Hey Sarah, how’s it going? I am going to Vancouver in a few weeks for a weekend trip and was wondering if you had any recommendations. I love a good croissant and an art museum.
Hi! So happy that you're visiting this amazing city. I have a bunch of recs in this tag here.
If you're here for a weekend my highlight itinerary would include: Granville Island/Kits, Lower Lonsdale in North Van + Capilano Suspension Bridge, renting bikes and zooming around the Seawall, Gastown, shopping on Main Street, meandering along Commercial Drive. And if you have time for day trips out of the city: Whistler/Squamish or taking a ferry to the adorably quaint Bowen Island. A day in Victoria is manageable but is definitely a full day (and there's an EXCELLENT museum there + it is the capital of B.C. so lots of stunning legislature/government buildings etc, the oldest Chinatown in Canada, etc).
As far as croissants go, my favourites are below. I'll list their neighbourhoods in brackets so you have a general sense of where they're located and proximity to where you're staying.
Beaucoup (Kitsilano)
Nemesis (Gastown, GNW, North Van)
Small Victory (SoGra, Yaletown)
I hope you have a lovely stay in Van!

Lonsdale Avenue
Lonsdale Avenue is the central road of North Vancouver and in my opinion the most beautiful street of all. It consists of upper Lonsdale, which is behind the highway and leading to the mountains, Central Lonsdale, which is in the center of North Vancouver and it contains many shops, e.g. the City Market, London Drugs, Tim Hortons and many more and when it comes to lower Lonsdale, there are many restaurants with a variety of different cultures and beautiful tree lights you can enjoy at night. For me, Lonsdale Avenue is like the main attraction in North Vancouver, because there are so many possibilities to try out. You can always find a place to go and it will definitely be fun. Lonsdale Avenue is my main Path in North Vancouver on which I can hold on, no matter where I want to go. When I see Lonsdale Avenue, I know I'm almost home :)

turning 21...
This is a letter to myself, that I am starting on May 19th, 2022, my last day of being 20. I am starting this at 2:30pm whilst currently working in the IAI lab. Last year before my 20th birthday, I wrote a letter to myself reflecting on my teen years and how I felt about entering my 20s. This letter is to reflect on my time as a 20 year old, and moving forward as I turn 21.
The summer after I turned 20 was a really happy summer. That was when the vaccines started coming out, and we could get closer to a sense of normalcy. The week after my birthday, my friends and I went to get the BTS Mcdonalds meal and we ate it at Brentwood park. That was the first time in a very long time I got to hang out with friends in person, and honestly it was such a happy and core memory for me. It’s crazy to think that that was something we couldn’t do for so long. That summer definitely ranks high in my list of summers. Especially after I finished my summer courses, I was hanging out with my friends very often. We went to the beach, we went to North Van and Lonsdale Quay, we went to restaurants, we went to the casino, and we had lots of sleepovers too. Just being able to spend time with friends, and not have to worry about anything else was definitely my happiest memory of when I was 20.
Afterwards in the Fall, I flew to Toronto. Our school was trying to shift things back in-person, and while some classes were still online, I still had many in-person components. I was definitely excited to get some semblance of a normal university experience after so long of online courses. But I think being online and being at home for so long, had made me too dependent. I had forgotten what it had been like to live away from home. And so, when I came to Toronto, I remember I cried a lot and I called home every day. I was so lonely, in a new city, so far away from home and with no friends by my side. But once I started to develop a schedule, and I got closer to my roommates, and to my peers, I think I started feeling more comfortable in this new city.
Then in the winter, Omicron hit. And we got pushed back online again. I felt like I was in a repeating cycle. I stayed home for a long time, and I felt myself losing that schedule I worked so hard to make in the fall, and I lost all motivation to do anything and I fell behind a lot. It got a little bit better when we were able to come back to campus.
If I’m honest, these past few months definitely felt like a blur. I felt like a lot happened, but nothing happened all at once. I spent a lot of time focusing on school, but I also got lots of new experiences. Since I participated so actively in my STA303 course, Liza offered to have me be a part of a research cohort on ethical statistical practice. We honestly didn’t do much research, but it was super fun to be a part of and meet all the other amazing students. I also ran for Vice President of SSU! Albeit, I was the only one running, it's definitely something I wouldn’t have done in the past, and I’m proud of myself for taking the challenge! (Adding on, I watched I Told Sunset About You during this semester - it was a great and absolutely beautiful show, I’d love to write a small piece on what I like about it sometime!)
I really did think that this year would be the year my GPA would drop. Although compared to past years, my marks are definitely lower, my GPA is still the same. I described it to my friends, that when it comes to my grades, I feel like I have both imposter syndrome and a god complex. Too many times have I just expected getting good grades, but I am also constantly worried that this bubble will one day burst. I don’t feel like I am smart - but I feel like I am not awful at taking tests. I think this is definitely something that I have realized especially as I came to university. I know that I get better grades than some, but some of the people who my grades are better than are doing some really amazing things and I know that they will go on to make huge impacts in their future. It’s after meeting people like them that I’ve realized that grades really don’t mean much, but it is still so hard for me to break from the mindset that grades are important after it has been so imposed on me and after I have received many benefits due to my grades (scholarhips, research positions).
Something that I’ve come to realize too is what I want to do in the future. I know this is something I always thought about, but I really solidified that what I want is an office job. I think for the longest time I’ve felt like I had to go into research because research was all I heard people going to. I think I came into university forcing myself to go in biostatistics. And yes, it is interesting, but if I could choose again, I don’t think I would choose it. I don’t think I’m a person who is suited to go into academia. I’ve had this conversation, and I really don’t think I am a person who strives to be the very best. Obviously I want to achieve success and do well at my job, but my ultimate goal is happiness and comfort :)
What had always drew me to want an office job is the directions you’re given and the disintiction of work and personal life. Whilst I never knew exactly what I wanted to do, when I was young, I wanted to work a 9 to 5, and then have time to do my hobbies afterwards. I wanted a time to turn my brain off from work and enjoy things I wanted to do. But I think now that graduation is getting closer, and I’m becoming older, this is something I’ve become more determined to achieve. I want a job where I can live comfortably and pursue hobbies I enjoy!
(I've recently joined the IAI lab - this is my third week, I don’t want to write about it here, but I’ll likely make a reflection doc on it later.)
It’s 11:31pm. It’s weird to think that in half an hour I will be turning 21. I feel so old :). I’m not quite sure how to explain how I feel about it. My teen self would definitely never imagine being this old. My 20 year old self can barely process being 20, being 21 is even stranger. I will be legally old enough to drink alcohol in the USA! I think this is definitely an age where I feel old and young. Old because I am learning about so many new responsibilities I never thought about when I was younger, and because I am able to look back on my past self and realize how naive I was. Young because I know I still have such a long road ahead of me. When I interact with professors and PIs, how much further and how much they’ve accomplished makes me realized how much more I still have to do. And so, I definitely feel in a standstill - I’m not sure how I am supposed to feel anymore.
I want to end this letter to myself off with some goals I have as I enter my new life. But honestly, I don’t know what to write. Partially, I think it’s because I’ve been so busy and tired working at the lab that I haven’t had the time to think about it. In the past, I’ve always wrote about youth and wanting to grow. Maybe it’s the feeling of getting old? I don’t have the drive to write those as before (but honestly it might be because I’ve been so tired). I feel like I want to write something sentimental (I’m look at the night view I have, so maybe it’s making me in the mood…)
To 21 year old Jessica:
All the past goals you already know. You’ve always been working towards them and you still are. You’re going to be very busy this summer, and in the upcoming school year as you graduate university. I just hope you can be happy. Take the time to do things you enjoy and take care of yourself! To quote Ms. Smith, “stop and smell the roses”. But also don’t lose sight of what you want to do in the future. I hope you can become a better version of yourself.
With lots of love,
20 year old Jessica

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC, Nov. 14, 2023 – In an ambitious move to invigorate local communities and boost tourism, the Government of Canada, through PacifiCan, has earmarked over $2.7 million for the revitalization of seven key projects in North Vancouver. This significant funding initiative aims to refresh community spaces, attract new visitors, and stimulate the local economy, ensuring that these areas remain vibrant and appealing destinations.
Breaking down the funding, over $2.6 million is allocated to six projects under the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, while a substantial $99,999 is dedicated to a project under the Tourism Relief Fund. These investments reflect a strategic approach to enhancing community infrastructure and promoting tourism, two critical drivers of economic growth and social well-being in the region.
Among the noteworthy projects, the District of North Vancouver is set to receive $750,000. This funding will be used to construct a new field house at Delbrook Park, complete with accessible washrooms and storage space for community events. In a similar vein, the Squamish Nation is granted $750,000 to design and build a versatile multi-use recreational facility in Xwmelch’sten (West Vancouver). This facility is envisioned to host a variety of sports and community events, fostering a sense of unity and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The City of North Vancouver is another significant beneficiary, with $500,000 allocated for the development of pedestrian-friendly spaces along the Esplanade corridor. This project includes the installation of accessible footpaths, public seating, bike racks, safety barriers, fencing, and lighting, enhancing the area’s accessibility and appeal. Additionally, the city will receive $217,500 for a permanent skate park at Mahon Park and $97,600 to upgrade pathways in the commercial corridor of Lonsdale Avenue, further boosting accessibility and convenience for residents and visitors alike.
The Greater Vancouver Water District is set to utilize $354,000 in funding to revitalize the outdoor space surrounding the new Watershed Centre in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. This project involves expanding the trail network, enhancing the area’s natural beauty, and promoting outdoor activities.
In the tourism sector, Grouse Mountain Management Inc. will benefit from a $99,999 grant through the Tourism Relief Fund. This funding is earmarked for the construction of a new chair lift at the Grouse Mountain resort, a move that is anticipated to enhance the resort’s appeal and visitor experience significantly.
These initiatives, supported by the Government of Canada, underscore a deep commitment to developing British Columbia’s infrastructure and tourism sector. By investing in shared public spaces and tourism experiences, these projects aim to bring communities together and ensure the thriving future of North Vancouver and its surrounding areas.

COPPER SCRAP RECYCLING LONSDALE
COPPER SCRAP RECYCLING LONSDALE
RENEWAL OF COPPER
The top Copper Scrap Recycling Lonsdale is Adelaide Auto Recycling, and we buy many kinds of scrap copper metal. If you're wondering whether the scrap copper metal you have is worth anything, read more about the definitions below or get in contact with us for additional information:
Tumblr media
Bright copper
The most precious, highest-paying grade of copper available is found in stripped copper cables. Glossy copper cable has to be uncoated, unalloyed, and polished. Shiny Copper has the highest grade quality rating in the entire globe for a variety of factors.
Copper Scrap Recycling Lonsdale : We buy scrap metals made of copper here at Adelaide Auto Recycling. Call us at 08 8123 4113. Copper Recycling Lonsdale
National Copper.
Domestic copper is brass fittings and copper pipe with soldered joints. The value of domestic copper on the market is diminished by Copper Recycling Lonsdale soldering and brass additions. This is because there are time-consuming steps that must be taken when the pipe is dropped off in the scrap metal yard.
Copper is ironic.
Irony Copper is a metal, just like the other Irony metals. It is a filthy metal with a lower market value than other varieties of copper. Any attachments made of paper, steel, or plastic will be included by Irony Copper. Domestic copper can also be labelled as ironic copper since they are essentially the same type of waste metal.

The Flash Season 9 episode 13 review
Last week, I made a post (https://www.tumblr.com/basilisk06/719046628704731136/its-been-over-a-week-so-i-think-i-can-post) about the final season of the flash. All but one episode, the last one. This will be my review of it. For the record, anything I say will not be used to be hateful towards the show or the crew and actors. I understand certain things that I say here could not have happened due to certain issues but I will say it because this is what I personally feel would have been better.
First off, make the finale longer. Make it like an hour and a half at the very least. The villains interacting in the first scene was amazing (though Godspeed’s actor having a beard makes no sense because when August Heart died by Thawne’s hand, he doesn’t have a beard) The only downsides is that they (minus Eobard and possibly Eddie) didn’t know who Savitar truly was. I read somewhere that Grant Gustin was with Covid when they were filming, but if only they used old footage and voice lines and stunt doubles to make the scene feel good. Also i imagine that the finale would have been better if more villains of the series had appeared. Like smaller speedsters like Trajectory from season 2 and The Rival from Season 3 Flashpoint, to a recently seen villains like Dark Flash/Bloodwork/ Ramsey Rosso and Red Death, Ryan Wilder. The bus metas, to torture Barry from the fact that he couldn’t save them, to the main villains of previous seasons, Devoe the Thinker from season 4, both Cicadas from season 5, Mirror Monarch from season 6 and 7, to Deathstorm from season 8. Hell, even add some of the lower metas and rogue gallery (for some examples of metas and rogues, look up ‘Top 340 on YouTube and pick the video with Superman about live action DC characters) to mess with Barry more. I know they probably didn’t have the budget for all of this, but I feel like it would’ve been better. And and the long awaited and teased Chronarch. Also I wished that they got Matt Letscher to return, and give Thawne some excuse that he could change faces whenever he wanted (to keep that line that he would kill Allegra with the face of her mentor, Nash Wells).
Next, I wish that when the speedsters are running, there lightning is the same color as it was before, but with a red energy encasing it. When the villains reveal themselves, I wish that more heroes returned for the (currently) last fight of the Arrowverse: Melissa Benoist as Supergirl (maybe others from her show too), some of the legends (to help wrap up that show since it ended on a cliffhanger and probably isn’t getting an 8th season), Jordan Fisher as Impulse (scheduling conflicts cause him to be absent from the finale), Keiynan Lonsdale as Kid flash (or better yet, have another actor play a future version in the actual flash suit since Barry is in space dealing with the Chronarch), Violet Beane as Jesse Chamber/ Jesse Quick (say that crisis and the new multiverse Oliver as the Spectre created help her find her way back) Vibe/Cisco Ramon (Carlos said he wanted to return in the finale but couldn’t due to scheduling conflicts), The Elongated Man/ Ralph Dibney ( imagine if we got to see Hartley Sawyer one last time, since his cancellation in season 7, he’s been off the grid) and more.
For the fight, I wish it had been, Impulse(Bart) and XS(Nora) against Savitar, mainly for him to see what he himself took from himself. Zoom against Quick/Jessie Chambers Wells, and Flash/ Dr Jay Garrick, since it would be ironic for him to see a speedster he had a hand in creating be faster than him and be the person he kidnapped and used as leverage to gain Barry’s speed, and Jay to use the ability he learned from his earth-90 counterpart against Zoom to show that strength and speed aren’t the only aspects of a powerful speedster. For Godspeed, I would say Flash/Kid Flash/(Future) Wallace ‘Wally’ West due to them being the faster of the other speedsters. For other villains, the ones I mentioned above, have them fight the heroes I also mentioned above as well, like Cisco, Ralph, and Allegra and Chester against The Reverse Flash, before he runs away to fight Barry.
Eddie (with blue lighting instead of red) and Barry would be fighting, but would be interrupted by Eobard, and Eddie see how he has become just as evil as The Reverse Flash, eventually leading to Eobard betraying Eddie and trying to steal the full power of the negative forces. We’d get to see the three chasing each other in the time stream, and eventually landing in the future, where Barry saves some people, and then we’d see a young Eobard Thawne, hateful at Barry for stealing his fame, or even Barry, allowing the past version of Eobard Thawne to save the crowd, before going back to the chase. Back into the timestream, we’d see the trio arrive in the past, on the night of the Particle Accelerator Explosion, and in order to save himself, we’d see Barry throw lightning, and strike himself, and run back into the fight. Eventually, imagine how yourselves, the villains would all be defeated, and Eddie and Barry would merge the forces like in the actual show (I think that’s how it happened) and the rest of the ending of the actual episode would be the same. Only we’d also see the people Barry struck with lightning in their suits, and then we’d end the show.

Blog 14 — Greaser And Skinhead
Try to think about the meaning of 'uniform'. Whereas I was previously confined to thinking about the established uniform, Mike prompted me to think about the same kind of clothing worn by the same kind of people, including bands, punk rockers - real mavericks.
Greasers are a youth subculture that emerged in the 1950s and early 1960s from predominantly working class and lower-class teenagers and young adults in the United States. The subculture remained prominent into the mid-1960s and was particularly embraced by certain ethnic groups in urban areas, particularly Italian Americans and Latino Americans.
Male greasers typically wore loose work pants such as cotton twill trousers, common among the working class; dark slacks, or dark blue Levi's jeans, widely popular among all American youth in the 1950s. The latter were often cuffed over ankle-high black or brown leather boots, including steel-toed engineer or combat boots, Harness boots, work boots, and (especially in the Southwest) cowboy boots. Other footwear choices included Chuck Taylor All-Stars, pointed Italian dress shoes, brothel creepers, and winkle pickers. Male shirts were typically solid black or white T-shirts, ringer T-shirts, or sometimes sleeveless undershirts or tank tops (which would have been retailed as underwear). Choices of outerwear included denim or leather jackets (including Perfecto motorcycle jackets). Female greaser dress included leather jackets and risque clothing, such as tight and cropped capris and pedal pushers (broadly popular during the time period)
Skinheads wore long-sleeve or short-sleeve button-down shirts or polo shirts by brands such as Ben Sherman, Fred Perry, Brutus, Warrior or Jay tex; Lonsdale or Ever last shirts or sweatshirts; Grandfather shirts; V-neck sweaters; sleeveless sweaters (known in the UK as a tank top); cardigan sweaters or T-shirts (plain or with text or designs related to the skinhead subculture). They might wear fitted blazers, Harrington jackets, bomber jackets, denim jackets (usually blue, sometimes splattered with bleach), donkey jackets, Crombie-style overcoats, sheepskin ¾-length coats, short macs, monkey jackets or parkas. Traditional ("hard mod") skinheads sometimes wore suits, often of two-tone ‘Tonik’ fabric (shiny mohair-like material that changes colour in different light and angles), or in a Prince of Wales or houndstooth check pattern.
