The Weird and Wonderful of Barrettt-Jackson Scottsdale
There’s no shortage of creative expression when customizing and modifying cars these days and by extension, the automakers of yesteryear spared no creative expense either. Coming up at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this week, there tons of prime examples of creative exercise by builder and manufacturers alike and after a long scroll through the entire docket of cars, we think we’ve found the weirdest ones. See what they go for this week on our live stream.
A.J. agreed to oversee this project from inception through its salt racing campaign. It was built to run at Bonneville Speed Week in August 2012. Of only 160 ever built, this is the only Indy Offenhauser in the world still in competition. The car set a world record in August of 2018 of 181.147 mph.
This car underwent a complete restoration with many correct features throughout. An organized binder of restoration photos and receipts is included. It retains all the original sheet metal with the exception of the bottom of the rear quarters and floors.
Created by the owners of Hershey’s Market to run in the 4th of July Parade, this custom build was meant to re-create the one-of-a-kind, themed Balboa Island Candy Express truck.

This Model A built by Weaver Customs is dubbed the “Twisted Mistress.” A twin-turbo 401ci 8-cylinder Windsor engine is backed by a C6 automatic transmission with a 3,500 stall converter going back to a 9-inch Ford rear end sporting 3.70:1 gears.
This 1932 Hudson Indy Car re-creation was inspired by the one-off Hudson Special raced by Al Miller and mechanic Howard Creith at the 1932 Indianapolis 500. This car was professionally built from the ground up by a father and son team over a 14-year period. Virtually every part of this car was built from scratch, using period photos and information.
An older nut-and-bolt restoration, this 1934 Ford is finished in red and black with custom hand-painted artwork in the Texaco theme. The original spare is even still mounted under the truck! It’s powered by a Flathead 21-bolt 239ci V8 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
This nicely restored older classic is finished in Dove Gray paint with luxurious upholstery and period-correct whitewall tires. It runs well powered by a 323ci inline 8-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with factory overdrive and has had a recent tune up. The streamlined unibody construction, top-quality mechanics and art-deco styling made this car unlike anything else on the road at the time.
This 1937 Dodge Rat Rod truck sits on a custom frame with an unrestored steel cab and Camaro rear end. It is powered by a freshly built 350ci Chevy engine with a four-bolt main and was built with a new automatic transmission. This Rat Rod was built with attention to detail and has four-wheel disc brakes. Up front the swan hood ornament flies over the torpedo-shaped turn signals. There is a beer bottle mounted for coolant overflow with tubing that looks like it’s straight from a whiskey still.
This 1937 Ford, known as “Precious Metal,” was built from a 1937 Ford five-window coupe. The original body was crafted into a highly customized, all-steel Phantom wagon with a hand-built custom grille, brightwork and luggage rack. It is powered by a 302ci V8 Ford engine with dual four-barrel carburetors, stainless exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers. It all sits on a TCI frame with independent front suspension, a four-link rear suspension with adjustable air ride and four-wheel disc brakes. The trailer and chopper that match the car are also for sale!
This 1937 Ford Factory built Housecar Camper was built at the Ford plant in St. Paul, Minnisota on a 1937 Ford pickup frame and cowling with the rear framing being wood with metal skin wrap. The accessories include a table behind the driver’s seat, cabinets, aluminum sink, bed, pop-out windows and roof vent. It is powered by a correct Flathead V8 engine and three-speed manual transmission.
A total of 2,289 Crosley convertibles were built for the 1941 production year. Restored to factory specifications with less than 100 miles driven since, this Crosley is powered by a two-cylinder 13hp air-cooled engine coupled with a three-speed manual transmission. This Crosley has 25,625 original miles on the clock.
This 1941 Willys custom coupe is powered by a 5.7L Chevrolet LS1 engine backed by a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. It’s equipped with a Ford 9-inch rear end with 4.11 gears, four-link suspension with coilovers and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. This Fiberglass-bodied coupe is finished in green with custom airbrushing and features a steel tubular chassis, Centerline wheels wrapped in Hoosier tires and Painless wiring.
1944 4-wheel-drive Willys Overland Surrey underwent a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration and is powered by a modern 2.0L high-performance OHC Ford four-cylinder engine backed by a C4 automatic transmission with a shift kit and a Hurst floor shifter. It features a detailed frame and chassis and lots of chrome. It’s equipped with a military T18 transfer case with two-wheel high range and four-wheel low range, rebuilt front and rear ends with Warner hubs and 3.73 gears, chrome leaf springs with a two-inch lift and a two-inch body lift.
The Kurtis Kraft Midgets were the epitome of Midget racing. This vintage 1946 Kurtis Kraft alcohol-burning Midget Sprint car is powered by a fuel-injected, water-cooled Magneto four-cylinder engine mated to a manual transmission, and puts out an estimated 160hp. It features a quick-change rear end with multiple gears, and is currently set up with racing tire stagger. An early survivor, this Midget is sold with a special-purpose Sprint car trailer with a mounted tool box, spare parts and vintage helmet. It has no clutch, but rather an in-and-out bar.
This pickup is one of 3,182 Crosley pickups built in 1947, and was manufactured in Marion, Indiana. This particular truck spent 40 years stored in a chicken coop on a farm in Zillah, Washington. The engine is a late-model 61ci model, which is coupled to a three-speed manual transmission.
This beautiful firetruck was in service through 1974, when the original Flathead six-cylinder engine was replaced with a bored-out 1955 Ford 292ci Y-block V8 engine. The main pump was capable of draining the tank of water in under one minute at full spray. The water tank was shortened to accommodate bench seating for passengers. Hoses are folded under the bed floor, and the ladder hangs on original brass hardware. The manual transmission is a four-speed with a two-speed rear differential.
The 1949 Case SO Orchard Streamline was produced by the J.I. Case Co. in Racine, Wisconsin. It features a 153.9ci engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission with reverse, optional belt pulley, orchard exhaust and streamline orchard sheet metal. This example of a Case tractor underwent an extensive restoration with a rebuilt engine, and period-correct wiring harness, gauges, decals and emblems.
This 1949 Hillegas Midget Sprint car, “The Ace,” was manufactured in Allentown, PA, by Hillegas. It’s powered by a Ford V8 engine mated to a three-speed manual transmission. This sprint car has quite a racing history with the International Racers Association, IRA Tri-State and NASCAR Midget Circuit, and other circuits with several wins. Its history is verified through historian and photographer Lou Ensworth, as well as drivers Rick Bartel and Vern Harriman. Racing history, a binder of pictures and a vintage helmet are included.
This 1950 GMC barn find is known as the “Chuck Wagon,” with a Wild West Conestoga wagon-look for the road. It’s powered by a six-cylinder engine and a three-speed automatic transmission.
With the main goal of keeping this truck stock and original, the big 261ci six-cylinder was installed rather than a V8. It does have the Clifford 6-8 split header with a Weber 390 cfm carburetor to give it a little more power and torque. It has the original four-speed manual transmission, the year-correct foot starter pedal, the two-lever transfer case and a driveshaft emergency brake. he total frame-off restoration on this custom one-ton panel truck was meticulously completed about 10 years ago by a NAPCO restorer.
This 1954 Cushman Ice Cream Truck is powered by a freshly rebuilt 8hp single-cylinder Husky engine and three-speed manual transmission with reverse. It features a custom ice cream box with an umbrella, headlights and taillights, and was professionally painted and pinstriped.
Known as “X-Box,” this 1955 Chevrolet has modern-day exotic looks and performance. Every corner of the car has been modified for aesthetics coupled with performance. Modern power starts with a 427ci LSX ProCharger power plant backed by a six-speed automatic transmission. A Max-G Art Morrison chassis handles corners and smooth highway driving with a C6 Corvette front end, a dual-purpose rear with a three-link Watts and a four-link. Stopping is handled by huge Wilwood brakes and large sway bars. Over 100 modifications and 6,000 hours created this one-off car. From the wedge-cut roof to all of the one-off machined trim and interior pieces this is a truly unique 1955 Chevy built by Pro Rides and is, as HOT ROD magazine said on their cover, the “World’s Baddest 55.”
This central Oregon 1956 International 4×4 S-120 pickup is powered by a rebuilt 220ci engine and a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission. It’s equipped with new clutch, brakes and tires.
This Bremen Citation Dune Buggy has a 1957 Volkswagen chassis and is powered by a 1600cc engine with four-speed manual transmission. It has its original gelcoat body, removable hardtop, side curtains, roll bar and a lot of chrome.
This custom pickup truck was built using a 1987 Chevy half-ton 4×4 chassis that was sandblasted and repainted. It has all-new brakes and brake lines, power steering box, dual 20-gallon aluminum fuel tanks and dual chrome stacks. It is equipped with a stock 454ci 8-cylinder engine and the Turbo 400 automatic transmission and 208 transfer case have been rebuilt. The interior features hickory hardwood floors, high-back captain seats with matching upholstery and stainless-steel accents. This car features a red exterior, 308 front and rear gears with lock-out front hubs and aluminum slot wheels wearing Goodyear Wrangler 35-inch tires.
This 1958 Jeep FC170 was completely hand-built by the Daystar team in Phoenix, AZ. Hundreds of hours went into the building of this Jeep, and it was featured at the 2015 SEMA show. It’s powered by a 5.7L 8-cylinder engine backed by an automatic transmission. This Jeep is still in great condition to this day. Both wheels and tires, and Mattracks tracks are included in the sale.
This fully custom 1959 Chevrolet 3100 Task Force Series extended cab dually truck is a custom-designed, all-steel, fully bagged Resto-Mod with countless hours invested in fabrication. Drivetrain, suspension, bodywork, and interior; every single inch of this truck has been retouched.
This train was handcrafted in the 1960s by Daniel Boone VI, a direct descendant of the legendary Daniel Boone who has many iron works featured in Appalachia and historical Williamsburg, Virginia, including the Governor’s Palace. It took a total of five years to complete the train, which was featured in several magazines at the time, including Popular Mechanics and National Geographic. It was completely restored in a state-of-the-art body shop and remains in a temperature-controlled environment in good condition. It is a fully functional scale model of a Union Pacific 484 Baldwin Engine plus four Pullman cars that weigh 400 pounds each.
This 1962 Plymouth Savoy has been raced by its owner for 15 years. It’s powered by a 572/950hp all-aluminum wedge engine that was professionally built and dyno-tested. The professionally built automatic transmission is outfitted with billet parts and a Neil Chance 5,500 stall converter. This race car is equipped with a Dana 60 rear end with 4.56:1 gears and 41-spline axles, tube chassis with four-link rear suspension and Wilwood brakes at all four corners. It’s an all-steel car except for the hood, and weighs 3,100 pounds.
This 1962 Studebaker Champ 3/4-ton pickup has a factory side-mount spare tire and custom wheels. It’s finished in metallic blue and is powered by a 289ci engine mated to a four-on-the-floor manual transmission.
Commissioned through Ford Motor Company by the U.S. government, the Presidential Limousine project was known as SS-100-X, or simply X-100. It began life as a standard 1961 Continental convertible with a 1962 grille added. It was shipped to Hess & Eisenhardt of Cincinnati, Ohio, who added 3.5 feet to the wheelbase, fitted unique steps on the rear for Secret Service members to ride, along with special lights and sirens, radio equipment and folding jump seats in the rear compartment. The body and roof were not armor-plated and, aside from the car’s special parts, no additional reinforcements were made. The X-100 was used by presidents until its retirement in 1978.
This custom 1963 Nissan Patrol is powered by a 302ci Ford engine with throttle body fuel injection, backed by an AOD automatic transmission with B&M lockup converter and a Dana 44 front differential with ARB air locker. It also sports a Ford 9-inch rear end with Strange billet third member and Detroit locker, as well as an Atlas transfer case, power steering and four-wheel Hydro-Boost power disc brakes. It has a 20-gallon fuel cell, six-point roll cage, custom front and rear bumpers and Pro Comp Ultra Lite Auto Meter gauges. This Nissan also features skid plates to protect the drivetrain.
The famous Ringbrothers 1965 Mustang Fastback carbon widebody named “Producer.” Including carbon-fiber body panels, the car has been completely widened four-inches throughout and sits on a complete Art Morrison custom chassis and custom-built one-off Forgeline center-lock wheels. “Producer” has been equipped with a custom 436/740hp Keith Craft dry-sump racing engine that puts out 700 ft/lbs of torque, driven by a Bowler T56 six-speed manual transmission. In order to hold all the power a Tilton Racing Clutch was installed matched to a machined Ford 9-inch rear end. To control the car, AFCO coilover suspension was installed at all four corners, while Baer 15-inch brakes were used for stopping.
This 1967 Chevelle is a one-of-a-kind custom that has been chopped 7-1/2-inches. All body seams have been filled, rain gutters shaved, door handles removed and bumpers smoothed. It’s equipped with a 350ci Chevy engine sporting a tunnel-ram intake with two Holley 450 carburetors sitting on top, and lots of chrome and polished aluminum to go around. The engine is backed by a three-speed automatic transmission with a Hurst shifter, transferring the power to a 12-bolt posi-traction rear with 4:56 gears, coilovers and a ladder-bar rear suspension. This thing definitely harkens back to the 1990s Pro Street scene with the stance, bug-catcher, and plush seating.
This 1968 Ford Econoline van underwent a body-on restoration and is styled after the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. It is finished in the correct movie exterior color combination along with the Mystery Machine livery. The interior is a custom blue, green and orange movie-style look and is complete with a Ghost Finder instrument panel. It is powered by a factory 302ci V8 engine mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.
At the heart of the Dodge is a small-block Mopar 360ci V8 engine backed by a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission with Gear Vendors overdrive and a 9-inch Ford rear axle. The V8 is equipped with Edelbrock Performance cylinder heads, camshaft and intake manifold. This truck began life as a six-man, crew cab, work truck and now it’s a low-slung, custom machine. The truck rides on a Roadster Shop chassis with an independent front end four-link rear suspension.
This original 1970 Mustang Boss 302 is powered by a proper G-code 302ci engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission and is finished and detailed as a Bud Moore tribute car. Completed in 2008, the Boss is now accompanied with the original Build Sheet, receipts, track notebooks and the VRA logbook. This is a real Trans Am race car, however, due to no previous participation in an original Trans Am race, this car cannot run with the select “Historic Trans Am Group” at limited events such as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, under the present rules.
This six-wheel 1972 Chevrolet C30 RV is powered by a GM Performance 416ci LS3 engine and a Bowler automatic transmission. It has a complete GSI Fabrication dual rear wheel drive chassis mated to an independent suspension at all four corners, on an Accuair E-level air ride system. Huge 22-inch one-off custom Manbronze wheels were used to propel down the road. It features an Audiophile sound system, a 50-inch flat screen entertainment system, Honda Ultra-Quiet generator for power and a twin-bunk area.
This custom-made VW bus was made specifically for the movie “Sunchaser” starring Woody Harrelson, and is still in movie condition. The look and feel of this bus was created by artists for the desert scene where Woody’s character is stranded and is picked by a hippie character, who saves him. It’s powered by a four-cylinder engine and a four-speed manual transmission.
This 1977 AMC Pacer “Wayne’s World” re-creation retains its original drivetrain and includes correct mismatched wheels and hubcaps, and 1992 “Wayne’s World” memorabilia. It is powered by a six-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission.
This 1979 Chevrolet G20 custom Boogie Van is powered by a 350ci engine backed by a Three-speed automatic transmission. Fully customized from new and not altered since, this van features custom hand-painted graphics, wide body flares and Cloud Rider running boards. The custom interior features captain’s chairs, extensive crushed velvet upholstery and shag carpeting. Comforts features include a rear sitting area with a table that converts to a bed, beer fridge, eight-speaker stereo system and a CB radio with dual whip antennas. It has a sunroof, rear opera windows, rear window louvers, and an engine-driven compressor to operate the roof-mounted air horns. It’s been stored indoors, and is solid and mechanically sound.
This 1980 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is powered by a 350/190hp engine mated to an automatic transmission. This sports car was built on a C3 Corvette chassis and features a black top with a clear rear window. It is a re-creation Spider.
Built through a joint venture with Ford and Shay with a Ford warranty, the Shay was sold through Ford dealerships. The Shay was built as a production vehicle and not assembled as a kit, with only 5,000 produced. The special feature about this particular vehicle is that it is an original California vehicle with a 2.3L engine boasting 88hp, and an FOG four-speed automatic transmission, as opposed to the ones sold outside of California that have a manual transmission.
This vintage 1982 26-foot Airstream Excella motor coach has been fully remodeled by Hofmann Architecture in Santa Barbara, CA, and has less than 1,000 miles since. The interior features a bedroom, bathroom, gas stovetop, fresh-water farm sink, two Smeg refrigerators, Wi-Fi, dual air conditioning units and cable television, along with quality furnishings and cabinetry. The mechanical aspects have all been replaced and restored, including the 8.1L 8-cylinder engine, 4L80E automatic transmission, enhanced suspension, fuel tank and electronics. Its aluminum alloy body is in good condition.
This Ladder Truck was assigned specifically to the Hoover Dam. It is retired, but retains all of its equipment. A 1984 Ford F8000 cab and chassis is the base of the truck. It is powered by a Caterpillar 3208 10.4L diesel V8 engine backed by a three-speed automatic transmission and uses air brakes. Emergency One of Ocala, FL added all of the firefighting equipment. This truck has a 50-foot ladder with an attached water line and a remote nozzle at the top.
Built by Raymond Beadle’s Blue Max Racing, this was one of Rusty’s favorite cars, named “Millie.” Wallace won multiple races driving the Kodiak-sponsored cars, including the 1989 Winston Cup championship. “Millie” is exactly as raced on short and intermediate tracks; great car for any collection or historical racing. Powered by a 350ci V8 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission. This car was on display at Bristol Motor Speedway Museum from 2009-2012. Included is a vintage replica helmet signed by Rusty. One hundred percent of the sale price of this rare car from the Robert McNab Collection will benefit Task Force Dagger Foundation, which provides assistance to wounded, ill or injured U.S. Special Operations Command members and their families.

This SEMA Show car is a one-of-a-kind custom Mustang with over $700,000 invested in the build. It was originally a 2007 Mustang and has been upgraded with the entire running gear from a brand-new Lamborghini Gallardo underneath. It’s powered by a 5.0L 10-cylinder engine backed by a six-speed automatic transmission, and has 2,564 actual miles.
This three-wheel chopper is a one-of-a-kind custom build. It is powered by a 1,600cc dual-port VW engine backed by a four-speed manual transmission. The bike runs and drives well, and features rear air bag suspension and coil springs. It has all-LED lights and is also equipped with a bar that is mounted under the frame of the trike, which can be removed and mounted in the forward position to allow for towing the bike with any standard 2-inch ball. The mount has a flat spot where the front tire sits and is lifted into place on a trailer hitch, leaving just the rear two wheels on the ground for flat towing.
This Shelby GT350 is sporting a $6,800 Liberty Walk wide-body kit, along with air-ride suspension, custom wheels and an Alcantara interior. It’s powered by a 526hp flat-plane-crank 5.2L Voodoo engine backed by a six-speed manual transmission. This Pony is ready for show and go, and has 1,200 actual miles.

CELTIC 4 – 0 RANGERS
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, 26 APRIL 1969
A crowd of over 132,000 filled Hampden Park for this Scottish Cup Final hammering of Rangers. Celtic included eight Lisbon Lions in the starting line-up and Rangers had Alex Ferguson in their team. After Billy McNeill opened the scoring with a powerful header in the first few minutes Celtic went on to add two further first half goals from Bobby Lennox and George Connelly in an amazing minute just before half-time. Stevie Chalmers put the icing on the cake in the second half adding a fourth goal and completing the rout. This match effectively signalled the end of Alex Ferguson’s Rangers career.
  CELTIC 6 – 1 HIBERNIAN
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, 6 MAY 1972
“Unlucky Hibs beaten 6-1” read the headline in The Scotsman. Over 106,000 were at Hampden in green and white to see Celtic hammer a very good Hibernian. This was the Dixie Deans Final as Jock Stein selected a mixture of Lions and his Quality Street teams. Dixie, who had replaced Willie Wallace in the team, scored a hat-trick and Lou Macari grabbed himself a couple – for the Lions captain Billy McNeill scored one and picked up the Cup in the iconic 1970s Cup Final.
  CELTIC 1 -0 RANGERS
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, 7 MAY 1977
Bitter sweet success for Celtic in this Scottish Cup Final – we won the Cup thanks to a converted penalty from the ever reliable Andy Lynch but we lost our superstar captain Kenny Dalglish, who was soon to head down to Liverpool to even more glory that he achieved in our hoops. In a hard found match Rangers used their predictable tactics of kick them and lodge high balls forward. Celtic had the defensive answers with big Shuggie alongside Roddy McDonald winning everything. Pat Stanton was there to sweep everything up and when a Celtic were awarded a penalty after handball on the goal-line to prevent a certain goal – Andy Lynch stepped forward and we just knew that was that. Only 54,000 turned up for this Final despite ticket sales of over 70,000. This was put down to rain and the fact that for the first time since 1955, the Scottish Cup Final was being shown live on TV.
  CELTIC 4 – 2 RANGERS
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE, 21 MAY 1979
Monday nights don’t come any better than this. After a really bad winter a struggling Celtic side had a significant fixture backlog and a considerable points deficit to attempt to make up. Having gone on a winning run from around March the gap was closed and on a warm Monday night in May Celtic had one fixture to fulfil – the postponed match from early January against a Rangers looking to win a Treble. A goal down, then a man down and things were looking bad for this Celtic team that Billy McNeill was beginning to shape. Roared on by the Jungle and driven on by Roy Aitken Celtic scored twice to go into an unlikely lead only to surrender it almost immediately. With time running down a harmless looking George McCluskey cross was headed past Peter McCloy in the Rangers goal to put Celtic in front (Big Roy escorted the ball into the net!) Then it happened – Murdo McLeod attempted to either score or hit the ball as far away into the Celtic End as possible as we entered the final seconds. He failed in the latter but succeeded in the former and ten men had won the League. Unforgettable. Rangers limped past Partick Thistle a few days later to a crowd of just 2000 – the lowest ever (World Record) for a League match at Ibrox.
  CELTIC 1 – 0 RANGERS
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL 10 MAY 1980
“We chased them all over Hampden” was the popular chant the following season after the Scottish Cup Final success against Rangers. The match finished goalless and went to extra time where a scuffed shot by Danny McGrain of all people was deflected past McCloy in the Rangers goal by George McCluskey. A few Celtic fans ran onto the pitch at the final whistle and the Rangers hordes descended from their enclosure behind the goal where the cup was won and a full scale riot ensued, which would have long lasting consequences for Scottish football fans. There would be no alcohol admitted to the terraces after this battle. Celtic won the Cup but the game was more notable for what happened after the Final whistle. Like the so-called Old Firm shame game a few years ago, this incident occurred after a Celtic win. It was always thus. 210 arrests were made from a crowd of 70,303.
  CELTIC 2 – 1 RANGERS
LEAGUE CUP FINAL, 4 DECEMBER 1982
Celtic fans endured torrential rain for the duration of this League Cup Final. Hampden offered no roof for protection – at least not at the Celtic end but that mattered little to the Celtic supporters in the rather small crowd of 55,372. In the first half Celtic battered a Rangers team managed by John Greig and can consider themselves unlucky to be only 2 goals ahead at the internal – just as it was in 1957. The Celtic goals from Murdo McLeod and Charlie Nicholas were both a joy to behold and Billy McNeill’s side was looking like a very good Celtic team indeed. An early second half goal by Jim Bett narrowed the score line and Celtic seemed content to see out the match and lift the cup. The Celtic fans couldn’t have been any wetter or indeed any happier.
  ST.MIRREN 0- 5 CELTIC
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE, 3 MAY 1986 Hearts had literally printed the t-shirts. They wrote that song about being glorious and they travelled to Dens Park virtually certain to be crowned Scottish Champions in early May1986. Celtic needed to score a handful at Love Street and hope that Dundee could beat the Champions Elect and spoil the biggest party Edinburgh could possibly stage – including those that came later for Hogmanay celebrations. Celtic were wonderful in the first half – scoring four times and that was the job done in Paisley. All we could do was wait. A Celtic fan years later went into a bar in Australia. He got talking to this other guy from Scotland but he didn’t at first know whom he was. Eventually the Celtic fan – who is instantly recognisable wherever he goes – realised who he was talking to. The Celtic fan was star stuck. He had met a real hero of his. Far away from Dens Park, in Adelaide Australia Billy Connolly had just bumped into Albert Kidd. The Dundee player who came on as a second half substitute and with seven minutes remaining scored from close range from a rare Dundee corner kick. The roar from Paisley was probably heard in Adelaide –it was certainly heard in Dundee! Then with two minutes left – Albert Kidd, who had not scored all season long before this match, knocked in another and Celtic – now 5-0 ahead at Love Street, were Scottish Champions by a goal difference of 3.
  CELTIC 2 – 1 HEARTS
SCOTTISH CUP SEMI FINAL, 9 APRIL 1988
Celtic’s birthday celebrations were severely threatened after Hearts opened the scoring in the second half after a Hearts player blatantly barged over the Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner. Despite this being one of the clearest fouls on a goalkeeper imaginable the resulting tap in was allowed to stand by the Man in Black and Hearts were one up. Celtic, driven by the superb Paul McStay pushed Hearts back with wave after wave of attacks and as play entered the final moments Celtic’s right back Chris Morris won a corner kick. Hearts keeper, over anxious to get his club to the Final, flapped at the cross and the ball dropped nicely for Celtic substitute Mark McGhee who drilled home an equaliser through a crowded penalty area. The Celtic end exploded. Play resumed and with literally seconds on the clock Frank McAvennie crossed the ball for McGhee who got the better of the hapless Henry and the ball fell to Andy walker to smash Celtic into the Scottish Cup Final and on towards a centenary double.
  CELTIC 2 – 1 DUNDEE UNITED
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, 14 MAY 1988
Same script as the Semi Final producing the same mega party weekend for Celtic fans in our wonderful Centenary season. Ironically it was Celtic legend Patsy Gallagher’s grandson Kevin Gallacher who put Dundee United ahead after out pacing the Celtic defence. Minutes ticked away and it was looking like Celtic would have to settle for the League Championship only. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was the Guest of Honour and was getting ready to rap tangerine ribbons on the Cup when Celtic scored and then scored again in those amazing last two minutes. Frank McAvennie had had plenty of pretty special two minutes in his life up until this point but not even Frankie Bhoy had experienced anything like this. Hampden in the Sun repeated. Celtic 2 Dundee United 1. Happy Birthday Celtic.
  CELTIC 1-0 RANGERS
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, 20 MAY 1989
Rangers, under the arrogance of Souness, funded by David Murray chequebook, were heading for a Treble and Celtic set out to stop them making it. At this time you could feel the tide changing in Scottish football as Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts were all weakening sides as Rangers bought and bought big. We all know now how this was funded but at the time things were looking grim. We were about to enter the 90s and after this match, there wouldn’t be another Celtic/ Rangers Scottish Cup Final for a decade. The great thing about this game on reflection is the fact that Celtic took a quick throw in that should have gone to Rangers and this eventually led to Joe Miller’s goal. This is often used as the one and only example of a refereeing decision going Celtic’s way in these matches. Maybe Bob Valentine felt sorry for us. Maybe he knew what was to come. But just like in 1988, the Celtic fans partied hard that May night in 1989. It would be a while before we could do it again.
  CELTIC 2 – 0 ST. JOHNSTONE
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE, 9 MAY 1998
The week before Celtic could have won the league and stopped Rangers winning Ten in a Row if they had held on to a one goal lead at Dunfermilne. The feeling leaving that ground in Fife that Sunday afternoon was a taste of what was to come years later at Fir Park on Black Sunday. However in 1998 thankfully Celtic had one more chance. They had to beat St Johnstone at Celtic Park. Henrik Larsson scored an early goal to get the party started but the much needed second goal did not arrive. Just after half time and with rangers ahead in their match, St Johnstone had a great opportunity to equalise and 60,000 Celtic hearts were in mouths as the ball flew over the Celtic crossbar. Then up stepped Harold Bratbaak to finish off a sweet Celtic move started by Tommy Boyd, to send the Celtic supporters in Fergus McCann’s stadium into ecstasy. Wim Jansen had done it. He had stopped them doing ten. And for Celtic fans, it was time to party again.
  CELTIC 6- 2 RANGERS
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE, 27 AUGUST 2000
Martin O’Neill had described Rangers as the benchmark. He had spoken to each player in the dressing room before the match to make sure they each believed that they could overcome rangers that day and that season. In context this match is even more special given the level of EBT cheating that we now know was happening behind the scenes at Ibrox at this time. There is no denying the quality of player on display at Celtic park that day. Chris Sutton, a big money Celtic signing from Chelsea, put Celtic ahead and we raced into a 3-0 lead, with Henrik missing a great chance to make it 4. Rangers pulled one back on the stroke of half time though but things were only just getting started. Henrik’s chip goal – one of the finest ever to be scored by a Celtic player was followed by a powerful headed goal. Rangers got another consolation before Chris Sutton finished the way he started by tapping in another goal in the final seconds. This was a demolition of an extravagantly assembled Rangers side.
  RANGERS 0 – 3 CELTIC
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE, 29 APRIL 2001
What wasn’t to like? Henrik Larsson scored his 50th goal of the season at Ibrox and two memorable goals at either side by Lubo Moravcik gave us one of our most enjoyable trips ever to Govan. A greedy young substitute – Sean Maloney – stopped Henrik adding a fourth near the end but by that time three stands were all but empty and the Celtic party was in full swing. Their team was EBT heavy even at that stage and it was left to the bargain basement Celtic stars – Henrik and Lubo with a combined transfer cost of less than £1M – to show real class. Hugh Keevins had said this of Lubo “I don’t know what I find more laughable; the fact that Celtic cannot find £500,000 from their biscuit tin to sign a proven talent like John Spencer, or the fact that they then spent £300,000 on one of Dr. Jo’s old pals, the unknown Lubomir Moravcik!” Who still listens to these people?
  CELTIC 2 – 1 RANGERS
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE, 16 APRIL 2008
Celtic were chasing Rangers for the title but had to win to keep our hopes alive. Shunsuke Nakamura scored his first goal against Rangers and what a screamer it was, to give Celtic a deserved lead. In the second hallf Walter Smith sent on Nacho Novo to try to grab an equaliser against the run of play and the horrible little Spaniard duly delivered catching Artur Boruc out as the Celtic goalkeeper got his angles all wrong. Celtic pushed forward and with twenty minutes remaining another Nakamura shot was stopped on the line by the outstretched hands of Carlos Cuellar. After the Rangers defender was sent off Scott McDonald tamely hit the Celtic penalty and an injured Allan McGregor was able to dive to his left to save. Celtic’s championship challenge was all but over as play entered the final minute. Gary Caldwell showed great composure to summon up one final assault on the Rangers goal. His precise pass to the head of Scott McDonald resulted in the little striker heading across goal for the flying Dutchman Jan Vennegoor of Heselink to head past the substitute goalkeeper Alexander to put Celtic ahead. The Championship would be won at Tannadice by another Hesselink header but the stuffing was knocked out of Rangers that night.
  CELTIC 3 -0 RANGERS
SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE , 29 APRIL 2012
This was the last ever Celtic versus Rangers match as the Ibrox club were about to be liquidated. Celtic dominated them and easily won the match by three clear goals. Gary Hooper will go down in Celtic history for scoring the last ever goal against Rangers. This game was more an occasion than an important match, The Green Brigade produced their best ever banners to see Rangers out the door of Scottish football and the LIQUDATION LIQUIDATION NA NA NA chats were just something to behold. Celtic fans had endured the honest mistakes, the dodgy dealings, EBT scams the lot – and here they were in complete and utter triumph, while the defeated Rangers army had only their sectarian songs of hate, sung with a death rattle. But it was all over Celtic had won.
  CELTIC 5-1 SEVCO RANGERS
SPFL, 10 SEPTEMBER 2016
Charles Green’s bundle of assets made their long than expected journey through the lower leagues to get to the top league, which was now the SPFL. During this period in the three lower leagues, including the old Third Division they were unable to go through the season without suffering a league defeat, losing at places like Stirling Albion while in the third division. Brendan Rodgers pointed this out this week – an excellent little dig ahead of this Saturday’s match. Moussa Dembele came in for the injured Leigh Griffiths and scored a wonderful hat-trick to announce himself as a hugely talented striker. Scotty Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong got the other goals as Scott Brown put the big mouth Joey Barton in his place. His career in Scotland was effectively ended that afternoon and the Sevcovians, who had been sold the ludicrous proposition of ‘Going for 55′ during the season ticket selling season, got a reality cheque.
  MOTHERWELL 3- 4 CELTIC
SPFL, 3 DECEMBER 2016
Unbeaten Celtic were 2-0 down at the interval. Lustig should have had a free-kick in the build up to the second goal and it looked like the Invincible opportunity would end on this back of this honest mistake. But Celtic had a manager who has the match instincts necessary to find the answers and his Celtic side reached a new level in belief and self confidence after a remarkable second half. Rodgers changed the formation, using the midfield diamond that is now established as his plan B and how it worked. McGregor and Roberts got Celtic level before unbelievably Motherwell almost immediately went 3-2 ahead. Rather than the wind being knocked out of their sail, Celtic responded brilliantly and within a minute Armstrong scored a beautiful goal. And rather than settle for a point Tom Rogic, not for the first time in his Celtic career and also not for the last in this season, popped up with a wonderful last minute winner. Rogic only ever scores magnificent goals and this one was special. After that game at Fir Park the support started to talk about becoming Invincibles.
    SEVCO RANGERS 1 -5 CELTIC
SPFL, 29 APRIL 2017
Celtic had outplayed and outclassed Sevco Rangers at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final six days earlier but the Sevcovians hoped for a different outcome on their own patch the following Saturday. How wrong they were. In his book The Road to Paradise reveals how gutted Scotty Sinclair was at missing two real sitters in this game. Celtic won 5-1 but it could easily have been 7 or 8. Lustig’s celebrations after he scored the fifth goal will never be forgotten as he ran arms stretched wide with his shirt over his head to the corner flag. This was an afternoon of undiluted misery for the Ibrox fans as Celtic rubbed their noses in it.  The goals came from Sinclair from the penalty spot after Roberts was brought down, Griffiths, McGregor (his second in a week against them), Boyata with a brilliant header an Lustig after a great run through their defence.
  CELTIC 2 – 1 ABERDEEN 
SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, 27 MAY 2017
Celtic had had a fairytale season, the first with Brendan Rodgers in charge. And of course they club and the supporters around the world had been honouring the success of the Lisbon Lions 50 years earlier in winning the European Cup. Celtic had already won the League Cup back in November against Aberdeen with a comfortable 3-0 win and had secured the title at the start of April with a thumping 5-0 win away to Hearts. There had been no opportunity to take the foot off the gas however as Celtic got closer and closer to the Invincible status everyone at the club so desperately wanted. Hearts were back at Celtic Park for trophy day, the week before the Cup Final and Celtic won to ensure that they were invincible in the league campaign. But victory in the Scottish Cup Final would mean a treble, an invincible season and the perfect way to honour the Lions. Jonny Hayes hadn’t read the script though and he gave Aberdeen the lead. Celtic kicked off and passed the ball about – the next time an Aberdeen touched the ball it was to pick it out of their net after Armstrong equalised. And so it remained. Celtic dominated the second half with no further scoring the match reached its last minute before extra time had to be played. The heavens opened. Lightening hit the Hampden turf just behind Tom Rogic who gathered the ball and almost in slow motion with the rain bouncing of the turf strolled past two defenders and from an impossible angle found a gap at Lewis’ near post. The water fell from the net as the ball landed unexpectedly in it and there was pure joy all three quarters of Hampden. Tom Rogic had done it again, the fairytale was complete. Grown men  with green and white scarves shed a tear or two. It was wonderful.
This is how it feels to be Celtic.
