as just about anyone could’ve predicted based on… my entire deal, i’m immediately taken with fallen london. the writing is lyrical, clever, and compelling, inclined toward fits of surreal humor and sudden plunges into horror. i like that the degree of randomness involved in story order means that worldbuilding comes together in chaotic, dynamic ways; there’s a lot of oh that explains that weird shit i saw earlier and woah, was i supposed to know that already?. the setting feels alive and full of possibility— i am solving local mysteries and committing petty crimes and writing poetry about mushrooms and chasing cats for their secrets and tripping on magic drug honey. i have no idea what’s going on but i know it rules.
