Eve was tempted to take a bite from the apple. The Original Sin! It separated her and Adam from God. They were banished from Eden, they had to leave God's Safe Garden, and, for better or for worse, had to venture out into the broader outside world

Diavolo planted a fucking apple orchard for Lucifer while Lucifer was still an angel, just because Lucifer offhandedly mentioned liking apples. It was a gesture that was probably one of the stepping stones towards their budding friendship and towards Lucifer questioning the celestial realm and his father, towards Lucifer's growing anger. One of the many* contributing factors towards Lucifer starting a war against the Celestial Realm that would eventually get him and his brothers banished, that would force them to leave their Father's Safe Realm, and, for better or for worse, venture out into the broader outside world. That would cast them into officially becoming Sins.

And Nightbringer has so much apple symbolism relating to Lucifer, that it's on the fucking title screen itself** and up until the present moment Lucifer's favourite food is Poison Apples (it's not even on the nose anymore, it's just straight up a punch to the face)

Diavolo may not have meant for it to be as such, Diavolo 100% only did it because he was starry eyed over Lucifer from day 1, but at the end of the day a Temptation is a Temptation and he held out the Apple and Lucifer took a bite

*the main reason was obviously Lilith, which y'know you could kinda lowkey parallel with some of the stories about og! Lilith's part in the whole apple/eden thing

**and it's explicitly stated that the type of apples Diavolo grows are a deep, vibrant red as opposed to Celestial Realm apples which are all gold & shining:

Thinking about broken up DiaLuci

As in, they used to date and are now broken up, which is angsty within itself, but imagine the aftermath?

It's been a few years, both men still think about each other but don't let it impede their work in any way

Diavolo is in the council room, trying to get stuff done while Lucifer enters, stack of papers in hand

"This is for you." Diavolo looks up and thanks Lucifer, but his eyes catch the way the other demon moves. Sluggish. And.. are those bags under his eyes?

"Have you been overworking yourself again? Come on, Lucifer.. do I need to lessen your workload for a few days? You could use the break, I'm sure. Go home and get some rest, okay?"

Those words confuse Lucifer. How could Diavolo possibly care for him still? How can he still notice.. or care to notice his appearance? He looks at the man in disbelief and upon looking into those eyes.. the dam breaks.

"How could you possibly say those words? How could you care for me, still? I broke your heart. You shouldn't.. you shouldn't be worried for me. Not after what I did."

Diavolo looks taken aback. Lucifer thinks that maybe he went too far out of line. Diavolo stands and Lucifer braces himself for the barrage of anger and emotion that might escape his lord's mouth.

After a few seconds, nothing happens. Lucifer looks back, blood meeting honey. Those eyes. They still shine with the same love, with the same tender gaze that had been directed to him years ago. Diavolo simply smiles, that same damn smile that made Lucifer fall in love.

"Just because you hurt me, doesn't mean I'd hurt you back. Despite my own feelings, I know yours came from a place of pain too. Even if our relationship ended unpleasantly, that doesn't stop me from remembering the good times. Where I held you in my embrace, where you comforted me, where you were there when I needed you.. So, now, I'm going to be there for you. Even if we're broken up. Even if you hate me. Because I'd never hate you."
