I just decided to put on a random episode of LS and wound up watching 1x07. And like, I know it was focused on the whole Owen and Billy thing, but they couldn't have TK and Carlos interact, like, at all? It would have been nice to see at least something between 1x05 and 1x10 (not counting Carlos at TK's bedside in 1x08 since one of them is unconscious, lol though now that I think about it, they could have interacted in 1x08 before TK got shot, as well).

I can *kind* of see where it would be rushed, but also not really? They've essentially been officially together since 1x10, but really started getting together since the second episode of the entire series. I know time in LS isn't exactly linear or making sense, but they've been together more or less of 3 years and living together for about half of that time so it really just is the next step. And in TV time, it should have happened at the beginning of the season if they weren't broken up. Since they put them back together SO early (not too early for me, but it is in TV land), a proposal is just logically the next step. I could see if being rushed if they drug out them getting back together- but they didn't.

I didn’t mean rushed relationship-wise (for all the reasons you laid out there, I literal time-wise. As in they might only get a rushed, 1-2 minute scene for it due to everything else happening where as if they waited until season 4 it could be more of a focus. And there’s nothing wrong with a simple, quick thing, but I wouldn’t be mad if they had a little more time to flesh out the story and really make it a whole thing.

Believe me, I think it is high time that they mutually put a ring on it.

Thinking about getting into the gif-editing business, and I have an idea for the most difficult calls each member experiences. But if anyone else beats me to it, go for it, I just want to see it laid out! Here are my ideas so far. Feedback is welcome, because I haven’t decided on one for everyone yet:

Chim: Truly can’t think of one…all of his major injuries (rebar accident/stabbing/electrocution) were off-shift; tell me if you think of one!

Ravi: Don’t think he’s had a major injury yet…so for now I’ll say when he almost threw up at the sight of the man with a chainsaw in him (5x5)

Lucy: Catching surgeon outside window (5x14); seriously, she caught a grown ass woman mid free fall and pulled her through a window…wtf

"I want to work things out between us."

T.K. still has Carlos's hand clasped in his, and he feels it twitch as he shifts to look over at him. He keeps his own eyes trained on the sky, refusing to see whatever hope or worry or sympathy is in Carlos's. He doesn't think he'd be able to bear it, not right now.

"But you're right," he continues, breathing out shakily. "We barely even know each other."

"We've got time." Carlos's voice is soft, understanding, but T.K. shakes his head, closing his eyes.

"No," he says. "I can't - I need -" He sighs, frustrated. "There are some things that can't wait."

He half expects Carlos to crack a joke here, or make a comment, or say anything really - but he doesn't. The silence soothes him, allows him to breathe for a moment and collect his thoughts into one. He stares down at their linked hands and, for a brief moment, T.K. wishes that they could just enjoy the night, like any other couple. One step at a time, and all that.

But, T.K. knows that, if they're ever going to take that first step, he needs to make this one first. Step Zero, of sorts.

"I, uh, I got some serious baggage, Carlos," he starts.

"Okay."

T.K. does look at him then, confused at the lack of curiosity in his voice, but Carlos just shrugs.

"I'm a cop, T.K. I've seen some shit too."

T.K. nods; he knows, on that point at least, they understand each other. Carlos gets the stresses of the job in a way that none of his other partners ever did, especially not Alex. Still.

"Right, but that not - I don't mean in the job." He takes a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart. It doesn't work. "You remember I told you about my breakup? And - and my relapse?"

Carlos nods, waiting, ever patient, and T.K. feels that familiar warmth in his stomach that he so often gets around him.

"Well, I, uh, I just..."

Fuck.

He'd thought it would be easier this time, because he's already said the words, because this is Carlos. But that's the problem isn't it - this is Carlos. Perfect Carlos. Too-good-to-be-true Carlos. Carlos, around whom T.K. thinks he can finally feel again.

And it's fucking terrifying.

He shudders out a breath and squeezes his eyes shut, tears beginning to well up in them. Carlos's hand slips from his, and T.K. thinks that he's ruined it all over again, but then the car creaks as Carlos sits up and there's a hand on T.K.'s face, brushing the wetness from his cheeks.

"Hey," Carlos murmurs, far gentler than T.K. deserves. "Whatever is it, I'm here. In whatever way you want me to be, even if it is just as a friend. I promise."

T.K. opens his eyes, and something inside him cracks wide open as he stares up at Carlos. His heart aches, perhaps a warning, perhaps a blessing, but T.K. knows now he can't run from the pain anymore.

"My ex," he says, moving so they're both lying on their sides, facing each other. "I was in love with him. We didn't have the best relationship, in hindsight, but at the time it felt perfect, even though we were moving so fast. I thought, for the longest time - even after I moved here - that he was my soulmate and all that shit. I wanted to marry him."

T.K. shakes his head, pushes aside a bitter laugh. "We hadn't even moved in together at that point, but I was convinced. So I bought a ring, I asked him to dinner, and he told me that he'd been cheating on me with his trainer."

"T.K., I'm sorry," Carlos says.

"I don't really remember what happened after that; it's a bit of a blur. Feels like the next thing I knew was I was sitting on my couch with a bunch of pills, even though I'd promised my dad I'd never touch them again after I overdosed when I was twenty."

T.K. hears Carlos's sharp intake of breath, and he winces. They're in dangerous territory now, the make-or-break shit that could send him running for the hills. But he's started now; he can't stop even if he wanted to.

"I OD'd - again." His voice is barely above a whisper now, but he may as well be shouting it's so quiet here. "My dad, my team, they saved me, and we moved here pretty much right after. I guess I didn't... I never really had a chance to process it all, you know?"

A lump rises in his throat, and he has to force it down, looking away from Carlos. The silence stretches out, on the brink of becoming uncomfortable, but T.K. doesn't think he has any more words left in him, much as he wishes he did. Part of him wants to know what Carlos is thinking; the other part wants more than anything to run before he can get burned again. His addiction's caused him too much trouble with previous boyfriends, and T.K. is pretty sure it was part of the reason why Alex left him. Carlos doesn't seem like that kind of guy - T.K. knows he isn't, really - but his heart won't stop hammering in his chest, and the instinct to get out is only getting stronger by the second.

Then a hand slips into his own and Carlos presses their foreheads together. "I'm sorry you went through all that, T.K.," he whispers. "But you're not alone anymore; you've got your team, and your dad...and me, if you want."

T.K. meets his eyes. "I do. I do, I just -"

"Okay, then." Carlos smiles, that stupid, insufferable, gorgeous smile, and T.K. suddenly feels sick.

"Carlos..." He sighs. "I told you that I've felt numb, ever since I left New York. You make me feels things, strong things. And it scares me to death. I want something with you, I really do, but I'm not ready to go all in yet. I can't. I wish I could, but... I just can't."

"That's okay."

"No, it's not, I -"

"Listen," Carlos says, and T.K. shuts up, nervously biting his lip. "We can figure it out as we go. I don't care how long it takes."

"Really?" Carlos's hand squeezes his, and, for once, T.K. dares to hope.

"Really." He grins. "Besides, you, Tyler Kennedy, are worth the wait."

T.K. groans. "You had to go and ruin it, didn't you?"

But he's laughing, and Carlos's hand feels right in his own, and when Carlos kisses him - brief and feather-light, nothing like the passion of their earlier hook-ups - that feels right too.

And, a few hours after the world nearly ended, with his arms wrapped around the man he knows he's going to fall in love with, T.K. Strand is at peace.

Very excited about this week’s theme because the first fic of an author you read is a little bit like watching the pilot of a TV show that has several seasons, but you’ve only just found it. So you fall in love, and before you know it, you’ve blinked and spent 12 hours binging as many eps as you can. It’s a great feeling, to chase the same elixir of magic in each story someone has written. There are several fics I could mention here, but I challenged myself to choose fics purely from memory because otherwise I’d be here all day looking through my bookmarks. 😂

911 Lone Star

No Right to Love You by @reyescarlos: If you’ve been following me for a while or if we’ve had conversations about our all-time favorite fics, then you’ve read/heard my unhinged praise for No Right to Love You. It is not an understatement to say that this story was my whole personality for the entirety of April 2021 lol. This canon-divergent season 1 finale fic is truly epic and filled me with so many feels (so much yearning!). Kim posted it one chapter at a time over the course of a weekend, and when she posted the final chapter, I was standing in line at the grocery store when I saw the AO3 notification and proceeded to let out a loud yelp of excitement. There were looks.😂 This story and Kim’s writing were worth the public embarrassment, I just love it so much. 🙌🏾 It was my first Kim fic, and I immediately inhaled everything else she had written for LS.  

Begins at Sunrise by @iboatedhere: Ah, Begins at Sunrise. I’ve read so many of Rae’s fics over the last two years, so it’s really fun to think back to the first fic I ever read. TK and Carlos have the “who are we to each other?” talk on a spontaneous beach getaway because Carlos can’t deny TK anything, and their conversations/interactions here are so Them™️. Also, it’s all just very romantic and there’s a beautiful thread of vulnerability that runs through each scene, tugging at your heart. Given that it is a story set in season 1 circa ep 1x10, I appreciate it was written from Carlos POV and gave us some insight into his headspace after TK got shot. He was so in love already. There are a lot of single lines in this fic that pack an emotional wallop in the best way. As soon as I finished reading it, I hit the subscribe button so fast, and every AO3 email notification I’ve received sharing a Rae original has been a joy. 

All Along There Was Some Invisible String Tying You to Me by @tkstrrand: Alternate first meeting AUs are always a lot of fun because I love the notion that these two people will always find one another no matter what. AJ’s dual POV, ER Meet-Cute for TK and Carlos is a personal favorite. The story is lovely, with TK worried about Owen after accompanying him to the ER and Carlos (a stranger at first, also at the ER worried about his partner) stepping in to offer TK kindness and conversation and then eventually both realizing they don’t want their time together to end (and as the reader, you realize you don’t want your time with this version of them to end either). I loved this one a whole lot, and I am grateful it led to me finding more of AJ’s work! 

Red, White, and Royal Blue

Before This, After That by @orchidscript:  

I have a rule about not reading WIPs because I’m just not the most patient person when it comes to waiting for the next chapter (know thyself, etc). So I wait until the entire story is posted, and then I dive in. BUT every so often, a fic comes along and makes itself the exception to my rule. Before This, After That is the most recent exception. I adore this fic—it’s a great example of why I enjoy reading AUs. I love seeing how a writer captures the essence of the characters as individuals as well as the heart of their relationship and translates it into a brand-new world. This AU does it seamlessly with Alex and Henry. There are certain parts of this story that really feel inspired by Henry’s line from canon, “I thought if someone like that ever loved me, it would set me on fire.” Alex is hired to help Henry recover, but he realizes it’s more than just recovering from an injury, Henry needs to be brought back to life. [insert metaphor about Alex’s presence kindling Henry’s motivation to live]

I love how Alex shows care for Henry. There is a scene early on regarding Henry’s pain meds, and through a conversation, Alex swiftly resolves it. It’s a short scene but a really lovely moment. Henry feels so seen and heard in a way that he clearly hasn’t been since being hurt (or maybe ever). The whole exchange made me 😍😭🥹. The slow burn of this fic is fantastic, and I have also really enjoyed the interactions between Bea and Henry and (gasp) even Phillip. Lol. I am eagerly awaiting the next chapter, and as I wait, I’ll be reading more of orchidscript’s catalog!

Ranking of 911 Disaster episodes

I have decided that I would like to rank each episode of 911 and 911 lone star. this is strictly opinion base for myself and I would like to hear if you either agree or disagree with me. 

For this one, I will be ranking the disaster episodes from both shows. so lets start. 

9. Blackout (OG 5x02 5x03) 

The latest disaster episodes for the OG 911, these episodes unfortunately have many plot holes in them and the way the writers decided to just wrap up this storyline and never mention it afterwards just frustrates me. But it did give us the breakup of EddieAna so bonus points there I guess. #Now give us the BUCKTAYLOR breakup and make BUDDIE official!

8. Mudslide (OG 4x02)

I just don’t seem to go back to watch it as much as I do the other disaster episodes. Honestly, I think I do need to go back and watch it again as I don’t really remember much of this episode.

7. Tornado (LS 1x04)

The first Lone Star disaster episode, I like it but I just prefer the other ones. The next one and this one is kind of on the same level path but the next one kind of just had a leg up to this one.

6. Volcano (LS 2x02)

Same as the tornado episode, I kind find myself watching the other episodes more really. The emotion that we get at the end of the episode by the character due to the death of Tim gives it a bonus point but I feel it just doesn’t really have any general feelings towards it as we didn’t particularly see Tim much. Carlos comforting TK though, my heart!

5. Sand storm (LS 2x14)

The season finale of the second series, this episode gives us more of MATEO (thank god!) and Carlos babysitting! 

4. Solar storm (LS 1x10)

Finally gives us Tarlos, enough said,

3. Earthquake (OG 2x02 2x03)

The first real disaster episode, still one of the best episodes the OG show has done. 3rd place as I just prefer watching the other episodes.

2. Wildfire (LS 2x03)

Ah, The crossover episode, this just ranks second due to the fact we get TK calling Buck out for hitting on him.

1: Tsunami (OG 3x02 3x03)

No surprise really for me, I always find myself coming back to these episodes and I still get the same feelings as when I first watched it. The pure emotions of each of the characters is such gold.
