Dude when I was reading your fic (which is AMAZING btw keep up the good work!!!🤝🥰) and Henry got introduced my mind almost immediately pictured him looking like Gilbert Blythe from Anne with an E
okay NO but i actually thought about him!!! in my mind Henry was always Skandar but i went through multiple options in my head to make sure and new age Gilbert was def one of the ones that came to mind!! i grew up watching the old 1980s Anne of Green Gables (yes, it was made before i was born, but it’s so good 🥹) and i also love old school Gilbert in those movies

Charlotte Town
requests are open!
masterlist
Tumblr media
It was saturday morning and you had just woken up when your mother stormed into your room.
"Y/n get up you need to go to Charlotte Town!" your mother opened your curtains letting in some sunlight.
you squinted your eyes at how bright the light was. "why do I have to go all the way to Charlotte town?" you ask confused.
"I need you to pick something up for me" your mother said handing you a note with an adress on it. you groaned and got up.
"you're going with Gilbert Blythe he's going to Charlotte Town as well." your mother said.
you froze. maybe today wasn't as bad after all. "yea he goes every Saturday" you say before taking your favorite dress out of your closet.
your mother walked out to make you breakfast. you quickly got dressed and ran downstairs. Gilbert was sitting at your kitchen table. you smiled.
"hey Gil" you said before kissing his cheek and sitting down next to him.
"morning Y/n" he smiled at you as you took a bite of your toast.
you and Gilbert were good friends, but there was definitely more going on between you two and everyone knew it. even you two knew, but neither of you had the guts to act on it.
"Y/n here's your bag. there's some money inside." your mother said handing you your bag.
"thanks" you mumbled finishing your breakfast. You stood up ready to leave as your mother turned towards you.
"be careful you two" she said before looking at Gilbert. "and Gilbert keep an eye on her" she said causing you to chuckle.
"mom we'll be fine" you said before kissing her cheek and getting your coat.
Gilbert followed you outside as he walked next to you. you were just enjoying each other's company while walking towards the train station.
Gilbert put his arm around you pulling you close. you look up to him and smile feeling your cheeks heat up.
when both get on a train as you sit down next to him. "I'm so tired," you said yawning.
Gilbert chuckled as he thought you looked adorable. "you can sleep for a few minutes if you like" he said and you nodded laying your head on his shoulder.
his heart started beating faster at your touch. he brought his hand up to your hair and played with it till you fell asleep. he just stared at you as the sunlight fell onto your face.
"you're breathtaking" he whispered underneath his breath so you wouldn't hear.
"Y/n we're here" he said nudging your shoulder. you woke up not knowing what year it was. you blinked a few times as you lifted your head from Gilbert's shoulder.
you followed him onto the station. "where do you need to go?" he asked putting his hand on your back leading you away from the train. "the pawn shop" you said looking around.
"it's over there" he said pointing at a small shop. "I have to go but I'll meet you back here in two hours?" he said giving you a smile.
"two hours?" you asked while widening your eyes. "I'm not gonna wait that long I'll come and find you when I'm done" You said causing Gilbert to chuckle.
"okay but be careful" he said as he kissed your cheek.
"bye Gil" you said as you waved at him. he waved back and started walking in the direction of the doctor's office. he smiled at the nickname you gave him as he felt his cheeks turn a light shade of pink.
You walked over to the pawn shop. you started looking around for your mother's necklace. when you found it it was about half an hour later. you quickly paid for it and got out of the shop.
outside the sun was shining as you started walking towards the doctors office. you smiled as you saw Gilbert walking around.
"hey Gil" you said with a small smile. he turned his head in your direction as his eyes lit up when he saw you.
"hey Y/n, did you find whatever you were looking for?" he asked walking over to you and kissed your cheek. you blushed lightly as you nodded.
"can I help you with something?" you asked tilting your head a little to the side.
"I need to clean some stuff but I could use some help." he said scratching his neck.
you followed him into a different room and helped him clean. "what even is this" you chuckled as you held up some sort of tool.
"I don't know, I've never seen Dr. Ward use it" he said chuckling.
you looked at the smile on his face. he looked absolutely adorable. you noticed you were staring at eachother and you cleared your throat.
Gilbert quickly looked back down as he started cleaning again. when you were finished he walked into some room to say goodbye to Dr. Ward. after that you both walked out.
"when is the last train leaving?" you asked as you linked your arm with Gilbert's.
"in an hour," he said smiling at your touch.
"good because I'm starving and there's a bakery over there" you said dragging him along with you towards the bakery.
he chuckled as he gladly followed you. he pulled a chair back for you to sit down. you smiled thinking about how adorable he looked.
he sat down across from you as you ordered a cup of tea and a piece of apple pie. Gilbert ordered the same.
you both stared at each other until the food and drinks arrived.
you immediately took a bite. "hmm this is good" you said with your mouth full.
Gilbert looked at you with sparkling eyes as he thought you looked cute. he wanted this day to never end.
after you both finished your food and drinks you just chatted.
"Y/n... I was hoping we could do this again sometime. I enjoy your company" he smiled at you as you nodded.
"of course" you said returning his smile. you stared at eachother in silence until he suddenly widened his eyes.
"We have to go or we'll miss the last train" he said standing up. your eyes shot up towards the clock and you quickly stood up.
Gilbert took your hand and dragged you out of the bakery as you both ran towards the station.
"all aboard!" you heard someone yell as Gilbert quickly hopped on. you suddenly noticed your bag wasn't on your shoulder.
you started looking around. "Gilbert I forgot my bag" you say slightly panicking when he yelled at you to hop on.
"what?" he said as he looked around the station.
"I can't leave without my bag." you say.
"we can't miss this train!" he yelled.
"all aboard final call" you heard in the distance.
"Gilbert!" you yelled. he looked around and sighed as he hopped of the train.
"seriously Y/n!?" he said annoyed. "now we can't get back home!" he ran his fingers through his hair as the train left behind him.
"Im sorry but I can't leave my bag here" you said slightly annoyed by his yelling.
"How can you be so stupid to just leave it!" he looked at you while you frowned at his mean words.
"this isn't all my fault!" you yelled back at him.
he raised his eyebrows. "so it's my fault that you forgot your bag?" he asked.
"I never said that!" you yelled.
he sighed and scratched his neck. "We'll have to get a hotel room" he said starting to walk back towards the bakery.
you quickly grabbed your bag from under the table and checked your belongings. you didn't say a word as you and Gilbert walked towards the nearest hotel.
"how can I help you two?" the man behind the counter asked looking at you and Gilbert.
"we would both like a room." he said. the man nodded and gave you both a receipt.
you widened your eyes as you whispered to Gilbert. "I can't afford that" you had a panicked expression on your face.
Gilbert sighed. "we'll only be getting one room" he said to the man behind the counter. you handed back the receipt as the man was slightly annoyed.
Gilbert paid the man as he got a key handed to him. you took out your wallet and gave Gilbert half the amount of money from the room.
Gilbert didn't look at you as you both walked up the stairs. Gilbert unlocked the door and walked in. he sighed. "there's only one bed" he said not looking at you.
"oh" you said closing the door. you blushed as you knew you had to sleep with Gilbert next to you. you mentally scolded yourself for forgetting your bag and not taking more money with you.
It was almost time to get to sleep as you cleaned your face. Gilbert was sitting on the bed looking out the window.
you sighed. "I hope my mother doesn't get too worried" you say chuckling. Gilbert rolled his eyes.
you frowned. "are you really mad at me for forgetting my bag?" you asked as he looked up.
"yes. I just don't understand how you could be so stupid" he says with a frown. "You dragged me along with you before I could even think about my bag." you yell.
"Don't you dare blame this on me" he said with fire in his eyes.
"I'm not but you're being mean to me for forgetting something and stuff like that happens sometimes." you looked at him as you thought he was acting ridiculous.
"How am I being mean?" he asked frowning again.
"You called me stupid. twice. and you keep yelling and glaring at me." tears were forming in your eyes.
Gilbert's expression softed as he realized he hurt you. "I'm so sorry" he said standing up and laying a hand on your shoulder.
"I'm just a little freaked out by the situation" he said while he scratched his neck and looked over at the bed. "You see I planned out this whole day and then it didn't go as planned and I freaked out, I should've have reacted that way" he said as you squeezed his hand gently.
"it's okay Gil but we're fine I don't understand why you're freaking out it's not like we have to sleep on the streets" you said as you chuckled to lighten the mood.
"do you have any idea how terrifying it is to sleep next to the person you love?" he asked, immediately widening his eyes and throwing his hand in front of his mouth.
you gasped as you widened your eyes. "you love me?"
Gilbert started to panic as he tried to say something. "I uhh I can't... I can't believe I just... I just said that..." he stuttered while his face flushed red.
you took his hands and squeezed them gently. "I love you too Gil" you said letting go of one of his hands to cup his face.
you let your fingers trace his cheek as he shivered under your touch. he blushed as he looked at you with his heart eyes. he put his hand on your waist pulling you closer as he stared at your lips slowly leaning in.
his lips collided with yours as you softly ran your fingers through his hair. fireworks of emotions exploded in your stomach as Gilbert deepened the kiss.
you needed to break away for air as Gilbert looked at you with a grin on his face. his eyes were sparkling as he held on to your waist. he wrapped his other arm aroud your waist as well as you wrapped both your arms around his neck.
"my mother is going to kill you," you whispered as you chuckled.
"worth it."

Chapter Ten - Gilbert Blythe
Tumblr media
Word Count: 852
Warnings: Fluff
Summary: The final chapter! Things finally come together for the two as confessions are made.
A/N: I’m aware this is incredibly late but I finally give you the tenth and final chapter of ten goodbyes, thank you so much for reading these past months year.
You can find the series masterlist and the rest of my writing by clicking the link in my bio!
Her words made Gilbert furrow his eyebrows. (y/n)’s tone of voice made him fear the worst, his stomach flipping with worry.
He’d only just got her back.
Gilbert stayed silent, urging her to continue as he kept eye contact. It seemed sudden. No one had mentioned her coming back to school when they’d visited for dinner. But here she was with bright eyes and a soft smile.
Despite all the time (y/n) had rehearsed the conversation in her head, being there in person was somehow surreal. For a moment she faltered in place while looking over at him. In reality, Gilbert could never compare to the mirror she practiced on or even her mother because when she tried to open her mouth all words abandoned her.
He watched her struggle, confused as to what was going on. (y/n) closed her mouth after a moment of letting it hang open as she tried to desperately form the right words.
Nothing seemed fitting for the moment.
She felt foolish, Gilbert standing in front of her as their friends began the crowd in front of the schoolhouse window to watch what was going to happen. Her eyes flickered over to see everyone staring, Ruby front and center whispering to Diana. The butterflies in (y/n)’s stomach started growing, her cheeks growing red in embarrassment her mind still unable to come up with the words she intended to say.
Gilbert noticed the crowd behind him after her glance, turning back to (y/n) with a soft smile. “Do you want to go somewhere more private?”
She softly nodded her head before looking back at the window, Ruby’s eyebrows raised. Turning back to Gilbert she noticed his hand held out to her. Taking it hesitantly he walked her over to a group of trees just far enough out of eyesight from their classmates.
It was obvious, even to him, that whatever (y/n) had intended to say had long disappeared once he looked into her sad eyes. She felt so defeated. She’d practiced in the mirror, to her mother, to her pillow even. Just to lose her breathe when she looked at Gilbert.
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, “You know you can tell me anything, right?” She nodded her head again. “No matter what it may be I’ll always be here for you.”
(y/n) took his words into consideration, the butterflies finally beginning to die down as she looked into his eyes. He felt safe, Gilbert felt like home. Nothing compared to the feeling of being around him.
“I know things have been...strange lately,” She began, trying not to let her eyes trail off to the schoolhouse where her classmates were inevitably talking about them. “but I want you to know how much you mean to me.”
Gilbert couldn’t help but let the corners of his mouth turn up into a smile as she kept going with her little speech. “I don’t exactly mean in a friend way either. We’ve been so close for so long and if you don’t feel the same then I understand, but Gilbert Blythe I’m in love with you.”
(y/n) was visibly gaining confidence the more she spoke, her chin held high as determination painted her face. “Whenever I’m with you everything just feels right and when you were gone I felt lost and alone, with just the necklace to guide me. I’ve never felt anything like this for anyone, and couldn’t go without confessing any longer.”
Gilbert's smile had turned into a full on grin as she went on and on, every word making his stomach feel light and his heart flutter. He cherished every sentence, every syllable, every vowel and he knew he’d never forget them. Overcome with emotion Gilbert couldn’t help but cross the divide between them and wrap his arms around her, his hand finding its way into her hair and resting his forehead on hers.
Stunned, (y/n) went silent, eyes wide as her heart echoed in her ears waiting for his next move. This wasn’t the first time they’d hugged, no where close, but this time it felt oh so different for the pair. It felt fragile, like anything could shatter the moment but it made them feel alive with every breath.
“I love you too. I knew when I was a thousand miles away and you were the only thing on my mind.”
At this point both (y/n) and Gilbert were stood among the trees arms wrapped around each other with the biggest grins imaginable. Gone were the nervous butterflies and tripping over words, in the moment they just had each other and that was all they needed. “Are you going to leave again?” She asked, her smile still unwavering as she looked at him.
“Never, I’m not leaving again. In fact I don’t think you’ll be getting rid of me after this.”
With that they walked back into the schoolhouse hand in hand, ready to take on the world - in other words Ruby. But none of that mattered to them, they were happy.
What more could want after all this time other than each other.

“Tell nobody?” anne asked, her eyebrows raised. “[Y/N]!‌ I don’t know if you know, but I am terrible at keeping se—”
“Shush!‌‌ He is approaching us at this very moment.”
A squeak released from Anne’s throat as you quickly shoved your nose back into your book. The very second Gilbert stepped into your presence, you could already feel yourself sweating profusely from all the nervous tension.
“Good evening ladies,” he greeted politely. He looked over at Anne with a kind smile. “hello Anne.”
“I…I can’t do this!” anne shouted, immediately grabbing her bag. Gilbert’s eyes followed her movements as she walked around him and away. “I just can’t!”
“Alright then?” gilbert spoke in bewilderment, his eyes traveling back to you, only to find you packing up your things too. “Oh come on, I can’t be that scary [Y/N].”
You remained silent, because you knew the minute you opened up your mouth, complete nonsense would be the next thing to come out of your mouth. You froze as you saw his figure step in front of you in attempt of making an escape. You swallowed a lump in your throat and avoided his gaze.
“[Y/N], I came over here to ask a very important question,” asked the black haired boy. “I was wondering if you were free tomorrow night? I would love to take you on a date.”
“D-Date?” you stuttered, raising your eyes up to meet his. “I-I would love that Gilbert.”

Third Times A Charm // Gilbert Blythe
Tumblr media
Hi! So one of my favourite romantic tropes is person A secretly leaving notes for Person B, even if the notes aren't that romantic (e.g. they just wish the person a nice day!). I was wondering if you would be able to do a prompt like this for Gilbert Blythe? (Maybe as a bonus, Reader figures out pretty quickly he's the one leaving her notes, but they don't say anything b/c they don't want it to end?) Much thanks and have a lovely day!!
Requested by: @libraryoffandomsuniverse
Author’s Notes: I PROMISE YOU ALL THAT TOMORROW I WILL BE UPLOADING REQUESTS OTHER THAN MY GILBERT REQUESTS! It’s just... i’m half-way through season two and I adore Gilbert so much.
Please don’t plagiarize my work - I spend a lot of my time writing, copying and pasting destroys that. If you want to repost my work. please ask first - but even then I might say no.
Word Count: 1,810
-
The first time you received a note, you hadn’t had a clue who it was from.
You’d been returning to your desk after lunch, your lips curled up into a bright smile as you laughed at something Diana and Anne had to say. The moment you sat down, the first thing you noticed was the neatly folded note left on top of your books and such.
It had promptly baffled you.
You had glanced around the room, in hopes that maybe your wandering eyes would tell you who it was that had left you a note. But alas, they did not and you were left clueless as you peeled the folded note open.
And in six simple words, the note read; your smile brightens up the room.
You felt your heart warm at the words, despite not knowing who the author was. Truthfully, it was one of the kindest things anyone had ever said to you and you felt your cheeks flush gently in response. You would’ve stared at the note longer, in amazement, if you had not heard Mr. Phillips enter the room.
Quickly making sure no one had seen the note - God forbid Anne found it and her romantical tales of your secret admirer begun - you tucked it into the pocket of your dress, smiling softly to yourself.
You failed to notice the set of eyes on you, and the smile that grew on his lips when he saw your reaction to his note.
The second time you received a note, you were just as confused.
It was a few days later since the first one, and truthfully after never receiving one the day after, you hadn’t expected one to come again. But you were pleasantly surprised to see another note, neatly folded of course, on top of your things once again after returning from lunch.
You sat down in your seat next to Diana with a new-found excitement, barely noticing the curious gaze Diana held on you as you peeled the note open. Once again, with thirteen simple words, the note read; I love the way your eyes sparkle when you’re doing something you love.
It was a little longer than the first, but you didn’t mind. Rather, you found yourself even more flattered than the first time.
You gasped, though, a moment later, watching as the note was practically pulled from your hand. You spun, wide eyes falling on Diana as she grinned brightly at you. “What’s this?” She teased, raising a suspecting brow.
“No-Nothing!” You stammered, reaching for the note. Diana pulled it out of your grasp before you could, as you hastily glanced around, desperate for no one to know of your ordeal.
Reaching forward once again, you pulled the note from Diana’s hands, tucking it safely in the pocket of your dress. “It’s nothing,” you repeated, voice more assured. Diana didn’t press the matter, but you knew your red cheeks were plain obvious.
The third time you received a note, it wasn’t hard to find out who it was sending you them.
Everything was laid out the same. Just, this time it hadn’t taken a few days for a new note to arrive. Rather, you received the third letter the next day, and you found yourself positively delighted.
You quickly sat down, failing to notice Anne who was making her way over to you, Diana by her side, as you peeled open the note. Part of you wondered if you should wait until you got home, in fear that you’d be caught by Anne, or Diana again. Or worse, Billy or Mr. Phillips.
But your heart couldn’t handle the wait.
So, opening the note hastily, but carefully, your wide eyes scanned across the words written beautifully across the page, giddy.
I love the way you smile when you’re with your friends.
It was almost too similar to the note left previously, but it still made your heart flutter.
“Oh! How romantical!”
Almost like the day before, the note was pulled from your hands with no chance to stop it. This time though, it wasn’t Diana, but rather Anne. And, you knew immediately you’d never hear the end of this.
“Girls,” she exclaimed, bright, twinkling eyes reading across the words written on the page. “Y/N has a secret admirer.”
You set your head in your hands, leaning against the desk adjacent to you with a deep sigh. You remained silent, refusing to answer the girls (mainly Anne’s) million questions about when this had started, if you had any clue who it was and how many you received. Plus, many more.
Instead, you watched as your precious note was passed around each girl, giggles of excitement leaving their lips, before your eyes slid across the room. Just before you turned back around to your desk, your eyes caught sight of Gilbert just turning forward himself, a small, cocky smile on his lips as his cheeks flushed slightly.
And then it clued in. Gilbert Blythe was your secret admirer.
The notes kept coming, until you had a rather large collection of them all.
When you’d found out Gilbert was your secret admirer, the better, more sensible part of you, told yourself you should tell him you knew. See where it lead things and get to the bottom of it - why was he leaving you these notes? And what did he gain from leaving you sweet, little compliments day after day, wasting paper?
But the truth of the matter was, you rather enjoyed them. You didn’t want them to end, so you kept your mouth shut. In fear that if you told Gilbert you knew, he’d stop sending them.
You let it carry on for days.
You tried your best to keep them hidden from the other girls, but they weren’t plain stupid. Once they figured out they came in everyday, the girls would race to your desk after lunch before you could even reach it yourself. More often then not, they read the note before you even had the chance to you.
It took some of the fun out of it, but you’d distract yourself but subtly glancing Gilbert’s way to gauge his reaction. It seemed he disliked the idea of the other girls reading it before you as well, but couldn’t say anything. Given that he was, well, your secret admirer.
It continued on like that for a while. You hid the notes from your parents, stashing them in a prized box kept under your bed. You weren’t sure of the reaction your parents would have, especially your mother, if they saw the many notes left for you, varying degrees of compliments left on them.
It almost became like a routine.
Until, today.
It had been like any other day originally. The girls and you would step outside, or create a little hut for yourselves for lunch, blocking yourself from the sight of the boys. At first, the conversation had always been about what kind of note you’d receive that day, since they always seemed to be different. But now, as days passed, the conversation was kept diverse until lunch was over.
The girls sprang up faster than you could, as always, and Anne in the front as they raced to your desk. You’d trail behind them, waiting patiently for your turn to see your note as you listened to them giggle and Anne tell stories of romantic endeavours.
But, it seemed Billy was tired of being kicked to the back, unable to see what the fuss was about. When you finally managed to clean up the little area you’d all made, you’d heard Anne angrily call Billy’s name and turn to see him snatching the note out of the very girls hand.
“Who’s this for then?” He asked, raising a brow as he turned to the group of girls. His eyes slid across from them to you, and it seemed your flushed cheeks and wide eyes gave him his answer. “It’s for you?” He questioned, insinuating that the idea was impossible.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, frozen in place as Billy took daring steps your way. You didn’t move nor say anything, as he continued to tease you. “Y/N Y/L/N has a secret admirer?”
You knew the bright grin on his face was anything but good.
Turning to the rest of the boys, and the select few that were his friends, he laughed, them, of course, joining him. “Who would even want to be your secret admirer?”
You felt your eyes fall shut, embarrassed by the laughs the echoed around the room.
It wasn’t until you heard; “I would,” did you finally open your eyes once again.
Your lips parted, eyes widening in bafflement as you saw Gilbert stand up from his seat at his desk. Crossing his arms over his chest, he raised a challenging brow at Billy.
Billy looked like a mix between threatened and surprised; “you’re the one sending Y/N these notes?”
“Everyday for the past two weeks,” he confirmed, without a care, nodding his head. Your eyes never left Gilbert as he begun walking, stepping over to your side, almost protectively. “So, I suggest, you leave Y/N alone.”
Billy’s cheeks flamed in embarrassment, but he said no more, but turned to leave, only to be interrupted by Gilbert; “and i’d like the note back.”
Almost as if on a walk of shame, Billy stomped back over to GIlbert, handing him the note he’d left for you, before stalking back over to his desk. And then, in front of the whole class, Gilbert turned to you with one of those smiles only he could accomplish, extending the note to you.
You accepted it with albeit shaky hands, brushing back a strand of lose hair behind your ear. “Thank you,” you mumbled, voice barely audible. Though, you did manage a small smile, of gratitude, up at Gilbert. Or rather, for him.
Gilbert nodded, turning to leave, but just before he did, he whispered; “your smile really is something else.”
You were left stunned for a moment, standing at the front of the class with the note grasped in your hand tightly. It wasn’t until Mr. Phillip’s walked in, thankfully five minutes late, bellowing; “return to your seat, Y/N!”
You followed without hesitation, tucking your head down as you made your way back to your seat. You ignored the sniffling you heard from Ruby behind you, the glare you received from Josie and the star-stricken expressions you received from both Anne and Diana. And you knew Gilbert was staring at your back, smiling at you just like he had before.
But you didn’t pay mind to that, and focused on Mr. Phillips listen, somewhat embarrassed.
Though, nothing could hide the smile still left on your lips as you gripped onto Gilbert’s newest note with deep care and appreciation.

Gilbert Blythe was someone who was dreamy when it was said by all the girls in his class, except one. Y/n L/n has this hatred on the Blythe boy that came naturally.
She couldn’t stand the fact that every girl was talking about him like he was some god, and they boy were always cheering him on like he was a hero.
Same goes for Gilbert, he didn’t like her because he didn’t have her wrapped around his finger like all the other girls, it drove him mad.
She was feisty and not afraid to speak her mind, she had no filter which meant that she would literally say anything without realizing how much she could hurt another person.
But yet she was so kindhearted when someone was crying, Gilbert has seen her hug Diana once when Anne and Diana needed to separate because her mother thought Anne was a bad influence.
*^*^*
The next morning Y/n was walking to school when she saw a familiar curly haired boy, the boy soon noticed the girl and turned around.
“Nice to see you, Y/n.” He spoke sarcastically, “Can’t say the same about you, Blythe.” She walked past the boy making them bump shoulder but Gilbert wasn’t going to let her get satisfied that easily.
He took a hold of her wrist and pulled her to him making the two get incredibly close, “Why do you always have to play with fire, L/n?” He whispered lowly.
But what the two didn’t notice was that there was a sexual tension between the two of them, all the other class mates noticed it even ruby but they didn’t.
“I love to play with fire, now let me go.” She told him and tried to pull away from his grip but he was too strong, he held her a little tighter enough to hold her in place but not to hurt her. He made sure he didn’t hurt her.
It took her all her straight to push him to the ground and run away, Gil grunts as he hit the ground but quickly stood up to run after her.
As soon as he reached the school he saw all their class mates were still outside of school, he looked around and she the young girl standing with Diana and Anne.
He always was fond of Anne, she was pretty but she wasn’t Y/n. Sure Anne would put a argument with him but Y/n would pick fights. He loved how feisty She was but god forbid him to say it out loud.
Mr Philips (I kinda forgot his name…) opened the door with the same annoyed expression as always as the teens started walking in the school house.
As always Y/n, Diana and Anne were the first to get inside as the other followed soon after but Gilbert kept his distance.
There were still people that needed to come to school so the teacher hasn’t started the class yet, Gil scanned the class and soon found the h/c haired girl sitting on the other side of the room.
With billy.
“Come on, just one date.” Billy said with an angry expression, “why are you so fucking annoying?” He groaned.
“I don’t wanna date someone who will call me names.” She argued back at him standing up.
“You don’t want me to call you names? How about I call you slut? Or bitch? Or whore?” Y/n’s face turned red, from anger and sadness, Gilbert saw the way her eyes started to water and that pulled him over the edge.
He stood up to Charlie’s surprise and tapped Billy’s shoulder, billy turned around with a big grin as he saw Gil.
Gil punched him square in the face making billy fell to the ground, he grabbed his collar and pulled him up, “Come on, hit me. Be the tough guy you try to be. Hit me.”
Billy tried to punch Gilbert but was pulled back, billy looked up to see Y/n. Tears were streaming down her eyes as she gave him a good push as he stamped (?) back.
Gil stared at the girl as she turned to him, she ran to him and wrapped her arms around Gil as he stood there frozen in shook.
“I’m sorry I’ve been so mean to you, Gil.” Gil Smiles gently and kissed the top of her head as he wrapped his arms around her neck pulling her even closer to him as if he was trying to protect him from all the danger in this cruel world.
“I’m sorry too.”

Tumblr media
And it was like everything just stopped.
Y/n felt her heart thump out from her chest, heavy and uneven breathing escaping her just parted lips and things became an echo and blur to her. She was in all sorts, she had no idea what was happening to her and that only made the situation worse.
Gilbert had been staring at her with a gentle smile, though his figure didn't focus in Y/n's blinking eyes, and so she turned her head around to try and hear what everything was saying. Whispers and talk that only seemed deformed like someone had clasped their hands over her ears and covered them.
Nothing looked or sounded right.
"Y/n?"
She heard his static voice again.
Y/n whipped herself around almost too fast for her blurred head, she didn't feel like she was on land right now although her feet were directly standing. Gilbert Blythe was now looking at her worriedly, her fast and jumpy actions - that she thought were slow and out of focus - were making the tall brunette confused.
He could only imagine what she was thinking right.
But Y/n wasn't thinking, she couldn't think. With her breathing speeding up and unbalancing literally everything that once was calm, Y/n thought the least about talking to Gilbert, she needed to get out of there though. Like bubbles of angst and anger rumbling in her stomach were catching up to her throat and the paranoia of choking herself was scaring her.
"I-I have to go," Was the only thing that Y/n said before dropping her brown basket and turning around, feeling her body take control when her feet started to quickly run out of the classroom, her loose hair flowing behind her due to the fast speed.
She didn't know where she was going, but she didn't care. That was the least of Y/n's worries, she was worried about herself and why she suddenly fell into a trap of anxiety. She would've expected to cry, or yell at him, but to run away from him was what she hadn't been expecting. But that's how life was; drastic changes at the most chaotic times.
The sad girl landed herself in the midst of all the trees to the middle of the woods, sun shining down on her and she wished for it to sashay away, she wanted the opposite, she didn't want this happy setting around her. She was needy. And needy she was, Y/n pleaded for everything sad. Rain, grey angry clouds, a cold and sad, sad Winter's day.
Y/n sat down on a large brown log, not caring so much that it was dirty, she really didn't care even in the slightest. Propping her elbows up on her knees, she dug her head in her shaky hands and finally let everything go and escape her mouth.
Tears, oh so many tears cascaded down her puffy red cheeks, and she broke a little more within each sad drop fell. She didn't seem to be uneven on her breathing anymore but more on the fact that she was crying, that had taken over everything. "How could he? How could he make me so...sad!" Y/n wailed, throwing her hands up when a loud huff left her cracking voice, "It's his fault, it's all Gilbert's fault!"
Then there was a moment of silence when she dropped her hands back down, having no energy to cry anymore as Y/n stared hopelessly into the distance of the enormous dark trees.
"Do you really mean all of that?"
Y/n jumped more scared now, whipping her head around to find - yet again - the Gilbert Blythe; the boy she really didn't want to see right now. She wouldn't stop her anger for taking over, she knew this wasn't going to be pretty and so the young girl clenched her jaw tightly before standing up slowly. Gilbert - on the other hand - looked nearly as heartbroken as she felt, although Y/n caught the love bug exceptionally bad this time.
"Every single word,"
Y/n definitely wasn't going to lie at a moment like this. No matter how many times she would fib her way around to make life a little easier, but there was no way she would be beating life at an obstacle like this.
"I hate you,"
Gilbert felt taken aback, his heart raced a little as his lips parted from the small gasp that left his throat, "Y-You really don't mean that,"
"I wish I could," Y/n snapped right back, and what a piercing and pained glare she sent the boy only half a dozen metres away from her. She sniffled quietly before shaking her head frantically, "you hurt me so, so much, Gilbert. And you didn't even realise it! You left me without telling me, do you know how upset I was? I thought that I wasn't good enough for you anymore, I thought our friendship didn't matter to you anymore...I thought I didn't matter to you!"
The brunette ran a hand through his hair, licking his lips as he felt himself on the verge of crying, "Of course you matter to me, Y/n. You always will. I was in a dark time and I really just needed to leave, I wanted to you to come with me and all-"
"-But you didn't, you didn't, Gilbert. And I really wonder why," Y/n cut him off, rubbing her emotionally drained face. "Look, I was broken as well after your father died. Obviously not as broken as you must've been but John was...is important to me too, and you just left!"
Gilbert went to open his mouth, though nothing come out, and he closed it as he let Y/n's upsetting words hit him like a ton of bricks.
"Not all of us were okay afterwards, I needed love and support. Yes, Anne and Diana were there for me to make me feel happy, but I never was satisfied, because you, Gilbert Blythe, weren't there with me. That was all that I needed." She choked back a sob, flickering her watery eyes up now at Gilbert's. He had been wiping tears away as he watched the girl right in front of him crumble within each word she said, and it hurt him to see such a once bright girl become so dull. "And why did I need you so much? It's a question that I would always ask myself every day. But one day, one day I was able to answer it without a single stutter leaving my voice,"
Y/n felt the sob coming back, it was coming.
"Because no one could love me the way you would."
And everything really did collapse after that.
Gilbert cried as well, he tried to be quiet, but he couldn't stop himself from taking steps closer to her and so did Y/n, and he hugged her as tight as hugs could get. He really didn't want to let go, the boy was not even planning on it. His sorries that were whispered into her hair sounded like a chant, with his arms never loosening and tears rolling down his face.
And even though Y/n didn't want this, she hugged him back with the same emotions back. She really could never hate him, never, ever, ever. It was a thing that was impossible to the two's minds, something that wasn't existent to one another.
When Y/n pulled away and Gilbert caught her cheeks in his hands, he went to send her a small comforting smile but seeing Y/n's unemotional expression and physically stepping herself away from him made him frown and he bit his lip softly, "Y/n, please say something."
So she did, but not the words that the devastated boy wanted to hear from the girl who once wore braids in her hair.
"Goodbye, Gilbert."

Give Me A Chance
masterlist
Tumblr media
"Morning beautiful" you turned around to see the curly haired boy you fancied. only you didn't know you did. "morning Gilbert" you said walking on and ignoring his presence. "can I walk with you" he asks catching up to you. "actually I was enjoying a little peace and quiet" you said not looking up at him. "I can stare at you silence" he said. you felt your cheeks turn a light shade of pink. "suit yourself," you said.
you didn't even have to look at Gilbert to know he was smirking. he always smirked when you blushed. he didn't talk for the remainder of the walk. he only stared at you intensely.
you approached the school and he opened the door for you. "thank you," you said before hanging up your coat and walking over to your seat next to Diana. you sighed and sat down. "what's wrong Y/n?" she asked with a small frown. "Gilbert Blythe" you answered groaning. "he walked with me this morning. I told him I wanted peace and quiet and he said he'd just stare at me in silence, can you believe that, "I can. he's Gilbert he's done this stuff before." Diana chuckles. "it's driving me mad" you said and chuckled. "he's just being sweet" she says. "I know" you smile. you would never admit it but you kinda liked the compliments. suddenly you feel something hit your shoulder. it's a crumbled up piece of paper. you fold it open and read it.
you're smiling really hard. thinking about me? g.b.
p.s. your smile lights up the whole classroom.
you blush and hand the note over to Diana she reads it and starts giggling. you look over at Gilbert who's smirking at you. he grabs a piece of paper and starts writing. he throws it at you. you quickly unfold it.
you look cute when you blush. g.b.
you look up at him and he winks at you. you blush even harder and quickly turn back to Diana handing her the second note. "he just winked at me!" you whisper, you look over at Gilbert again and he's staring at you. "give me your pen," you say to Diana. you grab a piece of paper and start writing.
it's rude to stare blythe. y/n
you toss the paper on his desk. he quickly reads it and smirks at you before writing another note and tossing it to you.
but you love it. g.b.
you did but you weren't going to give him the satisfaction of knowing.
I do not! y/n
you toss the paper over to his desk. he reads it and starts writing again. will he ever stop? secretly you didn't want him to. he tossed a note again and you catched it quickly folding it open.
yes, you do and can you blame me for staring when you look so absolutely gorgeous all the time? g.b.
your heart fluttered at his words and your cheeks heat up once again. you glance over at Gilbert. unsurprisingly there was a big smirk on his face. another note fell on your desk.
there's that adorable blush again. g.b.
you were about to write something back but Mr Phillips walked into the classroom. "Sit down and open your readers to page 36" he said in his usual monotone voice. you opened your book and tried to concentrate on the lesson. but with Gilbert's eyes on you constantly you just couldn't. you wrote another note and asked Anne to give it to Gilbert.
would you please stop staring at me? y/n
Gilbert read the note slightly chuckling. he smirked as he wrote his response. he tossed the note over to you so none of the other girls would read it first.
only if you go on a date with me. g.b.
your eyes widened and you looked over at him. why not? what was the worst that could happen you weren't going to fall for him. you nodded blushing slightly. a big smile appeared on his face as he blew you a kiss. you chuckled and rolled your eyes causing Gilbert to chuckle as well. he stopped staring for the remainder of the lesson. he must've really wanted that date.
At lunch he walked over to you while you were sitting with your friends. they nudged your shoulder and pointed at Gilbert standing behind you. of course all the girls had seen you two were exchanging notes.
"Y/n can I talk to you" he looked a little nervous as all your friends started giggling. you stood up and walked after him. "do I sense some nerves blythe?" you asked. this time it was your turn to smirk. he blushed. "about that date... you don't have to if you don't want to" he said fiddling with his fingers. "I promised you I'd go on a date with you so I'm going on a date with you" you said smiling. Gilbert now had a grin on his face.
why do I want this? I'm not falling for him right?
"how about today?" he asked with sparkling eyes. "we could have a picnic on the hill and watch the sunset." his eyes where hopeful. your heart melted at how romantic that sounded and you nodded. "sounds lovely" you said kissing him on the cheek and walking back to the girls. his cheeks were burning which didn't happen alot so you smiled to yourself.
you sat back down with your friends and they started to ask you all kinds of questions. "do you have a crush on him?" Jane asked giggling. "no... yes... I don't even know at this point" you said burying your head into your hands. "boys are confusing" you said causing the girls to chuckle.
After class you waited outside for Gilbert. he walked out and his eyes lit up when he saw you. "meet me up the hill in an hour" he said. "maybe bring a blanket to sit on" he smiled at you causing you to blush. "okay" you said smiling. "see you in an hour" you kissed his cheek and started to walk home.
when you were out of Gilbert's sight you started running so you would have more time to get ready. so did Gilbert. he ran towards his house with a big smile on his face. he swung open the front door and stormed into the kitchen. "Bash! I need help!" he yelled looking for food to bring.
Bash came running into the kitchen. "what's wrong?" he asked with a concerned expression on his face. Gilbert smiled. "I asked Y/n on a date" he said before grabbing a basket and putting in all kinds of food. "ah finally" Bash said leaning back. "what do you have planned?" Gilbert looked up at Bash. "we're gonna have a picnic and watch the sunset" his eyes were sparkling causing Bash to chuckle. "fancy" Gilbert suddenly froze. "I need to change" he said running into his bedroom. "Blythe calm down!" Bash said laughing. "how can I calm down when I'm going on a date with the most beautiful girl in... well... the world!" Gilbert was now taking all his shirts out of his closet. "Blythe... if she wants to go on a date with you she's already interested, you don't need to freak out" Bash said patting Gilbert's shoulder. "she only said yes so I would stop staring at her in class" Gilbert said while he tried to calm down. "I'm sure that's not true" Bash said as Gilbert tried on a few shirts. "you should hurry you don't wanna be late" Gilbert's eyes widened. "what time is it" his eyes shot up to the clock. "I gotta go, he ran into the kitchen grabbed the basket and stuffed it with food before running out of the house."Good luck Blythe!" Bash yelled after him.
You were walking towards the hill trying to calm yourself down.
why am I so nervous it's only a picnic
you laid down the blanket and waited for Gilbert. he came running towards you with a basket and a smile. "hey" he said sitting down next to you. "I brought food" he put the basket down in front of you. you guys talked for hours and you could slowly feel yourself fall deeper in love with him with every single word. it was terrifying.
the sun was starting to set and you stared into the distance. Gilbert shuffled a little closer to you. he put and arm around you and pulled you closer. your heart started beating faster. you looked at him and he was staring at your lips. his face came closer while staring intensely. you started to panic. "the sunset is beautiful isn't it?" you asked staring back into the distance. Gilbert's arm loosend a bit as he looked down. "Y/n would you please give me a chance?" he asked taking your hand. "a chance to what?" you asked with a small frown. he was staring at your lips again. his eyes were sparkling. "to show you how much I love you" he leaned closer again causing your heart to beat faster as you stared at his lips. his face was now inches away from you and you could feel his warm breath on your face. you nodded. he gently cupped your face and pressed his lips on yours sending butterflies into your body. you ran your fingers through his hair while Gilbert pulled you closer. you were now on top of him and his hand was on your waist. you slowly pulled away and smiled. Gilbert's eyes were sparkling brighter than ever and he had a huge grin on his face. you buried your head into his chest. he pressed a kiss onto your hair and you wrapped your arms around him softly whispering. "I love you"

Confident Confessions
Gilbert Blythe x Reader (female)
Tumblr media
A/N- This was requested by @spacemochi-x a few months ago and I have just been so busy with university and moving that all my requests were left behind. I’m sorry but the newest season has given me lots of inspiration.
Word Count- 2637 words
Warning- Angst and Fluff!
Request- I was wondering if I could make a Gilbert Blythe request where the reader is Anne's and Diana's friend and has major feelings for Gilbert but is too shy to tell him. She was telling Diana and Anne about them and got slightly carried away and started fangirling but when she saw the look on Anne's and Diana's faces she stops and realized that Gilbert was standing behind her and totally freaks out. He tries to talk to her later but she keeps avoiding him until he's had enough and shows up at her doorstep and forces her to confess and then he kisses her because he sees how shy and worried it is?
Love. Anne described love in words that Y/N wished she could. The young girl was a lot shyer than her friends and peers. Even though she had moved to the small town over a year before, Y/N was still very reserved. She was quickly taken under Anne and Diana’s wing. Silently following their adventures of story-telling and slight bouts of mischief. Y/N talked when necessary in front of her classmates and peers, but it seemed that when Gilbert Blythe was ever close, she became even more quieter than usual.
The young teens were scattered across the classroom; conversing in pairs and groups as they all enjoyed their lunches. It was a wet and dreary day in Avonlea; but that didn’t stop the laughter and joy that radiated from the young boys and girls.
As they all conversed, Y/N sat silently to the side of Anne. Her nose deeply buried in the book she held. Her eyes flying across the pages as she could not help but let a small smile grace her lips as she read the story that blossomed on the pages.
“His eyes have not left you for an awfully long time.”
Y/N lifted her head to look at Anne. The red-haired girl and the brunette were already staring back at Y/N; waiting for a response.
“Excuse me?”
Diana let out a small chuckle.
“Anne and I have noticed that Gilbert has done nothing but stare at you the majority of the lunch hour.”
The girls made sure to keep their words quiet.
“Oh Y/N. He’s been staring at you whilst you read. He looks at you as though you are the only source of light in the room. It’s quite romantic.”
Y/N was alarmed at Anne’s words. Her friends were unaware of her feelings for Gilbert. They hadn’t found out. Had they?
Ever so slowly Y/N turned her gaze back to her book. Only this time she could not help but to glance towards the direction of the boy that held her heart in his hands.
True to Anne and Diana’s words, there Gilbert sat, staring at Y/N in a way she had only seen once before. Gilbert looked at her the same way her grandparents looked at one another before they both sadly passed. With complete and utter euphoria.
Gilbert quickly noticed that he had been caught staring. Never one to back away or become shy, he ever so slightly raised his hand; sending the girl a small wave.
A squeak emitted from Y/N’s throat as she hurriedly shoved her face back in her book.
Before any more could be said or done, Miss Stacy re-entered the room to continue the day’s lessons. Halting any further questions or looks from Y/N’s friends. However, it could not stop the sneaking glances that Gilbert sent Y/N, as the girl herself tried her hardest not to look over at her dashing classmate.
“There’s nothing wrong with just admitting you like him Y/N. I have never seen Gilbert act that way with anyone else before.”
The school day had passed, and the three young girls were walking slowly home through the woodland area that graced the path between their homes.
“I do not like Gilbert Blythe.”
There was no belief behind her words. It was obvious to all that how Y/N felt for Gilbert was different to the other boys in Avonlea. She was indeed quiet- but could hold a conversation when needed. However, when that conversation included Gilbert, that was not the case. She would shy away, fidget her hands, and stutter her words; to the enjoyment of Josie-Pye and Billy who teased the girl of her actions.
Anne halted her steps, causing Diana and Y/N to do so as well. Placing her hands onto Y/N’s shoulders, Anne held her friend in a strong but loving grip.
“Y/N. You cannot run away from every twist and turn in the road that is life. Telling Gilbert how you feel can bring you fulfilment and a level of joy and splendour you have never experience before.”
Y/N’s head bowed to the ground. Fidgeting with her hands as her nerves began to increase.
“But what if I lose him?”
Diana and Anne couldn’t help but feel for their friend. The pair quickly moving to hold her in a comforting embrace.
“You could never lose Gilbert Y/N. Anne’s right. You don’t see the way he looks at you but everyone else does; even Ruby. Haven’t you notice she has ceased her advancements on Gilbert?”
Y/N shook her head.
“All of us can see what you two have. All of us except you. You refuse to see.”
Frustration filled Y/N’s body. Pulling away from her friends embrace, she moved to face them. Her back facing the direction of which they just travelled from. With her arms twisted across her torso, Y/N huffed at the sky; cursing whatever god or being had made her feel such a way.
“I do not refuse to see; I refuse to acknowledge. Other than you two, my dearest friends, and my grandparents, the only other person I have felt true comfort and acceptance from is Gilbert. My own mother and father couldn’t accept me for my shy nature. I like being quiet. Gilbert doesn’t force me to talk. He doesn’t pressure me to participate if I wish not to. But he always makes sure I know that he cares.”
She became more and more frustrated. Pacing back and forth along the path, Y/N’s voice rose in agitation.
“When my grandparents fell ill, I began to do poorly at school. Gilbert noticed. He tutored me every other day for weeks until they got better I caught up with you Anne. I never thought I’d be able to keep up with you in school, but Gilbert helped me do so. We spoke about his father and my grandparents. About life, Avonlea, our friends. And when life gets too loud, I know I can walk the short walk to Gilbert’s, and he is there. That we can sit in silence and I don’t have to say anything because he knows. He knows how grateful I am for him to be my friend. I cannot lose that. So, can we please drop the subject matter?”
Y/N ceased pacing and looked at her friends. Confusion instantly replacing her frustration as she stared at Anne and Diana’s shocked expressions. Quickly noticing their gazes were directed behind her, Y/N turned around.
“Gilbert?!”
It was Y/N’s turned to be shocked as the boy she was just fawning over slowly walked towards her. Before Gilbert could get any closer to the girl, Y/N picked up her skirt and bolted in the direction of her home. Leaving behind her belongings, her friends, and Gilbert. Their calls for her to return slowly fading into white noise as she focused on running home.
Gilbert came to a halt between Anne and Diana.
“Did you hear all of that?”
Gilbert looked towards Anne.
“Yes, I did.”
In perfect sync, Gilbert received a whack on both arms from the girls either side of him.
“Then why aren’t you running after her?”
Gilbert huffed at their words. He knew that if he ran after her that she would panic even more.
“If I go now, she will over analyse and think I followed her out of pity. If no one has heard from her by supper, then I shall discuss the matter at hand with her.”
And with his words Gilbert left Anne and Diana alone. The two girls watching as he briskly walked home.
“I so do hope Y/N does not overthink and she allows herself to fall into these feelings she feels.”
Anne linked her arms with Diana as they two began to walk home.
“So, do I Diana. So, do I.”
As Gilbert assumed, no one had heard of Y/N all day. She had failed to arrive for her story writing with Anne and the other girls. She had also falsely told her mother that she was feeling unwell and would therefore be skipping tea. The young woman sat in her room, perched on her windowsill, as she read the book in her hand. Her grandparents leaving to attend the monthly town meeting. The only person left in the house was herself.
A knock at the door startled Y/N from her reading. Slipping on her housecoat and footwear, she grabbed the candle that sat perched on her desk. Carefully walking down, the steps, she peered through the window of her living room.
Y/N huffed out a breath of annoyance. Moving towards the door, she slowly opened the wooden structure, peering through the small crack she had allowed.
“Good evening Gilbert.”
Gilbert lifted his head at the sound of her voice. A small smile gracing his face.
“Good evening Y/N. Would it be a bother if I were to enter?”
Y/N didn’t necessarily want Gilbert to enter at that moment. Not after what he had overheard earlier that day. But her grandmother and grandfather would roll in their graves if she did not allow the boy to enter. It had started to rain heavily, and Gilbert was already soaking wet.
Without a word Y/N opened the door most the way; giving Gilbert room to enter. Once the young man had done so, Y/N began to take off his coat and hat. Gilbert did not argue against her actions as he knew his attempts would be futile. In awkward silence, Y/N gathered Gilberts wet outerwear and moved to hang them by the fire to dry. As she went to collect a blanket to help warm her classmate, Gilbert removed his shoes, not wanting to get the Y/L/N residence covered in mud and water.
Y/N gestured for Gilbert to sit by the fire as she placed the blanket in his hands; not a single word being uttered from her lips.
Gilbert politely thanked the young woman. Watching her take her own seat by the fire; catching onto the fact that she purposefully sat in the furthest seat away from him.
The silence continued, and continued, and continued, until Gilbert could take no more.
“About what I overheard earlier this afternoon, I-“
“I wish not to talk about it, Gilbert.”
Gilbert closed his mouth at her words. He could tell Y/N felt extremely uncomfortable speaking about the subject. The young woman sat in an unlady like manner: her arms folded across her chest, her feet tucked under her knees, and her gaze refused to look anywhere near Gilbert’s direction. Gilbert did not wish to make Y/N upset, but he knew that if the matter wasn’t addressed then she would not speak to him for a very long time; maybe never again.
Wrapping the blanket tightly around himself, Gilbert stood from his seat. Walking towards Y/N’s direction, Gilbert grabbed the footstool and placed it by Y/N’s side. The young woman tensed up. Placing himself down on the seat, Gilbert took his time; not wanting to overwhelm her.
“What you were saying earlier-“
“You weren’t meant to over hear that Gilbert.”
Gilbert felt the guilt creep up through his veins and the tears that gathered in the corners of Y/N’s eyes.
“If I knew you was standing there, I would not have said what I did.”
Gilbert cleared his throat. Straightening his back, he sat up straight, determination knocking down the guilt.
“Why?”
Tears gathered in the corners of Y/N’s eyes. She mustered up the courage to look Gilbert in the eyes. She could see his worry and guilt. He need not worry. It wasn’t him that made her cry.
“Me saying what I said out loud made it real. It confirmed how I have always felt for you Gilbert. I was afraid for you to know and I still am deathly afraid. That conversation I had with you those mere months ago confirmed that how much you mean to me Gilbert and I would never want to lose that.”
Gilbert couldn’t help the adoring smile on his face. Even though he had heard all that she had said earlier on that day, hearing her say it to him as she stared into his eyes meant the most.
“I love you.”
Shock was evident on the young girls features. Her mouth agape as Gilbert raised from his seat and crouched in front of her. Slowly but surely, Gilbert moved his hand to hold Y/N’s own. His fingers slowly caressing hers. They both felt the butterflies swarm their stomachs and rouge paint their cheeks.
“You, Y/F/N Y/L/N, besotted me the moment I saw you walk through Charlottetown. I was grabbing supplies for Bash when you walked past the window. I was so enamoured that my money slipped from my hands and fell across the floor.”
Y/N grasped Gilbert’s hand; laughing in disbelief.
“You saw me before I started school. I had just moved here when I visited Charlottetown.”
“I thought I had seen a ghost when you walked in that first day. Slowly but surely, as the days moved on, I fell in love. I love you Y/N. Whether you or not you say-“
“I love you too.”
Neither could hide their gigantic grins spreading across their faces. Gilbert did not want her to feel pressured but she had said the words so loud and so confident, he knew the choice was her own.
The excitement and joy flowed through Y/N’s veins, causing the girl to leap from her seat and into Gilbert’s arm’s knocking the boy to the floor. They held each other in a tight embrace as they both fell into a fit of laughter. Joy and love bathed around them.
Ultimately, the laughter ceased, as they stayed entwined together on the floor. Y/N’s face above Gilbert’s as she slowly moved it closer and closer to his own until-
The lock on the front door started to turn. Both Y/N and Gilbert sprang to their feet. Taking seats on opposite chairs.
“Y/N dear, we’re home-“
As Y/N’s grandparents walked into the room, they were surprised to see Gilbert sat across from the young girl. Neither adults missing the blushes and frazzled looks on the two young adult’s faces.
“Oh, hello Gilbert, what a lovely surprise. What brings you here so late?”
Y/N shot up, pulling Gilbert up as well.
“He was just about to leave Nana. He came to inform me what I had missed at study this afternoon. He hasn’t been here long.”
Gilbert stayed silent during the exchange.
Y/N’s grandparents smirked at one another.
“Well okay then. Thank you very much Gilbert. Y/N’s grandfather will see you out. Y/N may I have a word please.”
Gilbert quietly said his farewells to both Y/N and her grandmother. As Y/N’s grandmother lead her to the kitchen, her grandfather walked Gilbert out the door, shutting it behind the pair.
Gilbert turned to say farewell to the older gentlemen.
“Gilbert?”
“Yes, sir?”
Y/N’s grandfather smiled at the polite young man.
“I’m saying it now, but you’ve always had it. You have our blessing. We trust you to keep treating her well and loving her as you have.”
Gilbert smiled once more. Shaking his head in disbelief.
“Thank you sir. I promise you I will.”
Y/N’s grandfather smiled back at the boy.
“I’m sure you will. Now get home before you freeze to death. See you in the morning.”
And as the elder man walked back into his home and Gilbert walked the path to his own, Y/N sat in her kitchen with her grandmother watching from the window.
“You finally told him?”
Y/N turned her gaze from Gilbert and towards her grandmother.
“Yeah.”
Y/N’s grandmother held the girl tightly in her arms; placing a kiss onto her head.
“I am proud of you.”
Y/N’s mouth quirked up at the sides.
“I’m proud of me too.”

Warnings: Bullying, fluff,
Summary: Gilbert finds himself smitten with the artistic girl in the back of the class. He figures it must run in the family.
masterlist
The walk from the Mackenzie farm to school was typically a peaceful one, during which (y/n) and her brother would stroll along and discuss their latest works of art. Cole Mackenzie was her older brother and all her life she’d looked up to him. Between his kind spirit and artistic skill, she always wanted to be like him. But to Cole, he always wished to be more like his little sister; just as skilled but more innocent. And even though her talent was more openly received by their parents because (y/n) was a girl and an attraction to the arts could one day bring along a suitor, Cole felt no envy for her, just pride. She meant the world to him and was just happy to watch her art flourish.
It wasn’t entirely uncommon for their walk towards school to get interrupted by Billy Andrews and his small gang of goons. So when he walked across their line of sight and called to them, the siblings didn’t think much of it. “Hey! Mackenzie!” He said as he sauntered over to them with a cruel grin, his gaze fixed directly at Cole. “I was wondering when you two would show up.”
Cole only grunted lowly in response as he moved slightly closer to his sister. Billy chose to ignore the small movement as his eyes flickered to the paper in his hands, “What’s this? He asked, leaning down at him. His hand reached for the paper, catching Cole off guard as Billy took it from him, eyeing it curiously. On the paper was a beautifully drawn rose. Every curve was precise and it looked almost as if it was a picture. With a scoff Billy showed it to his friends. He moved both his hands to the top of the paper, leaving a small gap in between before looking directly into (y/n)’s eyes with a cruel smirk. The sound of the delicate paper ripping made her flinch. She’d stayed up nearly all night in an attempt to perfect the flower and now it was shredded in two. Billy didn’t stop there as he doubled the paper over, continuing to rip it apart. By the time he finished, it was nothing more than small bits of confetti sprinkled in the mud.
(y/n) stared at the ground where bits of her art was left. Ruined by Billy. Cole grabbed her arm lightly and tugged her along towards the school. He wished he could’ve fought back but he would’ve been outnumbered. There was nothing he could do. He felt useless as he held onto his little sister, he wasn’t able to protect her when she needed it.
(y/n) sat at her desk in the back of the class, carefully shading in her latest drawing. It was of the creek than ran through Avonlea. She defined the small ripples in the water as it ran down stream and to the edge of the page. As she continued to work she became focused on her art, closing out everything around her. (y/n) was always careful not to get caught. In the past she’d seen Cole get shamed for his artwork and was determined to keep her hobby off Mr. Phillips radar.
Gilbert watched her with awe. Even though he couldn’t see what she was working on, he knew the end result would be magnificent. It was clear she had talent, possibly more than her brother who always showed up to class with clay under his nails. He continued to watch her as she stilled for a moment, stopping to admire her own work with a soft smile on her face. The sound of the teacher clearing his throat obnoxiously caught her attention as he continued to blab on about a subject that no one understood - or even cared about. Gilbert continued to take small glances at her whenever he got a chance. It had become a common thing over the past few weeks and often found himself turning to look at her subsciously. Unfortunately, that’s what got him caught.
When his eyes connected with (y/n) from across the small schoolhouse for a moment he couldn’t look away. Even from a distance he could clearly see how the light reflected off her pupils and lit them up. No matter what situation (y/n) was in, he always thought she looked beautiful. But as he regained his wits he was reminded that it isn’t considered cute to stare directly at a pretty girl so begrudgingly he turned away, looking back down at his desk.
As lunch arrived Gilbert was immediately swarmed by the other boys in the class. All of them scrambling to speak with him, each of them wanting to earn his attention. From the corner of his eye Gilbert spotted (y/n), still sitting in the back corner as she smiled at her brother and continued moving the pencil gracefully over the paper.
His gaze returned to the boys around him as Billy shoved his way to the front with a scoff. “You lookin at her, Blythe?” He questioned with a sneer. Gilbert tried his best to ignore the rude boy but he continued on, pestering him until he got an answer. Billy looked at two of his friends standing behind him, nuding them lightly with his elbow. “Guess Gilbert here wants to date a Mackenzie family reject. Huh, Bud?”
“I thought we went over this Billy, I’m not your bud.” Gilbert said, standing up from his chair, matching Billy’s height as they stared each other down. Billy was the first to cave, lifting his hands up in mock surrender. “Fine, fine” He said pausing a moment before a smirk coated his features “Bud.”
Gilbert was the first the move, lunging for Billy as he grabbed onto his shirt. Pulling him close, Gilbert got in his face speaking slowly and clearly so everyone got the message, not just him. “I am not, was not, and will never be your bud. Next time you speak, you speak with respect or else next time it’ll be my fist. Not just my words.” Gilbert glanced around the room for a second, everyone was watching. Even (y/n) had stopped drawing for a moment to watch it unravel. “Now, apologize to her.”
“W-What?” Billy asked, unsure of what Gilbert wanted as he was held up by his sweater.
    “Apologize to (y/n).”
Billy moved his head to the side to look at her. When his eyes met hers it was clear he was afraid and when the words left his lips she revelved in the sound. It was like music to her ears. “I’m s-sorry (y/n). For everything I swear it.” She nodded at him, acknowledging his apologie as Gilbert let him go. The pair clearly satisfied with how it ended. As (y/n) went back to her art she couldn’t help but peak back at Gilbert, a small smile on her face as she watched him ruffle his hair with his hand. A faint blush coating his cheeks as he talked to his friends.
School had finally ended, and resulted to be far more eventful than usual as everyone packed up their things in preparation to go home. Cole walked over to her with a ball of clay in one hand and his hat in the other, rushing her so he could run off with Anne and Diana to sculpt. (y/n) grabbed her bag and coat, leaving with her brother.
Gilbert watched her walk out the door as he slung his bag over his shoulder. Walking to the door he spotted a paper face down on the ground by her desk. Curious, he flipped it over and was immediately awestruck. In all honesty he’d never seen her work up close like this, always from a distance. He knew she was talented but the art in his hands blew him away. Gilbert recognized the exact spot that she modeled the drawing after. Every fine detail outlined perfectly. Heading for the door himself he took off towards his next destination.
(y/n) walked through the creeks as the cool water rushed past her ankles. She focused on the sounds and feelings as she got out of the creek, sitting down on a nearby log and reaching for her supplies. Almost every day Cole would walk her there because it’s where she got all her inspiration. The stream brought out the best in her. If she focused on her surroundings she could bring almost anything to life on paper.
Picking up a pencil she began to outline the trees around her, recreating the scene she was sitting in. As she continued to draw the pencil seemed to grow a mind of its own. Despite her original plans for the piece she began outlining a delicate figure standing in the center. Dark curls and a heavy sweater made her head race. It was clear where her art had gone, her inspiration and her muse clashing together in a mix of lead and lines.
She softly blew on the paper when she was done, getting rid of the excess lead. The drawing looked more like a photograph with film than a paper and pencil. She beamed down at the drawing as she admired her work. (y/n) considered herself to be a fairly humble person but when she looked down at her work she knew she’d outdone herself.
  It looked stunning.
Her marveling was cut short by a voice from behind her. “Is that me?”
(y/n) bit back a scream as he caught her by surprise. She pulled the paper close to her body, shielding it from his view. Completely off guard she struggled to find her words. “I, uh. G-Gilbert what are you doing out here?”
He smiled at her. “Answering a question with a question, smart.” The black haired boy pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, “Actually, I was looking for you. Thought maybe you should have this back.” When he handed the page back she immediately recognized it as her own. She never even noticed she’d lost it to begin with.”
“Thank you.” She said, looking up at him. “For everything you did today. I mean it, you were amazing.” Gilbert shrugged at her comment shly scratching his back. She had no idea the effect she had over him, Gilbert found himself a flustered mess around her. None the less he managed to pull off the calm and cute facade and the girl in front of him was none the wiser.
“It was no big deal. Besides, someone has to put Billy in his place everyone one in a while.” She bobbed her head in response, slowly loosening her grip on the paper.
“So,” Gilbert began. “Is that me? Either way it looks amazing.”
She looked down in shame, a soft “Yes.” coming from her lips. He couldn’t help the smile that crept on his face at her answer. It made his heart skip a beat as she slowly revealed it to him.
     “I love it.”
(y/n) looked up from the ground with wide eyes. “You really think so?”
“Are you kidding me? Your art never fails to amaze me, you never fail to amaze me. You’re absolutely brilliant, (y/n). Just to add to that, you’re also ridiculously beautiful and talented.” Gilbert began to speak animatedly about how much he adored her - and of course, her art. While (y/n) was good with art, he excelled in words and it showed as happy tears began to fill her eyes.
She’d never received praise like that before. Cole had always been more critical of his own art, and it often carried over to hers but he was always supportive. But to hear someone talk about her art with admiration in their eyes was a completely different experience. With a surge of emotion (y/n) bolted forward into Gilberts arms. He tensed for a moment, shocked at her reaction at first but shortly relaxed as he wrapped his arms around her.
“I think I like more than just your art.” He whispered calmly, his heart racing with anticipation until he thought it would burst.
    “Oh, yeah?”
“Yeah, and I’ll ask Cole’s permission if I have too.” Gilbert couldn’t stop the smile from growing on his face as he heard her giggle at his joke.
“I don’t think that’ll be necessary.” She said, slowly distancing herself from him. She wished she hadn’t, immediately missing the feeling of his arms around her.
  “Good. He scares me.”
With another laugh she pushed him away lightly, not getting very far as he caught her wrist and pulled her back into him. They never wanted to let go, and they supposed they didn’t have to - at least until Cole came back to walk her home.
