Ears ring amongst the chaos, the smoke, the panic. The extremely loud sound reverberates in the ear canal and into the drum. A man sprints before us, clutching his own severed arm (à la guy on the beach in Saving Private Ryan, 1998.) It is now Thursday, and the sound is moderate, and we know that things will never be the same. We know it, yet we do not say it.
The Loud Sound of 2023 fascinates us for the same reason Boat Got Stuck enthralled us - it's a very simple, truly shared (US at least) experience, and therefore communal, and in these isolating times, such fellowship is painfully few and far between, so we go fucking feral at everybody hearing A Loud Sound all at once. It's both sad and cute at the same time; I love humans. And loud. Don't forget that.
