what kind of snacks do you think aaron eats? like it’s probably different at the office / in the field / at home / working out don’t you think?
omg i completely agree!!!!!! <3 tw food
in the office, more often than not, it's whatever the bullpen's kitchenette has to offer - granola bars, assorted fruits, things like that. but since they're on the bland side, he mainly relies on snacks he brings from home, or he does have a box of microwave popcorn stored in one of his office cupboards. i also like to think - eventually he does have a drawer solely for snacks, for jack and any other kiddos when they visit 🥹
speaking of, at home: more homemade, healthy snacks. he's big on celery and peanut butter - getting a vegetable in, as well as the nutrients peanut butter provides. aaron's totallyyyyyy guilty of picking through jack's snacks too - goldfish crackers, fruit roll ups, fruit snacks. he's not a fan of chips - either too salty or greasy. but they are in the house because jack likes them/they'll go in his lunch every so often. however, aaron loves tortilla chips and guac/salsa 🫶🏻 big fan of hummus and pita too!!!
in the field, uncrustables. they're easy, he stores them in his briefcase, and it's something that can act as either a quick snack or a small lunch. it's good on the go too - for example, if he needs to go interview a witness or to a crime scene, he'll eat one en route in the car. he doesn't mind the strawberry jelly ones, but prefers grape
as for working out - smoothies (pb and banana, strawberry and banana), greek yogurt with granola, protein shakes, lots of water. he'll drink chocolate milk occasionally too 🫶🏻
and before you - aaron considered coffee a snack 😭 but you were quick to veto that - you were like yeah absolutely not you need something on your stomach and coffee does not cut it 😭

In the Batman headcannons, you said he carries snacks for each of his kids. What do you think each kid prefers?
I said he HIDES snacks from them 😂. The man just loves him some occasional junk food and lives in a house full of kids. He totally has a mini snickers 6 pack hidden in a book safe in his study.
But I'd imagine ALFRED is the one to pack snacks for the kids- Canonically he's the one that gets mother's day cards. So. Here goes.
Dick- Fluffernutter sammich Jason- Goldfish crackers and or oreos. Tim- Snickers OR if pressed a take 5 Damian- Carrots and hummus- A hassle to pack for missions but the kid is just... A hassle full stop. Cass- Chocolate Chip cookies, store-bought in a hurry but homemade is best. Stephanie- Chocolate frosted donuts Duke- Apples and Caramel

yesterday I tried omnivore in Montreal for the first time, it was good!
Besides dissociating for a while before going, I had a fun time the restaurant was empty around 5:30 on a Monday, the interior design was nice but a little boring compared to how maximalist the outside sign of the restaurant was like.
I liked their hummus alez and their crispy spicy potatoes, both very good both hard to fuck up and they didn't!
For a main I got their chicken sandwich with the pineapple chutney, I feel as though it was missing a component that would've brought everything together, the pita was nice the chutney was fun but the chicken itself felt like it was missing.
one thing I noticed was that the pita for the sandwich and the pita for the hummus side seemed different obviously one was toasted and the other wasn't, but they both felt like two different versions of store bought pitas which was weird! neither was bad, but coming off of my experience at Sumac in St Henri anything besides a homemade pita at that price feels off.
I also had the house lemonade, which was ok I don't think it was exactly for me as was missing some sugar but I still really enjoyed it.
Overall I think this is a spot with a lot of ambition to be a step-up version of Boustan's in the nicest way possible. I love Boustan's, but Omnivore falls inbetween something like Sumac or Falafel Yoni, with smaller menus but more precise execution.
I think Omnivore needs a breath of fresh air, bring those cooks closer to the window!! they're so far away. let them see the light and hopefully there will be a little more light in the food as well!

Super Sal Market, 17630 Ventura Blvd, Los Angeles (Encino), CA 91316
Tumblr media
Super Sal has been open for years. I think I went years ago. Recently, Tel Aviv Authentic Kitchen opened inside Super Sal, making it the only market in the country with a Tel Aviv. They even sell Tel Aviv’s dips and salads in their cold case near the meat/fish department. Whoa. You can probably tell that I love Tel Aviv (casual Israeli café).
Super Sal also looks better (I think they remodeled?) than I remember. It’s a fairly large kosher market – not as large as Vons or Ralph’s but more like a Sprouts size. They claim to carry the largest variety of grocery items from Israel in the San Fernando Valley. There’s also a deli, meat/fish department (they have seasoned meat like shawarma), kosher sushi, homemade salads and their own line of baked goods. The thick Israel pitas I picked up were still warm from the oven. And there are baked goods from Sam’s and Angel Bakery, including pita, sangak, buns, Jerusalem bagels, lavash, and more.
You can also get spices, produce, ice cream, dairy, cheese, frozen food, canned food, pasta, snacks, nuts, wine, household essentials, toiletries, candles, etc. There’s a parking lot behind the store. I think Western Kosher has a better selection of hummus and baked goods but they do not have a Tel Aviv inside.
My picks:
Super Sal pita (5 for $5.99): Super thick, Israeli style
Classic hummus, 17 oz, $6.99 -
Super Sal hummus, $7.83 -  thick & smooth, Israeli style, made in-house
Don’t forget to save room to eat at Tel Aviv.
5 out of 5 stars

top 5 snacks
This is a great question because I'm such a snack person. My ideal meal is not like an entree but just a variety of different snacks. I love tapas. I love an hors d'oeuvre.
Any kind of good homemade bread with something on it. Bruschetta or crostini or even just crusty bread with good butter and salt. Lately I've been on a tapenade kick too. Good quality tapenade on some baguette? Unparalleled.
Hummus with pita or cucumber slices. Has to be homemade hummus though. The texture of store bought is never quite right for me.
Chips with queso--the Tex-Mex kind of queso that's basically just velveeta and Rotel, lol.
Heirloom tomatoes with some olive oil or basalmic drizzle. Or maybe a full caprese salad, but that doesn't so much count as a snack I guess.
...French fries. My favorite food and my guilty pleasure, sadly. French fries with ranch dressing, I can crush any day of the week.

Smiling too much
(Why I'll Always Mask When I'm Alone in Public)
Existing while female means having a random dude-bro tell you that, “You’re smiling too much” because somehow men got the message that telling a woman in public they should smile more is not okay while also not understanding that if she’s not smiling, then maybe she doesn’t want to be spoken to. Maybe, like me, she was pondering whether to buy naan or make a homemade batch later… looking for the King’s Hawaiian rolls and remembering that the garam masala was in the aisle I walked in on, on my way to get my vaccine.
This is how my day got derailed.
My first mistake… and clearly, it’s absolutely MY mistake for not only being a woman in public alone but for having my long red hair pulled up in a ponytail and deciding to put on enough makeup to cover my hyperpigmentation and define my eyes just a little…
My first mistake after that was deciding to not wear a mask into the grocery store/pharmacy where I was getting my COVID vaccine booster.
This wasn’t an easy decision. We have managed to avoid COVID *knocks on wood* because we mask in most public places, use a nasal spray, and are fully boosted. We both work from home and usually get groceries curbside, but today I needed to get my vaccine, pick up prescriptions for myself, my husband, and our dog, and maybe grab a couple small things while I was in the grocery store.
COVID numbers are generally down, and it was mid-morning on a Thursday… hardly peak shopping hours, and the parking lot reflected this.
The mask-or-don’t-mask calculations also include the social capital. That’s another way of saying the ability to walk around a public space without being glared at and instead smiling at strangers and making small talk in the checkout line.
People don’t mask around here anymore, not even in medical facilities. At a doctor’s appointment last month, I told the nurse, “I’m not sick, just trying to keep it that way,” after which she relaxed and warmed up… a stark contrast to the icy glares I got from other patients and the front desk clerk in the waiting room.
I’m generally a really social person.
I’ll strike up conversations with anyone, anywhere. And when my anxiety over being in a public place is low, I’ll walk slowly, make eye contact, and smile at people as they pass.
I’ve also come to understand that I hold a certain amount of pretty privilege and am not ashamed to admit that I’ve used it to my advantage in certain situations. Being dressed down, naked-faced, in a baseball cap doesn’t change that. If anything, it’s shown that people view me as even more approachable when I’m out in the world that way.
This is just who I am in public. I’m a people person who often comes home feeling energized by the little low-attachment interactions of saying thank you and good morning to strangers as I run errands. But I was reminded of the other side of that today in the Safeway bakery section.
I wasn’t smiling at all because I was lost in thought.
I was debating making fresh naan and the string of thoughts that came with it from the timing of when I’d need to make the dough to whether or not to use all of the garlic I roasted yesterday to make hummus… and if I make hummus, should I also grab celery to eat with it? And where are the King’s Hawaiian rolls? They’ll go really well with all the soup I made yesterday… but maybe I should just bust out a batch of the copycat Roadhouse Rolls that my husband loves so much…?
And then I heard it.
“You’re smiling way too much!” from a dude-bro standing on the other side of a refrigerated case full of crescent rolls and OJ. That was all it took to go from planning my day to a full-blown panic attack. I looked up, gave a little chuckle then turned in my tracks toward the front of the store.
Never mind that the pharmacy line had dwindled since I arrived for my vaccine, and I needed to pick up three prescriptions. Never mind the garam masala or the half-priced Easter candy display I’d passed on the way in. TIME. TO. GO. NOW.
It wasn’t the comment itself that did it. I mean, it was just another way for a man to tell me I needed to smile more… something I’ve heard on the street and in public spaces more times than I can count.
It was all the other times I’ve been existing while female, only to be treated as though I was on display for a man’s viewing pleasure.
It was the time some rando honked at me at a stop light and took my picture when I turned to look at him. When I told the story on Facebook later that day, several male friends responded with some variation of “Well, you’re so pretty! I understand why he’d want a picture of you.”
It was the day I was standing in line at a convenience store and suddenly felt the knuckles of an old man with a cane passing across my ass as he walked too closely behind me. When I turned around and made a scene, everyone in the store (including my then-husband and so-called best friend) treated me like I was overreacting. I must have imagined it, or it was totally an accident. Why would an old man grope me like that?
It was walking into work in basic office attire- slacks, chunky heels, and a plain shirt, through a parking lot full of blue-collar workers who stared at my car and then wolf-whistled as I stepped out. When I got to my desk, shaking with adrenaline from the rage and fear the rest of the office treated me as though I was being overly sensitive, dramatic and why would they whistle at the office fat girl?
It was the last day of training at a different job when one of the instructors hissed at me under his breath, “You sure do know how to walk into a room,” as passed by his chair. Suddenly, I remembered the tests I’d taken with perfect scores and answers that were clearly wrong. I understood that my nomination of ‘most professional’ was more about how I filled out my slacks than how I spoke to callers and classmates. For the rest of the time I worked there, I had to listen to everyone else talk about what a great man he was and how much they missed him.
It was being 13 years old, walking with two other girls to the convenience store for Doritos and root beer when a car full of men passed by repeatedly, catcalling us from the windows. They then pulled into the vacant lot we were passing through, blocking our path. When they went to get out of the car, I told everyone to run, and we made it safely into the store. Panting, with tears streaming down our faces... we forgot the Doritos, and the cashier let me use the store’s phone to call my “dad” to ask for a ride home. We were afraid they would be waiting for us when we walked out. My dad refused to come get us and told me to just settle down.
It was every single time I’d been harassed by a man in public only to have the men in my life invalidate me when I spoke up.
But I’m me, and I can’t shut up, so I’m doing it again. I’m writing this hoping that someone else will finally realize that these things (and worse) happen to EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW.
Not just women who dress in revealing clothing. Not just women of a specific body type. Not just women who you personally consider attractive.
We do not color our hair or put on makeup to be looked at. We don’t stand in our closets thinking, “Hmmm… which top might cause a small car accident in the Lowes parking lot?” or “Does this skirt make me look like I want a man’s opinion?”
We have bodies that we choose to adorn in our own way, not to make you look but because we have to leave the house to do the same things you do- get a vaccine, pick up something at the bakery, and maybe, next time… maybe remember to get all of the prescriptions.

Title: Nurturing Little Appetites: A Guide to Healthy Food for Kids with a Handy Food Chart
Introduction:
In the fast-paced world we live in, ensuring our children receive the right nutrition is crucial for their overall well-being and development. As parents, we often face the challenge of providing healthy food for kids that is not only nutritious but also appealing to their taste buds. This blog aims to shed light on the importance of incorporating a variety of wholesome foods into your child's diet and offers a practical healthy food chart for your convenience.
Why Healthy Food for Kids Matters:
Children are at a stage of rapid growth and development, making proper nutrition essential for their physical and cognitive well-being. Healthy food for kids not only fuels their energy but also supports their immune system, bone development, and brain function. Moreover, instilling good eating habits from an early age sets the foundation for a lifetime of wellness.
Creating a Healthy Food Chart:
A healthy food chart serves as a practical tool to ensure that your child receives a well-balanced diet. Let's break down the key components:
Fruits and Vegetables:
Aim for a colorful array to provide a variety of vitamins and minerals.
Incorporate fruits like berries, oranges, and bananas.
Include vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, and spinach.
Protein Sources:
Opt for lean protein sources like chicken, fish, eggs, and legumes.
Peanut butter and almond butter are excellent alternatives for plant-based protein.
Whole Grains:
Choose whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and whole wheat bread for sustained energy.
Limit refined grains and sugary cereals.
Dairy or Dairy Alternatives:
Ensure an adequate intake of calcium with options like milk, yogurt, and cheese.
Explore dairy alternatives like almond milk or soy milk for those with lactose intolerance.
Healthy Fats:
Incorporate sources of healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, and olive oil.
Limit saturated and trans fats found in processed snacks.
Making Healthy Eating Fun:
Make mealtime an enjoyable experience for your child by involving them in the process. Let them choose fruits and vegetables at the grocery store, and consider creative presentations to make the food visually appealing. For example, you can create colorful fruit skewers or make funny faces with veggies on their plates.
Snack Smartly:
Offering nutritious snacks is just as crucial as planning main meals. Opt for snacks like yogurt with fruit, whole-grain crackers with cheese, or sliced vegetables with hummus. Limit sugary snacks and opt for alternatives like fruit popsicles or homemade granola bars.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, providing healthy food for kids is an investment in their long-term health and well-being. By creating a balanced and diverse diet, you are giving your child the necessary nutrients to thrive. Utilize the suggested healthy food chart as a guide, but remember to tailor it to your child's preferences and dietary needs. Through positive reinforcement and a bit of creativity, you can cultivate a love for healthy eating that will benefit them for a lifetime.

Buffalo chicken dip recipe

#Buffalo chicken dip recipe free
Spoon the blue cheese mixture over the bean layer. Mix ½ cup Greek yogurt, juice of ½ lemon, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ¼ cup blue cheese crumbles together. Spread the hummus layer on the bottom of your slow cooker or casserole dish. You can also mash everything together with a potato masher or a fork. You can keep it chunky and textural or create a smooth and creamy hummus. Process until it reaches your desired consistency. But first, spray it with cooking spray.Īdd the drained beans, tahini, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, juice of ½ lemon, and salt and pepper to a small blender or food processor. If you only have a large crock pot, you can set a small casserole dish inside your crock pot. Spray the inside of a small crock pot, under 3 quarts, with cooking spray. You can make this easy buffalo chicken dip recipe in the oven or slow cooker! Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip Let it sit for about 20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165. Add the chicken, put the lid on, and remove the pan from the heat. How to Poach Chickenīring water in a saucepan to a boil. Adding finishing touches to your healthy buffalo chicken dip adds color, and even more flavor. Green onions, blue cheese, and buffalo sauce, for serving. Pepper jack or cheddar cheese would both be delicious.

Feel free to substitute with a different cheese, just pick one that melts really well. Co-jack is a great melty cheese and the perfect topping for this healthy buffalo chicken dip. Frank's RedHot is another great one.Ĭo-Jack cheese. It has a nice pepper flavor and it's not overpoweringly spicy. I use Cholula hot sauce, the one with the wooden cap. You can use leftover rotisserie chicken or poach your own chicken breasts (see below for instructions).īuffalo sauce. If you like ranch dressing in your chicken dip, go ahead and mix some of the dried ranch dressing mix into the yogurt. If you're not a fan of blue cheese, you can substitute feta cheese, or any crumbly cheese you like. I recommend whole milk Greek yogurt, because low fat and nonfat Greek yogurt can curdle when cooked.īlue cheese. Greek yogurt adds creaminess and tanginess to the homemade blue cheese dressing. If you don't have it or can't find it, check out these substitutes for tahini. Tahini is sesame paste and adds a warm nutty flavor to the bean dip layer. You can also use Cannellini beans, butter beans, chickpeas, or almost any kind of bean. It's made from Great Northern beans, which whiz up to a smooth and creamy consistency. Since this recipe is made without cream cheese, the creamy component comes from white bean hummus. You can make this healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe in the slow cooker! Ingredients This is a really easy recipe with simple ingredients you can find even in small grocery stores.Įven though it's lightened up, it still tastes plenty indulgent. The creamy texture of the hummus is so smooth and decadent, no one will miss the cream cheese. It's one of my favorite appetizers to make for a special occasion, next to Crockpot Cocktail Chickpea Meatballs and Apples on Horseback. This delicious recipe is made with layers of a smooth white bean hummus, creamy Greek yogurt blue cheese dressing, spicy chicken breast meat, and gooey co-Jack cheese. This healthier buffalo chicken dip is still spicy and creamy but there's no cream cheese, no store-bought dressing, and plenty of cheese to make it gooey and decadent. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but sometimes it's nice to serve healthy appetizers during football season, too. It's a staple on Super Bowl Sunday and holiday parties - and usually the first to go.īut traditional buffalo dip recipes are loaded with fat and lots and lots of cheese. There's nothing not to love about spicy, creamy, gooey buffalo chicken dip. This delicious appetizer is easy to make in the oven or crock pot for holidays, game day, or your next party. Except there’s no cream cheese and it’s not doused in bottled dressing. Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip is cheesy and creamy and spicy - and tastes super indulgent.

“Everyday the sandwich guy shows up to the office at about 12:00. He offers a wide selection of sandwiches from the very traditional (tuna, egg salad etc) to the more esoteric.
An esoteric sandwich? What can an esoteric sandwich taste like? It is through him that I discovered the "sabich". A sabich is a sandwich traditionally eaten by Iraqi Jews on Saturday morning (the Jewish Sabbath).
It might be the most delicious sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. It's a delicious combo of hummous, techina, hard-boiled egg, pickles, parsley and fried eggplant shoved into a pita. Elsewhere in the world it's known as Babi Jan. Apparently about forty-somewhat years ago an Iraqi Jew ran a small kiosk in the Israeli city of Ramat Gan and served up these delicious sandwiches. The name of the guy was Sabich (It's like being a Smith in Iraq) and he was the only person in the country making the Babi Jan so everyone started referring to the sandwich as a Sabich.
I love the food here. Nothing can be more satisfying than a fresh falafel stuffed with all the goods. I love the ethnic food. The soul food of the Jewish people. There are hundreds of these places all over the country. Most of them were started by women 40 years ago whose sons now run them. The mothers (now grandmothers) still meddle and can be seen in the kitchen nearly everyday. My favorite place of all time is called Mordoch and is located near the Mahane Yehuda open-air market in Jerusalem. The Mordoch family are Kurdish and serve the best kubbeh soup in the entire country. Kubbeh soup is a meal unto itself. There are two kinds - red and green - Red kubbeh soup has a tomato and beet base. Green (commonly known as Chamutzta) is a really sour soup made with swiss chard and a ton of lemon juice. The star of both soups however is the Kubbeh itself. Kubbeh are bulgar dumplings filled with meat and spices. I have consistently had at least one bowl of kubbeh soup a week in the past five years.
Mahane Yehuda might be one of my favorite places in the entire country. It has such an old school feel to it. It features tons of fruit and vegetable stalls, fresh fish, and aromatic coffee, thousands of spices, butchers and baked goods. The merchants are constantly yelling. On Fridays, the prices get cheaper and cheaper as the Sabbath draws closer with merchants trying to sell as much as possible before the Jewish Sabbath begins. I shop at the same merchants every week. When I was a soldier and was doing my shopping there, the amount of free stuff I received was unbelievable. I once went to this prepared food place and ordered a small chicken and a couple of side dishes. I was in uniform and I guess it struck the owner as odd that I was buying food for one person. Friday night dinner is to Jews as Sunday dinner is to Italians. Tons of family and even more food. The owner asked me why I was buying such a small amount of food. I told him that I was a chayal boded, translated as a lonely soldier - a soldier who doesn't have any family in the country. He then invited me to his house to eat with his family. In America, this would be viewed as odd, even a little dangerous. Not so here. It's quite common to have strangers over for Friday night dinner. The only reason I didn't go was that I had just finished my most difficult week of basic training - called war week - and just wanted to eat something, shower and sleep for 24 hours.
I have never experienced anything like Mahane Yehuda in America and its really a shame. The closest I thing I have ever seen was The West Side Market in Cleveland which had a lot of character and was somewhat old school in a middle America sort of way. But it ain't my market and they don't serve kubbeh soup there.” • 2005

May I offer a prompt of how the turtles would be with a mom friendTM? you know the type I mean? like.... I think they might benefit from that kind of friend in the group lol (also I love your stories, your such a cool writer keep up the awesome work!)
Rottmnt headcanon: mom friend TM
And thanks so much!
Mom friends are severely underrated XD
——
-Okay these boys need a mom friend badly
-but that’s where you come in!
-as the mom friend you keep them safe in many ways
Donnie💜
-starting with this guy, he never really wanted a mom friend
-when April first brought you over he was cold
-didn’t even bother talking to you
-you were determined to befriend him, even though he left whenever you tried to talk to him
-you became comfortable with the turtles quickly and the others accepted your mom friend nature
-not Donnie though
-he didn’t hate you, sure, but you were too much
-you were too overbearing and too nervous for his safety!
-you’d make him wear a helmet when he used his jet pack
-you made him put on SUNSCREEN whenever he went outside
-you told him to be careful when rewiring a project even!
-it’s like you wanted to ruin his bad boy image
-he hated it and wanted you to stop being so smothering
-…
-…until he realized that attention and moral support comes with the smothering
-the moment he realizes that he’s all for it
-he’s no longer hiding his inventions from you so you won’t bug him, but he’s seeking you out for your advice and praise
“Hey so I made this and… I don’t know…”
“Wow you built that? It’s awesome!”
“Really? I mean, I know, I just wanted to show you that it was.”
-praise ain’t something this boy has
-have you SEEN how his brothers react to his ideas?
-he needs this
-with praise comes affection
-I’m talking homemade snacks and questions that his brothers never ask
-you’re there if he needs a cup of coffee or if he hasn’t eaten in a while or taken a nap
-“don, it’s been two days since you slept go to bed.”
-“*hissssss*”
-“I’ll make a cup of coffee for you after...?”
-“*hisses but less intense*”
-you may be good at making snacks and everything
-very good in facts
-but the questions are probably his favorite part
“Woah what’s that supposed to do?”
“Well it’s a device that’s meant to fix all the broken McDonald’s ice cream machines.”
“That’s amazing! What did you use to build it? How does it work?”
-you’re actually trying to learn about his work!
-you’re trying to learn about him!
-he loves it
-and he loves that you’re careful to
-it’s a nice change from his brothers
-you’re someone he can depend on
-doesn’t matter if it’s missions or just being a good friend
-and I mean it when I say depend
-you’re there when he needs help rewiring something or just to simply talk about his dumb dumb brothers
-honestly April isn’t even mad that Donnie stole one of her best friends
-she knows he needs this
-Donnie fully learned to trust you after the purple dragons mishap
-you told him they were untrustworthy but his heart was dead set on that satin jacket
-when he came back to the lair, late at night, with no satin jacket and a handful of his missing tech, he found you raising an eyebrow at him from where you had sat to wait for him
-he knew from then on to trust you and your opinions, even though his often got in the way
-you can often be found sitting on Donnies bed while he works, offering your company and comments
-Normally no one else is allowed in while he works but that’s just because they don’t have anything positive to provide
 Raph❤️
-Raph IS the mom friend
-your mom friend energy and his mom friend energy just work together so well together
-I’m talking planning missions together, figuring new ways to trick his brothers into being responsible, cleaning the dishes, and even making snacks together
-“so the mission is tomorrow right?”
-“yep! Should we bring apples with peanut butter or pretzels with hummus?”
-“well Donnie doesn’t like peanut butter, but Mikey does, so both?”
-“awesome! And you’ve got the water covered?”
-“dude I even have caprisuns packed so we’re ready!”
-the others find it to be too much with the two of you but Raph really appreciates the help
-especially during the pizza puff episode
-oh that part nearly set you on fire with worry
-Raph had never seen you that worked up
-you had a fan for Leo, a bowl for Mikey, and a bag of fruit snacks for Donnie
-Raph has to activate his supreme mom friend energy to get you to stop hovering over them
-that meant literally dragging you away from them so they could figure things out on their own
-he’s seen you be a mom friend to them all the time
-but never once for him
-you two were like... co mom friends working together to stop the younger irresponsible three
-until Raph got separated in the sewer
-oh man you were torn with worry
-you nearly destoryed the place looking for him
-and finding him all savage like that... ack that was enough to practically shatter your heart in two
-once he stopped trying to barbecue villains and destroy his brothers you took him to the lair and helped him calm down
-you even turned on a movie for the two of you so he could relax
-it was nice to have your best friend and partner in stopping crime back
-Raph of course was embarrassed because it’s HIS job to help everyone, not the other way around
-after much assurance you had him convinced that you didn’t mind
-he was grateful to have you and your help
-he just wished you didn’t worry quite so much
Leo 💙:
-this boy is soaking it all up from the start
-someone to compliment him?
-someone to help him out?
-someone to admire his achievements?
-oh he’s all for it
-he’s showing off skateboard stunts, he’s doing flips, and he’s randomly pulling you to him and creating a portal
-usually you end up somewhere sketchy but sometimes it works out
-you always have to be ready though
-one minute you’re walking to the projector room and the next you’re in New Jersey with a sheepish looking red slider
-his only problem is now he has to be more careful with skateboard tricks
-he’s fine with a helmet but when it comes to you hovering next to him while he’s going down the skate ramp...
-eh he’s not so fond of that
-praise?
-sure
-home made gifts and cards?
-always appreciated
-but you constantly trying to protect him from things he knew how to do?
-no
-just no
-now he only feels like he can skate if you’re not there or if he goes to a skate park without telling you
-you figure out quickly and still worry that he’ll mess up a flip
-doesn’t matter if you’re watching or not
-you’re the mom friend
-your job is to worry
-you promised that you’d stop worrying about him if he can back
-you didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable in his own home!
-he agreed and you did your best to keep your promise
-...
-until he actually messed up a flip
-you don’t know WHAT he landed on but it must have been sharp because there was a LOT of blood
-maybe you thought there was a lot because you were so worried but still
-you hadn’t even been in the room but you heard his shout (and crash) and you came running
-oh he was lucky you carried gauze and everything in your bag because other wise they’d have to go buy some
-you chewed him out while patching him up, much to his displeasure
-you’re both sweet and sour about it
-“I’m fine! Look, nothing’s broken!”
-“I TOLD you that you could get hurt! I TOLD you it wasn’t safe! Why did you not listen- I’m sorry does that hurt? I’m sorry!”
-“yeah it does hurt-.”
-“than you should have listened to me!!”
-for a while he’s bitter that you were just waiting for him to mess up
-clearly you thought he was just a big clutz to you
-but after a while of him avoiding you and pouting you brought it up again
-“I’m not just waiting for you to fail you know. I just want you to be okay.”
-“that’s not what it feels like! You clearly don’t trust me!”
-“life happens, Leo! Doesn’t matter how skilled you are! You’re an amazing skater but sometimes mistakes are made!”
-ha that changed his tune quickly
-“you think I’m an amazing and skilled skater?
-you just rolled your eyes and left, not saying anything about his comment
-didn’t matter
-this boy is all smiles for the rest of the day
Mikey🧡:
-he was on board from the very start
-he’s got cuddles, piggy back rides, and his own art fan/critic
-lots of baking and cooking together
-maybe even drawing if he’s lucky
-only problem?
-you don’t trust him to go out on his own
-even if it’s just to grab a video game from the store or pick up pizza
-“I’m just going down the block!”
-“what if someone sees you?”
-“I’ll be careful!”
-“just let me go with you.”
-“no! I can do this on my own!”
-you’re always offering to give him a ride or tag along just because you don’t want anything to happen to him
-that means, of course, sneaking out
-not for a long time, just enough to get some air
-but that also means you’re staying up late waiting for him to come back
-he’s your buddy!
-you can’t let anything happen to him!
-he didn’t know about it until he found you cashed out on the couch with the lamp still on
-normally you gave him an excuse about why you were still up, such as a late night snack or a movie
-but your phone and the tv were both off
-he decided to think nothing of it until he noticed that you were grumpier in the mornings
-he didn’t want his actions to affect you so he started coming back earlier
-even texting you and telling you he was fine
-you two talked and set up a deal
-he could go out by himself and you wouldn’t stay up late waiting for him as long as you had his location on your phone
-it was easier for both you from then on

I've had far too many pita pockets from the store that just don't... well, pocket. So I decided to take a stab at making my own pitas/flatbread! 🥙 .. I used the whole wheat flatbread recipe from @abeautifulmess (and added in some @kingarthurbaking vital wheat gluten) to make these GORGEOUS flatbreads! The vital wheat gluten created some great structure and I had nice large pockets with very well defined gluten strands! They're just lovely paired with some homemade spicy hummus, heavy on the tahini 😋

FEMSLASH FEBRUARY 2021 #21: In which Donna gives Cameron a gift
[CN: food and eating mentions; alcohol mentions]
.
.
.
It was early in the evening on a breezy summer Friday toward the end of June, and as Cameron pulled up to Donna’s house she wondered, not for the first time, if she was ready to be done with commuting and splitting her time evenly between the trailer and Donna’s house. She turned off the ignition, grabbed the bunch of wild flowers she’d picked from her own garden patch, got out of the car. Or at least, maybe it’s time for a break? she thought to herself as she walked up to Donna’s front door. I’ve been going back and forth for a year…maybe I could just stay here for the summer…or even just for this month? Or the next few weeks?
Donna had left the door open for her, and Cameron let herself in, expecting to find Donna listening to music and maybe even dancing in the den or maybe the bedroom, happy and energized from her weekly manicure and lunch outing, buzzing with news from Tanya or Diane, as well as ideas for what they should do that evening and later that weekend. Instead, Donna was in the kitchen, in a black knee-length full slip and apron, hair half up in rollers, behind the stove, which was covered in simmering pots and pans. Cameron’s eye immediately went to the table, which was set with Donna’s good plates and candlesticks, and an empty vase waiting for Cameron’s wildflowers.
“Honey!” Donna called out. “You’re home! Just give me a second and I’ll fetch your slippers and bring you a gin and tonic!”
The very idea of gin made Cameron go ugh. She went to the dining room, and turned around. “What is all this? Did we get married? Is this our anniversary that I forgot? Did I miss something?”
Donna chuckled at her, stirring one of the pots in front of her. “Well, it is almost the 4th of July, which is sort of an anniversary for us.”
Cameron nodded. “I’ll allow it.”
“I figured,” Donna said, checking one of the other pots, “that we could get a jump on celebrating, since we’ll be preoccupied with the 4th, on the 4th, and all.”
Cameron sighed and looked over at Donna, hit with a wave of affection for her. “Okay, Boss.” She went up to the kitchen island, and said, “You look very alluring in your slip.”
“Thank you!” Donna said brightly. “Are you wondering if I’m planning on dressing up, and if that means that you’ll have to dress for dinner as well?”
“You can read my mind. Just like a perfect wife should,” Cameron joked.
Donna shrugged. “I was gonna put a blouse and shorts back on after I was done cooking. The slip was just so that you’d have something fun to look at.”
“Mission accomplished,” Cameron grinned. “I’m a little grimy from the drive, though, so. Meet you back here after I get the flowers in some water and shower?”
Donna grinned back at her. “Sounds like a plan.”
***
An hour later, the flowers were in the vase, the candles were lit, and dinner was served. Cameron and Donna enjoyed their eggplant parmesan, spinach, and angel hair pasta with two glasses of one of Donna’s favorite red wines, and a lot of happy chatter about how their weeks had been, what the girls were up to, and their weekend plans.
When they were done, Donna got up and took their plates. As she walked them back to the kitchen, she said, “I made some red velvet cake for dessert! I know that you prefer the store bought, but, what can I say, I woke up in a mood today.”
Cameron, who was in the bad habit of overeating but only when Donna or Bos cooked for her, groaned, “That sounds great and all but I might literally barf if I try to eat more right now?”
Donna put away their leftovers, and then she returned to the table with two black velvet jewelry boxes, and set them down in front of Cameron. “Then maybe you can open these first?”
Wide-eyed, Cameron stared at the boxes with undisguised terror.
“Don’t get all excited,” Donna huffed. “Neither of these boxes contains an engagement ring, the only engagement ring in this house is the one that Gordon gave me and that I refuse to ever part with.“
Cameron looked at her uncertainly. “And one of them,” Donna continued, “isn’t even jewelry.” She picked up the smaller box and held it out toward Cameron.
Cameron accepted it slowly, like it might pop open like a trick snake nut can. She opened it, and saw that it had a set of keys inside.
“I know, I know,” Donna said, sinking back into her chair. “You don’t have a key to your trailer for me. What if that’s okay though? What if the lesson the last 15 years have been trying to teach us is that reciprocity and being a good partner doesn’t have to mean everything is even steven all the time? I don’t need the key to your trailer. I know that I’m welcome there. And I’m also okay with usually calling before I come over.”
Cameron frowned at her. “Are you sure?”
“I’m positive,” Donna smiled at her. She pushed the other box toward Cameron.
Warily, Cameron picked it up, and opened the top. Inside, there were anodized silver pendants, on what looked like two anodized silver chains. One pendant was a small silver compass, and the other was a small anchor. Smiling sadly, Cameron said, “So I’ll always be able to find my way back to you?”
Gently, Donna said, “Or to wherever. You’ll never be completely lost, though. You’ll always have some help figuring out what direction to go in.”
“I don’t have anything to give you,” Cameron sighed.
With the same sad sort of smile, Donna said, “You might not have any jewelry for me, but that’s okay, because I already have all the jewelry I need. And also, my house is full of plants and fresh flowers and I have a garden full of fresh herbs and lavender out back, and I have homemade breads and hummus and preserves in the kitchen because of you. I get how that might not sound like a fair trade to some people,” she said, leaning forward and resting her elbow on the table. “ But I think it is. I think it’s more than fair.” She sighed, and then she said, “My house doesn’t feel empty the way it used to. That sounds terrible, I know. The girls used to live here. It didn’t feel empty because of them or anything that they did wrong, it felt that way because of me. But I don’t feel like that anymore. Now I wake up every day and I think, ‘Maybe things will actually be okay? Yeah, I think so.’”
Eyes starting to glisten, Cameron closed the jewelry box, and set it back down on the table. She looked back at Donna, and said, “Yeah. I know what you mean.” When Donna smiled at her, Cameron said, “I love you.”
“I know,” Donna said, wiping a tear of her own off her face. “I love you too.”
Unable to resist, Cameron asked, “Last and best?”
Donna’s smile grew broader, and brighter. “You know it.”

Healthy snacking options
Have you ever ensured that you have not eaten any junk options during the most vulnerable part of the day, the snack time between 4-7 pm? Have you tried any wholesome snack options which will not only keep your dinner lighter but also help you sleep better?
Evening snack time between lunch and dinner is something that keeps us on our toes. The evening snack can tend to either be a time we overeat or not eat at all, leading to stomach issues.
Apart from the regular poha, veg upma and sandwiches, what are the foods that you can incorporate which not only fills up the gap of lack of nutrients between lunch and dinner but also makes you look forward to an interesting snacking time? Something which you do eat but is also appealing for your guests as well in terms of taste, aroma, attractiveness, elegance and is most importantly nutrient dense. Something which you would not regret after eating and which does not remind you every day that you now need to go on a strict diet. A good snacking option that not only helps you to keep up with your metabolism but also helps you eat your dinner properly. So, let us see what all wholesome and healthy snack options are in store for you!
Some options to try for:
•        Makhana roasted in ghee or kheer
•           Homemade peanut or white sesame chikki (made with jaggery) (good source of calcium, iron)
•        Protein shake
•        Assorted fruit salad
•        Paneer
If you are at home during weekend, you may try some paneer recipes. Paneer is one of the heathiest ingredients you can think for making nutritious snacks. It is rich in protein which is necessary to maintain the health of each cell of the body. It thus works towards building immune cells too and aids in building a healthy immune system. So, you may try some Grilled Paneer tikka or moong dal and paneer tikki or a healthy wrap or a kathi roll. You may explore paneer snacks options the way you like.
•        Sprouts tikki or chilla or salad or a dhokla is also a great way to have in snacks.
 •        Steamed options: A superior method compared to deep frying to keep the nutrients intact unless over cooked.
 •        Muthia: jowar, spinach, methi - iron and folic acid rich dumplings.
•        Kothimbir vadi, a famous Maharashtrian snack with the dominant flavour of coriander has a lovely taste and crunch.
•        You can also have a healthy Vada Pav by replacing the maida pav with a whole wheat one. This way you can relish Vada Pav with less guilt. Modify the cooking method slightly by avoiding it to be deep fried.
•        Buckwheat dhokla: buckwheat helps maintain blood flow and prevents fatty clot formation in the arteries due to the precence of Rutin in it.

You can make some sesame soya tikki, quick soya uttapam, soya burger, soya kababs with mint chutney, soya chilly, soya cutlet and soya upma as well.
•        Jar snacks
Kids just love it and you will as well. What is the best part is it does not need frying and is healthy? Best option for overnight oats topped with assorted berries or fruits or ragi oats cracker or crunchy cumin seeds cracker or mixed nut laddoo or dry fruit laddoo or baked methi maitri.
