something that's always been a life goal of mine is to write the kinds. of love letters that make the sun rise. i want to make my lovers feel so thoroughly seen and adored that it chases out any doubt that they may not deserve it, or that they can't be desired, or that there is something about them that bars them from being held and warmed. i want to write the kind of letters people keep by their bedside even if we break up, not necessarily because they miss me but because they are proof even in the darkest of times that love is real and that they've tasted it and that they'll taste it again. the kind of writing that has heat like the soft glow of embers is, again and again, what i gravitate towards, and is what i hope to put out.

i often sign off "love, always." and it often doesn't mean "i will always love you." it means, what i am giving you now is yours forever, to keep and warm your hands by.

Happy Black History Month

Your history is often erased for the comfort of those who wronged you. I know what that’s like and I’m sorry. May all non-Black folks use this time to learn about the amazing contributions you have made to America and to the world at large, and may we also use this time to reflect on the wrongs we have committed against you and to commit to dismantling oppression against you now and in the future. I love you. You matter.

To Black Jews Specifically:

I love you. I see you. I’m so glad you exist.

I know we are all going through A Time™️ right now, and that this is all especially hard on y’all. I see your guys’ posts here and on other platforms saying how you feel abandoned by western lefties for being Jewish and idiot white/white-passing Jews who erase and exclude you.

I unequivocally condemn any member of our shared community using this time to alienate you or make you feel unwelcome. You are always welcome. This is your home. You belong here. I love you. I don’t care how you got here—whether you converted or were raised in the community. We’re all equal Members of the Tribe. I validate and respect your specific unique pain in all of this and I also share the pain that affects us all right now. This month is yours, too. May all non-Black Jews use this time to affirm their solidarity to our Black brothers and sisters and to not allow anything to get in its way.
