the "aid" the US sent is 9 years expired food MREs that they can't cook because they don't have enough clean drinking water to make it edible. It's expired, by at least nine years. They stopped including the Tabasco sauces in MREs in 2015.
How are Gazans meant to make these? You need water to rehydrate the food. If they get food poisoning from eating nearly a decade old food, what do you think will happen to them? To the people who have been starving for months and are impoverished and malnourished? Who don't have the water and nutrients you need to heal yourself from sickness? And to top it all off, the food is Haram. They sent mostly pork and other haram meals. And halal MREs exist. They knew that most Gazans are Muslim and chose to not send the halal food. it's disgusting, it's horrid. The US and all of its leaders are evil and vile

Government Response to Hurricane Katrina
Tumblr media
Today marks the 18th year since Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana.
Not only did Americans have to suffer the tragedy of the storm, they also had to suffer the tragedy of an incompetent government’s response to it.

Today, on its second birthday, Norco remains one of the best written games ever, and one of my personal favourites!
Here’s my old video essay on the game, and the ways people turn space into place:

It felt like 100 degrees at 7am.
Heat index last year stayed at 114-115. Cruising into 120 is terrifying.

August 29, 2005
A ugust 29, 2005. Eighteen years. A lot of time has passed, things have changed, people are lost. Today is the eighteenth year after life in New Orleans was forever changed when Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Buras, Louisiana, spun to the left and hit New Orleans with a glancing blow. If it had hit head on, the city likely wouldn’t exist today. Evacuation came a little late, we left on…

In Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we learn that Sam Wilson is from Delacroix, Lousiana. As it happens, there actually IS a place in Lousiana called Delacroix however it looks nothing like the place in the TV show (which was actually filmed in Georgia). Apparently Delacroix has a deep Spanish history and was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Katrina. But there is no trace of these things in the tv series. Seriously, sometimes I feel like these writers are just adding random stuff to people's backstories without even thinking through the implications.

Hurricane Katrina will remain in history as an indictment of capitalism and the white supremacy inherent in the system.

I stayed through hurricane Ida because of work, because I didn’t manage to get gas in time, and because I definitely didn’t realize how bad it would be. But the singular image that has stuck with me was seeing mobs of sea birds flying north, and that was the moment of “I’ve made a huge mistake.” I finished my last beer, my last cigarette and my last chocolate way too early in the ordeal… Candlelit reading, walking deserted and damaged streets, and making sure my cat was comfortable were also memorable
