never picked up on the revolutionary overtones of Vriska finishing off her parasitic lusus with a "Guillotine de Marquise" before... which is a little ironic given that we later find out the guillotine has that name not because it was used on a marquise but belonged to a marquise. so it's a particularly heavy handed example of Vriska literally LARPing as a renegade.

Hussie's commentary on the spider execution scene specifically wonders if it's "reasonable to ask: did [Mindfang] have to guillotine her own spider mom too? Maybe it's becoming a Serket family tradition", seemingly having forgotten that Mindfang's lusus was swallowed whole by a dragon. but Mindfang's life did end on a revolutionary chapter, so perhaps the core of this assumption isn't totally worth throwing out...?

Okay, so, when crabdad found Karkat, he decided it would be safest for his little mutant baby to simply not get registered (which is something that’s needed in order to access any money he’s supposed to have, and to get a hive built for him, and to get any sort of schoolfeeding, and deliveries, etc. etc.) just in case registering him gets the attention of the government, and thus gets Karkat culled. So instead, he just raises Karkat as a wild feral thing with their hive as a giant crab den. Thus, Karkat knows little about troll language (only whatever he picked up from the jadebloods talking if this is a no SGRUB au and he spent time in the brooding caverns) and only whatever crabdad can/will explain about troll culture.

Then one day they meet little gamzee, and somehow they end up instantly becoming best friends, and Crabdad takes gamzee in as his own when he realizes how shitty goatdad is, and they move into gamzee’s hive, and Crabdad teaches gamzee the same things he taught Karkat (which gets a lot easier as gamzee learns crabspeech and Karkat learns Alternian) while gamzee helps Karkat learn about Alternian language and culture and they meet their canon friends online and stuff.

Hard To Love

I will never be a mother, my womb is a terrible beast incapable of nurture. It eats my mother instinct and any child I produced would be bereft of any love.

I will never be a lover, my heart is a lusus naturae. A deformed abomination with claws and fangs it can only bite and growl.

I will never be a caregiver, my mind is a twisted mirror maze. Shards of glass strewn throughout reflecting my darkest thoughts into infinity.

I have a monster within, a creature beneath the skin. That lives inside my skull and digs into my bones. Travels through my blood and hides behind my ribcage. Makes me hard to love.
