster hunter with a big sword or big axe. For now, I'll say wolf totem warrior.
Shelby: Wild magic Sorcerer with really bad luck who decided to multiclass into the actual alchemist class on the side, but not enough to pick an archetype. Her spells go wrong all the time, often on accident, she doesn't learn from a book, she's having a great time. Sorry you got polymorphed into a frog lol.
Lizzie: Another wild magic sorcerer except she stopped trying after she turned herself into a cat and decided to instead become an arcane trickster rogue. She is not a cat, she prommy. She totally will not steal from you the moment you aren't looking. She enchanted her mask to make her look human. She is human. Worry more about your chests. Don't ask about the amethyst. She has expertise in deception.

I was wondering, who are all of Amaryllis's partners?
In her DnD campaign, she has 5!
Percival - 6'2" Human (1/4th elf), homebrew swordsman, and was initially an antagonist in the main story! He and Amaryllis had an enemies to friends to lovers slow burn. He has a lot of trust issues for very valid reasons and focused most of his life on revenge until recently. Amaryllis was the first person he ever trusted and his only regret in life was betraying her for revenge (he's since made up for this by sacrificing his hand to save her life). He's also agender!
Yulani - a 5'6" (ex-human) Elan transmasc NB fighter, and he's full of anxiety. He worked as an archivist for his organization for like 300 years just to get out of social interaction lol Amaryllis thought he was adorable and reminded her of a rabbit, and Yulani was initially scared of her until they got to know each other
Eclipse - a 5'7" high elf Blightmaid (the evil version of Brightmaid, which is what Amaryllis is- he was blessed in the womb by Nightmare, and she was blessed by a Unicorn) sorcerer, and is very horny for sex and violence. He's pretty flamboyant and flirty and loves seeing Amaryllis fighting and killing enemies in battle. He also likes flirting with Yulani. He's genderfluid!
Chabat - 6'2" Human knight of the Sand, I think he's some kinda fighter? He's a little awkward and stoic and he initially met Amaryllis when he was assigned to guard her in a city full of people who hated all non-humans. She had a crush on him first, but he reciprocated after meeting her in a context outside of being her guard. He got really pissed at all the fey racism she had to experience, and generally enjoys defending the weak
Brargridoth - he's a Prince of the Hells! His father is the King. Brargridoth is a mix of celestial, fiend, and devil due to his weird birth, and Amaryllis earned the right to date him after fighting through the ranks of his soldiers until she fought him and impressed him with her strength. Brargridoth goes by he/him but his concept of gender is extremely alien bc he's from the hells. He's also 12ft
Thanks for asking!!

For a dnd ask, what was your first homebrewed enemy? Im presuming you’ve done at least one before. I once made a giant boulder crab that was stupid and nearly wrecked my super low level party.
some shitty undead that were super boring lol let me see if i can find the statblock. i think they were just like. zombies with 20 strength
oh yea here we go... made half a decade ago

HI, I saw the ask about papas in fantasy books and I found myself thinking...how would every papa react to seeing a s/o who really likes rpg and is trying to explain how the d&d system works or is running a session for example . I have very bad english, this is not my first language, sorry :(
anon don't worry your english is great!! i'd be happy to fulfill this request for you :)
PAPAS W/A D&D OBSESSED S/O
PAPA NIHIL: is possibly the most confused out of all of them but will smile and nod and listen as best he can! i think he would appreciate the storytelling but there's just Too Much stuff to keep track of for him. but he would be very curious about like, custom homebrewed (i think that's the term for it) campaigns. ("could you make one about lucifer? would that be possible?")
PAPA I: admires your enthusiasm! though he doesn't know as much about D&D specifically, he's enjoyed fantasy as a genre since he was a child, growing up with the hobbit and lord of the rings. he's an incredibly patient man, having no problem asking questions about things he may not understand, and is always happy to indulge in your interests. though he may not enjoy playing D&D as much as he'd enjoy writing campaigns, he would be honored to play with you regardless!!
PAPA II: he's never been as into fantasy as his older brother, so initially while he's not dismissive, you can tell he's not super interested by the concept. that is until, you get into the battle and RPG elements. holy shit, you've never seen him be this excited about anything ever??? you convince him (more like he convinces you) to join your next campaign, and he comes up with his own character and everything! he likes the math and the development of characters a lot and after you finish the session for the day, he tells you not to tell terzo about this because, in his words, he'd be crucified. you're just happy to share D&D with him
PAPA III: is definitely a little overwhelmed and confused by the whole idea, but he's the kind of person to always try something at least once to see if he likes it! especially considering it's so important to you. like primo, he loves how happy you get just talking about it, so of course after you explain everything, he'd love to join your campaign if you ask! you just... might need to take things a little slower with him, what with his short as fuck attention span LOL. i think he'd make playing D&D a hoot, honestly. he'd be flirting with all the characters (and you)
PAPA IV/COPIA: dude. this guy fucking LOVES D&D are you shitting me??? you don't have to explain jackshit to him because he actually might know more than you. he's played it since he was a teenager!! when he finds out you like it as well, you don't think he's ever been more ecstatic - not many others in the church were ever as enthusiastic about it as he was. he jokes that you two are like a fantasy-loving match made in heaven :)

Okay I’m too shy and awkward to actually write this as not-nonny but still, after I read your lore post, wanted to nerd out hehe
First, you used to paint minis??? That’s so cool!!I used to watch a lot of videos when I first got into DnD and how people made the maps/dungeons and all that good stuff. I’ve always been fascinated by dioramas so when I found the fantasy version of those I was ecstatic to say the least hehe I don’t really have the chance to play DnD as I don’t have people who are interested, but I’ve been enjoying some solo journaling TTRPG lately and it’s been really fun! (Apawthecaria is my fave and I suggest check it out if you were interested in Wanderhome)
Second, as a fellow artist I really relate to the need of always make something and it’s inspiring to see others make their own stuff, not matter the form! As somebody who struggles with mental health as well, make art, read ifs and get inspired by others creators has helped me a lot through the years.
I’m really sorry to hear about your chronic disease but, I really hope that things will get a little better and more manageable, at least a bit, with time 💕
Going back to your if, I’m really curious about the Void and what inspired you for the concept of it? Also, I can’t wait for the descriptions of monsters and fight scenes in case we’ll get some of those ✨
Thank you so much for writing an ask! I can tell you have a lot of passion here :3
I made dioramas for my homebrew dnd setting when I was a teen, I made a sculpting material from salt, flour, water and then sculpted on canvas boards and painted it with acrylics when it dried. I want to make more elaborate ones once I have the space to!
It's difficult to find a group to play with, I've only had two groups, one in person that fell apart, and now my fiance and I have a bunch of amazing online buddies that we play with over discord. I actually met my bff on tiktok when I was on there after I made a dragonage video and we bonded lmao, he's a great buddy. I hope you'll be able to find some people to play with.
Also thank you for the rec, I will definitely check it out!! The only solo journaling game I was planning on playing was thousand year old vampire.
I really appreciate your kind words, I'm definitely a lot better off than I was a year ago, and things are starting to get even better for me physically and mentally.
I absolutely talking to fellow artists, and please send me more asks, or if you ever feel up to it, you can message me on here to nerd out. I love talking to people and hearing about projects and stuff. That also goes for anyone who feels like making a buddy online, I love making friends lol.
And the void was inspired by the Weave in the forgotten realms dnd and also the Warp in warhammer with my own little world separation/dimension stuff that I was thinking about for my old dnd homebrew!

DEAD FRIEND FOREVER... but is DND
So... The party of adventurers reaches a small town where in the local swamps there's being tales of an "unknown beast" roamming around and killing anyone whom dares to enter the swamp. The party has being called to kill such beast but, before they do so, they have to gather information. That's how they slowly learn that this "beast" appeared after the disappearence of a local. That's how the party gets to meet "the friend group".
Obviously, this quest has to be played by people that haven't watched dff series, because now it turns into a game of trust: the players will slowly befriend the group, all eight of them. When the time comes, "the friend group" and the party will enter the swamp to "hunt the beast".
Depending on how roleplay has gone between the players and "the friend group" during the investigation period, there would be two options when the final battle arrives: fight besides "the friend group" or fight besides "the beast". The number of people on each side will also change, again, depending on roleplay.
Basically I'm switching the whole "hallucinations" of the series for an actual investigation plot because the party has absolutely no knowledge of what happend to the local when they first start investigating, so the ones that on "the beast" 's side from the beginning don't really need to get the truth out of them like they do on the series. Although I could keep some type of poisoning as a side plot because obviously the ones that are definetly joinning "the beast" in the final battle cannot risk not having an advantage in case the party doesn't join their side.
And for "the beast"... I still need to flesh it out because in these case I really want Non to be a full monster.
Either I have to find an already made stats block from another monster or I'll have to homebrew it but I want it to be like a "swampy", "vegetation" type of Fiddlesticks, the lol champion.

Hm ok what's your favorite or a really cool worlbuilding thing you've done? For any fandom or original or even an unimplemented idea
Hmm well at least in the past decade, my big worldbuilding projects have mostly come down to three-ish stories: Other Side of the Gun, Adventures of Gæilo and Ethon, and Just Desserts
OSG was an Invader ZiM fancomic concept I started around 2013 to justify every single Irken headcanon I ever came up with lol - I never finished it, or even really started it, but I put a lot of time and energy into its roughs back in the day :)
Tumblr media
^A stick figure recap of Ch. 1, inspired by - what else - the Vargas stick figure recaps lol
One that you can see over here is all the work I did for my DnD campaign, AGE! (Though its sideblog hasn't been updated in a while haha - the AGE tag over here works just as well) I basically homebrewed a pantheon and had an absolute blast designing all the gods and their forms before they became gods and even things like architectural differences in their churches and the BBEG and his motivations and just ah <3 Such a fun project :D

It also laid the groundwork for things like Pokemon Homestyle, specifically all my papercrafts! You can really see how I leveled up haha
And my latest has been Just Desserts! Even with less time under its belt, it's still pretty expansive, as evidenced by my icon and theme and the backlog lol, and it's the one I have the most AUs of! (Though OSG does come close actually haha) There are still some thorny details I'm trying to iron out, especially to do with the magic system, but all the characters and creatures and the fact that I made my own fighting minigame, ah, pleased! I've never been so happy with a sona before Charm! ♥ From the very beginning it's been so fun to work on and I still want to improve!

#Long post#There have been others of course - things like BunBonBop and TMatM and quite a handful of original species lol#I was also involved in an IZRP that got very in depth which is where Bar comes from actually!#As well as my brief stint into being a TGWDLM askblog lol soz to everyone over there ouq#And little stories like Karera no Kotogara and Yanderapy but those mostly set in cartoon-reality y'know?#No magic or sci fi there haha#Man looking back through the OSG stuff kinda makes me wanna unstore Ch. 0 - I've grown a lot since then!#To the point where it almost doesn't feel ''mine'' anymore haha - it has been almost ten years! Maybe to celebrate its anniversary :)#Also yeah if you look hard enough I've been in love with and inspired by Vargas for as long as I've known about it haha#AGE was so much fun <3 I would like to get back to it someday but picking back up after so long is hard!#I still hold all of them fondly of course ♥ Mar especially since they were the tipping point for me loving spiders :D#It's hard to believe Just Desserts is already four years deep! It still feels so new to me haha#I know I big up Charm and her design a lot lol but for me it really is exactly what I want <3 It's my perfect :)#I still really want to get into 3D modeling to make her as I originally envisioned her!#If I had the funds I'd absolutely commission someone but tbh I don't know many names on that side of art haha#I've also heard about people who give advice/brainstorming sessions for magic systems and I've been intrigued ever since :0#I'd love to sit down with someone and hash out Exactly how their magic works! It feels like it just needs a few more pushes!#Then again that's what I said about the TVAU outfits too haha ♪ Maybe it would all fall into place!#To the base question tho: I never know how to qualify ''implemented'' - does just putting it out there as a concept count?#Writing a story? Making a comic? A series? Polished? Completed?? Where's the line haha#I'm always so full of ideas but focusing on anything long enough to make it ''pretty'' is so hard for me still#I just keep creating never stopping haha

OC + Random Associations
(tagged by @cannibalisticskittles, tyvm!!!!! you didn't specify which oc but I'm assuming you mean for bg3 so you're getting the murder angel (◡ ‿ ◡ ✿))
Tumblr media
🗡 animal - definitely an ermine. (animal predation/death cw in linked image) just because they're small and adorable doesn't mean they're not close cousins of the wolverine.
🗡 colors - grey, silver, gold, white. some red, though I try to avoid too much of it in order to maintain a contrast with orin.
🗡 month - january or february. cold, quiet, the dead of winter.
🗡 songs - well of course it's obviously the dismemberment song. (runners up are i like the way you die and kill of the night.)
🗡 number - oh fuck i have no idea lmao. 7? that's the first thing that popped into my head, but there's a nonzero possibility that that's just because it sort of vaguely rhymes
🗡 plants - angel's trumpet. one of the many, many, many effects of this plant family (which also includes sacred datura) is photophobia/photosensitivity, which I didn't know until I went to get a picture of it, but that's too perfect.
🗡 scents - jasmine and lye - too clean. the dry, antiseptic smell of a doctor's hands. a faint undercurrent of rust.
🗡 gemstone - white opal.
🗡 time of day - the first glimmer of dawn.
🗡 season - winter.
🗡 places - culverts, caverns, buried ruins, the secret compounds of cults and nobles. anywhere underground.
🗡 food - i mean. [soos voice] i ate a man alive tonight- (she does also favor white eel sashimi. it's only a little bit poisonous. don't worry about it)
🗡 drink - some kind of white wine? (i don't know anything about wine. i want to say a sweet wine, but that's just because i won't drink anything less sweet than manischewitz, which is basically grenadine left out in the sun a little too long.)
🗡 element - earth, but the kind of earth that's jagged stone and falling stalactites and bottomless caverns, not the warm alive kind of earth.
🗡 seasoning - cardamom, black pepper, ginger, ghost pepper.
🗡 sky - the weird unlight of a really snowy night.
🗡 weather - that specific kind of featureless gray day where time doesn't seem to change at all because the light never shifts.
🗡 magical power - technically she's a warlock, but I've homebrewed her into a glass cannon melee fighter and the only spell I ever actually use is misty step lol.
🗡 weapons - a cleaver in her main hand and a bonesaw in her offhand. failing that, sharpened teeth and nails.
🗡 sweets - 100% cocoa dark chocolate.
🗡 method of travel - she strikes me as a berline kind of gal. she's small, delicate, and sun-sensitive - not really meant for the sort of traipsing-around-outdoors-in-daytime adventure that gets foisted onto her! (also, sidenote: where are all the horses? shadowheart lampshades us not having any, but seriously, why are the only domestic animals we see cows/rothe, dogs, cats, and one (1) chicken (before baby boy eats it lol)? where are the rest of the livestock? where are the beasts of burden? hello?? *hammering on adam smith's window with a stick* ANSWER ME LARIAN-)
🗡 art style - francisco goya, but specifically the early 19th century/Black Paintings era. my man was going Through it
🗡 fear - pointlessness/purposelessness. she has to be what she was made for, because if she's not, what is she?
🗡 mythological creature - the bann sidhe/banshee.
🗡 stationery item - this pen set.
🗡 3 emojis - well i had already picked 🗡 as my bullet point before getting here, so: 🪚🩸🫀 (<- i was today years old when i learned there's an anatomical heart emoji now?! we live in the future)
🗡 celestial body - neutron star
aaaand I will tag @diantha with Amara, @megparsec with Ellara, @curlyparmesan with Flit, and @ballofbitter with Eos (but of course no pressure!!!!) :D

but specifically regarding ttrpgs in general or d&d in specific (your choice which)
i went dnd with my answers because i have dnd on the brain at the moment
i wouldn't call this broadly unpopular but in relation to the social circles we tend to walk in online: i think dnd 5e is broadly a good game!! the issues i have with it are mostly ideological ones, and there's some vestigial crud i don't think works, but i don't agree with the idea that anyone who is having fun with it is either 1) warping the game via homebrewing to such a frankensteinish extent that they're basically playing another game or 2) trapped in the matrix tricking themselves into thinking they're having fun.
in relation to broader dnd fan circles, i have a few random thoughts on the game
i fucking love playing a monk. people in dnd circles hate on the monk's mechanics so much, call it the worst class constantly, etc. maybe i'm just nuts but i've played every class and monk is in my top two easily. monk also has, outside of warlock, some of the most interesting narrative level-up mechanics. i really like the story beats that the last leveling tier of monk can tease out.
outside of ideological issues (the way monks, barbarians, orcs, etc are written really fucking sucks) my two biggest issues with dnd as a system are 1) the system doesn't do a good job laying out what it means to fail a check (or even really clearly establish when a check should be made), and 2) the responsibility of onboarding new players is foisted onto dms without a lot of support. i've read and played a lot of systems that incorporate some aspect of randomness and failure, and i think dnd is one of the weakest when it comes to articulating what it means to fail a roll. failed rolls often don't do much to move the story forward as the game is written, even stuff surrounding partial successes. and i just don't think 'nothing happens' should ever really be a consequence of rolling poorly; if it is, you should probably just not call for a roll. some of this is down to DM discretion but i don't think it should be! 'even a failed roll should lead to something interesting happening' shouldn't be optional IMO.
a lot of dnd players who complain about the classes being poorly balanced just don't like dnd i think and should probably play another system that either isn't combat-heavy or that just does combat differently? i don't think the classes being optimally balanced for ~5 encounters per long rest is actually that out of pocket personally. '5 encounters' =/= '5 combats' (even if wizards thinks this is the same thing LOL), there are a wide variety of ways to interestingly solve problems and expend resources outside of combat, and even then what constitutes a 'dungeon' does not have to literally mean going into a cave and fighting basilisks. a casino is a dungeon. a train is a dungeon. etc etc. even if you do want to run a lot of combat... this is only a problem if you don't like dnd combat! if you like dnd combat and are playing good dnd combat, this ceases to be an issue IMO. i think the bigger problem is just that dnd is painted as a catchall system and a lot of people playing dnd should be playing something else. dnd is balanced fine for what dnd is designed to do
i think a lot of broad-scale critiques of dnd culture (not all!) and how it's played are less so critiques of dnd than they are critiques of people. at least 50 million people play dnd. if 50 million people played uhhhh i dunno, dungeon world, or vampire the masquerade, or anything really, we would be hearing the same stuff about how dungeon world players are unbearable, because that's kinda just what happens when any subculture is that large.
"minmaxers" are unfairly demonized in some dnd circles. minmaxing rules
