Lupin & Tonks: Order of the Phoenix Moments
If you've ever looked for all the Lupin & Tonks moments in OotP, look no further. I spent some time today compiling all the times we see Lupin and Tonks together (so you don't have to), with a few of my own notes for each of these moments. Something that came up for me while compiling this: we rarely see Tonks without Remus. If Tonks is anywhere near Harry, you can almost guarantee that Lupin is there too. I don't think this is coincidental.
We meet Tonks when we see Lupin in The Advance Guard. Tonks has a few sassy lines until Lupin introduces her as "And this is Nymphadora--". Tonks of course tells him not to call her Nymphadora (she calls him Remus), and then Remus finishes with "--Nymphadora Tonks, who prefers to be known by her surname only." My own notes: like many Remadora fans, I see this as subtle flirtation on Remus's part. Is it conscious? Probably not. I like to think he likes to rile her up every now and then because he finds it charming.
Lupin and Tonks carry Harry's trunk together in the next chapter. I picture Lupin behind Tonks so he can check out her trunk ;)
We learn from Harry that Remus steps in to help with cleaning Grimmauld Place, and sometimes they're joined by Tonks (she helped remove a ghoul from a toilet). This gives us an idea that Remus and Tonks are spending time together--with others around, presumably--in addition to any Order missions. I have a little HC that when Tonks comes over and Remus is at GP, he drops whatever he's doing to come see her and help with cleaning (even if he hates it).
We see Tonks again at the beginning of ch. 7, The Ministry of Magic. Harry wakes up and finds Arthur, Molly, Sirius, Lupin, and Tonks waiting for him. Tonks is tired but immediately greets Harry. Meanwhile, Remus: "Lupin glanced at Harry, then said to Tonks, 'What were you saying about Scrimgeour?'" I find it interesting that Tonks greets Harry while Remus just takes a look at him and goes instantly back to talking to Tonks. Harry: mild panic over upcoming hearing. Remus: glance and go back to talking to his crush. I HC that at this point, Remus is still unaware that he is developing feelings for Tonks, and Tonks is clueless about it.
Tonks shows up for the prefect party thrown for Ron and Hermione. Harry notices her with Sirius, Lupin, and Kingsley. Tonks wears her hair long and red, which makes Harry think she looks like Ginny's older sister (a high compliment, considering Harry finds Ginny very pretty). Tonks also says she wasn't a prefect, and then Harry finds out Sirius wasn't either, nor was his father, James.
Both Lupin and Tonks accompany the kids to King's Cross. Tonks goes with Harry (she's morphed as little old lady), while Lupin arrives with Ginny, Fred, and George. I picture the gang going back to GP, with Sirius in a great mood, and then Lupin and Tonks having some more bonding moments.
(The only time we see Tonks without Lupin is when Arthur is attacked and the kids go to St. Mungo's. It's Mad-Eye and Tonks who take the kids across London to the hospital.)
Lupin and Tonks escort the kids back to Hogwarts via the Knight Bus. Tonks is disguised as a tall, tweedy woman, and Lupin leads the way to the bus. It's a bit unclear if Lupin and Tonks take the Knight Bus back to London or if they Apparate away. As Harry only mentions the bus having disappeared, I assume that Lupin and Tonks went back on the bus to have some quality time together.
(We get a good bit of Lupin when Harry sees Snape's Worst Memory. One of the few times Tonks isn't around Lupin, but I think it's the middle of a workday and Remus and Sirius have nothing better to do than sit around at GP and relive the good old days.)
Tonks and Lupin show up at the Ministry in ch. 35, Beyond the Veil. Tonks gets seriously injured by Bellatrix and topples down many stone seats. Lupin tells Harry to take the others and go. Then Sirius dies and Lupin holds Harry back from going after him. We learn later that Tonks likely had to spend some time at St. Mungo's, but she should make a full recovery. I always like various interpretations of this injury and its impact on Remus: does he panic when he realizes she's unconscious? Is he there with her at the hospital? Did he bring her there? Is that when he meets her parents? So many options for these scenes.
The last time we see Tonks in OotP is at King's Cross. She's recovered, has bright pink hair, patched jeans, and a Weird Sisters t-shirt. She's standing next to a shabby-looking Lupin. She joins in the effort of intimidating the Dursleys, her sentence being finished by none other than Lupin. Tonks: "The point is, if we find out you've been horrible to Harry--" Lupin, finishing her thought: "--and make no mistake, we'll hear about it."
All of these moments are from Harry's POV. We can assume that there are missions that Lupin and Tonks did together, and many more moments of bonding at Grimmauld Place with the Order. Tonks is with Lupin when we meet her for the first time in OotP and again when we see her at the end.
From Harry's POV, we can't really see their relationship building, but given what we know later in the series, it's not hard for me to imagine each of these moments as bigger points in time when Lupin and Tonks grow closer to one another.

Molly : So how’s parenthood treating you guys?
Tonks : Good, but I didn’t expect this much crying.
Molly : Don’t worry, that’s normal for babies this young.
Tonks : What? No, Teddy's fine..... I was talking about Remus.
Remus : *sobbing from the nursery*.. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

Rant.
Canon ships are canon for a reason. They are canon because their personalities match. Take Hinny for example. It wasn’t TOO obvious, which is great (everyone thought Harry would end up w/ Hermione, siriusly🤭) THE Harry Potter, adventurous and courageous meets book! Ginny, who’s funny and even more courageous. They balance each other perfectly, Harry gives Ginny support, and Ginny encourages Harry w/ her bravery. Now I’ll take my OTP Remadora/Ronks for example. Unpopular opinion ahead Toxic W*lf$tar shippers can scroll idc. Remus Lupin, the poor, self conscious, kind, quote unquote “unlovable” werewolf, the fierce bubbly funny metamorphmagus. See, Tonks probably is at least a little insecure bc people ask her to morph, and nobody loves her for who she actually is. Remus, on the other hand, nobody truly cared for him (yes not even Sirius Black that y’all say Remus loved HE LITERALLY MADE FUN OF REMUS’ CONDITION AND USED HIM AS A MURDER WEAPON IS THAT CARING SMH ) anyways they meet and are amused, than impressed, than seriously smitten by each other. Tonks shows that people can love Remus even though he is a lycanthrope, she also gives him a positive atmosphere he needs. Remus on the other hand, never, ever asks Tonks to morph for him, and loves her the way she is. He also cares for her which is perfect because Tonks is INCREDIBLY clumsy. THEY ARE LITERALLY THE MISSING PIECE FOR EACH OTHER.
all this and Remadora is still one of the most unpopular ships smh
Sry this kinda turned into a rant about how good Remadora is lol

Day 31 of @remadoramicrofics - Make it Spooky
While Remus was washing up from Dinner, he heard the tale-tell snap of apparition. He wasn’t expecting any visitors; very few knew he owned this cabin and even fewer knew its location. Really, there were only two other people…well, he supposed now there was only one other person. Remus grabbed his wand, never straying far from it as of late, and approached the front door. One of the only…well, not advantages, but one of the only effects of his Lycanthropy that he didn’t consider a negative were his heightened senses.
Now, though, he couldn't hear anyone on the front stoop. Wand at the ready, he eased the door open but was put off by the empty mat that greeted him. His stomach twisted with unease. If it was Nymphadora, she would have immediately knocked or, more likely, walked in and announced her presence.
He clutched his wand tighter as he closed the door and stood in the foyer for a moment, calculating his next move. He could sweep the house, just to be safe, but the intruder may expect that, giving them the upper hand. He settled on returning to the kitchen under the guise of dismissing the noise but kept his wand firmly in his hand.
As he turned around, he damn near jumped out of his skin. There, in the archway between the living room and the kitchen, Nymphadroa Tonks stood with a smirk. “Wotcher, Remus.”
Before he could process the visage before him or his own actions, he had her pinned to the wall, wand under her chin. “What did Nymphadora say to me outside the Yaxley manor?”
“That Sirius was charming,” she said easily. Her mouth ticked up in a half-smirk he’d become familiar with before adding, “and that you’d know perfectly well who I’ve fallen for, if you weren’t too busy feeling sorry for yourself to notice.”
He quickly withdrew his wand. “So sorry, I heard the –”
“Did I spook you?” She asked excitedly.
“W-what?”
“Was it a little spooky?” she asked. “Hearing the noise but not finding anyone?”
“I suppose, you know, there is a war going on and –” she cut him off with a quick kiss pressed to his lips and he remembered just how close they were. He let one hand caress her cheek while the other settled on her hip, holding her firmly in place.
“I told Moody," she gasped as they parted, "that I’d never managed to get the drop on you, no matter how stealthy I was. He said I needed to block my pheromones and create a diversion. Said it’d still be an uphill battle, but that he’d buy lunch if I managed to do it.” She grinned up at him. “I’d say I did, how about you?”
“You went through all that trouble to…spook me?” he asked curious, finally stepping back and heading for the kitchen.
“I just wanted to prove I could do it,” she explained as she followed him, stumbling over the table leg as she sat at the small dining nook. “And see what you looked like spooked,” she added, a more devious grin on her face.
“Well, how did I look?” he asked with his own grin as he leaned against the counter and dried the dishes.
“Well, when you had me pinned up against the wall, you looked rather hot.” Remus felt his ears burn at her words.
Remus cleared his throat. “And to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Well, first, I had to prove I could do it,” she said, “but more importantly, I’m off tomorrow and I know that you don't have any Order Obligations, so…”
He looked at her as he rounded the table. “So, now that you’ve done it, what is your plan?” he asked lowly.
She stood up, pressing into his space, and grinned up at him. “Figure you might need a cuddle after that spook. Settle your nerves, you know?”
He laughed as he wrapped her in his arms. “Might need a cuddle?” he repeated.
“It probably got your heart racing,” she said with a resolute nod. She pressed a hand to his chest before reaching up on her tiptoes and pressing her lips to his pulse point.
He sighed and let his head tip back. She pressed up the column of his throat, nipping gently. Remus waited until she pulled him into a deep kiss before he suddenly grabbed her around the waist, hefting her up. She gasped as she wrapped her legs around his waist. Remus drew back and whispered, “Did I spook you?”
She smirked at him as she threaded her fingers into his hair and pressed their foreheads together. “Never,” she said defiantly.

If Lupin and Tonks had survived the battle do you think their relationship would’ve lasted
i love this question. this isn't something that gets much discussion within the remadora fandom.
i lean toward no. i think lupin and tonks would have had a very difficult time of it after the war for a lot of reasons.
it's hard to say exactly what the political/legal/social landscape would have looked like in the first few years after the battle of hogwarts, but i think it's reasonable to think that even if the legal status of werewolves changed immediately (doubtful), their position in society would be much slower to shift. (it's worth pointing out, because in lupin-centric fics it usually gets glossed over, that it makes sense to be afraid of werewolves! werewolves are dangerous!) so, after the war, lupin is likely still unemployable and kind of a pariah. it's likely that tonks will have lost friends over it, and would be treated differently at work and in any social spaces where people know who her husband is. probably also very difficult for lupin to participate in the public/social aspects of parenting, and school-age teddy is likely to see social fallout from this, too.
those things alone are a huge strain on a relationship, and then there's the fact that lupin is likely to continue agonizing and self-destructing over them. everything he feared their relationship would mean for tonks & teddy is still going to be true. lupin is deeply traumatized and has a ton of maladaptive behaviors toward other people that are clearly evident in canon (manipulativeness, dishonesty, keeping people at a distance, bottling his emotions - and this is the tip of the iceberg that's visible in the books, you can certainly extrapolate a lot more) and i think it's unrealistic to imagine that his epiphany in the last book changed all of this. dude needs therapy, probably a lot of it. being in a relationship with lupin would fucking suck.
meanwhile, tonks is quite young, and canon suggests she has idealistic views about love. she's experienced a huge amount of change in her society, her career and her personal life in a very short time, she's definitely traumatized as well, she's got a baby, she's probably the sole breadwinner, AND she's got all of lupin's issues—psychological and social and health and supernatural issues—to deal with. that is a LOT. sooner or later, once all the big feelings of a new relationship start to die down, staying together is going to be a ton of hard, ugly work for both of them. even healthy partnerships would struggle to survive stuff like this—and i don't think lupin and tonks' relationship seems particularly healthy.
divorce isn't really ever mentioned in hp canon, so who knows what options lupin and tonks would feel like they had, but if they did stay together i feel like they'd be in for some very unhappy times.
i should say, and i think this is evident in my work, that the doomedness of lupin and tonks' relationship is one of my favorite things about it. as much as i like them as characters and feel very real huge feelings about the way things went for them, i wouldn't change the fact that they died, nor do i really enjoy imagining a happy ending for them. the brevity and irony and cruelty and mistakes and regrets and wasted time, and the crater of grief they would have left in the lives of the people who loved them, are all part of what makes their little window of time together fascinating to explore.
that said, don't think it would have been such a tragedy if they made it through the war and broke up. especially if they could still amicably co-parent and move on with their lives. sometimes a relationship is beautiful and special and important and worthwhile, and then it runs its course and ends. most relationships are not lifelong relationships. i don't regret the time i spent with people i used to love, nor do i wish i'd stayed in the relationships that fell apart. sometimes people give each other a few years of love and joy and that's enough. remadora, as a story, is a great reminder to savor what you have, and make peace with the things you don't, because right now might be all there is for you.

I wanna write Remadora again....
So I am....
I'm writing a new story about the first time they meet and it's my favorite kind of story, a hurt/comfort story. I also think Lupin was very intrigued by Tonks from the moment they meet - opposites attract and all!
what do we think so far??
"It's not that big of a deal," she protested. Her pale face said otherwise and both men gave her a look. Then Remus realized he had no idea who she was. "Ah, Moody," he started to say, knowing full well Alastor Moody would never bring someone into the Order headquarters without good reason. "This is Nymphadora Tonks, my partner and protege." Moody sounded proud and worried. "Don't call me Nymphadora." His partner said from the couch, where she had decided the cushions were the most comfortable things in the world and she didn't intend to get up for a very long time.

Chewing Gum by Asenora
Our third fic is here! Chewing Gum by @saintsenara!
Summary: An Auror walks into a bar, and misses a werewolf.
No, this isn't a joke. It's Nymphadora Tonks' bloody life at the minute.
What's to love: A cheeky, first and second person POV tale of Tonks missing Remus during HBP. It's intimate, like she's talking to you, and bearing her miserable but still funny soul. A particularly funny set of lines:
You know, Remus doesn’t look like he’d be all that wild in the bedroom. But he delivered the goods, if you know what I mean. Multiple deliveries, in fact.
Our girl's still got that humor, even when she's single. 😉
Thanks Asenora/saintsenara!

I’m a wolfstar-shipper, but I actually really like the Tonks x Lupin pairing as a concept; it had a lot of potential that, unfortunately, was not met (though I am a sucker for tragically bittersweet endings, as well as characters who deem themselves unlovable being loved unconditionally, so kudos for that). Part of the perceived poor execution comes from the fact that the Harry Potter series is told through limited narration: we know what Harry knows, and we may be more curious about certain relationships that exist within his periphery than he is. There could’ve been an entire contextual build-up to their seemingly abrupt feelings for each other that Harry - and by extension us as readers - simply did not experience. Personally, however, I feel like we could’ve been thrown a bone regarding their developing romance here and there, considering that it has already been established just how much Harry eavesdrops. Granted, we did get Molly mentioning how people rush (romantic) decisions in trying times: “Its all this uncertainty with You-Know-Who coming back, people think they might be dead tomorrow, so they're rushing all sorts of decisions they'd normally take time over. It was the same last time he was powerful, people eloping left, right, and center...”
And now for the potential in dynamic I mentioned: after losing the rest of the Marauders, Tonks’ whimsy might have been just the thing to reawaken Remus’ playful side and create a light in the darkness of war (remember Dumbledores quote about turning on the light?), and Remus could’ve helped cultivate her mature side. As with any good ship (imo), there was also plenty of room for angst: Tonks was an auror, Remus classified as a “Dark Creature”. You can imagine the rest.
I don’t mind their 13 year age-gap as much as I thought I would (and other people seem to do), but that might just be a matter of personal taste (and my complete and utter trust in Remus as a good, if occasionally self-destructive and cowardice person). They’re both consenting adults.
What I do mind is the way Tonks’ character changed for the worse as her feelings for Lupin became apparent. What used to be a fun, likeable character turned bratty and unable to read the room (perhaps it is not the time to publicly press for a relationship label - especially with a notoriously private future partner - when he is in mourning). It has however been ages since I last read the books and God knows the films don’t do Remadora justice, so I won’t go too much into that (unintentional?) negative character arc.
As a final note I’d like to say that Wolfstar could be canon-compliant (or pretty much any Marauders-era ship involving Remus) as Remadora happens later on, and bisexuality exists. Luckily, because Harry Potter and the fanon around it are works of fiction, you can interpret the characters and their interpersonal interactions however you like, which is why I politely ask to remain civil in discussions about this post, which I genuinely do hope will occur. No but seriously. I’d love if you voiced your opinion (regardless of whether you agree with me or not) - you’ve already read this far anyway! Thanks for that by the way.
Tldr: I like Remadora conceptually because of their potential, but it (mostly) fell flat.

Hello! I’ve only just re-entered the HP fandom here after around 7 years, simply because I miss Remadora so much 💖 I absolutely love your posts and totally agree that you’re doing us all an amazing job and keeping this ship well-loved! I was wondering if you could also recommend other friends/blogs that love them just as much? It’s been really hard trying to find recent activity with this ship unfortunately, and I’d love to dive back this 🤔
HELLO @velvetwyrms! Welcome to the HP fandom again!! I'm so happy you're here, and you're on the Remadora train!!
Okay, so. Here's the thing. Remadora is a small ship. There aren't many of us writing/creating for Remadora, so it's tough to be here in many ways. I do have suggestions for you for other Remadora authors/creators and blogs that are friendly to Remadora!
Check out @remadorafest. I just ran it for its first year, hoping to do it again. Also check out @remadoramicrofics. It was more active in the fall so it might be an autumn thing?
Our authors from Remadora Fest, all of which I HIGHLY recommend: @asnarkyandironicusername, @moonyinchaos, @nena-96, @go-tell-the-bees, @evesaintyves, @merlinsbudgiesmugglers.
Take a look at my Remadora longfic rec list. I need to put together a one-shot list, but that's going to take some time!
Blogs/folks that are friendly to Remadora (though not all of them write for Remadora, are currently active in fandom/or Remadora/HP, these are folks that will (or have in the past) reblogged/supported Remadora things), off the top of my head (apologies in advance if I missed anyone): @in-love-with-remus-lupin, @broomsticks, @breaniebree, @artemisia-black, @annabtg, @messrmoonyy, @lunapwrites, @leesielou, @puppyduckster, @moonlightdancer26, @enimia13, @floreatcastellumposts, @ventoserenowrites, @youllstillfindst0ne, @remadora, @remadora4ever, @nywphadora, @incorrecttonks, @bubblytonks, @maria-de-salinas. For art try @rielles96, @mikonez, @oswinthegeek, @constancezin.
This isn't everyone, so anyone who I tagged, feel free to tag others and pass it along. I feel like I need to make a Remadora yearbook or something!

Mark your calendars: REMADORA FEST COMING JANUARY 2024!
Though the poll results favored March, @remuslupinfest begins posting in March. It'll be best for creators to have enough time for both fests, so we're going first in January. If you are a writer/creator and plan to contribute to Remadora fest, please consider writing for Remus Lupin Fest as well! Pros include more Remus and Remadora goodness. Cons: nonexistent.
This will be the timeline for the Remadora Fest:
Prompting: opens 25 September and closes 25 October
Claiming: begins 31 October
Works due: 31 December
Posting: begins 3 January 2024
Under the cut you'll find guidelines on what the fest is looking for.
Fics must be a minimum of 1000 words. All ratings permitted. If/when there are more mature topics, content warnings are a must.
All visual art is accepted, with the exception of AI generated images. No AI artwork or writing is permitted.
All works for the fest must be new and must be able to stand alone. You can add sequels or prequels as you see fit, but the work itself must be able to stand as its own entity.
The works must be centered on Remus and Tonks's relationship. It can be told from others' perspectives but Remadora must be endgame. E.g. if you are planning to write a Remadora break-up fic, this may not be the fest for you.
This will be an anonymous fest. Works will be posted anonymously at first and author reveals will come at the end of the fest.
AUs are permitted. As long as Remadora is endgame and central to the work, you can shape the world as you see fit. (Ex: you can genderbend the characters, you can have Remus and Tonks be the same age, make it a Muggle AU, etc.)
This fest should be a welcoming space for everyone. The following will not be tolerated: bashing, harassment, bigotry, misogyny, transphobia, racism, and/or hate speech. Be kind.
If you have a question, send an ask.
We're looking forward to a smashing time! Please reblog and share!
