One shot - Sargent Hunter
A little something fun while I work on part three of “it’s better this way”
Tumblr media
Warnings: 18+ (I'm always gunna say that just to be safe), mostly fluff
“I’ve never brought anyone home before”
Summary:
This is super out of any and all context but lets assume the Clone war ended happy. Hunter met a girl he really likes (who he has been with for a while) and he never thought anything of her not having a family. Let's be honest, the war destroyed a lot of them but don't worry this fic isn't about that. Our female character here does however, have someone who is very special to her and shes dying for Hunter to meet them! Also @lune-de-miel-au-paradis gave me this idea so this fic so this goes out to her and thanks to @cloneloverrrrr for the assist 🫡 you guys are awesome!
I don't want to give too much away so lets get right into it...
Standing at the door to my apartment I hesitate to open the door. It's not like this wasn't my idea because it was, but now I'm nervous. What if Hunter doesn't like him? What if he doesn't like Hunter? They both just mean to so much to me, I just need this to go well...
"Mesh'la? Everything okay?" Hunter's voice pulls me from my thoughts.
I spin around and face him, our faces only inches apart. "I really need this to go well. I'm not really worried about you, I'm more worried about how he will react. I've never brought anyone home before."
"Well I'm sure whoever he is, will see how much I care about you and understand" he explains wrapping his arms around my waist, his hands find their home in the small of my back. I can't help but reach for his face, placing both hands on his cheeks and run my thumb over his tattooed face.
"I'm not so sure it would be that simple..." I trail off. Hunter has no idea who he is about to meet and once he does it will probably make more sense. We stand there for a moment, locked in one another's gaze. His eyes are so gentle and warm, sometimes I have a hard time imagining him fighting a war.
I pull him close and give him a quick peck on the lips, "Alright ready?" He offers a nod in response.
Spinning around, I reach into my pocket for my keys and unlock the door. It creaks as it opens altering to the occupants that someone is entering. I push open the door further and reach behind me for Hunter's hand which he doesn't hesitate to take. The two of us enter together, shutting the door behind. I chuckle and glance back to see the look on his face that tell me he's confused. His eye brows are knitted together as he glances between me and my seemingly empty apartment.
"I though you said he would be here. There's no one here."
I can't help giggle as butterflies dance around in my stomach. His senses can alert him to just about anything but he still hasn't figured it out yet.
"Please keep an open mind"
At the sound of my voice, there's a thud and the sound pitter patter of small careful steps can be heard coming from my bedroom. From where Hunter's standing the view of my door is likely blocked by me and my couch. I get down on my knees and drag him to the floor with me. A small *prrrt* comes from behind said couch.
"Come here! It's okay buddy, I brought someone I'd like you to meet" I say speaking softly.
He poke his head head around the corner of the couch and his little hazel eyes flick between us. I can understand his hesitation, Hunter isn't an overly large man but compared to him...
"A cat?" Hunter's voice comes from over my shoulder. He still sounds so confused.
"I told you to keep an open mind" I chuckle and turn to face him, "Remember how I told you, I feel like we all have some kind of soulmate that might not necessarily be human?"
He doesn't take his eyes of the small creature hiding himself behind the couch, "Uh...yeah?"
"This is him! This is Rufus!" I say with pride. Hunter's eyes meet mine and the confusion seems to be gone. A smirk tugs at the corner of his lips.
"So you're telling me I'm going to have to compete with a cat for your attention?"
My mouth drops open and I smack him on the shoulder, not thinking about Rufus. We both quickly look over and notice he isn't behind the couch.
"Now look at what you've done" he teases.
I give him a look but notice he's not looking at me, he's looking on the other side of me. As I put one hand on the floor to turn myself the other way, something furry rubs my arm. Glancing over Rufus is looking up and me and offers another *prrt* before purring. He rubs back and forth on me for a few moments paying no mind to Hunter who watches quietly. A smile spreads across my face at the sight of him just watching Rufus, taking it all in.
"Do you want anything? Some water?" I ask not really wanting to know if he wants something but looking for a reason to give him some one on one.
Hunter's eyes flick back to me momentarily, "Uh no, I'm alright thanks." I nod before getting up and heading towards the kitchen, just out of their line of sight.
Grabbing myself a glass of water, I stand there for a few minutes and decide to sneak a glance in the other room. The scene before me is exactly what I was hoping for. Hunter has made himself comfortable on the couch and I watch as Rufus jumps up on the armrest before hopping on the cushion, disappearing from my sight behind the backrest. Stepping back towards the sink, I place my glass inside before heading back into the living room.
When I enter the living room, Hunter is looking down at his lap. Not wanting to disturb whatever is going on, I find my place behind Hunter, resting my elbows on the back of the couch on their side of him. Rufus is curled up in his lap, his little golden eyes looking up at the two of us. Hunter reaches out slowly and gently pats him on the head. At the contact, Rufus closes his eyes and I can’t help but giggle.
“What?” Hunter gets defensive. I cover my mouth with one hand and try not to laugh out loud. The interaction is awkward and unbelievably adorable. The war hardened soldier interacting with a small creature in a way a child does when seeing one for the first time.
Sliding one hand over his shoulder to his chest, I can feel how tense he is. I lean my head into the side of his and whisper in his ear, “You’re not going to hurt him you know.” He huffs a sigh, gently scratching the top of Rufus’ head, who is purring quite loudly at this point. My other hand finds its way to Hunter chest and at this point I finally feel him relax.
The sense of calm floating through the room right now is something I will forever cherish, both of soulmates finally meeting. I notice Hunter pause his movements before turning to face me, “Mesh’la were you worried he would not like me or the other way around?”
I can’t help the relief that washes over me, escaping as a content sigh. Finally I answer him, “Maybe…but I can see you both will get along just fine.” Patting his chest, I place a kiss on his cheek before joining him on the couch.

Sorry I didn't want to give too much away in the summary because I liked the idea of a surprise! On that note, I really do believe that we all have an animal soulmate out there and mine currently lives with me. He's been with me for the last 10 years, through highschool, moved away to college with me, was with me when I got married, we got out first apartment, and our first house. He really is something special to me and I wanted to honor him in a fic! I hope you enjoyed 😊

HIMYM or How Andy Met Manon:
Chapter One: Hope Dies Last
Tumblr media
This story is very unserious (until it isn't), some portrayals of canon characters might be exaggerated. Sorry not sorry. This is purely for fun.
Reid Van de Lune belongs to @kc-and-co, Mina Pendleton, who is briefly mentioned belongs to @lifeofkaze.
You can find all the chapters here.
Tumblr media
The whole school was buzzing with excitement and rumours about the friendly visit from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang schools. It was announced a few days before that Hogwarts, once again, will be hosting representatives from both schools. The students were divided into the ones that couldn't wait for the visit and the ones that couldn't care less. Andy Adler represented the former, Hayden Jenkins - the latter. The breakfasts were starting to get really tough to get through with their different amounts of enthusiasm.
"You don't even know if she's going to be there." Hayden said, annoyed at his best friend.
"She is, I can feel it."
"You only saw her, like one time! She probably doesn't even remember you. You didn't even speak to her, I bet."
"Who doesn't remember him?"
Reid Van de Lune joined them, confused about what his friends were squabbling over this time.
"Some random french girl, Andy fantasies about since the last Beauxbatons visit. Three. Years. Ago."
"Her name was Manon!"
Haden brows furrowed. "How do you even know that?"
Andy's whole face melted into an adoring expression, and Hayden quickly regretted his question.
"The wind knocked off her hat in the Clock Tower Courtyard. I picked it up, and the name was embroidered on the inside."
"Don't tell me you kept the hat…"
"Of course not! I gave it back to her immediately. I looked into her eyes… Man, I wish her friends didn't start giggling and dragging her away with them."
"Woah," concluded Reid, "it's like, a scene from, like… a movie."
"Sure, if you're into psychological horror," Hayden scoffed.
Andy sighed, not giving up.
"Come on, don’t be like that! Help me out, I only need a few French lessons, and if she won't be there, it still couldn't hurt, right? Don't any of your fancy slytherin housemates know french?"
Hayden laughed almost honestly. "Maybe in the last century, they were fancy. Have you seen my roommates? Barnaby can barely handle English."
"Hayden."
"I mean, I guess Mina Pendleton, maybe?" He pointed at a blonde girl at the slytherin table, "But I'm not going to be the one talking to her."
"Why not?"
Hayden shuddered. "She intimidates me."
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE ALL OUT?!”
Virginia Scott’s angry voice carried through the Great Hall.
"Speaking of girls that are unapproachable…" Andy mumbled as their attention turned towards the end of their table.
“Exactly what I just said.” Jae Kim, the person her anger was directed at, didn't seem worried. “I’m out of all the firewhiskey, elder wine, in all honesty I don’t even have butterbeer at the moment.”
Gigi bit her tongue to avoid screaming at him again.
“And you’re only telling me this now?”
“You didn’t ask about anything specific when we talked last week. You know how fast these things sell around here.”
“I-“ she started but was immediately interrupted by the boy sitting next to her.
“So, how long would it take to execute our order?” asked Diego Caplan, pouring coffee into Gigi's cup in an attempt to calm her down.
“Depends.” he answered, looking suspiciously at the list laying on the table before him. “It’s a big order.”
Gigi sighed heavily and reached for her schoolbag in order to find her purse.
“Ever since you ripped me off on that divination chart you’ve become unbearable, Kim,” she said, handing him a couple of galleons.
Jae shrugged and shoved them into his pocket.
“I’ll talk to you soon.”
And with that he was gone.
"Dude, even since her and the hippie broke up she's been a walking nightmare."
"You mean more than usual?" Hayden chuckled. "No, you're right though, she's unbearable in normal circumstances, but this year is like if someone slipped the essence of insanity into her morning coffee."
"Duuude–" Reid almost choked on air, "what if there was like, a potion that would make you totally speak another language?"
"That would be… perfect actually!" Andy jumped up in his seat. "Is there one?"
Reid suddenly became very serious.
"Do I have an obsession with potions and a head full of blond hair?"
"No…?"
"Then how should I know, I'm not Penny Haywood."
Hayden tuned out their conversation as someone tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around to see two girls he vaguely recognised as fifth year slytherin students. They both were awfully giddy for a Monday morning.
"Sorry, you're Hayden Jenkins, right?"
"The one and only, how can I help you?"
"Well, we just wanted to say that we can't wait to see your band play at the party this Saturday."
"My… band?"
They nodded their heads energetically, and before he could ask more questions, they sprinted out of the Great Hall giggling.
He turned back to his friends completely dumbfounded.
"Snails," Reid said as if he just discovered a new spell.
"Reid that's… I mean it won't hurt to try, we should go anyway if we want to hit the greenhouse before the lessons start."
They gathered their things and stood up.
"Mate, you coming?"
"No, go ahead, I have to take care of something first."
"Suit yourself," Andy shrugged and they were already out of the door.
Hayden also didn't stay at his spot. He had business to take care of at the end of the table. He passed Diego Caplan on his way to the evil witch, and Hayden could swear the Hufflepuff mouthed "good luck" to him.
Virginia Scott was fixing her nails, seemingly unbothered, but Hayden knew her well enough to know that she was still angry about the encounter from before. Her feelings were the least of his concerns at the moment, though.
"Hayden, this is not the best time, darling," she said before he even spoke.
"Don't worry, I just have one little question for you."
She put down the nail file and looked up at him, raising her eyebrows as if she really wanted to hear it.
“Why am I finding out from some random fifth year that not only I have a band but also that I'm going to play with it at your party?”
“Oh, I actually wanted to talk to you about this. I need you to play at my party.”
“Gigi."
“Yes Hayden?”
“I don’t have a band.”
“I’m sure you can figure something out, darling.”
Hayden sighed, immediately regretting not going to the greenhouse with his friends. He could use a smoke right now, after all.

hello friend :)) how about kaede for the ask game if you’d like to do her!!!
hello!! :))) kaede my beloved, of course i would love to talk about her!!! lots of things to say lots of things to say! i think she might be my favourite v3 girl
least favourite thing about them: literally such a dumb thing but: her bangs. idk why but i ALWAYS draw them the wrong way around, then have to correct my sketch by checking reference pictures lol?? which is so weird bc i love kaede but it just won't stay in my brain. kaede please swap your hair direction for me and me only, thank you
favourite thing about them: i love how positive and encouraging she is! i love how she took up the leader position and tried to keep everyone positive and find a way out in ch1 :) and in terms of gameplay, i just absolutely love ch1's angle with the protagonist being the killer (i know she isn't really, but that's how the chapter functions lol) it was such a unique twist. if i didn't spoil the game for myself (on purpose, like, i just straight up went and read the entire plot on wikipedia right after character interactions and stuff for every game😭😭) i definitely wouldn't have seen it coming. but then going back through it and seeing all the small hints aa i love it
favourite line: i can't remember the exact words but doesn't she say at some point that she wants everyone to be friends when they escape? :) not a voiced line i don't think but she's such a sweetheart
brotp: i am such a sucker for kaito and kaede being friends, my silly lil guys, so silly such bffs. i just love them both and they are both so encouraging and sweet and lovely!! they would high five each other lots
otp: my two favourites are gonna have to beeee tenkaede and kaemaki :) tenkaede for obvious reasons, my silly little lesbians i ADORE them, so perfectly matched for each other!! i love how she calls tenko cute multiple times lol :) it sucks that they're somewhat a rarepair, i wish there was more art and fics of them out there :( i will have to just make them myself lol. then for kaemaki, i knowww it's so silly because saimatsu and kaimaki are so common and im literally just flipping them but....idk, i just much prefer it this way around! :) i like imagining that kaede is the only one who can break maki's shell and get to the vulnerable side of her. and i love their interactions in utdp especially the one including chihiro
notp: as with the kaito ask thing, it isn't a ship i hate at all, just one i dislike more than the average danganronpa fan i think, so no hate if you like it whatsoever!!... saimatsu :') i headcanon kaede as a lesbian so not a massive fan of shipping her with boys anyway personally (okay I've just realised other than rantaro, in literally every character ask post I've answered i headcanon them as gay lol😭 i swear it isn't everyone! justttt quite a lot) and specifically about saimatsu, it's sweet but it just feels so forced, like they didn't wanna give anyone a chance to ship either of them before she died yknow? i love them as friends though :)) <3
random headcanon: she has a little heart shaped pillow on her bed that she cuddles while she sleeps
unpopular opinion: i'm not sure if i really have any for her, hmmm sorry!
a song i associate with them: it has to be clair de lune, right?! :)
favourite picture of them: she is such a sweetheart! comfortin silly little shu!! i love pretty much any picture of her though
Tumblr media
thank you for asking about kaede!!!! :D this was lots of fun!! and for anyone else still curious im happy to answer about more characters :)

👌(Orchid) (with any oc you choose)
Aye, first one! Cheers!]]
👌- [Exploring a PLATONIC relationship]
[ Sol ]
.Sol is used to be solitary for a loong time now and the concept of friendship still feels foreign to him. It's a little weird to him but he's making an effort to understand it better as of late. Means, them becoming friends isn't impossible after all!
.People (humans, villagers and illagers alike) tend to accuse him to bring bad omens, disasters, bad luck and simply death itself, if he even so came near a settlement. Brines [Herobrine] are largely seen as dangerous and all powerful beings, so he simply expects people to be scared and act irrational just spotting him. In any case the usual folk isn't too happy to see him and likewise he isn't too enthusiastic to run into strangers either. Unless he wants to make a scene on purpose because he's bored, caving in on the expectiations put on him.
.Orchid being a friendly illager, though practically raised by villagers, would make him ponder just a bit and distract him a little from his otherwise usual fight or flight response. Anything out of the ordinary- like peoples behaviour being so different from what he'd assume from them- make him halt in his tracks and curiosity takes over. He'll overthink for a while. That can start up a conversation as he ponders and might be inclined to ask questions on the hows and whys.
.Maybe they can bond little over how people assume bad things about them, just because of what they are. Hope she doesn't mind him following her for a while as he tends to when he's mildly interested in someones story.
.Sol will make snarky and grumpy remarks and likely mess with her, but has no malicious intent at the end of the day. Kindness and general hospitality towards him usually takes him aback, but they could genuinelly be chill with each other.
[ Lune ]
.She is by far easier to befriend and appears more cheerful with a spring in her step, though looks can be decieving.
.There would be interest in Orchid as Lune probably never ran into a non-hostile illager. Not quite with an occupation like this. She'd think Orchid is someone special. Some rare NPC! She wouldn't pass up on the chance to get on good terms with a special mob.
.She might appear like a bipedal sheep in a pink apron, but she will do and try anything to know more about Orchid and gain trust in hopes to unlock some rare loot or something. If she ever catches wind of her ability to create Notch god apples, then surely she'll want to have some of that.
.Lune tends to be relentless in her efforts. Though her motives of building up trust doesn't spark the proper idea of friendship, she wouldn't dare hurt or upset her.
.Eventually she'll drop the player-driven urge to yearn for loot and collectibles around Orchid and would be fine just chilling or trading things each found on their travels. Funnily enough, Orchid could mutter about needing something and the player sheep would just assume it's a quest and fetch it for her. Pf.
.Maybe not exactly a friendship, but it can be benefitial for both. In Lunes eyes Orchid is a unique NPC and worth protecting and questing for. P:

Carewyn and Liz for the ask?
Aww, Liz! 💚
Tumblr media
How Carewyn Feels About Liz:
Despite being dormmates with Liz, Carewyn didn't actually end up talking to her much until her fourth year, after she'd already befriended Charlie Weasley and Barnaby Lee. It wasn't that Carewyn looked down at Liz or didn't like her as a person -- she just saw Liz as the type who preferred working by herself, and because Carewyn herself was still largely seen just as "that delinquent Jacob Cromwell's sister" at that time, she assumed Liz didn't talk to her because she didn't want to get in trouble herself or needlessly antagonize their other dormmates Merula and Ismelda, both of whom really didn't like Carewyn. (And hey, self-preservation is one of Slytherin's house values -- nothing necessarily wrong with that.) Once Carewyn became close to Charlie and Barnaby, though, she ended up spending time with them and by extension Liz a lot more in Care of Magical Creatures, at which point Carewyn really grew to appreciate just how smart and talented with creatures Liz is. Now Carewyn sees her dormmate as both incredibly sweet and positively brilliant with creatures, even despite her immense shyness. Carewyn even ends up co-parenting a bat with Liz and Barnaby, who they call Lune. Liz and Carewyn really only ever end up being "creature buddies," so they're not super close, but Carewyn still really admires Liz's passion for animal welfare and loves that she's never tried to be something she isn't.
How Liz Feels About Carewyn:
When Liz first encountered Carewyn, she was actually a bit intimidated by her. To Liz, Carewyn came across as supremely confident, even when she was younger, since she was never at a loss for words or afraid to speak her mind and stand up to people like their dormmate Merula. Both true and contrary to Carewyn's belief, Liz didn't end up talking to Carewyn at first because she thought Carewyn might get her into trouble (after all, their Head of House Snape didn't even like Carewyn that much), but also because Liz honestly just didn't know how to approach Carewyn. It didn't seem like they had much in common at first, and when Liz's school of interest was almost entirely about magical creatures, she didn't think that would be enough to engage a brave Cursebreaker type like Carewyn. Fortunately, right around the time when Carewyn started becoming more popular among her peers in her fourth year, she also started spending more time in Care of Magical Creatures with Charlie, Barnaby, and Liz, and Charlie and Barnaby would encourage Carewyn's singing to the creatures in the care, which always brightened Liz's day. Liz loved seeing how well the creatures in Carewyn's care reacted to her singing, as well as how much Carewyn respected and cared for those creatures too. Carewyn then started initiating more conversation with Liz about the different creatures, and Liz opened up like a flower after that, loving the chance to share her love of creatures with her dormmate. Liz kind of finds it a little bizarre how someone popular like Carewyn ever became her friend, and sure, they're not close enough that Liz ever saw how bad Carewyn's demons were until after Rowan's death -- but as an adult, Liz always consults magical lawyer Carewyn if she's dealing with anything legal, while acting as a Beast and Being activist.
How does Carewyn feel about these HPHM characters?

*Crawls out of my pit.*
Hey! This is to any of mods!
So... ummm...can I have Kyoko, Kirumi Kaede and Sonia with a phonophobic male!so who has it due to past trauma? If you didn't know, it's the fear of shouting/yelling. Thank you!
*Crawls back in, leaving some chocolate and some coins.*
𝐊𝐘𝐎𝐊𝐎 𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐈 𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐀 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃, 𝐊𝐀𝐄𝐃𝐄 𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐔, 𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐔𝐌𝐈 𝐓𝐎𝐉𝐎 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐀 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐁𝐈𝐂 𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐄 𝐒/𝐎
Tumblr media
* grabs coins and chocolate *
Well that was an encounter. Polite anon 10/10 would recommend.
So uhm, I myself am not phonophobic, so I apologize if I got something wrong. I was only writing based on the research I've done and my own ideas.
Also, I have a hard time incorporating the reader's gender into those headcanons. Apart from just saying 'boyfriend/girlfriend' or using pronouns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⌕ Ultimate detective on her case to make sure you're doing alright. As soon as she realized you're scared of shouting, she made sure to remember it. She could tell it was something more personal, and didn't ask *why* you have that phobia.
⌕ When you're talking with someone and things are getting more heated, she casually reminds the person to not shout, since it'd be impolite to do so or plain disrespectful. She didn't mention to your friends that your fear is caused by the past, that's not something everyone needs to know. All they needed to know, is that shouting or yelling is a big no-no.
⌕ In public places with strangers, there isn't much she can do. Usually, she'll hold your hand and quietly, but calmly, tell you everything's alright and escort you somewhere else.
⌕ Kyoko is a pretty rational person. Even though she wouldn't shout or yell at you in the first place, she still made sure to refrain herself and others from doing that.
Tumblr media
⬧ We all know that since Sonia is a princess, she's very well mannered. I think the only time she raised her voice was at Kazuichi (I could be wrong tho). So you've basically never heard her yell. And if you didn't tell her about your fear, she probably wouldn't even know about it.
⬧ However one time, while you two were just taking a walk, Kazuichi kept bothering her. She didn't intend to sound rude, but when telling Souda to leave you two alone, her voice got louder. And she certainly didn't mean to alarm you. But when she turned to face you again, you seemed more... Nervous
⬧ The princess asked if you were alright. You tried to dismiss it, but knew that it'd be better to just tell her. (At least about your phobia, not the cause of it)
⬧ "My dearest apologizes, if only I had known sooner." She apologized, not meaning to scare you. Sonia will inform your friends about your phobia (only so they'll be aware of it). And as for what had caused it, she won't ask unless you feel comfortable talking about it.
⬧ I can imagine Sonia singing some sort of lullaby -maybe in another language- to try and calm you down.
Tumblr media
<Looking back on this, I've realized how messy Kaede's section here is, most likely bcuz I'm a very gay mess for her>
♪ At first Kaede wasn't sure what she could do to be of help, but she was willing to try anything! One of the first things she suggested was talking in a more quiet voice. It may not have been very helpful, since Kaede was already, well, quiet but it was nicenice nonetheless.
♪ Another thing she'd do is, surprise surprise, play the piano. *cough* Clair de Lune *cough*. I'm sorry it's just so calm and pretty.
♪ While playing the piano, she'll let you rest your head on her shoulder -also vice versa- or lay on her lap. She can also sing something. Did I mention that she's good at singing? No? Well now I did.
♪ A lot of reassuring. Nice words, pretty names. She's just like a ray of sunshine spreading positivity everywhere.
Tumblr media
<The opening here might sound a bit similar to Sonia's, I didn't intend it ahshjs>
๑ Kirumi only raises her voice when she needs to. -Mainly at Kokichi- But she was quick to notice your composure changing when someone was yelling. While she didn't want to bother you, she thought it would be appropriate of her to ask if you feel uneasy when someone is shouting.
๑ After explaining it to her, Tojo nodded understandingly, not asking you any other information.
๑ The v3 kids are wild, so we know they might get themselves into trouble sometimes. Along with that, it's not unusual for them to be loud. In those cases, Kirumi will kindly remind them to keep quiet, without mentioning your phobia -unless she'd absolutely have to-.
๑ The others quickly shush themselves, thanks to Kirumi being the leading authority of the group.
๑ Whenever you're in a place with lots of noise, possibly some shouting involved, she has headphones ready for you, along with some other helpful items.

Grounding
I take five deep breaths before I start to identify objects. I can still hear Melissa on the phone instructing me on how to stay in my body and I am grateful that she understands what it is like to float away.
I first notice Lou lying on the yoga mat with me, pressed against my legs. I notice the chair I sit in directly in front of the window so my face can feel the sun in the morning. I notice the light from my Turkish lamp reflecting its reds and blues onto the crystal doorknob. I bet if I touched it I would feel a chill through my hand. I notice the orange stuffed horse and think of how light it would be to pick up and finally I notice the grey ten pound weight that used to seem so heavy.
I take another deep breath. I hold it for a moment. As I exhale I put my hand on Lous back. I slowly pet her fur and observe her winter coat against my dry hands. I turn my head to the side and touch the leather on the back of the chair next to me. It feels smooth with no imperfections or grooves. I bring my arms down and back to the yoga mat and slide my hands along the ridges and wonder how many grooves there are. I rest my head to the ground and stick my hands out to touch the hardwood floors. Deep Breath. Inhale. Exhale.
I hear the heat circulating through the vents and Lou's little paws making their way across the room behind me. I hear the notes of Debussy's Clair de Lune making their way out of my lap top. Inhale. hold. Exhale.
I can smell the face mask on me. Charcoal. Lou isn't too sure about it either. Inhale. Exhale. I bring my head back to the mat. Inhale. Exhale. It's probably time for a new one.
Inhale. Hold. Exhale slowly. I can still taste the gum.
I am safe. I am here.

aka the 'young natori and cat king meet and Hate Each Other' fic jfifeoa honestly just an excuse for me to write out my headcanons on how they met, their early relationship, natori's family, and the cat king's childhood/family/Issues lmao. the third chapter is so close to being Done, but the fourth and fifth are. Not. so once that third chapter is posted, i'm not sure how long the wait for the next two will be rip
my favorite thing about it is probably just. idk, getting to explore those headcanons i'm attached to, aha. also getting to write natori in a lot of different ways i don't normally get to Here is fun
playin possum
a much shorter post-canon fic in which the cat king comes down with a cold and makes it everyone else's problem. it's. well. Not Particularly Close to being finished, but i at least have an idea of where it's going rip
my favorite thing is that it gave me the opportunity to write natori uttering the line 'sire, if you make me hand-feed your own cold medicine, it will not be as sensuous as you're clearly expecting it to be' jfieoa
have courage and be bold
an excuse plot involving yuki's wedding attire and natori's sewing skills which exists only bc i wanted to write them interacting with each other rip
it's somewhat close to being done. there's little patches here and there which need to be filled in, and the ending is still eluding me lmao. my favorite thing tho is honestly just getting to write for yuki and delve into my own ideas about her, aha, especially after canon wraps up. also love the idea of natori (and probably natoru, too) sharing embarrassing baby stories about lune with her
the willow bud processional
or 'the cat king tries to teach natori how to dance while natori tells him a fairy tale and the self-indulgence levels inherent in that plotline alone blew away the ozone layer'
i've actually posted this one before on my fic blog, but it was unfinished. i posted it anyway bc i was So Tired of looking at it, i just wanted to sort of wash my hands of it rip now it's been some time and i've been looking at it again like. 'u know maybe i have the motivation to finish this now that i'm not Sick Of It'
the ruins
wheezes okay last one the fic i keep bringing up which basically amounts to 'i wonder how much suffering i can dump on my favorite character before i feel bad.' the answer is A Fuckn Lot. natori being kept alive after what's for all intents and purposes a coup bc one particular noble took a not easy to define interest in him. it's ended up way frickn longer than i intended it to but i've had a lot of. well. maybe not fun, exactly, but Something Positive while writing it despite its bleak tone oof
it's inching closer to being finished rip my favorite thing about it is without a doubt getting to indulge not only in my love for Despair but also getting to write natori reacting in ways which i hope are maybe. somewhat surprising considering his usual demeanor and such, aha he literally gets into what amounts to a physical fight in this fic ok that's kind of hilariously unfitting
What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
there’s some ideas i have that fall under this category tbh-- that one idea i’ve brought up involving a groundhog day loop, where haru figures out she’s been living the cat kingdom day over and over again and can’t remember Why. she and the bureau, when she eventually gets them involved again, come to the conclusion it’s the cat king’s doing, and that he’s doing it to get his own way (tho they also find that conclusion kind of odd, considering he didn’t seem particularly broken up about how it all went down by the end of it)
of course. as i’m so. Wont to do rip the ultimate reveal would be that it was natori who had been behind the time loop, bc i have this story idea nicknamed ‘tfw u realize how things worked out in canon was the good end’
the basic idea is that natori was offered the opportunity to redo That Particular Day in order to alleviate some of the damage, but his efforts caused an even worse ending to the fiasco, and so now he’s been redoing it over and over again trying to get it Back On The Right Track. more than likely whatever creature gave him the original opportunity knew this would happen
bc i love the groundhog day loop trope to pieces, and i also love a good skirting too close to the despair event horizon fjioaef
i also have this random desire to write baron interacting with natori in that one ‘organized crime dark comedy’ idea i brought up once, where yuki is the cat king’s daughter and lune is the hapless ditz who fell in love with her, got all mixed up in the family business, and now is in too deep and not digging it lmao mostly bc i just have this vivid Idea of natori being just. profoundly two-faced in a conversation with someone who can send that polite, ambiguous energy right back at him lmao (bc i had the thought that, much like canon, natori is the one technically running everything. but in this case, it’s a good deal more Sinister, and his meticulously crafted bearing is quite brittle and wan in the right light)
How would you describe your writing process?
lies down scattered and capricious are two words which come to mind i'm too laid-back and lack the discipline to write on a legit schedule or when i'm not Feeling It, and my attention can sometimes flit from one WIP to the next in just a matter of half an hour (if not less rip)
it's also frustratingly easy for me to get burned out on an idea or a fic, which is part of the reason i usually have so many different WIPs going on at once orz

[AO3] [WATTPAD]
After a few fluffy pleasantries were exchanged, some cutesy things for their new fans, Rise bid her lady love farewell and went back to class. The rest of the day, she doodled in her notebook a few thoughts about the situation, trying to make sense of everything that happened. All in all, she was more or less satisfied with the results, even though she desperately regretted that they had to arrive there through such a rocky avenue.
Once she stepped outside, she barely had enough time to start fishing in her bag for an umbrella before one appeared over her head, blotting out the rain. She looked over to see Ai smiling serenely down at her.
"Awwwww," a chorus of girls from nearby cooed as the two headed off toward Inaba together. The boys around them mostly just looked confused.
Walking in silence with her arm hooked through Ebihara's was the nicest thing she had felt in a long time. If only it would last… but Rise knew better. Being right didn't make it any less hard to take.
"Let go of me," Ai growled when they were alone.
"Aww, c'mon," she purred in an unctuous voice, only tightening her hold on that arm. "We still make an adorable couple. And you know this still feels good."
"I ought to punch your lights out for what you did to me today. How could you out me in front of that whole crowd? Again?"
"What?! I didn't! In fact, I specifically saved you from being outed — they were going to lynch you, and somebody would have knocked your towel off!"
"That isn't- do you really expect me to believe that's the reason you did all that?"
It was, actually. "Of course not. Not all of it, not the only reason. But it's why I sped things up and jumped in when I did. I didn't want…"
Ai let out a bone-weary sigh. "Fine. Doesn't matter, the damage is done. Thank you very much, you cunt."
"Oooh, ouch." They were both quiet for a minute. "What do you mean, I outed you again? I didn't even out you on purpose the first time, and I specifically stopped anybody from finding out this time. Kind of self-destructed my career to do it."
"Oh please, your career was going nowhere. This isn't going to change that. And I didn't mean outing me as trans; I meant outing me as bisexual."
"What? Oh… well I did it to myself, too. You didn't leave me any choice! Do you not remember the part where I begged you to just let me walk away?"
"That's not the point! You made that choice, just like you made the last choice! It was all you! How do you not see why I'm pissed at you for taking away all my options?!"
"FINE!" When that word echoed off the nearby buildings, they both ducked their heads and tried to do a better job of keeping their voices down. "Fine. I'm a huge moron, I do everything wrong, I just mess everything up for poor you."
Ai snorted. "If you're waiting for me to disagree with you, you're going to have a long wait."
"But now you're stuck with me. At least for a little while. Maybe in a week or two, we can stage some big breakup — one where you're wearing all your clothes, and you could get away from me, and spend the rest of your life thinking I'm the worst person on Earth. But until then, it's me and you, so you're just going to have to make the best of it."
This silence was a lot longer. Both of them resented each other, and resented that they still cared about each other despite the damage they were causing. It wasn't until they were walking past the Shiroku store that Ai suddenly seemed to find her voice.
"Crappy as you're being toward me… I have to admit, I'm impressed. You got really conniving in that locker room."
"Yeah, well, you didn't leave me much choice," Rise sighed as she watched the clouds for a moment. "I can't let you run me out of my own hometown, or destroy my whole career. And making life miserable at school was just really getting old."
"Oh." When Rise turned to look at her, Ai shrugged. "Sorry. I don't know how, but I forgot this is your hometown. Probably because you were too busy slutting it up all over Japan to come back until last year."
"Oh yeah, slutting it up. The total virgin."
"You are not. I don't buy that at all; I never really did."
"Oh well," she sighed with a shrug. "Guess you'll never find out now, since you hate me so much."
"Oh yeah? Wait…" Ai brought them to a stop in the middle of the street, near the old Tatsuhime Shrine. "Did you think… I was going to stick my dick in you?"
Rise winced. Hard. She felt an odd chill run through the back of her knees at the directness of the language. "Do you have to be so vulgar? I mean, wow, you could use a little tact!"
"You did. You thought we would be each other's firsts. Awww, that's so cute!"
"Hey, I did not think that far ahead! And I always thought Yu-kun would be… my…"
That one still hit them both hard enough that the ire faded immediately. Seemed that despite all their best intentions to move on with life, they were still two women who carried a torch for a boy that had always been bound for greener pastures once his parents returned from overseas.
"That… can be what you give me."
"What?"
Ai turned to look at her coldly, directly. "Give me Narukami-kun."
"EXCUSE ME?!" she burst out, eyebrows shooting sky high. In the corner of her vision, she saw a little fox wearing some kind of bandana start and rush into the bushes. "Are you crazy? You think I'm just going to-"
"It's really simple. You and I take care of this breakup thing. Then, once I graduate, I'll chase after Narukami; we'll go to the same college. It'll be perfect. You're a year younger, you can't even try the same thing. And if you give me that… I'll consider us square. I will actually forgive you for trying to out me the first time, and for whatever the hell just happened in the locker room. Totally square on all fronts."
Rise couldn't even form a response. That was crazy. No, it was more than that. "Are you that disgusting?"
"What now?" Ai fired up. "Disgusting?!"
"Yeah! For thinking you can just say that Yu-kun is yours without even asking him!"
"God, you're such a goody-goody," she groaned with a huge roll of her eyes. "I meant, you will take yourself out of the running. Obviously I won't want to hang onto him if he's not interested anymore! But if it's between you and me for him, which it was looking like before…"
"Then you're the one, because I'm off the list." Sighing, she pinched the bridge of her nose while Ai smirked triumphantly. "That isn't… I mean, I can't really agree to that. If he comes after me, I'm going to let him. He deserves to be happy. But…"
"But?" she asked swiftly.
"But I will not chase him anymore. That is the best I can promise."
"You'll… really do it? Wow, I thought you had more fight in you."
"Oh, you have no idea," she grunted, and Ai snorted. "But I also know I really messed up. You won't believe me that it was an accident; okay, I can't help that. But I still should do what's right and try to make it up to you."
The prissy girl pursed her lips as she shook her head. "You always sound like you're in front of a fucking camera." But when Rise just shrugged and looked down at the ground, she didn't follow it up with another snide comment. Just started walking again in silence.
They made it all the way to Rise's before they seemed to realise what they were doing. Ai cleared her throat as she led them up to the door. And she couldn't resist. "What, were you waiting for a goodnight kiss?"
"For your adoring public? Pass." Then she sighed. "I was trying not to let you get rained on. Hurry up."
"Okay." Though she did hesitate. So many things she wanted to say… but now wasn't the time. As defeated as she felt, she had to convince herself that there would be more chances to patch things up if she didn't foul this one up by pushing. "Thanks."
"Yeah, whatever. Go."
And that was that. Except Rise knew, deep down, it wasn't. They would have more chances to do something besides snipe at each other ceaselessly. It was all she had to hang onto for now.
                              ~ o ~
"So wait… I don't get it."
"Neither do I," Rise sighed into the phone as she sorted through her clothes. "But like, do you mean you don't get it at all? Because I can explain it again if you need-"
"No, no, let me try." Chie's tinny voice took a deep breath. "You basically forced him to play a big game of chicken. Either he cops to the fact that you two have been screwing with each other, and he's been playing all these shitty pranks, or he has to spend time with you and like, you can maybe patch things up?"
"Youuuu got it. Oh — this one's cute, I forgot about this." She hung the garment over the closet door.
"Man, that is twisted. But he really said that if you back off Narukami he would forgive you?"
"She did."
"And you believe him?"
That pronoun thing was really starting to get on her nerves. "Chie… can you do me a big favour? Stop calling her 'him'."
"What? But… you told us he's a guy under all that makeup."
"It's disrespectful. She wants to be seen as a girl."
"Well… maybe he shouldn't be a dick to you. That kinda goes with the dick he has in-"
"Chie…" Rise wasn't even entirely sure why her blood was boiling over this so much. Especially when it wasn't like Ai had been entirely respectful to her. But she did know that she couldn't focus on the topic of discussion if she had to keep mentally correcting Chie.
"Okay, okay, geeze. It's not like I meant anything by it."
"I know. Just try? Pretty please?" Rise cleared her throat. "Anyway, yeah, I do believe her. But I'm not stupid. I know this could just be some kind of trick to one-up me again. Like, she still sees it all as a big game to win, and… I don't like it but I can't stop her."
"Right. So he's- she's willing to blow your friendship to kingdom come, and for what? The win? Bragging rights? That's so… depressing."
"She really thinks we hurt her. On purpose. And the more I think about it, the more I get it."
"Well, I don't! We were supposed to be her friends!"
"Her friends have betrayed her before. Back in her old school, they all said she was a gross pig, and disgusting, and… and all that other stuff. And here we act like we'll be her friends, but the minute we find out she's a little different, what do we do?"
There was an annoying groan on the other end of the line, preceding a sigh. And then… "We blabbed it all over school. You're right, I'm… we all sucked. But doesn't he know it was an accident by now? You told him, right?"
"Told her, yeah."
"Fuck. But yeah, so like, what more does h- she want from us? To make a public apology during the morning announcements?"
"Well…" Rise dropped the capris in her hands. "Whoa. Actually, that might be a great idea."
"HUH?! H-hey, come on, I was just messing around! I couldn't do that, you know how I get stage fright!"
"No, no, listen. Not what you said exactly, but… I think you and the others could apologise to her. I have, and that's important since the whole thing is my fault for blabbing in the first place. But I think if we all told her we were sorry for spreading it around…"
Chie didn't answer right away. Rise had enough time to put half of her clothes away before she breathed, "Okay… I don't like it, because it still feels like I didn't do anything wrong. But seeing how it turned out kinda does say otherwise, doesn't it?"
"A little bit."
"Yeah. Copy that, I'm… me and Yukiko are in. I'm sure she would have done it without even putting up a fight. And I can call Yosuke and bully him into agreeing."
"Thanks," Rise laughed as she flopped down on her bed. "Now… what do I wear on my date?"
"Yeah, I dunno. Wait — your what?!"
                              ~ o ~
Her date. With Ai Ebihara.
Now that the entire school was gossiping about how two of its prettiest girls were dating each other instead of the most eligible bachelors at Yasogami High, it was put up or shut up time. Which meant they had to be a couple as visibly as possible or be exposed as a sham. They had thought about simply being cutesy around school, but that could have the unpleasant side effect of getting them in trouble with the staff; they frowned upon public displays of affection. So they settled upon a little flirting and winking in the hallways, and going out to Aiya afterward.
Which was all Ai would talk about on the phone. No deep reflections on how they had hurt each other, no attempts to patch things up; just business. Which was funny, considering their "business" was pretending to patch things up. What a disaster. But Rise tried not to let it get to her; there would be plenty of time to improve this situation if she paid attention for opportunities.
Flirting and winking was easy, because it was brief. They both had some experience with acting; Rise professionally, and Ai in terms of learning a completely new set of outward responses and behaviours. That was another realisation she came to with all that free time apart from Ai. How hard must it be to learn how to be a boy all your life, then realise you aren't one, and have to start over from scratch? She had been about a dozen years behind the other girls her age at that point. No wonder she spent so much time poring over fashion magazines, exhibiting typical bitchy queen behaviour. She had to cram a lot into six short years.
"Well, are you ready, girl?" Ai said with a convincingly enraptured smile.
"Mmhmm!" Bounding over, she wrapped both arms around one of hers. Clinging. That was going to be her thing; since Ai was taller, she would be the 'girl', right? "Let's go! I'm starving!"
Once they were out of earshot of the students, Ai whispered, "Why are you hanging off me like this?"
"Because it's cuuuuuute," she cooed, making the taller girl snort. "And they expect me to be the cute one. I'm Risette, it's my whole thing; if I weren't, they would probably figure out something is up."
"Oh, you had a legit answer. Didn't expect that." Then she shrugged. "I guess that works. It's just… nah. Forget it."
"Oh, don't get all shy now, Ebi-chan!" When she poked her in the stomach, Ai looked so offended that she couldn't help laughing. "No, really. What's up?"
"No, I… I'm just… I know you don't care, but this is bad for my dysphoria."
"Dyswhat?"
Her eyelid twitched in annoyance. "Gender dysphoria. It means… like… you know how euphoria means you feel really good?" Rise nodded. "Dysphoria is the opposite. And in terms of gender, like, it means I'm uncomfortable because…"
Ai was really and truly struggling. So she might as well give it a shot. "Because… your gender isn't right?"
"NO. That's the opposite of- forget it."
"Hey, I don't know this stuff. I don't know why you keep acting like I'm supposed to be- like, you. That's not fair."
"No, it's not. But it's not my job to educate you on all of it, either. Crack a book, go online? God, you have so many resources avail-"
"And you are one of them. I'm asking because I want to understand better! Really! Clearly I screwed up bad so I… do you want me not to screw up anymore, or what?"
That seemed to take Ai by surprise. She blinked a few times before shaking her head. "Wow. Spoiled as ever. You should still try to learn this shit on your own, too, but… I guess… I am a little impressed."
"You said you felt this badness because I'm hanging off your arm, right? I don't get it. I mean, is it because it makes your boy-parts uncomfortable?"
"They're not-" Another deep, cleansing breath. Was she really being that much of a pain in the ass? "Okay, I'll walk you through this, princess. You're hanging off my arm like you would for a guy. But I'm not a guy — and I've literally spent thousands of dollars and years of my life trying not to be seen as one. So when you treat me like one, anyway…"
A crease marred her perfect brow. "Oh. It… gives you the big feel-bad. I see."
And she let go right away. Rise felt even more alone now, walking next to Ai, than she had over their days of total silence. Even now, she was still screwing up. She wasn't wanted by the person she found herself most wanting to be with. If that wasn't the lowest feeling in the world, it was definitely in the running.
"There you go."
"What?"
"There." Ai was pointing at her. "The way you look right now? Probably feel like garbage? That's it — that's how I felt all day when people were spreading the rumour around, how I felt back before my transition began. Like I'd rather walk into traffic than have to keep feeling that way. Maybe it's not quite that terrible for you but at least it gives you an idea."
"Oh." By now, her eyes were watering, but she told herself this wasn't the time for a pity party. She had to take care of Ai if she wanted to show her she was really listening, not just making nice for the sake of moving past the painful retaliation. "S-so I shouldn't… grab your arm. Or do other things that make you feel like the 'boyfriend'? But I don't… know how to… what e-else I'm…"
"Spare me the tears," Ai said — but at least this time, she just sounded defeated instead of angry or disgusted. "Just say what you mean, like an adult."
"Fine! Then I don't know how to be your girlfriend, because all I know how to do are girlfriend things! What, am I supposed to be the boy? I have NO IDEA HOW! Should I get a driver's license so I can chauffeur you around?! Buy you a really, really late White Day present?! I… I'm not good at that, I'm just going to screw it up, and you already think all I do is screw up! So can't you just tell me what to do already if I'm such a failure?!"
By that point, there were definitely more than a few people standing on the sidewalks, staring at the two of them. Rise knew it was her own fault; she had lost control of her emotions. The frustration was manageable most of the time but her patience and resolve weren't infinite. The look on Ai's face was one of abject horror, mingling with confusion. But little by little…
She began to smile. Then laugh — not much, just a chuckle or two. "Oh my God, that was a lot."
"Tell me," Rise said in a softer whisper.
"Fine. The real answer is 'neither of us is the boy', but I don't think you'll like that one. So…" She shrugged and started walking again, Rise hurrying to fall into step next to her. "Just do what you want to do for a friend. But for me. And say something cutesy and girlfriend-y; that part is fine. I would want you to act like the girlfriend, anyway, since you are a girl. I just don't want to be treated like a boy."
"But that's so complicated!" she burst out in frustration.
"Yeah," Ai admitted with a long sigh, eyes downcast. "Everything is. You… really complicated my life. I was hoping I could just marry Narukami, finish my surgeries and so on, and maybe life would fall into place. And here comes Risette to throw a wrench in the works."
That left her quiet for a moment. Then a small smile formed on her lips. "Along comes Risette? Meaning… you aren't completely done with me yet?"
"Tch. Clearly I'm not now that you blackmailed me into this relationship."
"Hmmm, you mean like you tried to blackmail me into outing you?" She examined her nails as they reached Inaba proper, turning down the street toward the diner. "Which I figured out, by the way."
Ai blinked a few times. "You did? What do you mean, you 'figured it out'?"
"Your motive. Guess I'm not as dumb as I look."
"What motive?" But instead of answering, Rise merely skipped ahead a few steps, turned to walk backward, and stuck her tongue out at her. "Hey! What the hell are you talking about?! JERK! You are the WORST!"
                               To Be Continued…
