as he finished the last sentence on the letter he was sending y/n before they got married, a private vow swap as they like to call it, his hand was shaking more than it has before any football game he’s ever played in.

he handed his brother the letter and took a breath as y/ns sister knocked on the door

josh opened it, y/s (your sister) smiled and handed josh the letter. “your so handsome josh, she’s gonna cry”

“i’m gonna cry. and puke” josh said, running his hand through his hair. “josh no! don’t ruin your hair” jason, josh’s brother, said

Josh was beyond nervous to read the letter, or for y/n to read her letter. “josh, read the letter” jason said, putting his hand on josh’s shoulder. “if y/n wasn’t a hundred and ten percent sure about the both of you she wouldn’t have stayed with you ten years. i know i would’ve left you 10 years ago” he joked.

josh took a breath, opening the letter.

Not gonna lie you are a butt munch and i want to punch you all the time. i can not wait to want to punch you everyday of the rest of my life. you are my everything, and i thank you for letting me find myself and my career, and now i get to work with you and be with you for the rest of forever. i really do love you so so much. except i actually hate you, love you babes :)

Josh felt the burning in the back of his throat. he shook his head with a bright smile. “jason, i really love her” josh said, folding the letter and putting it in his bag.

“i know you do josh, it’s time to go see her”

Josh stood, smoothing out his suit, and fixing his hair. “i’m seriously going to vomit” josh said, standing in front of the door.

“your telling me, when you open this door, my girl is going to be standing outside of the other door in a beautiful dress that i havnt seen and that’s the last time i’ll ever see her as my girlfriend?” jason laughed. “your both gonna be blind folded” he explained, putting the blind fold on josh’s eyes. “when y/n says, you’ll both take your blind folds off” josh nodded, completely sightless “in less than an hour she’s gonna be your wife” josh was holding his breath trying not to cry.

jason stood at the door with his hand on the knob. “ready josh?” josh nodded “i can’t wait” so jason opened the door, and josh stepped out of it.

“hi joshy” y/n said. y/n hadn’t told josh that she wasn’t blind folded, she had a surprise.

josh had a bag in his pocket, they were doing a present exchange. a forever gift as y/n has been calling it. josh reached his hand out. “y/n” he whispered under his breath, he didn’t know how to talk. “y/n baby, i love you” he said as she took his hand into her own. “i can’t believe we’re getting married today” y/n said, as her sister and jason went back into seperate rooms, leaving the two alone.

y/n wasn’t blindfolded, josh didn’t know.

“josh i want to open your present first” she said, her finger running over his hand “can you see me?” she giggled “yeah” josh scoffed “you suck!” he laughed, smiling at his future wife. he reached into his pocket and pulled out the small bag.

it was a small locket, y/n opened it, looking at the pictures inside of it. “joshy…” the pictures where the two of them in her college dorm, and the two of them on their first date at his football game. “this is beautiful” she whispered under her breath.

after skillfully putting the locket on, wanting it for the wedding, and she put her hand on josh’s face. “i’m gonna take your blindfold off josh” he smiled. “i want to see my beautiful girl”

she pulled off his blind fold and his mouth fell open. “y/n…” he looked at his fiancé, studying her entire body. “it’s so beautiful, your so so beautiful” his eyes welled with tears. “i’m gonna vomit” he said, making y/n almost fall over from laughing.

josh was full on face full of tears, “i never saw myself being married to anyone.” he held both her hands. “but the second i saw you in your bummed out clothes and your messy hair all i could think about was marrying you one day.” he pulled one hand up and wiped his tears away. “i am so happy, because,” he took a breath because of a sob irrupting from his throat. y/n pulled him into a hug. he buried his head into her shoulder. “do not ruin my dress joshua!” she laughed, hugging him close. “i’m so happy because i found the person who is going to grow old with me.” he looked up from the hug, putting his hand on her cheek. “and you are the most beautiful girl in the entire world

y/n” y/n smiled, then her eyes brightened up “josh!” she giggled, letting go of his hands and putting them into her dress. “it has pockets!!” she showed, twirling around with happiness as she remembered the main reason she bought this dress

“oh yeah” she then pulled out a stick, not wrapped, not bagged, just the stick it’s self, placing it into his hand.

“no your kidding” josh said, as he realized what she just placed in his hand. “this is your present?” his hands began to shake. “Y/n your joking, like this is really fake” his eyes welled with tears again, and y/ns did as well

“we’re having a baby josh” she whispered, he looked up into her eyes. “i’m gonna be a dad” she nodded, and he pulled her into a big hug. as josh cried, holding y/n, jason and y/s walked into the hall. “it’s time” y/s said, josh let go of y/n, kissing her cheek.

“i’ll see you at the alter beautiful”

y/n smiled, watching her future husband walk out of the room with jason, and she saw the exact moment josh told jason he was goin go to be a dad. josh turned once more to look at his fiancé one last time as his fiancé “i’m gonna puke right now”

It's fine to be disappointed about not seeing the Lords, but dear God stop shitting on the DLC because of it. Just because you wanted to see them doesn't mean it was gonna happen. This DLC isn't about the Lords, and it never was. It's about Rose. It's about her journey to accepting her powers, accepting that she's a little weird but it's worth it because she can do cool things and she has the best dad ever. Overcoming her insecurities, learning to care for herself and know she's worth love because Ethan loves her so fucking much. It's about Rose learning more about herself. It's about Rose getting to talk to her dad, just once. Getting to hear him say "I love you". It's about Rose learning more about the events that led to her father sacrificing himself to save her, which she was apparently never told. It's about Rose gaining confidence in herself, in her abilities. It's about Rose finding a passion to fight back, to survive, to not conform. It was never about the Lords.

Lovely start to the new QI season yesterday. That show can obviously be up and down just with the sheer volume of episodes, but Bill Bailey and Alan Davies are always a winning combination. I could watch those two just interact with each other all day. Also, I did not realize how much I had missed Our Lord and Saviour Sandra Toksvig.

The other nice thing about the beginning of this season is unlike the previous one, I don’t have to spend every episode wondering if they’ll somehow work a snake into the theme. We are finally past the dreaded season S. And the S-Animals episode, which I’d known was coming someday since the very beginning, and when the lineup was finally released, I was pleased to see Josh Widdicombe on it, because he’s scared of everything and would cower from the snakes with me. And then he didn’t even do that! Which I know because I watched that episode while at my parents’ place over Christmas, and my mother kept up a running commentary on what was happening on the screen while I held a pillow in front of my eyes, and apparently Josh was having no trouble looking at all the terrifying snakes on the screen. He spent all those Last Leg road trip through Australia episodes freaking out at the same times that I did when I thought a snake might be about to appear, but apparently is just fine with pictures in a studio. What I needed for solidarity in that one was Tom Allen, who covered his eyes just like I did at the images of rattlesnakes during the previous season’s R-Animals episode, and explained that it was due to a phobia of snakes. I’ve always thought of Tom Allen as basically fine but not special, except during that episode when I said, “Yes thank you Tom, you will be my best friend for the next 45 minutes and we will get through this together.”

Anyway. The point is that I can’t even think of any types of snakes that start with T, so in this season, I don’t have to have that problem! And I am aware that now that I’ve written that, it means episode two, which is called T-Animals, will heavily feature the rare Tchrydactyl type of snake that can fucking fly and swim and stike at you through a laptop screen. But at least they’re getting that episode done early this season, hopefully smooth sailing from there.

...I spend an inordinate amount of mental energy while watching QI on wondering whether they could possibly connect a snake to a given topic. But they didn’t get one of those on the Tips and Tools episode, just fun riffs about Bill Bailey’s (reptile-free, as far as I know) zoo.

Dykes to Watch Out For; Sacred Scandal; In Our Own World Second Season

Comic Strip “Dykes to Watch Out For,” now a podcast  Alison Bechdel’s comic strip Dykes To Watch Out For became a countercultural institution among lesbians and discerning non-lesbians all over the planet.

Now, Alison Bechdel’s Dykes to Watch Out For, the award-winning cartoonist’s iconic comic strip that ran from 1983 - 2008, was just released as an episodic podcast in partnership with Audible. The podcast is led by a queer cast in time for Pride Month. Featuring stars like Jane Lynch, Carrie Brownstein, Roxane Gay, Roberta Colindrez, Jenn Colella, and more, with a script by Madeleine George and direction by Leigh Silverman, all episodes of Dykes to Watch Out For are available to stream now. “I am blown away by this podcast; it’s such a great gift to hear the characters and their world come to audio life, talking and kvetching and playing softball and going to marches,” said Bechdel. "Dykes to Watch Out For is smart and political and just great storytelling - like Charles Dickens meets Audre Lorde, with a dash of lesbian pulp fiction thrown in. Second Season of Sacred Scandal podcast premieres

A sad commentary on modern times is that church scandals are too frequent and appear to infect multiple religions. One of the best such podcasts is Sacred Scandal, which was named one of Podtrac’s Best New Podcasts of 2022. Its second season focuses on Mexico-based megachurch La Luz del Mundo (Light of the World) and Naasón Joaquín García, a self-proclaimed apostle, who is currently behind bars after being convicted of sexually abusing girls from his congregation. He is currently serving a nearly 17-year sentence, but maintains his innocence. Host and investigative journalist Roberta Garza explores Naasón's control over a multitude of devotees, some of whom now describe their experiences in the church as "pure evil." In this true-crime series, survivors share stories about this powerful religious leader and the alleged sexual abuse that followed, many relating to minors. Tune in Thursdays.

Under Our Black Cult: North American Tour 2023 - Rotting Christ Returns to The Masquerade!

Well-known and legendary Greek black/gothic metal juggernauts Rotting Christ (and personal favorites of mine) were back touring stateside on their Under Our Black Cult North American Tour with opening support from Carach Angren, UADA, & Gaerea. Originally named Black Church (c. 1984) and renamed later to Rotting Christ in 1987 when brothers Sakis Tolis (vocals/guitars) and Themis Tolis (drums) joined the band. Rotting Christ is considered one of the first black metal bands to come from the Mediterranean Region. They are also responsible for influencing the black metal community in Greece during the onset of their career in the 1990s. Currently, the band consists of Sakis Tolis (vocals/guitars), Themis Tolis (drums), Kostas “Spades” Heliotis (bass/backing vocals), and Kostis Foukarakis (guitar/backing vocals). They have released thirteen (13) LPs, one (1) EP, and numerous demos/compilations/DVDs over their historic musical career.

Their latest release, The Heretics (2019), is an incredible album and deserves more attention even years after its release. The underlining theme for this album focuses on renowned literary icons, poets, and authors who were considered “heretics” during their lifetime, such as Mark Twain, Friedrich Nietzsche, Thomas Paine, and Edgar Allen Poe. If you are going to listen to Rotting Christ for the first time, I suggest listening to their live album, Lucifer Over Athens, as your starting point. I believe this highlights Rotting Christ’s ability to create a symphonic journey through their melodic yet often very shadowy lyrics. The set list used for this album will make any fan of Rotting Christ salivate to witness live, especially seeing them live at a hometown show in Athens, Greece. Carach Angren is a symphonic black/horror metal band from Landgraaf, Netherlands that formed as a band in 2003 by Dennis “Seregor” Droomers (lead vocals/guitars) and Clemens “Ardek” Wijers (keyboards/backing vocals). While on tour, Bastiaan “The Butcher” Boh joins the band to play guitar as well. The band has released six (6) LPs, one (1) EP, and one (1) demo. Their latest album, Franckensteina Strataemontanus” was released in November 2020 and retells the age-old story of Johann Konrad Dippel, which inspired Mary Shelly’s novel ‘Frankenstein’.

UADA (Latin for “haunted”) is a melodic black metal band from Portland, Oregon that formed in 2014. UADA consists of James Sloan (guitars), James Superchi (vocals/guitars), Nate Verschoor (bass), and Josh Lovejoy (drums). UADA has released three (3) LPs with Djinn being the latest release from 2020. As the only stateside black metal act on this tour, UADA proved to everyone why Rotting Christ invited them to perform on the Under Our Black Cult Tour. What started to be a difficult stage setting to photograph with the low lights and heavy smoke, turned into an exquisitely, dark, and intimate performance by UADA.

Fellow Season of Mist label mates, Gaerea is a post-black metal band from Porto, Portugal that formed in 2016. The band consists of Guilherme Henriques (vocals/guitars), Lucas Ferrand (bass), and Diogo Mota (drums). Gaerea has released three (3) LPs, one (1) EP, and three (3) singles. They are touring in support of their latest release, Mirage (2022). Also, something worth noting is that the Under Our Black Cult Tour was Gaerea’s first time playing in the United States and Canada. The stage presence of Gaerea is something to behold and had this Concerthopper enthralled as soon as they took the stage. I was not that familiar with the music of Carach Angren or Gaerea before this tour. That would change very fast once the lights went out before Gaerea’s formidable and stunning opening set.
