Your Physical Glow Up
Tumblr media
Most of us when trying to level up are very excited to work on the physical aspect. I know I am. I'm excited about finally getting my dream body, skin, and hair. I have been working so hard this month on being intentional with my habits so I can attain my goals. So in today's blog post, I want to break down the things you should focus on to enhance your physical appearance I will be making more in-detail blog posts about each point<3.
Diet
This is the most important thing to me that we should all focus on whether you are trying to lose weight, gain weight, or maintain. Your diet can affect a lot. Having a bad diet can affect your gut health causing uncomfortable bloating it can affect your skin giving you bad acne and so many other issues. Depending on your goal try to find a diet that best fits what you're going for that can be intuitive eating, vegan, paleo, keto, or whatever other diets you might want to follow. Watch YouTube videos do your research on the diets also find out how many calories you should be eating daily. Always consult your doctor especially if you have medical issues. WATER I know some girlies aren’t big fans of water lol but you need water! I wish I could put a bigger emphasis on the need for water it's a must especially when it comes to your skin and overall body health. If you don't like drinking water you can put lemons or other fruits in your water. My favorite item to use to give my water a boost of flavor is flavored packets they sell them every where and they are very low in calories ranging from 0-10 Cals. Finally, your gut health I know you have been hearing about this all over tik tok this topic is so deep ill be making a separate post for it but yes gut health is so important it can affect our physical appearance causing us to look bloated or inflamed. So do your research on how to improve your gut health and expect a post soon <3.
Exercise
Get your body moving babe! Exercise can be fun find a form of exercise that makes you feel good and that you enjoy. I think the reason why a lot of us do not enjoy working out is because we are doing what everyone else is doing instead of doing what makes us happy. Some people might love HIIT workouts and you might like something more low-impact like pilates and the next girl could like walking 5 miles every day. Figure out what best suits you dibble and dabble in different forms of exercise. And yes I know sometimes we will have to do exercise we don’t like to get a certain look I recently started weight training at first I did not like it but now I love ittt! It makes me feel so good and I have been seeing results and the more results I see the harder I want to go in the gym. Also, you do not have to pay for memberships to be able to do pilates and yoga YouTube has a lot of amazing women who will get you right. So look at your goals figure out what aligns with them and be consistent.
Rest
Sleep is very important and the most overlooked. You need to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Start training your body to sleep more no more late nights. Of course, staying up here and there is understandable but you shouldn’t be staying up and going to sleep by 3 am every single day. Take it easy allow yourself to rest! Do not overwork yourself to achieve your goals. With patience, you will reach your goals in the blink of an eye, and you’ll be where you want to be.
Skincare
First figure out what skincare type you have and the type of products that are best for your skin. I have hyperpigmentation and dark spots it's not extremely bad but I do not like it and would like my skin to be one color and clear. So I did some research on what I could try to get the skin that I wanted. I recently started using Kojic acid, Cosrx, MediCube, and Neutrogena. Also, sunscreen is important for all of us to use. I'm a black girl if you haven't realized yet lol but growing up I heard black people do not need sunscreen yesss we do! I recently started getting into anti-aging skin care as well still doing my research. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be youthful you can't stop aging but you can slow it down.
These were the basic things to focus on when trying to physically level up if you want me to go more in-depth let me know. I'll be making posts on each separately over the next couple of weeks.
I'm open to any comments or private messages if you can relate and please let me know any further topics you want me to cover<3

Sounds weird but I’m trying to lose weight after becoming basically very fat from pandemic and mental health issues and just wondering if you and others have any workout recommendations or tips ? I will do it all safely and I eat properly too!
So I gained some weight as well during the pandemic. Here are some things that helped me get back on track.
I bought a Peloton bike, however the app is amazing and I downloaded it to my TV to do other exercises. I also have a Fit Bit to keep track of my steps/exercise. I also make sure to take the dog on a 2 mile walk 3-4x per week...used to be longer but it is hard with my schedule now we are back to in office. One thing is that I am SUPER competitive with others and myself so that helps me try and reach my daily goals. Also you can turn cleaning house or chores into an easy workout. There are also exercises you can find on Pinterest. Like 30 day challenges that are really good depending on where you want to tone.
A thing that is VERY important is a food scale. I weight ALL of my food to the serving size and keep a mental (used to write it down) track of my daily caloric intake.
Foods high in fiber are SUPER important. I eat a Baby Spinach salad every day that I weigh out that has an assortment of veggies. I usually do a protein smoothie in the morning. You can find a list of lean meats that you should try and stick to. The leaner the better and the more ounces you can have. That fattier the meat the more you need to eat less.
Do your BMI and see how much fiber you should be getting daily.
I also have pretty much cut out bread/pasta as much as I can. Every now and then I indulge but carbs sit like a lead weight for me.
I have a printed grocery list so I know exactly what I need each week to stay within budget but also to make healthy choices.
I only have water & milk in the house so no sodas or juices which contain tons of sugar. The milk is for my kiddo but I use personally almond milk. Even got my dad to switch to it from normal milk to help with his high blood pressure. You need to make sure you drink half your body weight in water daily. This will help more than you know.
An app that can help with better food choices is Fooducate. You can scan the barcode of food that is ranked by nutritionists. See where it is scored and search for healthier alternatives. You can also enter in all the food you eat during the day and it will show you where you need to adjust.
Another thing is to keep an itemized budget. When you add up all the $ you spend on eating out/unhealthy, it really knocks some sense into you how much $ you are wasting with bad habits.
When you start to clean eat and exercise, you will feel like crap for a few days but the energy you will have after about 4-5 days will change your life. Believe me.

15 tiips to avoid the Freshman 15 (and the rest of your college weight gain)
Hello, future college students of America. First off, you’re annoying and I hate you. You’re about to be thrust into the blissfully independent lifestyle of the American college student. Of course, there’s a kicker when it comes to the most fun 4-6 years of your life, the dreaded Freshman 15 (followed for some of us by the Sophomore 10, the Junior 17, and the whopping Senior 25) . It’s damn near impossible to avoid, between late night pizza places on every corner, and the obscene quantities of alcohol you’ll consume. You’re probably about to blow up like Betty Francis did in the last season of Mad Men. As a survivor of the Freshman 15, here are some simple things you can do to try to avoid packing on the pounds like I did.
1. Think about the fact that if you get fat as shit then you no longer get to have sex with hot people. That’s not to say that you won’t hook up anymore, but the quality of your sexual partners will likely dip with every pound you put on. Hot people only have sex with other hot people. That’s just as constant a law as gravity. Pretty sure Newton wrote about it.
2. Your five-minute walk to class does not constitute exercise, and that walk will get a little harder with every roll your stomach gains. Hit the gym every once in a while. Losing weight is absurdly easy in your late teens and early 20s. Try to build that habit now, otherwise you’ll end up the fat guy in his thirties huffing and puffing on a treadmill and sweating up a storm.
3. If you’re eating after 10pm and you’re not drunk, you’ll have no one to blame but yourself when you can’t fit into any of your clothes at Christmas break.
4. Get in a shit ton of trouble. You’ll have run a marathon’s worth of distance from the cops in no time at all. Burns calories, and gives you great stories to tell over lunch.
5. Picture the disgust on people’s faces when you take your shirt off on Spring Break. Hell, picture the looks on your frat brothers’ faces when you take your shirt off to chug one more beer at the tailgate - trust me on this, they’re laughing at you, not with you.
6. None of your future pledges will be able to take you seriously as a hard ass if you’re a fat ass. There’s a difference between “intimidating power gut” and just being a tub of lard.
7. Mix in a salad or soup every once in a while. Stay away from the regular lunch buffet every now and then. If you eat the garbage that your house chef or dining hall cook puts out on the buffet every night, you’re going to put on some serious pounds.
8. Everyone is gaining weight, so it’s easy to get caught up in the “everyone’s doing it” excuse. Bullshit. Yeah, everyone’s gaining weight, but that’s no excuse to make a second trip to the fro-yo machine. Also, frozen yogurt is not healthier than ice cream, especially when you load absurd amounts of chocolate and candy on top, idiots.
9. Walk everywhere. Walk to the bars, walk to class, walk to your hookup buddy’s house at 3am. Ideally you’ll be too drunk to drive anywhere safely anyway.
10. Watch an episode of The Biggest Loser before every meal. Imagine someone filming you eating the meal you’re about to eat in slow motion with sad piano music in the background. Opt for some fruit or something not deep fried instead of a heaping pile of fries.
11. Eat with members of the opposite sex. Your grody frat bros are likely to cheer you on and encourage you to slam a fifth slice of pepperoni pizza dripping with grease, but the co-eds from Kappa Delta will make it clear that they’re judging you. In a perfect world, power-eating would be a potent aphrodisiac, but it isn’t. It’s just gross.
12. Don’t eat when you’re stressed out. Head to the gym or go on a quick run to release powerful endorphins that will make you feel good. It’s science. Check it out.
13. Imagine that first piece of XL clothing you’ll have to buy. S-L are normal-sized person clothes and you’re about to enter the world of Big & Tall. If you need extra motivation, walk through a Big and Tall store and take note of the guys who shop there - without some serious willpower, you’ll end up just like them in no time. That’s embarrassing.
14. Try a high fiber diet - processed foods are the cheapest and quickest way to widen your waistline. Fiber is scientifically proven to keep you feeling fuller longer so you won’t keep reaching your fat stubby fingers into the potato chip bag.
15. Do tons of drugs and never sleep.
Look, the Freshman 15 is almost completely unavoidable, and obviously I’m kidding about several of these tips. You’re going to gain weight, no matter what. There’s food and booze at your beck and call at all hours of the day, no parents to tell you “no” and plenty of peer pressure. That said, you get those 15 pounds. That’s the house money given to you when you walk in the door. After that, you’re on the hook for becoming a disgusting human being. In reality, if you work out three or four days a week and watch what you eat every couple of days, you should be fine.
Of course, we all received this good advice when we were in your shoes. It’s more than likely that you’ll disregard the sage wisdom from your elders the same way I did - you’ll think it won’t happen to you, that you couldn’t possibly end up with a big fat beer gut, tits bigger than your first girlfriend’s and jowls that jiggle when you laugh. We’ll be there to clap you on the back and order your first round when you belly up to the bar with us - after all, when was the last time you saw a skinny alum on campus?

I'm literally just Some Guy but I think the reason Americans are fat is hyper-capitalism
Genetics also play a major part so no, not having capitalism wouldn't get rid of obesity and that's perfectly fine, but the environmental factors that cause weight gain are another thing
See, in the 80s the sugar lobby spent a lot of money promoting the idea that fat is to blame for health issues and weight gain over sugar, lobbied the FDA to not include daily sugar requirements on nutrition labels, and fought to get sugar into basically all our food, a lot of it. It's really really easy to see from that alone how weight gain in the population would increase.
Then our jobs changed, became more sedentary, but also we have less time to ourselves for exercise or outdoor activities. Solid 9-5 jobs aren't much of a thing anymore, most people are working longer days or irregular hours that are hard to plan around and there's less time to prepare full meals with fresh groceries.
Obviously inflation makes buying healthy food even harder. Cheap meals, let alone quick ones, usually aren't the healthiest. Our healthcare system means if you do want help losing weight you need to pay to ask a doctor about it. The very poorly regulated diet/wellness/supplement industries make us fatter by lying about new 'healthy' foods, pills, and diet habits that can't be sustained and make us gain back more weight. But these industries make massive amounts of money (why not sell 'keto' and 'reduced fat' versions of everything?) so there's huge incentive to keep pushing them.
And, of course, the welfare system is messed up and getting out of poverty is extremely difficult, but the poorer you are the stronger all these other factors affect you.
Like I said there's nothing actually wrong with fat people existing and getting over fatphobia is more important than placing blame, but I still feel a certain way about the perception of Americans (especially by people in the U.S. government) being that we're fat lazy idiots when our environment seems to have set us up for decades of weight gain

5 Lessons From the Iron
Back in 2015, I started weightlifting seriously.  Over eight years of training, I was able to get strong. But more importantly, I discovered a hobby that brought me immense satisfaction.  While I don’t barbell train like I used to, I still religiously lift weights.  During my eight years of serious training, I’ve learned some important life lessons from the iron.  Below, I share five of them. 1. Success Comes From a Long Obedience in the Same Direction When people decide to get serious with exercise, they tend to focus on the minutiae of their new regimen. People spend a lot of time looking for the right program and the right equipment. They think they’ll see incredible gains if they find the optimal set and rep range.  But there’s something just as, if not more important, than the training program you choose: Being consistent with it for months and even years.  How did I deadlift 600 pounds? I trained consistently for six years. Sure, my programming changed during that time, but the thing that didn’t change was me going down to my garage four times a week to train.  The necessity of consistency applies to every other endeavor in life.  I’ve used the consistency principle to lose 30 pounds this year. I didn’t do any crash dieting. I just gradually reduced my calories and stuck to my macro target almost every day for eight months. That’s it.  When people ask me for advice about their online business, they often ask me about the tools and tricks Kate and I use that helped us get AoM to where it is today.  Keeping up with the latest trends in technology, marketing, and social media hasn’t been nearly as important as simply sticking to our publishing schedule; for coming up on sixteen years now, we’ve published several pieces of content nearly every single week. AoM isn’t slick, flashy, or even particularly cool, but it is consistent.  As Nietzsche put it, “everything of the nature of freedom, elegance, boldness . . . and masterly certainty”; everything to do with “virtue, art, music, dancing, reason, spirituality”; everything “that is transfiguring,” that makes “life worth living,” is premised on one thing: A “long obedience in the same direction.” The trick is figuring out ways to stay consistent over the long haul.  When it comes to exercising, we’ve written about how to work out while you’re on vacation, sick, or simply don’t feel like it. There’s plenty of good advice there, and I think it carries over to other parts of life, too.  But the real secret for staying consistent over the long haul is that . . . 2. You Got to Have Ganas Ganas is Spanish for desire.  I’ve written about the centrality of ganas in finding success in whatever you do. Most of the things I’ve achieved in life were because I really wanted to accomplish those things. I had ganas for those goals. A big reason I was able to deadlift 600 pounds is that I really, really wanted to deadlift 600 lbs. That strong desire was what compelled me to rarely miss a workout for four years. My coach could give me programming and offer corrections on technique, but he couldn’t make me want to go after a 600-lb deadlift. I had to have the desire myself. Discipline is really harped on these days as the key to success.  Discipline is one way to achieve the consistency that’s essential to reaching your goals.  But constantly exercising self-control is exhausting.  A better way to stay consistent is to operate with inherent motivation — to enjoy the thing you’re doing so that you want to do the thing that will lead to success.  What William George Jordan said about duty applies to discipline as well: Duty is a hard, mechanical process for making men do things that love would make easy. It is a poor understudy to love. It is not a high enough motive with which to inspire humanity. Duty is the body to which love is the soul. Love, in the divine alchemy of life, transmutes all duties into privileges, all responsibilities into joys. I loved going for big PRs, which is why I could be… http://dlvr.it/T0301h

How to Lose Weight Safely and Effectively
Losing weight is a common goal for many people, but it can also be a challenging one. There are many factors that affect weight loss, such as diet, exercise, genetics, health conditions, and lifestyle habits. However, there are some general principles that can help anyone achieve a healthy and sustainable weight loss. In this article, we will discuss 10 tips for successful weight loss, based on scientific evidence and expert advice.
10 Tips for Successful Weight Loss
Eat varied, colorful, nutritionally dense foods. A balanced and nutritious diet is the foundation of health and weight control. Aim to include a variety of foods from different food groups at each meal, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, healthy fats, and dairy products. These foods provide essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that can help you feel full and satisfied. Avoid foods that are high in calories, fat, sugar, and salt, such as processed foods, baked goods, fast food, and sugary drinks. These foods can contribute to weight gain and increase the risk of chronic diseases.
Keep a food and weight diary. Self-monitoring is a key factor in losing weight and keeping it off. By recording everything you eat and drink, as well as your weight and physical activity, you can track your progress and identify areas for improvement. You can use a paper diary, a mobile app, or a dedicated website to log your food intake and calories. You can also weigh yourself regularly and measure your body mass index (BMI) to monitor your weight status.
Engage in regular physical activity and exercise. Physical activity and exercise can help you burn calories, build muscle, improve your metabolism, and enhance your mood. The general recommendation is to get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week, as well as strength training exercises at least twice a week. You can also incorporate more movement into your daily routine by taking the stairs, walking or biking to work or school, or doing household chores.
Find your inner motivation. Losing weight requires commitment and perseverance. You need to have a clear and compelling reason to change your eating and activity habits for the long term. It could be to improve your health, appearance, confidence, or performance. Whatever your motivation is, make sure it is personal and meaningful to you. You can also remind yourself of your goals and achievements by writing them down or posting them somewhere visible.
Get support from others. Having a strong support network can make a big difference in your weight loss journey. Seek out people who will encourage you in positive ways, without judging or criticizing you. They could be your family members, friends, co-workers, or online communities. You can also join a weight loss program or group that offers guidance, accountability, and social support.
Set realistic goals. Setting realistic and specific goals can help you stay focused and motivated throughout your weight loss process. Your goals should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For example, instead of saying “I want to lose weight”, you could say “I want to lose 10 pounds in 3 months by eating 500 fewer calories per day and exercising for 30 minutes 5 times per week”. You can also break down your goals into smaller and more manageable steps that you can track and celebrate along the way.
Conclusion
Losing weight is not easy, but it is possible with the right strategies and mindset. By following these 10 tips for successful weight loss, you can improve your health, appearance, and well-being in a safe and effective way. Remember that weight loss is a journey, not a destination. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the process!

Nozel | William | Jack x f! reader
TW: pregnancy, twins, giving birth, mentions of abortion
Nozel Silva
This man was already excited that you were going to be pregnant again. but at the same time he was also a little worried, because he didn't really have a smooth pregnancy for your first.
"Congratulations Captain Silva, it seems to be that Mrs Silva is expecting twins instead of one baby!"
Nozel was dumbfounded. He was overjoyed but he was worried it would be too taxing for your body.
He was a little anxious and made sure you went to all your checks and also spent a fortune on pregnancy things like pregnancy bolster, maternity wear, pregnancy cushion, pregnancy massage, pregnancy spas.. the list goes on.
You were glowing from head to toe with everything your husband has prepared. He also took more time off to take care of you and d/n, your first born.
He ordered maids and servants to accompany you to exercise to strengthen your body, your meals were jammed packed with nutrition that you gained a considerable amount of weight.
You had to stop you husband when you were 5 months into pregnancy.
"Honey, you have to stop being so uptight, stress is not good for the baby, be it from the mom or dad.."
"I'm not stressed honey," you could see the dark eye circles under his eyes. "I'm just... worried for you. What if it's too much for you..? I don't want you to hurt yourself."
He was over protective ever since you were badly injured in a battle years ago, so he did not want to go through the trauma of losing you again.
"I'll be okay with everything you prepared for me, let's take it easy alright?"
You had to really kick your husband back to work to keep his mind off things. Having the nanny by your side was maybe better.
William Vangeance
Man was overjoyed when he heard the news, "instead of 1 mini you, we're having two mini yous! How cute!"
"It could be a mini you~" you reminded him lovingly.
"whatever it is, I hope they're like their mommy, strong and kind." he would kiss your forehead.
He would pamper you with everything, everything you wanted, every craving you had, every mood swings you went through, he would go through it all with you.
When you belly got bigger and bigger, he would use his magic to support you, so it wouldn't be too tough for you.
Would pick you and drop you everywhere you went, or else he would send someone to do so.
Also helps you wear your shoes because you cannot see your feet anymore. You're not allowed to bend to pick up anything in case you fall over.
Helps you scrub your back whenever possible. Of course he does your hair. He already does that when you were just dating.
Encourages you to exercise more for a smoother delivery, he would accompany you as well, without doubt.
He has already thought of their names when you were just 4 months pregnant. But he could not decide until the very moment he saw them.
Would be happy regardless of their gender.
He was slightly worried because it was your first pregnancy and you already had to deal with twins, but he spoke to a lot of professionals and read lots of books to help you as much as possible.
If you had to go through a c sect to be safer, then he would ask you to choose the safer option, even though it would be better to have natural delivery. Your safety is priority in this.
Jack the Ripper
Is the most distressed out of the 3 because he wasn't confident to be a good father. And now? He had to be a good father to TWO kids at once.
He has just started to learn to be a good husband and has barely grabbed the ropes. And hell, he has zero knowledge about pregnancy.
He would put his ego down and attend courses with you. Although he would ask a hell lot of weird questions like "can a pregnant lady eat cherry tomatoes?" or "will bugs affect the baby?"
You know that he was sincere and that he just has innocent but quirky thoughts. That was your Jack.
Listened to lot of horror stories of how tough it is to carry twins and how some mothers die or the babies die and how some mothers go into depression and this captain is scared as hell.
He would really come to you to ask if you wanted to give birth at all. And he would pour out his entire emotions one day, about how he would never know how to take care of the kids if you weren't around.
You had to give him a cuddle session to soothe his anxiety.
"i'll take good care of myself, and let's leave the rest up to god"
He would ask you to sign up for 101 courses.
"Bugs, there's a course on how to do cpr for pregnant ladies, do you think I should attend?"
"Lovebug, there's a swim course for pregnant ladies, should i sign you up?"
"Jack, I already signed for a Yoga one yesterday..."
He would ask if you need so many things even before the baby was born.
"Jack, why do we need the baby walker now?" You would go through his list of order before he placed the orders. "And do we need like 20 milk bottles for 2 babies?"
This poor bug was just trying his best to be a good hubby and dad, just help him out a little. When the kids are born, he would probably have tears in his eyes.

Just consider this as our diary wherein we’re jotting down whatever it is that we are eating. We see to it that we burn more than what we consume calories, but then again, we don’t go too crazy with it by eating super low calorie diets. Everything in moderation.
Chapter 7: Snuggle Up with Sleep
It is in the warm linens of imagination that one tucks in when every day winds down. This gives me 7–9 hours of peaceful sleep every night. It provides management to the body so that it does not starve, and rather, the body exercises this management and keeps its timing properly.
Chapter 8: Relax and Beat Stress
Finally, the session is rounded off by having a chill-out. Just think of a placid garden where we will do things like deep breathing and easy exercises. Stress, our canny enemy, would not have even realized that!
So, my dear friends, remember that the formula for fast weight reduction is actually quite simple: to be patient and make doable changes. And so, as we press on with this journey, let’s inspire more people to come on board and help them find their health treasures. Here’s to a happy, healthy adventure; may you find out the great possibilities of a better and fitter self!

Baby Weight
((warning for talk about diet culture and fatphobia, albeit from the perspective of somebody who thinks it's stupid))
On the rare occasions when Alastor lurks in the company of other mothers-to-be, it's usually in hopes of finding solidarity in suffering from the same symptoms.
It doesn't always work. And of all their complaints, the one he finds least sympathetic is when they start bemoaning their new shape.
All the numbers they list—starting weight, gained weight, BMI, calories, numbers that mean nothing. Words like bloated—fat—heavy—ugly. The sighing, the moaning, the panic—over 30, 15, even 5 pounds. The references to trauma they assume are relatable, the desperate outreaches for sympathy. The self-reassurance that in this one circumstance adding a few pounds is fine; the rush to reassure each other it will melt right off; the eagerness to return to diets and exercise. Agonizing over stretch marks. Declarations that they can't recognize their faces in the mirror. Humiliation when family and friends mention their size; fear of their own naked bodies; shame over their "lack of control," even knowing this comes with pregnancy. Tears, sobbing, breakdowns, terror, disgust, self-loathing.
Alastor can't relate to any of it.
He's not unfamiliar with diet culture. He knows that nowadays women (everyone, but especially women) are expected to be rail thin, to meet modern minimalist design standards. He himself has to magically burn off any extra weight he gains. So he could have understood if these mothers were reluctantly girding their loins to meet everyone else's standards—but the idea that these women agree with diet culture's myths baffles him.
Tumblr media
Alastor has no idea how much he weighs right now, he's not interested in knowing, and if you told him the number it wouldn't mean anything to him. But he's sure he weighs far more than he's ever weighed before—and it's a relief.
He died four years into the Great Depression—overworked, underpaid, his money and food and time stretched in every direction as thin as they could get. By day he killed and made demonic pacts, by night he partied in New Orleans' speakeasies, mornings and evenings he was broadcasting, and he doesn't remember how he slept. When he was killed, he was starving and exhausted, and in truth it probably wouldn't have been much longer until he worked himself to death.
The dead don't change—their shape doesn't fluctuate; they neither gain nor lose weight. Alastor spent the next eighty-four years wearing the body of a starving, exhausted, dying man.
When he became a succubus—when he was alive again—the first time he felt a little softness cushioning his bones, he was euphoric. He felt more healthy than he had since years before he died.
He had to burn the thin layer of fat off. So that the thousands of eyes scrutinizing him wouldn't use every extra pound as fuel for the celebrity gossip machine. So that he'd remain as fuckable as possible.
He hated to do it. He hates it every time he has to do it again. He hates how easy it is for him to waste away. He hates how frail he feels, he hates how bony he looks. He hates the modern tastes that make it necessary. He can't understand the miserable mothers who hate getting a little softer during pregnancy.
This pregnancy is the only time outside his short annual vacations he's felt free from scrutiny. Amidst the swollen ankles and achy joints and crushed bladder and poor sleep and sundry other symptoms, the weight of it has been the only part that feels good. If he could have that without the pregnancy—that sense of mass, of existence—that feeling like he's not just a sharp ghost, but like his body is solid and meaty and real—if he had that, he'd feel amazing.
When the baby is born, he doesn't want to burn the weight off.
... No, he doesn't think he'll burn it off.

Weight loss
As you lose weight, one thing they don't talk about is how your tastebuds change. The food you love starts tasting weird. Sure, it still tastes good in the front, but now the aftertaste tastes off. You start to understand why some people say they don't like the taste of certain food. Another thing that changes is your appetite, of course, but more than you expect it to. You can't eat as much as you used to, but your mind still thinks it can. You end up with more food than you know what to do with. Suddenly, that bowl of cereal or soup is too much for you to finish even though you only ate half of it. That little bit of meat and cheese is surprisingly enough for you.
As you drop the weight, you will feel like you're absolutely STARVING at first because your body isn't getting what it has grown accustomed to. Stick it out, and you'll stop feeling like you're starving to death. If you start having nausea during weight loss, it means you're dropping weight too fast. Be very cautious as it could potentially be dangerous depending on your personal situation. When in doubt, just eat something. Food is not your enemy.
There may be times you don't have an appetite, and nothing is appealing to you. You could easily go all day only eating once if even. But regardless, you gotta eat something anyway. You'll be surprised by how hungry you really are once you start eating.
Don't be afraid of calories or carbs. You burn a lot more calories and carbs in a day than you think. You have to consume a surprising amount of calories and carbs to fuel your body for weight loss. Without it, it's like trying to drive a car with no gas.
Weight loss isn't without tears. Nine times out of ten, you WILL break down and cry at some point. I've been there repeatedly myself. It's ok. Release the frustration and tension but keep going afterward. You're doing great even if you're not seeing it yet. It's a weight loss JOURNEY, after all. You may not physically see much happening in the first month or two, but you'll feel it first. You'll notice that you're not as out of breath climbing the stairs. That walk isn't tiring anymore, or you can run farther before you have to catch your breath. Next thing you know, you feel great afterward instead of feeling exhausted and like your body is jello. More energy to do things again.
Your weight will fluctuate up and down anywhere between 5 pounds. Everyone's does, but that doesn't mean that's the exact amount of fat you have. There's a lot of factors in your weight. Water, clothes, or stress, even if you've gone to the bathroom, makes it fluctuate. So don't be afraid to see a slightly higher number or the same number. Keep in mind that as you lose weight, you build muscle at the same time. Muscle weighs 2 pounds for every pound of fat. That doesn't mean you're not still burning the fat.
Rest rest rest. Working hard to lose weight is great and all, but you need to let your body rest and recover. Physically, you'll push your body hard. You'll be exhausted and drained every day, even in pain, because your muscles haven't had a chance to repair itself. You'll eventually hurt, pull, or damage something. Possibly to the point of irreversible damage. Mentally, you'll grow to hate exercising and grow short with everyone around you. You'll despise having to work out every day or every two days, etc. Don't. Let your body rest that day. Your body will tell you what it needs, whether it's the easy or hard way. It's ok to have an easy or lazy day every once in a while. Rest is just as important as the work you put in.
Be kind to yourself. Losing weight isn't going to magically make you love yourself. It'll help you feel more confident and even like yourself, just a little more. Which is by no means something to underestimate, but in the end, you won't truly LOVE yourself just because you lost weight. It takes a lot more than that. Fixing the outside won't fix the insecurities inside. Unfortunately, you learn to accept yourself for who you are and grow to love yourself mentally over time. After all, it's your personality, your kindness, your goofiness, and passions unique to you that matter to the people that truly love you. Not some number on a scale.
Having an inspiration to motivate you is never a bad thing, but the reality is you will never look 100% like them. Something will always look a little different, and that's ok! You don't have to look exactly like them to look absolutely amazing. Two people could be the same weight, even the same height, and one will be smaller or more curvy than the other because their body carries it differently. There's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't mean one looks better than the other, just different.

Things I've recently noticed in my attempted glow up Era. List is kinda long... sorry!
1. I took a photo of my body a year ago and compared it to a photo taken yesterday.. I was 4 pounds lighter in the first picture but the muscles and how toned my stomach looks now??? Crazzyyy what a little toning can do. I look so much better.
2. I took some spicy pictures, and my arms are twigs.
3. I want to be SKINNYYY but I also want a butt. I hate hate hate exercise so I'm going to have to suck it up cuz at this point, I need muscle there since I clearly don't have the fat.
4. I cleaned out my closet for the first time since High school and I realized being 23 and living in NY, it's time to up my fashion from Baggy jeans and oversized sweaters to maybe something a bit classier. I'm going for elegant but still has fun. Being so close to my goal weight, I'm confident in shopping a size down knowing it will fit me and it's time to wear clothes flattering to my body shape.
5. Motivation and discipline are not the same thing and in my opinion, discipline is more important than Motivation. You can be motivated all you want... but do you have the discipline to achieve it?
6. Water. Water. Water!!!! Fat cells don't go away. So as an example, my starting weight was 108 and I am now 90. All the fat cells I have from being 108 are still there but "deflated." That's why it's so easy to gain weight and so hard to lose. Water weight is temporary and will go away. It's just those cells "swelling" up. One day you'll wake up 2 pounds lighter and it's because those fat cells that were replaced with water finally let it all go.
7. Nobody can tell if you've lost or gained 5 pounds.
8. I struggled with cystic acne my entire teen life and even into my early 20s. I was probably the queen of pimple creams. You want to try a new product? I've already tried it and here's my experience. I went to countless dermatologists and was even given medicated treatments and antibiotics. They made my acne WORSE. I learned, at least for me, that SIMPLE products work best. I use an organic goat milk soap bar, vitamin c moisturizer, and literally a misting of sunscreen on my face and haven't had a zit bigger than a pinprick in over a year and they've all been cycle related. Also, removing the peach fuzz from your face helps with oil and dirt
9. If you're like me and enjoy BOILING showers, please do not wash your hair or face in hot water. Washing your face should be the first and last step when showering. Allow the steam to open your pores and then switch the water to Luke warm to wash, cold to rinse... same with your hair! Cold water onllyyy and do not dry with a towel. A simple cotton shirt is so much better for it.
10. Whitening your teeth doesn't have to cost much at all. Crest 3D Whitening strips do the job very well or you can take a banana peel as it's turning from green to yellow and rub the inside of the peel on your teeth. Worked wonders for me when I couldn't afford Whitening strips.
11. 3 basics I do everyday to be put together. If someone were to knock on my door, I should feel comfortable enough in my appearance to open it. Always have your hair done in some kind of way (pony, half up, claw clipped, even a messy bun), always have on clean clothes (yes pj's are fine but remember if someone knocked, are your pj's matching? Flattering? Or do you look messy and lazy?) Always have your teeth brushed and face put together.
12. Get off your phone. Get offfff yourrrr phone!!! I see so many people in public with their heads down watching their phone, or at a table and they have their phone out, or walking with a group of friends and they all have phones. Phones can enhance an experience (a museum offering a guided tour) and that's fine! But I hate the amount of full grown adults walking down the street glued to a phone. I give teens a break, but adults?? Please step away from the glowing rectangle in your hand for an HOUR while we are at dinner. The biggest glow up is to be present. Put your phone down at the table and notice the people around you, put your phone down while walking down the street and observe the world. To me, the most attractive people I see aren't on their phones.. they are experiencing.
13. Fruits and vegetables not only look like an aesthetic on a plate, but you look like an aesthetic eating them. You get so many nutrients out of them and you get a full stomach much quicker for wayyyyy less calories. Some fruits and veggies even burn calories to digest.
14. There is nothing wrong with noticing flaws on your body and NOT embracing them. I've lived in Hawaii all my life and always wore shorts because my bikini line would break out the DAY I would shave. Well laser hair takes too long, waxing sounds AWFUL, so I got a tattoo in that area. I still get red angry bumps from time to time (olive oil, exfoliating, and a NEW Razor each time has helped) But now my tattoo takes away from those bumps and they aren't noticeable. I feel confident in bikinis because I modified the area that was bothering me.
15. Trends are great, but learn to accept that some trends just aren't meant for you. A glow up is being true to yourself and what you feel confident in. It's about knowing that the magical product that works for them may not work for you, it's knowing your body type, type of skin you have, colors that enhance or take away from you, and fashion comes and goes but style does not.
16. If you have a period, I am begging you to track your moods, your symptoms, your cycle phases. You'll not only feel so in touch with the rapid changes our bodies go through, but you'll be able to predict your body's cycle. I know for a fact next week I need to spend extra care with my skin, I'll be bloated so I should avoid foods that contribute and not worry too much about any "gain", and my hair will get greasy easily so I should switch my hair routine up a little bit. Knowing your cycle phases and the hormones that relate will do wonders in keeping your mental and physical health in check.
17. This kinda goes with 12, but be friendly. Smile at the cashier and ask them how they are, say please and thank you to everyone, hold the door open for the family of 4 with a stroller, listen to your friends and find a way to loop back to the friend whose story got unintentionally interrupted by someone else. Make the people you care about feel like they have your attention. Dont make comments to put people down (i was so bad at this. I would say, "god. She's 40 and dressing like that?" Now i catch myself and i say "i want her confidence. Look how shes rocking the zebra print boots!") don't match a rude person's energy.. all it does is fuel an already "unhealthy" situation. Take the rudeness with grace. Be present, be kind, be open and you'll attract people like a magnet.
18. Old lady perfume only smells like an old lady because you are over spraying. A dab on both wrists, a dab on the naval, a dab on the ankles and MAYBE some behind your ear. It's supposed to smell light and flowery not like you've raided your grandma's closet. Save the big all over body sprays for perfumes from bath and body works.

I’ve decided I want to get faster at writing so I am going to blog a few days and try to make a practice of it. I worked on my writer resume tonight. It’s already 9pm. I am kind of tired. Listening to old school indie music. Still no job yet, since August 2022. It might be weird to go back to work. I’ll need to make sure I can wake up early. Read a little philosophy this afternoon. I should check the news in the NYT. I haven’t been paying close attention recently. I talked to a recruiter about a few jobs but they don’t pay great. In the first half of 2022 I started looking at work because I wanted to take the next step. Now I’m taking a step back perhaps. That’s what happens when you don’t work for over a year. I have had time for poetry though. That’s been good. I hope to finish some poems. Read some sad poems in the October issue of Poetry Magazine, but I think poetry is a great place for difficult topics. Reminds me to pray for others, and know someone somewhere is having a difficult time. You aren’t alone in this. I think it’s important to remember those who are suffering. You aren’t alone in this. I kind of want to look at art more. I want to read more too. I read some last night, the October issue of Poetry. The Decemberists are on the radio. I’m thinking about how to manage myself so that I don’t run myself out of energy. Sometimes you need to not use all your energy in one activity so you can focus elsewhere as well. I have a running goal to lose weight by the end of 2023. Send positive vibes. I want to look more like a runner. I pass quite a few runners in town driving around. Running is a big goal. Poetry is too, but I need to find a job so I can pay bills. I’m watching my diet again. I didn’t watch it last week really. It’s rough. I have trouble getting to the gym 7 day/wk. But maybe I just need to build the habit. It is incredibly important to my health. Where do I want my life to go? I want to be a senior engineer. Or I want enough money to buy a car and go to NYC every year. I want to pay off school debt. Yeah, the job is the money, but it can be fun or at least important. It is work. Somehow I want energy to write too. And read. So more writing and reading and less TV. I want to read more too. Having a job will take energy, but I don’t need to commit myself to 10hour days every day. I hope to get interviews for the jobs I applied to today. I also should apply to more. Maybe tomorrow I won’t sleep through the afternoon and be able to work on more submissions. I could stay up later tonight because I haven’t been able to fall asleep very well. I am watching my energy and mood and healthy habits this month. October has been difficult in the past. I don’t know if it’s from burn out at work or just an affect of the season. I have been pretty happy in Spring and Summer this year. I think I don’t like the sun setting soon. Maybe I will take a drive tomorrow and look at leaves. This blog is all over the place but it’s fine. I wish I didn’t have to be so careful about with things like mood and energy. I do need more daily focus on diet and exercise. I’m hoping to get to the gym 5 days this week. Both today and yesterday were good runs. Tomorrow I’m going for a speed work out. Twins won their wildcard game to progress in the playoffs. Watching the news now. But the gym is very important to me. I need to keep the habit building weekly and daily. I am excited about making progress with running. Longer durations and more mileage and hopefully higher speed. I will stretch tonight. I’ve been feeling sore today. I used a couple weight machines in addition to my treadmill workout. Not all the machines, I was not feeling the weights today. I have a few goals longer term, but I should think about shorter term goals. I did hit a distance target about a week ago. Maybe I should try to tack on half a mile to that distance. I need to think about what to do for easy run. I guess easy should just be easy, and push on the hard efforts, like speed work and long runs.
