Ce dimanche, la flotte de la 24e édition de La Boulangère Mini Transat est désormais à mi-parcours dans l’étape 2 – Air Caraïbes. Il reste en effet moins de 1 350 milles à parcourir pour la plupart des concurrents qui continuent de cavaler bon train dans les alizés et devraient boucler la distance en moins de cinq jours puisque, selon les derniers routages, les premiers sont attendus en Guadeloupe dans la nuit du 9 au 10 novembre. Reste que si les choses se précisent, tout reste à faire. En l’occurrence, dans l’immédiat, le but du jeu est d’anticiper au mieux la bascule du vent à venir. Une bascule qui pourrait, d’ici les prochaines 48 heures, bien chambouler la hiérarchie actuelle.
Alors que les alizés sont toujours parfaitement bien établis et soufflent régulièrement à une vingtaine de nœuds sur la route des Antilles pour la flotte de La Boulangère Mini Transat, force est de constater que les vitesses des concurrents sont pour le moins disparates. Elles oscillent allégrement entre 6 et 14 nœuds, preuve que tous les marins ne mettent pas le curseur au même endroit. Qu’importe, tous n’ont pas les mêmes objectifs. Si certains sont là avant tout pour vivre une aventure hors-normes et réussir à aller « de l’autre côté », d’autres mettent avant toute autre chose la performance sur le haut de la pile. Parmi eux, on peut évidemment citer Federico Waksman (1019 – Repremar – Shipping Agency Uruguay). Déçu de sa première étape bouclée en 9e position chez les Proto, avec un écart de 4h14 au premier, le Sud-Américain ne lâche rien. Mieux, il met les bouchées doubles. Ces dernières 24 heures, il a ainsi porté son avance de 68 à 100 milles sur son plus proche poursuivant et se positionne idéalement pour la suite. Idem pour tous ceux qui continuent de naviguer tribord amure et qui remontent pour aller chercher la bascule du vent à l’est sud-est dans la dorsale qui se met actuellement en place. « Cette bascule va être intéressante pour les premiers mais les retardataires ne pourront malheureusement pas la jouer », prévient toutefois Christian Dumard, le consultant météo de l’épreuve
Le grand retour des nordistes ?
De fait, ceux qui vont pouvoir l’exploiter au mieux risquent bien de faire une bonne opération. « Lorsque le vent va prendre de la droite, certains auront la possibilité d’aller chercher un retour en bâbord amure très favorable », détaille le spécialiste. Concrètement, qu’est-ce que cela signifie ? En ce sens, il conviendra aussi de garder à l’œil la petite bande composée d’Ulysse David (1025 – Equans), Alessandro Torresani (1012 – Porco Rosso), et Michaël Gendebien (921 – Barillec Marine – Actemium) car il n’est pas à exclure qu’elle se replace rapidement aux avant-postes. Bref, on l’a compris, les dés sont encore loin d’être jetés, même s’il faut bien avouer que des écarts conséquents se sont créés au sein du peloton puisque celui-ci s’étire maintenant sur plus de 400 milles. Six-cent si l’on prend en compte Peter Gibbons Neff qui a, pour sa part, réussi le tour de force de réparer son problème de safran et qui a ainsi repris la mer sur les coups de 23 heures la nuit dernière, après une escale de douze heures à Mindelo.
