Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I really think Gimli’s love for Galadriel and his anger at anyone who doesn’t also think she’s “the fairest in the world” is NOT entirely about physical beauty. It’s much deeper than that.

His feelings for her are not instantaneous, when he lays eyes on her face and hair; what lights the spark is her words. She is polite to him. She opens her mind and heart to him, a dwarf, and shows him respect. And when he humbly asks for a little reminder of her, she gives him triple of what he requested.

That’s what he loves. She’s not at all like any of the Elves he’s previously known and heard about. She sees him and appreciates him for what he is, and he does the same for her. It is her soul that he deems the most beautiful in the world, not just her face and hair. He respects and values her as a person. This is why he is upset when Éomer insults her. He knows she is nothing like what Éomer accuses her of being.

And when Gimli only lets the matter with Éomer go upon learning that Éomer thinks Arwen is the fairest instead, I also think it’s deeper than just superficial, at least on Gimli’s part. (Éomer does show hints of sexism, however benign, but Gimli is utterly chivalrous). Gimli recognizes that Arwen is Galadriel’s granddaughter and the love of Aragorn’s life, both of which are major indicators that she also has good character, as well as outer beauty. If Arwen is related to someone as wonderful as Galadriel, and chosen by someone as dear as Aragorn, then she must be a good candidate in her own right and Éomer must be given a pass, in Gimli’s eyes.

Again, maybe this is too deep. Maybe Tolkien did just intend Gimli and Éomer’s debate as “who’s hotter” and nothing more, but I don’t believe that. Sexism in Tolkien’s work is a different conversation entirely… but I just feel like Tolkien is too rich and thoughtful a writer to be implying that Gimli worships Galadriel only because she’s pretty. I also doubt Galadriel herself would give three hairs to someone who only values her for her physical appearance. That’s what Fëanor was like, not Gimli.

Imagine trying to explain Christmas, Santa Claus and the elves to the fellowship.

Gimli would be laughing on the floor about the elves part

Aragorn would be holding back chuckles cause he thinks it is funny but you seem to care about this thing called 'christmas'

Boromir would just be confused because of flying reindeers and the speed they fly

Frodo would think it is sweet and is asking you if you can have Christmas this year

Sam would be interested in all the traditional Christmas foods and how to make them

Pippin would be all in for free gifts and lots of food

Merry would say it is a celebration for him since we wish 'Merry Christmas' to each other and he would laugh bout it. He would think Christmas is nice though

Legolas would be telling you reasons why you are wrong about the elves and their size. (He doesnt like Gimli teasing him about it) but otherwise would act pretty much the same as Aragorn

Ok, so my brother recently read through all of the Silmarillion and one of the things he learned is that the world of LOTR is either a flat and round earth, depending on what race you are.

Elves exist on the flat earth, and if they sail far enough West off the edge the reach the heaven land of Valinor, while all other races can circumnavigate the globe.

I imagine his tattoos represent his status as a master scholar, the meanings being A) a third eye, or seeing what others cannot, and B) smth kinda like eyelashes under his real eyes to symbolize keeping eye wide open

I'm not really looking for a Valentine this year, at least not for myself. My Lord of the Rings OC Finn however...

This is Finn. He was a wee dwarrowling in Erebor during the War of the Ring. Growing up he loved stories of heroism and adventure and came to idolize Gimli a little bit. When Gimli announced his plans to retake Moria Finn signed up without a second thought.

Finn is a bit of a daydreamer and a romantic. Even as an adult he loves stories and songs, and especially loves singing. He's a pretty good fighter and a better cook.

Despite being such a romantic though he has yet to meet his One, but I want to change that. If you have a Lord of the Rings OC (dwarrow or otherwise) that you want to roleplay or ship with Finn then please hit me up. Alternatively, if you want to play Return to Moria on PS5 then that would be cool too.

Rose tattoo

Inspired by Rose tattoo by Dropkick Murpheys

A/n: I just had an idea while listening to this song and decided to write this. Written on mobile and it's quite short

Pairing: Dwalin x gn!reader (platonic)

Warnings: brief talk of sickness and death

You were on first watch this night with Dwalin. He was quiet and brooding as usual but you were in the mood for a conversation. You knew he wouldn't listen if you started to talk about yourself so you decided to ask something about him. Or actually his tattoos.

"So what was your first tattoo" you asked.

He was silent for moment before answering. "It was the one on m' back" he said.

You nodded and started asking follow-up questions. What was his favorite, his latest, the most painful. You were suprised by how happy he was to answer those.

The night went nicely until it was almost time to wake up Gloin and Nori. You had wondered for a while, what was the story of his rose tattoo on his forearm.

"So what about the rose one? Whats the story of that?" you asked curiously.

Right then he went completely quiet again, got up and woke up Nori and Gloin. He walked to his bedroll and decided to go to sleep. His reaction left you confused and scared that you had offended him.

Nori walked up to you and patted your shoulder as a signal that you too can sleep now. But you wanted answers.

"Can i ask you real quick?" you said to him.

"Sure, what is it" he responded still a bit sleepy.

"I was asking Dwalin about his tattoos, and he answered them all exept when i asked about the rose one, he left. Why?" you asked worriedly.

"The rose one? It's a very meaningful one"

"What do you mean?" you asked even more confused.

"Y'know he used to be married. He had a wife and oh how in love they were. S'happy. But then she got sick, and her condition went bad, fast. He tried everything to help her but it just got worse and worse. And then the sickness won. He got the tattoo as a reminder of her, her favorite flowers were roses" Nori explained.

"Oh i had no idea. I hope i didn't offend him by asking that" you said, feeling sad about the story.

"I'm sure you didn't, ye just brought up a long lost memory" he said. "But dinna worry ye self too much and go to sleep"

You still felt bad, but you could always apologise in the morning.

When the sun rose, you walked straight to Dwalin. You hadn't slept much that night.

"Hey, uh Nori told me of the story behind that tattoo. I'm sorry for asking about it" you told him.

"T'is okay, ye just made me think of her" he said while looking at the ground.

"So everything okay?"

"Aye"
