Louien announces new EP; shares lead single ‘Better Woman’

Norwegian indie folk act, Louien, has announced her new EP No Tomorrow on Jansen Records, and shared lead single ‘Better Woman’.

Emerging from Nesodden, a peninsula in the Oslo fjord, Live Miranda Solberg (Louien) dealt with the trauma left behind by her father’s death on her 2019 debut album None of My Words. Content to have explored that process on record, No Tomorrow - which arrives June 4 - finds Solberg unburdened, writing songs of and for the now. In one single day you encounter a whole host of moods and emotions and No Tomorrow is a reflection of that; it’s unpredictable, intuitive and demands you come along with its every whim.

Lead single ‘Better Woman’ begins with dirgy guitars that sound like a nest of agitated rattlesnakes before untangling into a shimmering, kaleidoscopic chorus that flounces with the ease of a summer dress blowing in the wind.

“’Better Woman’ is about an argument between a woman and her partner, someone she’s in love with, but she doesn’t know how to get through to. So, she blames it on her lack as a woman; that she isn’t good enough, warm enough, funny enough. She wishes she didn’t have so many feelings. Maybe she even wishes she was a man”, explains Solberg.

Louien shares new single 'Deep Within' 

Norwegian indie folk act, Louien, has shared her latest single ‘Deep Within’ - the second single from her forthcoming EP, No Tomorrow, which arrives via Jansen Recordings on June 4.

“’Deep Within’ is about when a change is coming, when you feel the fibres of your body change. When you’ve worked so hard to feel better and do better, and you can feel how it pays off”, says Solberg of the track.

It’s yet another showcase of the diversity that awaits on the forthcoming EP. ‘Better Woman’ was picked with dirgy, visceral guitars, whilst yet-to-be released tracks, Woke Up From The Dead’ and ‘Fire’ echo the Courtney Marie-Andrews-like country of Solberg’s other project, Silver Lining, and the understated classic folk songwriting of Townes Van Zandt and Gillian Welch.

Erratic in style and mood, it’s that multiplicity which connects the songs on No Tomorrow. Louien follows path after path to capture exactly what the emotion is that has prevailed upon her, always returning to the same starting point.

“I wanted to play around a bit more, not take myself or the songs too seriously as the debut was very heavy and took years to write. I mean, writing a thoroughly happy song might still be out of my reach, but I’m trying to get more than one perspective in there”, adds Solberg.
