Happy birthday, shirakumo.

May 5th.

This date always brought back pain that was thought to be long gone by now, even after all these years.

How old would he be now? Thirty-one? Thirty-two? Perhaps they'd lost count, but Aizawa and Yamada knew it was similar to their own.

Well, it wasn't that they'd lost count, per say, but more that it was too painful to recount just the number of years that Shirakumo had missed out on.

But, around it came again, as it did every year. May 5th. Oboro's birthday. The pain this date caused each year resurfaced, like the old wound was fresh again. Yet still, they celebrated.

That's what he would've wanted, wasn't it?

So the pair bought a small cake, and a candle. They lit it and sang a quiet happy birthday for their friend. Holding back their tears and telling him how much they loved and missed him, and how much they wished he could've been there with them at that moment so that they could give cards and gifts and celebrate properly.

And he heard them.

He always heard them, each and every word. He was glad that they hadn't forgotten over all these years, that they still held a small celebration in his honour even though it hrut them.

Oboro always spent this night listening to his friends, even if they didn't know he was. He was up in the clouds, where he belonged, listening to them speak. He heard Aizawa mention that they'd be up there with him "soon enough".

How he hoped there'd be so many more nights like this one before then, perhaps even happier ones. He just hoped that it wasn't too soon when they finally joined him.

Happy birthday, Shirakumo. We miss you.
