It's been two months and five days since I've started Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Today, I finished the very last episode. (I know I'm making this more dramatic than it is, but idc)

So, it's been a lot. So many good, great things, but also a lot of weird, disturbing things. Characters I loved all the way through (Hunter, Piper, Davis, Sousa, every Koenig (I think)); Characters I almost loved all the way through, except for a few episodes where they made some choices I didn't agree with or so (Fitz, Simmons, Bobbi, Coulson, Daisy, May, Deke, Enoch); Characters about whom I wouldn't say I loved them but I still liked them very much (Mack, YoYo, Trip, Mace, Flint); Characters who weren't exactly the good guys but still were somewhat likable to some extent (Ward, Radcliffe, Cal, Gordon, Jiaying, Sunil Bakshi, Robbie, Kora), and of course Characters who were written to be hated (The Malicks, Garrett, Whitehall, Lucy Bauer, Ellen Nadeer, Ivanov, Kassius, the Hales, Izel, Sybil) and everyone who I don't know in which category to put, or what to name their category.

I am so glad, that the phase in season five where I couldn't stand Daisy, was over as soon as season six started. I was surprised by how MUCH I loved her in season seven.

Season six was definitely my least favorite (and of what I've read I'm not the only one with that opinion). But I can't say it enough, how much I loved the parts in space of Piper, Davis, Daisy, and Jemma (and later only Daisy and Jemma) searching for Fitz and Enoch. I can't think of one single moment right now from that space part, that I didn't like. But I really hated Izel and this whole shrike thing, and Sarge and his team, so I was really glad when season seven started.

Because season seven started off just absolutely great! I already said that I loved their clothes. Sending Jemma in as Peggy Carter in the 50s was perfection. Daisy saying she already has a sister to save, her name is Jemma Simmons. May falling through the ceiling, punching Sybil and saying "The Cavalry". Fitzsimmons naming their daughter after a star. Piper's wish from Jemma being getting Davis back. The team meeting up (at least) once a year to catch up and not losing each other. All of that is perfection.

There is so much more I want to write about, but first, I can't put everything into words (right now), and second, this post would be way too long.

I am so glad that I started Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I'm even more glad that I continued watching even though the first five episodes or so didn't convince me at all, and at first I only stayed because of the characters.

I am thankful for everyone involved, but especially those who decided that these wonderful actors would get the role they got, because honestly? I couldn't have asked for a cast that was more fitting.

I will start re-watch soon (at least in parts), because friends of mine started watching, but I have yet to convince them that it gets better than it currently is (they are in episode four).

October, one of the favorite months of the people, including you, because all the fun that included like decorating houses, finding the right costume for threat or tricking or parties, tasting the seasonal drinks or food for different establishments offered, feeling the autumn breeze and the leafs become orange and fall from the trees, watching scary or Halloween themed movies, pumpkin patches, scary houses and festivals, among other stuff

This was also the month (along with your birthday and december) were you got the most PR packages for multiple brands, this year you recieved the entire Ghostface x Glamlite collection, various products from Hot Topic, clothes from the Killstar x Carrie collaboration, a Chamberlain Coffee fall mistery box, even Tatum recieved some things from Petco

"Congratulations, you're famous", you said to Tatum after openning the package seeing her explore the witch hat bed

And that was only the first week of october

However, this year you'll be spending your weeks differently thanks to the fact that your dad got you a job at Halloween Horror Nights to keep practicing your VFX make up skills, which started since early days of september, while the industry returned to normality getting better deals for the actors

And thanks to your contract ending at the end of the third week of october, you got to rest and focus on Scott's Halloween party

"Get in lovers, we're going shopping!", you exclaimed the moment you stopped in front of the Champion house where Jack, Willa and Romeo were waiting for you in the front porch

"Hi", Jack smiled leaning through the open window of your seat

"Hi", you smiled back taking one of his cheeks with your hand to get him closer to your face and share a small kiss to not incomodate the others

"Don't tell me you got a car", Willa said sitting in the passenger seat next to you, while the boys ended up in the backseat

"No, it's dad's", you responded driving again, "He went golfing with Jakob so he let me use it for the day"

"Nice", Romeo nodded, "How was Halloween Horror Nights?"

"If you think it's cool from the outside, it's amazing from the inside", you responded smiling, "Like, being part of the process of helping to do the looks, helping bring them to life it's incredible, and also learning a lot from all those incredible artists"

"Sounds awesome", Romeo commented, "Did you take photos or videos?"

"I did, I'm going to upload them to Tik Tok and Instagram later"

"Hey, changing the theme a little", Willa said, "I know we've known each other for more than a year but I didn't ask this because there wasn't too much familiarity, but, did your dad and Lucy Hale actually date?"

"Definately", you nodded, "It was only for a few months but they did, she is awesome, and it's funny because a few years before I was watching Pretty Little Liars and Truth or Dare, and then in the middle of quarantine, I woke up and she is in the kitchen having breakfast"

"That's crazy", Willa commented

"I know, and even though they broke up I still talk to her sometimes, well, more like I talk to all dad exes sometimes, mostly congratulate each other on birthdays or festivities, but of course more to my mom because, well, she's my mom"

Before Willa or the boys could comment something, from the playlist you put for the ride on shuffle, it sounded the first words of AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM from Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar, causing you to re-start the song

"America, America has a problem", the four of you said together before the music started to sound

During the rest of the ride, the car was filled with sing-along and performance from the songs until the way ended when you spotted a space in the parking of Spirit Halloween

Stepping out of the car, the four of you started to walk towards the entrance noticing there wasn't too manny people, even if it was close to Halloween

"So, who are you going as?", Willa asked, "We know your friend gave us Barbie and he gave you Scream, but we don't how how are you going to do it"

"Sidney and Billy", Jack answered

"Gender swaped", you completed while entering the store

"I was going to do a Freud joke before you specified that", Romeo said

"Understandable", you shrudded, "I mean, Scott told us to be creative, so we did it"

"Giving everyone a different theme was clever", Romeo commented

"He said he didn't want anyone repeating costume so gave us themes", Jack explained

"We also decided to do something different for our costumes", Willa said, "Since everyone is going to do the most popular ones like the cowboy, disco, roller skate and that, we decided to use the outfits they use to deprogram the Barbies from the patriarchy"

"We're going as Allan and Barbie",

"That is an amazing idea", you commented

Going first to the Barbie section of the store where Willa and Romeo got their costumes and some other accesories (he got to buy his in the extra large size due not being that costume for men), the shopping continue exploring the rest of the store and the different options to costumes, accesories, decorations, toys, which ended up in grabbing some things that none of you needed for your costumes but were liked enough to buy it, playing with some of the fake weapons, wigs and accesories, teasing Jack a bit because of the Avatar stuff, before reaching the Scream section

"The bling knife!", you exclaimed taking it noticing it was the last one

Watching the rest of the aisle, you also took the ghostface crossbody bag, the plushie, and the bling mask, while Jack took the metallic mask for himself

"You don't need fake blood?", Willa asked while walking to the cash register

"I have it at home", you responded, "Like five bottles of 2 litters each"

"Tell them about Carrie The Musical", Jack smiled

"Oh my God", you laughed, "Okay, for context, my school always does a small Halloween carnival for the students, parents, teachers and that, so the october before the pandemic we did Carrie The Musical, and I auditioned and got the role of Chris Hargensen, so we started rehearsing and preparing the sets, the utilery and that, and when the director asked me to bring the fake blood for the prom scene, I think she expected me to bring a small bottle for the face he did when I pull out a gallon of fake blood out of my backpack"

"Where did you get a gallon of fake blood so easily?", Romeo laughed

"From the set of Riverdale", you responded, "It was during the weeks were dad would be on set all week and returned on the weekends to be with us, I told him I needed to get some fake blood, but like in buy it that weekend, and then he's getting the gallon out of of his travel bag"

Paying for all of the stuff you choose, the four of you left the store to go have lunch in Olive Garden (which ended up in ordering the Never Ending Pasta), before returning to your place to work on the fake blood for the costumes, noticing your brother's car was on the entrance which meant that they were back from their golf day

"Dad! We're home!", you exclaimed leaving the car keys on the small bowl on the entry before walking to the kitchen stopping for a small moment on the living room, "Why are you having a glare war with my cat?"

"Hey tornado, and other tornados", Jakob greeted standing in front of the flower cat tower, "Tatum hates me, we arrived like half an a hour ago, when dad approached her, she was all lovely and sweet, then she sees me and she's like a giant tiger in the body of a small furr ball"

"Skxawng", you said to him getting closer to hold Tatum in your arms, at what the orange kitten snuggle in your chest to play with your initial necklace, "She doesn't hate you, she just doesn't see you enough"

"Seriously?", Jakob raised an eyebrow, "Willa, Romeo, can you help me prove a point here? Can both of you hold Tatum, please?"

Smiling with fun, both of them held Tatum who was happy for the attention she was having

"See!", Jakob exclaimed watching how Jack was now holding the orange cat, "Tatum hates me"

"Jakob, let your sister alone", Skeet warned from the kitchen, which made everyone go there, "Hey kids, how was shopping?"

"Good, we found everything we needed", you responded leaving your bag in one of the high chairs and approach the fridge to get something to drink for the four of you

"That's nice", Skeet nodded, "By this dates Spirit Halloween or any stores like that are empty of stuff, did you ate?"

"Yeah, we stopped at Olive Garden to have lunch", Willa responded while you returned and started giving them the drinks

"Yeah, all of you shared the Never Ending Pasta", Jakob said looking at his phone causing to all of you to look at him weirdly, "I just saw it on Deuxmoi, someone took a photo"

"The word privacy doesn't exist for them", Romeo commented watching the photo

"At least they didn't took it while we were eating", Jack pointed

"That's the only good part", you shrudded, "Hey dad, we're going to my room to keep working on our costumes"

"Have fun", Skeet nodded while the fur of you along with Tatum started to go upstairs, "Tornado, two packages arrived for you"

"Two?", you exclaimed stopping to look at your dad, "Just today?"

"Yeah, we left them in your room", Skeet answered

"And they were heavy", Jakob completed, "Enjoy the unboxing"

Continuing to go upstairs, the four of you walked through the hall until you entered your room noticing the two boxes stacked on top of another under your ghostface masks

"I think this is the year were I'm getting the more PR stuff", you sighed, "Before we work in our costumes I need to see what I got and when to upload them"

"That's okay", Jack nodded letting Tatum go, who inmediatly went to her window hammock, to hug you and kiss you on the forehead, "We can wait"

"And we want to be part of the unboxing", Willa added leaving her shopping bag in your vanity chair

While they helped you to get the two boxes in the carpet in front of your bed (which was your usual spot for filming), you went to the night stands to get your light ring and your cutter before returning to sit with your back against the bed where the rest were already sat in the carpet

"Why does this feel like we're about to do the 'light as a feather, stiff as a board' thing'?", Romeo commented

That comment was enough to make the four of you burst in laughs

"This is extremely accurate", Jack laughed

"The best part is that one of the actors of The Craft is downstairs", you joked increasing the laughs

Once the laughing finished, you finally started to open the boxes, starting with the one in front of you

"It's the Scooby Doo collection from Wet n Wild", you said getting the box on the form of The Mystery Machine and the card out of the cardboard box, which Jack was quick to slice next to the door, before reading the small note on top, "It says 'post on Tik Tok the day it arrives'"

Organizing your enviroment and positioning your phone with the light in the tripod in a way it looked good, you started filming while the others watched or play with any item you had in your room (appearing for small seconds in the background), giving small reviews on the products

"Thank you so much Wet n Wild for thinking of me and sending these amazing products, it's an honor, and dearest friends behind the screen, make sure to watch these collection on the Wet n Wild page or in your local store, thank you so much and see you next time", you said finishing the five minute Tik Tok before writing a small description and uploading it, "First one done, one to go"

"I love the packaging in these", Willa commented sitting back next to you watching the products, "It's so fun"

"I know, the best honestly, is the make up bag in form of the Mystery Machine", you pointed, "Wet n Wild and Glamlite definately won this year with their collections"

While the boys started to play dress up with your accesories in your closet, you and Willa continued with the next box which was a bit smaller

"This is from That Candle Stuff", you said getting the box out, "It says 'enjoy the candles we personally picked for you', this is so cute"

"I once saw them on Tik Tok, they said they were doing a horror collection", Willa commented, "It could be that"

"Makes sense", you nodded, "I mean, I'm one of the horror nepo babies"

Getting the candles from the box noticing they were mostly of Ghostface and reading the card, you started to do the stories for insta reviewing the candles with small comments from Willa before tagging the store and uploading it

"And we're done, let's continue the costumes", you sighed, "Boys, let's go!"

Gattering the parts of Jack costume that would be covered in fake blood and three bottles of fake blood, the four of you, with Tatum in Romeo arms, went downstairs to go to the pool backyard

"Hey dad, we're going to work with fake blood"

"Just make sure to clean everything, don't want to see a mess"

Stepping to the backyard, you placed the shirt on top of old newspaper, with another in the middle, to start working while the rest sat next to you

"So, no corn syrup this time?", Jakob asked getting out of the house to see

"Wes was a genius by using corn syrup as a reference to Carrie, but is messy when using it, also sticky and uncomfortable, you don't want ants climbing on you", you responded putting fake blood on the shirt and spreading it with your hand, "Fake blood is easy to control and it dries without losing the original color"

"Little tornado, I trust your habilities and talent on VFX make up, but, do you have a back up plan in case something goes wrong?", Jakob asked crouching on the floor next to all of you

"Billy and Stu", Jack responded for you because you were focused on putting the fake blood in the right places

"Anything from the first movie basically", you resumed stopping to compare the shirt with the photo you printed, "Shirt is done"

Hanging the blodied shirt at the railling of the outside stairs, the next part was the long sleeved jean shirt, which Jack had to put in so it could be the most accurate as in the movie, and you had to stand in a small stool to do it correctly

"You know what bothers me more about seeing Carrie costumes every year?", Willa spoked sitting on the sofa and playing with Tatum, "The lack of fake blood"

"Totally right", Jack nodded while you and Romeo did the same according to her

"I mean, they don't pour the blood completely, it's only small droplets in the face and it's all", Willa continued, "Not even the dress, and the band? Carrie doesn't wear a band"

"I'll say high five but my hands are covered in blood", you joked dropping blood in the sleeves, "Carrie was covered in a whole bucket of blood, it wasn't like a mini bottle, it was a whole ass pig's blood, and if you don't want fake blood all over you, then find another way to do it"

Continuing with the conversation about Halloween costumes, you kept working with the fake blood on Jack's costume finishing and leaving the shirt hanging with the other so it dries overnight

And it wasn't until the night before going to sleep that you saw stories from Willa, Romeo and Jakob on instagram that said "no one takes Halloween more serious than Y/N", "when your best friend's girl is a VFX make up artist and you have a Halloween party" and "Is this how kids play these days?", respectively

When the saturday arrived, you slept with Tatum in your arms a bit more to survive for the night, waking up at noon to have a small brunch and then lunch with your dad before going upstairs to start the preparing for the party

And fortunately, the fake bloodied clothes were in perfect state

"Who's ready to party?", Jack exclaimed entering your room behind Willa and Romeo, "Hi, gorgeous"

"Hi babe", you responded while Jack bend over to hug you because you were in your make up chair, "Hi guys, Scott told us to be there an hour before it starts so we have a few hours to get ready"

"Can we see the cardigan?", Willa asked after leaving her bag in top of your bed

"Which cardigan?", you asked with a little smile starting to go to your closet

"You know which one", Willa exclaimed

"The Folklore ones, the Holiday ones, the Red one, the Speak Now one", you said grabbing the one she was refering to, "Or the 1989 one that came with the vynil and a written note!"

"Taylor knows that you exist!", Willa exclaimed getting close to you

"Taylor knows who I am", you screamed before starting to read the note, "As I re-release and reclaim my beloved 1989 album, I wanted to send you some gifts to say thank you for your suport, love Taylor"

Putting the 1989 TV vynil on your vynil player after chilling a little bit, the prepearing for the party continued, and even if Jack and Romeo didn't need make up, you and Willa still made them use facial masks

While they played with Tatum in the carpet, you and Willa helped with each others make up and hair, hers was wavy with the headband and yours was straight

Seeing how you and Willa we're almost ready with the hair and make up, the boys went to your closet to get change to their costumes before it was your turn to get changed, your version of the costume was like following the rule of Mean Girls, which was a strapples short black dress with a long sleeve fishnet top and long leather gloves

"Are you going to use the gloves all night?", Willa asked while organizing purses

"Only for photos", you responded helping putting some fake blood on Jack's hair, "I didn't cry for three hours for not show the tattoo"

"I can confirm that", Jack joked recieving a small tug in his hair by you, "That didn't hurt"

"I know", you smiled ruffling his hair a bit before cleaning your hands with wet wipes, "Does this give you flashbacks?"

"Yeah, but it would be better if you would've been there"

"I was there, for a day"

"But it wasn't enough"

"You know that I didn't wanted to get spoiled on everything"

"But I want to see you in one of the sets with me"

"Remember that James Cameron and Jon Landau invited me to the set when the filming for Avatar returns"

"And you'll be there?"

"Of course! I want to see you in the motion capture suit and the little dots on your face"

Laughing, Jack pulled you towards him to hug you but you tried to be careful because of the fake blood covering part of his face and hair

Once the four of you were ready and took some photos, you took your ghostface crossbody bag, the bling mask, the bling knife and the little VFX make up tool box that you prepare in case anyone needs it, to go downstairs, Tatum was downstairs since an hour ago

"Dad, we're about to go", you announced stopping in the living room where he was watching a movie with Tatum in the sofa

"Go change your shoes", Skeet ordered seeing your look, "I won't let my child use a Ghostface costume with crocs, put your Dr Martens or any type of boots you want, even sneakers, but not the crocs"

"What's wrong with them?", you laughed

"Ghostface doesn't use crocs!", Skeet exclaimed causing Jack, Willa and Romeo to giggle, "It's always boots or sneakers, not crocs"

"But I want to be comfortable", you justified

"Listen, tornado", Skeet sighed, "Since you started to be a public figure, content creator, influencer or whatever you want to call it, people started to call you the 'ghostface princess', and I won't let you humilliate yourself by wearing crocs to a Halloween Party, so-"

"Dad, this is a prank", you revealed still laughing, "I'm going to wear my over-the-knee platform black boots"

"Don't scare me like that again", Skeet sighed starting to get up from the couch, "Come on, I'm going to take some photos"

After changing shoes and posing on the living room, in the backyard and in the front door with some of the decorations, the four of you started to climb into Jack's car

"Don't be here too late, drive careful and if you need me to go get you just let me know", Skeet exclaimed, "Have fun!"

During the whole thirty minute ride to Scott's house the noises that filled the car were the soft music, indications from you and comments about the decorated houses until the way stopped in front of a big suburban house decorated for the date and with a few cars stationed in the entry

"Let's start the night!", Romeo exclaimed while walking to the entrance of the house

"You are going to get along so well", you smiled towards Willa and Romeo while walking hand in hand with Jack

"Totally", Jack agreeded, "They're really cool"

Arriving at the front door, you knocked the door, which only lasted for a few seconds because it was open by Scott who was dressed as Patrick Bateman

"There's my favorite Hollywood couple", Scott exclaimed with happiness, "You look incredible, all of you, come in"

"Hello Patrick Bateman", you greeted hugging him quickly

"Hi honey", Scott returned looking carefully at the four of you, "You made him look bloddy, I love it"

"Just another day on Sidney and Billy's life", Jack joked

"That's really creative", Scott commented

"You told us to be creative so we did", you shrudded

"And I'm going to asume that you are Willa and Romeo based on the anti-pathriarchy Barbie costumes", Scott smiled seeing them, "Nice to meet you, love the way you interpreted it"

"Thank you for let us come to the party", Romeo said

"The more the merrier", Scott simplified, "Besides, I like to have more friends"

"I hear my bestie's voice", Sarah exclaimed from another part of the house

"Is because your bestie is here", you responded

Walking through the house, the five of you went to the dinning room where the rest of the group was already there

"Hello Freddy, Michael and Ellen Ripley", you smiled towards Sarah, Abby (whoms costumes were in the same style as yours) and Noah respectively

"Hello, Ghostface and Sidney", Abby greeted, "And hello to you to Barbie and Allan"

"Sig!", Jack exclaimed as a joke going to hug Noah

"Jack Jack!", Noah also exclaimed hugging him back

Greeting and introducing everyone, the eight of you continued to help decorate the house and you added some details to the ones who had make up or blood on them

"So, how much people will be here?", Willa asked

"Like twenty something including us", Scott responded while you were splashing some fake blood on him, "It's something small"

"We always do something small", Noah explained, "We had this tradition since middle school to go threat or tricking and then go to one of our houses to have a sleepover"

"We started doing that because Kira and Bethany didn't invited us to their Halloween parties", Sarah laughed

"She tried us to go after she saw dad on a Riverdale commercial", you added, "Not even a chapter, it was only a commercial"

"Thank God you ended her during the late prom", Abbey pointed, "I think she deleted her Twitter account or it got suspended because it's not longer there"

"Cheers to that", Scott commented, "You've should see how our girl ended her"

"We saw the live", Romeo said, "Like the next day it was on the internet and Jack send it to us, it was wild"

"I'm going to be honest, I don't care if someone calls me a nepo baby, because I am", you spoked, "If you say it in a way that is like 'she's the daughter of Skeet Ulrich and he's helping her to become a VFX make up artist' is okay for me because it's true, but if it's in a bad way as an insult like 'she gets everything she wants because of her dad and she doesn't work hard for things' then we have a problem because I'm working hard to become one of the best of the industry"

"The day any of you are nominated for an Oscar", Scott said pointing at you, Jack and Willa, "I want to design what you're going to wear"

In the meantime while the rest arrived, the eight of you passed the time doing some Tik Toks to post later with different audios and took some pictures

Once the rest of the people arrived with their costumes of different iconic movies, the party started with a small themed-Halloween dinner, which was followed by a session of karaoke and small games, leaving the dance part for the rest of the night (which also included a small "ritual" with Willow by Taylor Swift), and some classic dances from movies

On sunday, which was the day that the whole family reunite to spend the day together, your siblings along with their couples, and Anna along with Butters and Izzy arrived a bit before noon to help prepare lunch

"Where's the little tornado?", Naiia asked after feeling the house so calm, "And the other tornados, the house feels so calm"

I enjoyed this book a lot even though there wasn't a major plot outside of Lucy and Joshua, but I was a little disappointed on how early on they first kissed? However, it was very well compensated with the slow burn in the development of the rest of their relationship. There was A LOT of provocation and bickering still throughout the rest of the book, promoted by the fact that at work they were still rivals. The book wasn't super spicy but the couple of scenes that did happen were quite explicit.

Also, the nickname Joshua uses for Lucy. 😭

“Shortcake.” “Stop calling me Shortcake.” “Watching you pretend to hate that nickname is the best part of my day.”

This book has a movie adaptation. It wasn't phenomenal and I'm not a fan of how they changed the sequence of the plot, but it was overall cute if you're into the cliché-romcoms. It does have Lucy Hale in it tho, I thought it was cute.

Here’s a possible prompt. I’ve been rolling it around for a few days and can’t decide. First meeting at the local bar. What the hell does Lucy say when she walks up and sits down next to Kate. It’s one of those nights. It’s been one of those days. One of those weeks, really. The new job is good—challenging, invigorating, even exhilarating sometimes—but this week has been a lot. Her first hand-to-hand takedown of a suspect (she got walloped and Jesse had to tackle the guy), her first car chase (he got away and she scratched the shit out of the side of her NCIS vehicle), her first time getting yelled at by DIA (which she did not deserve), her first stern conversation with Tennant about her progress (which she did).

Tennant is amazing. The best boss Lucy’s ever had, hands down. She knows that Tennant has her back, that Tennant knows she’s learning as quickly as she can, but this week has been backslide city.

It’s Friday night, and Lucy is ready to stop thinking about the Navy altogether. Maybe even chuck the whole ocean out along with it for a few days. Let herself breathe without the churning rhythm of the waves beating onto the island, the smell of a salty, watery death clinging to her clothes and hair at night.

She loves living in Hawaii, and she loves her new job, but tonight is definitely a night be someone else. Lucy Tara, financial consultant. Or maybe Lucy Tara, general manager of a trendy beachwear boutique downtown. Anyone other than Lucy Tara, NCIS Junior Agent, or Lucy Tara, Oil Heiress, really.

On nights like this, Lucy always like to go Hale Kaiāulu. It’s nothing special, just her local dive, but she’s never seen anyone from the naval base there. She only goes there on these nights, the anonymous ones when she wants to be one of the people. No gun, no badge, no family baggage. Just herself and a beer and the idle chatter of whatever local is perched next to her up at the bar.

'Netflix's "Ripley" has arrived. The eight-episode series premiered Thursday on Netflix and is a fresh take on Patricia Highsmith's chameleon-like conman, who the world was first introduced to in her 1955 novel, "The Talented Mr. Ripley."...

Like Anthony Minghella's 1999 sun-dappled adaptation, which starred Matt Damon in the central role, and the French take on the story "Purple Noon" released in 1960, "Ripley" follows the titular grifter (Andrew Scott) as he ingratiates himself into the life of two wealthy Americans living la dolce vita on a never-ending vacation in Italy.

Critics have praised the series, citing its striking film noir visuals and compelling cast performances. But for some, the pacing of the show is an issue; the slow, almost languid nature of the episodes (the longest of which clocks in at 76 minutes) means it's not necessarily one you could — or should — sit down and binge in one go.

As many critics have pointed out, "Ripley" indulges in every minute of its almost eight-hour run time. It may take a few episodes to engross audience members, but it's well worth the ride.

The Financial Times' Dan Einav noted that the series "takes its time to establish each location with a scene-setting collage of images," pointing out "wonderful details like the liver-spotted hand of a bus driver shifting gear to climb up towards Dickie's village and the bubbles of champagne in Ripley's glass as he acclimatises to a new life."

"The careful mapping of Tom's every move, whether in furtherance of his deceit or the covering up of his crimes, allows the tension to mount exquisitely," Lucy Mangan wrote for The Guardian.

"This kind of meticulous artistry deserves equally attentive viewing," Lena Wilson argued for IGN, adding: "Despite streaming in full on Netflix, 'Ripley' works best when watched in moderation."

However, Aramide Tinubu, writing for Variety, disagreed, arguing that "the episodes are painfully overlong and full of dead space."

"'Ripley' unfolds too slowly — as the trail of events attracts the attention of an Italian detective (Maurizio Lombardi) — while creating the risk that some people will bail out before the series reaches the good stuff," CNN's critic Brian Lowry stated.

In her review of the series for BBC, Caryn James wrote that Andrew Scott "brings a hum of sinister energy to the role of Tom Ripley."

The New York Times's Mike Hale said the Irish actor "does a meticulous job of portraying Ripley's transition from shifty timidity to insolent confidence, from lost boy to aesthete, through subtle shifts of expression and posture."

"Charismatic and scary in equal measure, Scott has never been better, and he's aided in his exceptional cause by Zaillian, whose writing is razor-sharp and his direction just as assured," the Daily Beast's Nick Schager said in his review.

But, as Daniel Fienberg wrote in his review for The Hollywood Reporter, Scott is "too old" to play the fledgling sociopath.

"It's one thing for Tom Ripley to be an unformed if still protean grifter at 21 or 22, but another thing still to be scraping by without an identity at 35," he argued...

"In an era where huge TV budgets often equate to cheap-looking visuals, Ripley is staggeringly, starkly beautiful," John Nugent wrote for Empire.

Cary Darling, writing for The Houston Chronicle, said that Elswit's monochrome palette is "almost a character of its own, one that throws the story into a sharp, film-noir relief."

Writing for Collider, Remus Noronha stated: "Every shot in 'Ripley' is perfectly composed, worthy of being showcased in a gallery as high art."

Ultimately, "Ripley" feels like it has been cut from an entirely different cloth to that of the 1999 film version of "The Talented Mr. Ripley," which is the best-known adaptation. Most reviewers agree that distinction is a good thing.

"The story may revolve around imitation, but 'Ripley' is a show determined to do its own thing," Einav wrote in his review for the Financial Times.

"'The Talented Mr. Ripley' has often been adapted in a way that felt sweaty, hot, and impassioned — this one is ice cold, drained of color and most human emotion. The choice really serves the reading of Ripley as an amoral creature, someone who doesn't cross boundaries of right and wrong as much as he never even considers them," reads the RogerEbert.com critic Brian Tallerico's review of the series.

As many reviewers pointed out, Zaillian's main point of reference for the series may have been the work of Alfred Hitchcock, the filmmaker best known for "Psycho," "The Birds," and "Strangers on a Train" (the last of which was adapted from another of Highsmith's novels).

"'Ripley' plays as if it were a Hitchcock series Hitchcock never made," reads the BBC review.

Rolling Stone's Alan Sepinwall called it "a masterpiece of Hitchcock-style suspense."...'
