HI @rainbowghostcat and @boxx-sama -- I have been enabled so I'm here to ramble a bit about my faves >:3 Top three are definitely Fuuta, Mahiru, and Yuno! Good taste gang !!🤝✨✨✨

It's a mix of enjoying their songs, genuinely getting into their stories, and relating to them just enough to go a little crazy asdfsd :') Shidou comes in at a close 4th, I love him a lot but I'm not as insane as I am about these guys lmao.

I was holding onto these asks to ramble when I had the time/energy but uuuuhhh I didn't mean to go on for so long sorry 😭 Woe, 03 06 02 thoughts be upon ye...

Starting with Fuuta!! His character has everything – He’s cool, he’s lame, he’s terrifying, he’s tragic, he’s funny, he’s unbearably real, he’s my silly little guy, he makes me cry, etc. The core of his character that always gets me is how normal he is. How he’s probably closest to the majority of the audience – he (and Kazui) are the only ones who did not have murder on their mind at all. He anticipated harm, but the thought of someone dying never once crossed his mind. He’s right around teens/early twenties. He engages with the online world a lot. So many milgram fans are in that age range, on the internet a lot (in order to enjoy the project and its fanbase), feel a strong sense of justice (since they’re so engaged in a project about morality), and aren’t in any situation dramatic enough that they expect anyone to die. He’s so much like all of us. 

Continuing on that, his heart really is in the right place to start. He cares deeply about people and society, which is why he wants to fix it. His vision is a bit small, focusing on petty issues rather than huge social issues, but the point is he cares. He attacks Es because he’s trying to be the brave representative after hearing Haruka and Yuno were attacked. He yells at Kazui and Mahiru because they’re not helping the others. He takes care of Haruka. He gives Mahiru a birthday gift even when he has nothing to give. 

His biggest issue is, he doesn’t belong. I’ve written up a whole analysis on how he’s written very neurodivergent: he misses social cues, he’s on the outskirts of friendships and groups. It’s more clear in characters like Haruka and Muu, but Fuuta is just as incredibly desperate for attention. For love. For that feeling of belonging in a group. His knightly fantasies aren’t ones of violence and weapons – they’re mostly scenes of him surrounded by a close-knit party of adventurers who are cheering him on. 

All of this together is what makes him so compelling and so tragic to me. All the characters are human and real, but he’s the closest to a lot of viewers (myself included). He let the attention get to his head for just a bit too long, let himself get swept away in finally having friends. He got distracted thinking that the focus of being a hero was defeating, and not protecting. And all it took was a brief time of getting drunk on this attention, and now he has a little girl’s blood on his hands. It makes me absolutely insane.

I also think he’s such a cool special case because he truly got a taste of his own medicine. The other characters are being judged in an unfamiliar way, but he is being scrutinized in the Exact same way that Fuuta pried open others’ privacy. He was attacked and almost died because of Es’ judgment, just as his victim was attacked because of his judgment. The process of Milgram is putting him in his victim’s shoes, and it’s so cool to see.

Aaaaand on a lighter note – he’s just so fun!! He’s my little skrunkly fr!!! I love his shit-eating grin. I love his ridiculous laugh. I love his crooked teeth. I love the knight theme, and the fire symbolism. It’s pretty standard, but it suits him perfectly. He’s got such cool, badass songs! I’m obsessed with his voice, both his singing and vd performances are incredible. His vds are the only ones I’ll listen to often and out of the blue – Arthur Lounsbery uses such an interesting and fun voice for him ;--; His design is so fun (apparently I have a Type for redhead characters…), and his t2 development and design were amazing! There has been no other Milgram character that I want to reach through the screen and shake violently by the shoulders and also hug so badly 😂

I’m so obsessed with her theme of ‘being so kind that it causes harm’!! Because it’s very easy to dismiss the other characters as unforgivable when you look at the harm they wanted to cause their victim, or disregard they had for their victim’s feelings. But Mahiru… she doesn’t want to cause any harm. At all. She took her boyfriend’s feelings into consideration so much so that she didn’t stop him when she definitely should have. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and yet she fucked up big time!! It’s such a unique type of murder!! The other characters need to be sat down and told “don’t hurt innocents, don’t seek revenge, don’t be selfish, etc” and then Mahiru is over here like “don’t be… nice to people.” Because it’s not about being nice per se – it’s about not being a doormat. 

(I know her story is still a bit mysterious – my running theory is that her bf had health issues completely separate from their relationship. They started getting bad and he started to consider suicide. Instead of stopping him, Mahiru combined her need to copy her lover (as seen a lot in TIHTBILWY), her ideas that lovers do everything together, and her belief that one should do anything they set their mind to (as seen in her comments about Es/Kotoko and the attack). She says she’ll join him, make it a lovers’ suicide, but doesn’t follow through at the last second.)

She (and Mikoto) have really interesting themes of how not caring for yourself can actually hurt others. They put all their efforts into giving back to others, to society, fitting into the norms and expectations, not questioning others, and it backfires catastrophically. If she had stood up for herself and her relationship, she would not have assumed anyone deserved to die. She would have known that it wasn’t up to her alone to deal with her bf’s mental issues. She obviously wasn’t handling it correctly (rats….) but she didn’t need to! She should have pointed him to professionals instead of deciding she deserved to die along with him! But she was so poisoned by society’s expectations of being the perfect girlfriend and being considerate of others…

She’s just such a tragic case because the power of love is supposed to be perfect. She’s been taught her whole life that it’s wonderful and magical and pure. Who can kill with the power of love, after all? I can completely understand her denial of the situation, because I also wouldn’t picture a terrifying, dark scene if I knew I was only being nice for my whole life! 

And her crime aside – she’s super fun :3 She has The Most Fun songs, she’s full of energy and excitement and enthusiasm! (out of the various english covers I like, hers is the one I jam out to most often hehe). She’s the most stunning character there! I’m a sucker for sunshine-coded characters 🌻🌻🌻I think she has the best symbols out of everyone, between the birdcage and the carousel. The fact that both Mahiru and her bf could be the bird and the cage. The two symbols representing beautiful things that can be trapping. Representing cycles. Representing relationships. I know the hourglass is a popular one but I think this is Yamanaka's finest set of symbols. I am unwell about it. So yeah, rather than give her a good shake I want to yank her right out of there – Get in loser we’re gonna get you some self-love!!!!

And a slightly shorter rant on Yuno because that was a lot adfsdf. Ad I'm aware of the irony that one of my points is that it kinda sucks how most rants on Yuno are cut short :( The thing is, she’s been very honest about her crime, and most people have considered her issue in a context outside of Milgram so they already have a pretty good idea on where their vote stands. Despite being the “obvious” innocent one, she really is the most emotionally charged character imo. It’s easy to relate to the other characters and feel knee-jerk reaction, but none have been so widely discussed as abortion and sex work. I can talk openly about everyone else and get into a nice discussion on morals and emotions, but Yuno is the one character I have to talk very, very carefully around. Whether I’m rambling about Milgram to my family or interacting with new fans, I never know what’s acceptable to say without falling into a whole debate on politics.

So, if it’s made me into someone who keeps quiet and skirts around things, I shudder to imagine the amount of lying/masking Yuno herself must do on a daily basis. I can easily avoid the topic if I choose to – she was dealing with that debate long before coming to Milgram, and is currently dealing with debates and judgements and insults and pity surrounding it. She’s naturally strong so I think fans often forget all the shit that this 18yo is dealing with on a daily basis, and how effortless she’s making it look <3

5 seasons. so many characters. so many losses. we have never seen this much emotion from anyone. i can hardly joke right now but he really embodied "don't you just wanna go apeshit?" i consume so much fucking media and this is new even for me. callum has never even had a temper. through all of this--getting kidnapped, abused, mentally and physically, seeing what his friends are going through--he hasn't broke. and then, seeing his biggest fear, the thing he's been plagued with for years, the thing we've seen him throw away his life to prevent, comes true, and he loses it. the scream, grunt & inhale, the speed, the aggression, the fucking expression. it's not hard to see how what happened next happened, i'm surprised he didn't do worse.

every threat or demand finnegrin has made and callum has done nothing but scour. he has been as strong as anyone can be. and all of a sudden here he is crying out for mercy, pleading, bargaining, the lowest we've ever seen him. it hurts, but finnegrin was right.

his defeat. we know this is because of... literally everything he has ever stood for being demolished. but his personal moral catastrophe aside, don't you find it interesting how he did all of that to keep rayla safe, and yet he never once went to her? i made another post abt this but i'm saying it again: rayla told him not to. and she believed in him. she's safe, but i don't think he thought he really saved her. he doesn't think he deserves anything she's giving him. he refuses to indulge in her, he refuses to confide in her, he refuses to seek her out. but he just saved her life. but that's not enough. not enough to resolve this within himself, and apparently not enough for the girl who's life he has saved twice now, who has stuck by him for years, who has dedicated everything to him, to be able to be okay with it. and he just kind of... accepts it. he doesn't beg for forgiveness, that being said he doesn't tell her either. this may seem like he's protecting himself, that he really just doesn't want to lose her, that he doesn't want to face this at all, but maybe it's him not wanting to disappoint her. yknow i really hate to be one of those people who ignores how basically all of callum's character surrounds his own internal conflict in favor of rayllum fan service, but fuck it's hard no to sometimes. he wants to be her hero, but he isn't; not to himself, anyway. this would always be the case. and yet... he did it all anyway. if that isn't unconditional, i'm jumping off a bridge.

✨✨SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE "THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING" ✨✨

So, i just got back from seeing this movie, starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. It is a movie a about a woman (tilda) who is a scholar that specializes in stories, finding a bottle while on a lecture tour in Istanbul, which happens to contain a Djinn (Idris). Per the standard fashion, the Djinn grants Tilda 3 wishes, as his freedom is bound to the completion of the 3rd wish (meaning as long as he actually fulfills the 3rd wish, he is instantly freed, there need not be a wish for freedom, which is a nice touch imo)

The entire plot of the movie is the Djinn telling Tilda how he came to be imprisoned 3 times over the last 3000 years, most of which was due to him falling in love with a woman, starting with the Queen of Sheba, and him being imprisoned by King Solomon, because Solomon didnt want to compete with the Djinn. Im not going to go through the entire plot of the movie, but its important to note that he loved Sheba, and his love for her is what caused his imprisonment, and what stipulated his powers, as the imprisonment was a curse, not just a matter of course.

This Djinn's wish granting power is not just for any frivolous desire, like endless wealth, or a good sandwich. His detainment into the bottle was due to his hearts deepest desire, and thusly, he cannot fulfill any wish unless it is truly of the wisher's hearts desire. Tilda refuses to make any rash decisions, as she has an extensive education in history and mythology, and is insodoing well versed in the stories of wishes and genies and djinn, and requests him to tell her how he become locked up in his series of bottles, trying to discern whether he is a Trickster Djinn.

The Djinn goes in depth, telling the stories of his fate, his love, his loss, his torture in a half-state of existence, his new love, and reimprisonment, again through the millennia. After hearing the stories of how much his love and lost love has cost him through the ages, Tilda makes her first wish, which, to me, really threw the movie WAY off pace, and took it down several pegs in my book... Tilda wishes for the Djinn to love her. She wishes for the Djinn to love her, and her to love him, so they might end their solitude together.

This is about 2/3 of the film through, leading into the final act. Tilda heard how the Djinn fell in love with his previous masters, after having been devoted to them for years and years, through learning them and their passions and desires, who they were as people, and falling for them for who they were... And after (seemingly) an hour or so, she wishes for the same thing they had, and is granted it by the Djinn.

Now, obviously, this is the point, which they even explicitly mention towards the end, that Tilda has wished for something you cannot ask for, that can only be given, which in a way, is a new kind of prison. She binds the Djinn to her, believes his affection to be genuine and real (which it is, for all intents and purposes), until she realizes several weeks later, that the Djinn is dying because she has bound him to the mortal realm by refusing to make her remaining wishes, and keeping him tied to the plane of mortals.

I dont know what im trying to say here, as im not really making a point, so much as stating what happened, but that turn of events just... (Excuse the pun) Rubbed me the wrong way. The tone of the film up to that point did not seem to be leading to that conclusion, in my opinion. I think i could write an entire essay about this film, my opinions on it, and the symbolism and message both presented and implied.

**bonus: the airline she flies into Istanbul on is the "Sharazad", or Scheherazade, of One Thousand and One Nights fame, and her name is Alithea, as in the greek goddess of Truth.

No one asked but fuck it, here's my thoughts on all the swimsuit sprites for danganronpa

Makoto 9/10

I actually really love when they put makoto in boring clothes. Its always so perfect for him. That said, it IS still kinda boring

Kiyotaka 6/10

Honestly the more I look at it the more I enjoy it. I did have an initial "no no NO" reaction, but Honestly the more I think about it the more I can see him wearing it, and when people comment on it, him defending it as "standard swimwear" and it gives him "less resistance when swimming". However the look of it is pretty boring and it makes his legs look far too long. Also he is far too ripped

Byakuya 7/10

Its pretty much fine, it looks a lil uncomfortably tight, and I wish the gold was more evenly distributed throughout the suit. The strong emphasis the gold puts around the junk is.... not my favorite. But otherwise it looks fine, and yay no abs

Mondo 8/10

Its basically just his coat as swim trunks, they look fine, no real notes. Its solid.

Exactly what I'd expect for leon. I really dig the jacket and the gradient on the trunks. The outfit is really solid. The pose they chose is an odd choice but no points lost. Made me Google if baseball players have/ should have abs, ive decided they're fine

I should note that a good chunk of the scoring is based on how fitting it is for the characters, rather than the look itself. Hifumi would 100% wear swim trunks of his favorite character, regardless of how it looks. Its just fine.

Oh thank God. I was so worried about what they'd do for chihiro and honestly its good. Its *slightly* more feminine than I'd go, but it absolutely works. Bright blue and yellow feels like a bit of an odd choice for him, but its still pretty flattering on them.

Its fine i guess? The shawl is a bit odd, and could go for a bit more pink,but otherwise its fine.

It's pretty basic, but it fits. Personally I'd have put her in something either high waisted or a one-piece, but it works. I love the gloves with it.

It'd be hard to find something that doesn't work for her at all,and this one is fine. Its a bit of a weird color for her skintone though. Maybe a blue or a different shade of yellow would be better.

I. Am. Obsessed. I really love the sash, and how it along with the gradient on the bikini changes depending on which of them is fronting. She looks really cute and I think its perfect for her.

Its cute and frilly and she looks beautiful! Its what she deserves. My only note is I'd have picked a less saturated shade of pink. Otherwise perfect 👌

Definitely better than byakuya's. The white is nice on him and is less of a contrast with the gold than black is, which helps a lot. I think he looks great.

It looks really cute on her! They actually picked a flattering shade for her skin tone. The wrap is a little bit long and I can't tell if its supposed to be bulky or if Sonia just got wide ass hips. But she looks cute.

Wouldn't expect blue but its cute. However the white dots on blue combined with her red hair makes my dumb American brain think 4th of July :/. I think she'd look cuter in a gingham pattern but this works just fine.

I can smell the fanservice coming off of this one. The white of her bikini and bandages makes her seem really washed out, and the bandages look really odd with that style of bikini. Not a fan.

Oh noooooo what the hell is that? My poor girl, she looks like she bought a shitty cave person Halloween costume, someone stole half of it, and she decided to wear it anyway. It doesn't fit himiko at all, and aside from that it looks terrible. I simply do not believe that himiko wouldn't wear something more "magical" looking. Maybe like purple with some ruffles? Or something with a shawl? Who the hell decided to put her in a one shoulder brown bikini?! I hate it.

I really dig the straps and the slightly desaturated red. Give her some abs and its perfect.

Do I believe tenko has good fashion sense? No. Do I believe she'd wear a pink gingham bikini? Also no. It just feels too preppy and feminine for her. Not that she isn't feminine at all, but I think a cool color and either a one-piece or shorts would fit way better.

Its suitably boring,but the color feels a little off for her skin tone. Maybe if she and hina swapped color schemes, they'd both be better.

Its cute, but its literally just her v3 outfit without the yellow shawl. Paintbrushes and everything. Its a bit disappointing.

Of course Miu would wear a leopard print bikini. It absolutely fits her. Maybe they could have done more, but I'm satisfied with it.

The blue is a weird choice for her. If she and tenko swapped thatd work a little better. I just think it'd be nice if they kept her in her signature colors.

V3 average: 7/10, definitely my least favorite overall but its still good.

Tips for ✨not dying✨ during online school

[brought to you by: a high schooler who hasn’t died yet✨]

To avoid headaches - If you’re staring at a screen for hours at a time, a good way to avoid headaches is turning on night mode / night light. On a computer, you can go to your system settings, go into the ‘display’ section, and turn on night mode, which filters out blue light and can help your head ✨not die✨

Water - Keep a water bottle near you, drink glasses periodically, whatever you gotta do. H2O is also essential for avoiding headaches and for feeling generally okay, whatever your definition of ‘generally okay’ may be. Water helps you ✨not die✨

To save your muscles - any time you have a break, stand up (if you can). Just at least stand up. Stretch, even. As long as you take a small break from being in the same spot all day, your muscles will ✨not die✨

Organize the way you like - whether you prefer a clear space or a cozy little clutter of stuff, make sure you have the materials you need readily accessible and that you know where they are. (Also, knick knacks. Got a fidget you like? Keep it nearby!) Organization isn’t necessarily having everything shoved in a closet - it’s just knowing where things are. Feeling good in your own space is a good way to ✨not die✨

Clothes - do what makes you feel comfortable but also productive. If you feel good in sweatpants, then go for it, but if you need your fancy clothes to feel like a Busy Businessperson, then wear your fancy clothes. As long as you feel like you can work. (Unless you’re like me and you have to wear a uniform. Yay Catholic school. At least you only have to put on the top half?) Be comfy and you will ✨not die✨
