Those bastards at HBO canceled The Nevers after airing half of its first season damn near two years ago. This is after they killed the second season of Lovecraft Country following its phenomenal first season. They also decided to end Doom Patrol in favor of their thrice reworked "vision" of the DCEU. And now that I think I want to watch The Last of Us, I have nothing but bitterness over other great shows that they abandoned. I'm gonna wait this one out.
Honestly with all these abruptly cancelled shows and movie sequels, we should just only make limited series’.
Like you can’t be sad about not finishing your story if you plan on completing your story on your first go. Gimme more Watchmen! More Lovecraft Country! Normal People! Queen’s Gambit! Basically, take the Asian drama or anime approach where you only expect to make one series and you tell the whole story in one go.
Alternatively (or similarly) make an anthology series. You can take the Black Mirror or Twilight Zone route and have every episode a unique and complete story or the AHS route and tell a whole story within the season and tell a different one the next.
I’m tired of being disappointed. I’m tired of companies cancelling shows for no good god damn reason. I’m tired of ending a season on a cliff hanger and never getting to resolve it. I’m tired of wasting my time on content that will just keep me yearning or confused.
