I don’t really do the G1 thing and I only have two, but the two I do have are some of my favorite dragons to date.  The Ridgeback is named Widower and the Wildclaw is called Zeal. Both of them are witches in the same coven who reside in a place known as Quod Labyrinthus (The Labyrinth). Their true names are unknown as names carry power and could potentially be used against them. The two of them are as old as the Wasteland and were born during its creation, starting out as a mere glimmer in the eye of the Plaguebringer and eventually growing into the powerful dragons they are today.  The land in which they live is as much a part of them as they are of it and those who become lost in the Labyrinth soon become a part of it, mutating into monsters whose soul purpose is to protect the witches and the land responsible for their demise. Widower and Zeal struggle for power over the coven from time to time, however Zeal has yet to best Widower and as such he’s remained their leader for as long as anyone can remember.  Each of the witches rule over their own corner of the labyrinth and the land there has twisted and changed to fit their particular brand of magic. Widower and Zeal own the two largest parts of the land and to venture into their territory is thought to be certain death. Though, if you’re brave enough to try, you could theoretically make your way through the horrors and fetid landscape if you seek the power and knowledge they hold. But you’ll have to escape the monsters and survive several trials before you can even hope to stand before them.

Decided to make a separate post for Zeal, my 4yr old G1 WC. If you’ve been keeping up with my most recent posts then you already know that he’s a part of Quod  Labyrinthus, an ancient and powerful coven of witches. They’re worshipped as deities by my new faction Menn Náttúrunnar (which should roughly translate to ‘men of the wilds’). Zeal is the witch of war, a title which he proudly brandishes. His magic is firmly rooted in his physical strength and his ability to conjure deadly magical weapons from thin air (think battlemage). These weapons are made from his own mana and have an otherworldly appearance to them. The cleaver at his side is rarely used in battle and is a remnant from days long past, little more than a decoration now. Occasionally he and Widower will reminisce about the days before they created Quod Labyrinthus, back when they roamed the Wasteland in the infancy of their power.  If the ghostly weapons aren’t enough to give you pause, then perhaps the magical field which drains the life from his opponents will. The longer you fight, the more it drains you and replenishes his own health. However, there is a catch to this: each time he casts the spell it drains a little piece of his mana. In theory you might be able to wear him down long enough to win this way, but no one has ever managed to do this; nor are they foolish enough to try.  The Menn Náttúrunnar pray to Zeal and bring offerings to his shrine before each and every battle. They worship him as the spirit of war and it’s thought that if they make an offering (typically a blood offering of some sort) then their chances for victory in battle increase greatly. The berserkers in the clan in particular favor Zeal and paint their faces to resemble the war paint that Zeal wears beneath his helmet. Speaking of the face beneath the helmet, Zeal is known for his devilishly handsome good looks. It’s rare that he removes his helmet for anyone but his coven when they convene in the center of Quod Labyrinthus every full moon, but there are plenty of people who have claimed to catch a glimpse and the Menn Náttúrunna have paintings depicting him without said helmet.  There’s more that I’d like to add, but this post is long enough as it is so I’ll be saving it for future lore posts! ;)

Y’all mind if I ramble about my witches some more?
In order we have Dove, Snakeroot, and Moss. All three of them are part of the coven lead by Widower (and to a lesser extent Zeal) and live in Quod Labyrinthus (The Labyrinth). Seeing as I’m going into what their theme/magic is here and didn’t in the post (this one) about those two, I’ll also quickly add that Widower’s is death and Zeal’s is war (more on that later). Slight warning for some brief gross stuff in Snakeroot’s description.  Dove is a master of illusion and his domain in The Labyrinth reflects that. Is that a rabbit you see or a poisonous snake in disguise? When in Dove’s territory you cannot trust your senses. He has named himself Dove because of the birds that gather around his home. This is also an illusion and those “doves” are actually death seekers. He is soft spoken, handsome, and comes off very welcoming and kind- do not let this deceive you, he is just as dangerous as the rest of the coven.  Snakeroot is the master of flesh and disease. She can hex you with all kinds of nasty illnesses and if that’s not bad enough she can also pull your entrails out through your mouth with a look. Her domain is fetid and incredibly hard to stomach. Walls of flesh reach out towards you with meaty tendrils hoping to pull you in and make you a part of the decor. Snakeroot is anything but soft spoken and her appearance is horrifying and monstrous. One look at her and you know you’ve stepped into a nightmare. Good luck getting away from her unscathed, she’s not friendly. Last we have Moss. Moss is different from the others in that her magic is centered around life. She is a necromancer and her domain is alive with plants, animals, flowers, and is much more peaceful than her brother and sister’s domains. That said, there are dangers here as well. Carnivorous plants snap at your ankles, the larger ones seek to grab you with their vines and make you a tasty snack. Moss has the appearance of a very beautiful woman and the only thing off about her at first glance is that the right side of her face is mostly bone. Consider yourself lucky if you stumble into her domain, you’re much more likely to survive without any lasting effects from your journey into The Labyrinth.
