Do you, or anyone actually, know where/when the '-bowl' sufix started being used in Fandom? Because I can't find any kind of origin, and surprisingly Fanlore doesn't have a article about it (as far as I checked maybe I didn't search well?). I just found and know that it's used for kinda old and relatively new fandoms, thanks to a two-year-old Reddit post.

For anyone who doesn't get/know about the '-bowl' sufix: is basically an All × One thing. For example, if you encounter 'Dekubowl' this means that Deku, the character, is shipped with everyone or that at least everyone else have a crush with Deku.

I can only think of the 'Super Bowl' (just as one comment in that Reddit post suggest) for its origin, but when we talk about Fandom culture we never know. It could have originated from anything no-related to the Super Bowl, LOL.

Ooh, interesting. I've never heard of this in my life, and I have no idea what a -bowl suffix is supposed to mean, even if I guess it has to do with the super bowl.

It's not surprising Fanlore doesn't have this if it's coming from BNHA or somewhere similar. Fanlore is fantastic on the history of Western "Media Fandom", zines, K/S, etc. It's much weaker in areas that OTW early adopters haven't spent as much time in.

You should write the -bowl article yourself!

I went into AO3's tag search and looked for 'bowl'. I found 1311 tags, 90 of them canonicals.

I'm seeing a ton of references to the Super Bowl, dust bowl AUs, pet play with pet food bowls, Dream in the fishbowl, unending uses like "I'm crying into my bowl of cereal as I write this", "bowl of honey nut feelios", "bowl of pornflakes", "me shaking the food bowl of sbi wilbur-centric angst: come get y'all's juice", etc., and plenty of references to YOI katusdon bowls. Lots of fandoms and episodes have 'bowl' in their titles.

Zeroing in on more related things, I'm seeing BNHA over and over and not much else...

EXCEPT!

Fruit bowls!

I see scattered references to "let's add him into that whole fruit bowl" and "the whole fruit bowl is here" and so on. Some of them are crack fic where everyone is a banana, but a lot of them seem to be a metaphor for "everything together".

Okay, I just spent far too much time trying to categorize tags. Out of the 'bowl' ones, about a third appear to be this kind of sense (counting by number of tags, not number of works).

Game of Thrones has a bunch, but they refer (as far as I know) to which characters will hypothetically kill each other and emerge victorious, not to group shipping.

Some tags I found, like 'edelbowl' sounded more like a group ship than an X/everyone. I also found a scattering of tags that were like 'all of them in a bowl together', which is probably related.

But mainly, what I found is that this is from BNHA and it's recent.

The other fandoms where I found it were:

Demon Slayer, Dr. STONE, Naruto, South Park, Fire Emblem, Genshin, HP, Lego Ninjago, My Next Life as a Villainess, She-Ra, Teen Wolf, Tower of God, VLD, A3! (Video Game), Assassination Classroom, Avatar, Batman, Black Clover - Tabata Yuki, Bleach, Blue Lock (Manga), BTS, Bungou Stray Dogs , Dangan Ronpa, Danny Phantom, Detective Conan, Dragon Age, Durarara!!, Fate/Grand Order, How to Train Your Dragon, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Kaiju No. 8 (Manga), LEGO Monkie Kid, Osomatsu-san, Ouran High School Host Club, Percy Jackson, SK8 the Infinity, Soul Eater, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, Tokyo Revengers, Virtual Streamer Animated Characters, Warcraft, Xenoblade Chronicles 2

That's giving me a very distinctive picture of a fan who's probably in their 20s or 30s, mostly like anime and some video games, and is not the type that edits Fanlore.

There's nothing actually old here: it's recent anime and stuff that is still a megafandom, like Naruto.

I'm seeing a scattering of 'dekubowl' from 2017 and then other character tags taking off in like 2019. This is definitely a recent trend in terminology, at least on AO3.

This is going to sound weird, but do you have any tips on how to gain traction as a fanfic writer? I've been trying for years and I get next to no interaction on my writing. I know I shouldn't care because I should be writing for myself, but it's still frustrating to see other writers get thousands of notes, and reblogs and asks praising their fics and I get maybe 20 likes. I've been looking into discord fandom groups but a lot of them don't allow people over 30, and I don't do well with busy groups anyway. I try to be active on my blog, and interact with other people and make myself approachable, but I'm getting so incredibly tired of talking to an empty space. Sorry, I think I ended up venting instead >_<

WARNING: DISCOURSE AHEAD

Omg hello my love!! First of all, I'm so sorry you feel this way! I have so many conflicting thoughts on this, let me try to get them in order for you!!

I guess, let me first start with some tips that I think actually answer your question, and then I'll just monologue about the ways I've been thinking about fandom recently, and you can skip that part if you wanna!

Part 1: Actual Thoughts on Your Question (lol)

I am possibly not in the best position to ask about this because I mostly happened to be in the right place at the right time, publishing my fics in the early part of the pandemic when people were more actively engaging in the fandom. But in my experience, outside of discord groups, other good ways to meet people and get your work out there are joining zines & collabs.

I'm not completely up-to-date with what the accounts are now that track these things, but there are several tumblrs and twitter accounts like BNHA Zines that exist to retweet & publicize zine posts. Look for zines that are in the interest check & application stages!! You can apply during the application phase and the good thing is that most zines will ask for an application piece and will judge you on your work rather than your follower count!!

Collabs are usually even easier because many of them are just open to whoever wants to join! I've only participated in server collabs but I've seen several posts cross my dash that are open to anyone. I'd probably monitor the collaboration and x reader tags on tumblr and join in on anything that looks fun!!

Another thing that I've noticed people do a lot is self-reblog their fics a couple times just to maximize their circulation. I've seen a lot of moots trying to make sure they hit good hours for different time zones and different days of the week to ensure their followers are at least aware that they've posted something if they don't have notifs on (I don't have notifs on so I'm grateful for these because otherwise I miss a lot!!). Even I have srb'd a time or two if I'm particularly proud of something lol.

And I think, if I also wanted to be a shark about things, I would try to get in on the ground floor of a fandom in its early stages!! For example, the second season of JJK is coming out soon and it's sure to bring a wave of new readers to the JJK fandom, especially for the characters like Gojo and Getou who look like they're gonna be the main focus of the season.

I think if you wanted to be extra sharp about things, you might time a fic release with some of the first couple episodes of a new season where you can be sure more people than usual will be poking around in the tags!! And if your fic is published during the early stages of a fandom, it's going to have more eyes on it overall than a fic published towards the conclusion of the series.

Anyway this is what I could think of. I hope this advice is practical and useful!! Now onto me blathering.

Part 2: Resisting Influencer Culture in Fandom Spaces

This part might be kind of controversial. I want to first acknowledge how easy it is for me to think and say these sorts of things when I'm already more than pleased with the amount of engagement I get. And I want to recognize that it is so, so deeply human to want recognition, community, and support for the things that we write.

I think it is so completely natural that you want interaction on your writing. All of us totally do, otherwise we wouldn't be publishing it publicly. If our work was truly, singularly for us and us alone, we'd keep it in the drafts lol. We put it out there hoping for praise and appreciation and connection, and in my opinion there is no shame in that.

So, admission time: I also definitely compare myself to other writers, and I have several times thought about transitioning more towards the type of content that drives higher note counts on tumblr: smuttier one-shots usually under 10k! I can see a huge difference in terms of just my own work on how my one-shots typically do in comparison to chaptered fics. And I definitely see how fast smutty imagines shoot up there in terms of note count.

But I was listening to a podcast episode recently on trying to sort of transition away from a metrics-focused approach to fandom. In the podcast, they talk about how in trying to legitimize fanfic as a literary mechanism, we've also sort of accidentally subjected it to our capitalist-influencer-mindset, where we see fic as more legitimate the more kudos it gets or the more followers it nets you, because in traditional influencer spaces, those followers are potential capital.

I'm definitely not saying you or I see people as potential revenue streams, but I think probably neither of us are immune to the culture at large, and we both probably carry some of internalized sense of our own value based on metrics, reach, and influence. And that sucks!!!!

Fandom, of all things, is supposed to be a specifically anti-capitalist space. We can't make money off of fanfic or fanart (legally, anyway lol), and we're all not the owners of the franchises either so none of our takes are necessarily more "valid" or weightier than others!! We're all supposed to just be trading stories around a campfire with no thought to their literary merit or monetary value. We're just supposed to enjoy the stories.

So, I don't know what the right answer is about how to try to resist the influences of our capitalist culture at large; I'm hoping someone smarter than me will tell me. But I do know that in fanfic, the value of your story can absolutely never be determined by how much engagement you get. Because fandom is not about metrics, and there is no inherent value in metrics. There is only the fun you had creating the story, and the depth of the connection you made with someone over it--even if that's just one other person.

And so I personally am at least trying to resist the lure of transitioning to smutty one-shots even though I think a lot of people would like that. Because what I like doing is writing my little 30k multi-chaps; those are my fave kinds of stories to tell, I'm not letting my metrics tell me what I should be writing.

I hope, at the very least, you know that your worth and the value of your story is not defined by how many other people have read it. And if you ever wanna chat more about this let me know, I'm still figuring this all out myself and could use friends to explore it with!!

tdbk camp half blood au?

well you’re in luck anon there’s a whole pjo x bnha zine i was a part of featuring my todo and baku focused pieces. anyhow i may post said pieces sometime if only to feature @swissyarts’s fantastic illustration (!) but since they can be read in tandem have a quick bonus scene set after them ig.

(narrator voice) the story until now: baku is camp half blood and a very bitter son of aphrodite (lol), todo is camp jupiter and a very vengeful son of pluto (endeavour) as well as a neptune legacy (rei was a neptune kid). todo is praetor, follows a prophecy to chb, fakes being greek for a while as he learns abt the impending titan war, the league attacks (shigaraki et co = luke et co), todo takes the escaping CHB crew to camp jupiter, big fight ensues, bakugou is kidnapped (lol). on bakugou’s side of things he’s held by the league and then picked up/rescued by miruko on a hunt for hawks, then after a brief road trip fucks off to join the final battle where he intervenes to save todoroki after the latter pulls a big heroic sacrifice moment. then they kick kronos’ ass alongside midoriya and whatnot. tldr post battle, aphrodite kid baku and pluto kid shouto ok let’s get into it

if he lingers for a minute around deku and his groupies, it’s only because if the self-sacrificing idiot drops dead now katsuki is descending into tartarus himself to kill him so good he never reaches elysium. deku, though, meets his eyes over the crushing hug uraraka is strangling him with, and there’s transparent exhaustion beneath the relief and joy and gratitude but nothing alarming- nothing that screams suppressed life-threatening injury rather than deku-typical self-destruction. deku’s stupid green saucers go big with emotion when he locks onto katsuki’s gaze, and katsuki grimaces because the last thing he wants to do after everything that’s gone down is drown in the effusive hysterics of deku and his posse, even though deku’s probably marginally within his rights to freak out since they haven’t spoken since he got yanked by the league. years of working together at camp and months of fighting a war that’s bigger than them have taken them beyond their old routine, though, because deku doesn’t shout him out enthusiastically, just nods his way quickly with a measure of understanding, expression slackening into a more subdued sort of thing with visible restraint. it means talk later, but katsuki can handle that, nowadays. he nods back, doesn’t bother too hard with posturing. it’s good to see everyone intact, even deku, deranged martyr that he is. when they have that talk katsuki is going to chew his ass out for going on some stupid suicide mission the moment his back is turned.

kirishima he’s already checked in on in the makeshift hospital the apollo kids have set up for the less seriously injured, and he’s doing fine, mostly drowsy from the drugs- if he’d been alone katsuki might have coincidentally wound up loitering around the tents until he fell asleep, but the other idiots are all camped out around him as is, so there’s no need. he’ll check back in later.

no, as it is he’s confirmed the usual suspects aren’t six feet under and laid eyes on everybody from camp whose name he actually knows, so there’s no putting it off- he has to go pay his dues to his aberration of a mother.

there’s no one around the altars, which is great, given that he wouldn’t be caught dead actually thanking the old witch for anything, but it’s a severe blow to his pride anyways. her shrine is so fucking gaudy, too, all hearts and glitter. why the fuck he had to be stuck with the worst godly parent in existence he doesn’t know- ares was right there. hell, ares and aphrodite are regular mythological fuckbuddies- in another life he could at least have gone 50/50, but no- that would have been too easy. sure, deku gets to be zeus’ chosen successor, but katsuki gets to have a godly parent who cares more about her milf status than teaching her offspring how to kick ass.

unceremoniously, he dumps what meagre scraps of food he’d held onto from the drive up to new york onto the altar, watches them shrivel as the flames burn hot and iridescent. there. job done. protocol says he should be thanking her aloud, but considering this is the one useful thing she’s done for him in the last fuck knows how long she better be able to know what this is for without his saying so.

of course, his mother has never been especially interested in playing fair or reasonable; he’s barely stepped back to brush sooty palms negligently against his t-shirt when her voice comes ringing shrilly from behind him.

“oh, absolutely not. you think some flat coke and a couple of chips is a worthy offering to your mother?”

“isn’t it the thought that counts?” katsuki snaps, turning irately to find the HBIC herself arms crossed and hip cocked where she’s faux casually leaning against the nearest pillar, hair billowing despite the lack of breeze. it’s adding insult to injury that aphrodite always chooses to present herself like his clone when she’s in a one on one with him- just to rub in that she’s cursed him to look like a fucking bishōnen if he doesn’t take pains to spoil the picture.

“first of all, diet coke’s better for your health and your figure,” aphrodite declares, wrinkling her nose, “and for the favor i did you? you ought to be delivering a gourmet meal.”

“i didn’t ask you to do shit! how is it on me that you stuck your nose into my business?”

“oh, so shouto todoroki’s your business?” aphrodite crows, like the she-devil she is. katsuki bristles violently.

“stop insinuating weird shit! i mean the fact the asshole was dying mid-combat!”

“well, exactly,” aphrodite sniffs, quirking a brow. “i intervened to spare you the distress of the loss. young love, and all that.”

“you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, you old pervert! i bet you just saved his dumbass because you thought he was cute or some shit!”

“hey, watch your damn mouth!” aphrodite snaps, losing the sultry pose for a second before she composes herself. “the boy is cute, i’ll give you that, but it takes more than a pretty face to get me to meddle in your messes. i learnt my lesson the first time around with helen.”

considering the amount of love-related violence that’s plagued humanity in the interim, katsuki highly fucking doubts that, but he curbs his snappy retort in the hopes that less confrontation will bore her faster. the longer he lets this go on for the more likely she is to say some stupid shit that’ll scar him for life.

“‘s not like you even healed him or anything- why’d you make me do that shit myself?”

“well, i had to make sure you could still use charmspeak, considering you refuse to use it,” aphrodite retorts, peevish. “and, of course, it’s a lot more romantic if you’re the one who wakes him up, you know.”

“for the love of zeus, there was nothing romantic about it! he spat poison all over my shoes!”

“really, katsuki, you have so much potential- you’re a natural at charmspeak, you know, you could really achieve something if you just tried a little. and you’re very promising face-wise, if you’d stop with the grimacing. your waist to hip ratio-“

“would you drop it already?!”

“ugh,” aphrodite huffs, releasing her thoughtful grip on his hair, which had gone alarmingly well-behaved under her touch. “i suppose i should console myself with the fact you at least have some sense of style.”

“don’t you have better shit to do than stand here trying to pull a disney channel original makeover moment on me?” katsuki gripes, tussling his hair protectively. aphrodite pouts in a put-upon fashion.

“i think you could still grow out of this narrow-mindedness, you know. it would serve you well.”

“huh?”

“for example, if you weren’t so blinded by bias, you might have noticed there’s a method to my madness,” his mother says, smugness creeping into her plaintive tone. “and all i’m really doing is stalling you.”

“for what? an ambush?” katsuki asks, hands immediately curling into fists. “if you’ve sent eros after me again, i swear i’m breaking more than his bow this time.”

for a brief hopeful moment, aphrodite looks more irked than smug. “no, he’s still mad about that. nice job scarring your own brother, by the way.”

probably smirking at the reminder isn’t the best move, since in the next moment she’s pushing dramatically off the pillar to spin around him, witch eyes dangerously self-satisfied. “anyways, no tricks involved this time. i’m just making sure you’ll be in position for the big moment.”

“what big-“ katsuki starts, but then there’s a clap of thunder and rain starts abruptly pouring downwards, drenching the camp near-instantaneously, and at the exact same moment he spots todoroki emerging from the hills and making a startled beeline for the altars, seeking refuge. motherfuck. “this is not a shitty romcom, you meddling freak!”

“of course not,” aphrodite hums, all very pleased with herself. “and there’s totally no reason why i’ve had such an easy line to you since pretty boy came to camp, either.”

he’s not touching that with a ten-foot pole, but more importantly todoroki is still coming their way fast and he needs her gone, so he doesn’t even attempt to argue that point, just goes for the easier out. “newsflash, love goddess, that shit’s meant to be a two-way street. forcing a mr darcy moment isn’t doing shit.”

“i’m glad you’ve warmed up to the classics,” says his snake of a mother, and then more ominously winks at him. “some advice? ask him what i was like.”

“fuck off already!”

miracle of miracles, she does, just as todoroki sprints the last stretch towards them and ducks rapidly under the pillars himself, red-white hair plastered to his face and singed camp half-blood shirt sodden. an insidiously familiar voice in katsuki’s head takes great relish in noticing that todoroki somehow manages to make the drowned rat look seem more like conceptual fashion than wet dog.

“you look like you just got baptized in an olympic swimming pool.”

“i think it’s the delayed effect of midoriya’s cloud-punching earlier,” todoroki says, blinking water out of his stupidly long eyelashes. “was that venus just now?”

“unfortunately.”

“oh. i’m sorry i missed her. i haven’t been able to thank her properly yet.”

“never thank her for shit,” katsuki warns, fixing him with a deadly serious glare. “not a single thing she does doesn’t have some fucked up secret agenda behind it, trust me. she’ll help you out one time and then in two months she’ll be knocking on your door in the middle of the night demanding you go bump uglies with mineta or some shit.”

todoroki’s perma-neutral expression slides into a mild grimace. “i see.”

he doesn’t want to ask, but there’s a high likelihood that aphrodite was hedging on his being unwilling enough to ask that he would obsess about the unanswered questions alone for long enough to actually snap and confront her again, and that’s not a risk he wants to take, so he grits his teeth and ignores todoroki’s disgustingly colin-firthy movements as he thoughtlessly pushes wet bangs out of his forehead.

“what’d she do when you were out cold, anyways?”

todoroki pauses, thinks this through. “just talked to me. she explained that she’s often around battles because of heightened passions. and she told me the thing about you getting wrinkles.”

fucking hell. “nothing else?” he guesses he might as well add for completion’s sake: “what’d she look like to you, anyways?”

todoroki blinks, then blinks again. “what do you mean?”

“you know, the whole appearance changing schtick,” katsuki handwaves. “what, lucy liu? rihanna? some weird old-timey japanese shit?”

“oh, no,” todoroki says, back to neutral. “i don’t think she was doing any of that. she just looked like you.”

pointedly, a loud clap of thunder underscores this perfectly oblivious statement, because zeus may be katsuki’s favorite god but he’s still a dick.

“she WHAT?”

“i assumed it was so i’d recognise her,” todoroki continues, slightly wary now. “it’s not like i’ve really seen venus around.”

fuck his entire life; he’s fairly sure his accursed disney princess complexion is bestowing a perfectly rosy blush all over his damn face.

“that’s not how that works, dumbass!”

“how does it work, then?”

“i- figure it out yourself!”

“but you clearly know what it is.”

“says who?!”

“bakugou,” todoroki says, fairly patiently, while katsuki is definitely not losing his shit and also making a really significant and underappreciated effort to turn his sudden awareness of a whole lot of underlying emotions floating around them back the fuck off again. fuck these stupid fucking powers. “can’t you just tell me what i’m missing here?”

“fuck off!”

“i’m going to have to try and guess, then,” todoroki decides, looking skywards. “does she just secretly look like that and you’re her truest heir because you’re the only child who turned out like her?”

“absolutely fucking not! just drop it!” katsuki grates, previously rebuilt defences folding like a house of very shitty cards under the sheer weight of the oblivious implications of katsuki being the truest heir of the goddess of beauty. god, icyhot is dense.

“okay. you’re the secret love child of-“

never mind, he does not have the restraint needed to go through with this.

“for fuck’s sake, half ‘n half, her whole thing is that she makes herself attractive to whoever she’s trying to schmooze!”

in the following beat of silence, as he prays violently for lightning to strike him dead and zeus sadistically does not comply, todoroki’s expression clouds, clears, clouds, then clears again, eyes widening a foreboding fraction.

“...oh.”

the rain, naturally, chooses this exact instant to stop dead, plunging them into dead silence as a bird chirps distantly. a rainbow appears directly above their heads.

“real nice,” katsuki grits out, murderously. iris is next on his divine hit list.

todoroki’s eyebrows are still slowly climbing off his face with delayed shock.

“oh.”

he should have just accepted the league’s offer. fucking love gods.

fic writer interview!

How many works do you have on AO3?

37, though another one is going up tomorrow because haunted AO3 hours started and I don't want to post it in the middle of the night on a Monday. Also like 4 or 5 more in reserve from zines/bangs. I'm kinda impressed with myself, but also, side-eyeing y'all with fic counts in the 100s. Phenomenal. Effervescent.

What's your total AO3 word count?

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

In chronological order of first fic on AO3: Percy Jackson, Soul Eater, Steven Universe, My Hero Academia, Dragalia Lost, Avater: the Last Airbender, the Witcher, and Genshin Impact! That's 7 fandoms and I'm not counting Homestuck (I only wrote OC stuff) or D&D (same thing).

I also have works from Axis Powers: Hetalia and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! on Fanfiction dot hell that none of you will ever see. I definitely posted and deleted a Twilight OC fic once.

Summer Break | MHA

ATLA is a powerful fandom so I'm not surprised both my ATLA fics made top five. Dishabille's popularity continues to pleasantly surprise me. Damocles is only surprising because it isn't first. I am so proud of Summer Break and that entire Shinsou series, I'm glad it made top 5 and is gonna break 1k kudos soon. <3

(Now get Dog-Tired up there, I fucking love that story. q^q)

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

To quote Mido: I do, but not consistently. Q^Q I read them all and I really want to reply to them all, but I very frequently simply to not have the energy. I have it posted on my AO3 profile, though, so hopefully it doesn't hurt anyone's feelings... I have recently been trying to at least answer all new incoming comments and not let the backlog increase! (That said, the backlog is over 100.)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I don't tend to do angsty endings (I am a hard lover of angst with a happy ending), but I've written some questionable and bittersweet ones. I think arguably the best contendor for angstiest ending is probably Kindred Spirit. I wrote it to low key revenge myself on @thegc4life for insisting that Shinsou gets a hug (he does! technically!) and it certainly ended ominously.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

As much as I love "Edward Elric gets transported into X universe and proceeds to kick everyone's ass" crossovers, I don't relaly write any. I do enjoy full transplant AUs, though, and the one I recently posted on AO3 is an MHA-at-Hogwards AU called the Birds and the Mares that I wrote for the HP/BNHA Zine!

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Deeeeepends on what you mean by 'hate.' :X has gotten two comments (one much politer than the other, haha) complaining about my use of the r-slur in Shinsou's internal narrative in one of the chapters, but one person backpedaled and said they understood the purpose of it while the other (more vehement) one never replied to my explanation. That's all, though!

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yeah. It's never going on my main AO3 (and the one time it did, I orphaned the fic). I have a side account I might post it on once I get over the fact that people who know me also know about the account. It's all 100% PWP of stuff I personally am into, and I have a very specific set of things I'm into, so... idk, feels a little personal! ^^"

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, but I've had people adopt general concepts I used (fabulous!) and steal my RP OCs back in ye olde fantroll days (not at all fabulous! incredibly hurtful, actually). I am vehemently opposed to plagiarism, even of concepts. It feels so gross.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone in the comments mentioned that they are translating Bloodied Hound into Russian and I am SO EXCITED. I desperately want to read it. Of all the languages, it happened to be the only other one I'm decently literate in! I also want to show my grandparents. I really hope the person follows through. <3

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I've roleplayed a lot, but I can't see myself ever co-writing a fic. I'm not even sure how it works, to be honest!

What’s your all time favourite ship?

Urgh. Pass. I can't pick one. Perils of a multishipper.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I was going to proudly say "I never post things I don't plan on finishing!" but in reality that is a lie, because Falling Down A Rabbit Hole exists from back in 2015 and is in fact the reason I made that rule for myself. ^^" Honestly, what's there still holds up, but the reality is that I didn't actually come up with a plot, so there's nowhere for it to go.

What are your writing strengths?

Interesting/relatable/funny dialogue, and also writing feelings in a 'show, don't tell!' kind of way that leaves strong impressions with people!

What are your writing weaknesses?

Plotting out long stories with good pacing! People thought Damocles had a plot, apparently? Joke's on you, it was a series of "I wanna see this happen" scenarios that I made Hawks suffer through and subsequently strung together like a haphazard multicolor plastic bead necklace that I told everyone was actually pearls.

That's why all my stories after Damocles are either short or split into a series. Shinsou's Bad Days is my attempt at proper pacing, hence it being so episodic.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I'll do it if I know the language well enough (so, Russian and ASL, I don't trust my casual Japanese), but I'm generally a stickler for making things come off naturally, so I otherwise will instead try to find the closest tonal equivalent in English (such as having Childe call Zhongli "professor" instead of "xiansheng"). Sometimes there just isn't one (like Kazuha calling Beidou 'big sis' but in a way that doesn't sound kiddish and overly casual for him), though, which sucks. :( Language is cool!

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

T. Twilight. QUQ I wish that fic still existed, it was like a single chapter of two multicolored hair OCs befriending Alice Cullen and being cool. I deleted it but I SHOULDN'T HAVE. IT WAS HISTORY.

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

This totally changes with each new slew of fics I post. I think currently it is Dog-Tired because despite being unsatisfied with the title, I think the story itself turned out amazing. I also am extremely happy with the entire Shinsou's Bad Days series (including upcoming installments).

Meet Mod Mafuyu!

Hey there! I'm Egg, but for this zine I'm Mod Mafuyu! I'm the head mod, along with the shipping mod! This idea came to me while I was wandering around my college campus and the moment I mentioned it, I immediately had a mod team backing me up! I'm incredibly excited to be able to bring this dream to reality!

In the past I was the head mod/organization mod for Of Fury and Fury: A Bakugou Katsuki zine, and I'm organization mod for TDDK Style, a free pdf zine for the BNHA ship TodoDeku with the theme of Model/Photographer. I'm a writer for Victory Mag, a tabloid-styled BNHA zine focused on the characters in the future! I'm also head modding the Furuba Big Bang! I'm a participant in multiple other big bangs and smaller fandom events.

I really love both the anime and manga for [given], so much so that the second I finished episode nine, I binge-read the manga until 4 am and searched for more content immediately. It's a really important story of loss and love, and I'm really passionate about bringing more attention toward it, I think more people need to hear what it has to say. Not to mention, I love how it integrates music into its narration, and the music is just so beautiful.

I hope myself and my mod team can bring a beautiful zine for everyone to enjoy! I'm excited to be able to see the process all the way to the end with shipping everything off for everyone to enjoy!

Meet Mod Uenoyama!

Hello! I'm Mod Ueno, also known as Mod Anna. I really enjoy participating in projects and helping make them into a reality!

I've been a mod of different events, mainly BNHA. I modded the 2019 TDDK Big Bang, and am returning this year for 2020. I'm also a mod for the Antigravity Zine (Social Media and Finance), and have other zine projects coming up! Most recently, I was a writing contributor for TDDK Style.

I really love this series a whole lot, and I'm so excited to see so many supporters for our zine! My favorite scene has to be Uenoyama having an internal breakdown when Mafuyu confesses; I was waiting for that scene to come up in the anime, and it certainly lived up to my expectations! I really enjoy the character and relationship developments in the series, as they make the story so full and vibrant. I can't wait to see how everyone portrays the characters throughout the seasons of the year!

Hi hi, I'm Mod Haruki. I'm so so excited to be a part of this zine since as soon as the anime aired I felt the need to scream about it to any and everyone. Ended up reading the manga and I love the series so much.

While I've not modded for zines before I'm the head mod of the BNHA Barbie Bang. I've also been a contributor in Of Fire and Fury (a Bakugou Katsuki fanzine), Enough Love To Go Around (a BNHA polyship zine), Overwatch PRIDE Parade zine, YaoyoroZINE, Heroes of the Court (a BNHA x Haikyuu crossover zine).

I'm also currently a contributor for Girl Power (a BNHA girls zine), Caught in Your Orbit (an Ochabowl zine), TDDK STYLE, Versed in Quirky Poetry (a BNHA poetry zine), Magical Meeting (a magical girl crossover zine), and a few more lol.

Heyo, I'm Karma, but in the spirit of the theme, call me Akihiko (or just Aki)! I'm the mod intern and support for my buddies here, given that I've never helped with a zine, but I've got plenty of other stuff to offer! I'm a little behind on the Given hype train due to a move, but I'm very happy to be here now!

I generally mod big bangs, and currently I'm working with the Barbie BNHA bang, the HQ AU Bang, and am putting together a third event right now! Generally when I participate, I join as either a writer or a beta or both, so if you need someone to look over your work I'm more than happy to do so!

Hello, My name’s Cherry - I’ll be known as Mod Ugetsu here! I’ll be [given]: the seasons zine’s formatting and graphics mod. I’ve been in several modding projects prior to this, ranging from bangs, year-long events, weeks and exchanges. This is my second zine modding position.
