It’s Friday and I need a drink. Single malt scotch, of course. I am rather enjoying this anCnoc 18, which is a fairly recent acquisition. Non-chill filtered and natural color.

I am in a funny place right now. I am in mourning as my father is in home hospice care and it’s only a matter of time. That said, he doing well so far and it could be many months thankfully. I have a little more time with him.

To contrast my sad mood, today I received the largest bonus of my professional career, allowing me to finalize the purchase of one of my dream classic cars. My close friend (we call each other brothers from another mother) is selling his 33 year old BMW M3, something he has owned for over 20 years. We have been talking for a year about his desire to sell and he finally agreed to sell it to me. I am giddy with anticipation as I’ll be picking that up in two weeks and I am thrilled to become the owner of a car that is a part of true racing history. It’s arguably the most important car BMW ever made. I worked hard for many years and I am proud that I am in a position to finally be able to buy something like this.

But I feel bad about being happy at a time like this. At a breakneck pace, I am going back and forth from smiling to crying and back again. At least my dad will know about my success if nothing else.

Life can sure take you in all kinds of crazy directions all at once.
