Living for conspiracy Steve. You know if they tried anything Joan the Disservice cat would be on the case. You also know Diane clocked it during her looky loo walks and she’s got tea. An alliance is forming.
What’s funny about Steve’s paranoia with the electric company van parked outside is that it’s definitely just the electric company.
If SoMeBoDy would just listen to reason then maybe they might remember the bad weather they’ve been having. They live in a suburb just outside of Chicago. It’s windy and wind messes with powerlines, but Steve isn’t dumb. Thank you very much.
He knows that.
Just like he knows what logo Mike said was on the van that El flipped. And like he said, “It’s spycraft 101. Of course, they’re here after a storm. It’s inconspicuous.”
“Big word,” Eddie replies appreciatively. “How do you know that?”
“I took the SATs?”
“Now the word! Why do you think that they’re tapping our phones?”
“It’s in all the movies, Eddie.”
There’s an unspoken duh tacked on to the end of Steve’s sentence and Eddie kinda loves it. He kinda loves how confident Steve is when he’s convinced himself this shit is real and a little part of Eddie wants to play along, but he knows how quickly it can all go bad so, “Baby, please. Stevie, what are they tapping into? We don’t have a landline.”
Steve pauses to think and then peaks back out through the blinds. He mutters, “You don’t know how wiretaps work?”
“Do you?”
Steve just purses his lips and looks even harder out the window which is just Steve-speak for ‘no, actually. I don’t know how wiretaps works because no one does.’ It makes Eddie grin, sliding up behind him and whispering in his ear, “Don’t you think one of our half dozen nosy neighbors would’ve told us if someone was spying on us?”
“Not if-“
“Baby, Diane came over twice last week because she saw a suspicious car in our driveway,” Eddie hums. “It was our car, Steve.”
Steve relaxes back against his chest a little but he knows the battle is not yet won so, Eddie adds, “Sweetheart, think about it. They’d know.”
“That’s true,” Steve relents just a little and then says, “Unless one of our neighbors is a spy.”
“No, baby.”
“Like a nosy neighbor that’s always in our business,” Steve continues, building confidence. “And who has always been in our business ever since we moved in…and who is talking to the electric company people right now.”
Eddie looks out through the peak in the blinds Steve is making and watches as Diane makes her way down her driveway in her pink house shoes, waving at the man halfway up the telephone pole. She calls something up at him but they’re too far away to hear it.
He can feel Steve pull away and Eddie thinks, damn it.
“Well, that friendship was good while it lasted.”

#4: Baleful - Close your eyes
Warning: violence, past trauma, mention of abuse, mention of rape, domestic abuse, blood, torture
He’s waking up.
He doesn’t remember much. He was coming home after a night out, drunk and alone, the girls weren’t receptive to his charms. And then nothing. Just darkness and a violent pain at the back of his skull. He’s fully awake now, though his reality looks like a nightmare. His reflection is staring at him from the ceiling, eyes wide from fear. He is strapped to an operating table, naked, unable to move. He doesn't understand why he's here.
I’d feel bad for him if I didn’t know any better. But I do.
I know what he did to his wife, to his previous girlfriends. I know what type of monster he is. But I’m worse. The saw in my hand is itching to cut, but I can’t start yet. Everything must be done to perfection. So I step out of the shadows and move closer, tape his eyelids open, so he can't close his eyes. Putting that mirror on the ceiling was a real pain in the ass, it’d be a shame if all that work went to waste. I wouldn’t want him to miss the show.
*****
When Thancred reaches the scene everything looks like it did for the previous murders: they still don't have the crime scene, just the dumping area. A godforsaken place where nobody cares what you do or say: welcome to Ul'dah's low town, where the jewel city doesn't shine so brightly. Here only the rule of the three wise monkeys applies: see nothing, hear nothing, and above all shut the fuck up. The perfect place to get rid of a body.
These corpses are not your typical murder victim though: no crime of passion, no hit-and-run. Everything is clean. It’s the third case of the type to end up on his desk, and it's a fucking nightmare. Let’s be clear, the modus operandi is dirty as fuck: shallow cuts all over the body, severed limbs, head cut off… all of that ante mortem, a fucking slaughter. But the scene is fucking spotless, perfectly ordered like a freaking Mog Station warehouse. They don't really have a corpse, more of a human puzzle: the organs and the head sit in separate jars, the limbs are all wrapped up mummy style, personal belongings in a cardboard box... And the cherry on top: not a single witness.
That’s when Thacred's expertise comes to play. See, a regular cop would harass the lab, call them every 5 minutes, pressure them day and night… be a pain in the as. But not detective Thancred Waters. Nah. He has his way of doing things. He lets the lab rats alone, especially with a scene like that which is as much of a nightmare for them as it is for him. If puzzle number 3 is like its friends, CSI can’t do much for him right now, they need to unpack all that shit, literally. So he leaves them the fuck alone, they’re happy, and when they have something conclusive they call their favorite detective: how far one can go by not being an asshole is astonishing.
Instead, Thancred likes to interrogate people. Relatives, of course, that’s police work 101, but he pays extra attention to the little monkeys on the streets: the guy no one notices sitting in the corner, the drug dealer in his vintage car, the homeless lady who sleeps here at night. He just knows how to make them talk. It must be his lucky day because he saw his favorite monkey when he arrived at the scene. It would be rude not to check on his old friend, although “friend” might be a bit of a stretch. He met Theodric in Limsa Lominsa, back when he was still a street urchin, stealing purses from unsuspecting passersby. They were in the same band of petty thieves, followed the same path, except one day Thancred targeted Louisoix Leveilleur. Instead of turning him in, the man saw his potential, and took him under his wing. His life changed that day. Theodric wasn’t so lucky. He got involved with the wrong crowd, took the wrong drug, and ended up here, in one of Ul’dah’s worst neighborhoods where not even the refugees dare to come.
Yeah, not really friends, and considering what he's about to do to him, it's better that way.
 *****
Thancred’s fists hurt from punching Theodric’s ugly face, he needs a break from all that “friendly catching up”. He reaches for a cig and lights it up. Gods, how he loves the taste of tar… finally some stale air to help him breathe. He spares a look to the little monkey slouched against the tainted wall of a shabby restaurant. His face is covered in blood, but he’s not talking. He hates when they stay quiet, he’ll just have to be more explicit.
“You know Theo, I can call you Theo, right? You know… it’s the weekend for me too. As you can imagine that I have other things to do besides fucking up your hideous face. I'm not asking you to share every tiny detail of your sad existence, I’m not your therapist. I’m not even asking for the name of your dealer. Just tell me who the fuck threw away the mummy. That would make me incredibly happy, I’d be able to go home, have a nice bath, you know, normal people shit.”
Thancred takes another puff from his cigarette and looks down at the man who was once his partner in crime. It’s almost like staring at a twisted version of himself, at the man he would have become without Louisoix. Six months ago, he might have gone easy on Theodric, might have tried to help him out. Six months ago, he would have been the man Louisoix wanted him to be, but that guy died in Lahabrea’s basement. All those months of sequestration and torture did a number on him, fucked him up so bad, his soul died back there. Now he's just this empty shell, pretending to be alive out of spite. Just to say “look at me now, I’m still there”. But he's not, not really.
He draws the last puff from his cigarette and crouches next to Theodric, his face on the same level as the junkie's. The little monkey has one open eye, just one, the other is too fucked up. There’s fear in that one eye, but he’s still not talking. Thancred gets his cig close to Theodric’s good eye, so he can understand what’s going to happen next. He likes to let people understand the rest on their own, it stimulates communication.
“You might think I hate you Theo, but I don’t. I don’t give two flying fucks about you. But you see, my shrink told me I had to externalize my rage. When you don't talk to me, it pisses me off, so I have to externalize. On your face. You’re not a bad guy, a little drug here, a little dealing there, it’s not that bad. I’m a whiskey guy myself so really who am I to judge? Just tell me who threw this corpse, so I can calm the fuck down. I don’t need to externalize as much and we both go on our merry ways.”
Thancred punctuates his question by crushing his cigarette's butt on Theo’s arm. His screams echo in the empty street so loudly dogs start to howl, not that anyone cares. Noone would come to his aid, not in this part of town, not when a cop is the one making him scream like a pig. The wise monkey rule reigns supreme. But now he’s in enough pain for Thancred to believe whatever he’s gonna say next.
“Fuck Waters, I swear I don't know anything. You know me, I'm not that brave, if I knew anything I’d be singing like a fucking canary right now. Please let me go, I promise if I hear something I'll tell you. I swear Waters.”
*****
Theodric looks sincere.
It pisses him off, cause now he’s gonna have to resort to a more classic approach and act like a regular cop: talk to the wife and relatives. He hates to act like a regular cop, hates to talk to the wives. He doesn’t know how to deal with crying people. He used to be good at people skills, he’s not anymore.
He needs a drink.
He ends up at the Quicksand like always. It’s a second house for all sorts of human trash: bikers, dealers, pimps, him...
Thancred likes the atmosphere, and the barmaid, Lya. Lya is good. It sounds dumb, but she is. She smiles all the time and listens to everyone’s bullshit without judging. She’s pretty too, beautiful even. When she smiles it's a bit like a breeze blowing over a field of poppy, it shakes him to the core. It shakes up any guy. They all want to throw themselves in her arms and let her lull them to sleep as a mother would. She could turn the most vicious wolf into an obedient little lamb with just one smile. All the guys here come for her: the alcohol tastes like piss, the food is barely decent when it’s not expired, and the walls grow mold. But she's here. They all want her, but no one touches her. She’s broken, they all know that. They might be a bunch of heartless assholes, but they have principles. And Lya is off-limits. Her last boyfriend used to beat her up to a pulp, she still has a scar running down the side of her face. It doesn't take away from her beauty, but it drives him mad with rage.
One night he was taking a piss behind the bar – mind you the alley’s hygiene is better than the loo inside – he saw the guy slap her, and felt the irrepressible urge to externalize his rage on the asshole’s face, so he did. Repeatedly, until he was the one lying on the ground, pissing himself. They’ve been friends ever since. She listens to his stupid jokes, gives him the best food, stops pouring drinks when she thinks he’s too drunk and smiles at him. She smiles so brightly he feels like a little boy in a candy store, hopeful and fearless.
She looks out of place in this dirty joint full of heartless assholes, like a porcelain doll forgotten in a construction site, but she’s one of them: damaged. They don’t want to break her, they can all see the cracks in her porcelain skin, so no one touches her. They just pretend, pretend they have a chance, pretend they’re good enough for her. They even play this game where the last guy standing can ask her out. They drink until they either pass out or leave, and only one guy is left. The winner never asks her out, but still, they come every night to drink and dream.
*****
I always start with small incisions, quick and superficial. It stings just a little, but not too much. The most important thing is not the pain or the screaming, it’s the fear, the anticipation. It’s a wholesome experience: he gets to feel, see, and smell all of it. People often forget to mention the smell, iron and urea, blood and piss. The mix elicits a primal reaction: run, it says, run. But he can’t.
*****
It’s Monday and Thancred has an appointment with the third victim’s wife. She looks vaguely familiar, must be from the file or the guy’s belongings. The murderer never bothered to hide his victim's identity. Hell, they even leave a special box for passports and other personal stuff. So yeah, she looks familiar, but he’s been in Ul’dah for a while, so it’s not a surprise. What he can’t stand is the way she's fidgeting on her chair.
Thancred doesn’t like when the witness fidgets because a regular cop would think ‘hum, that’s suspicious'. Thancred tried being a regular cop once, wasn’t for him, so he stopped, started being an asshole instead with some instinct sprinkled on top, it was a wholesale price. Still, the fidgeting is annoying. And she still looks familiar, more than she should from just a file picture. Thancred can’t put his finger on it. Maybe he fucked her once. He was kind of a womanizer before his life went to shit, before Lahabrea. It doesn’t explain why she’s so nervous, or why she keeps nervously rubbing her arms. Nor does it explain the five layers of clothes. It’s at least 35° out, and she’s out in the sun with a freaking turtleneck. The outrageous makeup has to be the icing on the cake.
And that’s when it hits him. He knows her, but not from the file, or a one-night stand. She’s from Lya’s support group for battered women. That’s why she’s nervous. Not because he’s her former lover, not even because he’s a cop, but because he’s a man. That’s why number 3’s dead: he was trash like the rest.
"Excuse me for a few minutes."
Thancred gets up and exits the room, leaving the widow alone. He spots Minfilia across the room and strides towards her.
"Hey Min, I'm gonna need you to take this one."
"Why?", she teases, "finally found a widow impervious to your charms?"
"Pretty sure our so-called victim wasn't the loving husband he owed to be."
Understanding flashes on her face, she drops the file she was reading on her desk and follows him to the interrogation room. Relief washes over the widow’s face when she sees Minfilia.
“This is my colleague, Detective Warde. She’s going to take it from here.”
Then he’s out again, leaving the two women alone. He goes to his desk while Min does her thing, and looks for the victim’s name in the database. He doesn’t need to watch Min do her work, he trusts her to get the answers they need. The petite blonde has great people skills, and she’s one of the good ones. She's so good, it's hard not to hate her. He doesn't though, never did, never will.
She’s one of the few friends he has left, one of the few people to put up with his bullshit after Lahabrea's "incident". He loves her like the little sister he never had, and more than anything he respects her. She's a good friend and a good cop, something this city sorely lacks. Rhabdan runs a tight ship as chief of police, but there's always a few bad apples in the bunch, not Min though. She's one of the good ones, not some disillusioned asshole like him. It's hard to be hopeful in a city like Ul'dah where being rich means one can escape any form of responsibility. Like number 3 here. His wife's medical record is a testament to his behavior: bruised face, broken ribs, even lacerations. It's a miracle the woman is still alive. But her in-laws are rich, and influential: Lolorito's people. That's why Thancred is not so sure he wants to catch the killer, not when they're doing what he's not free to do himself.
When Minfilia is done with the interrogation, she motions for him to join her in the break room. She confirms what Thancred already knows: the guy was an asshole.
He needs a fucking drink.
*****
First I remove his dick, not like he’s gonna need it anymore. I do this slowly, very slowly. I want him to suffer. This is also what the mirror on the ceiling is for, and the tape on the eyelids, no escape. He must see everything and especially hear everything, the slightest tear of his flesh, the sound of his blood dripping on the sanitized tiles, the scalpel cutting his flesh, my slow breathing. The shock of emasculation makes him pass out. It’s okay, we have all the time. I cauterize his wound, I don't want him to bleed out and die. Not yet.
*****
Another corpse: emasculated, dismembered, and wrapped up like his buddies.
Thancred lights another cigarette and crouches down in front of the jar containing the head. He knows this face, he broke that nose: Lya's ex. Suddenly the crime scene doesn't seem ugly anymore, it shines with glitter and shit. It makes him happy to see that stupid face in a jar, means he won't be a problem for Lya anymore. He's also the second "victim" who likes to take out his anger on women, there has to be something there. Thancred needs to take another look at the first three victims, they can't be all that clean.
He ponders whether he should tell Lya about this. Would that make her happy? It might make her feel better, safer. "By the way, the asshole who used to beat you up is dead, a serial killer took care of it."
Yeah. Maybe he needed to work on his speech.
It’s just him and the old Bernie now, playing that secret game of theirs. The old man sends him a dirty look before finally getting up. Thancred wins tonight, and he plans on taking her out for real, not just in his head. It's a lucky day after all, maybe she'll say yes.
The bar is empty that time around. ‘Good’ he thinks, 'Her smiles will all be mine.'
She’s smiling more than usual, she looks happy even, so he decides not to say anything. She smiles, but she’s seldom happy, no point in ruining the mood. The asshole will be just as dead tomorrow. So he sits at the bar to be closer to her, and drinks while he tells her stupid nonsense. One drink, then a second, and finally a whole bottle.
*****
He waking up again, and we’re back in business. Killing a man isn’t easy work, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. My mom used to tell me: “When things get hard, just put them in different boxes and deal with them one at a time.” So I do just that: I cut him into small pieces, wrap them up, put them in nice little jars.
First his right arm, the one he used to slap his women. I cut just below the elbow, he screams like a piglet being bled out. Then his left arm, all the way up to the shoulder, his legs, and finally his head.
*****
He wakes up to an empty room. Of course, she’s not here, why would she? She’s in his fantasy, not in his reality. It was such a vivid dream, it left him hard and wanting. He buries his face in the sheets, and he can almost smell her. As if dreams could leave a scent behind. Fucking morning wood. He needs release and a shower, but first, he wants a smoke.
He dreams of Lya that night.
She's riding him like a fierce amazon, her breasts moving to the rhythm of their bodies. Everything about her is erotic, her hungry gaze, her mischievous smile. That smile excites him as much as it soothes him. Fuck, he doesn't want to get out of this dream, but his alarm rings, and the dream is gone.
He walks to the kitchen naked, he lives alone and doesn’t give a fuck about flashing his neighbors. She’s standing in his kitchen, a coffee mug in hand. She’s wearing one of his shirts; it’s a bit too big for her, but too short to be decent. She’s so fucking beautiful wearing his clothes, if he wasn’t hard before, he certainly is now. And then he remembers everything.
She kissed him outside the restaurant, he wouldn’t have dared, but she kissed him. They ended up at his place. They made love on his couch, in the shower, in his bed. He didn’t fuck her, no, he worshiped her: kissed every inch of her skin, licked every freckle. He prayed to her body like a mad man, as much as he could, as much as she let him.
She said yes.
All the alcohol made his brain soft and mushy, but he remembers now. He helped her close the bar, and they went to that new place near his precinct. The one that stays open until 3 am. They talked, he told her he was a cop, she said she knew. It was written in the way he moved, in the way others moved around him. They talked all night long, and she smiled. Gods, that freaking smile got him good. They talked so much, they got kicked out.
He must look like a fucking idiot now, with that surprised look on his face and his hard cock because she bursts out laughing. A laugh that explodes like fireworks and ricochets against the walls of his apartment, leaving notes of bright colors everywhere. It's crazy how beautiful she is when she laughs. He wants her, needs her.
He strides towards her, lifts her off the floor, and drops her off her gently on the kitchen table. He doesn’t want to break her, doesn’t want to worsen the cracks in her porcelain skin. Then he makes love to her, in the middle of his kitchen, with the blinds open for the world to see. Because he can, because she wants him as much as he wants her.
*****
His instinct about the victims being trash was right.
After some heavy digging in the first two victims’ past, he finds what he needs. Victim number one’s a serial rapist: used to slip roofies in women’s drink, raped them, and filmed the whole thing, threatening to release the tapes if they tried to report him. Not that they would, the guy was filthy rich, another one of Ul’dah’s “cream of the crop”, these women knew they didn’t have a chance to see justice. If it wasn’t for his “barely legal” deep dive in the guy’s personal belongings - he might have stolen his computer after breaking into his parents’ house - Thancred wouldn’t even know about it.
Victim number 2 was no better, he had a long history of domestic violence and child abuse, but no open case, not even a complaint. Now adding number 3 and Lya’s ex to the list… these guys all deserved to die like pigs. He should say it, should even think like that, but he does. He doesn’t even want to catch the culprit, for all he cares they should be free to rid the city of these predators. Should even get paid for doing public service.
Looking at the so-called victim’s file drives him mad with rage. He wants to drink, but more than anything he needs to see Lya; He can even pretend to do police work while he’s at it. She knows at least one of the women, she’s a victim herself, maybe she knows more.
The Quicksand is packed. He has to share her smile and his time, it annoys him, but it's okay. Tonight she will be his, and his alone. He sits at the bar, she smiles at him, and he’s not mad anymore. He orders whiskey, then another, and another. After the third glass, the rush finally dies down, and they can talk. He tells her about his investigation, and tells her about her ex. She's a little shaken up, but it's okay, she is strong.
He shows her pictures of the victims, not the one from the autopsy, he’s not that stupid, pretty pictures with happy smiles and perfect lives. Moments of happiness he knows to be fake. He asks her if she knows the victims or their wives, through her support group, or by word of mouth. She nods. She knows the wives of 2 and 3, she talks to them often. She recognizes the last victim, of course, he was her monster.
Thancred’s curious to know what she thinks about all this, that’s the cop in him, but he’s also worried about how it’ll affect her.
“I don't know… well I do. I know I shouldn't be happy, but I am,” she admits. “I'm a little less afraid.”
He hates that she feels guilty.
“I’m glad he’s dead,” he states, hoping she’ll feel relieved that those words are coming from him. “Now, I know he won’t  prowl you around anymore.”
She smiles softly, and he has the urge to make love to her on the bar, in front of everyone. But he won’t, Lya is a goddess, not a girl who gets fucked in a bar. He’s going to buy her flowers, and maybe a nice bottle of wine. He might even light some candles to set the mood, then he’s gonna make love to her, again and again until they both pass out in blissful exhaustion.
*****
I dispose of his body in one of the city’s garbage dumps. It’s the perfect place to get rid of a body. And this open sky trash dump is perfect for me: exactly what this trash deserves. The people who live here all look dead, the only thing that sets them apart from my guy is the steady movement of their hearts. That, and the fact that they’re all in one piece, for the most part.
*****
Reports come back on Lya’s ex.
Toxicology’s clean, no head trauma either, he wasn’t drugged or incapacitated like the others. He might have known his assailant. The rest of the report looks similar at first glance, cuts all over the body, severed limbs, emasculation, beheading. It’s the same MO but somehow it feels messier: the body shows hesitation marks, the cuts are deeper, meant to hurt... it feels more personal, like an act of revenge.
Fuck.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
*****
He opens up his flat’s door and practically runs towards the kitchen. He needs a drink before seeing Lya. It can’t be her, when she smiles the ground shakes, she turns wolves into lambs. She’s so small, with soft porcelain skin, tiny hands… It can’t be her, yet his guts tell him otherwise.
He’s halfway in the kitchen when he spots her. She’s waiting for him, his backup gun in those tiny hands of hers. When he dreamt of coming home to her that’s not what he had in mind.
She’s smiling at him, a sad little smile because she doesn’t want to kill him, not really. He might be an asshole but he doesn’t hurt women. Maybe she likes him too. She’s crying now, tears rolling down her beautiful face. It’s stupid but he still wants to throw himself in her arms. It’s stupid because she’s going to kill him.
She’s gonna try anyway.
*****
Gunshots echo in the room, followed by the loud thud of a lifeless body hitting the ground.

commission for @hawkbucks, who asked for winteriron + bucky meeting harley. im really sorry this took so long, but i wanted to make sure i got it right before i put it out, (1) because you gave such a generous donation without even asking for anything and (2) you’re one of my favourite content creators
--
in this au, harley is tony and maya’s biological child; because i read a piece a couple of weeks ago where that was the case and i love that concept (if anyone remembers what fic that is, will they please tell me so i can link it here); and pepper and tony never get together.
set sometime after endgame, established relationship, desi!tony, irondad
//
James had survived 70 years as HYDRA’s plaything, died because of a megalomaniac purple minion and the absolute unit that is James Rhodes, and the thing he was still the most scared of was meeting Tony’s son
If the way Tony kept bobbing his foot up and down despite his aversion to people fidgeting their feet was any indication; Tony was also nervous
Silently, James reaches over and threads their fingers together, and Tony smiles at him gratefully
He leans his head against James’ shoulder, and they stay like that for a couple of seconds- until the bell at the front of the restaurant rings and they jump apart
Harley walks over and wraps his hands around his father from behind, leaning down to press a kiss on Tony’s cheek, before he pulls out a chair and sits down
“Harley Keener,” the eighteen year old says, extending a hand that James shakes, “its a pleasure to finally meet the guy who’s making dad so happy”
“James Barnes,” he replies, “but you already knew that”
He smiles at Harley, before a thought occurs to him, “wait- Keener?” he gestures between Tony and Harley, “I thought you were Tony’s kid?”
“I am,” Harley says, “but I didn’t know that until I was about 13. Plus, Harley Stark sounds like the name of a bike not a person”
James chuckles, and next to him- Tony’s shoulders slump ever so slightly, “yeah I guess it does”
“So!” Harley claps his hands, and starts looking around for a waiter, “should we order?”
-
Lunch goes smoothly, albeit slightly awkwardly until Tony realises that his son doesn’t hate him for getting a life, and he loosens up
Harley, James discovers, is just as witty as his father- an as intelligent, if not more
“It’s because mine and Maya’s DNA combined to form him,” Tony says- trying to demonstrate the bonding of DNA with his fingers, “individually we’re more geniuses so our baby is a super genius”
“Maya’s the um, EXTREMIS chick right?’ James asks- and instantly he knows its the wrong thing to say because Harley’s face darkens
“My mom didn’t create EXTREMIS,” he says coldly, “my mom created a serum intended to help veterans. Killian created EXTREMIS, and my mother died trying to stop him”
He dabs the napkin at his mouth, before pushing off the table, “excuse me I need the loo”
He shifts out of the way as Tony reaches for him, and Tony just watches him go- looking between the two of them helplessly
“I’m sorry,” James says urgently, because he needs to make sure Tony knows he didn’t mean to, “I’m so unbelievably sorry I didn’t realise what I was saying that’s completely on me I - “
He stops when Tony waves him down, “I know you didn’t mean it James, but I still gotta -” he gestures towards the bathroom, “Just stay here I’ll be back”
Tony pushes off the table and barely restrains himself from sprinting after his son, and James is left mulling at his food- wondering how he’d already fucked up
He’s picking at his mac and cheese, when Harley sits back down on the table; and James freeze immediately
“At ease soldier,” Harley says with a half smile, “I’m not going to bite”
“Where’s your dad?” James cranes his neck to look past Harley, who snaps his fingers in front of James’ face
“Dad’s not coming back, I asked him for some time alone with you”
There’s a familiar sense of dread taking over
“Look,” Harley says, scratching the back of his neck, “I’m new to this whole thing okay? I know my dad was this huge playboy before he knew I existed or whatever, but ever since he took me in- he’s never had a person over. I’ve only known him for 5 years but it feels like a lifetime, and this is hard for me”
“I’m not ready to share him with someone else,” Harley says- and James valiantly fights the urge to reach over and comfort the teenager, “but he seems to really like you, and from what I can tell; you do too so it should be okay”
James smiles,”I love your dad Harley, and I’m not trying to take him away from you I swear. Tony made it clear from the first date that you come first, and I respect that. I would never do anything to hurt him, he’s the love of my life”
“Good,” Harley says, the heat in his eyes a stark contrast to the nonchalant tone of his voice, “because if you do try and hurt him, I won’t be the only one coming after you. But I will be the one you don’t expect”
James gulps, but before he can try and think of a response; Tony comes back to the table with a tight smile on his face
“Everything alright here? How’re my favourite boys getting along?”
Harley turns around and beams at his dad, “swimmingly”
“I’m glad,” Tony says; settling in next to James, “now- about this Parker boy in your texts”!
Harley groans and covers his face in his palms, before mulishly talking about Peter, some guy from his Physics 101 class
Under the table, Tony’s fingers find his and they squeeze, and James knows that they’re going to be okay

My Weekly Fic Recs Wrap Up
For numbers 101 - 106ヽ(*⌒∇⌒*)ノ 💖
101. Redeem Me by Samayel
Two years after the events of Harry's sixth year at Hogwart's, Draco stumbles back into his life. Harry is a bitter and vengeful young man, Draco is a walking wreck...and who is helping who?
102. Change My World by charlotteschaos
Rampaging hormones lead to an adventure between Harry and Draco that changes everything.
103. The Voldemort Manor by  kedavranox @kedavranox
The Malfoy Manor is a state run museum, renamed The Voldemort Manor by the Ministry for Magic. As part of his probation, Draco is assigned as sole caretaker. When the Manor hosts a series of high class events celebrating the Wizarding World’s fourth Yuletide season Post War, it brings with it a swathe of people Draco hasn’t seen in years; including one, Harry Potter.
104. When It Alteration Finds by momatu
After the war, Harry left most of the Wizarding world behind and built a new life for himself in the Channel Islands. He opened a bakery and is happy with his life. Draco is a fiction author who writes under a penname, and he's currently suffering from writer's block. His agent suggests he try writing in a new environment and rents a cottage in the Channel Islands for him.
105. The Heat by Samayel
All Harry wanted was a way to cool off in the heat of summer, but a chance encounter with Draco slowly becomes a relationship fraught with issues.
106. Draco Malfoy: Toilet Supremo by who_la_hoop
It must be a vision brought on by eating cheese sarnies too close to bedtime, Harry thinks. There's no way that Draco Malfoy can really be standing on his doorstep, calling himself a Toilet Supremo, and expecting Harry to buy not only this unlikeliest of scenarios, but also a new loo.
But no: Harry's eyes do not deceive him. Malfoy, Lord of Toilets, is really there. Which begs a very important question: what the hell is he up to, and what evil scheme is he about to unleash? Because there must be an evil scheme . . . mustn't there?
I hope you liked these recs for the week, Here are some other treats from my bookmarks you might enjoy!
Touch Me Fall by lq_traintracks (lumosed_quill) @lqtraintracks
Malfoy was such a ponce. And he was a complete snob. And he was so fucking fit Harry wanted to jump him where he sat. It would be too easy to forget his objective tonight: to really, really, really get Malfoy out of his system.
What I thought by bafflinghaze @bafflinghaze
Draco thought they were in a relationship. Harry thought it was just sex.
The Gentlewizard Club by Sophie_French
Draco wants what Draco wants. And if he has to snuggle up to Harry to get it, well, surely, Draco can handle that. Problem is, not sure Harry can.
I highly recommend you go back through the Fic Rec tag and look at the recs in more detail, because even though I don’t leave my actual thoughts about the fics, I do leave excerpts from them, that are great. If you do want to talk to me about any of the fics, please don’t hesitate to comment! Or come talk to me on the Discord! xo - Carey ʚ♡⃛ɞ(ू•ᴗ•ू❁)💜💙💚💛🧡❤💖

2019 is a complete mess.
Don't really use tumblr and people I talk to don't use it so i'm going to rant to myself. Life is literally so rubbish right now. I'm being tested on how to adult and I so hope i'm succeeding so far. First day back at work at the new year led to two weeks of late nights until midnight, one 24 hour shift and a lot travelling around all because someone is shit at their job and later showed no remorse. The bitch needs sacking in my eyes. I will NEVER forgive her for what she has caused.
My mum ended up being a victim of fraud that we wouldn't have even known if she didn't have a direct debit set up to her card for her travel card. No idea how this has happened but they could have got a way with it without us even knowing.
I had my first car accident. Luckily everyone involved was fine and my car has little damage, the damage to the other car isn't great but it's not crazily bad. I still 100% it wasn't my fault. So I've had to deal with sorting out my insurance and ferrying my car around to get it fixed and having to deal with phone calls when I don't have a clue what i'm doing and HATE phone calls.
And to be the icing on the cake, my ex has decided that two months later, he wants to continue with his harassment of me because I haven't had any contact with him and is using my details to make social media accounts including a reddit account called "ICouldGetYouSacked". Marvellous. Great. Police can deal with you, sunshine. I don't need this crap anymore. So I had to do the adult thing and pluck up the courage to phone 101 to report it and now i'm waiting for a call to meet up with an officer. So here I am waiting on phone calls for pretty much everyone, I get a no caller ID call which turns out to sound like a bunch of lads stood around chatting and no response when I say hello. Instantly think it's my ex stood around with his college mates just staring at his phone in disbelief i'd answered. And he has the audacity to call me again. Bitch, i'm not answering. I'm actually scared for my life, particularly when on his reddit there is two posts on the same day, one about me and how he'd somehow got to look at my Instagram when his account has been blocked (stalker!), and one about asking how people would go about murdering someone. This kid gets triggered by stuff. I haven't seen him since November (?) so the only explanation is he's either seen me around town or his mum has mentioned seeing me in the shopping centre loos. To be triggered by that is not right.
But then at the end of all of this, I have the greatest bunch of friends at the moment and a potential new boyfriend. Nothing official as it's very early stages but everyone knows there's something there and we spent 2 hours just cuddling in the freezing cold the other night without many cares in the world. So all of this makes it worth while and this year can only get better.

here’s a nice neat lil post about the basics about toon heaven and a dump about sidney! :0
Toon Heaven functions similarly to Toontown, stylized as what you’d see depicted most commonly in cartoons ( pearly gates, fluffy clouds, pink skies and beams of warm sun ) except it’s stylized like a Playground! The Playground is called Heaven Haven, and has a trio of streets filled with buildings and Toon Angel estates- Sacred Street, Angel Avenue, and Prayer Plaza!
There’s only three ranks in Toon Heaven’s hierarchy, but the rank of Head Angel exists exclusively for Sidney! Going down, it’s Archangel for Toons who’ve been there for a long while, and Angel for newcomers! They’re given various Toontasks through Sidney, which sometimes involve visiting other Toons down in Toontown to fulfill their prayers, or even send their aid in battle!
The currency is called Halos! ( Unfortunately, It gets confusing for some, as angels have halos as well. ) They’re little coins with halo shapes in them, and down below, would be worth about ten Jellybeans a piece!
All Doodles go to heaven, too, so there’s never an Angel Doodle without a Toon to take care of them!
A Toon’s death can be anywhere from comical to… not so comical, but if they’re set to go up, their angel rises from where they once were! Toons who feel as though their death was unjustified can ask for a second chance below, but this requires a lot of hoops to jump through..
An angel’s wings appear as a non-functioning Accessory down in Toontown, but there’s no known equivalent for an angel’s halo!
The Wedding Cake in Toon Heaven is an Angel Food Cake!!
Sidney Waltzington works as the only right hand angel to the Creator, and he’s a very sweet, considerate Toon! He also speaks for the power higher than him, and often greets Toons at the pearly gates when their time comes. Sometimes, he’ll pop on down to Toontown as the Toon “Silly Tiddlywinks” to see how things are! He loves to play Trolley games and explore Toontown to see what’s changed! He’s not too good at fighting Cogs anymore, however, and oftentimes falls back and uses his enormous plethora of Toon-up Gags to help others instead! The sad thing about Sidney, however, is that before Toontown was Rewritten, he was the first Toon to die of fright.
Sidney’s from the original Toontown Online era! He remembers quite a lot, but not everything.
He’s the first Toon Angel of all time! He’s both proud, and not very proud, of that fact.
Sidney essentially has celebrity status, in the vein of folks like Flippy, Riggy Marole and even Mickey Mouse! He’s an icon in Toon Heaven- Not that he likes it, however.
If you give him anything with peanut butter, he’ll love you forever!
As Silly, he’s got 101 Laff, and uses Toon-up, Throwand Sound near exclusively! Toon HQ cant find any records of him moving to Toontown, though…
Sidney and Lucy Loo are constantly on to one another, and while Sidney would happily talk things down peacefully, Lucy would much prefer to bonk the retriever with a mallet most of the time.
Sidney takes good care of his wings, to make sure they look nice!
While Sidney doesn’t have a Doodle, he has a succulent that he keeps in his heaven estate window! It’s name is Janine.
His birthday is January 2!
When down in Toontown, he sometimes asks when holidays or big events are going to happen so he can take part! His favorite is ToonFest.
Sidney loves you!!

How to Create a Website Funnel in 6 Easy Steps [2021]
Tumblr media
So, you want to know how to create a website funnel?
You’ve probably read 101 examples, definitions, how-tos, and more. The reality is there’s a lot of information about funnels but a lot of it comes from people that don’t actually make them.
That’s where we differ. We’re an agency that uses websites and website funnels every day to help deliver results for our clients.
My promise to you is by the end of this article, you’re going to have a full understanding of what a website funnel actually is, see some examples that might help you in your niche, and have a complete A to Z step by step process (along with some awesome insider tips) on exactly how you can make a funnel to help you grow your business.
Sounds good?? Great… let’s jump right in!
What Is a Website Funnel?
Okay, so before I can really show you HOW to make a funnel, I need to establish a few baseline meanings and definitions.
There are quite a few takes, some of them okay and some just plain wrong. So let’s discuss what all this really means.
Definition of a Website Funnel
A website funnel, also called a marketing funnel, is a process you create using digital ads, webpages, and/or emails to attract buyers and guide them through a series of desired actions, typically ending with either a lead or a sale.
What this means in layman's terms is that instead of going to a home page of a business and YOU choosing which page or button to click next, there are typically only two choices… move forward through the funnel or stop, cancel, opt-out, or just leave the page.
Website vs Funnel
We’ve already established that a website funnel, or marketing funnel, is a guided experience that involves web pages (and other digital assets) in a linear progression.
How does that differ from a website?
A website funnel is a form of conversion-centric design that guides people through a series of simple choices until the end goal is met or the user opts out.
While a website is a series of web pages organized in a manner that the user can choose his path by selecting from many options and links (aka menus).
Why You Should Use Funnels
The reason why funnels are so useful boils down to how people make decisions.
Sparing you all the dull science behind this, essentially when people are faced with too many options they tend to not make ANY choice.
Note, I didn’t say “not make the right choice”... I said, “not make ANY choice”.
What does that mean?
Well, if you build a really cool fancy new website for your business and start driving ads to it say from Facebook, it’s very likely that the overwhelming amount of choices and information you have is confusing and causing people to hit the back button.
On the contrary, funnels are typically a “Yes/No” choice at any given point.
Do you want this free download?
Will you sign up for this webinar?
Will you fill out this form to talk to our team?
You’re presented with a value proposition of some kind (more on that later) and if your persona targeting (more on that later too) is right, then you’re proposing a solution to a problem to a group of people who have that exact problem.
Done correctly, they effectively sell themselves.
Oh, and did I mention that funnels work 24/7 365 days a year? So, you can replace your outbound sales efforts with a funnel and have leads and sales done for you on auto-pilot… once it’s built and all the kinks worked out of course!
Website Funnel vs Traditional Funnel
I’m pretty sure that the first time the word “funnel” was used in relation to business sales and marketing had nothing to do with websites or anything digital.
In fact, the first I heard it was doing sales training years and years ago.
It’s the same concept (minus the auto-pilot aspect) in that it was an established process or sequence of steps designed to take a person from a cold prospect to a hot lead ready to buy.
The main difference between a traditional and a website funnel is that the traditional is well… traditional. That is to say, it involves things like cold calling, mailers, billboards, call centers, door knocking, and the like to attract leads.
Then, there would typically be some form of manual presentation of the product along with big hooks to reel you in.
Not sure what I mean… think about door-to-door vacuum sales.
On the flip side, using the same psychology and understanding of how people make decisions, you can use modern technology to create automated systems to do the same thing that it used to take floors of sales reps to do.
Funnel Examples
Not sure exactly what I mean yet? No worries. We have quite a few examples for you to help SHOW you exactly what we mean.
Below are a few funnel diagrams (called funnel maps) that help illustrate the process a prospect would go through starting from various online traffic sources like Ads and Youtube, going through multiple forms of pages, and leading to some conversion event like becoming a lead or making a purchase.
Lead Generation
This example is one that is perfect for service-based businesses.
Tumblr media
Instead of taking non-stop inbound calls from lookie-loo’s that waste your time, you can use ads to target your ideal customer, then guide them through a series of pages to help educate them and when they are ready, they can schedule a call with you that shows up on your phone automatically! Cool huh?!
eCommerce Funnel
Or, let’s say you have an e-commerce shop. Have you ever tried running ads straight to your main shop page only to see no sales? Yep… it’s not good.
Tumblr media
Using a funnel like this, you can go from ad to sale automatically using emails and retargeting to help nurture your sales, as well as up and cross sales in your funnel to help you maximize your profit.
Okay… so hopefully by now, you know what a website funnel is and you’re ready to build one for yourself. Let’s go!
How to Create a Website Funnel Step by Step:
So now it’s time to make your funnel. Whether this is your first or your 100th, every one of these steps is critical.
When you really get down to it, there are only 3 things that create sales (or other decisions).
The Right Person
The Right Message
The Right Time
I’d say that every single funnel I’ve seen that wasn’t working well (including my own) was not because of the design or layout or what software I used. It was because the planning steps were wrong or off somehow.
Remember this: “People buy emotionally and then justify logically”
With that said, please follow these steps and don’t try to just put something up instantly because you can. The hard work in a funnel is in the first few steps… and they are the most important!
Step 1 - Who is Your Ideal Customer & What Do They Want?
So, this step is so important, that literally, we don’t touch a client project of any kind without diving in to understand and develop an avatar or ideal customer persona.
In fact, in our coaching program, it’s the first module of our training method and often the focus of most of our conversations. It’s THAT important.
Tumblr media
A “customer persona”, sometimes called a “client avatar”, is a very clear depiction of exactly who your customer is.
I don’t just mean age and location here. I mean who are they? What do they want? What do they fear? What are their goals and dreams?
So, how do you build one?
Write Down Your Customers
First, take any customers you have and figure out the ones you like doing business with the most.
If you’re new, you may need to find friends that closely fit who you think will buy your product/service. It’s important to remember the word BEST here… not ALL of your clients. Think your favorite 5-10%.
Interview Your List
Next, you need to talk to your list of people and ask them some questions. You want to start with the basic demographic questions like age, location, and other basic demo questions.
Then, you get into the important emotional-based questions. Remember since people buy emotionally, this is where the real magic is.
The important thing here is to ask open-ended questions and truly listen and empathize. Don’t cut people off… really listen.
Example questions I ask:
What is your current #1 frustration?
What is your biggest dream or goal?
Notice I didn’t ask questions like “what is your current #1 frustration with your [insert product name]”??
That’s because I want to know what really drives people. Sometimes you sell a product and think you’re selling it because of one reason, but the reality is much different.
Just truly get to know your customer and you’ll do just fine… oh and take lots of notes… you’ll need them!
Create a Persona Sheet
Now that you’ve done your interviews and you’ve taken notes, you now need to digest all of that info and find the commonalities.
Let’s say you sell baby products to moms. Was their current struggle not having enough time? Maybe not knowing what to do? Whatever the common trend was, you now need to make a sheet and write these down.
Start with the demographic basics as well as the big motivating questions. Once you have all that on a sheet, you have all the ammo you need to make this funnel kick butt!
Step 2 - Map Out Your Funnel
Next, it’s time to map out your website funnel!
Depending on the needs of your customer and the type of product/service you have these can vary greatly.
Tumblr media
However, there are a minimum few things that all funnels need:
A source of traffic - FB ads, Google Ads, Organic traffic, social, email, etc.
A landing page - a page that explains the core offer to the prospect
A conversion event - this could be just filling out a form on the previous page and hitting a thank you page.
However, there are a few more common items including in funnels such as upsells, emails, and sometimes even phone calls and SMS. The sky is the limit. You just have to think about your customer and what’s best/easiest for them.
If you’re not an expert here (which I assume you’re not if you’re reading this article), then it’s best to have some templates to go off of, then customize as you need.
For mapping, we typically use either Google Drawings (free) or Funnelytics (free & paid plans). All of the examples shown in this article were made with Funnelytics.
Also, a cool bonus feature in Funnelytics is it tracks the performance of your funnel (more on that below). We use this for all of our and our client funnels.
Step 3 - Write Your Copy For Each Step
Now that you have your funnel map, you have a list of all the items you need to write copy (or words) for.
Tumblr media
Using your map as a checklist, start writing your copy in a word doc. Don’t try to design and write. You need to focus on the message, the core offer, and the root of the problem you help your persona solve!!
Copywriting is a huge thing to cover and we can’t give it justice in this article, but here’s a few pro tips:
Keep on message! It’s easy to stray and include things that aren’t part of the core picture. Focus on the persona’s problem and what you do to solve that problem, to make their life better, etc.
Use stories to relate to your audience. Don’t just tell them WHAT you do… tell them WHY you do it, WHY it matters to you. Remember people buy emotionally… and stories help convey emotion!
Be crystal clear with your message and refrain from using “fluff words”.
Write problem-focused high-impact headlines. Your headline should immediately tell you what you do and who you do it for in less than 2 seconds.
Make your offer (conversion event) easy to understand. If it’s a product, what comes with the product, is there a warranty or refund period, when will I get it, etc. If it’s a service, what should I expect next, when will the service be done, will you call me or I call you, etc.
Focus on benefits and NOT features. Don’t tell me the specs of your product, tell me how it’ll impact my life. No one cared about the bit rate of the iPod… they cared because of the slogan “1000 songs in your pocket.” That phrase empowered people, not the format or battery life or other meaningless spec or feature.
Make sure your ads are written to catch attention… tell the problem, but it must have a wow factor to stand out.
Once you have all your copy done, time to build your funnel!!
Step 4 - Design & Build Your Funnel
Similar to above, if you’re not a full-time coder and/or designer, it’s highly advisable that you use some themes here or tools meant to do the job.
Tumblr media
Here’s a quick list of tools you could use:
SiteFunnels.com - disclaimer, this is our tool, but we love it and use it every day. It’s easy to use and handles both websites and funnels or both.
Unbounce - landing page/funnel builder software that’s easy to use and has lots of 3rd party integrations.
WordPress - for those a little more DIY, WordPress is used to power roughly 30% of the web, is open source, and only costs the price of your hosting. With the advent of drag and drop added to WordPress, non-coders can easily use this for websites and funnels. Though, there are a lot more settings and a steeper learning curve than the other options.
This isn’t a complete list of all the funnel tools, but these are our favorite. :)
When building your funnel, here are a few design and layout tips:
Ensure your main headlines are big, easy to read, and clear of distractions.
Use size, color, and spacing to draw attention to the most important parts of your copy and offer.
Use visual breakups, such as sections, boxes, images, bold, lists, colored text, headings, buttons, and more to make it appealing to read.
NOTE: If your funnel outline uses things like email, SMS, phone, chatbots, or others, then you’ll need to set up those systems as well. Just make sure the design and messaging are consistent when jumping from one channel to another like that so that the experience for the customer is seamless.
Step 5 - Test & Launch Your Funnel
Okay… so if you’re still with me, you should have a funnel ready to go out into the world. But, before we do, just a couple of other things you need to do.
Tumblr media
Install tracking software - Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Funnelytics (from above), and some marketing automation systems have software to be able to track your results. This is a critical component of your funnel. You need to measure the results.
Test your funnel - don’t go live without testing. You, a friend, someone you work with, etc. need to go through this funnel from start to end as a customer to ensure everything they see is what it’s supposed to be.
Turn on your traffic and launch!! - You’re ready to go, just activate your links, traffic, ads, or whatever is driving people to the front of your funnel and you’re ready to go!
Monitor and update - you want to watch this and ensure that the funnel is performing. If not, make tweaks until it is. However… you need to give it time to test.
Don’t think the first 20-100 visits to your funnel should be making you rich. Take your time, but be ready to adjust when needed.

Why Do I Like BTS
I wrote this on my other blog before I decided to make this special feature blog where I would put all of my interests.
On 31st October 2020:
------------------------------------------------------
It’s been exactly one month since I became a BTS fan. And my obsession has just become crazy recently, despite deliberately trying to avoid thinking about them. So I wanted to dig deep on why this group had this much effect on me, despite being an unlikely music choice against my taste.
I absolutely did not expect for this post to be so long! I guess I just had a lot to say, and I have to let it all out. That’s why I’m going crazy. Hope my brain gets better after writing.
How I Got Interested
I will never forget this video because this is the one that got me really interested in BTS (and Kpop after): Live performance of Dynamite - Bedroom Remix (https://youtu.be/liyn48Amjdw). I was just so impressed by a few things in this that I watched it so many times!
First of all, it was my first time listening to this song as a whole. First time listening to it live, too. It’s a very catchy song! This is my jam.
Jungkook’s whole intro - 1) His stable voice while doing the moonwalk and all that dancing. I knew Kpop artists can sing, I knew Kpop artists can dance, but to do both at the same time that well? It was very obvious that this was live singing, and yet his voice was so clean while dancing, and easy to listen to. (Tbh, I wasn’t all that impressed by the vocal line’s singing aside from him and Jimin, and surprisingly - Jhope, who is actually not part of the vocal line.) And 2) His stage presence. I really enjoyed watching him go through his whole part because it really seemed like he was having SO MUCH FUN!!! It just changed my view of kpop idols that screamed they are manufactured and they are stressed. Jungkook just really seemed to genuinely enjoy performing. Maybe his smile, as a handsome person, was also a slight factor, but I really think it was the energy he gave off. Tbh, this goes for all of them!
Subsequently after that, the members stood up one by one. RM impressed me with a rap that’s well done, particularly the way he said “this beat chaching like money” with a wink. (He’s was charismatic!) I don’t know, it could be just the song writing. Or it could be him. Again, the fun energy!
J-hope was next, and I was impressed by the way he delivered his part, especially the high pitch in “I’m diamond” and the riff in “you know I glow up.” I thought, wow, they’re all doing their parts so well, I did not expect this. (Also, RM’s “hey, so let’s go!” idk it’s so good.)
In fact, as the video progressed, you can see that it was not just Jungkook who was enjoying but all of them. All of the members did (except for SUGA and his constant poker face, even though I’m now a big SUGA stan). The way the members looked at whoever was performing was a look of great delight. And they supported each other’s lines with nice adlibs. It’s such a very positive fun, friendly, and brotherly energy.
Jimin’s solemn part came and it was just simply angelic. I have another note on this - Jimin. He was the only BTS member I knew of before this! I know him because I once saw a video on a guy spending thousands of dollars to look like him, saying he had the most perfect face of all. I was like, “Huh? He’s not even that handsome!” I also know him because he was mentioned in a TwoSet violin reaction video (me as an absolute TwoSet fan). Eddie is a Jimin fan! Anyway, Jimin’s part was absolutely angelic, and I didn’t expect it. I used to dislike the idea of being a fan of Jimin, cause he was being idolized for his visuals when he actually wasn’t the best in it (this was me before becoming a BTS fan), but I suddenly understood when I saw him perform. He was ADORABLE. It’s hard to hate him. Plus, his cute dance at the end.
The video just kept getting better with Jungkook’s high note. (I gotta say, Dynamite was really JK era.)
Anyway, I was so impressed by this performance. The caption of the friend who posted this was about “Taehyung” and I wanted to know what part of the video she was talking about. Who is Taehyung? On top of that, I wanted to know what Jungkook’s name was (and they look incredibly alike if you don’t know them), cause he was obviously my favorite in this video, so I tried to know all their names!
I googled all of them and Jin and V’s visuals were making me blush!!! That’s when I started to really try to get to know them by reading “BTS 101″ articles and watching more performances/music videos. SUGA’s part in the article was interesting, seeing how he went through financial struggles, and how he’s very vocal about society’s issues and his mental illnesses. It struck a chord in my heart.
I also looked out for their dance moves (in true kpop fashion) in their performances, and I was just blown away by the fact that it’s so well choreographed and well-performed, and they’re singing live on top of that. “ON” in Grand Central Terminal? Crazy! I personally liked Mic Drop too because it was my favorite from Sunny Funny Fitness’s Zumba (even though I didn’t know who BTS was). Also knew Boy With Luv from Zumba, so it wasn’t hard to listen to the song. And Spring Day was just familiar (probably from TwoSet violin).
Oh, I forgot, I’ve already seen their Carpool Karaoke with James Corden (as a carpool karaoke fan) a few times way before I knew them. I watched it more than once cause they’re so funny and it’s just interesting to see a kpop group in there.
Now that I’m looking back, I’m surprised to know I still remember this much detail about that fateful hour that got me into BTS mode.
It’s crazy cause now, I’m less focused on their performances, but on videos that show their personality and relationships.
Having Biases
My bias keeps changing: Jungkook (a charismatic performer) > V (as a good-looking cool kid, who apparently is an actual baby) > Jin (the good-looking, loving/kind, and crazy hyung who is also a fake maknae) > Maknae line (crackheads, fun and talented/aesthetically-pleasing bunch, including Jin) > Jungkook (idk he’s just cute, and considered golden maknae) > Suga (cool rap lines, wonderful opennes, hard work, talent, wisdom, etc) > RM (genius and best leader of kpop) > Rap Line (the OG writers that give depth to BTS songs), OT7 (they are all special in their own way), etc
Overall, I personally relate the most to Suga and Jungkook. Suga in his openness about mental issues and being a tired old man. Jungkook in having many interests and hobbies, also shyness. I am also not sure why but I definitely resonate with Jin’s personality too (definitely not the looks though, I’m not that gorgeous.)
The Effect
I want to talk about the effect of BTS on me, healthy and unhealthy:
The good thing they’ve brought me is my interest in exercise the week I became a fan. Suddenly, exercise became fun because it was dancing to their songs (Zumba) and listening to their songs while jogging.
Me comparing myself to them, but with a more positive effect - Seeing how they’ve achieved so much despite being young, I keep telling myself, I want to achieve more, too, and work hard like them. The truth is, I also think that if BTS meets me and sees my situation as a bum who just keeps watching videos all day long, it sounds really pathetic.
I am so inspired by their personality and friendship. Everybody appreciates and genuinely loves the others, with no competition. They’re all very humble, very honest, and very caring. It makes me want to be kind and love other people like that too.
I just keep watching their clips and Youtube videos about them. As I said, I love watching things showing their character and relationships. It’s a waste of time, really, but I can’t help it. I want to watch all of Run BTS, but now I’m trying not to. There came a point where I can’t work if I’m not also watching their clips in the background.
The obsession - I have been thinking about them a lot these days, especially Jungkook. It’s very weird. “What would Jungkook like?” It’s a very weird situation in my head. I started thinking what kind of girl he and the rest of BTS would like, and would like to ship them with the best and most talented girls in the world, if not me lol.
The negative side of comparing myself to them is wanting to be as talented as them or noticed by them, and focusing my thoughts around that, I guess. This includes wanting to live in a first world country like Korea, where life seems better and easier.
The Unlikely Music Choice
I’m not a Hip Hop fan! Anyone can tell, my vibe is mostly on the acoustic side. I am very much impressed by Suga’s rap and I love him for that, but the truth is, I don’t exactly know what good rap sounds like, because I barely heard any rap. The sound of BTS songs (both old and new) isn’t exactly the type that I would intentionally listen to (aside from the non-hiphop sounding ones). In fact, I only began to like Hip hop because of BTS.
I am also not a typical Kpop and dance fan. As I said, I’m more of an acoustic gal. I don’t value dancing skills as much as other people. I would put kpop in the lower part of my “upbeat songs” folder, which I would listen to for jogging. Again, I would never have intentionally listened to songs like Black Swan, Fire, and BST. Not my jam. But look at me now, impressed with them and I just don’t know why.
I said all these gaps in my interest, but now I started to genuinely enjoy the hip hop and kpop genre. I’ve even explored other groups.
Vocals - I am saying I don’t give a lot of value to dance, so I look at singing. But even in singing, they aren’t the best either. I don’t like Jin and V’s voices to be honest, I really mistook them for visuals who were just forced to sing. (It’s true for Jin. Hearing V’s opera voice changed this view, but I still don’t like his ordinary singing voice cause it sounds so muffled.) Jungkook is a great singer, but there are also guys better than him or at the same level as him in other groups, also good-looking, also good in dance. (Not sure about the dance part, cause I haven’t really seen other people’s performances, but I’m sure there are a lot more power vocals out there, like Exo guys or something.)
Talent (Instruments) - I’m totally an instruments person! I am always most impressed by singers/performers who are multi-talented, and play their own instruments - like Henry Lau (talent genius, I love him), and I know there are a lot more who aren’t noticed. But none of BTS are really all that great in instruments, though they’re starting to learn. Suga plays the piano, but he never really uses it in performances, so it is yet to truly impress me.
In terms of friendship, I haven’t seen other groups, but I heard they’re also close. IDK.
So why do I like them?
The Possible Reasons
I guess it’s that they are my first serious exposure to excellent dance performances in kpop. (I know now there are also other groups with synchronized and difficult dances, but back then, kpop groups’ dances that I know of did not make my jaw drop). Seriously, ON was so good. I guess it’s also the type of music they have that accentuates their incredible choreography and intense performance.
Their relationships with each other - Their brotherly love for each other is just so cute. From friendly banters, crackhead crazy moments, supporting each other (physically, mentally and emotionally) and even showing all their affection physically and verbally - it’s all very heartwarming. They truly love and appreciate one another and their togetherness.
They are crackheads and they all are genuinely nice people. I just love their stupid antics, Jin’s dad jokes, Jungkook’s banter, Maknae line’s mischief, and all their BTS craziness even from the hyung rap line.
On top of this, as it manifests in their relationships, they are really good-hearted men. They care about others, and are humble enough to talk issues through. Their synergy is really cool, seeing how they are all different people, but they work so well together, and I personally believe it’s because of their character.
Songwriting - I am a fan of actual artists - performers who make their own music, write and produce their own songs. Suga and RM’s (especially RM) writing makes BTS songs deep and speak volumes to people. The others have learned to create music too, so that’s nice. Honestly, I didn’t realize this until I heard people talk about this in the many comments I read. I didn’t know their songs had a lot of meaning. And I didn’t know they had that much involvement in their outputs. I just appreciate the idea that it has a lot of meaning, especially that they apparently speak about social issues that other kpop groups won’t talk about.
They’re good at other things too, like sports. Jungkook is just so fit. Suga is good in basketball. Jin is good in cooking. RM has a high IQ.
I guess they’re just so charismatic! Both on stage and off-stage!
Other people’s good word. A lot of promotions. Their personalities are also easily accessible. IDK.
Thinking about this and considering the possibility (and the fact) that there are many kpop groups and other musicians that are more handsome than them, more talented than them, and are also friendly with each other, I don’t know why I’m just that interested in checking them out. I guess I’ve filled my cup with a stan. Or maybe BTS has become too familiar, that they’ve become my comfort. Maybe getting to know other groups seems like another wave of extreme efforts, especially after seeing the effect it has on me.
I am a natural fan girl and addict. But I don’t think many musicians have impacted me like BTS did. (Even CN Blue, who fits the talent checklist in terms of instrument and songwriting, didn’t make me this obsessed.)
Oh well. It must be the promo being done by Big Hit. (I still like Bang PD for being a great CEO, giving the artists musical freedom and having more loose conditions for the idols than other companies.)
I sincerely hope writing all this quiets down my brain.
Nov Update: I’ve began to realize that the power of ARMYs are that strong because they are so effective in building a deep emotional connection to them. They have shown a lot of themselves in their different reality shows, and even in the way they are interviewed. Bighit really knows how to highlight one strong point about them - their great personalities. Getting to know them is both like becoming closer to friends and getting inspiration and learnings from icons. You get to have access to their inner thoughts and creative space. The way they speak and the message they put out also touches the hearts of many. On top of this, because they now work on a big budget, all their performances and productions are next level! Our jaw just drop because of the stage set ups and all that.
Additional observation: Upon watching other groups’ clips, I feel like BTS has a different kind of relationship with each other compared to them. While other groups obviously have fun and are very close, BTS are like family. They also have fun, but they are very expressive of their affection towards each other, not just verbally but also physically. They hug and touch each other randomly all the time, but I haven’t exactly seen other groups do that. So I guess there’s that.
Seven members is a good number - there is enough variety in personalities, but not too many that you don’t get to know each one enough/deeper. I feel like BTS members are a perfect fit for each other, each person has their own type of appeal. Other groups tend to have members that have similar vibes. But in BTS, there’s no duplicate, each one is so unique. RM is the charismatic, intelligent, socially-relevant leader, well-respected by everyone. Suga is the cool swag rapper with tsundere vibes, who also acts like a tired old man. Jhope is the fashionable dancer knows all the latest trends, who also brings a different flavor of rap. Jimin is the petite, “effeminate”, loving, angelic character with intense performance duality. V is the 4D personality who acts like a baby but gives a high fashion smize on stage/photo shoots. Jin is the super handsome and incredibly funny guy, but also acts like a mom to them. Jungkook is the youngest who beats his hyungs physically and is good at everything. There’s no duplicate! And what can I say, they really have the visuals!

News Katherine Johnson, ‘hidden figure’ at NASA during 1960s space race, dies at 101 - The Washington Post
Tumblr media
News
Her title, poached by the expertise that would possibly well per chance soon manufacture the providers of a great deal of her colleagues former, became once “computer.”
Mrs. Johnson, who died Feb. 24 at 101, went on to assemble equations that helped the NACA and its successor, NASA, send astronauts into orbit and, later, to the moon. In 26 signed reports for the effect company, and in many extra papers that bore others’ signatures on her work, she codified mathematical suggestions that dwell on the core of human effect jog.
She became once now not the first unlit woman to work as a NASA mathematician, nor the first to write down a analysis myth for the company, however Mrs. Johnson became once within the end acknowledged as a pathbreaker for ladies and African People within the newly created field of spaceflight.
Treasure most on the help of the scenes participants of the effect program, Mrs. Johnson became once overshadowed within the celebrated imagination by the lifestyles-risking astronauts whose flights she calculated, and to a lesser extent by the division heads beneath whom she served.
She failed to allege mainstream attention until President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the country’s most sensible probably civilian honor — in 2015. The next year, her analysis became once notorious in doubtlessly one of the most sensible-promoting e book “Hidden Figures” by Margot Lee Shetterly and the Oscar-nominated film adaptation starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe.
Mrs. Johnson became once “vital to the success of the early U.S. effect functions,” Bill Barry, NASA’s chief historian, mentioned in a 2017 interview for this obituary. “She had a unique mind, curiosity and skill position in mathematics that allowed her to fabricate many contributions, every of that would possibly well per chance very neatly be thought to be well-known of a single lifetime.”
A math prodigy from West Virginia who mentioned she “counted every thing” as a child — “the steps to the road, the steps up to church, the will of dishes and silverware I washed” — Mrs. Johnson worked as a schoolteacher sooner than being employed as a computer on the NACA’s flight analysis division, essentially based at Langley Study Middle in Hampton, Va.
The company became once established in 1915 and started enlisting white ladies to work as computers 20 years later. Sunless computers, assigned mainly to segregated providers, like been first employed all over the labor scarcity of World Battle II. Mrs. Johnson became once one of about 100 computers, roughly one-third of whom like been unlit, when she joined the NACA.
The movie “Hidden Figures” took occasional liberties with truth to stress the indignities of segregation. Mrs. Johnson, performed by Henson, is forced to bustle half of a mile to attain the “colored” lavatory. Essentially, Mrs. Johnson mentioned, she used the loo closest to her desk.
“I failed to essentially feel worthy discrimination, however then that’s me,” she recalled in a 1992 NASA oral ancient past. When she detected hints of racism, equivalent to when a white colleague stood up to leave as soon as she sat down, she mentioned, she tried to now not answer. “I don’t keep on my emotions on my shoulder. So I bought along magnificent.”
Mrs. Johnson had a bachelor’s level in mathematics and spent her early occupation studying knowledge from plane crashes, serving to devise air security standards at a time when the company’s central tell became once aviation. Then, in October 1957, the launch of the Soviet satellite tv for computer Sputnik thrust the effect bustle into corpulent tilt.
Mrs. Johnson and dozens of work-mates wrote a 600-page technical myth titled “Notes on Condo Expertise” outlining the mathematical underpinnings of spaceflight, from rocket propulsion to orbital mechanics and warmth security.
Regarded as one of rocket science’s most vexing challenges, they soon realized, became once calculating flight trajectories to make certain that astronauts returned safely to Earth, splashing down within the ocean reasonably stop to a Navy vessel waiting to pluck them from the water.
For astronauts equivalent to Alan B. Shepard Jr., who grew to turn into the first American in effect when Freedom 7 launched on Would possibly per chance well furthermore 5, 1961, the math became once moderately straight forward. Shepard’s craft rose and fell, love a champagne cork, without entering orbit.
Calculating the trajectory for an orbital flight, equivalent to the one to be undertaken by Marine pilot John Glenn in 1962, became once “orders of magnitude extra complex,” mentioned Shetterly, the “Hidden Figures” author.
“I mentioned, ‘Let me assemble it,’ ” Mrs. Johnson recalled in a 2008 NASA interview. “You expose me whenever you happen to want it and where you would like it to land, and I’ll assemble it backwards and expose you when to use off.”
Mrs. Johnson’s findings, outlined in a 1960 paper she wrote with engineer Ted Skopinski, enabled engineers to resolve exactly when to launch a spacecraft and when to originate its reentry. The paper, “Option of Azimuth Perspective at Burnout for Inserting a Satellite tv for computer Over a Selected Earth Set,” marked the first time a lady wrote a technical myth in NASA’s elite flight analysis division.
“That it's probably you'll work your teeth out, however you didn’t gather your name on the parable,” she mentioned within the 1992 oral ancient past, crediting her step forward to what she described as an assertive personality. When a superior mentioned that she would possibly well per chance now not accompany male colleagues to a briefing related to her work, Mrs. Johnson requested, “Is there a regulations that says I'm able to’t wander?” Her boss relented.
Mrs. Johnson’s handwritten calculations like been mentioned to love been extra depended on than these performed by mainframe computers. A short time sooner than Glenn launched into effect, he requested engineers to “gather the girl to test the numbers.”
“Your whole ladies like been called ‘the ladies,’ ” mentioned Barry, “and everyone knew exactly which woman he became once talking about.” Mrs. Johnson, who became once then 43, spent a day and a half of checking the trajectory calculations made by the IBM computer sooner than giving the wander-forward to Glenn, who grew to turn into the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth.
In a subsequent myth, Mrs. Johnson took her calculations one step extra, working with a whole lot of colleagues to resolve how a spacecraft would possibly well per chance circulation inner and out of a planetary body’s orbit. Her formulas like been well-known to the success of the Apollo lunar program and are silent in expend on the brand new time, Barry mentioned. “If we return to the moon, or to Mars, we’ll be the expend of her math.”
Modest beginnings
Katherine Coleman became once born in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., then a town of about 800, on Aug. 26, 1918. Her mother became once a aged instructor. She credited her proclivity for mathematics to her father, a farmer who had worked within the fade enterprise and would possibly well per chance like a flash calculate the will of boards a tree would possibly well per chance gather.
By 10, Katherine had executed your whole coursework supplied at her town’s two-room schoolhouse. Joined by her mother and her three older siblings, she moved to Institute, a suburb of the instruct capital, to help the laboratory college of West Virginia Inform School whereas her father remained at home to make stronger the household.
Mrs. Johnson went on to search at West Virginia Inform, a historically unlit college, with plans to valuable in French and English and turn into a instructor. A mathematics professor — W.W. Schiefflin Claytor, broadly reported to be the third African American to receive a doctorate in math — persuaded her to interchange fields.
Mrs. Johnson later recalled his announcing: “You’d manufacture a merely analysis mathematician, and I’m going to stare that you just’re ready.” She had never heard of the win 22 situation sooner than. “I mentioned, ‘The effect will I gather a job?’ And he mentioned, ‘That will probably be your tell.’ ”
After graduating in 1937, at 18, she taught at a segregated main college in Marion, Va., a town come the North Carolina border.
Three years later, she became once one of three unlit college students selected to integrate West Virginia University’s graduate functions. She dropped out of her master’s in mathematics program after one semester to originate a household along with her husband, James Goble, a chemistry instructor. She later returned to instructing, in West Virginia, sooner than a brother-in-regulations instructed she observe for a computer win 22 situation at Langley.
Goble died of cancer in 1956, and three years later Mrs. Johnson married James Johnson, an Navy artillery officer. He died in 2019.
Mrs. Johnson’s demise became once confirmed by lawyer and household handbook Donyale Y.H. Reavis, who mentioned she died at home in Newport News, Va., however failed to quote a particular reason.
Survivors include two daughters from her first marriage, Joylette Hylick of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Katherine Moore of Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren; and 11 sizable-grandchildren. Her daughter Constance Garcia died in 2010.
Mrs. Johnson became once invited to circulation to Houston within the mid-1960s to wait on set what's now the Lyndon B. Johnson Condo Middle, however she declined the supply to help her household’s ties to the Hampton neighborhood, Shetterly mentioned.
At Langley, where she retired in 1986, she performed calculations that sure the enlighten 2nd at which the Apollo lunar lander would possibly well per chance leave the moon’s ground to attain to the allege module, which remained in orbit high above. She also contributed to NASA’s effect shuttle and Earth satellite tv for computer functions.
After the launch of “Hidden Figures,” Mrs. Johnson performed down the significance of her impartial within the early years of the effect program. “There’s nothing to it — I became once merely doing my job,” she instructed The Washington Post in 2017.
“They wished knowledge, and I had it, and it didn’t topic that I came across it,” she added. “At the time, it became once merely a inquire of and an answer.”
