chapter four: sweet on the inside & outside
-- a ghostly love masterlist
The next day, we all sat in our usual circle in the gymnasium. Mr. Martin was talking to all of us as we passed the donut box around.
“There’s an old cider mill off Route 47, and my parents would toss us in the Dodge Coronet. We’d each get a bag of warm, greasy donuts. That was my idea of nirvana.” Mr. Martin says, thinking back to his memories as a kid.
I grabbed a glazed donut from the box before handing it to Wally who took it, making sure that he grazed his fingers over mine as he did so. He got a jelly donut out of the box and handed the box over to Rhonda.
“What’s that about?” She asks. He looked at her confused. “You always leave me the worst one.” Rhonda complains. I bring my hand up to my neck and rub the side of it. I don’t know why but she has gotten on my nerves ever since I met her.
“What do you mean? It’s lemon glazed.” Wally tells her.
“Nobody wants a lemon donut.” Rhonda remarks.
I mean she was right about that.
“Guys, the subject is nirvana.” Mr. Martin says.
“No, the subject is entitlement.” Rhonda retorts.
“Oh, okay. I’m entitled because I like anything filled with jelly.” Wally sighs. “It’s not my fault I like things with sweet stuff inside of it.” Wally then adds, looking over at me and giving me a wink.
“Oh my god.” I say, shocked at his constant boldness, especially in front of the others.
“Ew. Just ew.” Rhonda says. “I don’t even want that anymore. That’s gross.” She says.
“Guys, the subject is nirvana.” Mr. Martin repeats.
“Excuse me, can I be excused? I just want to eat my donut in peace.” Wally says.
“More entitlement.” Rhonda puts her hand up in disbelief.
“It’s not entitlement, Rhonda. Okay? It’s about- it’s about digestion.” Wally tells her.
I can’t hold back my laugh. Wally looks over to me and smiles after hearing my laugh.
“Oh, Lucia. I’ve just been reminded. I have a homework assignment for you.” Mr. Martin tells me.
I blink a few times, “Homework?” I ask.
“Well, kind of. I want you to write your obituary. Everyone here has done it already.” He says.
“I…” I trail off. I sigh. “Okay.” I shrug. I didn’t have the energy to complain right now.
There’s a sudden weird sound and I looked over to see Wally slurping the jelly out of the donut. “Oh, my god.” He says. enjoying the jelly.
“Um… I’ll just.. start that now actually.” I say.
“Yeah.” Mr. Martin says, agreeing with me.
<3
I then spent the next day writing my obituary. Even if the last few months, or well, years of my life hadn’t been that great, there were some core memories that I had. I guess writing it out was nice. I found Mr. Martin in the hallway after I’d finished so that I could give it to him. “Mr. Martin.” I say and he looks over. “I finished my obituary.” I told him.
“Wow, thank you.” He says as he takes the papers from me.
“You’re welcome.” I softly say.
“How did it feel? Writing all of that out.” Mr. Martin asked.
“It felt… nice.” I admit.
“Good.” He smiles.
There’s a few moments of awkward silence. “Well… see you.” I say and he just nods before I turn around and walk away.
<3
I sit on the bleachers in the pool room with Charley as Rhonda sits on the edge of the pool and Wally sits in a float in the water, wearing only some swim trunks and sunglasses. Charley was applying some of Rhonda’s sunscreen to his arms. Why? I don’t know, there was really no point. But, you do you, I guess.
“Uh, easy with the coppertone, hun.” Rhonda comments.
“Yeah, that bottle’s got to last her another 60 years.” Wally says.
I watch as she kicks her foot in the water, splashing some water at him, “Don’t be a cube.” She says.
I giggle at what she’d said. Yeah, she was definitely from the ‘60s. She looks over at me with a scowl on her face.
“I- I’m sorry.” I say, not really meaning it. “It’s just.. nothing. It’s nothing.” I say.
“You are such a bug.” She says.
I twirl a part of my hair with my finger, “Alright.” I dismissively say.
“I love this smell.” Charley says, rather loudly, trying to get us to stop. “Coconut, verbena. You can be anywhere; Miami, Aruba.” He tells us. “I miss a good sunburn.” He says.
“I miss pussy.” Wally says and everyone looks over at him. “What? I thought we were talking about stuff that we missed.” He tells us.
I cover my face with my hands. I can’t.
<3
“So, how have you been adjusting to the life of the undead?” Wally asks as we sit on the bleachers. It was nighttime and so it was quite pretty with all the stars and all.
“The life of the undead?” I ask, giggling at the way he phrased it. Wally smiled after hearing me laugh. “Um, yeah. It’s… actually not been that bad. I think it’s actually better than things were when I was alive.” I say.
“Really?” He asks and I nod. “Why? Cause I’m here now?” Wally asks, smirking at me.
“No.” I partially lied. I mean, honestly, I wouldn’t admit it to him just yet, but… I was glad that I met him, even if we were ghosts and even if he was constantly making inappropriate jokes.
“I’ll change your mind, don’t worry.” He says.
“Oh, really? And how exactly are you going to do that?” I ask.
He looks down at my lap before looking into my eyes again, “Well, I have a couple of ideas.” He teases.
I gently push his chest, “You’re a little too bold.” I say.
“Nothing wrong with that.” Wally shrugs.
“When it comes to you.. there is.” I tease back.
“I can’t help it when you look like that in your uniform.” Wally tells me.
“So, if I wasn’t wearing this then you wouldn’t be like this?” I ask.
“Nah, you’d be fine either way.” Wally says.
Was it so wrong that even if his boldness was a lot, that I liked it?

A very short analysis of all* the dads and daddy issues on lost
*Considering every character that was a main character
Tumblr media
Daniel
Charles widmore- complete sociopath in many ways, only met Daniel when he was an adult to manipulate him into going to the island on which he would be killed by his mother which Charles witnessed
Boone
Split up with his mother at some point, was clearly left with a nanny frequently enough to kill her, definitely has unresolved issues with his dead stepfather as he fell in love with the stepsister
Miles,
Very obvious dad issues from being raised without him present. Did get to meet him but he was a bit of a dick tbh. I guess he did love him but too little too late
Michael
Little known about his dad but only his mum was looking after Walt off island. His role as a dad could be interpreted as daddy issues
Ana Lucia
Deffo has mommy issues but the lack of clear father figure points to possible daddy issues as does her time with Christian
Charlotte
Goes to shithole island to try to discover her father who was never there. Clearly has daddy issues regardless of her fathers (unknown) quality.
Frank
Has issues but there’s every chance they are NOT daddy issues. Good for him
Shannon
He’s dead and his widow is a terrible stepmother. Daddy issues up to here-may have contributed to her sleeping with her brother
Desmond
He had to raise his siblings so this points again to an absent (at the very least emotionally) father. Daddy issues
Eko
Had to raise his brother suggesting a largely absent father who wasn’t around much
Kate
Blew up her real father due to his general terribleness, her stepfather was in the army so probably has issues over him not being around all that much even though he seems like an alright guy
Jack
Jacks daddy issues regarding Christian are basically a main plot point of the show and even made it into the finale. Points to Christian for feeding into a lot of the characters daddy issues
Sawyer
Dear Mr Sawyer… probably the nastiest daddy issues, doesn’t really get much worse than murder suicide with your kid under the bed. All of sawyers bad bits are due to his daddy issues. Also has daddy issue ties to Christian and Anthony
Locke
Attempted murder was a pretty bad look from Anthony as was the kidney theft. Anthony traveled across the world giving kids daddy issues left right and centre, despite only Locke being shown as his biological kid
Ben
Skeletor was not a great dad and is a key reason captain bunny killer is so messed up. Also bens habit of adopting children (Ethan, Alex) is likely linked to his own crappy upbringing
Sayid
His dad the war hero gave him some toxic masculinity problems, sayid not killing a chicken is our only main clue but it was pretty dark
Libby
Like everything involving Libby’s past, her parents are a big mystery. She does have dead husband issues?
Sun
Mr Paik for sure messed Sun up. His treatment of Jin and his general murdery tendency affected sun not only as a child but also screwed up her marriage
Jin
Jins dad is the nicest guy on the list, but jin had intense daddy issues due to his shame and being raised by a single father.
Claire
Christian really putting it out of the park here! Being the result of an affair involving an American doctor cannot have been fun and his absence in her life probably didn’t help with her wanting to give Aaron up. Also may have contributed to her not trusting Charlie that much
Hurley
David Reyes is an asshole, but he’s a pretty run of the mill, leave my family and don’t come back til there’s money, but he made the most effort to fix things. Hugo has big daddy issues tho
Juliet
Pretty standard daddy issues but her parents divorce clearly stayed with her and led her into some pretty unhealthy relationships later on in life
Charlie
Charlie’s dad seems like quite a nice guy if I’m honest but his older brother messed him up enough I’m happy to say Charlie has something very close emotionally to daddy issues
Richard
Too much of an enigma for a strong analysis but imma go out on a limb and say yes
Bernard
I don’t think so?
Rose
She seems pretty well adjusted so I think no
Vincent
Everyone on the island has been his dad at some point- probably missed Walt his original dad a lot

im in a Mood™ so adamandi characters as halfbloods
(might draw art for this later but i gotta get my thoughts out first)
so obviously the marmorei are all apollo kids (ambrose is the cabin counselor)
um maybe if sophie redemption arc (this is only for me. im the only person who cares about sophie.) then hunter of artemis, otherwise shes a daughter of aphrodite
beatrix is a child of athena. maybe quincy too.
um vincent would probably be unclaimed ares (or maybe a hades kid?)
portias either an aphrodite or hermes kid
uhh (tries to remember minor characters names)
bertha geiser is a demeter kid
christian mills is a child of athena
idk about drew or roswell or lucia
um i think thats all of them?
(wait wait wait ok so what if ambrose actually wasnt an apollo kid but he really wanted to be. uhh hed be like hermes or something. but maybe he like pretended that he was in the hermes cabin bc he was unclaimed and spread the rumor around till people kinda forgot that he was an actual hermes kid. and then like faked a claiming from apollo and joined cabin 7. is that too insane? maybe. whatever)

maybe we make this our happily ever after
When @yearoftheotpevent gives you the perfect inspiration for your OTP with a single prompt. TTwTT
Fic: "maybe we make this our happily ever after" [FFN] [AO3]
Pairings/Characters: Nick Torres/Ellie Bishop
Rating: T
Words: ~2,310
Additional info: romance, angst, 3rd person POV
Summary: Nick's long wondered—and has always wanted to ask Ellie—if they're the kind of people who deserve a happy ending.
Nick wakes up well ahead of his alarm and drags a hand across his face, ending in pinching the remaining bits of sleep dust from his eyes. He's not jet-lagged in the least—Miami and D.C. are in the same time zone, thankfully—but he's still utterly exhausted, and waking from the semblance of a nightmare the same morning he's due back at headquarters to present his report in person on shuttering that arms ring…well, Nick surely wishes he could turn his alarm off and sleep for another five hours, at least.
Instead, he lies awake and stares at the ceiling of his current dwelling.
It's…all right, he surmises of what he can squint in the early morning darkness. At least the place is clean and not in disrepair, like some of the places he's slept on certain assignments these last few years. Still—
It's not home. It's not the previous apartment he had, where he last risked setting roots, back when he'd been part of a team, part of something more.
…and, frowning at that thought, Nick huffs and sits up. He gropes for his phone on the nightstand to his right and turns off the alarm with a yawn. Director Vance isn't expecting him until later this morning, so Nick can waste a few hours as he pleases.
He pulls a few ingredients from the small fridge and quickly showers before whipping up an egg-heavy but filling breakfast. It's not Lucia's cooking, but it's safer for his big sister if she doesn't know about all these different Airbnbs with him back at it, even though Nick misses her dropping by to fill his fridge when he's not home.
This particular rental has a medium-sized, flat screen TV, so Nick turns on the news at a low volume after he finishes cleaning up in the kitchen. He stretches slowly, legs and arms, and pays half attention to the local and national headlines scrolling along. The news items never catch his interest, though, not when he knows they'll never contain information on one specific person.
Nick grimaces, thinking over how short the Miami op had been. That hadn't been fruitful—just a run-of-the-mill undercover assignment. And some jobs (most jobs) are like that, and he returned to undercover work expecting as much. But sometimes…sometimes, a case takes him places and he heard things. Be it this coast or the west, south of the border and accidentally crossing paths with his father, north of the border and on his own, back at the Pearl Harbor office to assist Tennant's team with a particular sloppy mission, or even in the northwest and close enough to meet a familiar pair of blue eyes from afar and exchange a reassuring nod before Nick brought in a fugitive from Alaska…he always heard things.
      Snippets of a golden ghost.
      Mumblings of a blond assassin.
      Occasionally, a "fair-haired fixer."
They're vague rumors, and Nick never came close to discerning the credibility of the rumors at the time…but he knows he's got time on his side. After all, returning to undercover work is only partly because it's his area of expertise. The other half is because he's long desired the freedom to chase down leads on her.
He's daydreamed a million times over what he'd say, should they ever meet again—but he knows he at least wants to redo that parting, someway, somehow. And if seeing her again isn't in her handler's plans…
Nick shudders. It must've been a nightmare of earning Odette's ire, since he's got the two of them on his brain.
He dresses and goes for a light jog, familiarizing himself with the neighborhood and shaking off the eerie vibes Ziva's old compatriot gives him at the same time. It helps him kill time, too, and Nick takes a second brief shower before dressing for the day and leaving for NCIS.
The drive to the Navy Yard is average for this time of morning, right before the morning rush starts to spill into the streets. When Nick does arrive, he parks near the entrance of the lot. He needs the long walk to wake him up the rest of the way, and he needs the time to bury his personal stakes under other things so Vance and the others, if they're in, don't pry.
…it's funny, though. Nick returns time and again to headquarters, sometimes after a few weeks, sometimes after months and months on end, and he finds the red brick building an odd mix of home and alien to him. The sensation reminds him of even longer ago, back when he first took a desk job and put undercover work on pause while he adjusted to his new circumstances.
He scratches the back of his head, suddenly unsure about arriving so early. McGee's got kids to delay him and Knight's chronically late these days, but Vance and Parker—they turn up when you least expect them, and he's not sure he's ready for the kind of small talk they might prompt, so Nick veers off his direct path up the lot and heads for the footpath to the right, across the green. He internally heaves a sigh of relief, having bought himself another minute or two, and he stuffs his hands in his jeans' pockets—
—but then he spies a familiar form on the bench ten yards ahead, just ahead of the coffee cart, and he slows his pace to course-correct, all but forgetting his appointment later this morning.
When he's close enough, Nick carefully lowers himself on the opposite end from her. But, the whole time, his lips are parted and his brow is pinched, and he can't pull his eyes away from her.
      From Ellie.
The bench isn't very big (there's space barely enough for a third person between them), but she leans back comfortably on his right side, and…she looks good, all things considered. She's dressed casual, like him, in jeans and her tan leather jacket, and she's got a takeout coffee in her hands and a bag of those shrimp chips Reeves used to buy her half-eaten beside her.
…but she's a little worn, too, Nick realizes. There are a few new lines around her eyes, and her hair—ah, she's sporting bangs again—is lighter in places. Though her left eye…something's off with her left eye, and Nick does his best to stop staring when he understands why: Her left eye is completely cloudy.
      "Hey, Nick," Ellie says.
He responds half a beat late, because—given her eye and the way she faces forward—he wasn't sure she actually realized he'd sat down. "H-Hey."
Ellie smiles against the lid of her coffee as she takes a sip. "Something wrong?"
"I—" Nick lips his lips. "I didn't get enough sleep last night. But now I think I'm not even awake yet, because, if you're here…I have to be dreaming still."
She lowers her drink and grins, a familiar, toothy sight he hasn't seen in nearly ten long years. Ellie shakes her head and brushes a lock of hair behind her ear. "Nope, I'm here. Real and in the flesh." She takes one more sip before twisting around on the bench and tucking her left leg under her right, to face Nick.
This time, face to face, it's more apparent. Ellie's got one opal iris and one deep brown iris, one pupil gone and one visible, and he worries about the story behind this change.
Ellie leans against the back of the bench on her left arm. "By the way, I thought you'd like to know: I'm officially retired."
Nick blinks, his train of thought derailed. "Wait. What?"
"I'm coming in from the cold, Nick. I'm not Ellie Bishop, NCIS Special Agent. And I'm not Eleanor Bishop, disgraced federal agent. I'm just…Ellie." She exhales, slowly, almost a sigh. She's quiet for a moment as she reaches for his nearer arm with her free hand and pushes up the cuff of his thin jacket, tracing over a newer scar that peeks out over his wrist. "I see the same goes for you," she mumbles.
He frowns. He's still a mix of shock and amazement and concern—but Ellie's assessment is at least one thing he knows a thing or two about. "I'm back to doing what I know best," Nick admits with a glance at this scar. He huffs. "Although, is it just me, or are the bad guys stronger and faster these days?" Nick thinks aloud.
"Well, you've been doing this for more than twenty years, Nick. And you took a small hiatus."
He pouts but covers her hand with his, hiding that scar on his arm. "Maybe. Or maybe they just hit harder."
Ellie purses her lips. She sits up a little and leans forward, reaching up to trace the old scar from childhood in his right eyebrow. Then Ellie moves her thumb to just below his eye, along his cheekbone, tracing this mirrored scar from twenty months ago. "Do they?"
Nick tries to muster his cocksure grin for her. "Ah, that? Don't worry about that. I'm still pretty sure that was friendly fire from…ah, well, he'd never admit it, but Sam."
"Hanna? As in, the L.A. office?"
"Yeah. Let's just say he and Callen ended up needing backup with Morocco, part two."
Her brow furrows as she gives him a curious little smile, but Ellie chuckles.
      "What?"
"Ohh, just. That would explain how I lost track of you for a time."
He gapes at her. For all he chased down leads on her—! "You kept tabs on me?"
"Don't look so surprised, Nick. But yeah, Hetty's office… I only got to work with Pride's team a few times, but everything I've ever heard about Hetty—she and Odette are two peas in a pod." She punctuates this with a sage nod of her head.
But the mention of the woman who upended their lives brings to mind his nightmare from this morning, and it also brings Nick's attention back to Ellie's face, to her eye and why she's really back. He turns to face her, too, and brushes her hair back from her face, finding himself frowning once more. "Ellie…you said you're back, for good. But what happened?"
A full minute of silence sits between them. Eventually, Ellie rests against his hand and gives him a fleeting, tight, tired smile. "…work hazard," she mumbles. She clears her throat and speaks more audibly, "Things didn't go right on what became my last mission, so…Odette said I'm out of the game."
Nick furrows his brow while his heart sinks for her, knowing how badly she'd wanted that opportunity from the start. "Really? Just like that?"
"Well, no. Surgery might still help, but a lot of time has passed. The more time that passes, the less successful it'll be."
      "So—"
Ellie shakes her head. "I've adapted pretty well to my new blind spot, Nick. Funny thing is, all I could think was how relieved I was, finally coming home." Then she takes his hand from her face and holds it. She scoots closer and they sit together, quiet, letting the weight of her new reality sink in.
A small part of him still worries that this is just his imagination at its best, that he'll wake up and it'll be a dream for sure. So he tucks Ellie into his side and presses a kiss to her crown…and, for good measure, he tilts her chin up, kissing her lips, too.
(For two heartbeats, he flashes back unhappily to their parting, to their goodbye kiss at Odette's previous home.
But then Nick summons to mind countless nights spent at Ellie's old apartment, of legs tangled with sheets and her pressed against him, of what came after, all his chances to wake her up with a good-morning kiss and getting to look into those big brown eyes of hers, fixed just on him…her world, him, his world, her.)
They pull away, just enough to catch their breaths, and this time the silence doesn't feel so unbearable.
But Nick breaks the silence anyway: "Marry me, Ellie."
He thumbs her chin while she blinks and stares up at him in wide-eyed amazement. "…I thought, at best, we'd start over when I came back, if you wanted to," she replies.
Nick shakes his head. "We went through hell already. We've had our good and our bad and, yeah, there'll be more to learn along the way. But I don't need more time to figure out that I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I've…I've know that for years, Ellie."
She eases into a soft smile. "What about you getting back into undercover work?"
That gives him pause, but he's surprisingly thinking on his feet today. "You said it yourself: I've done it for more than twenty years. I have a nice pension coming my way… Maybe it's time I stop being Nick Torres, NCIS Special Agent. Maybe I get to be just…Nick."
Ellie hums under her breath, but the glint in her brown eye says she likes how he's using her argument.
So he raises his eyebrows at her, as if saying, Do I need to ask again?
But she cups his cheek and traces his newer scar once more with the pad of her thumb. "Marry me, Nick," she says, and she laughs when it takes him a second to piece together that her answer is a proposal, as well—how Ellie Bishop of her.
(But, he thinks when he kisses her anew, to seal the deal—to seal this promise—it's very them, and if this is simply how their fairy tale goes, then he's all right with that, because it's finally real, and they're done letting others stand in their way.)
Done for the If You Dare Challenge (for prompt #39: ten yards) in the HPFC forum on FFN as well as the Year of the OTP (June prompt: proposal) on tumblr. I…do have other Ellick ideas, but this one cropped up recently, mainly bc of that June prompt, so I just dashed off to write this. XD As for what would make Odette give up an asset like Bishop…well, I do wonder if Odette would let her go simply if Bishop said she wanted out, but an injury that could jeopardize their work strikes me as smthg Odette considers retirement-worthy (altho note that corneal blindness is deffo treatable with grafts/transplants…but it's still a difficult surgery and resources are limited even developed nations, so Bishop isn't far off in her remarks). Idk if I want to write the op where Bishop got injured, since this was mainly just part of an Ellick plotbunny, tho. Ahhh, and assorted name drops… -w- Random, but it gives me the warm&fuzzies to think we have very our own multiverse here: Regardless of which you've watched, this is your reminder that all four (soon to be five) NCISes, JAG, the Hawaii 5-0 reboot, and Scorpion are in the same universe, thx to backdoor pilots and xovers. (Also feel free to scream with me if you still love and miss Scorpion and think it deserved better. ;w;) ANYWHO! On to my next NCIS fic~ AH, and final, final note: Bc I couldn't find the best places to squeeze this info into the fic naturally/without disrupting the rhythm, I thought I'd elaborate on the timeline here. This fic presumes Nick being with the Parker-led team for five years, and he's been back in UC work for three after that, so he rly hasn't seen his Ellie for nearly ten. ;w; (He would absolutely be pension-eligible since, when he joined Team Gibbs in s14, Quinn remarked she'd trained him "8yrs ago" at FLETC when he began his NCIS career…so if s14 is his ninth year, then this would be his 21st. :'3)
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave an anon/unsigned review via the FFN link or comment via the AO3 link at the top of the post, especially if you enjoyed this!

Black Sand Shores, CA (No. 2)
In 1886, Bixby partnered with William W. Post and they improved and realigned what became known as the Old Coast Road south to Post's ranch near Sycamore Canyon. At Bixby Creek Canyon, the road was necessarily built 11 miles (18 km) inland to circumvent the deep canyon. The road from Bixby Canyon climbed steep Cerro Hill and crossed the Little Sur River where its two forks diverted. The road entered the Cooper Ranch (formerly Rancho El Sur) and continued south about 7 miles (11 km) south to the Pfeiffer Ranch. In 1920, the 26 mi (42 km) trip from Carmel in a light spring wagon pulled by two horses could be completed in about 11 hours. A lumber wagon pulled by four horses could make the trip in 13 hours. Bixby obtained a patent on April 10, 1889 for 160 acres (65 ha) south of Mill Creek.
In 1891, visitor C. A. Canfield wrote about how a trip on the mail wagon from Monterey to Posts took most of a day, where he remained the night. The next day he rode horseback over the South Coast Road with Thomas B. Slate. They reached Slates Hot Springs at about 5pm. The single-lane road was closed in winter when it became impassable. Due to the steep and narrow road, even during the summer Coast residents would receive supplies via boat from Monterey or San Francisco.  Due to the limited access, settlement was primarily concentrated near the Big Sur River and present-day Lucia, and individual settlements along a 25 miles (40 km) stretch of coast between the two. The northern and southern regions of the coast were isolated from one another.
In 1900, the country improved the road south to the forks of the Little Sur River. Charles Howland, who drove the mail stage between Monterey and Big Sur, built the Idlewild Hotel in about 1900 on the Old Coast Road where it crossed the Little Sur River. The Pfeiffer family's hospitality was enjoyed by friends and strangers alike for years. They finally began charging guests in 1910, naming it Pfeiffer's Ranch Resort. It and the Idlewild Hotel were the earliest places to stay.

WIndy back with a bang! This show never misses or makes us endure dull moments and I love them for that.
I have to remember to keep good faith when it comes to Gus, he’s smarter and more in the know than he lets on and seems to have his own motives that he’s not quite willing to let people in on yet. He’s also the character that knows Tom best since he knew that unless Tom found the body himself he’d never believe it was Mary Collins, and was instantly suspicious of Tom letting the suspect go. The team needs someone who isn’t going to let their distrust of Tom blind them. His dynamic with Hoyt was so good– I’m a sucker for when the lawman and the outlaw team up. I’m also wondering if we’re going to see a new arc for Hoyt with him going legit, I could see Gus and Hoyt running Independence together. Hoyt’s days as a ranch hand didn’t last long and with it his relationship with Lucia is also over, or at least that’s the way it seems. I’m hoping that Lucia now enters her girl boss rancher era.
I’m happy that Kai didn’t run away, I’d miss him. Plus we’ve all seen that Independence is a boring town, it could use his drama 😉
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Abby’s sister or her joining the show so soon (I thought Boston wouldn’t come into play until season 2) but I love her and need her back ASAP. Kate probably feels the same way lol. Those two kissing while Angel Olsen played did more for the gay community than Chaos Machine/Jenneel ever could. I loved the scene where Kate was filling Charlie in on all of the gossip. Didn’t think I’d get my shipping wish fulfilled in the same episode as her introduction! Their spark was there from the moment they met! Kate really is the most charming woman. I’m glad Abby seems to understand her sister a little better now, and hopefully realizes that they’re more alike than Abby thinks (side note, get off your high horse Abby). I’m also curious because it seems that Charlie knew more about Liam than his own wife did.
Calian’s storyline has taken quite the turn! I’m guessing that Calian is going to turn to the town, specifically Abby and co, for an alliance to protect his tribe. The Native gossip mill must be wild, how does this chick know so much about Calian? I know it’s probably just because it’s convenient for the narrative, but I like imagining people gossiping about the handsome Calian.
Did anyone else think that Tom Davidson was going to kiss Abby when they were searching the scene of Liam’s death? It’s funny because I’m always happy that the show doesn’t force romance and I’m a slow burn type of gal, but every episode I also want Tom and Abby to kiss. He’s clearly so into Abby. “You saved me, you’re so smart and determined, you ran the town with Gus while I was gone and I’m totally not jealous, you care and my family doesn’t😍🙈🙊” And this episode he reminded us that he was previously in a mental institute by hanging the guy that stabbed him from the ceiling. My skin crawled when he stabbed that guy in the hand. I was wondering why he let him go, but apparently Davidson sheriff work needs to be done off the books. Abby is growing on me as time goes on. I love the parallel of both her and Tom being artists, and being so conflicted when it comes to him and her morals.
And speaking of conflict, a Tom Davidson doppelgänger! Props to the casting department, they really do look like brothers. I’m surprised Abby is able to admit that she might be wrong about Tom, and I’m excited to see where this takes the case.
All in all, the perfect episode to bring things back. Humor, romance, more mystery and good, old fashion western drama. I missed these characters so much! Can’t believe we only have a few more episodes in the season.
Swoon! I love your reviews! Thank you for continuing to send them in!
Gus has so many layers I feel we've barely scratched the surface! And him and Hoyt? Comedy gold! (Matt was wearing a pretty smart suit in one of the bts photos... maybe he's looking to be on the town council?)
I miss Kai when he's not in the episodes, I can't imagine him being out of town. But I find it interesting that he was so willing to open up to Hoyt when he's been so tight-lipped prior to now. I wonder if Lucia's put in a good word for Hoyt, or if it's just easier thinking he may be talking one criminal to another.
Kate and Charlie!!! Chate? Karlie? "Those two kissing while Angel Olsen played did more for the gay community than Chaos Machine/Jenneel ever could." You're not wrong!
I'm right there with them gossiping about Calian!
I didn't really see a kiss coming, but the chemistry he and Abby have is fantastic. And I did not see Tom's descent into torture coming. Now I'm really curious as to what he was in the asylum for.
Called it when I saw those photos of Tom and Shane for next week. I knew there'd be a way for Tom to be exonerated of killing Liam. (Even if he still might be guilty.)
I'm lucky that I get to rewatch WIndy as I'm typing! Along with everything else being fabulous, Hoyt looks fantastic in blue! (I think that's a Walkerverse constant!)

SAINT OF THE DAY (September 22)
Tumblr media
On September 22, the Catholic Church remembers Saint Thomas of Villanova, a 16th-century Spanish Augustinian monk and archbishop who lived a life of austerity in order to provide for the spiritual and material needs of his people.
Born during 1488 in the Spanish region of Castile, in the town of Villanova de los Infantes, Thomas Garcia was raised to take after the faith and charitable works of his parents Alphonsus and Lucia.
His father, a mill worker, regularly distributed food and provisions to the poor, as did his mother.
Generous and devout from an early age, their son was also intellectually gifted, beginning his studies at the University of Alcala at age 16.
Within ten years, he had become a professor of philosophy at that same university, where he taught for two years before being offered a more prestigious position at the University of Salamanca.
Thomas, however, chose not to continue his academic career.
After his father’s death, he had determined to leave much of his inheritance to the poor and sick rather than retaining it himself.
At age 28, after much deliberation, Thomas embraced a life of chastity, poverty, and religious obedience with his entry into the monastic Order of St. Augustine.
Thomas made his first vows as an Augustinian in 1517 and was ordained a priest in 1518.
He taught theology within his order and became renowned for his eloquent and effective preaching in the churches of Salamanca.
This led to his appointment as a court preacher and adviser to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.
Presented with the prospect of being named an archbishop, Thomas initially declined and instead continued his work within the Order of St. Augustine, during a period that saw its expansion across the sea to Mexico.
In August of 1544, however, he was ordered by his religious superiors to accept his appointment as the Archbishop of Valencia.
Thomas arrived wearing the same well-worn monastic habit that he had worn for several years and would continue wearing for years to come.
Given a donation to decorate his residence, he funnelled the money to a hospital in need of repair.
After his installation, he visited local prisons and ordered changes to be made in response to their inhumane conditions.
While continuing his life of monastic asceticism, the archbishop worked to improve the spiritual lives and living conditions of the faithful.
He gave special attention to the needs of the poor, feeding and sheltering them in his own residence.
During the same period, he worked to promote education, restore religious orthodoxy, and reform the lifestyles of clergy and laypersons.
After 11 years leading the Archdiocese of Valencia, Saint Thomas of Villanova succumbed to a heart condition at the end of a Mass held in his home on 8 September 1555.
He is said to have died on the floor rather than in his bed, which he insisted on offering to a poor man who had come to his house.
He was beatified by Pope Paul V on 7 October 1618. He was canonized by Pope Alexander VII on 1 November 1658.

On a hâte !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Besitos,
Luna
