🐇 February is “Adopt A Rescued Rabbit” month! Throughout the month, we’ll be featuring our adoptable bunnies, and promoting proper rabbit care. Chestnut is a super cute bunny who would love to come home with you! Here’s a note from Chestnut’s foster family: “Chestnut is a friendly, sweet girl who would thrive in a quiet home with lots of space. Chestnut loves exploring outside her enclosure and sniffing whatever new scent she comes upon. She’s curious, brave and shows no fear while socializing with her feline housemate. Chestnut gets a bit of a scare whenever the heat comes on and she’ll start thumping but she’s facing her fear. Chestnut loves fresh veggies / fruit and has enjoyed spinach, cilantro, carrots, bananas and raspberries. She isn’t a fan of cuddles, but happily accepts all the pats. Chestnut is still a young rabbit and will likely adapt well to any loving environment.” All our adoptable rabbits have been spayed or neutered, and have been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV). Our fostered bunnies live in spacious puppy pens, or are free roaming (cage-free) in bunny proofed rooms. All our rabbits are litter box trained. Velvety bunny rescue! Prue was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by her owners because they were traveling outside the country. Poor Prue’s nails were severely overgrown when she arrived at the shelter, and she was very confused about what was happening to her. Hamilton Animal Services had Prue spayed and they made her available for adoption. Nobody came forward to adopt Prue, and with more and more rabbits coming in, the shelter asked us for help. Thankfully, we were able to get Prue out of the shelter and into a loving, bunny-experienced foster home. Prue is loving all the space she now has. She’s a very friendly rabbit, and she loves cuddling. She’s a gem of a bunny! Prue has a vet visit coming up to be sure she’s healthy enough to be made available for adoption. Penelope update! Poor Penelope has an abscess in her mouth and a tooth that is giving her trouble. No wonder she didn't want to eat! She'll have surgery on Tuesday that will hopefully take care of the issue. For now, Penelope is on pain meds, antibiotics, and she's still being force fed. She's not happy about any of this, but she was a grumpy bunny to begin with, so her foster family are used to it. 😝 Our fingers are crossed that the surgery will go well. Go Penelope! AGE AT ARRIVAL: Approximately 7 months old ARRIVAL DATE: December 17th, 2022 GENDER: Spayed Female ADOPTION FEE: $150 NOTES: When she was only about 4 months old, someone abandoned Chestnut next to a dumpster. Hamilton Animal Services was called and they took Chestnut in. Chestnut was spayed while she was at the shelter, but because she later developed an issue with what was thought to be blood in her urine, HAS reached out to us for help. We were happy to get Chestnut out of the shelter and into a loving foster home when one opened up. When she arrived to her foster home, it was clear Chestnut was very happy to be in a large enclosure, away from the noise and bustle of the shelter. Chestnut had a vet visit, and it turns out what was thought to be blood, was just dark coloured urine. She was given a clean bill of health, and she’s now ready to find a forever home! Gerbil rescue! When Spice’s cage mate passed away, their owner decided they didn’t want to get another gerbil to be friends with Spice, so they surrendered him to Hamilton Animal Services. We were happy to take Spice in, and we had him neutered shortly after his arrival. Gerbils need to be in pairs or groups, so our intention is to try to find him a home where there is another lone gerbil who needs a friend. Spice is doing great in his foster home so far. Bunny rescue! Buddy came into Hamilton Animal Services with another rabbit. Technically they were strays, but it’s more likely they were dumped. Unfortunately, Buddy and the other rabbit (Tyson) got into a squabble that ended with Tyson being injured, so the shelter separated them. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Buddy out of the small cage he was in at the shelter, and into a loving foster home where he has much more space. Buddy is doing well in his foster home so far, and he’s soaking up all the love, attention and tasty snacks his foster family are giving him. Buddy will be available for adoption soon! Bunny rescue! Tyson came into Hamilton Animal Services with another rabbit. Technically they were strays, but it’s more likely they were dumped. Unfortunately, Tyson and the other rabbit got into a squabble, and Tyson ended up with injuries to his genitals and bum. Because there is no vet on staff at the shelter, they reached out to us for help. We were lucky enough to be able to get Tyson to see a rabbit specialist vet so he could have his injures treated and he could be neutered. The surgery was a bit tricky because of where the injuries were, but Tyson got through it, and he did well during the few days he spent at the vet for observation. Tyson is now enjoying being cage-free at his foster home. Though he’s not thrilled about taking the medication he needs, he’s eating, pooping, and hopping around like nothing happened. His foster home even saw him get the zoomies the day after he arrived in their home. :) Tyson will be made available for adoption once he’s healed from his surgery. Welcome to Ladybird, Tyson! They were beyond frightened when they were brought to Hamilton Animal Services and it took quite a while for them to learn to trust the staff there. The shelter had Thelma and Louise spayed, and after a few months, we were finally able to rescue this bunny pair and place them into a loving foster home. These two adorable girls were given a clean bill of health at their vet visit, and now they’re ready to find their forever home! We’re asking they be adopted as a pair. Thelma and Louise are a lot of fun. They come running to greet you whenever you come into the room, and they’ll nudge your legs with their noses to say hello. When they know it’s snack time, they’ll both stand up on their hind legs to get a better look at what veggies you have to offer. It’s very cute! They are currently living cage-free in a large, rabbit proofed room, and they love having all the space to run and play. We are hoping their forever home can offer them the same free-roaming life. It took a few days for them to use their litter boxes 100%, but they’re champs at it now. It may take their new home a few tries with box placement to keep them consistent, but they’ll figure it out. Thelma and Louise are not cuddly bunnies (yet) and they still mostly shy away from petting, but they’re getting better at accepting affection from humans every day. As they’re still somewhat shy, a quiet home without small children would be best for them. Bunny rescue! Crumpet arrived at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. He had an abscess on his jaw, so shelter staff sent him to the vet to be checked out. The vet did a minor surgery on the abscess, and they sent him back to the shelter to wait out his stray time. Unfortunately, Crumpet was not claimed by his owner, and the surgery and medication didn’t work to fix the abscess. 👎 HAS staff reached out to us for help, and we were happy to take this sweet guy in. Crumpet’s foster home reports that he’s the sweetest bunny! He loves everyone and is a very well behaved boy. Crumpet has an appointment coming up to be neutered and to more thoroughly examine the abscess to figure out next steps to clear it up. We’ll have an update for you after his vet visit.
